The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle rolled forward, causing the vehicle to roll into a rock, and damaging the transmission. Additionally, the air bag warning lights illuminated, and the seat beats locked. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 180,000.

Purchased a used 2004 Nissan titan truck with lower miles. Rear axel exploded and burst into flames when driving down the freeway. (Bowling Green, Kentucky) We managed to pull off to the side of the freeway without hitting anyone. Fire dept was able to put the flames out. Didn't find any recalls about the Truck when we bought it. Now I have seen reports on line that this has happened to other consumers. Something needs to be done to warn consumers. We could have died. We could of hit others and killed them as well. Dealership has completed repairs and seen the defect. We have the damaged part. There were no prior warnings. Vehicle was inspected before the road trip to insure it was safe.

I WAS DIAGNOSING A METAL ON METAL SOUND COMING FROM MY 4 WHEEL DRIVE NISSAN TITAN AND FOUND THAT THE HALF SHAFT WAS COMING OUT OF THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL. I CALLED A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN UTAH AND WAS INFORMED THAT THIS WAS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH EARLY MODEL TITANS. THE TECH SAID HE HAD REPAIRED MANY TITANS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HE SAID IT WAS DUE TO A C CLIP THAT FAILS AND ALLOWS THE GEARS TO GET CHEWED UP IN THE DIFFERENTIAL. I LOOKED ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE HAD BEEN ANY RECALLS ON THIS AND FOUND THERE HAD NOT BEEN. I THEN CALLED NISSAN TITAN AND THEY INFORMED ME OF THE SAME AND GUIDED ME TO THIS WEBSITE. THIS SEEM LIKE A HUGE ISSUE THAT EITHER NOT BEEN REPORTED. THIS SEEMS LIKE IT WOULD LEAVE PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT THIS FOR SNOWY AREAS OR OFFROADING IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION WHEN THEIR 4 WHEEL DRIVE FAILS OR LOCKS UP. IN CERTAIN AREAS IN UTAH, WE ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE CHAINS OR 4 WHEEL DRIVE IN CERTAIN AREAS. WITH THE FAILURE OF A C CLIP AND THE GEARS GETTING CHEWED TO PIECES THIS SEEMS LIKE IT WOULD CAUSE HUGE SAFETY ISSUES, NOT TO MENTION COSTS TO CONSUMERS OVER A UNSOUND DESIGN.

WHILST DRIVING IN BAD WEATHER I HAD MY 4 WHEEL DRIVE ENGAGED. I WAS DRIVING 5 MILES AN HOUR ON A STRAIGHT GRAVEL ROAD, WHEN I STARTED HEARING A GRINDING NOISE. BEFORE I COULD GET STOPPED SAFELY TO SEE WHAT THE ISSUE WAS THERE WAS A LARGE THUD AND MY ENTIRE TRUCK SHOOK. IT WAS THEN POURING GEAR LUBRICANT OUT OF MY FRONT DIFFERENTIAL. AFTER TAKING THE TRUCK APART TO FIND THE DAMAGE I DISCOVERED THE AXLE SHAFT (NISSAN PART NO.: 38220-8S11A) HAD BEEN STRIPPED OF ITS SPLINES ON THE END. THE PART LOOKS AS IF IT WAS MACHINES PERFECTLY CYLINDRICAL. THE METAL SHAVINGS FROM THE SHAFT SLIGHTLY MARRED UP THE SEALS SO I REPLACED THE SEALS AND SHAFT, SPIDER GEARS SEEMED OKAY TO REUSE.

The B-LSD and ABS warning lights were illuminated. No air bags were deployed. The contact did not sustain any injury, and medical attention was not received. Two passengers in the other vehicle later sustained bodily injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicles involved in the collision were able to drive away from the scene. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the incorrect ABS module was installed and that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to the delta stroke sensor malfunctioning. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 226,000.

JUST LAST FRIDAY (03-15-2013) AFTERNOON,WHILE LOOKING OVER THE TRUCK- I DECIDED TO LOOK UNDERNEATH IT TO GIVE IT A ONCE OVER. THIS MAY LEAD TO A CRASH AND NISSAN CANNOT DIAGNOSE THIS WITH CERTAINTY SO INTERVENTION FROM NHTSA IS NEEDED. I HAVE LEARNED THAT THERE IS A POSSIBLE FAULTY DELTA COMPUTER SENSOR AND/OR BRAKE BOOSTER THAT NISSAN CANNOT PROBLEM SOLVE VERY WELL. THIS PROBLEM COULD OR HAS LED TO CRASHES WHEN YOU CANNOT APPLY THE BRAKES AT SPEED. IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING AND THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. THE SEAT BELT RETRACTORS IN THE REAR ARE DEFECTIVE. THEY DO NOT ALLOW FOR MOVEMENT, AND GET TIGHTER AND TIGHTER UNTIL YOU HAVE TO UNBUCKLE (DEFEATING THE PURPOSE OF A SEAT BELT) AND READJUST. SEE THE OTHER IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE FOR DETAILS. MY PROBLEM IS JUST AS THEY DESCRIBE. IN DEALING WITH THE NISSAN DEALER, THEY FIRST SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I was driving down a main road by my office, accelerating when the car suddenly stalled. As the truck was independently decelerating, the steering wheel became hard to steer due to the truck being "off". I managed to force it to turn to a shoulder so as to not get rear ended by vehicles behind me. I could've been on the highway with traffic speeds up to 70mph and it would've been a different scenario. I later found out that the 1/4 fuel on the gauge was faulty and I was out of gas. I went to the NHTSA website to find out 2005 model Titans were included in the recall but not my 2004.

I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IS ON THE END OF THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH AND HAS SOME SLIGHTLY RAISED RIDGES. I OWN A 2004 NISSAN TITAN WITH 3000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE INADVERTENTLY TURNED THE HEADLIGHTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT AT LEAST 10 TIMES IN THIS TIME FRAME. THE REASON FOR THIS IS A COMBINATION OF A LARGE TWIST KNOB AND A WEAK DETENT TO HOLD THE SWITCH IN THE ON POSITION. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED DEFECT IN MY SWITCH, RATHER A DESIGN DEFECT OF ALL TITAN SWITCHES AS I HAVE LOOKED AT OTHER NEW ONES ON THE NISSAN DEALER'S LOT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE ON-OFF TWIST KNOB IS LOCATED AT THE END OF THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH SO WHEN YOU EITHER TURN THE TURN SIGNAL ON OR FLIP THE SWITCH FORWARD OR BACK WITH YOUR FINGERS TO CHANGE THE LIGHTS FROM BRIGHT TO DIM THE SWITCH IS VERY EASY TO TURN OFF BY ACCIDENT. WHEN THIS HAPPENS ON A DARK ROAD IT IS VERY ALARMING AND I FEEL MAY EVENTUALLY LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE TWIST KNOB IS SO LARGE IN COMPARISON TO OTHER SWITCHES OF THIS TYPE THAT THERE IS TREMENDOUS LEVERAGE TO ACCIDENTLY TWIST IT IF YOU DONT GRAP IT EXACTLY IN THE CENTER. NISSAN HAS TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG AND I AM THE ONLY ONE BUT I DON'T BELIEVE IT. I HAVE A 2004 TITAN CREW CAB 4X4 WITH 61,000 MILES. APRIL OF 2009 I CHECKED MY AIR CONDITIONER AND FOUND IT NOT TO BE COOLING. I TOOK IT IN THE MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO INFORMED ME I HAD A LEAK IN THE HIGH PRESSURE AC HOSE. CHARGES FOR REPAIR $450.00. OK NO PROBLEM. IN THE FOLLOWING MONTH OF MAY AFTER RETURNING FROM A TRIP I FOUND OIL BELOW THE RIGHT AXEL. AGAIN I TOOK IT TO MY DEALERSHIP. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE HOSE FOR THE TRANSMISSION AND THE HIGH PRESSURE HOSE FOR THE POWER STEERING WAS BOTH LEAKING. THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE HOSE BRACKETS ON THAT MODEL WERE BAD AND THAT ALONG WITH NEW HOSES HE PUT ON THE NEW TYPE OF BRACKETS. HE DIDN'T SAY WHY THE HOSES LEAKED OTHER THAN "YOU KNOW THE TRUCK IS FIVE YEARS OLD." BY THE WAY THE COST FOR THAT REPAIR $859.00. SO IN THE SPAN OF 30 DAYS I HAVE SPENT OVER $1300.00 TO HAVE ALL OF THE HIGH PRESSURE HOSES REPLACED. The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH and descending a hill, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floor. The contact stated that she pumped the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to respond immediately. The contact then used the gear lever to shift to neutral(N) and then to park(P) and the vehicle stopped. The contact then turned the vehicle off. The contact stated that prior to the brake failure the instrument panel lights had started to flash on and off. The contact restarted the vehicle, and the brake functionality returned. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but had gradually become more frequent. The contact stated that the brake failure and instrument panel lights malfunction occurred three times in one day. The contact had been unable to schedule an appointment with a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,290.

EACH TIME THEY CANNOT FIND A PROBLEM. FINALLY AFTER THE LAST TIME THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS A BULLETIN ABOUT THE COMPUTER NEEDING AN UPDATE. WHICH COST MULTIPLE HUNDREDS TO INSTALL. THIS INSTALL DEFINITELY DECREASED THE INCIDENTS OF MULTIPLE BRAKE FAILINGS WHILE DRIVING, BUT DIDN'T COMPLETELY FIX THE PROBLEM. I'M JUST NOW LEARNING THAT IT'S A FAULTY DELTA STROKE SENSOR IN THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND IS A KNOWN PROBLEM TO NISSAN FOR THE TITAN AND ARMADA MODELS. I NEVER GOT THE POSTCARD ABOUT THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, BUT IT WOULDN'T HAVE HELPED SINCE THEY NEVER IDENTIFIED THE ISSUE OR MAYBE EVEN HID IT FROM ME DURING MY VISITS. BECAUSE OF THIS I'M OUT OF THE WINDOW FOR THE LAWSUIT AND AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. MY '04 STILL ONLY HAS 78,000 MILES AND MULTIPLE OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. NISSAN JUST HAD TO PAY 25 MILLION TO A FAMILY THAT WAS HIT BY ONE OF THESE AFFECTED VEHICLES, BUT STILL WILL NOT CLAIM THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE DELTA SENSOR AND BRAKE BOOSTER. PLEASE MAKE THEM FIX THIS ISSUE TO SAVE LIVES AND PAY FOR SOMETHING THEY KNOW HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR A VERY LONG TIME. THE BOOSTER CAN BE RESET AND THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY, BUT TO DO THIS YOU HAVE TO STOP THE CAR WITH THE BRAKES FLUTTERING AND NOT RESPONDING. THEN YOU SHUT OFF THE CAR FOR 10 SECONDS AND RESTART THE CAR. THIS USUALLY FIXES THE ISSUE, BUT IT CAN RETURN AT ANY TIME. USUALLY WHEN YOU'VE ALREADY BEEN DRIVING FOR AWHILE. STARTED BACK IN 2006, BUT GOT WORSE IN 2009. COMPUTER FIX LESSENED ISSUE, BUT STILL OCCURS AT RANDOM TIMES.

INCIDENT 1: I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT AND APPLIED THE BRAKE. I NOTICED THAT MY EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT, VDC OFF LIGHT, AND MY SLIP LIGHT WERE ALL ILLUMINATED. RECYCLING THE IGNITION SWITCH RETURNED THE BRAKES TO A SATISFACTORY CONDITION. AFTER MY WIFE DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME, I SCANNED THE ABS FOR FAULT CODES: C1179. I AM AN ASE CERTIFIED MASTER AUTOMOBILE TECHNICIAN WITH 28 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. THIS DEVICE MEASURES THE TRAVEL OF THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND IS A NECESSARY COMPONENT OF A VEHICLE WITH STABILITY CONTROL (NISSAN CALLS IT VEHICLE DYNAMIC CONTROL [VDC]). THIS VEHICLE HAS DONE THIS 4 TIMES IN THE TEN YEARS THAT I'VE OWNED IT. THE FREQUENCY OF FAILURE IS VERY RANDOM, DUPLICATION OF THE FAULT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND IT OCCURS WITHOUT ANY WARNING AT ALL.

I REPORTED THIS TO MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER AND IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD THAT AN UPGRADED REAR AXLE WAS INSTALLED TO ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PREMATURE SEAL FAILURE. AFTER A COUPLE OF TIMES THAT IT KEPT DOING THAT , I DECIDED TO TAKE TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE SENSOR LIGHT NEEDED TO BE RESTED AND THAT THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE SOLVE. A COUPLE AMONTHS LATER IT'S STARTED DRIVING IT AGAIN. IT WOULD MAYBE HAPPENS EVERY OTHER MONTH . I USED TO ALWAYS TAKE THE TRUCK TO GET MY OIL CHANGE AT THE NISSAN DEALER SHOP AND SINCE THE DOS COURTESY CHECK THEY TOLD ME THAT MY CV AXLES NEEDED SOME WORK DONE BECAUSE SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THEM. OF COURSE THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME A LOT, SO I HAD TO SAY NO. NOW I HAVE A TRUCK THAT NEEDS TO HAVE WORK DONE AND VERY EXPENSIVE. NOW I CAN SEE OIL LEAKAGE AT THE WHEEL BEARING. MY TRUCK DID NOT PASSED INSPECTION THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF THAT PROBLEM, SO REGISTER MY TRUCK AT ANOTHER CITY AND IT PASSED CUZ THEY WERE NOT CHECKING THOSE THINGS. I HAVE HEARD AND READ COUPLE OF THE SAME ISSUES THAT PEOPLE ARE HAVING WITH THE BACK CV AXLE SEALS AND BEARINGS. WHY WOULD I BE SPENDING MONEY ON SOMETHING THAT I WOULD LEAST EXPECTED. PROBLEM STARTED GRADUALLY AS OCCASIONAL NOISES, SUCH AS "CLUNKING" AND RATTLING, FROM THE WHEELS WHILE DRIVING. TOOK VEHICLE IN TO DEALER WHO COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. ONE DAY LATER WHILE DRIVING, HEARD AWFUL GRATING NOISE FROM WHEELS AND ABS/VDC LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PAD BROKE LOOSE AND DESTROYED THE ROTOR, THE ABS SENSOR, ETC. ($1,200 IN DAMAGE). DURING THE TWO WEEKS AFTER SERVICE, THE BRAKE LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED ABOUT 3 OR 4 TIMES. WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON, THE BRAKES REACT AS IF IN ABS MODE AND GRIP AND GRIND WHILE STOPPING. TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE USUALLY MAKES THE LIGHT GO OFF AND THE BRAKES THEN OPERATE NORMALLY. I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN TITAN AND HAVE HAD IT FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS. THERE IS 51000 MILES ON IT AND AROUND 22,000 MILES I PUT A LIFT ON IT. EVERYTHING WAS FINE WITH THE TRUCK UNTIL I GOT AROUND THE 35,000 MILE RANGE. WHEN I WOULD DRIVE THE TRUCK I WOULD NOTICE LOUD NOISES COMING FROM THE FRONT END. I TOOK IT TO MY NISSAN DEALERSHIP 2 OR 3 TIMES AND THEY SAID THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND THAT IT WAS JUST MY SUSPENSION THAT WAS MAKING THE NOISE. POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK UNDER RIGHT (PASSENGER-SIDE) AXLE-TO-WHEEL AREA. ALSO, A FRONT-END ALIGNMENT PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD TO TAKE MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN LE 4X4 CREW CAB INTO THE DEALER SERVICE SHOP ON AT LEAST 3 OCCASIONS TO TRY AND GET THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK REPAIRED/STOPPED. THE LAST TIME IT WAS IN THE THEIR SHOP THEY HAD MY TRUCK FOR OVER A MONTH WAITING ON A NEW POWER STEERING HOSE PART THAT APPARENTLY WAS IN SHORT SUPPLY. THE LEAK HAS NOW STARTED AGAIN AND I'M GOING TO HAVE TO TAKE THE TRUCK IN AGAIN... ADDITIONALLY, EVER SINCE THE TRUCK WAS BRAND NEW, I HAVE ASKED THE SHOP TO FIX THE ALIGNMENT 4 TIMES AND IT'S STILL NOT RIGHT. MY WIFE AND I WERE TEST DRIVING A NEW NISSAN 2004 TITAN 4 DOOR PICK UP AT NISSAN OF STATESVILLE, NC. WE BOTH DROVE THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED WHAT WE CONSIDERED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF PLAY IN THE STERING WHEEL. THE SALESPERSON, WHO WAS RIDING IN THE BACK SEAT, SAID THAT WAS NORMAL. UPON MAKING THE FINAL TURN FROM US HIGHWAY 70 INTO THE DEALERS LOT A POP WAS HEARD AND ALL LOSS OF STERING OCURRED. THE STEARING WHEEL WAS FREE WHEELING WITH NO DIRECTIONAL CONTROL WHATSOEVER. THE FRONT BRAKES ON MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY AT 8100 MILES IN JAN '05. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ONLY RESURFACED THE ROTORS AND PUT ON NEW PADS. AGAIN IN APR '05 IT STARTED SHAKING CAUSING ME TO ALMOST LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER THE NEW BRAKES FROM NISSAN SINCE THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALLOWING DEALERS TO STOCK THE PARTS. I WENT IN TO GET A TRUCK ON JULY 11TH... THEY HAD TO GET THE TRUCK STARTED BY JUMPING THE BATTERY THAT THEY SAID WOULD BE REPLACED. WHILE RUSHING US WITHOUT OFFERING A TEST DRIVE INSURRING THE TRUCK WAS SOUND AND MECHANICALLY STABLE. WE THEN DROVE OFF IN THE 2004 NISSAN TITAN AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON SHORTLY AFTER. VRD ABS AND BRAKE AS WELL AS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE BRAKES THEN WENT OUT ON US AS WE REACHED OUT HOME. THE NEXT DAY WE INFORMED THEM OF WHAT HAPPENED, THEY SAID IT WAS JUST WATER ON THE BRAKES TO GIVE IT A DAY AND SEE WHAT IT DOES. IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND WHEN WE TOOK IT BACK THEY SAID THE MECHANIC WAS GONE TO COME BACK. THATS WHEN WE NOTICED THE CARA REGISTRATION WAS FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE AND STARTED TO WONDER IF THEY HAD TAKEN THE CAR TO EMMISIONS AT ALL. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS OM SINCE WE LEFT THE LOT. BEFORE OUR FIRST PAYMENT I SPENT $900 ON PARTS HAD ROADSIDE CALLED 4 TIMES AND REPLACED THE BATTERY. THE TRUCK DIDNT LAST TO THE FIRST PAYMENT. COMPLETELY LOST ALL BRAKING POWER. THIS TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC THAT TOLD US IT WOULD NOT HAVE PASSED EMISSIONS WHEN WE GOT IT BECAUSE THE HISTORY ON THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SHOWED IT WAS ONLY CLEARED AND NOT ADDRESSED.

I HAVE SAME PROBLEM AS EVERYONE ELSE WITH CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLDS STARTING AROUND 65000 MILES. EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE SO I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO LISTEN TO A HORRIBLE EXHAUST LEAKS. NEXT IS THE REAR AXLE SEALS FIRST AROUND 65000.REPLACED 2X. AFTER TALKING TO NISSAN TECH WHO IS A FRIEND APPARENTLY ITS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. THE AXLE TUBES TEND TO WARP CAUSING A LEAK ALL OVER TIRES N BRAKES AND EVENTUAL FAILURE OF GEARS INREAR PUMPKIN IF NOT CAUGHT. JUST WAITING FOR IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN. BRAKES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A PROBLEM. ON 6/20/2008 I WENT TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO RESOLVE A RECALL ITEM TO REPLACE REAR DOOR WIRING HARNESS, RECALL # R0616. THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED AND IN THE PROCESS THE DEALERSHIP ALSO REPLACED LH-PRETENSIONER, SEATBELT AND BODY HARNESS, AND RESET AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT. ON 6/03/2013, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND I WENT TO A NEARBY NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE LH-PRETENSIONER, SEATBELT AND BODY HARNESS, I INFORMED THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THIS WORK WAS ALREADY ACCOMPLISHED ONCE AND THAT I HAD THE DOCUMENTS IF HE NEEDED THEM. THE SERVICE ADVISOR THEN STATED THAT SINCE THE WORK WAS ACCOMPLISHED FIVE YEARS AGO THAT EVEN THOUGH THE PARTS ARE A SAFETY ITEM THAT THEY WERE NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, RESULTING IN A 574.30 CHARGE OF WHICH I PAID. MY VEHICLE IS HAVING ALL OF THE PROBLEMS LISTED SO AS INSTRUCTED I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP ALONG WITH THE LETTER. ON MAY 3, 2012, I SAW MY SIDE MIRROR LIGHTS WERE NOT TURNING OFF, EVEN WHILE DRIVING. I SCHEDULED WORK FOR MY TRUCK FOR MAY 5, 2012. MY TRUCK WAS PARKED AT MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT FROM AROUND 6 AM TO 2 PM ON MAY 3, 2012. I LIVE IN THE COLD NORTHEAST AND HAVE TO WARM MY VEHICLE BEFORE I DRIVE TO WORK. MY TRUCK IS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN SE WITH 79K MILES ON IT. I BRUSHED THE VEHICLE OFF AND STARTED IT TURNING THE DEFROSTER TO HIGH AND TURNING ON THE SIDE MIRROR DEFROSTERS AS WELL. I WENT BACK INSIDE TO GRAB THE REST OF MY STUFF FOR WORK AND WAS INSIDE FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES. WHEN I CAME BACK OUTSIDE I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE THE DRIVERS SIDE OF MY TRUCK ON FIRE. FIRE ENGULFED THE DRIVERS SIDE MIRROR AND THE DRIPPING PLASTIC WAS BURNING UP THE SIDE OF THE TRUCK. I RETURNED INSIDE AND GRABBED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE FIRE OUT. LUCKILY MY VEHICLE WAS FAR ENOUGH AWAY FROM THE GARAGE AS TO NOT BE A CONCERN AS TO BURNING DOWN MY HOUSE. I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THAT THE MIRROR DEFROST SWITCH WAS STILL ACTIVE AND HAD NOT TRIPPED ANY FUSES. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE SWITCH TO THE OFF POSITION AND THE LIGHT WENT OUT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 65 MPH. I WAS GOING THAT SPEED WHEN, WHAT I THOUGHT WAS MY DRIVE SHAFT, BASICALLY EXPLODED AND FELL APART WHILST I WAS IN MOTION. I HAVE KEPT UP ONE ALL MANDATORY AND BASIC MAINTENANCE WORK AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT BEFORE. PARTS FLEW OUT FROM ALL AROUND MY TRUCK AND IT SLAMMED INTO A COMPLETE STOP AS IF I HAD MADE IMPACT INTO SOMETHING. PASSING VEHICLES HAD TO STAY CLEAR OF THE DEBRIS AN I HAD TO PUSH MY TRUCK INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. HIGHWAY PATROL ASKED IF I WAS ALRIGHT AND I STATED TO HAVE ALREADY HAD A TOW TRUCK ON ITS WAY. WHEN MY TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE SHOP THEY SAID THE REAR END ACTUALLY GAVE WAY AND BROKE, INCLUDING THE DRIVE SHAFT WHICH SNAPPED INTO TWO PIECES, ONE OF WHICH WAS LAUNCHED INTO TRAFFIC. LUCKILY NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE DAMAGED NOR PEOPLE HURT. THE MECHANICS SAID THEY'VE BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR 57 YEARS AND I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE COME OUT OF THAT THE WAY I DID, BECAUSE IN MOST CASES THE TRUCK WOULD HAVE FLIPPED AND ROLLED. THE DAMAGES WERE EXTENSIVE AND EXTREME FOR SOMETHING I HAD NO CONTROL OVER. THE SHOP INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WAY I WAS DRIVING IT OR ANYTHING I COULD HAVE DONE, AND THEY FOUND IT "WEIRD" THAT IT HAPPENED THE WAY IT DID. BRAKES FEEL LIKE THE ABS HAS ENGAGED AND THE FOLLOWING WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH COME ON; BRAKE, VDC OFF, SLIP, AND SERVICE ENGINE. THIS STARTED HAPPENING SOON AFTER I PURCHASED THE TRUCK NEW. DEALER RAN DIAGNOSTICS BUT COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED WELL OVER 20 TIMES WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND DRIVING AT HIGH AND LOW SPEEDS. ONCE THIS HAPPENS THE BRAKES FEEL MUSHY AND MAKE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. THE ONLY FIX IS TO STOP THE TRUCK, PUT IT IN PARK AND STOP AND RESTART THE ENGINE. THIS IS DANGEROUS WHEN IT HAPPENS ON THE FREEWAY. THE OCCURRENCE OF THIS PROBLEM IS VERY INTERMITTENT. LAST OCCURRENCE WAS ON JULY 25TH AND BEFORE THAT JULY 18TH. IT MAY GO A MONTH OR SO BEFORE HAPPENING AGAIN. TWO OTHER EMPLOYEES AT MY COMPANY ALSO HAVE 2004 TITANS AND HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THANKFULLY I WAS NOT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN THE REAR END FAILED. My Titan is a 4 door not 2, also I am not sure if these recalls I saw are related to the problems I am having but my light indicator (as in the pictures I provided) has come on twice I immediately turn it off and I wait for the engine to cool it gets really hot but it doesn't indicate any over heating on the dash indicators (it might just be me but it seems hot enough to be overheating) and once cooled i check the fluids and refill the oil as needed (coolant level been fine) but this has happened to me now 2 times in a 3 day period so I believe there is a leak. Also about my shifter I'm not sure if this applies but I have the shifter you can switch to manual (I've never switch to manual bc I don't know how to drive manual) but I have an issue with it just in automatic sometimes when I shift from park to drive it doesn't seem to switch from park to drive and the vehicle stays in the parked position while the shift is in drive and I have to shift back to park wait a second and then shift back into drive a second time before I get the truck into driving mode. I added some pictures of recalls that are for my year make and model truck that seem like the same issues I'm dealing with and wasn't sure if they applied to my vehicle and just got missed with the amount of owners it's had

I purchased this truck on 04/05/18 from Harbor motors Lihue Kauai, and not even a week into having this truck it started acting up, overheating, the truck wouldn't turn over, suspensions, the four-wheel-drive wouldn't disengage, when you turn the key to start the vehicle it would make a clicking noise before starting, the AC would work when it wanted to, and the transmission and engine started knocking. The next week I went running errands and when I pulled out of my yard the truck started jerking then pressed the gas and it revved really high before slamming into drive. Since then I haven't driven the truck. And today it looks like someone just smashed into the front driver light to the side and smashed it while being parked at the place I purchased the truck from. I've continuously asked for help with little to no help at all. The truck is no longer drivable and I'm still making payments on it. TWO DAYS AGO MY HUSBAND WAS GETTING IN THE TRUCK AND ALL OF A SUDDEN SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM THE DASH BOARD AND A FIRE WAS STARTING. HE IMMEDIATELY RAN IN THE TRUCK STOP STORE AND WAS ABLE TO GET A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. ANOTHER CUSTOMER UNHOOKED THE BATTERY AS MY HUSBAND DISTINGUISHED THE FIRE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE BRAKE LIGHT SENSOR ILLUMINATED AND UPON PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL IT SANK TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY FORCE TO ENSURE THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE WHICH RESET THE COMPUTER AND THE SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR WAS MAKING THE LOUD NOISE BUT IT WAS UNCLEAR IF IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE MOMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V072000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. WHEN TRYING TO BACKUP THE TRUCK THE COLUMN GEAR SHIFTER MOVED INTO REVERSE BUT THE VEHICLE WAS STILL MOVING FORWARD. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN OVER SEVERAL MONTHS THAT MY DRIVER SIDE DRIVE AXLE FOR MY 4X4 HAS PULLED ITS SELF OUT. IMAGINE DRIVING DOWN A MOUNTAINOUS ROAD IN IDAHO STATE. YOU ARE GOING DOWN A HILL IN A PICK-UP TRUCK PULLING A CAMPER. ALL OF A SUDDEN YOUR VEHICLE GOES INTO LIMP MODE - IT WON'T REV OVER 1000 RPM. YOU LOOK TO PULL OVER BUT THERE IS ONLY A SMALL SHOULDER. VEHICLES ARE SKIDDING TRYING TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AS YOUR VEHICLE IS DISABLED AND ONLY PARTIALLY OFF THE ROAD. AFTER FIXING THE PROBLEM, I REALIZED THE TRUCK SHOULD NEVER HAVE GONE INTO LIMP MODE. IT IS A CRITICAL DESIGN FLAW WITH THE VEHICLE. I WAS PUT IN HARMS WAY FOR NO REASON. ALL VEHICLES USE TO HAVE THE ENGINE SPEED CONTROLLED VIA MECHANICAL LINKAGE OR CABLES FOR THE GAS PEDAL. VERY FEW FAILURES EXISTED WITH THIS DESIGN. TODAY GAS PEDAL RUN BY A WIRE THAT SENDS AN ELECTRONIC SIGNAL TO THE VEHICLES COMPUTER. THE COMPUTER IN TURN EVALUATES THE GAS PEDAL POSITION WHICH THEN SENDS A SIGNAL TO THE FUEL INJECTORS AND THROTTLE BODY TO CONTROL THE ENGINE. THE CRITICAL DESIGN FLAW COMES INTO PLAY WHEN VEHICLE DESIGNERS COMBINE OTHER ELECTRONIC SENSORS ON THE SAME CIRCUIT AS THE GAS PEDAL. NON-CRITICAL COMPONENTS LIKE GAS EVAPORATOR SENSORS, POWER STEERING SENSORS, AIR CONDITIONER SENSORS. WHEN ANY OF THESE NON-CRITICAL ITEMS EXPERIENCE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT, THE VEHICLE GOES INTO LIMP MODE POTENTIALLY PUTTING DRIVERS IN HARM'S WAY DOES THIS RECOMMENDED SOLUTION FIX ALL PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE GAS PEDAL? DURING ROUTINE RECALL FOR ECM MODULE THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT BOTH EXHAUST MANIFOLDS ARE CRACKED AS THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE CAUSING EXHAUST FUMES TO ENTER THE CABIN AND ALSO CAUSE POOR PERFORMANCE WITH THE VEHICLE. DEALER QUOTED THIS AS A $3200.00 REPAIR AND WILL NOT ASSUME ANY PORTION OF THE REPAIR. DEALER "BEAVERTON NISSAN" HAS INFORMED ME THAT THIS ISSUE IS DUE TO THE POOR QUALITY OF THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS ANY POSSIBLE FAULTY WELDS ON THE PRODUCT COMBINED WITH MATERIAL THAT IS TOO THIN TO START WITH. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TURNED ON AND OFF IN ORDER FOR THE BRAKES TO WORK PROPERLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VDC UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000. I WAS TRAVELING TOWING A 33 FT CAMPER. USUALLY TOW AT ABOUT 62 MPH. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRUCK CUTS OUT THEN TURNS BACK ON AND "BUCKS". MY LIGHTS ON MY DASH LIGHT UP LIKE A COLOR BLINKING CHRISTMAS TREE. MY SPEEDOMETER GOES ALL THE WAY TO 140 MPH, MY RPMS MAX OUT, MY FUEL GAUGE GOES UP AND DOWN ALONG WITH THE TEMP GAUGE. FURTHERMORE ALL THE GAUGES AND WARNING LIGHTS FLASH OR MOVE IN NO FORM OR FASHION. STEERING GETS STIFF ALONG WITH THE BRAKES BECAUSE THE TRUCK SHUTS OFF. I CONTROLLED THE TRUCK TO AVOID CRASHING IN BETWEEN THE ON AND OFF PERIODS. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. THOUGHT IT WAS WIRING FROM CAMPER OR BRAKE CONTROLLER. HOWEVER, OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS FROM ABOUT MID SEPT IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. NOW I CAN'T GO OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY BEFORE THE TRUCK STARTS ACTING UP. THERE IS A BAD ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. IN MY PAST EXPERIENCE WITH NISSAN IS THEY ARE RELUCTANT TO SAY ANYTHING IS WRONG AND TO FIX THINGS. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH GO WRONG WITH MY TRUCK FROM BRAKES, ELECTRICAL, AND REAR END UNIT. JUST LAST WEEKEND 20 OCT 12 I TOOK THE TRUCK ON ABOUT A 15 MILE ROUND TRIP AND IT ACTED UP AGAIN. BETWEEN JULY AND SEPT 2012 THE TRUCK WOULD START THE SHUT COMPLETELY OFF IN PARKED POSITION. IT STILL DOES THAT NOW TOO. THE TRUCK IS NOW PARKED UNTIL I FIGURE WHAT IS THE PROBLEM. AFTER PAYING HEFTY BILL SHOP MANAGER SAID THIS WAS THE 5TH TITAN IN OUR SMALL TOWN HE HAD SAME ISSUE WITH AND THAT HE AGREES THIS IS THE WORST PLACE FOR A UNIT ON A TRUCK AND MANUFACTURER SHOULD OF PUT OTHER LOCATION. NUMEROUS PROBLEMS HAVE ARISEN WITH MY LEASED 2004 NISSAN TITAN KING CAB. HORRIBLE FM RADIO RECEPTION. STATIC,TREBLE FADES THE AUTOMATIC FEATURE ON THE POWER WINDOWS DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. WHEN WINDOWS ARE ALL THE WAY DOWN AND YOU HIT THE AUTO UP BUTTON, THE WINDOW TRIES TO GO UP AND THEN GOES BACK DOWN. IT THEN WILL NOT WORK FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON AFTER EXTENDED DRIVING.
