TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE FAILED TO OPERATE PROPERLY WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT REFILLED THE FUEL TANK HOWEVER, THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWED EMPTY. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED BY A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT RECALLS WERE VIN SPECIFIC AND THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

APPARENTLY, THIS IS HAPPENING TO LARGE NUMBER OF NISSAN VEHICLES. IT STARTED WITH MY GAS METER GETTING STUCK ON A QUARTER OF TANK. AND TWICE I RAN OUT OF GAS, THINKING I STILL HAD SOME GAS LEFT IN TANK. NOW MY EMPTY TANK LIGHT CUTS ON USUALLY AFTER I GET AROUND A HALF OF TANK. WHEN I FILL UP IT MAY TAKE 2 OR 3 TRIPS BEFORE THE SENSOR GETS OFF OF READING NO GAS. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AS WELL. VERY FRUSTRATING NOT KNOWING HOW MUCH IS IN TANK, ESPECIALLY ON LONG TRIPS. MY FUEL GAUGE REGISTERED ONLY 1/2 OF THE LAST QUARTER SO I COMPLETELY FILLED UP. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR UP THE FUEL GAUGE NOW READ TOTALLY EMPTY, WITH THE YELLOW EMPTY LIGHT ON. I KNEW IT WAS FULL SO I RESET THE ODOMETER TO TRACK MILEAGE TO ESTIMATE FUEL CONTENT. AFTER ABOUT TWO DRIVING CYCLES THE GAUGE EVENTUALLY MADE IT TO THE FULL MARK AND SEEMED TO COME DOWN NORMALLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED NOW THREE MORE TIMES. I UNDERSTAND THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL, BUT MY VEHICLE IS OUTSIDE THE TIME (SEPT 2013) AND DISTANCE (72000) MILES ALLOWED FOR THE RECALL. IT'S NOW MAY 2014, WITH 76000 MILES. THE DEALER, AND THE NISSAN 800 NUMBER JUST BLEW ME OFF AS BEING OUTSIDE THE RECALL WARRANTY LIMITS. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY CAME UP WITH CODE P0463 REGARDING THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. NEEDED A NEW FUEL SENDING UNIT & GAUGE ASSEMBLY INSTALLED FOR ABOUT $430.00. NISSAN HAD ISSUED A WARRANTY NOTIFICATION REGARDING THIS, EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO 72 MONTHS (6 YRS) / 72,000 MILES. WE WERE BEYOND THE REVISED WARRANTY PERIOD SO WE HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ALL THE SUDDEN THE SUV STARTED LOOSING SPEED UNTIL IT CAME TO A COMPLETELY STOP IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF THE BALTIMORE BELTWAY 695 WHICH MADE A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR ME. CARS FLYING BY ON BOTH SIDES OF ME. HAD A POLICE OFFICER STOP TRAFFIC SO THAT I COULD DRIFT IT BACKWARDS DOWN THE HILL TO GET IT TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. FOUND OUT IT WAS THE DDEFAULTY RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION THAT NISSAN KNEW ABOUT. IT DIDN'T GIVE ME ANY NOTICE THAT IT WAS ANYTHING WRONG. EXCEPT LEAVING ME STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY FLUID LEAKING FROM THE RADIATOR TO THE TRANSMISSION. THE CORNER CUTTING DESIGN FLAW THAT CAUSED THE ISSUE COMMONLY KNOWN AS SMOD (STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE OF DEATH, THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND THE COOLANT MIX IN BOTH THE RADIATOR AND THE TRANSMISSION) HAS CAUSED THE TCM TO BECOME DAMAGED, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER TO THE WHEELS GOING UP A HILL THEN WOULDNT START AFTER TURNING IT OFF, WEVE CHANGED THE FILTER, FLUID AND SOLENOIDS ON THE VALVE BODY, BUT THE TCM STILL ISNT WORKING. WE CAN START THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE IT AROUND A BIT, ONCE IT GETS TO 3RD GEAR IT RUNS FINE, BUT IN LOWER GEARS (EXCEPT FOR WHEN IN REVERSE) IT STRUGGLES, THEN AFTER SHUTTING THE VEHICLE OFF THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATS BECAUSE THE TCM ISNT WORKING PROPERLY, THIS ISSUE PREVENTS THE VEHICLE FROM STARTING AGAIN WITHIN ABOUT 1 HOUR OF TURNING IT OFF. AS STATED EARLIER THIS TCM ISSUE CAME TO LIGHT WHEN THE VEHICLE FAILED TO GO UP A HILL, IF TRAFFIC WERE ANY WORSE THAN IT WAS THIS COULDVE POTENTIALLY LED TO A DISASTER THAT WOULDVE MADE HAVING TO WAIT ABOUT AN HOUR FOR PICKUP SEEM LIKE NOTHING. THIS ISSUE WAS CAUSED BY NISSAN CUTTING CORNERS AND ITS A COMMON ISSUE THATS LED TO MANY OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE HAVING TO COVER REPAIRS OR JUST GIVE UP ON THE VEHICLE.

WE JUST DISCOVERED OUR 2007 NISSAN XTERRA (117,000 MILES) IS ONE OF THE MANY NISSANS TO HAVE THE RADIATOR CRACK AND LEAK COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND TRANSMISSION FLUID INTO THE COOLING SYSTEM. THE CAR NOW NEEDS AROUND $6,000 IN REPAIRS TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION, RADIATOR, ETC. WE BOUGHT A WARRANTY FROM THE DEALER WHEN WE BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2010. THE WARRANTY COVERS THE TRANSMISSION UP TO 120,000 MILES. WE HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS FOR REGULAR SERVICE AND WAS NEVER INFORMED ABOUT THIS DESIGN DEFECT. Aprox. three years ago, I reported a problem with the fuel gauge not giving true readings. After taking the car to be tested, I was advised that the sending unit was faulty, and the mechanic believed that there was a recall on the matter (he had heard of many people having the same problem). After doing online research, I came across hundreds, if not thousands of Xterra owners reporting the same problem. I called Nissan, and I was advised that there were no recalls on this matter. That does not make sense, for it seems obvious, based on my research, that this--among other common problems (such as the Airbag light coming on)--are very prevalent, and seem to be due to a manufacturing/design problem.

A COUPLE OF MONTHS BACK I REPORTED THIS FUEL LEVEL PROBLEM I BELIEVE IN JULY, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THIS XTERRA 2007 (WE HAVE TWO A 2005 AND THIS 2007) SHE DRIVING IN THE CENTER LANE ON THE I-30 INTERSTATE WHEN THE XTERRA JUST CUT OUT, LOOKING AT THE DASH SHE SAID IT HAS FUEL ABOUT A 1/4 TANK , SHE SAID SHE JUST MADE IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE SAFETY LANE WHEN STOPPED. I WENT TO HER AIDE TO FIND THE CHECK ENGINE LITE ON AND IT WOULDNT START, I TOOK A TWO FOOT PIECE OF TWO BY FOUR AND WRAPPED THE TANK AND IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS EMPTY AND WHATS FUNNY THE GAUGE INSIDE NOW READS EMPTY..GOT HER GAS AND I DROVE IT HOME. I REPORT THIS TO YOU GUYS AND NEVER HEARD A WORD BACK ABOUT THIS. IN FACT THE COMPLAINT DOESY SHOW UP IN YOUR LISTING EXPLAIN THAT! FOR THE PAST YEAR AND INTERMITTEDLY THIS SUV HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR THAT SOMETIMES WORKS AND OTHER TIMES DOESNT WORKS. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE GUAGE WAS REPORTING THAT SHE HAD A 1/4 TANK OF FUEL BUT WAS OUT OF GAS WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING IN THE HIGH SPEED LANE FORCING HER TO MAKE A DRIVE ACROSS BOTH LANES TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC. I REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER SHIP AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THIS ON THIS VEHICLE. TRANSMISSION FAILURE DUE TO LEAK FROM RADIATOR COOLING SYSTEM FLUID INTERMIXING WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING, WENT TO REPAIR SHOP THE CODE P0717 CAME UP. UPON INSPECTION BY THE REPAIR SHOP IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION, RADIATOR, AND ALL HOSES,ETC. THAT INTERCONNECTED THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED.I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA AND THE PROBLEM OCCURED IN ARIZONA.

NISSAN DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED ME ABOUT NEEDING TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TIMING CHAIN SYSTEM. AFTER DOING RESEARCH, IT IS EVIDENT NISSAN KNEW ABOUT FAULTY TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS AND GUIDES THAT IT WAS USING ON CERTAIN MODEL YEAR XTERRAS, INCLUDING 2007. IF TIMING CHAIN FAILS WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, IT CAN LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE AND A $8000+ REPAIR BILL FOR A NEW ENGINE. NISSAN KNOWING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SENT SERVICE BULLETINS TO ITS SERVICE CENTERS BUT DID NOT INFORM CONSUMERS ABOUT THE PROBLEM. NISSAN KNEW THE COMPONENTS ARE FAULTY AND YET DON'T CARE ENOUGH TO INFORM CONSUMERS. THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. NISSAN KNEW THAT THE TRANSMISSION COOLERS ON SAME MODEL YEAR WERE FAULTY AND DID NOT INFORM CONSUMERS. CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FORCED NISSAN TO FACE THE MUSIC, BUT CONSUMERS STILL HAD TO PAY OVER $2000 OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION, TRANSMISSION COOLER, AND RADIATOR.

The vehicle was driving just fine, then about a month later the heat gauge started to fluctuate, i replaced the radiator caps, thermostat...it ran good for another month, started to overheat....i made sure water was in radiator and overflow...about a month went by the gauge started to fluctuate again, i had it towed to sayre auto parts in sayre, al to have a water pump installed and the mechanic told me their is now there is water in my oil, meaning a cracked head gasket...the vehicle never got over the 3/4 mark on gauge and this is the 2nd vehicle ive purchased that the same thing has happened to.

I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA THAT I JUST BOUGHT IN SEPT. '10. IT NOW HAS ABOUT 39,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS A LITTLE UNDER 1/4 A TANK OF GAS THE OTHER DAY SO I WENT AND FILLED IT UP. The contact stated that after retrieving the vehicle, the air bag warning light was blinking. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and produced codes: B1049 and B1054. Additionally, the contact indicated Part Number: 4790453X10A needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact then received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 23E012000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available for the recall repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that they were not responsible for the individual dealers and no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The contact stated that there were 3 parts that needed to be replaced but the parts were unavailable. The contact paid a bill from the dealership, yet the vehicle was returned back without any repairs being made.

The airbag warning light came on. The vehicle is registered in a state that uses heavy amounts of salt on the roads in winter. Nissan had a recall campaign for this exact thing that they closed. Now, they refuse to diagnose or repair the issue and expect me to pay for it completely. They refuse to fix a problem they already admitted was their fault due to the fact they thought everyone should have gotten it fixed already. However, the vehicle is new to me and only started having the problem this winter.

WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR STARTED NOT TO SHIFT WELL WHEN CHANGING GEARS. I'VE NOTICED ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON THE CITY ROADS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WITHIN THAT WEEK AND THEY SAID IT WAS MY TRANSMISSION AND THAT IT WILL COST OVER $3000 TO FIX. WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR 2 YEARS AGO, I ALSO PURCHASED A BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY THAT INCLUDED THE TRANSMISSION. I DID NOT HAVE THE PAPERWORK WITH ME SO I HAD TO GO HOME TO LOOK FOR IT. I PURCHASED A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA 200 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOME AND WHILE DRIVING IT HOME THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY. I CHECK 10 AMP FUSE, IT WAS BROKEN. GOT CAR TOWED TO NEAR FAMILY HOME, BEGAN RESEARCHING AND FIND OUT THAT NISSAN WAS AWARE OF TRANS COOLER PROBLEM THAT WILL CAUSE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. IT WAS A VERY NICE VEHICLE, HAD REALLY SMALL ISSUES WITH NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND NORMAL MAINTENANCE WHICH I KEPT UP ON MYSELF. THIS HORRIFIED ME WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT NEW IN 2007. THE SERVICE ADVISOR IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THIS IS A TERRIBLE PROBLEM BECAUSE NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS HORRIBLE DESIGN FLAW ON NISSAN'S PART AND THEY'RE NOT DOING ANYTHING TO HELP THEIR CUSTOMERS, HE SAID THAT NISSAN IS NOT GOING TO DO A RECALL AT ALL ITS JUST A DEFECT. I took my 2007 Nissan Xterra to the dealer on 08/04/2025 to complete the air bag safety recall. The dealer performed the recall service, but the recall status has not been updated in the system or on the NHTSA website. It still shows as “incomplete.” Because the recall remains listed as open, I am unable to pass my brake and light inspection or complete my vehicle registration with the DMV. I have contacted the dealer and Nissan customer service multiple times, but they have not corrected the recall record or provided a timeline for when it will be updated. The recall has technically been completed, but Nissan’s failure to update the record is preventing my vehicle from being legally inspected and registered. I am requesting NHTSA’s help to ensure the manufacturer updates the recall status properly.

Oil is getting into the radiator and causing a gray gunk build up in radiator and possibly the engine. I have had the car less than a 1 1/2 years And I've already had to have the same issue fixed 3 × first time. The heater hose blew out caused an air bubble in the radiator which caused us to have to burp the radiator Which is when we found it the first time had sent it to the mechanic. Had it flushed, had it fixed. it was fine or so we thought until about a month ago. Car overheats radiator fluid spews out everywhere. Fix the hose, add radiator fluid and start. The burping process again and out comes the gray gunk. Sent it back to mechanic had it flush had gaskets to the transmission cooler and Oil cooler fixed. Mechanic cannot find how it's getting into radiator. Break pads wear prematurely due to calipers constantly sticking. Rust is everywhere on frame, suspension, shocks undercarriage and body. Vdc/slip light will come on while driving causing the car to stall at any speed. Fixed those sensors 2 times since I bought the car in December 2023 from a used car lot. State I I've in has no laws to protect people buying from used car lots but they do for new cars even though new cars come with warranties. Should be the other way around protect the people who can't afford the 30000 dollar cars. There's a reason we go to used car lots. Paid 4500 after taxes and registration and have put almost 5000 into it. Nissan is aware of the problem just not enough to deem a recall.

There is usual rust on body of truck. There is some kind of electrical problem rather it’s the security system or wiring. There’s a clicking sound coming from dash area. There is a suspension problem, has to change leaf springs, struts and shocks often.

IN MARCH 2019 THE TRANSMISSION STARTED GETTING SLUGGISH WHILE DROPPING MY DAUGHTER AT SCHOOL ONE DAY. EVENTUALLY IT WOULD NOT SWITCH GEARS AS I PULLED IN MY DRIVEWAY FROM MY 1.5 MILE TRIP TO/FROM THE SCHOOL. EVENTUALLY IT WOULDN'T EVEN START IN MY DRIVEWAY EVEN WITH GOOD BATTERY. REPLACED A FUSE FOR THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE AND WAS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE BUT IT BLEW THE FUSE. HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO OUR MECHANIC AND HE DISCOVERED DISCOVERED THAT THE COOLANT MIXED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID AND NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE EVERYTHING INVOLVED. ALSO, THE MECHANISM THAT OPENS THE TAILGATE/TRUNK DOOR/LIFTGATE WILL NOT STAY OPEN, ESPECIALLY IN COLDER WEATHER. IT HAS HIT SEVERAL PEOPLE IN THE HEAD AND IS A DEFINITE HAZARD.

I JUST WENT OVER THE 100,000 MILE MARK THIS YEAR SO NISSAN WILL NOT FIX IT. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS ISN'T A RECALL ISSUE INSTEAD OF A WARRANTY EXTENSION ISSUE WITH NISSAN WILLING TO COVER THE COST OVER $3,000. WHO HAS $3,000 THAT THEY CAN AFFORD OR EVEN HAVE FOR THAT MATTER? I PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND SLOWLY MOVED TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER WHERE OTHER CARS COULD HAVE HIT ME. NISSAN'S FAILURE TO RECOGNIZE THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS FAULTY RADIATOR THAT HAS AFFECTED THE TRANSMISSIONS OF BOTH THE XTERRA'S, PATHFINDERS, AND FRONTIERS IS UNACCEPTABLE. A HESITATION IN THE VEHICLE'S ACCELERATION BEGAN OCCURRING FREQUENTLY UPON DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR AFTER A FULL STOP AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT, BUT NOT AT ANY OTHER TIME IN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST NOTED WHEN DEPARTING THE DEALERSHIP AFTER WHICH A NEW TIMING CHAIN HAD BEEN REPLACED. WHEN REVIEWED BY THE DEALERSHIP UPON RETURN TO THE SERVICE AREA (ANOTHER APPOINTMENT HAD BEEN MADE AT LATER TIME), A LOSS OF OVER ONE QUART OF TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS DETECTED (OVER WHAT TIME PERIOD WAS UNCLEAR), BUT NO KNOWN SOURCE OF EXTERNAL LEAKAGE WAS FOUND. THIS LED TO THE CONCLUSION THAT INTERNAL LEAKAGE WAS VERY LIKELY OCCURRING. DUE TO THE MANY INSTANCES OF RADIATOR CRACKS AND TOXIC MIXING OF FLUIDS AMONG SIMILAR YEAR MODELS (MID-2000 MODEL YEARS OF NISSAN XTERRA), THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED THAT THE RADIATOR BE REPLACED AND THE TRANSMISSION THOROUGHLY FLUSHED, WHICH MIGHT PREVENT THE TRANSMISSION FROM REQUIRING A COMPLETE OVERHAUL IN THE FUTURE - ALTHOUGH THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES. THIS WORK WAS COMPLETED FOR A TOTAL OF $1500 INCLUDING DISCOUNT; THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WELL AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER FOR RESOLVING ISSUES THAT HAD BEEN EXPERIENCED BY OTHERS, HENCE THE DEALERSHIP'S CHARGES. A REQUEST WAS NONETHELESS MADE TO GET REIMBURSED BY THE MANUFACTURER (NISSAN), CURRENTLY UNDER REVIEW. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THIS ISSUE WAS DEALT WITH AT A VERY EARLY STAGE AND MIGHT THEREFORE RESULT IN A LOWER PROBABILITY OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS IN THE FUTURE, WHICH COULD COST SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS ($6-7,000 OR MORE). EARLIER LAST WEEK, I WENT TO SOUTHERN CAL TO TAKE CARE OF SOME BUSINESS. UPON RETURNING HOME, I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND TRAVELING BETW SPEEDS OF 35-40 MPH. WHEN TRAFFIC SPEED INCREASED, I TRIED TO ACCELERATE BUT HAD DIFFICULTY. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE RMP??S INCREASED BUT MY SPEED WOULD NOT. UPON RETURNING HOME I NOTICED THAT I HAD A LIGHT OILY FILM ON MY BACK WINDOW. DURING THE TRIP NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. ON JULY 5TH THAT ??SERVICE ENGINE SOON?? LIGHT CAME ON. I CALLED FOR AN APPT AND ONE WAS SCHEDULED FOR ME JULY 6TH. I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP REP. WHAT I HAD EXPERIENCED EARLIER IN THE WEEK AND WHAT I WAS STILL EXPERIENCING. THE REP MADE STATEMENT ABOUT LEAKY TRANSMISSION FLUID AND HE TOOK MY CAR FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. A FEW HOURS LATER, THE REP CALLED TO INFORM ME THAT MY RADIATOR FAILED. HE THEN STATED THAT AS A RESULT OF MY RADIATOR FAILING THAT THE RADIATOR FLUID MIXED WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. AS A RESULT, I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE BOTH THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION COSTING APPROXIMATELY $6800. HOW CAN THIS BE SINCE I GET MY CAR SERVICED REGULARLY? THIS DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON MY VEHICLE. NISSAN XTERRAS ARE ON RECALL IN NORTHERN STATES DUE TO SNOW AND SALT AFFECTING THE FRONT CRASH SENSOR. I BOUGHT MY NISSAN INTEXAS BUT WORK FOR THE ARMY AND LIVE IN GERMANY WHERE THERE IS PLENTY OF ICE AND SNOW. NISSAN SAID BECAUSE I BOUGHT MY CAR IN TEXAS, IT ISN'T COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS WITH THE FUEL GAUGE SENSOR. IT STARTED ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF RANDOMLY. NOT TO MENTION THAT WHEN I FILL UP MY VEHICLE THE FUEL GAUGE WILL NOT SENSE THAT ITS FULL. IT WILL TAKE A LONG TIME OR EVEN BOTTOM OUT SHOWING THE LIGHT THAT ITS EMPTY. I FEEL THAT THIS IS VERY UNUSUAL AND HARD TO TELL WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT HAS HAPPEN TO MANY OTHER NISSAN VEHICLES. *KB

I HAVE A 2007 XTERRA WITH 42K. I FILLED IT AT THE GAS STATION AND NOTICED RIGHT AFTER LEAVING THE STATION THAT THE GAUGE STILL SAID A QUARTER OF A TANK. SO I PULLED OVER AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND THEN RESTARTED IT THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT WAS ON. AS I WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE GAUGE SLOWLY STARTED RISING TO THE FULL MARK. MY CAR DIDN'T PASS STATE REGISTRATION WITH THE SES ON. *KB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER MADE REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN WORSE CONDITION AFTER REPAIRS. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY LOOSE, THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE WAS NOT OPERATING, THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING GAUGE INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND OCCASIONALLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD FAIL TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL RECALLS REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE BUT HE WAS NOT SURE WHICH RECALL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,700.

I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA BROUGHT USED @ CARMAX OF WHITE MARSH MD. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 3YRS NOW AND HAVE HAD ITS REGULAR CHECK AND ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. IN NOVEMBER THE CAR STARTED WITH THIS STRANGE AND LOAD NOISE. I HAD NEW TIERD REPLACED AND TOOK IT BACK TO THE PLACE TO SEE IF THAT WAS THE PROBLEM, AFTER PERSISTENCE AND TAKING THE CAR BACK BECAUSE IT WOULD SKIP AND PULL. THE AUTOSHOP DID A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE RADIATOR FLUID WAS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING THE CAR TO LOOSE SOME POWER ALONG WITH THE HEADER NOT WORKING EITHER. I CALLED NISSAN AND TOLD THEM THE PROBLEM. WELL THEY SENT ME A LETTER TELLING ME ABOUT AN INTERNAL MEMO THEY HAD REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE. I WAS ADVISED TO TAKE IT TO A NISSAN DEALER TO SEE IF IN FACT THAT WAS THE CASE. I DID AND IT WAS I SPOKE TO SOMEONE IN THEIR CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT WHO EXPLAINED THAT BECAUSE MY CAR WAS OVER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AMOUNT THAT HEY HAD INCREASED IT TO I WOULD HAVE TO PAY A DEDUCTIBLE OUT OF POCKET.... HERE IS MY MAJOR PROBLEM THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 80,000 MILES MY CAR HAS 93,000 MILE. THEY WILL REPLACE THE RADIATOR IF I PAY A DEDUCTIBLE OD $1000.00.. WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR A MANUFACTURE ERROR.? PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME I CAN NOT AFFORD TO DRIVE THIS CAR OR PAY SUCH HIGH DEDUCTIBLE. NISSAN NEEDS TO PAY FOR THE ENTIRE REPAIR.... MY VEHICLE HAS DEGRADED BRAKING PERFORMANCE. I INVESTIGATED AND DISCOVERED GEAR-OIL LEAKING FROM REAR AXLE ONTO BREAK ROTORS. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALS THIS IS AN EPIDEMIC. NHTSA ITEM NUMBER 10033306 INDICATES THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM FOR 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE AND DEGRADED BREAKING PERFORMANCE HAS PROBABLY CONTRIBUTED TO NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS ALREADY. IT MAY HAVE ALREADY RESULTED IN FATALITIES. AS A REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER, I URGE YOU TO INITIATE A RECALL OF ALL VEHICLES PRONE TO THIS DEFECT. IT CAN BE ELIMINATED BY SIMPLY REPLACING DEFECTIVE REAR-AXLE SEALS. *TR

I OWN A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA WITH 30,200 MILES ON IT. EARLIER THIS YEAR I FILLED MY GASTANK AND DROVE FROM STATION. 1 MILE DOWN THE ROAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON, THE GASTANK NEEDLED DROPPED TO EMPTY AND THE GAS WARNING LIGHT WENT ON. DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT. TOLD ME THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT WAS STUCK AND THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND WHEN I DROVE ABOUT 25 MILES THE GASTANK LEVEL WOULD GO BACK UP TO FULL AND THE LIGHT GO OFF. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT,HOWEVER, STAYED ON. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN I FILLED MY TANK. I RETURNED TO DEALER, HAD DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND VERIFIED THE PROBLEM. THEY TURNED OFF THE LIGHT. THE SAME PROBLEM CONTINUED BUT AFTER A FEW MORE FILLS THE GASTANK LEVEL STAYS ANYWHERE 1/2 FULL OR 1/4 FULL.. IN MAY I WAS CALLED BY NISSAN AND TOLD THERE MAY BE A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I CALLED THE DEALER AND NISSAN RECALLED THE 2006 AND 2008 YEAR XTERRAS BUT NOT THE 2007, HOWEVER, I HAVE VERIFIED THAT ALL THREE YEARS HAVE THE IDENTICAL FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT. I THEN CALLED NISSAN N.A.WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER AND AFTER 2 WEEKS AND 3 CALLS I RECEIVED A RETURN CALL BY A TECHNICIAN; WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF THE MFGRS WARRANTY AND NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ASSISTANCE. I ASKED FOR AND RECEIVED A WRITTEN CONFIRMATION OF THEIR DECISION. IT IS VERY DISCONCERTING TO CONTINUALLY DRIVE WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. SOMETHING ELSE INTERNALLY TO MY VEHICLE COULD CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO ON AND I WOULDN'T KNOW IT. ALSO UNLESS I RESET THE TRIP INDICATOR EACH TIME I FILL MY TANK I WOULD NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE LEFT IN THE TANK. BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE I HAD NISSAN REPLACE THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT AT MY OWN EXPENSE. I THINK THE 2007 XTERRA SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE MARCH 2010 RECALL OF THE 2006 AND 2008 XTERRAS BECAUSE THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM OR RECALLED NOW AS A STAND ALONE... *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH AND SHIFTING GEARS, THE CLUTCH FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE CONTACT DROVE EIGHTEEN MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE MECHANIC THAT PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED THE CLUTCH AGAIN. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE HEATER AND AIR CONDITIONER FUSES BECAME INOPERABLE. WHEN HE CONSULTED AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAN BLOWER WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FUSE FAILED AGAIN AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR TWICE. THE DEALER ALSO SUSPECTED THAT AN ELECTRICAL HARNESS MAY HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR BUT THE PARTS WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE END OF JUNE 2010. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO CONFIRMED THAT HIS WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED; THEREFORE, HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR EXPENSES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 67,000.

THE BRAKES ON MY 2007 NISSAN XTERRA WOULD NOT FULLY ACTIVATE AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. I WAS ENTERING I-95 SOUTHBOUND AND TRAFFIC WAS STOPPED ON THE RAMP FROM LEM TURNER ROAD. I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THERE WAS A LIGHT RAIN AND I HAD RECENTLY DRIVEN THROUGH STANDING WATER WHICH WAS APPROXIMATELY ONE INCH DEEP. THE VEHICLE TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY EIGHT CAR LENGTHS, DURING WHICH TIME I HAD THE BRAKE PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED, BEFORE COMING TO A STOP WITHIN A FEW FEET OF A STOPPED CAR. I DID NOT DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL FULLY UNTIL I FOUND THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING IN A NORMAL MANNER. I EXITED THE INTERSTATE, AND ATTEMPTED TO DUPLICATE THE SYMPTOMS IN A VACANT PARKING LOT AT ROOSEVELT MALL, BUT WAS UNABLE. AFTER CONTINUING HOME, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN AS I ATTEMPTED TO STOP TO ENTER RAMP ONTO 20TH ST EXPRESSWAY FROM MAIN STREET. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 5800 MILES ON IT. I HAVE A CLEAN MOTOR VEHICLE RECORD AND AM CONSIDERED A SAFE DRIVER BY THE STATE OF FLORIDA. THIS VERY WELL COULD HAVE ENDED MUCH DIFFERENTLY HAD I NOT BEEN DRIVING DEFENSIVELY. I AM GOING TO CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP IN THE MORNING, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 06, 2007 IN ORDER TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM ADDRESSED. *JB
