Problem is the anti theft module located on the steering column has malfunctioned for my wife’s 2010 Nissan Cube keyless ignition. Vehicle would not restart for my wife after sitting for 5 hours, luckily she was not way off somewhere. From what I’ve seen Nissan did a recall of a similar defective module on other models but did not include the Cube. Nissan doesn’t even have the parts readily available for repair. Vehicle has been sitting at a repair shop for over a month now. This should be a safety issue as it could leave people totally stranded in the middle of nowhere with no meaningful way to repair the vehicle. The part number of the module is 487001 FA0C. It is believed that Nissan did not recall the Cube because of the low quantity of vehicles manufactured in relation to the other problem models.

THE ELECTRONIC STEERING INTERLOCK MECHANISM FAILED, ON AND OFF UNTIL IT FINALLY QUIT WORKING AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START AS A RESULT (THE CAR WAS STATIONARY EACH TIME THE PROBLEM OCCURRED, WHICH HAPPENED AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS AROUND LEXINGTON, KY). I HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALER, GLENN NISSAN, LEXINGTON, KY. INITIAL AND FOLLOW-UP REPAIRS COST $1,053.35. THIS WAS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD IN TERMS OF POTENTIALLY BEING STUCK WITHOUT TRANSPORTATION, AND A FAULTY MECHANISM AFFECTING THE STEERING PERFORMANCE OF THE CAR. TODAY I LEARNED THAT NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE DUE TO A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF PROBLEMS EXPERIENCED BY THEIR CUSTOMERS WORLDWIDE. MY CAR IS PAST THE 3-YEAR EXTENSION PERIOD (BY THE WAY, I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY NOTICE OF THE WARRANTY EXTENSION). THE NATURE OF THIS VEHICULAR PROBLEM DEMANDED A RECALL OF THE VEHICLE, NOT AN EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY. I AM THEREFORE REGISTERING THIS COMPLAINT WITH YOUR AGENCY AND ASKING FOR YOUR INVESTIGATION OF THIS CASE. MY CAR STARTS WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT. I'VE BEEN STRANDED AT THE STORE AFTER DROPPING OFF A CHILD AT SPORTS PRACTICE, STRANDED IN MY OWN GARAGE UNABLE TO TAKE MY CHILD TO SCHOOL OR GET TO WORK. ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK (ESCL) WAS MALFUNCTIONING, AS DIAGNOSED BY A NISSAN DEALER. THE CAR WAS PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND IT WOULD NOT START, NO ENGINE, OR INTO ACC MODE BECAUSE THE ESCL DID NOT SENSE THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING PRESSED OR THE WHEEL IN LOCKED POSITION. PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL TOO START THE CAR DID NOTHING, AND ENGINE START BUTTON DID NOT WORK BUT A SOLID AMBER KEY ICON ON THE DASH BOARD WOULD COME UP AND DISAPPEAR. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. DID SOME RESEARCH, AND IT TURNS OUT THAT NISSAN HAD PROBLEMS W 2009 SAME ESCL PART = STEERING LOCK PART# ON MY UNIT - WE HAVE PHOTOS -487001FA0B MANUFACTURE DATE 09-30-09 THE SAME AS THE ONLY CUBE MODEL YEAR RECALLED.- FROM 2009-2010 INCLUDING CUBE 2009 AND ALTIMA/MAXIMA 2010 WHICH SEEMED TO SHARE THE SAME ESCL PART USED MY CUBE 2010 WHICH IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. DEALER WANTS OVER 800.00 TOO FIX A KNOW DEFECT. THERE ARE MANY RESOURCES ONLINE (FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE, WEB FORUMS) WHERE PEOPLE DRIVING MODELS OTHER THAN ALTIMA AND MAXIMA EXPERIENCE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, YET ALTIMA AND MAXIMA OWNERS GET WARRANTY EXTENSIONS AND EVERYONE ELSE GETS SADDLED WITH A $800 REPAIR BILL OR MORE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 NISSAN CUBE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A LOCATION AND PARKED. WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT START AND A FLASHING ORANGE KEY ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ALEXANDER NISSAN (10 ALEXANDER DR, MUNCY, PA 17756) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE EMERGENCY SAFETY LOCK NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 NISSAN CUBE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, IT FAILED TO START WHEN PROMPTED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO START. DIRECTLY AFTER REMOVING THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO OPERATE. GERMAINE NISSAN IN COLUMBUS, OHIO WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REPLACED THE BATTERY AND IGNITION SWITCH, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PREVIOUS REPAIRS WERE NOT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE PRESSURE RELEASE VALVE WAS FAULTY AND ALLOWED WATER TO ENTER THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE FAILURE CAUSED SEVERE RUST AND CORROSION IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR PANEL. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY SENT A MECHANIC OUT TO ASSESS THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

For a couple weeks on & off it’s been not wanting to go when I step on gas. I remember this doing same sort of thing before Allen web supposedly replaced my transmission as it was one of millions that are faulty as is one they put in 2018 only has 18,000 miles on tbis supposed replaced transmission & it’s in a mechanic shop as I write this a waiting on hopefully Nissan paying for this faulty transmission. I shouldn’t have to buy one when it’s only got 18,000 miles on it. I’ve almost been rear ended due to This ongoing problem. People behind me are ready to go when light turns green. I floor my gas pedal & it does nothing . Have to Hurry put my flashers on pray to God no one hits me & flag everyone to go around. I turn car off put I park first of course , wait few seconds & sometimes it thankfully goes into gear & i baby it rest of way as I don’t want to make it worse by flooring my gas pedal. I’m very careful & pray I make it rest my way to work or home whichever the case . I barely made it to work other day. My friend thankfully had my Nissan Cube towed to a shop as it turns out it in fact had all same codes as before they supposedly put newer one in P1778 p0868 P0725, p0746 & so on transmission CVT TRANSMISSION FAILURE! $2,935 plus other huge problem totaling $4,431 ! I definitely shouldn’t have to be dealing with any of this again!! I don’t drive far to work, had surgery as well so didn’t drive many places for a bit this is why only gone 18,000 miles in 4 years. I called auto mall Nissan & asked about my warranty they told me it’s expired! For only 18,000 miles put in it that’s ridiculous! Hwy robbery! Talk about a lemon again. Could of been smashed up by a truck being behind me a lot of things could of happened endangering myself as well as drivers behind me & behind those people. Plus dangerous being on side of road waiting to see if it’s gonna go into gear again or not! I understand things wear out but this transmission should be good thousands of miles!

CVT TRANSMISSION FAILED IN MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION. LUCKY IT RE-ENGAGED JUST IN TIME TO AVOID BEING T-BONED. TOWED 2010 CUBE TO DEALER, DETERMINED CVT FAILED AND NEEDS NEW CVT TRANSMISSION. LEARNED CVT TRANSMISSION IS COVERED IN SERVICE CAMPAIGN BUT NISSAN STILL REFUSED TO CORRECT KNOWN ISSUE STATING IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE THAT NISSAN IS REFUSING TO AVOIDING NOTIFYING OWNERS OF THE RISK OF DRIVING A 2010 CUBE. MILEAGE IS JUST OVER 120,000 MILES. OTHER THAN THE ABRUPT TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHEN DRIVING, THE CAR IS IN GREAT CONDITION. NOT ONLY IS NISSAN SELLING CUBES THAT GO JUST OVER 120,000 THEN BREAK, THEY ARE HIDING IN THE FACT THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. NISSAN WANTS $4,500 TO FIX A SAFETY PROBLEM THEY 100% KNOW IS A BIG ISSUE.

AS OF FEBRUARY 2017, WHAT I LATER FOUND OUT WAS THE CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION, ALSO KNOWN AS, CVT TRANSMISSION, STARTED TO FAIL ON MY 2010 NISAN CUBE, WHICH HAS ONLY ONE OWNER. ON THE WAY TO WORK A LOUD WHINING NOISE CAME FROM UNDER THE HOOD. AS I WAS DRIVING ON A VERY BUSY STREET, THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE AND DECELERATE RANDOMLY WHILE IN DRIVE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD ALSO OCCASIONALLY ILLUMINATE. SEVERAL MECHANICS COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG, UNTIL I TOOK THE CUBE TO A MECHANIC THAT KNEW ABOUT THE MANY FAILURES THE NISSAN CVT TRANSMISSION WAS HAVING. I WAS TOLD THEN THAT NISSAN HAD CREATED A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM TO DEAL WITH THE CVT FAILURE; OF WHICH I WAS NEVER INFORMED BY NISSAN. EVEN THOUGH I CONTINUE TO RECEIVE EMAILS AND ADS FOR THE COMPANY. THE LETTER FROM NISSAN STATES THAT THE WARRANTY ON THE CVT WILL BE EXTENDED. "FIRST TO PROVIDE YOU WITH ADDITIONAL ASSURANCE REGARDING YOUR OVERALL COST OF OWNERSHIP WE HAVE DOUBLED THE WARRANTY PERIOD FOR THE CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION IN YOUR NISSAN.: IT ALSO STATES "10 YEARS/120,000 MILES, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST." MY NISSAN CUBE IS CURRENTLY SEVEN YEARS OLD. I HAVE OVER 128,000 MILES. I NEVER RECEIVED A COPY OF THIS LETTER. I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN FEBRUARY 2010 AND THIS LETTER STATES THE END OF THIS REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM ENDED 7/31/2010! WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR ME? MY CAR IS NOT 10 YEARS OLD! I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR FOR OVER TWO MONTHS NOW. I WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS OUT OF POCKET. ALSO IN THIS LETTER STATES "A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF OWNERS OF EARLY MODELS EQUIPPED WITH CVTS HAVE EXPRESSED CONCERNS ABOUT THE COST OF THE REPAIR OF TRANSMISSION AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES." THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS IN THE 2009 AND 2010 CUBES ARE KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE. I HAD MINE REPLACED IN FEBRUARY OF 2015 AND IN MAY 2016, 15 MONTHS LATER, IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY BUT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. SINCE I AM NOW OVER THE MILEAGE LIMIT FOR THEM REPLACING IT I AM STUCK PAYING $4000.00 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION THAT WILL ONLY BE UNDER WARRANTY FOR 12 MONTHS OR 12,000 MILES. THE PROBLEM STARTS WITH SURGES IN THE RPM'S AFTER THAT THE CAR WILL NOT GO FORWARD AFTER COMING TO A STOP UNLESS YOU TURN THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON. EVEN AFTER THAT IT WILL DO IT EVERY TIME YOU COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO GO THROUGH A BUSY INTERSECTION. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB BUT WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T HELP ME. I AM ATTACHING THE FILES SHOWING MY REPAIR AND DIAGNOSTIC. I AM ALSO ATTACHING COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CUBE OWNERS.

POWER STEERING LOCK ASSEMBLY IS DEFECTIVE. I RECENTLY HAD MY STEERING LOCK MECHANISM GO OUT ON MY 2010 NISSAN CUBE AND LEAVE ME STRANDED. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED BECAUSE IT WOULD NO LONGER START THINKING IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. =$$ NO OTHER DEALERSHIPS WOULD LOOK AT IT BECAUSE IT WAS WHAT SEEMED AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE, I HAD TO TAKE IT TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE THIS PROBLEM. I WAS QUOTED $950 FOR IT TO GET FIXED. UPON DOING RESEARCH I REALIZED THIS SAME PART WAS RECALLED ON THE 2009S. I ALSO FOUND MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE AND HOW NISSAN WAS NOT TAKING CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. I TOOK MY ISSUE TO NISSAN CORPORATE TO GET IT RESOLVED BUT THEY SAID AT THIS TIME THEY COULD NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT BECAUSE THERE WERE "REVISIONS" DONE TO THIS PART. OBVIOUSLY IT IS STILL A PROBLEM. IT ALSO WAS SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP WITH ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH NISSAN AND WILL NEVER BUY FROM THEY AGAIN, FURTHER RECOMMEND THEIR BUSINESS OR CUSTOMER SERVICE. CLEARLY THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY. DO NOT BUY NISSAN ANYTHING. SINCE I PURCHASE MY NISSAN CUBE ON COOL MORNINGS(UNDER 60) THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WILL BE OFF WHEN A 110 POUND PERSON IS IN THE SEAT. AFTER LESS THAN 5 MILES OF DRIVING THE AIR BAG WILL TURN ON. Fuel level readings have been erratic for over 40,000 miles now. Fuel gauge will randomly show the fuel level with less than 1/4 tank left, even though the car has gone less than 100 miles after filling (while the car can travel over 300 miles on a full tank.) Then a little while later, the fuel level will appear normal. And this cycle will repeat many times before the tank is actually below 1/4 tank full, based on both mileage and the "normal" fuel level.

THE CAR HAS A KEYLESS IGNITION, WHICH SINCE OCTOBER HAS BEEN INTERMITTENTLY NOT STARTING WITHOUT TWO OR THREE ATTEMPTS. ON THIS OCCASION. AFTER PRESSING THE BRAKE AND THE IGNITION BUTTON THREE AND FAILING TO START THE CAR, I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND TURNED TO GET MY PHONE FROM THE BACK SEAT WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED UP ALL BY ITSELF. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a cracked fuel tank filler neck. The contact was informed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. I was washing my car by hand and I was washing the driver's side rear view mirror and pivoted it away from the normal position so I could clean it better. When put it back to it's normal position, the hinge broke. When I looked closely at the hinge, I noticed that the hinge pretty much disintegrated, so it was just a matter of time before it broke. It could've broken off on the highway and been blown off, possibly damaging the vehicle or another vehicle, as the mirror was only hanging by the wires at that point. Also you can't drive a car without a driver's side mirror. I removed the mirror after I got done washing the car, so it wouldn't fall off and hit the car. I then ordered replacements for both the driver's side and passenger's side outside mirrors, including both the plain matte black covers, and the pre-primed covers, as I don't have to rush in getting the pre-primed covers painted to match the covers on the old mirrors. I attached the invoice for the replacements. The invoice doesn't include the cost of having the covers painted. I don't think the probably needs somebody else to confirm it, as the mirror is clearly separated from the bracket. The passenger's side mirror is showing the signs of starting to disintegrate, and both mirrors are available for inspection. Nobody else has inspected the mirrors. I tried to let the manufacturer know about it, but my email to them was bounced back as undeliverable. There were no symptoms of the problem prior to failure. The pictures of the mirror on the workbench are of the driver's side mirror, while the pictures of the mirror on the car are of the passenger's side mirror. I also included a picture of the odometer reading.
