I PURCHASED MY NISSAN FRONTIER FROM A NISSAN DEALER "AS IS" WHICH WAS FINE TIL THE FIRST TIME I FILLED IT UP. THE SMELL OF GAS MADE ME PULL OVER RIGHT AWAY. COULDN'T FIND OR SEE A LEAK BUT SURE COULD SMELL IT. SHORTLY AFTER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON. HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT TO FIND FUEL IS LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. I SEE I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT. HOPEFULLY SOMEONE WILL INVESTIGATE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. I'M ON S.S.D. I CAN NOT AFFORD THIS PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED. TRIED TO LOCATE A NEW TANK FOR THE TRUCK. CAN'T FIND ONE. I CAN'T SEE PUTTING A RECYCLED DEFECT IN. ANYONE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM NEEDS TO CALL THE NHTSA SO WE CAN GET THE RECALL STARTED. NOW NISSAN CHANGED THE TANK AND ADDED ACCESS PANEL BEHIND THE BACK SEAT ON NEWER MODELS. SO I DON'T FILL MY TRUCK AND IT STILL SMELLS OF GAS BUT NOT AS BAD. HOPEFULLY HELP IS AROUND THE CORNER. *TR

THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED A FRACTURE IN THE FUEL TANK, WHICH WOULD REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2001 NISSAN FRONTIER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V230000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEARE WAS 116,000.

ENGINE STOPPED WHILE ON HIGHWAY. UNABLE TO RESTART. ON CHECKING VEHICLE, DISCOVERED WATER IN FUEL TANK. AFTER REMOVING FUEL TANK FROM VEHICLE, NOTICED, ACCESS TO FUEL TANK FROM TOP SEVERELY CORRODED. THE FUEL TANK IS LOCATED DIRECTLY BELOW SPACE BETWEEN CAB OF TRUCK AND BED. THIS ALLOWS WATER TO ENTER THROUGH THE SPACE. THE ACCESS TO THE TANK HAS A RAISED RING AND A GROOVE THAT RUNS AROUND THE RING, WHICH ALLOWS WATER TO COLLECT. THE WHOLE RING IS CORRODED AND THEIR IS HOLES IN THE TOP OF THE TANK. I FEEL THIS IS A POORLY DESIGNED TANK AND POOR LOCATION OF TANK. MY SON AND MY FRIEND HAS THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL AND THE BOTH EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. MY SON JUNKED HIS TRUCK AND MY FRIEND USED J-WELD TO MAKE MAKESHIFT REPAIRS. I LIVE IN A COMMUNITY WITH A POPULATION OF 2000 RESIDENCE, WHICH MAKES ME BELIEVE THAT THIS CANNOT BE A ISOLATED INCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING AT 4:30 AM ON JULY 9TH, 2005, MY WIFE EXPERIENCED A MOMENTARY BRAKE FALUIRE WHILE EXITING A FREWWAY RAMP AT ANTHEM WAY IN ANTHEM, AZ WJILE TRAVELING ABOUT 65 MPH. THE BRAKES RESTORED THEMSELVES PRIOR TO A STOPLIGHT AT THE OFF-RAMP OF ANTHEM WAY AND I-17. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ON A FEW OCCAIONS, BUT THOUGHT IT WAS JUST MY IMAGINATION. I HAVE NOT SOUGHT RECOURSE FROM THE DEALER, EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, AS I REALIZE THAT THEY HAVE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, WHICH DOES NOT MANIFEST ITSELF THAT OFTEN. I BELIEVE HAVING BEEN IN FLEET MANGEMENT FOR 25+ YEARS, THAT IT MAY BE A FAULTY BRAKE VALVE. ALSO I AM A MEMBER OF NAFA. THERE WAS NOT ANY ACCIDENT.

I BOUGHT A NEW 2001 PATHFINDER IN JULY AND I LEASE IT JUST THE BEGINNING OF THIS YEAR OUT OF NOWHERE THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND IT CAME ON AND THEN TURN OFF I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSE AND THEY TOLD ME IT HAD AN INTERNAL FAILURE THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR WAS NOT GOOD THEY TOLD ME THAT IN THE YEARS OF SERVICE THEY HAVE NOT SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSE IT OR WHAT HAPPENED THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD COST ME ALMOST 2,000.00 TO FIX AND I DECLINE BECAUSE I FELT IT WAS A DEFECT THAT THE CAR HAD AFTER COMMUNICATING THIS INFORMATION TO NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIR THEY DENIED THE REPAIRS BECAUSE MY CAR HAS MORE THAN 36,000 MILES. I FEEL THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY AND THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT I FELT THEY SHOULD COVER IF THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT EVEN TELL ME WHAT CAUSE IT I FELT THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE AFTER ALL THIS IS NOT A CHEAP VEHICLE AND NOW I WILL NEVER BUY A NISSAN AGAIN.*AK

LAST NIGHT OUR 2001 NISSAN FRONTIER CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS DESTROYED. THE FIRE MARSHAL SAID IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE THAT STARTED UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN. THE TRUCK WAS PARKED AT AROUND 6:15 PM AND THIS FIRE WAS DISCOVERED AT AROUND 11:15 PM AND SEEMED THAT IT HAD STARTED AROUND 20 MINUTES BEFORE.

2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER 3.5L 4WD SE MODEL STARTED MISFIRING AT 89,000 MILES, WHICH THE JEFF WYLER NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN OHIO ADVISED ON REPLACING AN IGNITION COIL. CAR RAN OK FOR 2 WEEKS, THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND THIS TIME IT WAS A VALVE TIMING SENSOR. REPLACED THAT AND 2 WEEKS LATER MORE MISFIRING, AND THE SAME DEALER SAYS IT'S ANOTHER IGNITION COIL. A LITTLE RESEARCH SHOWS THERE ARE OVER 2500 PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ENGINE TYPE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES (MAXIMAS), AND OTHER CAR MANUFACTURERS NOT HAVING THIS ISSUE. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT AND NEEDS SERIOUS SCRUTINY OR LEGAL ACTION.

S. 25 SOUTH OF GREENVILLE, SC, WHEN IT HAPPENED AND I DROVE BETWEEN 45 AND 50 MILES WITH NO GAUGES. I HAD A DOCTORS APPOINTMENT IN AUGUSTA, GA THAT I HAD WAITED SEVERAL MONTHS TO GET SO I HAD TO GO ON. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A PERSON THAT WORKS AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS COMMON WITH THE 2001 NISSAN FRONTIER WHICH IS WHAT I HAVE. IN CHECKING, I AM TOLD THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS WHICH DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. *JB

NOW, IT IS 2007, AND THE LINK IS LOOSE AGAIN. THE CAR IS AT THE DEALER, AND I AM WITHOUT THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS. THE FRONTIER HAS 88,000 MILES ON IT. . TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE ANCHOR BOLTS WERE STRIPPED! HOLES WERE RE-BORED AND NEW BOLTS PUT IN. FOR ABOUT THE PAST YEAR, THE DRIVER'S ELECTRIC WINDOW HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING. WHEN OPENING THE WINDOW, THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM, HOWEVER, CLOSING THE WINDOW, IT GOES UP VERY SLOWLY AND YOU HAVE TO TAP ON THE BUTTON TO GET IT TO CLOSE COMPLETELY.*AK I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO SERVICE TODAY AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE DID NOT MEET THE "SERVICE CAMPAIGN" BECAUSE THE SERIAL NUMBER OF MY VEHICLE WAS NOT IN THE RANGE OF THE PROBLEM AND BECAUSE MY VEHICLE HAS 73K MILES AND THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN WAS ONLY TO 60K MILES. NO CORRECTION ACTION WAS TAKEN BECAUSE MY VEHICLE'S SERIAL NUMBER WAS NOT IN THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN RANGE. I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET IF I WANT THIS REPAIRED.

WHEN ON THE VENT SETTING THE SYSTEM CONTINUOUSLY INTRODUCES HOT AIR INTO THE TRUCK. I HAVE MEASURED THE TEMPERATURE OF THIS AIR AT 118F WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 70 F. AFTER TRIPS TO TWO DEALERS AND THE REPLACEMENT OF THE INTAKE AIR VENTS THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM ABOVE, THE PROBLEM IS NO BETTER.

I am the original owner of the vehicle which has just 66,000 original miles. I have smelled fuel and had a service engine soon light on for years. I have taken the vehicle into various shops and dealerships who failed to find a fuel tank leak that now turns out to have been from corrosion of the tank flange as early as 5 years after manufacturing. A check of various online owners forums suggests this is a known defect on Nissan Frontier and XTerra trucks. Once gas began physically leaking out of my tank, I contacted the dealer who said my VIN was not part of any fuel tank recall and I would have to pay for any repairs myself. This is a dangerous and irresponsible situation for Nissan Frontier and XTerra drivers which Nissan needs to fix. Other examples of rusted fuel tank flanges. THERE IS A PATTERN OF FAILURES FOR ALL NISSAN VEHICLES 1998 THRU 2001 (DID NOT SEARCH NHTSA DATABASE FOR ANYTHING EARLIER). MY 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER WAS PURCHASED 3 YEARS AGO. A BOSE 6-CD PLAYER CAME INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE. THE 6-CD PLAYER STOPPED WORKING, AND DISPLAYS AN ERROR MESSAGE, "ERR 2". NOW I HAVE WORKED IN THE TIRE BUSINESS IN THE PAST AND I CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT EVERY BRAND HAS ITS FAULTS. I HAVE SEEN SEPARATIONS OF ALL KINDS IN EVERY BRAND. I WOULD LIKE ALSO TO STATE THIS IS A NEW TRUCK SO I KNOW EVERY INCH VERY WELL. SO THE LR RIGHT THROUGH THE FLAG. THE LF 1 INCH TO THE LEFT OF THE FLAG AND THE RF AROUND THE SAME. DT: 2001 NISSAN FRONTIER. THE CONSUMER STATES THE TREAD ON DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE CAME OFF WHILE DRIVING ON I17 AT 55 MPH. THE TREAD WENT AROUND THE AXLE AND CAUSED DAMAGE. THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL TIRE ON THE VEHICLE. THE TIRES HAD BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED. THE VEHICLE SHOOK, AND THE CONSUMER HEARD A BUMP. SHE PULLED OVER. EVERY TIME I SET THE AUTOMATIC PUMP ON FULL FLOW, THE SHUTOFF IS NOT IN TIME TO PREVENT GASOLINE FROM OVERFLOWING ONTO THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ON THE GROUND. THE INTERMEDIATE SETTING ALSO RESULTS IN A FUEL SPILL. THE ONLY WAY I HAVE NOT HAD A FUEL SPILL IS TO SLOW THE PUMP'S SETTING TO THE SLOWEST LEVEL. I HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED AT ED MARTIN NISSAN IN INDIANAPOLIS, AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEN I WAS TOLD THAT NISSAN WAS REVIEWING THE PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN BUT THEY HAVE NOT PROVIDED ANY SORT OF MEANINGFUL RESPONSE.

ON JUNE 12TH,2002, THE LEFT-SIDE TAILGATE OF MY 2001 FRONTIER TRUCK SPONTANEOUSLY DETACHED ITSELF FROM THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE. AND, FOR THE SAKE OF MY SAFETY AND THE VEHICLES AROUND ME, I COULD NOT IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. HENCE, WHILE I DROVE, THIS "DANGLING" TAILGATE CONTINUALLY BANGED THE BUMPER AND VARIOUS AREAS OF THE VEHICLE, CAUSING PAINT DAMAGE, INDENTATIONS, AND A GRAVE SAFETY HAZARD FOR MYSELF AND THE SURROUNDING VEHICLES/PEOPLE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 NISSAN FRONTIER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN PROPERLY AND WAS STIFF. WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, IT WOULD NOT RETURN BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE TIE ROD AND BALL JOINTS, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.

THIS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A MVA WHERE IT HIT THE BROADSIDE OF A MINIVAN (T-BONED) THAT RAN A RED LIGHT THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. THE TRUCK WAS GOING IN EXCESS OF 20MPH AT THE TIME, WHEN I CONTACTED THE MINI-VAN NO AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED. I SUFFERED HITS TO MY HEAD, WHIPLASH RELATED DAMAGES, DAMAGE TO MY SHOULDER AND RIGHT LEG. MY CAR WOULDN'T START. BATTERY WAS FINE..PASSENGERS HAD RECENTLY SAID THAT THEY NOTICED A FUEL SMELL, BUT I CAN'T SMELL (A PHYSICAL HANDICAP OF MINE).; CALLED AAA- IT WAS THEN THAT WE NOTICED THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING OUT OF THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK, THE FUEL PUMP WIRE THAT SUPPLIES POWER TO THE FUEL PUMP WAS BROKEN. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO A LOCAL GARAGE. CALLED NISSAN DEALER AND HE SAID 'YOUR CAR IS OLD, JUST REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. BUT, THE DESIGN OF THE GAS TANK IS SUCH THAT THERE IS A 'GULLY' WHERE WATER GETS TRAPPED ON THE DESIGN OF THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. NISSAN REFUSES TO ADMIT THAT THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT IS CAUSING THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANKS TO CORRODE; AND THIS IS INDEED A SAFETY ISSUE! AS A MECHANICAL ENGINEER WHO SPECIALIZES IN METALS, IT IS DEFINITELY A POOR DESIGN; I HAVE OWNED AND WORKED ON CARS MY ENTIRE LIFE, AND HAVE NEVER SEEN A FUEL TANK CORRODE THROUGH. EXHAUST MANIFOLD. I HAD TO CALL NISSAN HQ BACK BOTH TIMES JUST TO GET AND ANSWER THAT YES IT IS COVERED AND NO THEY CAN'T FIX IT. I AM COMPLETELY OVER NISSANS FAULTY WORKMANSHIP. I TOOK MY X IN TO HAVE THE 60K MAINT DONE AND THEY HAD THE NERVE TO TELL ME ABOUT MY BRAKES, BUT DIDN'T TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT THE CRACKED MANIFOLD. THEY EVEN TOLD ME THAT THEY SAW IT BUT DIDN'T THINK IT WAS ANYTHING TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT. IF IT WASN'T FROM THE DEALER CHARGING ME FOR OVERFILLING MY TRANS FLUID AND NOT TIGHTENING A TRANS HOSE FITTING, I WOULD HAD DROVE THE THING UNTIL THE NEXT TIME TO CHANGE THE OIL AND NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE CRACK IN THE MANIFOLD OR RAN THE TRANSMISSION DRY. I ASKED THE LADY AT HQ'S, IF I HAD TAKEN MY X IN WITH 60K MILES ON IT AND THEY HAD FOUND THE CRACK WOULD IT BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY? SHE TOLD ME NO THEN WENT ON TO TELL ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO BRING IT IN ON 59999K AND IT WOULD HAD BEEN. I HAD TAKEN IT IN PRIOR TO THE 60K TO WHICH THE DEALER DID NOTHING OR NOTED NOTHING. THEN AFTER FINDING THE TRANS FLUID LEAK I TOOK IT BACK IN WHICH WAS ABOUT 3 DAYS LATER. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK IN IT WAS OVER THE 60K. NOW AFTER THE DEALER QUOTED ME 4 DIFFERENT PRICES RANGING FROM 300-1500 DOLLARS ON REPAIRING THE EXACT SAME THING (EXHAUST MANIFOLD). I AM PAYING MORE FOR GAS DUE TO THE LOW MILEAGE FROM THE CRACKED/FAULTY MANIFOLD. I CONSTANTLY SMELL EXHAUST DURING TRAVELING(STOPS).
