NISSAN ALTIMA - CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON NOVEMBER 2006. NISSAN DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER SENSOR COULD BE BAD AND NOT NECESSARILY THE PART. THEY SHUT THE LIGHT OFF AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. THE LIGHT CONTINUED TO GO OFF AND ON OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT YEAR YET PASSED A STATE EMISSIONS TEST. NO OTHER ENGINE PROBLEMS OCCURRED. NOVEMBER, 2008 VEHICLE FAILED STATE EMISSIONS TEST - TOLD IT WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. NISSAN DEALERSHIP STATES THE WARRANTY RAN OUT AT 80K MILES - THE CAR HAS 83K MILES. HAVE NOT HAD THE CAR LOOKED AT BY DEALERSHIP MECHANIC YET FOR FEAR THE ESTIMATED $1000 REPAIR COULD TURN INTO AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT AT A MUCH HIGHER COST. *TR

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A LACERATION TO THE ELBOW AND BODY PAINS WHILE HER PASSENGER SUSTAINED SEVERAL LACERATIONS AND BRUISES FROM THE SEAT BELT AND AIR BAGS. PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER OF 2006 AND IN MAY 2008 AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN THE CITY ONLY DOING ABOUT 10 MPH. THE WHEEL JERKED REALLY FUNNY AND THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE BRAKES. UPON ATTEMPTING TO GO MY CAR WOULDN'T PICK UP SPEED AND WAS MAKING A RUBBING NOISE. LIMPED INTO GARAGE WHERE THEY SHOWED ME MY CALIPERS WERE LOCKED UP. HAD BOTH CALIPERS, BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED. OCTOBER 2009, DRIVING AT 55 MPH, STARTED SMELLING BURNT RUBBER SMELL, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO I PULLED OVER TO HAVE IT TOWED. THOUGHT IT WAS OVERHEATING EVEN THOUGH GAUGE DID NOT INDICATE THAT. GARAGE STATED I NEEDED A NEW BRAKE LINE SO HAD IT REPLACED AND ON THE WAY HOME I BEGAN SMELLING THAT HORRIBLE SMELL AGAIN SO I DECIDED TO TAKE TO ANOTHER GARAGE WHERE THEY SHOWED ME MY CALIPER WAS LOCKED UP JUST ENOUGH TO HEAT THE ROTOR UP. HAD CALIPER AND BRAKES REPLACED. APRIL 2010, JUST FROM PAST EXPERIENCES I KNEW WHAT THE RUBBING NOISE AND LOSS OF POWER MEANT. SURE ENOUGH DRIVER'S SIDE CALIPER WAS LOCKED UP. HAD CALIPER, BRAKES AND NEW BRAKE HOSE PUT ON. JULY 2011, YET AGAIN MY CALIPER IS LOCKED UP. SO AS I AM TYPING THIS ITS BACK IN FOR THE USUAL. IN ALMOST EVERY INSTANCE THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS OF FAILURE UNTIL IT BECAME EXTREME. I CONTACTED NISSAN BUT THEY STATED ITS THE USUAL WEAR AND TEAR. I OWN A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA THAT HAS JUST 37000 MILES ON IT. IN THE PAST 2-3 WEEKS I NOTICED BRAKE NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE METAL ON METAL GRIDING. I OF COURSE TOOK IT TO MY DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND WAS TOLD THAT ALL FOUR SETS OF BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN SHORT, EVERYTHING WAS GONE. AFTER LESS THAN 2.5 YEAR. THIS SEEMS LIKE EXCESSIVE AND PREMATURE BRAKE FAILURE. I HAVE VISTITED SEVERAL OWNER WEBSITES AND HAVE SEEN A MULTITUDE OF STORIES REGARDING EARLY BRAKE WEAR ON THE 2002 ALTIMA. THIS VEJICLE HAS ALSO HAD 5 SAFETY RECALL IN THE LAST 2 YEARS. NISSAN CLAIMS THAT THIS IS "NORMAL" BRAKE WEAR. I THINK IT'S A POTENTIAL SAFTEY HAZARD. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED AT A COST OF $900. VEHICLE: 2002 NISSAN XTERRA SE TAIL LIGHTS, FRONT SIDE MARKER LIGHTS, DASH PANEL ILLUMINATION FAILED DUE TO WIRE CHAFING BEHIND DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT MARKER LIGHT. THE BACK OF THE BULB SOCKET FOR THE FRONT SIDE MARKER LIGHT PINCHES IT'S CONNECTION WIRE AGAINST THE HEAD OF A 10MM SCREW LOCATED IMMEDIATELY BEHIND THE BULB SOCKET. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE BULB SOCKET AND THE CHASSIS SCREW. THE SIDE MARKER LIGHT IS MOUNTED IN THE TOP EDGE OF THE FRONT BUMPER WHERE IT WRAPS AROUND THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE BUMPER MOVES UP AND DOWN WHEN THE ROAD SURFACE IS NOT SMOOTH, WHICH CAUSES THE WIRE TO BE RUBBED AGAINST THE HEAD OF THE CHASSIS SCREW, WHICH WEARS THE INSULATION FROM THE WIRE AND RESULTS IN AN ELECTRICAL SHORT BETWEEN THE DAMAGED WIRE AND THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THE FRONT SIDE MARKER LIGHTS SHARE THE FUSE WHICH ALSO PROTECTS THE TAIL LIGHTS, SO WHEN THE SHORT OCCURS THE TAIL LIGHTS BECOME INOPERATIVE. UNTIL WE FINALLY FOUND THE PROBLEM, MY DAUGHTER HAD TO DRIVE HOME AT NIGHT WITHOUT TAIL LIGHTS ON THREE OCCASIONS. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED, SHE WAS STOPPED BY A POLICE OFFICER BECAUSE HER TAIL LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. SHE HAD TO GET OUT OF THE CAR AND, WITH THE HELP OF OUR SON, PUSH IT OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO CLEAR THE STREET. THE FAILURE WAS FOUND LATER TO BE A BAD FUEL PUMP AND BAD FUEL SENDING UNIT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP THAT DID THE DIAGNOSIS AND ISOLATED THE FAULT TO THOSE TWO COMPONENTS. THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND SENDING UNIT, AS WELL AS THE FUEL FILTER AND STRAINER. DURING THE CONVERSATION WITH THE REPAIR SHOP (NOT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP) THEY MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS A NISSAN RECALL OUT FOR THE SENDING UNIT, AND THAT I OUGHT TO BE REIMBURSED BY NISSAN. WHEN I CONTACTED NISSAN THEY TOLD ME I COULD NOT BE REIMBURSED BECAUSE THE RECALL / REPAIR HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE ON THIS SAME VEHICLE IN 2005. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS THE FUEL SENDING HARNESS WHICH SHORTED AND CAUSED THE PLASTIC FUEL LINE TO MELT AND STARTED A SMALL FIRE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO TOOK A COMPLAINT AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD REVIEW THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 138,000.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH WHEN MY ENGINE DIED. I CRUISED IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND ATTEMPTED TO START IT AGAIN, BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I COULD SMELL GAS. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED, WE INITIALLY DETERMINED FUEL PUMP FAILURE. ONCE THE REPAIR WAS INITIATED, WE FOUND THAT THE WIRE TO THE FUEL SENDING UNIT WAS CORRODED AND HAD HEATED UP ENOUGH TO CAUSE A PEA SIZE HOLE IN THE PLUG. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT FAILURE COMPLETED ON MY VEHICLE IN 12/2004, BUT INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE UNIT, THEY ONLY SPRAYED SEALANT ON THE WIRE (BECAUSE NO CORROSION WAS FOUND) TO PREVENT CORROSION IN THE FUTURE. TEAM NISSAN STATED THERE WERE NO TSB'S OR RECALLS ON THE FRONT BRAKES, ALTHOUGH OTHER OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF SIMILAR INSTANCES. ON 09/10/03, WHILE DRIVING AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCED TOTAL BRAKING FAILURE WITH LOSS OF ALL PRESSURE IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. FORTUNATELY, THIS DID NOT RESULT IN A COLLISION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TAMAROFF NISSAN WHERE ANALYSIS WAS PERFORMED AND THE FOLLOWING EXPLANATION OFFERED: I WAS TOLD THAT THROUGH NORMAL WEAR ON THE BRAKE PADS THE METAL-TO-METAL CONTACT CREATED EXCESSIVE HEAT CAUSING THE CALIPERS TO SEIZE THE ROTOR CREATING DAMAGE TO BOTH THE ROTOR AND CALIBERS RESULTING IN A MAJOR LOSS OF FUNCTION. AN ESTIMATE OF REPAIRS OF GREATER THAN $940.00 WAS PROVIDED. I AM QUESTIONING THIS EXPLANATION AND AM REQUESTING FORMAL INVESTIGATION NOT ONLY DUE TO THE EXPENSIVE REPAIR, BUT THE POTENTIAL FOR MAJOR SAFETY IMPLICATIONS IF THIS IS IN FACT A PART OF NORMAL WEAR AT 25,000 MILES. I AM REQUESTING THAT THIS SITUATION BE INVESTIGATED UNDER THE ONGOING NHTSA INVESTIGATION OF NISSAN XTERA ROTOR FAILURE ACTION NUMBER DP03-005 OPENED 07/11/03. I FIND THE EXPLANATION DIFFICULT TO ACCEPT IN AS MUCH AS THE EVENT OCCURRED AFTER DRIVING ONLY APPROXIMATELY 1,000 FEET ON THE PROPERTY OF WILLIAM BEAUMONT HOSPITAL. IT IS IMPLAUSIBLE THAT EXCESSIVE HEAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE SEIZURE OF THE NISSAN NORTH AMERICA INC. PAGE TWO SEPTEMBER 11, 2003 BRAKE CALIBERS ON THE ROTOR. ON AT LEAST TWO OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP WHEN COMPLAINTS OF A NOISE FROM THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WHILE TURNING TO THE RIGHT WERE ADDRESSED. IN ADDITION, A BURNING SMELL WAS DESCRIBED AND ADDRESSED. A VEHICLE INSPECTION AT THE DEALERSHIP AT 17,180 MILES WAS ALSO PERFORMED WITH NO INDICATION OF ANY BRAKE PROBLEM.

AFTER 4 WEEKS, I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE NISSAN WILL COVER THE REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE, BUT THAT IS ALL. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANYTHING ELSE I CAN OR SHOULD PURSUE FOR NEGLIGENCE ON BEHALF OF THE CORPORATION AND THE DEALER. THROTTLE IS NOT RESPONSIVE ACCELERATION WHEN GIVEN GASSED PEDAL DOES NOT INCREASE AND DECREASE SPEED ACCORDINGLY, WHICH GIVES A COMPLETE LACK OF CONTROL OVER DRIVING VEHICLE. WHEN DRIVING IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO ACCELERATE TO NORMAL SPEED EVEN WHEN PRESSING PEDAL TO THE FLOOR, WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE PAST 15 MPH THE ENGINE REVS REALLY HARD AND JERKS AS IF IT IS ABOUT TO STALL. I STALLED OUT ON THE FREEWAY WITHOUT WARNING. IT IS HARD TO CONTROL SPEED WHEN TRYIN TO INCREASE OR DECREASE ACCELERATION. THE PEDAL FEELS INCONSISTENT WITH THE THROTTLE AND/ OR RPM AND IS VERY HAZARDOUS. WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE IN LOW SPEEDS IN RESIDENTIAL AREA OR PARK THE PEDAL ARELY MOVES AND IF GIVEN THE SLIGHTEST GAS IT WILL SHUT OFF E FINE OR TAKE OFF AND DOES NOT RESPOND WHEN YOU STOP ACCELERATION, OR BRAKE AS IT SHOULD. I HAVE HAD POWER STEERING COLUMN FIXED AND AIR INTAKE FLOW HOSE REPLACED, I KEEP GETTING ERROR CODES THAT COME AND GO: P0122, P0128, AND P0123. THIS SEEMS TO HAVE SIMILAR RECALLS FOR OTHE MODEL AND YEAR OF NISSAN, AND WHEN I INQUIRE A OUT THE ISSUE TO NISSAN RECALL DEPT. THEY SAY THE PREVIOUS RECALL FOR GAS RESPONSE UNIT HAS BEEN COMPLETED ON THIS VEHICLE HOWEVER, I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW THAT IS POSSIBLE WITH THIS ISSUE I AM HAVING. I WAS TRAVELING ON I-76 IN COLORADO AND USING MY CRUISE CONTROL. I HAD NOTICED ONE TIME ON THE HIGHWAY THAT WHEN I PUT ON THE BRAKE THE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT DISENGAGE UNTIL MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. I WAS ABOUT TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY AT JULESBURG COLORADO HEADING WEST, DISENGAGED THE CRUISE CONTROL BY STEPPING ON THE BRAKE AND WHEN I GOT ON THE EXIT RAMP IT RE-ENGAGED. I PUT IN THE CLUTCH, STEPPED ON THE BRAKE WITH NO RESPONSE. THE EXIT RAMP IS SHORT AND A SINGLE LANE. AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RAMP WAS A SEMI-TRUCK AND I HAD TO STEER THE CAR INTO THE AREA NEXT TO THE RAMP AND I HIT A CULVERT AND THE CAR FLIPPED THREE TIMES. MY DAUGHTER AND I WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND RELEASED THAT EVENING. I REPORTED THIS TO NISSAN, THEY INSPECTED THE CAR AT THE JUNK YARD AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. POWER WINDOW REGULATOR AND MOTOR FAILURE. TOOK MY 2002 NISSAN XTERRA IN FOR ITS 45,000 MILE STANDARD SERVICE. 2 WEEKS EARLIER I NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR POWER WINDOW MOTOR STOPPED WORKING. SO I ASKED THE TECHNICIAN TO LOOK AT THE ISSUE. TECHNICIAN CALLED ME LATER IN DAY TO SAY THAT THE MOTOR DIED, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, WARRANTY EXPIRED. THIS SURPRISED ME BECAUSE BEING THE ONLY DRIVER OF THE CAR, WITHOUT KIDS, I ONLY PUT THE REAR WINDOWS DOWN A HANDFUL OF TIMES SINCE OWNING THE VEHICLE. IT SEEMED VERY PREMATURE FOR THIS PART TO FAIL. I TOLD THE TECHNICIAN THIS, AND HE SAID THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE CAR'S WINDOW REGULATOR, BUT NOT THE MOTOR...SO HE WOULD BE WILLING TO COVER LABOR IF I PURCHASED THE PART FOR $260.00. I AGREED THAT HE SHOULD ORDER THE PART. LATER THAT NIGHT, I WENT ON THE INTERNET TO RESEARCH THE ISSUE, AND FOUND THAT THOUSANDS OF CONSUMERS WITH 2001 AND 2002 XTERRAS HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THEIR POWER WINDOW MOTORS FAILING AT 12-45,000 MILES. I SUSPECTED THAT THE REGULATOR DEFECT WAS CAUSING THE MOTORS TO WORK HARDER THAN THEY SHOULD AND BURN OUT PREMATURELY. I ASKED THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE FREE OF CHARGE THE REGULATOR/MOTOR UNIT SINCE THE KNOWN REGULATOR DEFECT CAUSED THE MOTOR FAILURE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE MOTOR HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE REGULATOR, AND REFUSED TO HONOR THIS REQUEST. I AND THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE WERE BEING UNFAIRLY TREATED. WHAT WAS WORSE WAS THAT I FOUND ON LINE THAT THE REGULATOR/MOTOR PART WAS SOLD AS 1 UNIT AND FOR $66.00 WITH A LIFETIME WARRANTY WHEREAS THE REPLACEMENT UNTIL NISSAN WAS SELLING ME COST $260.00 WITH ONLY A 12 MONTH LIMITED WARRANTY. *AK

MY WIFE'S CAR WAS IN NEED OF TWO FRONT TIRES SO I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO WHEELS 360- IT WAS THE ONLY SHOP OPEN AND I WAS CRUNCHED ON TIME. SHE IS AN EMT AND I AM AN EDUCATOR SO WE DO NOT HAVE MUCH SPARE TIME DURING THE WEEK. THE SHOP OVER CHARGED ME FOR TWO LOW QUANTITY TIRES. THERE WERE TWO WORKERS REPLACING THE TIRES ON MY VEHICLE. THE WORKER REPLACING THE WHEEL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DAMAGED THE WHEEL STUDS BECAUSE HE WAS ON A HURRY. THE LEAD WORKER AND TWO OTHERS SPENT 2 HOURS TRYING TO FIX THE STUDS AND GET SOME OF THE LUG NUTS BACK ON. THEY MANAGED TO GET 5 OUT OF THE SIX ON. THEY INSISTED ON SENDING ME HOME WITH A WHEEL MISSING ONE LUG NUT. THEY ASKED ME TO COMEBACK TOMORROW OR SOME OTHER DAY TO FIX IT. IT WAS CLOSE TO 9 PM BY THAT TIME, AND I WAS FRUSTRATED. I DROVE HOME AND ON THE WAY HOME, THE CENTER HUB PLASTIC COVERING FELL OFF. IT EXPOSED THE AXLE/BEARING. I FEEL THAT VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING MY TODDLER AROUND. SHOPS LIKE THE ONE MENTIONED SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO OPERATE BECAUSE THEY COMPROMISE DRIVERS' SAFETY.I WOULD LIKE 1. A REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE OVERPRICED TIRES AND 2. AS THE CONSUMER EXAMINED UNDER THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT OF THE 4 BOLTS HOLDING THE WHEEL TO THE AXLE ONLY ONE REMAINED AND DIDN'T HAVE A NUT HOLDING IT. IT HIT THE THE MOUNTAIN SIDE TREES AND SNOW THEN IT ROLLED OVER. MY SON AND ME WERE SHAKEN AND I SMELLED THE GAS SO I TURN THE ENGINE, IT STILL RUNNING. NISSAN DID NOT FEEL THAT THEY WERE RESPONSIBLE, BECAUSE THE SPARE TIRE WAS OVERSIZED, COMPARED TO THE RECOMMENDED TIRE SIZE (SEARS HAD INSTALLED A WRANGLER P26570S17 TO SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT ON 9/21/2004). PER NISSAN, THE RECOMMENDED TIRE WAS P266565,17. FORTUNATELY, THE LOSS OF HYDRAULIC FLUID AND LOSS OF BRAKING FLUID DID NOT LEAD TO A CRASH OR INJURY. MID- JULY TO LATE NOVEMBER 2006 MY CAR BEGAN TO STALL IN COLD/WARM WEATHER. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND. MY CAR STARTED TO CONSUME OIL AT AN ALARMING RATE IN APRIL 2007. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER YET AGAIN AND I WAS TOLD IT HAD INTERNAL ENGINE DAMAGE AND THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE EXTERNAL COMPONENTS. I WAS QUOTED $4,000-$4,200 FOR A REPLACEMENT ENGINE. I HAVE ALWAYS GOTTEN MY REPAIR WORK AND OIL CHANGES AT NISSAN DEALERS AND NOW WHEN MY EXTENDED WARRANTY IS GONE I AM TOLD I NEED TO BUY AN ENGINE. THIS IS UNFAIR AND COSTLY. I CANNOT USE THE CAR FOR WORK COMMUTES OR TO GET TO SCHOOL. NISSAN HAS BEEN TOLD MANY TIMES ABOUT THEIR PRODUCT FAILURE AND THE MECHANICS BASICALLY ONLY CARE THAT YOU BUY/NOT BUY A MOTOR. TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE. THE CONTACT PULLED INTO A GAS STATION, PURCHASED OIL AND PUT IT INTO THE VEHICLE, AND THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE CONTACT HAD TRIPLE AAA TOW THE VEHICLE TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS DIESEL FUEL MIXED WITH GAS. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED THE FUEL TANK AND THE FUEL SYSTEM TO BE FLUSHED, AND THE OIL CHANGED, SPARK PLUGS REPLACED, AND THE FUEL FILTER REPLACED. THE DEALER HAD THE CONTACTS VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS AND PERFORMED AN OIL CHANGE, FLUSHED THE FUEL TANK, AND FUEL SYSTEM. THE CONTACT PICKED UP THE VEHICLE ,WENT DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET AND PURCHASED HIGH OCTANE GAS. THE VEHICLE RAN LONG ENOUGH FOR HIM TO GO ACROSS THE STREET, GOT THE GAS AND THEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT DID NOT BELIEVE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING AS IT DID BEFORE THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER , WHERE ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC HAD TO BE DONE, AND THE DEALER TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REBUILT. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE FIRST DIAGNOSTIC SHOULD HAVE REVEALED THAT THE ENGINE HAD A PROBLEM, AND THAT NOTHING ON THE DASHBOARD EVER INDICATED THAT THE OIL WAS LOW. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN AUGUST, AND THE PROBLEMS BEGAN AT THE END OF JANUARY. THE CONTACT FELT THAT IF THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE OIL IT WAS PURCHASED THAT WAY. I WAS INFORMED BY NISSAN THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE ENGINE EXHAUST SYSTEM 12/03. I FOLLOWED UP AND HAD IT REPAIRED OR REPLACED , AT THIS POINT I'M UNCERTAIN WHAT HAPPENED. TODAY, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS INOPERABLE AND IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY 800.00 TO REPLACE IT. THIS IS A DEVICE THAT IS APART OF THE ENGINE EXHAUST RECALL THAT WAS DONE IN '03. BECAUSE 2 YEARS HAVE PASSED SINCE THE RECALL WAS DONE, I AM NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND I AM FORCED TO MAKE ANOTHER COSTLY REPAIR. I'M THOROUGHLY DISGUSTED WITH THE DESIGN AND QUALITY OF THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. WITHIN 6 MONTHS I'VE NOW SPENT $600 ($300 EACH INCLUDING LABOR) TO REPLACE BOTH HEADLIGHTS ON MY AUTO ALL BECAUSE IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO REPLACE A $6 BULB. THERE IS A SEVERE DESIGN FLAW AND SHOWS LACK OF QUALITY PRODUCED BY NISSAN. APPARENTLY NISSAN IS NOT CONCERNED ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THEIR PRODUCT AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION ONCE THE PAPERWORK IS SIGNED AND THE DEAL IS DONE ON THE SALE OF THEIR AUTOS. I PLAN TO RETURN TO TOYOTA FOR MY NEXT AUTO PURCHASE.

THIS IS A VERY SOLID, AND STABLE VEHICLE IN THE SNOW AND ICE, (WITH STUDDED SNOW TIRES, ALL SEASON RADIALS ONLY WORK IN FLORIDA) IT HANDLES WELL, AND PERFORMS NICELY FOR A SMALL SUV. THE ONLY COMPLAINTS THAT I HAVE WITH THIS VEHICLE, IS THAT THE RIDE IS A BIT ROUGH. AND IT IS A BIT UNCOMFORTABLE FOR TALLER PEOPLE ON LONG RIDES. TO THOSE THAT ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE VEHICLE PULLING TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2002 NISSAN XTERRA VEHICLE IN NOVEMBER 2001. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AT THE PACIFIC NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA. MY WIFE AND CHILDREN WENT ON AN OUTING ON EASTER SUNDAY. WHILE AT LUNCH, 5-15 MINUTES GO BUY AND A PERSON INQUIRES ABOUT A PARKED XTERRA ON FIRE. TO MY WIFE'S HORROR IT WAS OUR XTERRA WITH THE WIDOWS UP AND FLAMES/SMOKE COMING FROM THE DASH/STEERING COLUMN AREA. MY INSURANCE AND THE FIRE MARSHAL DETERMINED THE FIRE APPEARED TO BE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT/ARCHING AND NO OTHER APPARENT SOURCES OF IGNITION WERE PRESENT. THE VEHICLE WAS DETERMINED TO BE A TOTAL LOSS. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO PACIFIC NISSAN WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND HAVE MAINTAINED THEIR RECOMMENDED ROUTINE SERVICE. THE SERVICE MANAGEMENT QUESTIONED WHY THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT OVER TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND NOT TO THEIR BODY SHOP. I EXPLAINED THE BODY SHOP SENT US OVER TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. HE EXPLAINED TO HE COULD NOT DO ANYTHING AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE. I QUESTIONED HIM WHY I HAVE TO SUFFER GOING THROUGH MY INSURANCE WHEN THIS WAS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND MY VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER THE BASIC WARRANTY. KNOWING I WAS NOT GETTING ANYWHERE WITH THIS GUY, I REQUESTED A PHONE NUMBER FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THEY WOULD ONLY REFER ME BACK TO HIM. I AM CONFUSED ON WHAT I SHOULD DO. SHOULD I PAY THE DEDUCTIBLE AND HOPE MY INSURANCE WILL PAY THE WHOLE AMOUNT OWED ON MY VEHICLE? SHOULD I GET A LAWYER? NO MATTER WHAT I AM STILL OUT A VEHICLE AND HAVE TO, IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, PAY FOR SOME OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES. I HAVE CONTACTED THE NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPART. AND THEY EXPLAINED TO ME THEY WOULD HAVE TO LOOK INTO IT. THE CUSTOMER AFFAIRS REP. DID INFORM ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THEIR AIR BAG MODULE, BUT HE WAS NOT SURE WHAT COULD HAPPEN. THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER ON ACCELERATION UP TO 60 MPH UPON PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE. AFTER LOSING POWER, THE CAR "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. THE ENGINE RAN ROUGH WITH HESITATION AND COULD MAINTAIN A SPEED OF ONLY 30 MPH. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR MALFUNCTION. DEALER RE-SET E.C.U. AND SO FAR, PROBLEM HAS NOT REPEATED. POWER WINDOW PROBLEM OCCURS ON DRIVER SIDE, FRONT WINDOW. THE WINDOW GOES DOWN AT NORMAL SPEED BUT COMES UP VERY SLOWLY WITH INTERMITTENT STOPS. FIRST TIME PROBLEM REPORTED TO DEALER, DEALER LUBED WINDOW TRACK. PROBLEM PERSISTED, SO WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER, WHO ORDERED A NEW RUBBER WINDOW CASING.
