GAS GAUGE READS EMPTY WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS FULL OR SHOWS SOME QUANTITY OF GAS WHEN IT IS EMPTY AND VARIATIONS IN BETWEEN. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AFFECTING SEVERAL MODELS AND YEARS THAT NISSAN EXTENDED ITS WARRANTY FOR, BUT DID NOT RECALL, CLAIMING IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE (SEE HTTP://WWW.NISSANASSIST.COM/WEB/FUEL-SENDING-UNIT/INDEX.PHP?MENU=2). THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DID NOT ADVISE OWNERS TO REPLACE THE PROBLEM SENDING UNITS, IT JUST PROVIDED FOR REPAIRS IF AND WHEN, SUBJECT TO MILEAGE AND TIME LIMITS, THE VEHICLE MANIFESTED THE SENDING UNIT PROBLEM. MY LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE DEVELOPED THIS PROBLEM AT 46000 MILES, WELL UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY MILEAGE LIMIT BUT THE TIMING WAS BEYOND THE ARBITRARY EXTENDED TIME PERIOD. FOLLOWING MY OPENING A CASE WITH NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS THEY DENIED COVERAGE FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL SENDING UNIT AS IT WAS BEYOND THE ARBITRARY TIME LIMIT, ALTHOUGH WELL BELOW THE MILEAGE LIMIT. FAULTY FUEL QUANTITY READINGS ARE NOT JUST AN INCONVENIENCE. THEY CAN RESULT IN HAZARDOUS OVERFILLING OF FUEL TANKS (OR ATTEMPTS TO FILL AN ALREADY FILLED TANK) WHEN THE GAUGE ERRONEOUSLY READS EMPTY RESULTING IN FLAMMABLE GAS SPILLS, DIZZYING AND ENVIRONMENTALLY UNSOUND VAPOR EMISSIONS AT THE PUMP. ON THE FLIP SIDE WHEN THERE IS LITTLE OR NO FUEL IN THE TANK BUT THE GAUGE SHOWS SOME QUANTITY OF FUEL SUCH AS 1/4 TANK OR MORE, DRIVING OFF ON LONG COMMUTES OR TRIPS RESULTS IN RUNNING OUT OF GAS ON HIGHWAYS. IN MY CASE THIS IS IN RURAL AREAS OR BACK ROADS AND HIGHWAYS OUT OF CELL PHONE RANGE AND FAR FROM SERVICES, AND CAN OCCUR IN SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WAS DISPLAYING AN INCORRECT FUEL LEVEL READING. THE CHECK ENGINE WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL . THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE FUEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated she was able to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle stalled after driving 50 feet. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was also informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.

DEAR NHTSA, HOPE YOU ARE DOING WELL. THE REASON OF MY MESSAGE IS TO CALL TO YOUR ATTENTION AN ISSUE REGARDING NISSAN'S RADIATOR -TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED BEFORE BY OTHER NISSAN DRIVERS. I OWN A 2005 X-TERRA AND IT WASN'T UNTIL THIS YEAR THAT I HAD A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. IT STARTED EARLIER THIS YEAR WHEN MY CAR SIMPLY STALLED IN A PARKING LOT. AFTER SPENDING MORE THAN $200 IN TOWING PLUS $1500 IN FIXING THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. IN MAY, DRIVING BACK FROM TAMPA TO MIAMI, THE CAR STARTED TO ACT AGAIN BUT THEN IT WENT AWAY. ABOUT A MONTH AGO MY CAR HAD ANOTHER EPISODE OF 'LOOSING' POWER. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A NISSAN DEALER IN MIAMI FOR THEM TO TAKE A LOOK AND THEY SUGGESTED TAKING IT TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST AS THEIR PROTOCOL FOR CASES LIKE THIS CALLS FOR AN EXPENSIVE TRANSMISSION CHANGE. THE WEEKEND OF OCTOBER 7TH, I WAS HEADED TOWARDS MY PARENTS HOME AND MY CAR STALLED AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST IN CORAL SPRINGS AND $4,600 LATER, I HAVE A NEW TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR. HE GAVE ME THE EXPLANATION ABOUT THE RADIATOR LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION. MY BROTHER POINTED TO MY ATTENTION THAT THERE WAS SOME SORT OF SETTLEMENT WITH NISSAN REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE. 2005 NISSAN XTERRA - COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT APPROX. 102,000 MILES, CAUSED BY FAULTY RADIATOR THAT LEAKED WATER INTO THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH NISSAN KNEW ABOUT BUT REFUSED TO RECALL. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE ABOUT THE RADIATOR ISSUE FROM THE MANUFACTURER OR DEALER!! IT WOULD COST APPROX. $300 FOR NISSAN (OR THE CONSUMER) TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR, AS OPPOSED TO $3800 TO COMPLETELY REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION AND REPLACE THE RADIATOR UPON FAILURE; THEREFORE, NISSAN LET THEIR CUSTOMERS DRIVE DANGEROUS VEHICLES IN WHICH THE TRANSMISSION COULD - AND DID - FAIL AT ANY MOMENT. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WAS IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, STOPPED AT A LIGHT DOWNTOWN HEADED TO THE FREEWAY ENTRANCE RAMP. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I ACCELERATED AND THE ENGINE ROARED BENEATH MY FOOT. I COULD NOT EVEN TRAVEL THROUGH THE STOP LIGHT. THE XTERRA WOULD NOT GO FORWARD OR BACKWARD. HAD I MADE IT TO THE FREEWAY AND BEEN TRAVELING AT 50 - 60 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, AND ACCELERATED TO FIND I HAD NO POWER - NO ACCELERATION, I (AND OTHERS) COULD HAVE VERY EASILY BEEN INJURED OR KILLED. WHEN MY XTERRA WAS TOWED TO THE TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP, THEY WERE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THIS ISSUE AND INFORMED ME THAT A CLASS ACTION HAD BEEN FILED AND WON, (AND WAS ALREADY CONCLUDED) OVER THIS EXACT ISSUE; HOWEVER, THE CONSUMERS IN THE CLASS RECEIVED A VERY SMALL PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS (APPROX. $800 AT THE HIGH END). I AM CONTEMPLATING FILING AN ACTION IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT AGAINST NISSAN AND THE LOCAL DEALER IN JACKSON, MS, FROM WHOM I HAVE BOUGHT 3 SUVS IN THE PAST 20 YEARS. JUST PURCHASED 2 WKS AGO A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. AT FIRST THE FUEL GAUGE WAS SLOW TO SHOW THE FUEL LEVEL BUT IT SHOWED IF IT WAS HALF FULL OR CLOSE TO EMPTY. NOW JUST TWO DAYS AGO OUR DAUGHTER CALLED US SAYING SHE JUST FILLED THE VEHICLE WITH GAS AND THE FUEL GAUGE IS SHOWING IT IS COMPLETELY EMPTY - FUEL LIGHT IS ON. I HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THE INTERNET LOOKING AT HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND HOW COMMON OF A PROBLEM IT IS-WOW, ITS A SERIOUSLY COMMON PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS HAZARD FOR MY YOUNG TEENAGE DAUGHTER! MY 2005 NISSAN XTERRA HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. THE GAS GAUGE WILL READ AT A QUARTER OF A TANK, WHEN IN FACT THERE IS NO GAS AT ALL. IT SEEMS THIS OCCURS VERY OFTEN IS OTHER MODELS OLDER AND NEWER, HOWEVER THE WARRANTY IS ONLY COVERED UP TO 36000 MILES. IT SEEMS TO BE THAT MOST PEOPLE COME ACROSS THIS ISSUE WELL AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. I WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS MY SHAME WITH NISSAN FOR NOT BACKING THEIR PRODUCTS AND PUTTING DEALERSHIPS UNDER THE PRESSURE TO CHARGE CUSTOMERS TO REPLACE THESE FAULTY ITEMS, WHEN IT IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVIDE FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR CONSUMERS WITH RELIABLE PARTS. PLEASE HELP! MY FUEL SENSOR IS FAILING. MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON NOW AND THE REPAIR FOR THIS IS EXPENSIVE. I RECEIVED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY IN THE MAIL FOR 72,000 MILES FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I CALLED NISSAN DIRECTLY BECAUSE MY MILEAGE WAS PAST THIS AND THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON FAILURE IN XTERRAS AND THEY SAID THEY COULD DO NOTHING FOR ME. MY NISSAN XTERRA HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL GAUGE SENSOR. THE SENSOR READING COMES AND GOES AND I HAVE EVEN RAN OUT OF GAS ONCE. THERE WAS A RECALL OUT ON THIS FOR IMMEDIATE REPAIRS AND ONE THAT GAVE AN EXTENDED MILEAGE WARRANTY TO 72,000 MILES. I CALLED NISSAN IN MAY 2010, AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE STILL DEALING WITH GETTING THE CORRECT PART AND TO CALL BACK IN A FEW MONTHS. I WAS AROUND 66,000 MILES AT THAT TIME. I HAD A FRIEND AT WORK WHO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND HE HAD IT INTO THE DEALER 4 TIMES AND IT WASN'T UNTIL AROUND SEPTEMBER WHEN IT GOT FIXED WITH THE RIGHT PART. SO KNOWING THAT, THAT IS WHEN I CALLED IN SINCE I KNEW THEY HAD THE CORRECT PART. I TOOK IT IN FOR THE FUEL GAUGE AND FRONT CRASH SENSOR RECALLS, AND THEY ONLY FIXED THE ONE. NISSAN TOLD ME THAT THE FUEL GAUGE RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE WAS ONLY GOOD TIL 72,000 MILES, AND I WAS OVER THAT. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS FAIR SINCE I WAS TRYING TO GET IT FIXED AND I WAS UNDER THAT MILEAGE IN MAY, BUT WHILE WAITING ON NISSAN TO GET IT RIGHT, FROM MAY TO SEPTEMBER, I OBVIOUSLY PUT ON MORE MILES AND IT PUT ME OVER. ON 8/2542018 I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 NISSAN XTERRA DOWN A HIGHWAY IN THE SUBURBS OF PHOENIX, AZ AND WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY BEGAN TO JERK AND GO OUT OF GEAR AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THERE WAS NO WARNING ON MY DASH THAT WOULD TELL ME THERE WAS AN ISSUE AND I HAD TO WAIT IN THE CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS IN THE 105 DEGREE HEAT FOR A TOW TRUCK WITHOUT WATER. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD BEEN MIXING WITH MY COOLANT WHICH WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THAT YEAR AND NISSAN TRIED TO WIPE THIS UNDER THE RUG. I AM IN NEED OF AN ENTIRE NEW TRANSMISSION AND MY CAR HAS 82K MILES ON IT AND IS NOW 13 YEARS OLD. NISSAN AGREED TO PAY FOR THE COST FOR A PERIOD OF TIME BUT IF A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED, THIS PROBLEM COULD HAVE BEEN FIXED FOR UNDER "$150. YES IN THE 2005 NISSAN XTERRAS THERE IS NO FLOATING ARM DEVICE WITHIN THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. WHICH IS WHAT IS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HAVE THE FUEL GAUGE ON THE FRONT DASH PANEL TO READ INCORRECTLY TO THE ELECTRONIC SCREEN. IT ALSO DOESN'T REPORT YOUR DTE ON THE DASH PANEL BECAUSE THE FUEL SENDING UNIT HAS BEEN CORRODED, OR WAS MADE OF PLASTIC, AND HAS BEEN COMPLETELY DAMAGED. SO NOW WHEN THE VEHICLE SITS WHILE STARTED FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME THE FUEL GAUGE WILL GO TO EMPTY BUT REMAIN RUNNING, OR YOU COULD FILL YOUR VEHICLE UP ALL THE WAY WITH GAS, AND THEN WHEN YOU START THE XTERRA, THE VEHICLE WILL THEN SHOW EMPTY STILL UNTIL IT WAS AT 3 QUARTERS OF THE TANK, THEN IT WILL READ IT AT 3 QUARTERS OF A TANK UNTIL HALF A TANK. UNLESS THE VEHICLE SITS TO LONG WITHOUT MOVING, THEN VEHICLE WILL SHOW THE FUEL GAUGE ON THE FRONT DASH PANEL TO BE EMPTY. THIS IS UNSAFE BECAUSE IT WILL CAUSE NISSAN XTERRAS TO RUN OUT OF GAS ON THE ROAD WHICH COULD LEAD TO FRONT, SIDE, REAR, AND ROLLOVER CRASHES.

I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AS DESCRIBED IN RECALL #10V075000. THIS AFFECTED 2006 NISSAN XTERRAS, MINE IS A 2005. THE FUEL GAUGE DROPS TO EMPTY WHEN THE TANK IS FILLED, AFTER DRIVING AWHILE IT STARTS TO CLIMB BACK UP TO READ NEAR FULL, THEN IT WILL APPEARS TO DECREASE AS NORMAL, BUT YOU NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL IS ACTUALLY IN THE TANK, SO YOU HAVE TO BASE IT ON MILES TRAVELED. THE PROBLEM IS YOU NEVER KNOW IF THE STATION ATTENDANT (I LIVE IN OR SO YOU CAN'T FILL YOUR OWN VEHICLE WITH GAS) HAS ACTUALLY FILLED THE TANK OR DID IT CLICK OFF EARLY AGAIN, WHICH IT FREQUENTLY DOES. SO YOU CAN RUN OUT OF GAS EASILY, BECAUSE YOU HAVE A FUEL GAUGE THAT DOESN'T FUNCTION CORRECTLY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE ABOUT 2011, BUT I'M TIRED OF DEALING WITH IT. DON'T KNOW THE ACTUAL DATE WHEN THIS PROBLEM STARTED, BUT IT HAS BEEN ONGOING.

A CHECK OF THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (P0463) DISCLOSED A FAULTY FUEL LEVEL SENSOR "A" CIRCUIT HIGH. I HAD THE REPAIR DONE AT NISSAN. THE FEE FOR LABOR AND PARTS WAS $367.88. I SEE SEVERAL HUNDRED REGISTERED NHTSA COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE AS WELL AS HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AS THIS IS CLEARLY A DEFECTIVE PART. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE 2006 XTERRA FOR THE SAME ISSUE.

The front airbag crash sensor on my 2005 Nissan Xterra failed and is currently unavailable due to an extended backorder. Firestone Auto provided a work order confirming the need for replacement. The airbag warning light has been flashing continuously for the past four months, indicating a system malfunction. My advisor contacted Nissan dealers three times, and they confirmed the part remains on backorder. This ongoing issue poses a significant safety risk, particularly with the increased driving expected during the upcoming winter season. The sensor has not been replaced or inspected by Nissan, a technician, insurance representatives, or other parties. The part failure has been confirmed by Firestone, but not inspected directly by the manufacturer. I would love to have it solve so I can take my wife to DMV road test.

OF COURSE THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP IS GOING TO REPLACE ONLY THE ECM COMPONENT OF THE RECALL AND SAY IT WON'T AFFECT THE CATS, WHILE OTHER MECHANICS AT NON DEALER AFFILIATED SHOPS HAVE MORE THAN A FEW TIMES SAID IT CAN BE A DIRECT EFFECT OF THE ECM. AFTER MY "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT WAS ACTIVATED, I PROCEEDED TO TAKE MY NISSAN XTERRA TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN HAWTHORNE, CA, TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. NISSAN CHARGED ME $129 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, WHICH FOUND AN ERROR CODE OF P0463. THAT ERROR CODED INDICATED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR WAS MALFUNCTIONING. I DECLINED TO PAY $570 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. IN DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT SEVERAL NISSAN VEHICLES, ESPECIALLY ITS TRUCKS AND SUVS, HAVE SUFFERED FROM THIS PRODUCT DEFECT. The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact that while stopped at a traffic light the vehicle stalled. The contact was immediately able to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle kept stalling. The contact restarted the vehicle however while entering a parking garage the vehicle stalled again. After several attempts the vehicle restarted. The contact emphasized that the failure was most evident while stopped or driving at slower speeds. On one occasion the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. The contact connected a DTC scanner and retrieved a fault code regarding the fuel gauge sensor that was contacted to the submersible fuel pump. The contact stated that after removing the fuel tank from the vehicle and while changing the internal fuel tank submersible fuel pump, he became aware that the positive wire of the wiring harness on top of the fuel pump and the fuel pump housing above were both charred. The contact was concerned that excessive heating and sparking had caused the failure. The contact purchased a new fuel pump to replace the defective one. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

THERE WAS NO SPECIFIC EVENT LEADING UP TO FAILURE; I PURCHASED MY CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED '05 XTERRA 4 MONTHS AGO AND DROVE IT UP UNTIL YESTERDAY WITHOUT PROBLEM. WHEN I TURNED ON MY VEHICLE AFTER WORK, MY "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT WAS ON. I STOPPED TO FILL UP WITH GAS ON MY WAY HOME, AND NOTICED MY GAS GAUGE WOULD NOT PASS THE 3/4 TANK POSITION. THE CAR STOPPED RUNNING AT A STOP LIGHT. THE FAILURE IS A KNOWN RECALL BY NISSAN IN MODEL OF 2005 XTERRA - IT IS THE RECALL FROM 2010 FOR THE ECM (ENGINE CONTROL MODULE). THE PROBLEM STARTED AFTER A WEEKEND ON NON-USE WHEN MY BATTERY WAS DEAD ON MONDAY 11-3-2014. THEN AFTER KEEPING THE CAR RUNNING WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF A BATTERY BOX AND TRAVELING SHORT WAY TO WORK I HAD THE BATTERY EVALUATED AT AUTOZONE AND REPLACED ON MONDAY NIGHT, 11-10-2014. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY CONFIRM THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE, BUT THEY FLAT OUT REFUSED THE CONTAMINATION, INSTEAD OFFER TO REPLACE BOTH TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR FOR $5,500 TO AVOID FUTURE PROBLEMS. I WAS NOT CONVINCED. IMMEDIATELY, ANOTHER GUY IN THE DEALERSHIP OFFERS TO TRADE IN FOR A NEW CAR. I TOOK THE CAR OUT AND WENT TO ANOTHER TRANSMISSION SHOP. FIRST PROBLEM - WHEN I HAD 53,000 MI ON IT, IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, IT STARTED CUTTING OUT AND WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AT ALL, HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER TO FIND OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS BAD. THEY SAID THAT HE RADIATOR LEAKED, FLOODING MY TRANSMISSION WITH COOLANT AND RUINED MY TRANSMISSION. THEY REFUSED TO HONOR THE WARRANTY STATING THAT "THE TRANMISSION DID NOT FAIL - THE RADIATOR DID (WHICH WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY) THEREFORE THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT COVERED". I HAD TO LET THEM REPLACE THE RADIATOR AND FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION 3 TIMES - IT COST ME $1,400 OUT OF POCKET - NOW HERE I AM 30,000 MILES LATER AND MY REVERSE WILL NOT WORK AT ALL, MY TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACED. SO I HAD PAID 1,400 JUST TO BUY MYSELF AN YEAR & A HALF AND NOW I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. 2ND PROBLEM - I HAVE THE FUEL GAUGE/SENSOR PROBLEM, ALSO. I FILLED UP ONE DAY, GOT IN MY CAR AND GAUGE READ EMPTY & CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I HAD A RIP-OFF MECHANIC CHARGE ME $170 TO REPLACE THE SENSOR - NOTHING EVER CHANGED, GAUGE IS STILL BROKE AND LIGHT IS STILL ON. I NOTICED THAT THE REAR VIEW MIRROR WAS WOBBLING SIDE TO SIDE WHILE DRIVING. AT A STOP LIGHT I ATTEMPTED TO ADJUST IT. WHEN I TOUCHED IT THE REAR VIEW MIRROR DETACHED FROM THE WINDSHIELD. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THAT THE ADHESIVE HAD FAILED, BUT UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, I FOUND THAT THE GLASS ITSELF HAD CHIPPED OUT. THIS REAR VIEW MIRROR IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ELECTRONIC COMPASS SO IT HAS AN ELECTRICAL CORD. I HAD TO DRIVE FOR SEVERAL MINUTES WITH THE MIRROR SWINGING FROM THIS CORD. AT THE NEXT STOP LIGHT I WAS ABLE TO DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CORD AND TAKE THE MIRROR DOWN COMPLETELY. SO THERE IS A HUNK OF GLASS STILL STUCK TO THE MIRROR MOUNT AND A CRATER IN THE WINDSHIELD WHERE THIS HUNK OF GLASS USED TO BE. THE CRATER IS APPROXIMATELY 1.5" LONG BY 1" WIDE BY 0.093" DEEP. THIS OCCURRED IN A NISSAN XTERRA SE EQUIPPED WITH A ROCKFORD FOSGATE SOUND SYSTEM WITH SUBWOOFER. WHEN THE SUBWOOFER IS IN USE AT HIGH VOLUMES THE REAR VIEW MIRROR DOES EXPERIENCE SIGNIFICANT VIBRATION. AS AN ENGINEER, MY CONCERN WITH THIS FAILURE IS THAT DURING A CRASH IF THE REAR VIEW MIRROR DETACHES IT BECOMES A PROJECTILE AND HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE INJURY TO PASSENGERS. I PURCHASED AN 05 XTERRA IN SEPTEMBER. AT ABOUT 6,000 MILES IT DEVELOPED A SQUEAK IN THE FRONT END. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES AND THE LAST TIME THEY WERE ABLE TO LOCATE THE NOISE AND STOP IT. I ASKED THE SERVICE WRITER WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND SHE TOLD ME I DIDN'T WANT TO KNOW. I PUSHED FOR AN ANSWER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WAS NOT WELDED, CAUSING THE METAL TO RUB TOGETHER AND SQUEAK. I WAS STARTING TO DRIVE MY NISSAN XTERRA 2005 AND HEARD A NOISE LIKE METALLIC RATTLING. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THE TRANSMISSION OIL IS MIXED WITH COLAND FLUID. I WAS TOLD, TO FIX WILL COST $5000 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND THE RADIATOR AND COOLING SYSTEM. IN THE INTERNET I FOUND OUT MANY COMPLAINS ABOUT NISSAN'S CARS FOR THIS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION AS A RESULT OF THE DEFECTIVE CAR. NCCC (NORTH CAROLINA CONSUMER COUNCIL) HAS RECEIVED A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FROM CONSUMERS IN REGARDS TO SUDDEN, CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURES IN 2005-2010 NISSAN PATHFINDER, FRONTIER AND XTERRA VEHICLES. ALL OF THE VEHICLES EXPERIENCING THESE FAILURES ARE NOT WITHIN THE TIME PERIOD SPECIFIED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT ARE OFTEN BEYOND THE MILEAGE LIMIT. SO, WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR SOMEBODY (NISSAN) MISTAKES AND NEVER TRY TO CORRECT THEM? I NEVER GET FROM NISSAN AN ADVISE ON THIS POTENTIAL FAILURE OF MY CAR. IF YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM OR NO SOMEONE THAT HAS, FILE THE COMPLAINT. ALSO CALL THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION AND FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST NISSAN. WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED, BUT THERE IS NO WAY TO CHECK FOR THIS PROBLEM. IF WE HAD KNOWN THE PROBLEM EXISTED, I ASSURE YOU WE WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. IF I KNEW THERE WAS A POTENTIAL PROBLEM AFTER WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, WE COULD HAVE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION COOLANT RADIATOR WITH THE SAFER REPLACEMENT TYPE TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON A LOCAL ROAD NEAR HOME AT NIGHT. HE WAS ACCELERATING UP A SMALL GRADE, WHEN HE SAID THE CAR ACTED AS IF IT HAD POPPED OUT OF GEAR. IT BEGAN TO REV HIGHER AND MADE A HIGHER PITCHED SOUND. HE TRIED CHANGING FROM BEING IN "DRIVE" TO A LOWER GEAR, BUT IT STILL DID NOT ENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION. HE HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO BE ABLE TO COAST ONTO OUR SIDE STREET AND PARK THE CAR. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, BUT HE WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED AS HIS CAR SLOWED SUDDENLY AND TRAFFIC RAN UP ON HIM. THE CAR WOULD NOT START, NOR TURN OVER AT THAT POINT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER. THEY MENTIONED IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR AND IT WOULD COST OVER 5K FOR JUST A NEW TRANSMISSION, NOT INCLUDING A NEW RADIATOR OR LABOR TO INSTALL BOTH. I WAS ABLE TO FIND ANOTHER MECHANIC THAT PURCHASED A REBUILT TRANSMISSION, BUT THE WHOLE THING STILL COST OVER 5K TO HAVE THE REBUILT TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR INSTALLED WITH NO ASSURANCE THAT IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS IS A WELL DOCUMENTED ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES AND CONTINUES TO COST PEOPLE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR A VERY POOR AND DANGEROUS DESIGN.

CONFIRMED DIAGNOSES OF VEHICLE DAMAGE OF RADIATOR ASSEMBLY & TRANSMISSION ARE DUE TO NISSAN'S DEFECTIVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY WHICH ALLOWS COOLANT TO PASS THROUGH INTO THE TRANSMISSION RENDERING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO OPERATE. NISSAN IS UNWILLING TO ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS OF DAMAGE CAUSED BY DEFECT. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, A DAMAGED TRANSMISSION DUE TO COOLANT ENTERING IT HAS RENDERED THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE, A KNOWN DEFECT, YET THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT EVEN COMPROMISE TO ASSIST WITH REPAIR OF THIS DEFECT. A MANUFACTURER SHOULD ASSIST WITH REPAIR OF ANY DEFECT THAT RENDERS THE EQUIPMENT UNSAFE TO OPERATE - NO MATTER WHEN THAT DEFECT DECIDES TO SHOW UP! NISSAN SHOULD ASSIST IN ALL REPAIRS DUE TO THEIR KNOWN DEFECT TO LET THE CONSUMER OPERATE THE VEHICLE IN SAFETY.

WHEN I DROVE IT TO WORK, THERE WERE A FEW DELAYS WHILE SHIFTING GEARS. AFTER HALF HOUR DRIVING IT, I HEARD WATER SPLASHING SOUNDS. I TURNED OFF THE RADIO AND I HEARD THE SPLASHING SOUNDS EVEN MORE CLEAR. IN THE SAME TIME, I SMELLED ELECTRONIC BURNT LIKE SMELLS. SINCE I WAS ON THE EXPRESS WAY, I COULDN'T STOP RIGHT AWAY. THEN, 15 MINUTES LATER OR A TOTAL OF 45 MINUTES DRIVING IT, THERE WERE SMOKES FROM THE FRONT. I WAS SO SHOCK AND WORRY IF THE CAR WAS GOING TO BLOW UP. I FELT PANIC BECAUSE I COULDN'T JUST STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DRIVING LANES. THANKFULLY, OTHER CARS SLOWED DOWN FOR ME AND LET ME PASSED. I PULLED UP IN THE NEARBY DAIRY DEPOT'S PARKING LOT, BUT I WAS 20 MINUTES AWAY FROM MY WORKPLACE'S CITY. IT WAS SO COLD AND WINDY, BUT SINCE I WAS WORRY IF THE CAR WOULD BLOW UP, I GOT OUT AND STOOD IN THE COLD. ALSO, THE TOW TRUCK WAS DELAYED FOR 2 HOURS AND I HAD TO MISSED WORK. THE CAR SHOP TOLD ME THAT THE RADIATOR CAUSES THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND ALL FLUIDS ARE MIXED TOGETHER. WHEN I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAD THE SAME ISSUE. I AM SHOCKED THAT IT'S VERY COMMON. I FEEL SO DISCOURAGE TO EVER TRUST NISSAN AGAIN. THIS CAR WAS MY INVESTMENT AS I HAVE $7000 LOAN REMAINING ON IT AND I JUST FIXED ALL FOUR SHAFTS FOR $1000. I HAVE ALWAYS DONE COMPREHENSIVE MAINTENANCE TO IT. SO, WHERE DID I GO WRONG? HOW CAN NISSAN DOES THIS? THE LICENSE PLATE LIGHTS ON THE 2005 & 2006 XTERRA ARE KNOWN TO CRACK AND MELT CAUSING FAILURES. REPLACING THE BULB WILL NOT LAST DUE TO THE CRACKED HOUSINGS. NISSAN IS NO LONGER PRODUCING THESE LIGHTS. THE LIGHTS WERE REDESIGNED FOR 2007. IN ORDER TO USE THE NEW STYLE LIGHTS, YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE REAR BUMPER FOR THE LIGHTS TO FIT. THE REAR BUMPER COSTS $683.20 FOR THE PART ALONE. THE LIGHTING IS $40.20. YOU WOULD HAVE SPEND CLOSE TO $1000 IN PARTS AND LABOR FOR WORKING LICENSE PLATE LIGHTS THAT ARE FACTORY. I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra. I am the original owner and have been driving it over 16 years. Two years ago, in 2020 while driving my car on the road and with kids inside (with a 1 year old and a 6 year old child), the car began to shake and turned off (we were stranded in the middle of the road, at a traffic light). Since it was my only means of transportation I kept driving it (no kids inside anymore--which was another HUGE inconvenience having to coordinate and at times pay for babysitters). During my continued usage, it will continue to fail to accelerate causing great danger on the freeway and or on public roads. After a while, I managed to drive it to a transmission shop, who told me they had to either hold onto the car or have it towed--as it was deemed unsafe to drive. Upon inspection, the transmission shop confirmed "coolant bypassed into transmission," among other issues (vehicle does not accelerate, chick engine light is on, etc.) I paid with credit card, $4359.34. Once paid and transmission shop fixed issue, I continued to drive the car with family inside. Now two years later July 2022--I am experiencing the same "vehicle does not accelerate" issue.

MY 16 YEAR SON WAS DRIVING HOME AT 11:00 PM ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN, WITH NO WARNING, THE CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION POWER. HE WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON AND GOT IT INTO 3RD GEAR. IT WOULD NOT WORK IN DRIVE. HE PROCEEDED VERY SLOWLY FOR A SHORT DISTANCE UNTIL HE WOULD LOSE ACCELERATION POWER. HE HAD TO CONTINUE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON THE HIGHWAY MULTIPLE TIMES TO GET IT HOME THAT EVENING. HE CONTINUED VERY SLOWLY WITH HIS FLASHING LIGHTS ON. IT SUBSEQUENTLY HAD TO BE TOWED. THANKFULLY, IT DID NOT RESULT IN A CRASH ON THE INTERSTATE. THE CAR IS BLACK AND IT WAS VERY DARK. IT WOULD'VE BEEN VERY DIFFICULT FOR SOMEONE IMMEDIATELY BEHIND HIM TO REACT ON THE INTERSTATE. MY SON'S SAFETY WAS SEVERELY COMPROMISED. THE PROBLEM TURNED OUT TO BE THE RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION PROBLEM NISSAN IS ALREADY BEING INVESTIGATED FOR (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER DP12004). IT REQUIRED A NEW RADIATOR, A NEW TRANSMISSION AND A NEW TRANSMISSION COMPUTER AS THIS WAS ALL RUINED WITH THE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE RADIATOR. THE COST OF REPAIRS WAS $4632.97 INCLUDING THE TOW CHARGE. NISSAN HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM FOR QUITE SOME TIME AND EVEN SETTLED A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THIS VERY ISSUE A FEW YEARS AGO. HAD THEY VOLUNTARILY RECALLED THE VEHICLE AND FIXED THE PROBLEM, MY SON WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN PUT IN THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION AND THE COSTS WOULD HAVE BEEN MINIMIZED. I DESIRE FOR NISSAN TO BE HELD LIABLE FOR THIS - YOU HAVE RECEIVED LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF THE VERY SAME COMPLAINT. IN MARCH 2012 MY 2005 NISSAN XTERRA WAS APPROXIMATELY 91,000 WHEN DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN RUMBLE CAUSING ME TO SWERVE AND IMMEDIATELY REDUCE SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER WITHOUT ANY INCIDENT. AFTER TAKING MY CAR TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE I REGULARLY SERVICE MY CAR. I OWN A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. MY PROBLEM STARTED WITH THE FUEL LEVELING SYSTEM AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. IT WAS THE FUEL LEVELING SENDER. MY FUEL WAS NOT REGISTERING CORRECTLY AT ALL. NEXT CAME STALLING OF MY SUV. I WOULD BE DRIVING AND IT WOULD ACT AS IF IT WAS RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND CUT OFF. THAT TURN OUT TO BE THE EMC, IN WHICH I PAID FOR BUT WAS REIMBURSE BECAUSE NISSAN ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE EMC. THIS DID NOT FIX THE FUEL LEVELING SENDER PROBLEM. A FEW MONTHS LATER, MY SUV WAS HAVING A "HARD CRANK". IT JUST DID NOT WANT TO TURN OVER. IT WOULD STALL WHILE DRIVING. I WOULD JUST CUT OFF. I TOOK THAT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE CAM SENSORS. SO, I HAD THE CAM SENSORS REPLACED AND I HAD THE FUEL LEVEL SENDER REPLACED. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT I HAVE A MULT-POINT INSPECTION, SO I HAD EVERYTHING WITH THAT REPLACE. I SPENT A $1000, ONLY FOR MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME BACK ON THE NEXT DAY. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO TELL ME NOW IT IS THE CATALYST CONVERTERS AND BOTH NEEDS TO BE REPLACE. THE PRICE FOR BOTH PARTS ALONE WAS $1300. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY SO MANY XTERRA OWNERS ARE HAVING THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS AND NISSAN ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING THEM. THEY WILL OFFER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AFTER THE FACT, BUT BY THE TIME THE PROBLEM OCCUR A 2005 DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. HELLO: I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA SUV. THE ROCKFORD-FOSGATE CD-PLAYER EXCHANGER IS MALFUNCTIONING WITH THE CD'S STALLED IN THE CD PLAYER ITSELF. I HAD SERVICED THE VEHICLE AT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR AN OIL CHANGE, HOWEVER, WHEN THE SERVICE HAD BEEN COMPLETED, THE CD-PLAYER DID NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY AND I HAD LET THE DEALERSHIP KNOWN OF THE ISSUE. UNFORTUNATELY, THEY HAD STATED THAT THE CD-PLAYER COULD NOT HAVE MAL-FUNCTIONED DUE TO AN OIL CHANGE VISIT AND HAD BEEN INFORMED THAT THESE TYPES OF EQUIPMENTS ARE ELECTRONIC DEVICES AND THEY HAVE A TENDENCY TO 'ACT UP'. *** IPDM AND DOUBLE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE IN 2005 NISSAN XTERRA *** MY 2005 NISSAN XTERRA ENGINE ONCE SHUT DOWN AS I AM DRIVING ON A BUSY STREET; I HAD TO LET THE XTERRA COAST A SHORT DISTANCE WITHOUT POWER TO PULL OVER AND STOP MY SUV TO THE SIDE OF A SAFER SECTION OF THE ROAD. I COULD NOT IMMEDIATELY RESTART THE CAR. AFTER WAITING ABOUT 15 MINUTES, I WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO RESTART AND DRIVE THE SUV. THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER NEVER WENT AWAY. PERIODICALLY THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. IT FINALLY GOT TO THE POINT WHERE THE CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TWICE, INCLUDING A TOW TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN SANTA MONICA. THE INCIDENT BEGAN IN APRIL 2010. IN MAY 2010, THE NISSAN DEALER IN SANTA MONICA CHECKED THE PROBLEM AND INDICATED THAT THE IPDM HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR. SHORTLY AFTER THE IPDM WAS REPLACED, 1 OF 2 CATALYTIC CONVERTERS IN THE XTERRA FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. 6 MONTHS LATER (DECEMBER 2010), THE OTHER CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED. I BELIEVE THE IPDM ISSUE IS SEVERE. I BELIEVE THE IPDM ISSUE IS ALSO ASSOCIATED WITH (AND LIKELY TO BE THE CAUSE OF) THE FAILURE OF CATALYTIC CONVERTERS IN THE VEHICLE. The vehicle stalled with the accelerator pedal depressed. The contact stated that the vehicle moved forward and stopped suddenly intermittently. On another occasion, the A/C became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and unknown repairs were performed. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was not insured due to the several failures, and the not being able to be repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23E012000 (AIR BAGS). The vehicle was not repaired for the recent failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Bought vehicle from used from private owner a year ago and noticed less then two weeks later while driving including on the freeway the engine just turns off with no steering control, almost no brake control, and sometimes takes a few minutes to start up again just to get out of the way of other vehicles. Now it’s overheating and leaking coolant on front passenger side floor along with the ground now shutting off more frequently . Also shortly after I bought the vehicle I could hear squeaking noises from under vehicle while driving over the smallest bump and every turn and is so loud it’s heard from 2 small streets away and feels like any second the body might separate from the wheels. I’m not sure about the rest.

MY DAUGHTER HAD JUST PURCHASED A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA, THE DAY BEFORE HER ACCIDENT. SHE WAS TRAVELING ON A ROADWAY APPROACHING A CURVE IN THE ROAD WHEN THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE LOCKED UP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULL SLIGHTLY RIGHT AND FAIL TO RESPOND TO COUNTER STEER. THE RADIATOR, TRANSMISSION AND TRANS COMPUTER WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $4500. HE ALSO MENTIONED THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT BUT WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR UNDER A RECALL OR WARRANTY. I TOOK THE SUV FOR A SECOND OPINION TO A REPUTABLE REPAIR SHOP. A LEAK IN THE RADIATOR HAS ALLOWED COOLANT TO MIX WITH AND CONTAMINATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID, RESULTING IN DAMAGED INTERNAL TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS AND A DAMAGED INTERNAL TRANSMISSION COMPUTER. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA WHICH OVER THE YEARS MY ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON FOR ALL PERIODS OF TIME AND THEN GO OFF. THE FIRST TIME IT CAME ON I RAN TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I COULD NOT AFFORD TO BE BROKE DOWN. NO DIAGNOSIS WAS FOUND (PHANTOM LIGHT - $300 TO TELL NO THERE WAS NO PROBLEM) SO AFTER THAT I DID NOT RUN TO THE DEALER EVERYTHING THE LIGHT COME ONE WHICH WAS MOST OF THE TIME. STARTING IN JANUARY 2012 MY 2005 XTERRA WOULD SEEM TO HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME CHANGING OVER AT CERTAIN SPEEDS ESPECIALLY 40-45 AND 55-60 MPH. I MAINLY DRIVE HIGHWAY SO I KNEW THIS WAS NOT NORMAL FOR MY CAR. SINCE THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING AND I HAD A STATE INSPECTION COMING UP IN MARCH-APRIL 2012 I WANTED TO WAIT BECAUSE I CANNOT BE WITHOUT A CAR. THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON FROM JANUARY UNTIL APRIL WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP. FINALLY IN EARLY APRIL 2012 I REALIZED THAT THE HEATS WAS NOT WORKING. AT THE APRIL 10, 2012 INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW RADIATOR ($999.45). THEY TOLD ME THE RADIATOR LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSIONS BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CAR SEEMED TO WORK FINE AFTER THE REPAIR, NO DIFFICULTLY CHANGING OVER AT CERTAIN SPEEDS UNTIL OCTOBER 18, 012 WHEN I LEFT WORK AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. AAA CAME AND TRIED TO JUMP IT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION FLUIDS HAD MIXED ERRONEOUSLY AND BOTH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE RADIATOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE BELT TENSION SENSOR WOULD ALSO NEED TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED OUR 2005 NISSAN XTERRA, 17 MILES YOUNG. EXACTLY ONE MONTH AFTER WE PURCHASED, THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WENT OUT AND WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. ON OR ABOUT MAY 14TH 2011 I OBSERVE FLUID LEAKING FROM MY NISSAN 2005 XTERRA. I SOUGHT PROFESSIONAL ADVICE. IT WAS MANDATORY THAT I REPLACE THE RADIATOR, THERMOSTAT AND FLUSH THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION. IT BECAME VERY APPARENT THAT THIS WAS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. I THEN CONTACT FIVE TOWNS NISSAN, WHO INDICATED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY (80,000). I DID RECEIVE AN UNDATED 'WARRANT NOTIFICATION' FROM NISSAN NORTH AMERICA INC WHICH DID COMPROMISE ANY EXTENDED WARRANTY ESPECIALLY IF IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. NISSAN NORTH AMERICA INC DID ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT ON THE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY THAT WILL CAUSE LEAKAGE OF THE ENGINE COOLANT (ANTIFREEZE) TO MIX WITH THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO BE REBUILT. THIS WILL COST OVER $6,000.00 TO REPAIR. WHAT BECAME OBVIOUSLY SUSPICIOUS IS THAT NISSAN SENT THE 'WARRANT NOTIFICATION' AFTER THE FACT KNOWING THAT ALL AND OR MOST OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES WERE OUT OF WARRANTY. IT BECAME APPARENT THAT NISSAN WAS FULLY AWARE OF THE DEFECTS, HENCE, BEING LIABLE FOR THEIR NEGLIGENCE. AMIDST ALL THE COMPLAINTS NISSAN REFUSE TO RECALL AND OR FIX THE DEFECTS. SECONDLY, I DO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE EMISSION SYSTEM OF THE SAID NISSAN 2005 XTERRA, OF WHICH, I DID REPORTED TO NISSAN. IN JUNE 2009 IT WAS DETERMINE UPON PAID INSPECTION BY NISSAN SERVICE CENTER, THAT BOTH #1 AND #2 CATALYTIC CONVERTOR, FUEL LEVEL SENSOR AND GAS GAUGE WERE ALL DEFECTIVE. I HAD THE GAUGE REPLACE, BUT BOTH #1 AND #2 CATALYTIC CONVERTOR, FUEL LEVEL SENSOR WILL COST OVER $4,000.00 TO REPAIR. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA 4-WHEEL DRIVE. WHILE DRIVING IT IN SNOW, ICE, WET ROADS OR SIMPLY STOPPING QUICKLY, I HEAR A HORRIBLE GRINDING NOISE FROM THE FRONT END. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. IT SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRAS, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER!! WHY WAIT FOR ACCIDENTS AND POSSIBLE DEATHS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PROBLEM LIES IN AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE VEHICLE. COST OF REPAIR RANGES FROM $300-600. *TR

THE ANCHOR PINS FOR THE ASSIST CYLINDERS ON THE REAR HATCH ARE RUSTING BADLY. I'VE TOLD MY WIFE NOT TO OPEN THE HATCH UNTIL THE DEALER CAN GET IN NEW PARTS WE ORDERED. WE ASKED THE DEALER IS THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM AND THEY SAID NO. SINCE WE DID NOT BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND MILEAGE IS 86000 THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I CONTACTED NISSAN USA AND GOT THE SAME ANSWER. THE REAR HATCH IS MADE FROM METAL AND IS HEAVY. IF ONE OF THESE RUSTY PINS FAILS THE HATCH WILL FALL ON SOMEONE'S HEAD. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL TO CHECK THE PINS FOR RUSTING AND REPLACED IF THEY ARE RUSTED. THE NEW PARTS ARE REDESIGNED AND I WONDER WHY THE PART WAS REDESIGNED? 2005 WAS THE FIRST YEAR OF THIS BODY STYLE SO THERE MAY HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS IN SOME OF THE COMPONENTS USED ON THIS VEHICLE.
