The vehicle was not repaired, and the contact was referred to a dealer and to the NHTSA Hotline for further assistance. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 146,000.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Versa. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver's and passenger's side air bag warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the driver's side air bag. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22E066000 (Air Bags), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 299,000.

Indicator light appeared week of March 19, 2023. Took vehicle to the dealership March 24, 2023, and after a $225 diagnostic was told, “90626 FOUND DTC B1054. CUSTOMER NEEDS AIRBAG AND THE MODULE” (from invoice). Parts need to be ordered and will cost ~$1,000 less the diagnostic. Concerned about how a safety feature no longer functioning properly and needing replacement is the responsibility of the customer for an amount of this size.

There is a safety recall campaign for the front coil springs breaking for all Nissan Versas registered in "salt states" The car is registered in a "salt state" and the the front coil has snapped. For a reason that neither corporate Nissan nor the local Nissan service center can explain, this car is excluded from repair.

MY SPRING BROKE WHILE PULLING INTO A TIRE SHOP AND WENT FLYING ACROSS A PARKING LOT, LEAVING PART OF THE BROKEN SPRING STUCK IN THE CRADLE.

REPLACING THE EXHAUST THE REAR SPRINGS WERE BROKEN TO THE POINT THE INSULATORS FELL OUT . THE SPRINGS ON BOTH THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WERE BREAKING. THERE WASN'T ANY SIGNIFICANT RUST ON THE SPRINGS THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FRONT WHICH WAS DONE. THE INSULATORS MISSING MAKES A METAL TO METAL CONTACT WHICH WOULD MAKE IT WEAR OUT FASTER AND MORE PRONE TO RUST. WHY ARE THE SPRINGS BREAKING?

APPEARS THE INCOMING MUFFLER PIPE "DISCONNECTED" FROM THE GASKET WITH A FAIRLY CLEAN BREAK. THIS HAPPENED ON THE SIDE OF THE MUFFLER CLOSER TO THE ENGINE AND FURTHEST AWAY FROM THE BACK OF THE HATCHBACK. CAUSING LOUD NOISE, SEEMS TO BE WORSE WHEN IDLED AT A STOP LIGHT/SIGN. TRYING TO FIND OUT IF RECALL ON 2009 NISSAN VERSA. NOTICED CAR ENGINE SEEMED LOUDER THAN USUAL. MECHANIC FOUND 'MUFFLER NECK' (BRACKET WHERE PIPE FROM ENGINE GOES INTO MUFFLER) WAS RUSTED WITH A HOLE, HAD TO GET NEW MUFFLER AND GASKET ETC., $389.26 FOR PARTS/LABOR/TAX. MECHANIC SHOWED ME THE MUFFLER SYSTEM THAT HE REMOVED. REST OF MUFFLER/PIPE SYSTEM WAS NOT RUSTED, SO I'M SUSPECTING A DESIGN PROBLEM WHERE WATER IS SOMEHOW ACCUMULATING IN THAT ONE AREA TO RUST JUST THAT SPOT, BUT REQUIRING THE WHOLE SYSTEM THEN BE REPLACED. THE TPMS "TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM" THE VALVE STEMS ON ALL FOUR TIRES WAS EITHER CRACKED AND / OR DEFECTIVE, TWO WERE LEAKING AIR SO BADLY I HAD TO FILL THEM BACK UP WITH AIR EVERY DAY> I THOUGHT I HAD DRIVEN OVER SOME NAILS THAT MADE THEM LEAK AIR. WHEN I WENT TO GET THEM CHECKED, I WAS SHOCKED TO FIND OUT IT WAS THE VALVE STEMS THAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I HAD TO REPLACE THEM WITH RUBBER VALVE STEMS. REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKE FOR SIMILAR REASONS THAT THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS BREAK. (FRONT COIL SPRINGS ARE CURRENTLY UNDER RECALL). REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKE CAUSING A FLAT TIRE. REAR COIL SPRINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TO SAFELY DRIVE THE VEHICLE; AND THE FLAT TIRE NEEDED REPLACED. REAR COIL SPRINGS WERE NOT PROPERLY MANUFACTURED AND COATED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, ON A TOWNSHIP ROAD.

I LIVE IN THE KANSAS CITY METRO, ON THE KANSAS SIDE, LESS THAN 10 MINUTES FROM THE BORDER TO MISSOURI. THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL THAT APPLIES TO THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS OF NISSAN VERSAS (NHTSA RECALL 17V-637) BECAUSE THE SPRINGS HAVE INSUFFICIENT CORROSION COATING. THIS CURRENT RECALL APPLIES TO MISSOURI BUT NOT KANSAS. I DRIVE MY CAR IN MISSOURI ALL THE TIME BECAUSE OF MY PROXIMITY TO MISSOURI AND MY HUSBAND IS EMPLOYED IN MISSOURI. MY FRONT, RIGHT COIL SPRING BROKE ON MARCH 17, 2018. THE COIL SPRING BROKE WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT AT MY APARTMENT IN A LOT THAT IS RELATIVELY NEW AND FLAT, MEANING NO POT HOLES. A LOUD BANG WAS HEARD AND WHEN MOVING THERE WAS A LOUD CREAKING SOUND. AFTER PULLING OUT ABOUT 3 FEET I PULLED BACK IN AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I FOUND A ROUND METAL OBJECT ON THE GROUND NEAR THE FRONT WITH RUST ON IT. IT WAS FLAT ON ONE END AND BROKEN ON THE OTHER. AFTER INSPECTING THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE'S WHEEL WELL I DISCOVERED THAT THE REMAINING PART OF THE COIL SPRING HAD SLIPPED OFF THE STRUT LIP AND PART OF THE COIL WAS PRESSING HARD AGAINST THE TIRE. THE APPEARANCE OF THE COIL SPRING STILL ON THE CAR MATCHED THE ONE I HAD FOUND. A MECHANIC AND TOW TRUCK OPERATOR VERIFIED IT WAS IN FACT THE COIL SPRING THAT HAD BROKEN. MY CAR IS UNDER 100,000 MILES AND FAILED INSPECTION DUE TO SUB FRAME BUSHING MISSING. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THESE PARTS USUALLY LAST FOR UP TO 200,000 MILES. HE ALSO TOLD ME MY TIRE COULD'VE COME RIGHT OFF THE CAR WITH THIS PART MISSING. THIS COULD'VE CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT OR FATALITY! CAN YOU PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. FOR MANY YEARS*, THE EXHAUST FROM MY NISSAN VERSA HAS MADE ME SICK (NAUSEOUS AND HEADACHES) SIMILAR TO HOW VW EXHAUST WOULD MAKE ME SICK. I AM CONCERNED THAT NISSAN VEHICLES MAY BE CHEATING ON INSPECTIONS CHECKS LIKE VW WAS DOING. EXHAUST FROM MANY OTHER VEHICLES MAY SMELL, BUT THIS PARTICULAR EXHAUST IS SICKENING. OUR VEHICLE PASSES EMISSION STANDARDS FOR MD EACH YEAR AND WE ALWAYS KEEP IT WELL MAINTAINED. SO AGAIN, I AM CONCERNED THEY HAVE SOFTWARE THAT WORKS TO FOOL EMISSIONS TESTING BY CHANGING THE EXHAUST ALLOWED WHEN HOOKED UP TO AN EMISSIONS TESTING COMPUTER. FOR A POINT OF REFERENCE, MY PARENTS OWN A 23 YEAR OLD FORD EXPLORER (ALSO WELL MAINTAINED) WHOSE EXHAUST DOES NOT CAUSE ME SICKNESS. ENGINE COMPLETELY STALLED FOUR SEPARATE TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. WITHOUT WARNING, TOTALLY LOST POWER AND HAD TO COAST TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. AT FIRST, ENGINE WOULD RESTART, COUGH AND SPUTTER, THEN DIE. AFTER ABOUT TEN MINUTES, HOWEVER, IT RESTARTED LIKE NORMAL AND IT WAS LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. DROVE FINE FOR MONTHS UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN. AND AGAIN. AND AGAIN. THIS STARTED OCCURRING WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 85,000 MILES. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AFTER LAST INCIDENT (ABOUT 95,000 MILES) AND THEY SAID THEY RAN COMPLETE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS, BUT COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. ADVISED ME TO HAVE VEHICLE BROUGHT IN NEXT TIME IT STALLS (BUT THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE TRANSITORY). I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY AND CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY I DIDN'T GET REAR-ENDED.

EXHAUST BECAME VERY LOUD, RATTLING, ETC. VERIFIED THAT THE FLANGE ON THE MUFFLER HAD RUSTED OFF AT THE WELDS. MUFFLER HANGERS HELD THE MUFFLER IN PLACE. NOT ABLE TO COMMENT AS TO WHETHER OR NOT ANY DRIVERS OR PASSENGERS SUFFERED FROM C02 RELATED HEALTH OR BREATHING ISSUES.

THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME OF A BROKEN MID PIPE ON THE MUFFLER. I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND FOUND THAT MANY PEOPLE WERE TOLD THAT IT IS RELATED TO SALT ON THE ROADS. THE ISSUE APPEARS TO BE PERSISTENT ACROSS NISSAN VERSAS IN THE LATE 2000 MODELS (ESPECIALLY 2009). THERE IS A LOUD ROARING NOISE FROM THE MUFFLER AND A STRONG GASEOUS SMELL INSIDE WHEN THE ENGINE IS ON AND NO OTHER HEATING/COOLING FUNCTIONS ARE TURNED ON.

VEHICLE EXPERIENCES KNOCKING IN THE STEERING COLUMN AT LOW SPEEDS/STATIONARY WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL CLOCKWISE AND COUNTER CLOCKWISE. THIS KNOCKING SYMPTOM IS AMPLIFIED WHEN VEHICLE TRAVELS OVER UNEVEN SURFACE AT ANY SPEED. WHEN BRAKING AT SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL SHIFTS VIOLENTLY IN OPERATORS HANDS. ROTORS AND PADS AS WELL AS STRUT ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED IN AN ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. SYMPTOMS CONTINUED AFTER THESE REPLACEMENTS. TIE ROD ENDS AND SWING BARS WERE LATER REPLACED WITH NO POSITIVE RESULTS. THIS LEAVE THE ASSUMPTION THAT THE ISSUE IS RELATED TO THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. POSSIBLE DEFECT IN THE RACK AND PINION STEERING UNIT.

RECENTLY, I SUBMITTED A SAFETY COMPLAINT HERE ABOUT A BROKEN COIL SPRING. AT ABOUT 39K MY RIGHT SPRING WENT AND WAS REPLACED BY A GENUINE NISSAN REPLACEMENT COIL SPRING. AT ABOUT 61K, MY LEFT SPRING BROKE. I ORDERED A REPLACEMENT FROM NISSAN AND WAS GOING TO REPLACE IT. UNFORTUNATELY, I NOTICED THAT THE ALREADY BROKEN SPRING HAD SNAPPED SOME MORE AND THE NEWLY REPLACED SPRING HAD SNAPPED AS WELL WHEN THE CAR WAS SIMPLY SITTING ON MY DRIVEWAY! RECENTLY I NOTICED A PIECE OF METAL NEAR MY MAILBOX. LOOKING AT IT I QUICKLY REALIZED IT WAS PROBABLY A PIECE OF MY NISSAN VERSA HATCHBACKS LEFT COIL SPRING. SURE ENOUGH, THE BREAKAGE MATCHED WHAT WAS ON MY CAR. WHY DID I SO QUICKLY GUESS THAT IT WAS FROM MY CAR? BECAUSE MY RIGHT COIL SPRING WENT AT ABOUT 39000 MILES AND I HAD READ UP ON NISSAN VERSA HATCHBACKS AND SURE ENOUGH, A BUNCH OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM (I ACTUALLY WAS WAITING FOR IT TO HAPPEN). MY RIGHT COIL SPRING BROKE MORE DRASTICALLY WHEN I WAS GOING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND I WENT ONTO A BRIDGE. THERE WAS A LOUD CLANG AND MY ALIGNMENT WENT WHACK. LATER UPON INSPECTION AT A REPAIR SHOP, I REALIZED THAT I COULD HAVE HAD A VERY BAD CRASH SEEING THAT THE SHARP PART OF THE BROKEN SPRING COIL WAS ONLY A FEW INCHES AWAY FROM MY TIRE (IT WAS PRETTY UGLY BREAK). THE REPAIR COST ME 200$ WITH A STUDENT DISCOUNT, WHICH I VERY CHEAP, SOME PEOPLE FAIR WORSE. THE MORE RECENT LEFT COIL SPRING BROKE WITHOUT ME EVEN NOTICING ANYTHING, I ONLY FOUND THE BROKEN PIECE ABOUT HALF A RING SIZE. SINCE IT WAS NEAR MY MAILBOX, IT MUST HAVE BROKE OFF AT LOW SPEEDS, PROBABLY WHEN I DROVE OVER THE LITTLE TROUGH IN FRONT OF THE DRIVE WAY FOR THE DRAIN. SOMEHOW THE REST OF THE SPRING JUST RE-ALIGNED ITSELF SO I WAS ACTUALLY ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR WITHOUT NOTICING ANYTHING WRONG. I OBVIOUSLY WONT DRIVE IT NOW UNLESS ITS TO A REPAIR SHOP. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, I AM A 4TH YEAR ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING STUDENT AND I AM DISAPPOINTED AT THE ENGINEERS WHO DESIGNED MY CAR. I PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW AND IT WAS PASSED ON TO MY DAUGHTER. NO ACCIDENTS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT THAT I AM REPORTING. IN APRIL, MY GRANDSON CALLED HIS FATHER AND SAID THAT HE HAD A FLAT TIRE. EVERY TIME I FILLED UP MY GAS TANK, THE CABIN FILLED UP WITH FUMES. I WENT TO MY MECHANIC AND FOUND THE FUEL MODULATOR WAS LEAKING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE PLUG WAS BURNT. THEY REPLACED AND REPAIRED THE ITEMS. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THIS REPLACEMENT MIGHT FALL UNDER A RECALL. BEFORE MY CAR WAS FIXED, I WAS GETTING HEADACHES FROM THE FUMES.

AFTER REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP IN 2013, THE CAR STALLED OUT IN THE FAST LANE OF A SMALL TOWN. NEGOTIATING TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE SECOND FUEL PUMP ALSO FAILED. THERE IS A RECALL ON NISSAN VERSA COIL SPRINGS. MY SPRING BROKE WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ON A BUSY ROAD PRIOR TO THE RECALL. I HAD BOTH SPRINGS REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUSTING (REASON FOR RECALL). UPON RECALL... DEALER NOTIFIED ME. SAID THE SPRINGS MUST BE REPLACED AGAIN BY A NISSAN DEALER. THEY QUOTED A PRICE OF $490 TO ME SAYING THAT THE CURRENT SPRINGS ARE IN GOOD SHAPE, BUT STRIPPED BOLTS DUE TO PRIOR REPLACEMENT. NOT ONLY DO THEY NOT REIMBURSE THE ADDITIONAL $490 FOR THE REPLACEMENT... THAT MUST BE PAID UP FRONT PRIOR TO REQUESTING THE COIL SPRING REIMBURSEMENT THEY SAY THAT THE CURRENT SPRINGS ARE FINE... WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN MY 2009 NISSAN VERSA HATCHBACK LOST POWER, COULDN'T ACCELERATE AND PANEL IDIOT LIGHTS CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER SAFELY. I TRIED RESTARTING IT BUT NOTHING. ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER, I TRIED AGAIN AND SEVERAL TIMES IT ALMOST STARTED BUT DIED OUT. HAD TO GET CAR TOWED. WHEN TOW TRUCK DRIVER GOT IN VEHICLE IT STARTED FOR HIM AND KEPT RUNNING SO HE DROVE IT ONTO THE TOW TRUCK AND TOOK IT TO THE GARAGE. THE TECHNICIAN SCAN TESTE ON BOARD COMPUTER, ALL SENSORS AND SENSOR STRING, UP TO 1/2 HOUR DIAGNOSTIC TIME CHECK PERFORMANCE OF SENSORS, CHECK FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM. PRESSURE TEST STEADY 50 PSI, ROAD TESTED 14 MILES TO VERIFY OR ADDITIONAL NEEDED REPAIRS. CODES SET. NO CODES. COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. CAR RUNNING FINE. ADDITIONAL NOTES: VEHICLE HAS APPROX. 70,000 MI. ALWAYS KEEP HALF TO FULL TANK OF GAS AND SERVICED. THIS IS NOT GOOD! FEAR THAT THE CAR CAN JUST QUIT AT ANY TIME AND CAN POSSIBLY BE IN AN ACCIDENT.

I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON A LOCAL HIGHWAY WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE PULLED IN FRONT OF ME FROM A SIDE STREET. THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN NON-RESPONSIVE THREE TIMES ON MY 2009 NISSAN VERSA. WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKES - THERE IS NO RESPONSE. FORTUNATELY, WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKES A SECOND TIME THEY RESPOND. THE FIRST TWO TIMES WERE AT SPEEDS BELOW 20MPH. TODAY THE 26TH OF DEC. 2008 THE BRAKES WERE NON-RESPONSIVE (FIRST PUSH) AT 50 MPH. ON SECOND PUSH THE CAR SWERVED FIRST LEFT THEN RIGHT - I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND ON THE THIRD PUSH THE CAR BRAKED AS EXPECTED. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS ACCELERATING OUT FROM A STOP SIGN, IT SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING OR NOISE LOST ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND STALLED IN THE INTERSECTION. NO LIGHTS CAME ON AT THAT POINT. RESTARTED CAR, DROVE HOME. I COULD FEEL ACCELERATION HESITATION IN THE GAS PEDAL. NEXT MORNING I STARTED CAR, NOW HAS ENGINE LIGHT ON. I DROVE TO WORK, IT REPEATED THE BEHAVIOR ONCE. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK THE CAR TO GET THE COMPUTER CODE P2138. THE CAR STALLS EVERYDAY THE FIRST TIME IT IS DRIVEN AND I CAN FEEL THE HESITATION EVERYTIME. AFTER THE INITAL STALL, IT DRIVES FINE THE REST OF THE DAY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS ON. I DID UNPLUG THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SENSOR TO AIR BLOW OFF ANY DUST. IT CONTINUES TO BEHAVE THE SAME WHETHER COMING OUT OF A STOP POSITION OR DRIVING ON THE ROAD OR HIGHWAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS. WILL BE TAKING IT TO NISSAN DEALER TO HAVE RECALLS CHECKED AND WILL ASK ABOUT THIS ISSUE AS WELL. I WENT ON THIS SITE AND SAW THAT OTHER NISSANS HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE OVER THE YEARS.

I WAS DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE LANE ON THE HIGHWAY IN A RAINY MORNING AND SAW THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME PUTTING ON BRAKES. I PUT ON THE BRAKES (PRETTY HARD BUT NOT ALL THE WAY THROUGH, 70%). INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN, THE CAR STARTED TO MAKE A SHARP TURN TO THE RIGHT LANE, THEN SWIRLED BACK TO THE MIDDLE LINE AND TO LEFT LINE, AND SPUN INTO A "8" SHAPE FACING THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND SPUN ACROSS THE RIGHT LINE AND THREW ITSELF IN THE DITCH. I WENT TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK OUT THE CAR. WHAT EXPLAINED TO ME IS THAT NISSAN HAVE DRUM BRAKES, AND IN THIS CAUSE, DRUM BRAKES DID NOT HELD THE WHEEL IN THE RAIN. THE FRONT BRAKE STOPPED, BUT DRUM BRAKES FOR BACK WHEELS ARE NOT WORKING, AND THAT CAUSED CAR SPINNING. I TURNED OUT OF A PARKING LOT. MERGED INTO LANE HEADED TOWERED CLEVELAND AVE. I RAN THE RED LIGHT AND HIT A CAR. I HIT IT HEAD ON GOING 40 AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I WENT OUT TO START MY CAR BACK IN MARCH AND SAW THAT I HAD A FLAT TIRE. I THOUGHT IT WAS A ROUTINE FLAT TIRE UNTIL I WENT TO GET THE CAR REPAIRED AND THEY BILLED ME FOR $1500 & EXPLAINED HOW MY STRUTS ON MY FRONT WHEELS BUSTED SO BAD THAT IT WAS PUSHING ON MY TIRES PUNCTURING THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE. THEY WENT ON TO EXPLAIN FURTHER HOW I MUST HAVE HIT SOMETHING EXTREMELY HARD B/C THOSE ARE VERY DIFFICULT TO BREAK. SINCE THERE WAS NOTHING BUT THE OCCASIONAL BUMP IN THE ROAD I HIT I REALIZED THAT SOMETHING HAD TO BE WRONG WITH THE STRUT AND SPRINGS. THIS COMPLAINT IS MOTIVATED BY THE FACT THAT MY STRUTS AND SPRINGS COULD HAVE BROKEN DURING MY ROUTINE TRIPS ON THE HIGHWAY BETWEEN BLOOMINGTON AND INDIANAPOLIS. IF THEY WOULD HAVE BROKE AT THAT TIME WHILE TRAVELING BETWEEN 50-70 MPH I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A HIGH SPEED ACCIDENT THAT COULD VERY EASILY HAVE TAKEN MY LIFE OR THE OTHERS AROUND ME.

DRIVING ALONG, HEARD A LOUD POP AS I TURNED ONTO A MAJOR ROADWAY. THE CAR WAS PULLING VERY BADLY TO THE LEFT SIDE AND COULD BARELY STOP THE VEHICLE. HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED HOME AND THE STRUTS REPLACED ON THE CAR. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON AND VERY COSTLY ISSUE. I WAS QUOTED $930 TO HAVE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. NOT A HAPPY NISSAN OWNER.

THE COIL SPRING BROKE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR RIPPING INTO THE TIRE, WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE CAR'S STEERING WAS IMMEDIATELY AFFECTED AND SO WERE THE BRAKES, SINCE THE BROKEN SPRING RIPPED THE BRAKE LINE. A BRAND NEW CAR BOUGHT EARLY JANUARY 2009. IT HAS 60885 MILES WHEN INCIDENT OCCURRED. THE MUFFLER FALL DOWN AND BROKE AT FLANGE CONNECTION POINT. WENT TO NISSAN DEALER TO CHECK OUT AND EXAM THE PROBLEM. THEY INDICATE THAT A CORROSION FROM INSIDE THE MUFFLER PIPE HAS OCCURRED AND CAUSED THIS CRACKS, SO IT FALL DOWN. IT WAS CLEAR A POOR MANUFACTURING, OR DEFAULT IN MANUFACTURING THIS PART WAS THE REASON TO CAUSE THIS INCIDENT. DEALER OFFERED TO REPLACE IT WITH A NEW PART WITH COST UP TO $ 600, WHERE IT SUPPOSED TO BE FREE OF CHARGE. I WOULD TO CLAIM NISSAN US CORP. RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS INCIDENT. THEY DID NOT MADE EARLY RECALL TO REPLACE THIS PART WHERE THEY KNEW THE PROBLEM. IT WAS CLEAR THAT THEY WAIT TO HAPPEN AT ANY TIME TO MAKE MORE PROFITS. THIS IT LOOKS LIKE AS A FRAUD. I WAS DRIVING AT 45 MPH AND A LOUD "THUMP" UNDER MY CAR SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING HIT THE UNDERCARRIAGE. I LOOKED BACK AND COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING ON THE ROAD. THE ENTIRE BOTTOM COIL OF THE SPRING HAD SNAPPED RIGHT THROUGH THE METAL AND FALLEN OFF THE CAR. THIS IS THE SECOND COIL SPRING ON MY CAR THAT HAS DONE THIS. POTENTIAL LOSS OF MUFFLER WHILE DRIVING ALSO CREATES RISK OF ACCIDENT AND INJURY TO CAR PASSENGERS AND/OR OTHER VEHICLES ON ROAD. DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY CAR TENDS TO LOSE POWER AND SPUTTER AND IN SOME CASES IT WILL STALL. WHEN TRYING TO RESTART IT, IT WILL NOT START. THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS. ALSO, IF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND THEN SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF YOU CAN NOT RESTART IT WITHOUT WAITING AT LEAST 30 MINUTES. MY 16 YEAR OLD HAS BEEN DRIVING THIS CAR AND THE FIRST INSTANCE IT HAPPENED WAS WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING IT. SHE LOST ALL POWER AND WAS NOT EVEN ABLE TO USE HER BRAKES. SHE CAME VERY CLOSE TO HITTING A WALL BUT WAS ABLE TO STEER IT AWAY BUT STEERING WAS VERY DIFFICULT AS WELL. WE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP THINKING IT WASN'T GETTING ENOUGH GAS BUT THIS STILL HASN'T FIXED THE ISSUE. WE ARE TOLD BY MECHANICS THAT THE PROBLEM CAN'T BE DUPLICATED THEREFORE IT CAN'T BE FIXED. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED AND I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NISSAN HAS NOT RECALLED THIS CAR DUE TO MANY COMPLAINTS WITH THIS ISSUE. I GUESS SOMEONE HAS TO LOSE THEIR LIFE BEFORE THEY WILL FIX IT. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST NISSAN AND THEY FIXED IT WHILE I WENT AND BOUGHT NEW TIRES. ABOUT 3 MONTHS LATER, IT HAPPENED ON THE LEFT SIDE. THEN ABOUT A YEAR AFTER THAT, THE SPRING ABOVE THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE BROKE AGAIN, SO I REPLACED IT A THIRD TIME TO A COST OF $1200 PER SPRING. I WAS PULLING OUT OF A WAWA AFTER FUELING UP WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THE CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I HAD TO PUSH IT TO THE SIDE. WITHIN WEEKS OF MY PURCHASE OF A 2009 NISSAN VERSA SL, I NOTICED, WHEN MAKING RIGHT OR LEFT TURNS AT SLOW SPEEDS (5-10 MPH), ESPECIALLY GOING OVER A BUMP AND WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED 1- 1 1/2 TIMES (AS IN GOING INTO A DRIVEWAY) I EXPERIENCE LOUD CLUNKING AND VIBRATIONS IN WHEEL, AND IT CAN BE EASILY HEARD COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE CLUNK IS ALWAYS THERE AT 1 TO 1 1/4 TURN FROM THE FULL CLOCKWISE STOP. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS PROBLEM AT LEAST 5 TIMES; THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. SEVERAL TIMES, THE SERVICE WRITER SAID HE COULDN'T HEAR OR FEEL THE 'CLUNK' BUT THE MECHANIC SAID HE COULD. THE VERSA DOES MOVE AROUND QUITE A BIT AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE FREEWAY, BUT I AM UNSURE IF THAT IS CAUSED BY THE ABOVE DESCRIBED PROBLEM OR THE LIGHT WEIGHT OF THE VERSA. THE SOUND AND FEEL OF THIS 'CLUNK' IS VERY DISCONCERTING, AND GIVEN THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I'VE SEEN FOR 3 YEARS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, I'M WONDERING IF THE GOVERNMENT/AUTOMAKER ARE WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DIE BEFORE THEY ACT.

I PURCHASED A 2009 NISSAN VERSA. I HAVE JUST OVER 40,000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR IN THE LEFT LANE, MY CAR SUDDENLY SHUT OFF AND LOST ACCELERATION AT AN ALARMING RATE. DUE TO A GUARD RAIL ON MY LEFT, I NEEDED TO GET OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE QUICKLY AND WAS JUST BARELY ABLE DO SO SAFELY. I WAS ALMOST INVOLVED IN A VERY DANGEROUS ACCIDENT! TL*THE CONTACT OWNED A 2009 NISSAN VERSA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH ENTERING THE RIGHT LANE THE CONTACT WAS FORCED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL BACK IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION IN ORDER TO CENTER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND TO THE CHANGE IN STEERING AND CONTINUED TO DRIFT TO THE RIGHT UNTIL IT CRASHED. DURING THE FAILURE THE BRAKES WOULD NOT FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO AN INSURANCE LOT WHERE THEY DID NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 50,000.

DIFFICULTY READING SPEEDOMETER) I HAVE A 2009 NISSAN VERSA HATCHBACK. THIS SAFETY COMPLAINT IS BASED ON THE FACT THAT THE QUADRANT ( ZERO TO 40 MILES) CANNOT BE READ DURING MOST DAYLIGHT HOURS. THE BACKLIGHT PROVIDES A CONTRAST SUFFICIENT TO READ THE SPEEDOMETER ONLY DURING EVENING AND LOW LIGHT PERIODS. IT APPEARS THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM BECAUSE THE SPEEDOMETER FACE IS SET SO FAR BACK THAT IS IT DEPRIVED OF NATURAL LIGHT AND/OR THE BACK LIGHT IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO CREATE A CONTRAST. THE QUADRANT (70 TO 100 MPH) RECEIVES SUFFICIENT LIGHT TO BE READ, BUT I NEVER DRIVE OVER 60 MPH. THIS IS INDEED A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IN STRICT SPEED ZONES, ESPECIALLY SCHOOLS THAT USE CAMERA ENFORCEMENT, I AM FORCED TO DRIVE WITH ONE HAND ON THE WHEEL AND THE RIGHT HAND HOLDING A FLASH LIGHT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN VERSA. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER TURNED ON THE CONTACT SUDDENLY FELL ASLEEP AND CRASHED INTO A VEHICLE. NO ONE WAS INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. PRIOR TO THE RECENT FAILURE, THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE RESULTING IN A CRASH; HOWEVER, NO ONE WAS INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. ON OCTOBER 28, 2008, I PURCHASED MY FIRST VEHICLE ' A 2009 NISSAN VERSA FROM TIM DAHLE NISSAN. MY EXPERIENCE WITH TIM DAHLE NISSAN HAS BEEN BOTH FRUSTRATING AND DISCOURAGING. THE INCOMPETENCE AND LACK OF CARE EXHIBITED BY THE SALESMEN AND GENERAL MANAGER IS BEYOND BELIEF. THE DAY THAT I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE, MY SALESMAN RICH VANPATTEN DID NOT CARE TO MENTION TO ME THAT THE NISSAN VERSA DOES NOT COME EQUIPPED WITH AN ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. I DISCOVERED THIS FACT WHILE READING THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND REALIZED THAT ABS IS AN OPTIONAL PACKAGE THAT A CUSTOMER MAY CHOSE TO ADD TO THEIR VEHICLE. I AM COMPLETELY ASTOUNDED THAT NISSAN HAS CHOSEN NOT TO MAKE ABS A STANDARD SAFETY FEATURE IN THE VERSA. ALTHOUGH ABS HAS NOT PROVEN TO DECREASE THE AMOUNT OF ACCIDENTS CAUSED, IT CREATES A WAY OF DRIVING AND SWERVING IN WINTER CONDITIONS THAT SOMEONE SUCH AS MYSELF, WHO HAS DRIVEN WITH ABS FOR NEARLY MY ENTIRE DRIVING CAREER, WOULD HAVE TO ADJUST TO WHEN DRIVING A CAR WITHOUT ABS. SEEING AS HOW AN ABS PACKAGE COSTS ONLY $250 TO INCLUDE IN THE VEHICLE'S PRICE, I WOULD HAVE HAPPILY ADDED THIS PACKAGE TO MY NISSAN VERSA. I AIRED MY CONCERN WITH MY SALESMAN RICH VANPATTEN AND THE OTHER SALESMAN- WHO PRESSURED ME INTO BELIEVING THAT THE ONLY WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM WOULD REQUIRE ME TO PAY $5,000 FOR A VEHICLE UPGRADE. I ATTEMPTED TO DISCUSS THIS MATTER WITH THE GENERAL MANAGER RONNIE DUNN AND HE FAILED TO RETURN ANY OF MY CALLS. FINALLY, AFTER MAKING AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE "SALES MANAGER" CLAYTON, HE FAILED TO SHOW UP TO THE APPOINTMENT TO DISCUSS THE MATTER AND NEVER CALLED TO EXPLAIN HIS RUDE AND DISTASTEFUL BEHAVIOR. I FEEL THAT IT WAS MY RIGHT TO KNOW ABOUT THE ABS OPTION AND TO DECIDE, FOR MYSELF, IF IT WAS AN OPTION THAT I NEEDED FOR MY VEHICLE. RATHER, I WAS TOLD MY SEVERAL SALES ASSOCIATES THAT IT IS USELESS AND THAT I WOULD SIMPLY NEED TO CHANGE MY DRIVING BEHAVIOR.
