TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 NISSAN QUEST GL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR FROM THE INTERIOR, THE FRONT PASSENGER INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE CAUSED LACERATIONS TO THE CONTACT'S FINGERS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL SHARP, FINE METAL SHAVINGS ON THE INNER PART OF THE HANDLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 134,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY WEAR AND TEAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.

DT*: THE CONTACT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE SLIDING DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IT RELEASED FROM THE TRACK AND THE BACK PORTION FELL TO THE GROUND. THE CONTACT MADE AN UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT TO REATTACH THE DOOR. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN ALERTED.

I HAVE A 2001 NISSAN QUEST, SINCE I RECEIVED THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER IN MARCH OF 2001,THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR KEPT JAMMING ANYWHERE FROM 1 TO 3 DAYS AT A TIME, AND WOULD UNLOCK AT TIMES WHILE I WAS DRIVING, THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR WINDOW WOULD POP OPEN WHEN YOU CLOSED THE DOOR. I FINALLY TOOK THE AUTO TO WESTBURY NISSAN ON 10/07/2002 REGARDING THIS PROBLEM WHILE I WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY,THEY CHARGED ME $23.70 FOR THE REPAIR OF THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WINDOW WHICH WORKED FOR ONLY TWO WEEKS AND I FINALLY TAPED THE LOCK SHUT. NOW THE DRIER SIDE SLIDING DOOR JAMMED AGAIN ON 9/14/03 AND THIS TIME THE OUTSIDE SLIDING DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF IN MY HAND. DEALER WANTS $300. TO REPAIR. *JB

THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE WOULD NOT COME FREE. I HAD TO JIGGLE OUT OF THE SEAT TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME THE PART WAS GOING TO COST ME $39 TO REPLACE NOT INCLUDING LABOR. I HAD TO PAY TO FIX SINCE MY WIFE COULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE SEATBELT WORKING CORRECTLY. IT STARTED TO LOCK UP ONCE IN A WHILE AND YOU JUST HAD TO BE SLOW WHEN UNBUCKLING THE SEATBELT. NOW IT WOULD NOT UNLOCK AT ALL. VEHICLE HAS BEEN GOOD OVER THE YEARS WITH ONLY ONE OTHER ISSUE THE DEALERSHIP CORRECTED THREE TIME BEFORE BEING HASSLE FREE. NO ONE COULD TELL ME WHY THE BUCKLE WOULD NOT OPEN JUST THAT I HAD TO PAY TO REPLACE. *TR

I WAS IN A LOW IMPACT WRECK--NO DAMAGE TO MY 2001 NISSAN QUEST VAN. MY 7 YEAR OLD SON WAS IN THE VERY BACK BENCH SEAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. WHEN I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES TO AVOID BEING HIT BY THE OTHER VEHICLE MY SON'S SEAT BELT RELEASED AND HE WENT FLYING INTO THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND THEN HIT THE SIDE DOOR. I WANT AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE FAILED IN A LOW IMPACT CRASH. I WILL BE TAKING IT TO A DEALERSHIP TO GET IT LOOKED AT. I PUT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT ON AND CAN NOT GET IT OFF, IT'S STUCK. I CAN NOT GET OUT OF MY SEAT BELT. IT WILL NOT UNBUCKLE. I HAD TO WIGGLE OUT OF IT TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. IF I WERE IN A WRECK I WOULD'VE DIED IN THAT SEAT BELT. I STILL CANNOT UNBUCKLE IT. I HAVE TO SLIP INTO THE SHOULDER PART TO EVEN DRIVE THE VEHICLE. MY AUTO MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE SPRING INSIDE THE LITTLE MECHANISM THAT HOLDS AND/OR RELEASES THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE. HE SAID HE WASN'T TOUCHING IT. HE SAID TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WILL DO THAT TOMORROW. BELOW, I AM ASKED TO LIST THE NUMBER OF FAILURES, I PUT ONE BUT IT IS ONGOING. MY MIDDLE DRIVERS SEAT BELT CLIP HAS BROKEN. ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO THE SLEEVE IT IS IN STARTED TO SLIP AND COME LOOSE. UNTIL IT FINALLY CAME OFF AND FEEL APART. I WENT TO THE DEALER, AT FIRST THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY THEN WHEN I TOLD HIM IT HAD A LIFETIME WARRANTY HE CHECKED ON IT AND SCHEDULED ME WITH A SERVICE APPOINTMENT IN A WEEK. WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE, I WAS TOLD THEY NEEDED TO ORDER A PART AND IT WOULD TAKE A WEEK OR SO. IT HAS NOW BEEN 16 DAYS AND I HAVE NOT BEEN TOLD THE PART IS IN. WHEN I CALLED THEY PUT ME TO PARTS, BUT NO ONE ANSWERED AFTER 5 MINUTES. I CALLED THEM BACK AND DID NOT GET ANY ANSWER FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 NISSAN QUEST. THE VEHICLE HAS TBC CLASSIC RADIO SR TIRES, SIZE 215-65R16 (NA). WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE TREAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND REPLACE THE TIRE. HE TOOK THE TIRE TO A TIRE SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 58,000.

IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS THE FOUR ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRES ON MY VEHICLE HAVE HAD TREAD SEPARATION. MY CAR IS APPROX 1.5 YEARS OLD AND 17000 MILES. I HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM OCCUR AS I TAKE A 200 MILE TRIP ON THE TURNPIKE. ON EACH OF THREE TRIPS A TIRE HAS GONE BAD, ON THE LAST TRIP TWO TIRES WENT BAD. THE FIRST TIRE I REPLACED ON MY OWN, THE SECOND TIRE I CONTACTED CONTINENTAL AND THEY SENT ME TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY FOUND THE TIRE DEFECTIVE (TREAD SEPARATION). I WAS OFFERED A PRO-RATA PRICE FOR THE TIRE. CURRENTLY I CONTACTED CONTINENTAL ONCE AGAIN AND THEY TOLD ME TO GO TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER TO CHECK THE TIRES. I FEEL THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED OCCURANCE AND HAVING THE FOUR TIRES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WITHIN THIS SHORT TIME FRAME IS UNUSUAL AND DANGEROUS. THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AUTOMATIC WINDOW STARTED MAKING A GRINDING NOISE, SLOWED AND EVENTUALLY STOPPED WORKING. I HAD TO PULL THE WINDOW UP WHILE WORKING THE BUTTON. THE SAME DAY THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW WAS MAKING THE SAME SOUNDS AND ALSO FAILED. I TOOK OFF THE INSIDE OF THE PASSENGER'S DOOR, I NOTICED THAT A PLASTIC PIECE HOLDING A METAL CABLE ON THE WINDOW REGULATOR HAD BROKEN IN HALF. WHEN I CHECKED THE DRIVER'S DOOR I SAW IT HAD BROKEN IN THE SAME SPOT. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO CATCH THE PROBLEM BEFORE BOTH MOTORS BURN OUT. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CABLE TO TANGLE AROUND THE REGULATOR'S WHEEL ASSEMBLY, IT KINKED AND FRAYED THE CABLE. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND PURCHASED BOTH ASSEMBLIES AT A VERY STEEP PRICE. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FLAW AND SHOULD ALSO BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY RECALL FOR THE MANUFACTURER. *NM

THE DRIVER'S SIDE AUTOMATIC WINDOW SLOWED AND EVENTUALLY STOPPED WORKING. BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE WE HAD TO LEAVE OUR VEHICLE IN A PUBLIC PARKING LOT AT ONE POINT WITH THE WINDOW FULLY OPEN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND INVITES THEFT AMONG OTHER THINGS. ONE MONTH LATER THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOW WAS MAKING THE SAME SOUNDS AND ALSO FAILED. WHEN I TOOK OFF THE INSIDE OF BOTH DOORS, THE EXACT SAME FAILURE HAD OCCURRED. A PLASTIC PIECE HOLDING A METAL CABLE ON THE WINDOW REGULATOR HAD BROKEN IN HALF IN THE SAME SPOT ON BOTH WINDOWS. THE DRIVER'S SIDE FAILURE WAS SO BAD THAT IT ALSO CAUSED THE WINDOW'S MOTOR TO BURN OUT. I CAUGHT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOW'S SYMPTOMS IN TIME BEFORE IT HAD A CHANCE TO DESTROY THAT MOTOR. THE FAILURE ON THAT SIDE CAUSED THE CABLE TO TANGLE AROUND THE REGULATOR'S WHEEL ASSEMBLY. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FLAW AND SHOULD ALSO BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY RECALL FOR THE MANUFACTURER. *NM

PASSENGER SIDE POWER WINDOW WHEN BROUGHT DOWN WOULD COME OFF IT'S TRACK AND STAY STUCK MIDWAY UP MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CLOSE WINDOW, THIS HAPPENDED TWICE ONCE UNDER WARRANTY. DEALER SOLUTION 1ST TIME WAS TO PLACE WINDOW BACK IN TRACK. THE 2ND TIME I WAS CHARGED TO PLACE WINDOW BACK IN TRACK AND I WAS MADE AWARE THAT THE WINDOW TRACK/GASKET HAD BECOME DAMGED AND WOULD NEED REPLACEMENT. AFTER I QUESTIONED THEM WHY THE TRACK WASN'T REPLACED WHEN IT FIRST HAPPEND AND WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY THEY GIVE ME A DISCOUNT ON REPLACEMENT WINDOW TRACK/ GASKET. INCIDENT DATES BELOW ARE APPROXIMATE, EXACT DATES WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE IF REQUESTED.

2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER 3.5L 4WD SE MODEL STARTED MISFIRING AT 89,000 MILES, WHICH THE JEFF WYLER NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN OHIO ADVISED ON REPLACING AN IGNITION COIL. CAR RAN OK FOR 2 WEEKS, THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND THIS TIME IT WAS A VALVE TIMING SENSOR. REPLACED THAT AND 2 WEEKS LATER MORE MISFIRING, AND THE SAME DEALER SAYS IT'S ANOTHER IGNITION COIL. A LITTLE RESEARCH SHOWS THERE ARE OVER 2500 PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ENGINE TYPE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES (MAXIMAS), AND OTHER CAR MANUFACTURERS NOT HAVING THIS ISSUE. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT AND NEEDS SERIOUS SCRUTINY OR LEGAL ACTION.

WE HAVE HAD REPEATED ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRICAL WINDOWS, VIDEO CASSETTE PLAYER, RADIO CONTROLS ON THE STEEING WHEEL, VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO GET OUT OF PARK, A RATTLING IN THE FRONT WHEEL AREA. A MONTH AGO, THE ELECTRON FUSE BLEW IN THE VEHICLE CAUSING THE VEHICLE NOT TO START, WHEN THE FUSE IS REPLACED IT BLOWS AGAIN. WE WERE TOLD THE MAIN WIRING HARNESS HAS GONE BAD - THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 34,000 MILES ON IT! WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WE COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT IT FROM GOING BAD - "IT JUST WENT BAD". THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INOPERABLE SINCE OCTOBER 5, 2004 - WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A NEW WIRING HARNESS, NISSAN SENT THE WRONG PART TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE. THE CORRECT PART WE ARE TOLD IS ON BACKORDER INDEFINATELY - NISSAN HAS NO IDEA WHEN THE PART WILL BECOME AVAILABLE. A SUPERVISOR FROM NISSAN HAS FAILED TO RETURN MY PHONE CALLS AND THEY WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS 38 MONTHS OLD (EVEN THOUGH IT ONLY HAS 34,000 MILES ON IT). HOW CAN A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD HAVE A PART, THAT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT RUN WITHOUT, BE ON BACKORDER INDEFINATELY? AND, HOW CAN A MAJOR WIRING PART GO BAD SO SOON AND NISSAN NOT BE LIABLE FOR IT? *AK

DEALERSHIP INSTALLED DRIVE BELTS AND PERFORMS SEVERAL RECALL SERVICES RELATED TO 03V455000 & 03V4777000. ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. BATTERY DISCHARGES OVERNIGHT SEVERAL TIMES. ERRATIC IDLE/STALLS OVER TIME. AUGUST 2004 CAR STALLS ON FREEWAY DRIVING 65 MPH. CAR TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP THAT REPORTS LOSS OF SPARK ON CYL 2, BUT FAILS TO FIND PROBLEM. MY 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER WAS PURCHASED 3 YEARS AGO. A BOSE 6-CD PLAYER CAME INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE. THE 6-CD PLAYER STOPPED WORKING, AND DISPLAYS AN ERROR MESSAGE, "ERR 2". MY VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THIS PROBLEM WAS ADDRESSED WITH THE NISSAN DEALER (SERVICE DEPARTMENT) IN BUENA PARK CALIFORNIA ON DECEMBER 21, AT 6:40PM. I WAS INFORMED THAT I COULD PURCHASE A NEW CD PLAYER, HOWEVER THIS WOULD BE QUITE COSTLY. THE NISSAN DEALER FURTHER STATED, WHEN A CUSTOMER WHOSE VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY HAS THIS SAME PROBLEM, THEY DO NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE CD PLAYER IS REPLACED WITH ANOTHER. NO REPAIR SHOP WILL LOOK AT MY SYSTEM. APPARENTLY, THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON WITH NISSANS. OTHER THAN PURCHASING A NEW CD PLAYER, THERE HAS TO BE SOME TYPE OF CONSUMER REPAIR SHOP. I AM ONE OF MANY WHO HAVE HAD THE OIL DIPSTICK BREAK OFF IN THEIR 2001 NISSAN SENTRA. I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE MINE USING SUPER GLUE AND A DOWEL ROD SAVING ME HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS. HOWEVER, ANYONE IS NOT AWARE OF THIS WILL HAVE TO DO WHAT NISSAN SUGGESTS AND THAT IS TO REQUIRE PEOPLE TO USE THEIR SERVICES FOR A DEFECTIVE PART OF NISSSAN'S DESIGN. I HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO OTHER PLASTIC FAILURES WHERE UNDER HIGH TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE (AN O-RING ON THE GROOVE IN THE PLASTIC) CAUSES PLASTIC TO BECOME BRITTLE.*AK

THE IMPACT SPUN HIS VEHICLE 180 DEGREES AND MINE ABOUT 25, FROM THE DIRECTION OF ORIGINAL TRAVEL. IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 1 SECOND FOR MY VEHICLE TO DECELERATE FROM 35 TO 0. THE IMPACT TO MY VEHICLE WAS FROM THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE ACROSS THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DAMAGE WAS ENOUGH TO PUSH THE RADIATOR BACK AT ABOUT A 35 DEGREE ANGLE FROM VERTICLE. I SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES AND THE OTHER PASSENGERS SUSTAINED NO TREATABLE INJURIES. IN MY OPINION THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED, BUT DIDN'T. THIS IS THE REASON FOR MY COMPLAINT.

MY VEHICLE WAS TOTALED, AND ALL OF THE DAMAGE WAS IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, WITH THE LIGHT POLE RESTING IN THE CENTER OF THE HOOD. EVERYONE AT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT STATED THAT THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE POLICE, FIRE DEPT., AND AMBULANCE WOULDN'T EVEN ATTEMPT TO GET ME OUT OF THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED FOR FEAR THAT THE BAGS WOULD DEPLOY IN ATTEMPT TO GET ME OUT. THE MAIN ENGINE SUPPORT FRAME MEMBER TO WHICH THE BOTTOM-FORWARD MOTOR MOUNT IS ATTACHED RUSTED COMPLETELY FREE WHERE IT ATTACHES AT THE AREA UNDER THE RADIATOR. THIS CAUSED THE ENTIRE ENGINE TO DROP. THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER DRIVABLE. REPAIR REQUIRES EXTENSIVE STRUCTURAL WORK. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM IN ADVANCE OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SERVICE REGULARLY. THE COMPROMISED AREA WAS NOT PREVIOUSLY VISIBLE AS IT IS CONCEALED BY A SPLASH GUARD. BUT BECAUSE THE STRAPS LOCK SO TIGHTLY I HESITATE TO USE THEM. RELATEDLY, ADULTS SITTING IN THAT ROW HAVE ALSO COMPLAINED THAT THE ADULT BELT LOCKS INTO A VERY TIGHT POSITION, REQUIRING THEM TO PULL ON THE STRAP SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL IT FINALLY LOOSENS A BIT, FOR A WHILE. MY DEALER SAYS NISSAN SERVICE CAN ONLY "CLEAN" THE SEAT BELTS, NOT LOOSEN OR REPLACE THEM. I DO PLAN TO TAKE THE CAR IN TO SHOW THEM THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY DIDN'T SOUND LIKE THEY'D BE ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. COMPLAINS. *AK
