TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 15 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER RIVERSIDE NISSAN (8330 INDIANA AVE, RIVERSIDE, CA 92504) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE RAN OUT OF FUEL AND THE FUEL GAUGE FAILED TO INDICATE THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED FUEL. THE FUEL TANK WAS REPLENISHED, BUT THE FUEL GAUGE STILL DID NOT DISPLAY THE CORRECT FUEL LEVEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. FUEL SENDING UNIT IS FAULTY, CAUSING TRUCK TO STALL ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY TWICE WITH NO WARNING (WHILE SHOWING THERE WAS STILL GAS, BUT TANK EMPTY). DRIVING WITH MY 5 YEAR OLD SON AND ALMOST BEING CRASHED INTO BECAUSE OF THIS HAZARD. NISSAN HAD A RECALL OUT ON FEW VIN #'S IN WHICH MINE WAS SUPPOSEDLY NOT INCLUDED. NISSAN SAYS THEY ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WHICH SEEMS TO BE COMMON WITH THIS VEHICLE WHEN I LOOK IT UP. THE REPAIR COSTS AROUND $600 TO FIX. MY TRUCK HAS FAILED INSPECTION BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE, SO NOW IN ORDER FOR ME TO DRIVE AND NOT BE PULLED OVER, I HAVE TO SOMEHOW GATHER $600 TOGETHER TO FIX THIS. I'M A SINGLE PARENT WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX THIS, AND AS I SEE ALL OVER THE INTERNET, MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THIS SAME PART MULTIPLE TIMES ON THE SAME VEHICLE. ON 5/19/2010 THE NHTSA AND NISSAN ISSUED A RECALL CAMPAIGN BULLETIN #NTB10-031A COVERING CERTAIN NISSAN VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 2006 AND 2008. THE RECALL WAS TO ADDRESS A POTENTIAL FUEL GAUGE ACCURACY. SPECIFICALLY, THE ISSUE CAN CAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE TO SHOW THE VEHICLE STILL HAS FUEL WHEN THE TANK IS ACTUALLY EMPTY. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE VEHICLE SHUTTING DOWN, RENDERING POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES AND OTHER VEHICLE SYSTEMS INOPERABLE OR WHERE PERFORMANCE MAY BE GREATLY REDUCED, WHICH AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS COULD CAUSE OF LOSS OR CONTROL OR ACCIDENT. MY 2005 NISSAN TITAN WAS RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND WAS IN FACT IMPACTED WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I WAS FORTUNATELY ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOP AND THE VEHICLE WAS FIXED UNDER AN IDENTICAL RECALL. IN JULY 2014, WHEN MY SON'S 2006 NISSAN XTERRA BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE SIMILAR SYMPTOMS. I CONTACTED NISSAN TO CONFIRM THAT VEHICLES INCLUSION IN THE AFOREMENTIONED CAMPAIGN. I SPOKE TO [XXX] AND OPENED CASE [XXX]. [XXX] INSTRUCTED ME TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP (WHICH I DID), BUT SHE SUBSEQUENTLY DENIED COVERAGE UNDER THE RECALL STATING THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. SHE STATED THAT NOT ALL VEHICLES FOR THAT MODEL YEAR WERE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT RATHER WERE OFFERED EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THE SPECIFIC PART WHICH MY VEHICLE WAS NOW BEYOND. THIS WAS NOT STATED IN THE CAMPAIGN NOTICE - I REQUESTED SHE ESCALATE MY CONCERN TO A SUPERVISOR. A WEEK LATER I WAS CONTACTED BY [XXX] (NO LAST NAME GIVEN) FROM NISSAN. [XXX] CONTRADICTED WHAT I HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN TOLD BY STATING THAT ALL MODEL YEAR 2006 XTERRAS WERE ONLY GIVEN EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE (I'M NOT SURE IF [XXX] OR [XXX] WERE AT THIS POINT LYING TO ME) AND THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT RECONSIDER MY REQUEST FOR COVERAGE. The transmission was destroyed because a factory default with the radiator leaking antifreeze and transmission fluid into the transmission causing my transmission to self destruct. my safety was not safe since Nissan knew about the defect and I could have ceased into Anything at any time. There was no warning lights it just self destruct. Nissan has done nothing to inspect their failure. It is a well known problem.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AND INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT COOLANT HAD LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED DUE TO THE COOLANT CONTAMINATION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. NEITHER A DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED OR NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,000.

I WAS REQUIRED TO REPLACE THE OEM RADIATOR DUE TO APPEARANCE OF CROSS-CONTAMINATION BETWEEN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID AND ENGINE COOLANT. THE DISCOVERY WAS MADE EARLY ENOUGH TO AVOID BEING STRANDED. IT IS UNKNOWN WHETHER THE AMOUNT OF CONTAMINATION THAT PRECEDED THE REPLACEMENT HAS CAUSED PERMANENT DAMAGE, BUT THE VEHICLE IS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY AS OF THIS MOMENT. I AM AWARE THAT NISSAN HAS BEEN CHALLENGED ON THE TOPIC OF EXTENDED WARRANTY SUPPORT AND/OR RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE OVER A SPAN OF YEARS, AND THIS REPORT IS FILED TO ADD A DATA POINT.

I PURCHASED A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA WITH 36K MILES. MAY 15TH, 2009. I CURRENTLY HAVE 112K MILES ON IT AND HAVE A NOT START A/T CONT FUSE BLOWN ISSUE. MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON AND TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THERE WAS A CODE STATING A SPEED DIFFERENTIAL BETWEEN THE FRONT AND REAR OF THE TRANSMISSION. SOON AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION, MY MECHANIC VERIFIED RADIATOR FLUID LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND I WILL NEED TO REPLACE BOTH MY RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION TO THE APPROX COST OF $5500. NEEDLESS TO SAY, NOT ONLY IS THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED, BUT I WILL HAVE TO PAY THE FULL AMOUNT OF THE REPAIR OUT OF POCKET SINCE THE LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST NISSAN CONCERNING THIS ISSUE EXPIRED IN 2013. BUYER BEWARE!!! BE CAREFUL IF YOU PURCHASE A NISSAN XTERRA FROM 2005-2010 UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO FORK OUT MORE MONEY THAN EXPECTED TO PAY FOR A DEFECT THAT NISSAN KNEW ABOUT BUT WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT.

I PURCHASED A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA AFTER-MARKET IN AUGUST 2019, MILEAGE 144K. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM DURING A TEST-DRIVE, AND IT OTHERWISE APPEARED TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION. THREE DAYS LATER, DURING CITY DRIVING, THE CAR BEGAN TO STRAIN TO ENTER FIRST GEAR FROM A STOPPED POSITION (STOP SIGN, TRAFFIC LIGHT), FIRST A LITTLE, AND THEN SIGNIFICANTLY, AND BEGAN OBSTRUCTING TRAFFIC-FLOW, AND BEGAN OVERHEATING AFTER MULTIPLE STOP/STARTS. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME (4 MILES) WITHOUT HAVING TO PULL OVER AND CALL A TOW-TRUCK. A TRIP TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP ON THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY CONFIRMED NOT JUST A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, BUT WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO A KNOWN DEFECT IN NISSAN SUV-TYPE VEHICLES FROM THIS TIME-PERIOD. THE CAR FROM THE USED DEALER CAME WITH "CAR PROTECTION PLUS" COVERAGE SPECIFICALLY FOR POWER-TRAIN ISSUES, WHO DENIED THAT THEY WOULD COVER THIS PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION PROBLEM FOR THIS REASON. I NOW OWN A VERY EXPENSIVE PAPERWEIGHT, OR PAY A REPAIR BILL OF $3K-$4K TO FIX A TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR THAT IS MORE THAN THE VALUE OF THE CAR.

Engine noise: - Noise coming from time belt support - The timing chain guide wore out fast. - Timing chain guide inner plastic wore out causing chain to rely metal bracket then the metal causing noise and eventually break the the timing chain.

My engine self destruct because Nissan used cheap made plastic tensioners that shredded metal into my engine causing it to self destruct. Nissan knew about this problem and continued installing these tensioners from 2005-2015. I could have crashed into anything while driving or someone could have hit me if my engine would’ve died while driving. My safety was not prioritized by Nissan. The warning light was a whining noise coming from the engine while startup and pressing on the gas pedal. So they knew the problem existed but didn’t care.

THIS VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED WITH PLASTIC TENSIONER GUIDES TO THE SECONDARY TIMING CHAINS. THE ENGINE IS DESIGNED WITH AN "INTERFERENCE" TIMING CHAIN WHICH MEANS THAT IF THE TIMING CHAIN BREAKS, IT RESULTS IN CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING. ALTHOUGH NISSAN DID NOT DESIGN THE TIMING CHAIN AS A MAINTENANCE ITEM, THE PLASTIC GUIDES WEAR OUT LONG AFTER THE VEHICLE WARRANTY EXPIRES. ALTHOUGH THEY CORRECTED THE PROBLEM IN SUBSEQUENT MODEL YEARS, THEY NEVER CONTACTED OR NOTIFIED THE AFFECTED OWNERS OF THE PROBLEM THAT UNLESS THESE GUIDES ARE REPLACED THEY WILL EVENTUALLY RESULT IN THE SECONDARY TIMING CHAINS WEARING OUT THE GUIDES CAUSING THE SECONDARY CHAINS THEMSELVES TO RUN METAL ON METAL AGAINST THE TENSIONERS. BECAUSE OF THIS CONTINUED WEAR, THE SECONDARY TIMING CHAINS MAY FAIL AT ANY TIME THE ENGINE IS ON WITHOUT WARNING AND DESTROY THE ENGINE. NISSAN ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE PROBLEM BUT FAILED TO NOTIFY OWNERS THAT AS THE VEHICLES APPROACH APPROXIMATELY 100,000 MILES OR MORE, THE SECONDARY TIMING CHAINS MAY FAIL. I HAVE ATTACHED PHOTOS OF THE SECONDARY TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS REMOVED FROM MY VEHICLE WHICH SHOW THE PLASTIC GUIDE ON ONE NEARLY COMPLETELY WORN THROUGH, AND THE OTHER ONE BROKEN WITH ONLY HALF OF THE PLASTIC GUIDE STILL IN PLACE ON THE TENSIONER. I RECENTLY HAD MY RECALLED ECM RELAY REPLACED AFTER IT FAILED, THE VERY NEXT DAY MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I FOUND A P0430 CODE SAYING THAT THE CATALYST EFFICIENCY WAS BELOW THRESHOLD ON BANK 2 (FAILED CATALYTIC CONVERTER). I CALLED THE DEALER TO TELL THEM WHAT TROUBLE CODE I HAD FOUND AND TO SEE IF THE ECM FAILURE WAS RELATED. HE SAID HE WOULD LOOK INTO IT AND CALL ME BACK. DURING THAT TIME, I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND SITES WHERE PEOPLE HAD DISCUSSED HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WHEN THE DEALER CALLED ME BACK I TOLD HIM WHAT I HAD FOUND, IT WAS AT THIS TIME, HE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A COMMON ISSUE & THAT HE WOULD LOOK INTO TRYING TO GET IT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH MY MILEAGE WAS JUST OVER THE 80,000 MILE LIMIT. WHEN HE CALLED ME BACK, HE SAID THAT HE WAS GETTING RESISTANCE FROM HIS END AND THAT I SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN DIRECTLY. I CALLED NISSAN, EXPLAINED MY ISSUE, AND THEN WAITED FOR THEM TO GET BACK TO ME WITH THEIR DECISION. WHEN THEY CALLED THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD COVER $300 OF THE $1300 COST TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I SAID, ONLY $300?? I FEEL THAT NISSAN SHOULD BE COVERING 100% BECAUSE IT WAS THE FAILURE OF THE ECM THAT CAUSED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO FAIL. NISSAN SAID, OUR ENGINEERS HAVE NOT DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE OF THE ECM CAUSED THE FAILURE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, BUT IF AT SOME POINT THEY DO DETERMINE THAT, WE WILL REFUND ALL OF YOUR REPAIR COSTS. I KNOW THE CAT FAILURE WAS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE ECM FAILURE AND FEEL NISSAN SHOULD COVER THE ENTIRE COST OF REPLACEMENT. MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA IS SHOWING SYMPTOMS OF THE TIMING CHAIN WEAR THAT SO MANY OTHER XTERRA OWNERS HAVE FILED COMPLAINTS ABOUT. I CALLED NISSAN WITH REFERENCE TO THEIR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN #NTB09-128 THAT ACKNOWLEDGES THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE TIMING CHAIN. On the invoice/receipt the part of automobile is Plenium Seal CK WP. The remarks/labor description on invoice indicates repairing vacuum hose at read of throttle. My car simply stalled while driving on a main busy street. Fortunately, it was on a holiday (Feb 21, 2022) and there were no school crossings on this day!. I was shaken up, anxious. There was a nearby (with in a quarter mile or so) an independent auto repair/service shop and I was able to have them fix the issue. I feel this is a safety issue, as this could have been worse, and stalled while driving on the freeway. I will be writing to the manufacturer to inform them what has happened. There were no other warning signs prior to the vehicle stalling while driving.

MY ENTIRE STEERING WHEEL SHIFTS VERTICALLY AND LATERALLY. I AM LOSING CONTROL OF MY STEERING AND EXPERIENCING FREQUENT LOSS OF THE POWER STEERING ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEEDS. ERROR CODE P0463 I HAD 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS AND WENT TO FILL UP. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I TURNED ON THE CAR, AT WHICH POINT THE NEEDLE DID NOT REGISTER THE FULL TANK. AFTER RETURNING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH, I WENT ONLINE TO X.NISSANHELP.COM AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAD ALL FOUR HANKOOK DYNAPRO ATM TIRES FROM THIS BATCH REPLACED FOR TREAD SEPARATION. I ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THESE TIRES IN MARCH OF 2010. I HAD TWO OF THEM REPLACED IN APRIL OF 2013 (THE SEPARATION ON THE TWO TIRES WERE SO BAD THAT THEY WOULD NOT LET ME LEAVE THE SHOP WITH THEM.), THEN THE BLOWOUT IN SEPTEMBER OF 2014 THEN THE FINAL REPLACEMENT IN FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR. ALL OF THESE TIRES WERE REPLACED DUE TO THESE DEFECTIVE TIRES. I REPLACED THESE TIRES WITH THE SAME PRODUCT THINKING I JUST GOT A BAD BATCH OF TIRES. BUT WHEN SHOWING THE GUYS AT THE DISCOUNT TIRE WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TIRE AND CAR WHEN THE TREAD BLEW OFF THE TIRE AND THE 2500 DAMAGE THAT WAS CAUSED TO THE SUV, THEY FELT THAT THAT WAS A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND THAT I NEEDED TO FILE A CLAIM WITH HANKOOK. THEY HELPED ME GET THE CLAIM STARTED. I WAS CONTACTED BY JUAN BRITOS WHO ASKED ME TO SEND IN AN ESTIMATE FROM A REPAIR COMPANY WHICH I DID. A FEW DAYS LATER I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT THE CLAIM WAS DENIED DUE TO PROLONGED OPERATION OF THE TIRE IN AN UNDER-INFLATED STATE THIS CLAIM IS SIMPLY UNTRUE. I COMMUTE QUITE A FEW MILES A WEEK. I AM VERY CONSCIOUS OF THE PRESSURE OF MY TIRES. I DO THIS FOR ECONOMIC REASONS I KNOW KEEPING PROPERLY INFLATED TIRES IMPROVES MPG. THIS IS WHY I KEEP A TIRE PRESSURE GAGE IN THE DOOR OF MY CAR AND CHECK IT REGULARLY. I ALSO KEEP AN AIR COMPRESSOR IN MY CAR TO INFLATE ANY UNDER INFLATED TIRES, THIS IS ALSO AN AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF COMPRESSOR THAT SHUTS OFF AT THE SET PSI. I KEEP MY TIRES AT A RANGE OF 35-40 PSI. I ALSO HAVE A TPMS SYSTEM IN MY VEHICLE THAT WOULD WARN ME OF ANY LOW PRESSURE ISSUES.

I NOTICED THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT WAS CONSTANTLY STAYING ON WHEN MY ODOMETER REACHED APPROX. 28,000 MILES, BUT WAS UNSURE OF THE REASON. SO I TOOK MY 2006 XTERRA TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT PLUGGED SOMETHING INTO THE PORT UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER-SIDE DASH. THE LIGHT WOULD GO OUT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR OR SO BEFORE IMMEDIATELY TURNING BACK ON. THIS CONTINUED A FEW MORE TIMES UNTIL THE 36K MILE WARRANTY WAS NO LONGER EFFECTIVE. I DID NOT RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP ANYMORE AFTER THIS. WHEN I PURCHASED NEW TIRES FROM A WELL-KNOWN TIRE CENTER, THE GENTLEMAN DOING THE WORK HANDED ME THE SENSOR IN A COUPLE OF PIECES SAYING THAT IT HAD BROKEN OFF AND HE FOUND IT INSIDE THE TIRE. THESE WERE THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE WHEN I PURCHASED IT BRAND NEW IN JAN 2006. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT WHILE UNDER WARRANTY THIS WAS NOT RECOGNIZED AND THE DEALERSHIP ONLY FIXED THE SOLUTION BY DEACTIVATING THE DASH LIGHT. REGULARLY GETTING FAULTY TIRE PRESSURE READINGS ON MY 2006 XTERRA FOR OVER A YEAR NOW (IN COLD AND WARM WEATHER, LONG AND SHORT TRIPS). AT FIRST, LIGHT WOULD FLASH INTERMITTENTLY, AND THEN STAY ON FOR LONG PERIOD UNTIL TIRE WAS INFLATED, PARTICULARLY LEFT FRONT TIRE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG. ON ONE OCCASION, I DID HAVE NAIL IN THE TIRE, WHICH WAS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW, THE LIGHT HAS COME ON AND OFF AND WHEN I CHECK THE PRESSURE, ALL TIRES WERE CORRECTLY INFLATED. MY DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER AIRBAG WENT OFF. (EXPLODED?) IT BROKE MY PASSENGERS ARM AND UNKNOWN OBJECT IN PASSENGERS EYE. AIRBAGS BLOWN OUT DESTROYED MY DASH AIR BAG IS RIPPED LIKE IT HAD A BABY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. AFTER MAKING A LEFT TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE FLIPPED AND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT UNFASTENED WITHOUT WARNING. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. DRIVING HOME FROM WORK MY VEHICLE STARTED TO TREMBLE AND SHUDDER AT SPEEDS ABOVE 30-40 MPH. EVENTUALLY AFTER MUCH HESITATION AND LOUD ENGINE REVVING I DECIDED TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. TURNED IT BACK ON AND GOT ABOUT A FEW HUNDRED FEET DOWN THE ROAD WHEN THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. THE TRANSMISSION WASN'T RESPONSIVE WITH THE ENGINE CAUSING ME TO CUT SOMEONE OFF JUST TO PULL OF THE ROAD SAFELY. I HAVE HEARD THE COMMON ISSUE WITH NISSAN'S TRANSMISSION/COOLANT CONTAMINATION AND DECIDED TO LOOK FURTHER INTO THE ISSUE AFTER GETTING TOWED HOME. $100 DOWN THE DRAIN. SURE ENOUGH MY COOLANT RESERVOIR AND RADIATOR CAP WERE SMOTHERED IN A THICK GOOP KNOWN AS THE INFAMOUS "SMOD". THERE IS TRANS FLUID MIXED INTO MY COOLANT AND MORE THAN LIKELY, COOLANT IN MY TRANSMISSION. THIS IS DESIGN FLAW IN NISSAN. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE RESOLVED COMPLETELY BY NISSAN WITH NO FAULT TO THEIR DEDICATED CUSTOMERS. I PURCHASED MY 2006 XTERRA ON FEB 18TH, 2006. WITHIN 2 WEEKS I NOTICED IT WAS LEAKING DURING RAIN SHOWERS WHEN PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. I TOOK IT HOME AND IT LEAKED AGAIN SO I TOOK IT TO A NEW DEALER AND THEY CONCLUDED, WITH THE HELP OF NISSAN ENGINEERS, THAT A DESIGN FLAW IN THE XTERRA ALLOWS WATER TO ENTER THE VEHICLE WHEN PARKED ON AN UPHILL INCLINE. THE WATER ENTERS THROUGH THE AIR VENTS UNDER THE COWLING AND DROPS ONTO THE BLOWER MOTOR UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE DASHBOARD. I REALLY DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN. MY TRUCK WOULD NOT START 8/26/13. I LEARNED THAT THE DREADED RADIATOR COOLANT LEAK HAD FINALLY DESTROYED MY TRANSMISSION COMPUTER SYSTEM AND TRANSMISSION. I FIRST LEARNED THAT THIS COULD BECOME A PROBLEM IN FEBRUARY OF 2011 WHEN MY VEHICLE WAS AT ABOUT 96,300 MILES. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP GAVE ME A NUMBER TO CALL, I DID AND WAS TOLD AT THAT TIME THAT I COULD PAY $6000 OUT OF POCKET AND POSSIBLY BE REIMBURSED LATER AS MY VEHICLE VIN WAS NOT IN THE CURRENT LIST OF VEHICLES BEING OFFERED THE "SPECIAL WARRANTY COVERAGE". I WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER AND TOLD I WOULD BE MAILED INFORMATION ABOUT ALL FUTURE MATTERS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. I DID NOT HAVE $6000 THEN, I DO NOT HAVE $3000 NOW. NOTICED IT THE FIRST TIME LAST NIGHT. I HAD JUST UNDER A 1/4 TANK OF GAS IN MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA, AND DROVE 15 MILES AND PULLED OVER TO USE THE PHONE. LEFT THE ENGINE RUNNING, AND SUDDENLY NOTICED THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT WAS LIT, AND THE GAS GAUGE READ EMPTY. IMPOSSIBLE, AND ILLOGICAL. TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, TURNED BACK ON...SAME THING. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PARK THE VEHICLE, IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DRIVER WAS NOT INJURED, BUT BOTH VEHICLES SUSTAINED DAMAGES. THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FROM THE SCENE AND TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE SPEED AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 42,000.

Car just shut off in traffic loosing all power and braking causing me to crash into the back of a stopped car at a red-light. After inspection from a mechanic shop, they informed me that something in the computer had fried causing the car to shut off, and it had also caused the transmission control unit module to go bad making the car not drive able.

ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 30, 2015, WHILE DRIVING FROM MARYLAND TO VIRGINIA, ON A SPEED LIMIT OF 55, VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN AND TRANSMISSION WONT ENGAGED WHILE ACCELERATING THE GAS PEDAL, RPM WAS GOING TO THE HIGHER NUMBER/RED ZONE AND CAR WILL NOT MOVE FASTER UP TO THE NOTED SPEED LIMIT. WHEN WE STOP AT THE LIGHT, AND THE LIGHTS TURN GREEN, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE AND MAKE LOUD NOISE AND RPM GOING HIGHER TO THE RED ZONE NUMBERS. THIS CAUSED TRAFFIC BEHIND US BACK UP BECAUSE OF SPEED TOO SLOW IN A 55-MILE PER HOUR SPEED. I WAS AFRAID IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I READ THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT NISSAN VEHICLES ABOUT RADIRATOR WATER LEAKS TO THE TRANSMISSION AND CAUSING IT TO MALFUNCTION. THESE VEHICLES SEEM TO HAVE A SAFETY FLAW. WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE AMOUNT OF TRAVEL IS SUCH THAT IT IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE TO DEPRESS THE GAS PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD. I HAVE HAD TWO DIFFERENT NISSAN DEALERS (HENDERSON, NEVADA AND BOISE, IDAHO) INSPECT MY VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD IN BOTH CASES THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE...ITS THE WAY THE AUTOMOBILE WAS MANUFACTURED. DURING MY LAST DEALER INSPECTION IN BOISE, IDAHO THE MECHANIC BROUGHT A NEW 2015 MODEL INTO THE GARAGE AND PUT THE TWO CARS SIDE BY SIDE. THE DIFFERENCE IN BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL WAS APPROXIMATELY 1/8 OF AN INCH, SO THE PROBLEM HAS EVIDENTLY NEVER BEEN ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. UPON TURNING A CORNER AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A STOP SIGN IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, I WENT TO ACCELERATE AND MATCH THE SPEED OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE GEAR FAILED TO SHIFT APPROPRIATELY (TRANSMISSION) AND GIVING THE CAR GAS SIMPLY REVVED THE ENGINE. LUCKILY THE APPROACHING CAR RESPONDED WELL AND SLOWED TO AVOID A REAR COLLISION WHILE I EASED OFF THE PEDAL AND THEN GENTLY ACCELERATED AGAIN TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC. UPON HIS EXAMINATION OF MY 2006 XTERRA, HE DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND COOLANT WERE MIXING AND DESTROYING BOTH MY RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALED THAT THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM IS COMMON AMONG NISSAN OWNERS! WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM SMITHTOWN NISSAN IN 2010 AND SUBSEQUENTLY, THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO NOTIFICATION OR RECALL REGARDING THIS DANGEROUS HAZARD. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND LIFE-THREATENING. WITHIN 2 YEARS OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, WE BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE PASSENGER REAR DOOR LATCH MECHANISM. THE DEVICE HAS A CHILD SAFETY LOCK (UNSURE IF THIS IS THE PROBLEM). AFTER JIGGLING THE LOCK TOGGLE IN THE VEHICLE AND THE CHILD SAFETY LOCK, THE DOOR WOULD EVENTUALLY UNLOCK AND ALLOW YOU TO OPEN THE DOOR. THIS FIX WOULD REMAIN TEMPORARY AND OCCUR OFTEN. THEN THE SAME TROUBLE MOVED TO THE OPPOSITE REAR DOOR. AFTER OWNING THE VEHICLE NOW FOR 8 YEARS, BOTH DOORS WOULD LOCK AT SOME POINT IN TIME, TOGETHER, OR SEPARATELY AND SOMETIMES UNLOCK AFTER VIGOROUS ATTEMPTS TO UNLOCK THE TOGGLE. NOW BOTH DOORS WILL NOT UNLOCK FOR US TO OPEN THEM. THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH A LINKAGE SYSTEM THAT MAY HAVE A BROKEN PLASTIC PIECE THAT HOLDS THE LINKAGE ROD. I CHECKED THAT MYSELF ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I HAVE A 4 YEAR OLD THAT HAS TO CRAWL OUT OF THE FRONT IN ORDER TO GET OUT. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, THIS DELAY OR AN INABILITY TO MOVE ON HIS OWN, COULD BE DETRIMENTAL. I TOLD THE DEALER SEVERAL TIME ABOUT IT, BUT THEY WERE NEVER REALLY CONCERNED AND THE MECHANISM SEEMED TO WORK WELL WITH THEM, SO THEY SHRUGGED ME OFF. THE DEALER HAS TERRIBLE SERVICE. WHILE ON A BUSINESS TRIP AWAY FROM HOME NOTICED THE HEATER STOPPED BLOWING WARM AIR. A FEW MINUTES LATER ENGINE TEMPERATURE SPIKED BUT THEN RETURNED TO NORMAL. 50 MILES LATER HEATER STARTED WORKING AGAIN. TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND DISCOVERED TRANSMISSION COOLER WITHIN THE RADIATOR HAD FAILED, ALLOWING THE RADIATOR COOLANT TO MIX WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. PAID FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION COOLER, SYSTEM FLUSH. HAD THE SYSTEM FLUSHED AGAIN 1 WEEK AFTER RADIATOR REPLACEMENT. TRANSMISSION NOW ACTING ERRATICALLY, PARTICULAR WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN 3RD AND 4TH GEAR. INITIAL ASSESSMENTS BY MECHANIC SUGGESTS TRANSMISSION AND TRANSMISSION COMPUTER REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. STARTED OVER A YEAR AGO THAT WHILE DRIVING THE MOTOR WOULD JUST STOP RUNNING, WOULD HAVE TO COAST TO THE SIDE IF THE ROAD WITHOUT POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP AND THEY COULDN'T FIND OUT THE PROBLEM. NOW THAT MY TRANSMISSION IS STARTING TO SHAKE AND MAKE NOISE, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THAT MY RADIATOR IS MAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT MAKES THE MOTOR QUIT AND LOSS OF POWER. I AM INFORMED THAT I NEED A NEW RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. LOOKING ONLINE I SEE THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH THIS SANE SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT THERE IS NO RECALL. I THINK THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE IT'S SAFETY ALONE! IN DEC 2012 I HAD TO TAKE MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA TO THE GARAGE, THERE I WAS TOLD THAT MY RADIATOR HAD CRACKED IN 3 PLACES AND THAT I HAD COOLANT IN MY TRANSMISSION. I HAD TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR AND HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FLUSHED SEVERAL TIME. THEN ON APRIL 10 I WAS DRIVING HOME. WHILE GETTING ON THE INTERSTATE MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY VEHICLE DID NOT WANT TO GO (LIKE IT WASN'T GETTING ANY GAS). TOOK THE XTERRA BACK TO THE GARAGE AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO REBUILD OR REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION. I WAS GOING APROX. 15 MPH ON A STRAIGHT WAY OFF OF A DIRT ROAD AND STARTED TO SLOW DOWN BEFORE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN A LITTLE WAY FROM IT , APPLIED THE BRAKE LIKE NORMAL, WHEN I HEARD MY ENGINE SOUND LIKE THE ACCELERATOR WAS BEING ROMPED ON, AND REALIZED IT WAS IN FACT SPEEDING UP RAPIDLY. I THEN STARTED THINKING FAST, PUT MY OTHER FOOT ON THE BRAKE TOO AND PULLED UP THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I KNEW I COULDN'T MAKE THE TURN AT THE STOP SIGN ONTO A HWY. I WOKE UP AFTER BEING UNCONSCIOUS FOR AROUND THREE HRS. DUE TO SEVERAL INJURIES CAUSED BY THE AIRBAG THAT APPARENTLY INFLATED AT THE FIRST LARGE TREE IMPACT. PROCEEDING TO HIT SEVERAL OTHERS BEFORE IT CAME TO A STOP AND ALOT OF SHAKING AROUND AND FORTUNATELY I HAD MY SEAT BELT ON OR OTHERWISE WOULD HAVE BEEN EJECTED THRU THE WINDSHIELD ON THE LAST IMPACT FOR SURE HITTING THE LARGEST TREE OF ALL, STOPPING ME FROM ENTERING INTO A CREEK ABOUT 5 FEET AWAY, WHEN I WAS TAKEN TO THE SITE THE NEXT DAY I STILL DIDN'T REALIZE JUST WHAT HAPPENED, AND COULD ONLY REMEMBER THAT SOUND OF THE ENGINE REVVING SO LOUD WHILE I WAS TRYING TO SLOW DOWN SEEING THE STOP SIGN A WAYS UP AHEAD AND THEN REALIZING THE VEHICLE DID NOT WANT TO SLOW DOWN AND WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE MORE AS I THEN WAS HOLDING BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE AND HAD PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND KNOWING I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE THAT TURN WITHOUT ROLLING AND WAS NO WHERE TO GO BUT STRAIGHT IF I COULDN'T GET IT TO STOP, AND AT THAT TIME IT WAS GOING WAY FASTER THAN I WAS ORIGINALLY GOING QUITE A WAY BEFORE THE STOP SIGN ONLY MAYBE 15MPH WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES AS USUAL BUT IT FAILED LIKE OTHERS I HAVE RESEARCHED HAVE DONE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR PRESSURE SENSOR WARNING LAMP CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE VALVE STEM WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,000.

JUNE 2, 2009 I HAD TO HAVE MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA TO VICTORY NISSAN IN MECHANICSVILLE, VA AFTER BEING TOLD BY NISSAN'S RECALL REPRESENTATIVE THAT MY PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CLASSIFIED AS A RECALL. MY FUEL-LINE BURST AND SPEWED GAS IN MY ENGINE COMPARTMENT. IT COST ME $310.58 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. JUNE 7, 2010 THE FUELINE BURST IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE, THIS TIME SPRAYING ME IN THE FACE WITH GASOLINE WHEN I RAISED THE HOOD-LUCKILY I WAS WEARING EYEGLASSES. AGAIN I WAS TOLD BY NISSAN RECALL THAT THERE ISN'T A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE REASON ESCAPES ME AS THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BOTH WITH POTENTIAL FIRE AND PHYSICAL INJURY. NOBODY HAS BEEN HURT SO FAR WITH THIS ISSUE. IN A SEPARATE INCIDENT, MY FUEL GAUGE THAT IS A KNOWN HAZARD BEGAN ACTING ERRATICALLY A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, AND I WAS TOLD THAT XTERRAS WITH MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER DO NOT FALL UNDER THE CURRENT RECALL THAT NISSAN HAS ON THIS ISSUE. THIS AFTERNOON AROUND 4:30 PM, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM MY CAMPUS SECURITY AT WORK. APPARENTLY, SOMEONE HAD WALKED PAST MY CAR IN THE PARKING LOT AND NOTICED THAT THE BACK REAR WINDOW HAD SHATTERED AND BLEW OUT. WHEN I WENT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED, THE SECURITY OFFICER TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF FORCE BY A PERSON, BUT IT SEEMED THAT THE GLASS HAD BLOWN OUT FROM THE INSIDE. WE TOOK NUMEROUS PICTURES, AND THE OFFICER ALSO MENTIONED THAT IT HAD HAPPENED TO A HANDFUL OF OTHER CARS THIS YEAR ALONE, INCLUDING OTHER NISSANS. HE SPECULATED THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE TEMPERATURE CHANGE. EARLIER IN THE MORNING, THE CAR WAS FROSTED OVER WHEN I DROVE TO WORK. BY AFTERNOON, IT WAS WARM ENOUGH WITHOUT A JACKET. NO ONE WAS INJURED IN THIS SITUATION. OUR WORK CAMPUS IS ALSO FENCED WITH SECURE ENTRY AT ALL TIMES. AFTERWARDS, WE CLEANED UP THE GLASS SO THAT IT WOULD NOT SHATTER ON THE ROAD WHILE I DROVE. I PURCHASED THIS XTERRA IN MAY OF 2006. IN THE PAST 8 WEEKS I HAVE HAD TO HAVE MY 06 NISSAN XTERRA TOWED TO THE DEALER SIX TIMES FOR THE SAME ISSUE OF NOT STARTING. THE FIRST TIME I WAS TOLD I WAS OUT OF GAS. SINCE THEN, I'VE BEEN TOLD THE SECURITY MODULE HAD GONE BAD, I HAD CORROSION ON THE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUSING IT TO GO IN TO STOLEN MODE, THE FUEL PUMP HAD GONE BAD (REPLACED TWICE), AND THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE FUEL PUMP HAD A SHORT IN IT (REPLACED TWICE). THE DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND WANT TO GIVE ME MY CAR BACK WITHOUT ACTUALLY FINDING OUT THE REAL ISSUE. THIS IS MY FAMILY VEHICLE AND I DO NOT DO ANY TOWING OR OFF-ROAD WITH IT. PRIOR TO THESE ISSUES, MY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AT 11K MILES AND LEFT ME STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF AN INTERSTATE FOR OVER 3 HOURS WHILE I WAITED FOR A TOW TRUCK, AND HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE FUEL GAUGE SENSOR, CATALYTIC CONVERTER, AND TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS REPLACED. *TR
