When driving at a slow speed and applying full brakes, the car rather than stopping quickly took more time to stop and thus resulted in an accident - collided with the car in front. There was a recall for this car in 2019 for exactly this problem - R1814. Apparently, the fix the dealer has performed didn’t alleviate the problem. I sincerely request you to perform a thorough assessment of the recommended fix for this recall to safeguard others from this serious safety issue. Also, if possible, I request you to arrange for assessment of my vehicle to confirm if my ABS concerns are true which I truly believe they’re.

The brake pedal gets really stiff, hard to depress and the brakes gradually engage until they almost stop the vehicle. All the brakes get extremely hot when this occurs.

Nissan has a voluntary recall for faulty air bag sensors on 2009 Nissan Murano but when you take it in they say your vin is not included. This is fraud because they know that ALL Muranos from 2009 and other years have a faulty sensor in the passenger seat and the air bags will NOT deploy. They lie because the fix is a new seat cushion which is expensive. They try to charge owners $5000 to repair a safety issue that is their responsibility. There are many, many complaints for this issue and many people are driving around without airbags because of Nissan’s dereliction. How many people will die??

In reference to my 2009 Murano, I like to bring my concern/complaint into your attention that since Jan 07, 2023, my Murano's airbag light is blinking. On Jan. 16, 2023, I took my SUV to ACME Nissan dealer situated at 2050 Highway 130, South Brunswick, NJ. 08852 for checkup and repair. Dealer diagnosed airbag issue code B1018 and advised "in control unit K8820-1AL0A and 873A2-3Z53A seat sensor are bad and need to be replaced. Dealer mentioned that they cannot replace these part/sensors, because they are not available thru Nissan anymore. Dealer also tried to get these parts from the aftermarket dealer. But these parts are also not available in aftermarket. Not functioning of airbags is a big-time Safety issue. I contacted Nissan customer service support and opened the case (48254432). But some reason they are not helping me at all in resolving this safety issue. Their answer is, they cannot do anything for this issue. While going through the Nissan forum, I noticed that this safety issue is common in Nissan Murano. This wonders that why Nissan have not issued any recall on this airbag safety issues. Are they going to issue the recall after someone die in the accident because of this airbag issues. Now I cannot even trade my SUV because of this safety issue. Now I am too afraid to drive my 2009 Murano. I love my Murano so much it runs like a new and I am not in the position to buy a new Murano at this time. I would really appreciate if you can request Nissan to rectify this issue as soon as possible.

The icon for the passenger airbags are flashing on my vehicle dashboard about two months ago (11/2022). Back in 2013 my vehicle was in a crash with substantial front end damage…no other vehicle was involved. Also the airbags in front row seats did not deploy. I’m planning on taking in my vehicle to get it checked out and tuned. Any guidance from NHTSA is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

When stopped at stop lights or even a stop sign & it's my time to go my vehicle will "creep" at a snail's pace regardless of my position on the gas petal, then all of a sudden jerk & take off fast. On 2 occasions my vehicle would not even go when the turn light went to green & I quickly shifted to "L" where it did take off & the rooms jumped to 5000 & after getting out of heavy traffic I put it back in Drive. This issue occurs randomly & I've had a verbal conversation with a mechanic in my family that says, my 2009 Murano has a CVT transmission, they are very costly to replace. I only have 159,000 miles on my Murano & I drive my Autistic grandson to school & home only. I'm only bringing this to your attention to fund out if I'm the only person that has had issues with the CVT transmission bc a $4-$5000 new transmission is impossible for us. This has been happening off & on for about 6 months.

WAS AT LOWES WITH MY GRAND DAUGHTER WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED AND THE STEERING LOCK INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ON. VEHICLE WOULD NOT START DUE TO THE MALFUNCTION OF THE STEERING LOCK BOX. WEATHER WAS BAD AND A GENTLEMAN TRIED ASSISTING ME BUT TO NO AVAIL. AFTER LOOKING AT THE INDICATOR LIGHTS HE INFORMED ME HE HAD HEARD OF THIS ISSUE AND THE PROBLEM WAS IN FACT DUE TO A FAULTY STEERING LOCK BOX. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY TEMPORARY HOME AND HERE IT SITS. MY HOME FLOODED WITH 7' OF WATER MID AUGUST AND IS STILL UNINHABITABLE. I'M A GRANDMOTHER WITH LIMITED FUNDS AND REALLY CANNOT AFFORD TO SPEND THE LARGE SUM OF MONEY REQUIRED TO PAY FOR A KNOWN DEFECTIVE PART. DURING MY RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THAT NISSAN KNOWING THIS ISSUE HAS NOW IMITED THE WARRANTY TIME ON THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH and making a left turn, she heard a sound like loosened bolts coming from the rear driver's side tire. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear end subframe was severely rusted and parts of the suspension had fractured and detached from the subframe. The mechanic determined that the entire rear end needed to be replaced. The contact previously had the brake pads, rotors, and calipers replaced on the rear of the vehicle prior to the frame failure and was informed by the mechanic that the stress of having had brakes installed might have contributed to the frame being fractured. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

I brought this vehicle from a car dealership in cash. The dealership told me everything is working fine within the car since it's a used car. I've only used it 3 weeks from the date I brought it now it not running anymore. Tried to get ahold of the dealership they don't answer any of my calls.

Got car on June 15 after 3:30. Five hours later the car would not reverse or drive forward. Sound like gears would not shift. And the car was also dropped of to me with no antifreeze. I found codes: P1700, P0868, P1778, P0746 and Top Motors who I bought the car from towed the car to fix it but has not told me what was wrong with the car. I have not heard from them and I missed one and a half day of work. They gave me a 6 month warranty but it should have been 2 year warranty. They said it will take at least a week to get it back to me. I have been without my car for 5 days. The car was on Carfax website. I would like a 2 year Warranty and half of the money back of what I paid for the car.

ON 2/19/21 I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 MURANO ON A WINDY MORNING DOWN I-90 (ISSAQUAH) ON AT AROUND 65MPH IN THE SLOW LANE, AND MY CLOSED SUNROOF GLASS DISENGAGED AND BLEW OFF THE CAR, LUCKILY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME AT THE TIME, ELSE IT COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE CAUSE FOR A RECALL, OR AT LEAST REPLACEMENT BY NISSAN CORP. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF AN ISSUE, AND WE'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 8 YEARS. The fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the flames. The cause of the fire was not determined. A fire report was taken at the scene that indicated the fire originated in the engine compartment. Two parked vehicles were also damaged during the incident. While driving the car, you could hear a squeaking noise coming from the rear passenger side of the car. It would get louder if you hit a bump. It took mechanics awhile to figure out what it was but it turned out to be the rear subframe had rusted through on the rear passenger side. The rest of the subframe is not rusted. However, it is now not safe to drive.

Thumping from the rear, took the car in and was told rear shocks and sway bar needed replaced. When I took the car in for service, I was told the rear sub frame had rusted through and the vehicle should not be driven. I was told that part was on a national backorder, so for now one could not be ordered to fix the car. With the backorder, the mechanic thought there might be a recall, which brought me to this site. This car has been well taken care of and ran through the carwash at least once a week.

RECENTLY I HAD MY ELDERLY PARENTS VISITING AND REALIZED HOW DANGEROUS IT WAS THAT MY MOTHER COULD NOT GET OUT OF THE CAR ON HER OWN AS THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR WON'T OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. BUT WHEN I "ALARM/LOCK" THE CAR, THE DOORS WILL STILL OPEN AND THE ALARM WILL SOUND. BUT THERE IS NO SAFETY OF HAVING LOCKED DOORS THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR STILL WORKS BUT THERE IS A MISERABLE RATTLE INSIDE. I OWN A 2009 NISSAN MURANO S MODEL. MY DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR POWER LOCK JAMMED 3 DAYS AGO FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHATSOEVER. I WENT TO WORK AND WHEN I CAME OUT THE KEYLESS ENTRY KEY DID NOT UNLOCK THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. ALL OTHER DOORS WERE FINE. I BROUGHT IT THE DEALER ON MONDAY WHO COULD NOT GET THE DOOR UNLOCKED AND THEN NOTIFIED ME THAT THE DOOR PANEL ACCESS WAS IN THE PART OF THE CAR INACCESSIBLE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT GET THE DOOR OPENED AT ALL. OUR VEHICLE IS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO SL WITH RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE. AROUND NOVEMBER OF 2010 THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS BEGAN TO RANDOMLY FAIL TO WORK ON THIS VEHICLE. OVER A PERIOD OF SEVERAL MONTHS THE MALFUNCTIONING DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS SPREAD TO ALL FOUR OF THE DOORS ON THIS CAR. I HAVE CONTACTED TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS AFTER HAVING LEARNED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON FAILURE ON MULTIPLE YEAR MODELS OF NISSANS. BOTH DEALERS EXPLAINED THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD LIKELY RUN $1200 TO $1800 TO FIX ALL FOUR DOORS. LIVING IN THE HOUSTON AREA AND HAVING A GRANDCHILD, THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. NISSAN SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO RECALL THE VEHICLES SUFFERING FROM THIS DEFECT. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the battery was reset, and the warning light disappeared. A few weeks later, the warning light returned, and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the failure with a defective sensor inside the passenger’s side seat. The backup camera only works at night and even then it is grainy. During the day I can only see a green screen with the yellow and red guidelines. But not what is actually behind my vehicle. This is very dangerous and makes backing this 2009 Nissan Murano SUV difficult. It's a large vehicle with blind spots. The main reason I bought the car was because it has a backup camera installed. I have seen blogs with same complaint. Nissan offers no help or solution. Have been told I would have to buy a whole new camera and dash navigation screen. Very expensive.

WE HAVE HAD A FEW UNPLEASANT REPAIRS, NEW BRAKES AT 30,000, NEW TIRES AT 32,000 AND NOW AT ONLY 57,000 MILES CRACKED HEAD GASKETS. WE HAVE HAD ALL THE RECOMMEND SERVICES PERFORMED. BOTH FOBS (CAR KEYS) WENT BAD ON MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO, UNABLE TO LOCK AND OPEN DOORS USING THE FOB. I HAD TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE FOB TO UNLOCK THE DOORS. AT NIGHT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AS I HAD TO STRUGGLE TO TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE CASE IN THE DARK. REPLACED BATTERIES IN THE FOB AND DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. ON JANUARY 22, 2014 I MAILED A LETTER TO NISSAN OF AMERICA ASKING FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF THE NEW FOB I HAD TO PURCHASE. NISSAN WAS UNABLE TO OFFER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FOB AS THE VEHICLE BEING OUTSIDE OF THE NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY. ALTHOUGH A BARELY AUDIBLE CHIME RINGS, A DRIVER CAN EXIT THE VEHICLE AND IF THE VEHICLE IS ON AN INCLINE, IT CAN ROLL FREELY!! I AM EXPERIENCING A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO. I AM NOTIFYING THE NHTSA OF THIS ISSUE BECAUSE IT NEEDS FURTHER INVESTIGATION. I AM STUNNED THAT NISSAN HAS BEEN SO CARELESS WITH MY SAFETY, ESPECIALLY IN THE WAKE OF THE TOYOTA DEBACLE. THERE IS AN OPEN RECALL ON MY VEHICLE'S MAKE AND MODEL FOR ITS FAULTY TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS). THE NISSAN RECALL NUMBER IS 09V393000, WHICH STATES THAT THE TPMS IS FLAWED AND PRONE TO CORROSION AND FAILURE DUE TO A FAULTY NUT USED IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. THE RECALL AFFECTS VEHICLES IN NORTHERN STATES WHERE THE SALTY ROADS EXCESSIVELY CORRODES THE NUT USED TO MANUFACTURE THE 2009 TPMS, AT WHICH POINT "THE TIRE WILL QUICKLY LOSE AIR PRESSURE AT A CONSISTENT RATE RESULTING IN A FLAT TIRE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH," ACCORDING TO THE NISSAN RECALL. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE RECALL UNTIL MY CAR FAILED INSPECTION RECENTLY. NISSAN'S CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT HAS DENIED SERVICE TO MY VEHICLE. THEY CLAIM THAT MY VIN NUMBER DOESN'T APPLY TO THE RECALL. AFTER INSPECTING MY CAR, IRA NISSAN IN TEWKSBURY, MA STATED IN ITS REPORT THAT MY VEHICLE IS CLEARLY AFFECTED BY THE TPMS DEFECT. NISSAN HEADQUARTERS STATES MY VEHICLE WAS NOT MANUFACTURED WITH THE NUT IN QUESTION - THE NUT THAT THE COMPANY HAS PUBLICLY ACKNOWLEDGED IS SERIOUSLY FLAWED. MY RESPONSE? THEN THE EVIDENCE SUGGESTS THIS ISSUE IS MUCH LARGER IN SCOPE THAN THIS ONE NUT FROM THIS ONE VENDOR. NISSAN IS UNWILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEY HAVE A LARGER ISSUE ON THEIR HANDS. RECENTLY, A PROBLEM AROSE WITH MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO'S OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (OCS). THE AIRBAG LIGHT IN MY CAR HAD TURNED ON SO I BROUGHT IT TO THE MECHANIC. AFTER NUMEROUS EFFORTS, HE SUGGESTED THAT I BRING IT TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER. WHEN I DID, THEY WERE AT A LOSS AS TO WHAT TO DO. AT THE TIME, I CALLED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA ('NNA') TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING THEY COULD DO. AFTER REGISTERING MY CONCERNS, NNA APPARENTLY MADE SOME INQUIRIES OF THE DEALER AND THEN TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO MY MECHANIC, WHO REASSEMBLED THE PASSENGER SEAT AND, SURPRISINGLY, THE AIRBAG LIGHT WENT OFF. THIS SOLUTION WAS ONLY TEMPORARY. I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC AGAIN, WHO DISCOVERED A RECALL CAMPAIGN ON AN IDENTICAL ISSUE WHICH INCLUDED MY CAR'S MAKE AND MODEL. SPECIFICALLY, NISSAN RECALL CAMPAIGN BULLETIN NTB08-095, ISSUED 11/4/2008. (ALSO SEE ID #: P8242, NHTSA #: 08V-521.) MY MECHANIC AGAIN REFERRED ME TO THE DEALER, WHO TOLD ME THAT 'OCCUPANT SENSOR PERFORMED PIN TEST AND FOUND INTERNAL FAILURE WITH OCCUPANT SENSOR'. I THEN CONTACTED NISSAN AND OPENED A CASE REGARDING MY SITUATION (#37964757). I RECEIVED A RESPONSE THAT THE OCS IN MY CAR WAS SOMEHOW DIFFERENT FROM THOSE THAT WERE COVERED BY THE RECALL. HOWEVER, WHEN MY PROBLEMS ARE SO SIMILAR TO THOSE DESCRIBED BY THE RECALL BULLETIN, AND THE SAME TEST THAT IS USED FOR THE RECALL FOUND ISSUES WITH MY CAR, I DON'T SEE WHY CARS WITH THE SAME OCS AS MINE SHOULD NOT BE COVERED BY THE CAMPAIGN. THERE IS NO REASON NOT TO. IT IS THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL OF THE RECALL AND IS SUFFERING FROM THE SAME ISSUE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY ONE GROUP OF CARS IS COVERED BUT ANOTHER IS NOT EVEN THOUGH BOTH GROUPS ARE AFFLICTED BY THE SAME PROBLEMS. I HOPE THAT THE SCOPE OF THE RECALL CAN BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ALL CARS THAT, LIKE MINE, POSE A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD TO THEIR DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS.

WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A RURAL ROUTE, AT 9:10PM, THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING WITHOUT MY FOOT. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BREAK PEDAL. I STEPPED VERY HARD AND STARTED SLOWING DOWN. WHEN I LOOSEN THE PEDAL, THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING. ALL THE SUDDEN I HEARD POPPING SOUND AND STARTED SLOWING DOWN. I THINK THAT WAS THE SOUND OF THE GAS PEDAL RELEASED. AT 9:15PM, THE GAS PEDAL WAS STUCK AGAIN. THE ACCELERATION WAS FULL AND REACHED TO THE 80 MILES VERY QUICKLY. I STEPPED THE BREAK PEDAL SLOWLY BUT VERY HARD THEN STARTED SLOWING DOWN. I TRIED TO PULL MY CAR ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT COULD NOT STOP. SO, I PUT THE GEAR INTO "N". I HARD THE GAS WAS STILL GOING. MY FRONT BRAKES ARE SQUEAKY. EVEN AFTER HAVING MY BRAKES REGULARLY SERVICED WITH PADS AND ROTORS THE BRAKES STILL SQUEAK. THEIR HAVE ALSO BEEN TIMES WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE BUT THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN AS EXPECTED. I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES TO RE-ENGAGE THEM. ONCE THIS CAUSED ME TO ROLL INTO AN INTERSECTION WHICH LUCKILY NO OTHER CARS WERE NEAR ME. NOW MY FRONT LEFT WHEEL HAS STARTED MAKING LOUD SWOOSHING AND SCREECHING NOISES. THE FASTER I DRIVE THE LOUDER THE NOISE GETS. THE SQUEAK IN THE LEFT FRONT TIRE IS ALSO PRESENT WHEN DRIVING IN NEUTRAL. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THE CAR SERVICED ON WEDNESDAY. REPLACED ABS CONTROL MOD ASSY AND BRAKES APPEARED NORMAL AGAIN. 6 DAYS LATER ON 1/10/2013. STREET WAS SNOW COVERED. I LIGHTLY APPLIED BRAKES & VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE CONTROL, WITH REAR OF THE VEHICLE TRYING TO COME AROUND. I HAVE A REPEATED ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH MY CAR. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT MY ISSUE WAS DIAGNOSED IMPROPERLY BUT I WAS RECENTLY ON THE NHTSA PAGE AND FOUND OVER 20 COMPLAINTS THAT EXPRESSED THE SAME EXACT ISSUE I HAVE BEEN HAVING. THAT ISSUE BEING THE FACT THAT MY CAR, WHEN IN MOTION WILL COMPLETELY SHUT OFF ON ME AND GO INTO NEUTRAL. THIS WILL HAPPEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND FOR ME HAS HAPPENED BOTH TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE GOING 75 MPH. ONCE THE CAR STALLS OUT, THE POWER STEERING WILL ALSO GO OUT IN ABOUT 30 SECONDS AND THE ENGINE WILL COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AT THAT TIME. THEREFORE, YOU HAVE ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO ROLL YOUR CAR TO A SAFE SPOT IN ORDER TO AVOID A CRASH. THERE IS NO TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON, AS WHEN YOU TRY TO DO SO ALL OF THE DASH LIGHTS WILL COME ON AND THE ENGINE WILL NOT START BACK UP AS THE BATTERY IS DEAD OR CLOSE TO IT. IF YOU ARE LUCKY YOU CAN GET JUMPED BUT THE BATTERY BECOMES SO DRAINED THAT IT CANNOT EVEN HOLD A CHARGE FOR A MILES WORTH OF POWER. BOTH TIMES I HAVE HAD TO HAVE MY MURANO TOWED INTO A SHOP. THE FIRST TIME THIS ISSUE OCCURRED I WAS TOLD I NEED MY BATTERY REPLACED AS IT WAS DEAD AND THAT WAS THE CAUSE OF MY ENGINE FAILURE. THIS SOUNDED STRANGE TO ME AT THE TIME, AS THE BATTERY THAT I HAD WAS A LITTLE LESS THAN A YEAR OLD BUT I WAS JUST WANTING TO PICKUP A WORKING CAR AND PUT THIS BEHIND ME. MY CAR WORKED PROPERLY FOR 48 DAYS BEFORE I AGAIN, HAD THE SAME EXACT ISSUE OCCUR TO ME, WHILE AGAIN TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 75 MPH. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. THE NUT HOLDING THE TPMS SENSOR/TIRE FILL VALVE FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY WITH 2 LONGITUDINAL CRACKS WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH ON INTERSTATE 5 NEAR VALENCIA, CALIFORNIA. TIRE PRESSURE RELEASED SUDDENLY (NO PREVIOUS WARNING BY THE TPMS SYSTEM). THE CAR PULLED STRONGLY TO THE LEFT (FAILURE WAS IN THE FRONT LEFT TIRE). REGAINED CONTROL OF THE CAR AND PULLED OFF TO SHOULDER. NUT SHOWS EVIDENCE OF CORROSION AND DIRT IN ONE OF THE TWO CRACKS. TIRE WAS UNDAMAGED BY ANY ROAD HAZARD, ONLY THE TPMS SENSOR/FILL VALVE WAS LOOSE IN THE WHEEL, AND THE NUT CAME APART WHEN HAND INSPECTING THE VALVE. A NISSAN SERVICE BULLETIN EXISTS FOR CORRODED NUTS IN EASTERN STATES WHERE SALT IS USED ON ROADS, HOWEVER THIS VEHICLE HAS STRICTLY BEEN IN CALIFORNIA, WITH LESS THAN 10 TRIPS TO SKI AREAS IN CALIFORNIA, WHICH DOES NOT USE SALT ON ITS ROADS. My 2009 Nissan Murano had a bad battery and starter, after replaced them the ABS/VDC/Slip control light were illuminated and ABS function lost. I searched online and found a lot of the Murano owners had the same issue by just replacing a battery then got these DTCs. At the end we found Nissan know this issue and issue a TSB for repair with customer's expense. They know this is factory issue but not recall it or even not notify their customer, it's safety issue and still need the customer to search it and repair with the customer's money (to pay their faults). I HAVE LESS THAN 57,000 MILES ON MY 2009 MURANO. AT 46,000 MILES, I HAD TO HAVE MY FAILED TRANSMISSION REPLACED AND I'M HAVING ISSUES AGAIN WITH IT SLIPPING INTO LOW GEAR. THE DEALERSHIP COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE ISSUE, SO NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO ADDRESS IT. I HAD TO TAKE MY MURANO IN FOR SERVICE AGAIN BECAUSE I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT WHEN MY BRAKES DIDN'T WORK AT 30 MPH AND I HAD TO QUICKLY CHANGE LANES TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THERE WASN'T ANY BRAKE PRESSURE AND I HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDDLE TO THE FLOOR BEFORE IT STOPPED.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving, the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard. Additionally, while driving, the brake pedal was depressed and was slow to respond. The diagnostic trouble code C1109: (Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module Actuator (Electrical Control Unit) and low voltage battery message were displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed twice. The contact was informed that the brakes needed to be flushed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

NISSAN REFUSES TO RECOGNIZE A KNOWN PROBLEM IN THE NISSAN ROGUE IN IT'S BIG BROTHER THE NISSAN MURANO. THE DOOR ACTUATOR SOLENOID GOES OUT AND LOCKS PEOPLE INTO OR OUT OF THEIR CAR, WHERE THE REMOTE, KEY, DOOR HANDLE OR CROWBAR CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR CAUSING A POTENTIALLY FATAL SAFETY ISSUE. IF A PASSENGER IS UNABLE TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY IT COULD RESULT IN FATALITIES. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO OFFERED TO BREAK MY DOOR PANEL TO ASSESS THE ISSUE, A $300+ EXPENSE TO ME, NOT TO MENTION THE LABOR BREAKING MY DOOR PANEL. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS AGO AND I WAS NOTIFIED OF THE TRANSFER CASE LEAKING AND WAS QUOTED AT LEAST $3,000 TO FIX IT. We bought our 2009 Murano new back when we were expecting our baby cause it was rated one of the safest suv on the market. For the most part besides some brake issues and the steering linkage that I had scheduled to have replaced last month its treated us well. Last month with our now [XXX] old daughter I took it to go to a concert an hr from our house. On the highway I felt it swaying which I found weird cause it was swaying from the rear of the vehicle not the front where the linkage is. We drove home slowly and the next day I dropped it off at our mechanics to have the linkage replaced and asked him to check out the sway I felt. He immediately called me after he got it on the lift and said I needed to head to the shop that our suv was JUNK! When I got there I could not believe my eyes and thanked God that I and even more my daughter made it home safely. My mechanic of 35yrs in business said we were lucky we didn't end up in the woods on the highway and that the entire rear k member/ frame is completely rotted out and the rear tires could have flown off at any moment. I have read that there is a recall on this issue but not in the salt belt states. That is ridiculous and is an excuse to not have to back your vehicle. We live in Dartmouth MA and have barely had any snow in the past 10 yrs to salt for and even if we had this hasn't happen to any other vehicles we own. 2003GMC, 2006 Saab and my wifes Jeep all gd. Whats the point of getting a safety check during the annual inspection when you know your frame is junk and its a death trap!How in good faith can you not back your products when this is clearly a major issue. Nissan needs to do the right thing and take care of the people who have taken care of them by buying there vehicles. This vehicle has always been meticulously maintained, washed constantly at car wash with the extra fee of undercarriage spray for what when its rotting from the inside out as you are aware off. When starting my vehicle, it would shake and hesitate to turn on. While driving, It would hesitate when accelerating. When driving at 70 miles, the vehicle would hesitate then drop 3 to 4 miles below speed on its own. The dashboard would indicate drive mode then change to reverse mode then back to drive mode, then reverse mode continuously while driving. The car was also making a loud clanking noise. When I was at a standstill at a red light with foot on the brake, the car was jerking forward on its own. I was driving the car with my 2 year old when this happened and decided to take it to a mechanic who confirmed that it is a transmission problem as well as a broken axle on the left. I left the car at his shop and started shopping around for a transmission replacement which is very costly. My concern is, if this has been a faulty issue with 2009 Nissan Murano transmissions, then it is likely that this can happen again if I purchase a used transmission which at this time, I cannot afford so it is sitting at the mechanics repair shop until I either save money for a transmission or use the money to get a better used vehicle. This has happened on two different occasions. While driving the vehicle the alternator has gone out and there is no warning that there is any problem but you lose your throttle control and the car loses power and is unable to accelerate. The 1st time this happened I was in the middle of an intersection trying to make a left turn and lost all power to be able to move the car. Luckly no one was coming in the other direction, or I could have been involved in a serious accident!!! I had the alternator check and it was bad, so we replaced it. The second time this happened was two days ago I was doing 65 MPH on a four-lane highway and without any warning I lost power and could not accelerate I was able to pull to the side of the road, but m emergency flashers were of no use due to the battery was low because the entire car was using it for power. The car has no gauge or light of any type to warn you that the alternator has failed till you lose power and are unable to accelerate.

Tire pressure monitoring system is not working although the air pressure is kept as requested. The light is always ON which makes identification of loss of air pressure difficult to dictate, and can cause loss of vehicle control and serious damage in highways.

While trying to make a turn in a busy intersection, the car stall and loses power it goes into a limp mode. The car slowly limps out of traffic to the side. Note VDC off and 2 red - neg sign brake light is on. Turn the ignition off for a few minutes. Turn ignition back on and no problem. The car starts up no problem. I had the brakes check out and no issues. I took to Nissan dealership . They said it is the alternator. I had new alternator put in 6 months ago. Took back to the company who put the alternator on He said it is working. They said this car notorious for the CVT transmission issues. This problem has happen twice in traffic. This is not safe.... I am afraid to drive this car.

As with the current Nissan recall the car just shutoff. On two separate occasions, one at highway speed on a high speed heavy traffic road and once of a neighborhood road. Both times spontaneously and without any warning or trouble lights or indications of a problem. Vehicles was towed and serviced at a Nissan dealership.. Both incidents were extremely dangerous one to get to shoulder in high speed traffic and to exit vehicle next to traffic and the other at night in a dark neighborhood. Dealer was without explanation on cause so we dont know if the problem is fixed or not. Prior request #602941

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that months after she purchased the vehicle, while she was driving, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle started to jump. Additionally, the contact stated that on a separate occasion while driving, the vehicle intermittently went into Limp Mode and stalled. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that assistance would not be provided. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

AFTER ARRIVING HOME I PULLED INTO THE GARAGE TO DETERMINE THE LOCATION OF THE NOISE, I PLACED A JACK UNDER THE REAR DOOR ON THE PINCH WELD AND RAISE THE WHEEL OFF THE GROUND AND REMOVED THE TIRE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I NOTICED THE THE RIGHT REAR SUBFRAME WHICH CONNECTS TO THE REAR FRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED FROM TOP TO BOTTOM WITH ONLY A FRACTION OF THE METAL REMAINING AROUND THE BUSHING. THE DRIVER SIDE REAR SUBFRAME CONNECTION IS ALSO RUSTED FROM TOP TO BOTTOM, THE SUBFRAME ON THE DRIVER IS CONTACTING ABOUT 90 PERCENT OF THE BUSHING THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE SUBFRAME IS CONTACTING ABOUT 10 PERCENT OF THE BUSHING. THE RUST ON THE REST OF THE VEHICLE FRAME AND FRONT SUBFRAME IS SLIGHTLY RUSTED. MY VEHICLE IS 2009 NISSAN MURANO WITH 160,000 MILES. THIS IS MY MAIN VEHICLE FOR TRANSPORTATION FOR MY KIDS AND FAMILY. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN KNOWN TO NISSAN AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE NOTIFIED NISSAN OF THIS MANUFACTURING ISSUE. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN I HIT THE GAS TO GO WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN THE CAR WOULD NOT GO. THE CAR STOP WITHIN THREE BLOCKS AND ON THE HIGHWAY. I RETURNED IT BACK TO NISSAN SERVICE CENTER, NOW, THEY SAID IT'S THE ALTERNATOR. I INFORMED THEM THAT I HAVE THE ALTERNATOR CHANGED LEST THAN 30 DAYS. THE CAR IS A LEMON BECAUSE OF THE ABS MODULE THAT NISSAN CANOT FIX OR UNABLE TO FIX. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE WITH THIS MANY BLIND SPOTS! I HAVE HAD SO MANY "CLOSE CALLS" AND IT FINALLY CAUGHT UP TO ME. I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING PLACE AND BACKED INTO A CAR. THE CAR WAS DOUBLE PARKED BUT I LOOKED IN MY MIRRORS AND OVER MY SHOULDER AND NEVER SEEN THE CAR. THIS BEING SAID, I WAS ALREADY SCARED OF MY MURANO PRIOR TO THIS BECAUSE OF THE SIDE BLIND SPOTS. I HAVE ALMOST HIT PEDESTRIANS, CARS, AND BICYCLISTS CROSSING THE STREET ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WHERE THE SIDE MIRRORS ARE IS WAY TO BIG, ALONG WITH THE MIRRORS, THERE IS A HUGE BLIND SPOT. I HAVE BEEN VERY CAUTIOUS WHEN TURNING BECAUSE OF THIS BUT NEVER REALIZED HOW THE BLIND SPOT IN THE SIDE REAR WAS I TILL I HIT THAT CAR. THE REAR BACK WINDOWS ARE SMALL BUT THE ISSUES IS THE WINDOWS ARE TO HIGH AND THE BODY IS AT AN UPWARD SLANT LEAVING NO VIEW WHEN LOOKING OVER YOUR SHOULDER. THIS GIVES PEOPLE A SENSE THAT THEY CAN SEE BUT YOU CAN NOT SEE A CAR SITTING AT YOUR REAR QUARTER PANEL. AFTER STARTING FROM A COLD START (PARKED OVERNIGHT) I NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SOFT AND WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS NO PRIOR SIGN OF BRAKE FAILURE AND THE CAR STILL COULD STOP, JUST NOT AS QUICKLY OR FIRMLY AS NORMAL. CAR WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHO DIAGNOSED A LEAKING MASTER CYLINDER BUT THERE WAS NO BRAKE FAILURE WARNING LIGHT. AFTER THE SHOP REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BLEED THE SYSTEM THEY FOUND ANOTHER LEAK IN THE ABS CONTROLLER/ECU MODULE. AN INTERNAL LEAK, AND NO REPAIR IS POSSIBLE. THE SHOP SAYS THEY HAVE SPOKEN TO NISSAN AND LOOKED ONLINE BUT FIND NO INFORMATION ABOUT OTHER SIMILAR BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURES, NO TSB'S, NO RECALLS. I FIND IT VERY DISTURBING THAT TWO CRITICAL BRAKE PARTS COULD BOTH BE LEAKING AND FAILING, AND THE CAR SHOWED NO BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS, NO ABS WARNING LIGHTS, NO INDICATION OF ANY PROBLEM WHILE THE BRAKES HAD OBVIOUSLY ALREADY FAILED. THIS IS A FAIRLY LOW MILEAGE SINGLE-OWNER VEHICLE WHICH HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED PROPERLY. THE FAILED PARTS (BRAKE MASTER AND ABS CONTROLLER/ECU ARE BEING HELD AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION.

SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING OUR 2009 NISSAN MURANO IN SEPT 2012 A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD AT TIMES IN THE FLOOR BOARD...IT WAS DISCOVERED TO BE A BROKEN MOTOR MOUNT...THIS WAS REPLACED UNDER 30 DAY WARRANTY FROM PLACE OF PURCHASE. THE SUNROOF COVER ALSO WAS DEFECTIVE AS IT WOULD NOT OPEN COMPLETELY AT TIMES AND ALSO REQUIRED REPLACING. SINCE THIS TIME IN 2013 THE WIPERS DO NOT WORK PROPERLY AT ALL TIMES...THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECREATED FOR A TECH TO INSPECT....SOMETIMES THEY DO NOT GO AS FAST AS SHOULD IF HEAVY RAIN AND OTHER TIMES GO TOO FAST IF BARELY DRIZZLING, THIS IS ON THE INTERMITTENT FUNCTION. FEBRUARY 2014 WAS DUE TO TAKE IN FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGE THAT DAY AND SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON THAT MORNING...WAS ADVISED NEEDS NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER, WAS AT 85K, MANF. WARRANTY WENT OUT AT 80K, EXTENDED WARRANTY WE PURCHASED AND PAID EXTRA FOR WAS TO COVER UP TO 150K; HOWEVER, DOES NOT COVER THIS PART. PROBLEM WITH THE TILT AND TELESCOPE OF THE STEERING COLUMN. WHEN TURNING ON THE CAR, GEARS SEEM TO BE GRINDING AND THE AUTOMATIC FEATURE NO LONGER WORKS. ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 2, 2011, I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR EXPRESSWAY. WHILE TRYING TO EXIT FROM THE EXPRESSWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL ON MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO LOCKED, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO TURN IT. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY AN 18-WHEEL SEMI-TRAILER TRUCK. THE INCIDENT RESULTED IN BLACK SKID/TIRE MARKS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BY MY CAR AND THE TRUCK THAT WAS TRYING TO AVOID FROM HITTING ME. NISSAN'S CONTRACTED TOWING SERVICE HAD TO TOW MY VEHICLE INTO NISSAN'S SHOP SINCE THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DRIVEN SAFELY AFTER THE INCIDENT. ON AUGUST 3, THE SERVICE ADVISOR CALLED TO SAY THAT THE PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING WHEEL HAD BEEN FIXED. HE INDICATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN BECAUSE OF A FAULTY SERPENTINE BELT. HE SAID THE SERPENTINE BELT WAS REPLACED, THAT THEY HAD TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE BEFORE ITS RELEASE TO ME, AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOW SAFE TO DRIVE. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT MY NISSAN HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN IN NISSAN'S SHOP BARELY A WEEK BEFORE THE AUGUST 2ND INCIDENT, ON JULY 21ST, FOR OTHER DEFECT ISSUES WHICH WERE COVERED BY WARRANTY. WHEN THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR THE JULY REPAIRS, THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES HAD INDICATED THAT THEY HAD DONE A FULL INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE. WHAT IS INTERESTING TO ME IS THAT DURING THE FULL INSPECTION, NISSAN DID NOT DISCOVER ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE SERPENTINE BELT THEN. IF THE BELT WERE WEARING AWAY, NISSAN SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DISCOVER AND DISCLOSE THE WEAR AND TEAR DURING THE FULL INSPECTION IN LATE JULY. EVEN AFTER THE SERPENTINE BELT WAS REPLACED ON AUGUST 3, 2011, THE STEERING WHEEL IS STILL DIFFICULT TO STEER. I'M NOT SURE WHETHER THIS IS A MANUFACTURING/DESIGN DEFECT, BUT I THINK THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO CAREFULLY SINCE THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. IF A DRIVER IS SLOWING DOWN TO GET READY TO TURN BUT SUDDENLY CANNOT TURN BECAUSE OF A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING WHEEL, ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING BEHIND COULD EASILY HIT THE DRIVER IN FRONT. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE FRONT BUMPER ON THE VEHICLE HAD THREE SMALL HOLES WHICH ALLOWED DEBRIS INTO THE ENGINE AND DAMAGED THE CONDENSER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE RACK AND PINION AND REAR DIFFERENTIAL OF MY 2009 MURANO LE IS DEFECTIVE. THE RACK AND PINION HAS STOPPED WORKING TWICE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR THE THIRD TIME. THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL ON THE CAR HAS ALSO FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE STEERING PUMP HAS ALSO STOPPED WORKING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN APRIL 2008 AND HAS HAD DOCUMENTED STEERING PROBLEMS SINCE. THE DEALERSHIP (KOPPEL NISSAN) HAS GIVEN ME A HARD TIME AND NISSAN HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE ISSUE. THIS STEERING PROBLEM CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO STOP WORKING AND I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS WERE MY CHILDREN AND I HAVE BEEN ALMOST HIT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND THE FACT THAT THE RACK AND PINION ARE ON BACK ORDER MAY INDICATE THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MECHANICS TO SUBMIT A LEMON CLAIM TO THE STATE OF NY. I HAVE INQUIRED WITH BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURE WITH NO SUCCESS. I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THAT ALL WORKS WITH WHEELS AND TIRES HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED IN SERVICE. I HAVE REPORTED THIS FACT TOO, BUT WITHOUT EFFECT. BECAUSE ORIGINAL SURFACE OR ALU RIMS WAS SO EASY CHANGED COLOR (PERMANENTLY) I ASSUME THAT QUALITY OF MATERIALS USED TO PRODUCE THIS PART OF RIMS ARE VERY POOR AND IN EFFECT IT CAN BE REASON SOME INCIDENTS CONNECTED WITH BROKEN RIMS.
