The ICCU failed to charge the car via level 1 (120VAC or 240VAC), but does charge using public DC chargers. Fortunately the issue occurred at home so no traffic issue occurred, in this case. The level 1 charger indicated a fault and would not charge the car. I drove the vehicle without any issues to a public charger and established that the DC charging is working. Hyundai repair center diagnosed the problem and confirmed that a repair is needed. I am currently awaiting a repair. The fault was diagnosed on January 22, 2026 and as of June 01, 2026 no repair has been done.

ICCU failure. I received a message that said "Check electric vehicle system." Then seconds later another message that said "Stop vehicle and check power supply." Vehicle became nonfunctional (with my [XXX] daughter in the car) and had to have it towed to the nearest Hyundai dealership. The battery is charged but will not start. It says pull over safely before it goes completely dead.i can jump the battery but it does not continue after being turned off. Slow and hard turning.

I tried to start car and it started but would not go into drive. A message saying "12v battery voltage low. Stop safely." Was on the screen. I turned the car off and back on and was able to drive home. Once home I tried to charge the car but it would not charge. However I left it plugged in and came back several hours later and the car had charged some. I started the car and the messages did not appear. The next day i went to drive the car and the car was totally dead. The auto key would not unlock the car. Thank goodness , I was not driving when the battery died. I took it to the dealer. This is the 2nd 12v battery I have had to replace in 4 years. The first replacement was covered under warranty. I asked them to try to identify the root cause of the 12v batteries dying so quickly and they claim it is only the 12v battery. I feel unsafe driving the car now knowing it could happen at any moment again, maybe while driving. I think the problem is related to the ICCU as my symptoms are very similar to other people with ICCU issues.

My 2022 Ioniq5 left me stranded late at night in a freezing rainstorm in March of 2024 when I was 75 miles from home at it failed to charge both D/C fast charging and A/C level 2 charging, despite my trying several different chargers. The car gave me the dreaded "Check E/V System" warning when it failed to charge. It turned out to be the notorious ICCU but also the AC inverter, which had to be replaced. It took 12 days. The dealership's initial diagnosis was something draining the 12-volt battery, so I asked if they also replaced that. They said no because it had tested fine, but 9 days after I picked up the car, it did not start because it turned out the 12-volt battery was dead, and my dealership spent 2 days getting Hyundai to approve replacement of the 12-vold under warranty. Last month, 17 January 2026, my Ioniq5 again left me stranded. This time 120 miles from home in a snowstorm. It D/C charged for 10 minutes before the charging stopped and it gave me the dreaded “Check E/V System” warning. I tried two nearby Tesla Superchargers with my Hyundai issued adapter, and they both failed. I had just enough charge to make it to a dealership 110 miles from my home, where the vehicle stayed for nearly a month while they diagnosed and repaired it by replacing the AC inverter (note that had been replaced the last time) and also the AC compressor. The ICCU failures are well-known and well-documented, but the AC inverters that failed on me twice do not seem to be as common and should probably be investigated. In both cases I was stranded on Saturdays when no dealership service departments were open until the following Monday, so I had to pay for a motel overnight, which Hyundai refused to reimburse because I was not at least 150 miles from home.
Feb 20, 2026
The Dealer states my ICCU has failed and will be replaced. My vehicle could no longer charge on AC power (level 1 or level 2), and eventually had to be taken to the dealer because it could not be charged at home any longer due to the ICCU failing.

While driving vehicle it flashed warning to check battery and power was severely reduced, limited to about 25 mph. Battery and EV warning triangle appeared. Then within less then a minute it brought up additional warning to "Stop Vehicle and Check Power Supply" and power was further reduced to less than 10-15 mph. Car now also displayed turtle icon. After safely getting to parking spot vehicle began to shut off critical systems or displays intermittently before eventually fully shutting itself off.

Iccu failure unable to charge or drive
Jan 19, 2026
The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failed - the car is no longer capable of driving due to the lack of ability to charge the battery. I was able to get it to the repair center. The ICCU on this model can fail in multiple ways, which includes the vehicle becoming inoperable at highway speeds. The issue first started 2025/11/13. I tried multiple charging units. It flipped the breaker on my home charger and caused issues for a public charger.

2022 Ioniq 5 SE. ICCU failed April 2026 with around 29325 miles. Original owner. Purchased June 2022. I had the original Recall 272 software update performed back in February 2025, but the hardware still failed a year later. **Timeline of Failure:** 1. **Phase 1 (The Trigger):** Level 2 charging stopped unexpectedly before reaching the limit. It tripped my house breaker and unfortunately killed my Level 2 EVSE (Grizzl-E) with a stuck relay. Didn't think too much of it because I had to be somewhere. Car started up normally and I was able to drive throughout the day with no problems. 2. **Phase 2 (The Warning):** The next day, I attempted Level 1 charging. It immediately tripped the breaker. I tried another outlet on a different breaker; the breaker didn't trip, but the car failed to initiate a charge after three attempts. 3. **Phase 3 (Dashboard Error):** After third failed attempt with the L1, I took a peek inside and saw the dashboard had a yellow triangle. With the charger still plugged in, I sat in the driver's seat and turned the car on. The **"Check EV System"** error appeared. I turned off the car and went inside to call the dealer. I called the dealer and they said I can have it towed there. They also scheduled an appointment for the next morning. I went back to car to attempt to position the car to make it easier for the tow truck, but the check ev error was not there when I turned on the car. It said ready and I was able to drive around the block a few times so I figured I'll just try to drive to the dealer. I drove the car to the dealer the next morning. It took **one week** to get my car back. **Diagnostics & Parts Replaced:** The dealer confirmed the following codes and performed a full hardware replacement: * **DTC P1E1300:** AC Power Module Failure * **DTC P1A9096:** DC/DC Converter Fault * **ICCU Part:** `36400-1XAA0-AQQH` * **HV Fuse:** `375F2-GI040-QQH` * **Coolant:** Install of Pink Antifreeze (`00232-19098`)

The car lost power while driving and an electrical warning was displayed on the screen. The issue was later diagnosed as a failure of the ICCU and blown fuse that had been previously recalled and replaced. Now it needs to be replaced again.
Apr 22, 2026
ICCU failure occurred while vehicle was operating at 30 MPH, after being charged the night prior and unplugged in the morning at 100% capacity. A sudden pop was heard, and the vehicle indicated that an electrical fault would require the vehicle to be shut down as soon as safely possible. The vehicle went into limp mode and would not exceed 25 MPH.

Car lost propulsion in the middle of the road and would drive over 20 MPH. ICCU failure, which nearly caused me to get into an accident.

Finished charge, low battery indicator on the dashboard. started to drive, within mile "pull over immediatedly" well documented and continued flaw with vechile ICCU component (that I had the software "patches" applied). Car will no longer accept charge (so now has the remaining charge before being a 3 ton brick) and cannot not be driven as if the 12v battery loses charge (which it will) I will lose powersteering and brakes.

Q: What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? A: ICCU failed - Not available for inspection (at least at this time, but willing to try and make it work). Q: How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? A: The ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) is a safety-critical component subject to federal recalls 24V-204 and 24V-868. (My vehicle had all recalls performed prior to this failure.) The failure occurred while driving which was indicated by a “popping” sound. It is contextually important to note that the ICCU is responsible for charging the 12v battery, had the 12v battery failed during the duration of my drive I would have experienced a sudden loss of motive power. A sudden loss of motive power is an unacceptable risk to public safety. Q: Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? A: Yes, the problem has been reproduced and confirmed to be an ICCU failure by an official Hyundai service center. Q: Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? A: No. Q: Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? A: Symptoms first appeared February 14, 2026. The first symptom of failure was the signature “pop” sound that the ICCU failure is known for. Only after my drive and upon attempting L1/L2 charging did my dash warning indicate “Check Electric Vehicle System.” I also checked for codes with my OBDII scanner, and it showed no codes.
Feb 20, 2026
While making the short drive to work on surface streets I was given a warning in an amber circle to check the electrical system. Moments later I was presented with a warning in a red circle reading "Stop vehicle and check power supply"; accompanying this warning was a drastic loss in power. Had I been on the highway I would not have been able to maintain speed with the likelihood of being stranded in an unsafe location. The dealership reported that the ICCU (internal charge control unit) had failed. This is the second such failure on this car. It has been over 4 weeks since the dealership received the car, and Hyundai has not been able to supply repair parts.
Feb 17, 2026
The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) has intermittent failures. During the last failure, my wife was on a busy freeway (Interstate 5 near Hwy 120 northbound) in heavy but fast moving traffic. She was driving in the #2 lane (of 4 lanes) when she experienced sudden loss of propulsion. The vehicle slowed to 5 MPH in traffic that was moving 70 to 80 MPH. She had to traverse through the #3 and #4 lanes to the narrow emergency shoulder. Cars were honking and flipping her off. In the emergency lane, the vehicle completely died after 30 to 60 seconds. She was at risk of being rear ended during the dangerous 5 MPH lane changes and in the time parked in the emergency lane. She could not start the car for 15 minutes, after which the system came back to life. She was then able to start it and continue home. The first time the ICCU failed was in a parking lot. This is a known defect with Hyundai which they have attempted to rectify with Recall Campaign 272. However, they refuse to replace the ICCU. After the first event, they replaced the battery after 22 months/32429 miles. Now they want to replace the battery again after another 20 months/34k miles. What they don't get, is that the batteries have not prematurely failed. Instead the ICCU has intermittently and temporarily drawn the batteries down causing the vehicle to lose propulsion and die. They refuse to replace the ICCU because an error code they were looking for was not in the memory. They have performed three software updates on three separate dealer visits, but the issue has not been resolved. During the last visit they kept my vehicle for six weeks while I appealed through Hyundai Consumer Affairs and the Service manager appealed through his Dealer rep. But the factory engineers held firm and would not approve the ICCU warranty replacement, and instead wanted me to pay for 12V battery replacement. We don't know if there were any warning lights since my wife was busy navigating the danger.
Feb 07, 2026
My 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 has experienced two ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) failures, both completely immobilizing the vehicle. •First failure: November 2024 •Second failure: December 31, 2025 (confirmed by dealer 1/13/26) •Downtime: Over 45 days total •All recall work and maintenance were performed at the same Hyundai dealer, under active warranty, but the recall did not prevent the second failure. Safety Risk: These ICCU failures cause sudden loss of propulsion, leaving the vehicle stranded and creating a serious safety hazard. The second failure after recall indicates the repair is inadequate. Luckily mine failed at home before departing for an errand, but I am gravely concerned about others not as fortunate or for myself should the issue recur while I am traveling on a public road. Examples of this are reported online in a variety of forums. Widespread Issue: Thousands of owners report similar ICCU failures, often after recall repairs, on forums and social media. There is also ongoing Canadian litigation addressing the same defect. Requested Action: •Investigate repeated ICCU failures in Hyundai/Kia EVs •Evaluate the adequacy of recall repairs •Require Hyundai to implement a permanent fix •Take appropriate safety action to protect vehicle owners

The ICCU failed while 300 miles from home. I was unable to charge the car with level 2 charging to get home. Luckily level 3 charging still worked. The ICCU breaking can also disrupt propulsion, so I'm lucky it didn't break to that degree while driving. The dealership ultimately replaced my ICCU. There were no warning signs. In fact, the car didn't even throw a code or error. It simply wouldn't charge.

ICCU failure ICCU fuse popped, vehicle went into low power mode I was able to get it off the road into the county transfer station. I got it towed to a local auto shop as Hyundai roadside wasn't accepting tows due to weather. Hyundai towed the car to the dealership the next day.
Mar 13, 2026
ICCU failed at ~27,000 miles. Loud pop came from the under the vehicle. Afterwards, car could only accelerate to 35 mph. Dashboard error message told driver there was an electrical issue and advised us to pull over. Car had to be towed. Currently at the dealer awaiting a replacement. Dealership said it could take "weeks or months" to get a replacement part. Sudden loss of propulsion is a safety risk to other drivers. We were on the highway and could not get to speed. ICCU malfunctions appear to be very common with Hyundai EVs. Hyundai appears to be aware that this is a problem but doesn't seem very interested in solving it.

The 2022 ioniq 5 was bought used with 43k MI and within 2k miles of driving in 50-85F climate and 7kwh l2 charging I witnessed the orange check EV light flash while I was driving on the highway. I exited and powrr cycled the car and the EV light remained. The next morning the orange check EV light was gone. I went to the dealership for a diagnostic and they said they could not replicate the error code or had found any history of the error code coming up without proving to me or showing me any substantial evidence that they tested for anything at the Escondido Hyundai dealership in California. I escalated the issue with Hyundai corporate and was assigned a case manager that ultimately gave me the same answer that they could not replicate any codes and that I should take the car back and drive normally. After extensive research I found that the orange check ev light is a more dangerous sign than the red check ev light because it indicates that the ICCU unit is about to fail. Research shows that due to thermal stress the ICCU will inevitably fail after the orange check AV light comes on. Further research shows that Hyundai had officially stated a 1% failure rate for the ICCU unit in all of their EVs built on the e-gmp cars to date but some projections are at 10% failure rate or higher and that Hyundai Kia is downplaying the issue similarly to how they tried to do the same with the Theta 2 GDI engines that they had been sued and were responsible to pay over $300 or so million dollars as well as $24 million to a employee whistleblower a few years ago. I highly suggest that the nhtsa or other organizations that have the power to force Hyundai Kia to do the right thing so that no further lives are at risk from these ICCU units that have flawed designs that have not been fixed, only remedied via software update or replaced with refurbished units at the most with inevitable failure as thermal stress is experienced.

I am filing this complaint regarding Hyundai Motor America's failure to complete a vehicle repair in a timely manner on my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 (VIN: [XXX] ), which has been at Hyundai of Leander, an authorized Hyundai service center in Leander, Texas, since September 2025 — more than six months — awaiting a replacement high-voltage battery. (Case No. XXX) I purchased this vehicle in September 2025 from Apple Sport Imports in [XXX] . The vehicle was sent immediately to Hyundai of Leander for an open repair and I never took full delivery. I was informed the replacement battery was initially allocated to a different dealership and a new order could not be placed until approximately January 2026. As of March 2026, Hyundai's own case manager confirmed in writing on March 30, 2026 only that they are working to determine the battery's arrival date with no confirmed completion date provided. Since November 2025, I have made 5 monthly payments of $513.92 totaling $2,569.60 on a vehicle I have never driven, with a sixth payment of $513.92 due in April 2026. I am also flagging a potential records discrepancy for NHTSA's awareness. When I checked my VIN on Hyundai's recall lookup website, Recall 272 — covering an ICCU software update, fuse replacement, and ICCU replacement on 2022-2024 MY IONIQ 5 vehicles — is listed as a Closed Campaign with a completion date of October 24, 2025. My vehicle was physically at Hyundai of Leander awaiting parts on that date and remains there today. I do not know whether this recall is related to the current open repair, but I am flagging the potential discrepancy for investigation. When I raised this with Hyundai of Leander's service department, I received no clear explanation. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate Hyundai Motor America's recall fulfillment practices and the accuracy of their recall completion records for this vehicle. On January 19, 2026, the vehicle lost power while driving and required a tow to the local dealership. After inspection, the dealership determined that the ICCU was at fault and needed to be replaced. The ICCU part was backordered. The vehicle was inoperable for 6 weeks as we waited for the part to be available and installed.

After pre warming the car in the garage, I left for work. Three minutes into the drive I heard a single popping sound from the passenger side rear of the car. I then received an error on the dash "Stop Vehicle and check power supply". I them drove 4 more miles to work with the hazards on. Two hours later I attempted to drive it to the dealer and it stopped .5 miles away. Hyundai had it towed the rest of the way.

This is an EV vehicle. This is a recurrent problem with the Ioniq 5 and is all over the internet. For me this is the 2nd electrical failure. The first time the accessory batter failed and the ICCU controller failed and had to be replaced. Now its at the shop for the 2nd time for the same failure. Not sure if its the ICCU again or not. In and of itself not a problem to send it off to fix, The major issue is how it fails. There is no warning, If you are on the highway going 70 mph it goes flat... no propulsion. This gives you no or little power to get to a secure spot. It then is only capable of about 20 mph. This is dangerous as hell. The first time it died completely and wouldn't move. For myself, i was lucky i was on a local road. I was driving. For my wife, who drives this car it would be harrowing. This is a recurring problem with this vehicle. A solution has not been found other than to swap parts. Hyundai need to be put on notice for a permanent fix.

There was a failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) on my Hyundai Ioniq 5. We were driving home from the beach, approximately 1 mile away. When I turned the car on and started driving home, the dashboard lit up with an error and the vehicle turned on the "turtle" mode, which limited my speed. I managed to make it into my subdivision where it finally died and I was unable to get it into garage. Vehicle would not turn on, would start up momentarily, lots of errors, screen would flash, and then nothing. Very scarily, the wheels would not park and remained in neutral. This made it easy to load onto a tow truck, but scary that it could only be stopped on a flat surface. Mine and my wife's safety was at risk, as we were nearly stranded on the side of the road, I hate to imagine if this happened on a highway. The dealer confirmed our ICCU blew and we had our car back about 2 weeks later. The dealer inspected and replaced the component under warranty. This ICCU issue must be fixed by Hyundai, or at least extend the warranty. This is unacceptable.

Became a slow-moving hazard while driving back home a few miles limited to 40MPH during winter conditions. Problem was confirmed by dealership service center No other warnings prior to sudden "pop" and dashboard warning to check EV electrical system.

The ICCU has failed. This component was replaced approximately one year ago as part of a recall, but it has failed again. The vehicle is currently parked and cannot be driven until Hyundai provides a replacement part, which may take up to three months. The failure presents a safety concern, as the vehicle can shut off while driving and leave the driver stranded. The Hyundai dealership has confirmed that the replacement part provided by Hyundai—the ICCU—is the component that failed. There were no prior warning signs of failure, other than the vehicle refusing to charge on a Level 2 charger.

I am submitting an update to my existing complaint regarding the ICCU safety recall on my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. Since my original submission, my vehicle has been at authorized Hyundai dealerships since July 2025 and remained undiagnosed and unrepaired for over three months. During this time, I received inconsistent and misleading information from both Hyundai corporate and the dealerships regarding the status of the recall repair, as documented via emails, texts, and recorded calls. On 10/31/2025, the dealership informed me that the issue may involve a floor harness/wiring problem and it is out of warranty; however, this appears related to the ICCU safety recall, and Hyundai has not provided a firm timeline for repair. Hyundai’s delay has caused significant inconvenience, as I have been without my vehicle while continuing to make car payments and insurance payments, and arranging temporary transportation. Additionally, Hyundai and the dealerships provided multiple assurances that the vehicle was being diagnosed and repaired, which were later contradicted, reflecting misleading and deceptive practices. I request that NHTSA consider this update as part of my ongoing complaint and investigate Hyundai’s failure to provide timely and adequate recall service, as well as the misinformation surrounding this safety recall.

While the vehicle was parked in a garage and charging overnight, I briefly went to the vehicle to retrieve an item from the back seat. I was barefoot at the time. I opened the driver‑side rear door and reached inside with my right hand while my left hand was near the upper door area where the door seal is located. When my left hand grazed the door frame, it felt unusually sharp. When I touched the area again to determine what was sharp, I received a significant electric shock. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms before the incident. The presence of electrical current on an exterior door surface poses a safety risk during normal vehicle use.

ICCU failed second time wednesday february 18, 2026. First ICCU failed November 2024 and replaced under warranty. The car went in turtle mode.....20 mph or less. Limped along safely on side of roadway and used sideroads. The dealer says the ICCU and fuse need to be replaced. The dealer wants me to pay for this part, third time is a charm? I don't think I could ever trust this part again. They want to give me the exact same part they gave me when the ICCU failed b4. There were 2 messages: stop vehicle and check power supply ......check electric vehicle system. They were timely and made this failure a bit safer. The dealer inspected the vehicle but not the manufacturer or anyone else. The car is at Balise Hyundai Fairfield CT I BELIEVE 10% OF THESE ICCUs ARE DEFECTIVE.

Ok.... So, if anyone reads about Hyundai Electric line.... Ionic series... they would know that since Day 1, Hyundai has had problems with their electrical system. It 1st started with the system never charged the onboard standard 12V battery. I had to purchase Jumpstart boxes, I couldn't run my car ever on acc bc since day 1, my car has never been charging the onboard 12v battery. This caused me to not be able to start my car on more than 5 occasions. I had to ask strangers for help at times, locked out of my car on the side of the street, in parking lots, driving to Auto Zone after a complete trickle charge didn't work bc battery is so drained. During this drive, my cars safety features wouldn't work correctly, everything blinking and i had to make it to Auto Zone to have to buy a new GSM battery. I feared for my life on that drive. Certainly a safety issue. When I asked Hyundai on numerous occasions, they said there's no way for us to test if the recall fix we did actually is helping the issue. So I had to buy my own DC volt meter. I took that car in 4 times to deal with this issue. Now, after my last visit to Holler Hyundai in Winter Park a few months ago, now my car won't charge at home. I tested it with the 2nd charger. F2 fault code on standard home charger. Red lights on my ChargePoint charger. Car charges fine at DC Supercharger (6 times as expensive). I have told Daytona Hyundai multiple times (General Manager knows me) about how I have taken this in to have this problem fixed on many occasions. The GM said he apologizes, doesn't know why it wasn't fixed, they were unprofessional aside from him making many mistakes. The original dealer i bought it from was a bad experience and I do not trust them at all and would not buy from them ever again. I have video and pics of spiders in my car/roaches, etc. Dealership didn't even respond after I emailed them pics. I have bought and owned over 30 cars. This definately needs attention

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The ICCU failed. The car won't charge on a level 1, 2, or 3 charger. The failure happened in the middle of a charging session. Since failing when trying to charge the car says "charging unsuccessful". The dealer has had the car for 28 days and won't tell me when it will be fixed. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Yes. My family. Thankfully the failure happened in our garage. If it had of happened when we were away from home we would have been left stranded unable to charge. Also, if the ICCU fails while driving the car loses all power and comes to a stop. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. It has been at the dealer for 28 days Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? It has been inspected by the dealer Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, there were no warnings prior. All ICCU related recalls had been performed.

I plugged the car into our Juicebox charger and waited for the car to say “charging scheduled” before I walked away. Leaving an appt and the car gave a battery ! Warning. While is was looking for a place to pull over the Stop Check Vehicle Electric System. I pulled into a parking lot when the Turtle came up and I was barely able to back into a space. The car was dead within 10 mins of leaving until I parked. I commute daily on an interstate and that would not have given me much time to pull of the interstate to a safe location. Longer warning is needed. Dealer has the car and confirmed it is the ICCU unit and no eta on the part. Yet they are selling 2025 Ionic 5.

While charging at a level 2 charger (6 kW) the car stop charging at 61% for no apparent reason. I was unable to restart charging. Within 2-3 minutes of starting the car and driving, received a warning to “check the vehicle electrical system” and then within another minute or two, another warning to “stop vehicle and check power supply.” I was traveling under 20 mph the entire time.

On November 29 2025 my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 with 49000 miles was warming up in the driveway. I heard a pop sound from the back seat like a soda can being opened (or a fuse blowing). Immediately afterwards warning lights appeared on the dash saying "Check Electrical System." The vehicle lost power to accelerate and could not be driven effectively. After a few moments, another error saying "Power is Limited" appeared. This could have happened on the roadway which would have been hazardous to myself and other drivers. The car is scheduled to be diagnosed next week by Simmons Rockwell Hyundai in Elmira, NY. These symptoms are similar to the hundreds of other reports of ICCU failures in this car and similar models. On Sept 10, 2025 the car was previously issued software updates to the ICCU software , which were required under NHTSA Recall Number 24V868000. If this problem is proven to be an ICCU failure, the experience with this car is an example of the 2025 software update failing to prevent the ICCU Failure. I request swift action from the NHTSA to compel Hyundai to implement a permanent fix for my vehicle and all other afflicted models in order to make Americas roadways safe again. Until then, everyone should be extra careful when driving behind a Hyundai Ioniq, 5 because it is at risk of dying and coming to a complete stop at any moment. Hyundai is a large corporation and has the resources and technology to fix this, but they have not done so, despite there being more than 300 complaints to the NHTSA about these cars at the time of this writing.

On Saturday, [XXX], at approximately [XXX], I drove my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 north on [XXX] . The car was operating normally. I stopped at the red light at the corner of [XXX] and noticed a large red circle with a "Check electrical system" warning on the driver's display screen. When the traffic light turned green, I pressed the accelerator pedal, and the car did not move. I looked at the "Park, Neutral, Reverse, Drive" shifter. The "P" was lit up, indicating the car was in "Park." I attempted to switch to "Drive," and the status indicator remained in "P." I then pushed the "EV START STOP" switch to see if I could cycle the vehicle off and then back on to clear the problem. The switch had no effect. [XXX] is a busy four-lane, undivided street near the University of Colorado at Boulder campus. I selected the hazard flashers and called 911 to alert the Boulder Police Department that I was in a car that was immobilized in the middle of the right-hand northbound lane. Cars had to swerve to avoid me. The Police Department dispatched a vehicle that arrived 10 minutes later, pulled up behind me, and put its flashing lights on to alert traffic. While waiting for the tow truck, I received another alert on the driver's display that informed me that the 12-volt battery was nearly completely discharged, and I had 10 minutes of power left. The warning counted the remaining minutes to 0, and the displays shut down. From the first warning message to the shutdown, I could not turn the car system off or shift the car out of the park. The tow company had to put dollies under the rear wheels of the Ioniq 5 and lift the front end off the ground to tow the vehicle, as all four wheels were locked. The car was towed to Crossroads Hyundai in Loveland, Colorado. It had just been serviced to address all the recall issues, including the ICCU software update. The car has approximately 16,000 miles on it. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The vehicle lost traction power, failed to respond to presses to the accelerator and coasted to a stop. It gave no indication on the dash that there were any problems. Putting the car in park and then selecting drive again restored traction power and the car responded to pressing of the accelerator pedal. The car was not turned off and back on. During the incident: - The brakes, steering, air conditioning, radio and other electrical equipment continued to operate normally. - The car was configured for "Level 2" regen braking, but during the incident, when all pressure was removed from the accelerator pedal, the car did not "feel" like it slowed as normally did during Level 2 regen when there is no application of the accelerator. - The car was configured for "ECO" mode. The drive mode was switched to Normal and Sport during the incident but it had no effect. - The Power/Charge gauge on the dash neither indicated Power when the accelerator was pressed nor indicated Charge when coasting (as would be expected for Level 2 regen) or when the brake pedal was pressed. Car Information: - The car had about 75% charge and reported about ~260 miles of range. - The manufacturers app has not reported any "DTC" codes. - The car has no open recalls at this time. - Service Campaign 997 was completed August 23rd at dealer. - Service Campaign 9A1 was completed August 23rd at dealer. Additional Information: - A previous event similar to the above described event happened on August 21st where the vehicle lost traction power but gave no indication that anything was wrong. - Reported it to the dealer, but they were unable to find anything wrong or recreate the problem. - They applied the ICCU software update.

I have had all recall updates on the car including a recent one on 10/13/2025. Turned on the heater on the first cold night in Dallas this fall and got the engine warning light. Checked the ODB and code was P1A90(96). I was able to drive it to the dealer with a 40 mph max speed. The funny thing is my ICCU has already been replaced under warranty once like 16 months ago, so it seems the replacement parts aren't much better than the original. Dealer confirmed it is an ICCU failure and I'm now waiting on the part. Hyundai has NOT fixed this ICCU problem even when they replace with a new ICCU. Someone needs to hold them accountable for finding a real fix.

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The contact stated that the electrical charger was overheating, and the 12-volt battery was draining without warning. The contact stated that while charging the vehicle, the contact heard an explosion. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the message "Stop Driving Immediately - Return to Dealer"; the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle experienced a loss of automotive power. The contact stated that on one occasion after turning off the vehicle, the battery remained active for 3 days, causing the battery to become drained. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was informed that the water pump, the EV battery, the charge point, the inside batteries, the sensors, the navigation system, were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

On the morning of February 3rd, 2025, while driving, I heard a pop. A few seconds later, as I approached an intersection, a yellow warning appeared that instructed me to "Check the Electric Vehicle System". It minimized to a small caution light. I attempted to continue driving, pulling through the intersection; however, the vehicle had an abrupt loss of power; I was unable to proceed over 20-25 mph. In total no more than 2-3 mins passed from hearing the pop to loss of power. I pulled into a neighborhood, stopped the car, and consulted the owner's manual for direction on the warning light. While parked, and an estimated 8-10 minutes after hearing the first pop, I received a second warning, this time in red. It said "Turn power off immediately. Check power supply." I turned car off/contacted roadside, as advised in my manual, for a tow. After review at the dealership, I was originally told I needed a new 12V that it had died while I was driving. I authorized the replacement, though I also indicated to the service department that if that CAN happen, it really does not make sense AND there should be a different warning indicator for a failed 12v that could be replaced roadside versus instructing for a tow. However, after replacing my 12v the service advisor indicated that the car pulled codes and that the ICCU and its fuse seemed to have failed, which likely caused the damage to the 12v battery. After a few days of testing, my car was cleared for replacement of the failed ICCU by Hyundai's techline on February 10th. The dealer then provided a vehicle for my use while I await repairs. I was told a part could arrive the 18th or the 25th and the repair could take 3-4 days once the parts are received. It is still in shop with no updates. On 2/13/25 I filed a complaint to Hyundai; I have not received a response to date. All recalls for these issues had been performed on my vehicle in November 2024; we can no longer, in good conscience, use this vehicle. It is unsafe.

I have a Hyundai Ioniq 5. I purchased it in July 2022 and have been driving it with no major issues except for a couple recall updates. On Monday, [XXX] I was driving home on the Highway when a warning light came on telling me to check EV Connection, it was an orange message. Then the light and message switched to red and displayed a battery symbol. The message said to stop vehicle and check power supply. My acceleration slowed down and I couldn't go above 25 mph despite attempts to speed up. There were many cars on the road when this happened, and I automatically turned on my emergency blinkers. There was a large 16-wheeler behind me that noted something was wrong and slowed down with his emergency lights blinking as well to support me. I panicked and found the nearest exit to come off the highway and before I could make it to the traffic light, the car shut off unexpectedly and completely stopped with no warning. Attempts to restart the vehicle did not yield positive results. After 2 hours of waiting for a tow truck in the middle of the road blocking traffic and waving people around my car, I was able to tow my vehicle to a dealership in NJ close by my house. As it was evening time, I left it at the dealership service center and dropped keys in drop box. I spent several days on the phone with Hyundai Service Center arguing to get my car checked as they told me that appointments were all booked, despite this being an emergency. I had no idea what was happening, but it was clearly inoperable, and I made that very clear. Finally, today, Thursday, [XXX] they confirmed that diagnostic testing showed ICCU failure. They advised that the part is on back-order, and they issued me a loaner for the time being. I have no idea how long this will take to fix. Luckily, I didn't have an accident, although very well could have with how quickly the issue escalated. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Was driving the vehicle in a local road and felt sudden drop in vehicle speed. Had to press hard the acceleration pedal to avoid any collision from behind. The vehicle could not gain enough speed in a ~45~60mile speed zone and driven ~2miles slowly to work place. The vehicle had to be towed to a local delearship as they suggested. The warning message was 'Stop vehicle and check Power supply' immediately after and changed to 'Check EV System' when started ~1hr later at the time of towing. The local dealership diagnosed it to be needing a new ICCU board, integrated charge control unit, which is in back order for ~2weeks (vehicle is still at dealership). In hindsight (after hearing recent news on ICCU failure of Ioniq5), the vehicle had a related issue in Feb 2023. At that time, the vehicle electrical system got blacked-out in my garage (it didn't respond to any button pressing with completely dark dashboard screen). It was towed to a local dealership since jump jump start could not fix it. They replaced a 12V battery for which local dealership could not give me convencing reason for the dead 12V battery .

Driving the car about at 45mph then I heard a pop sound from the rear of the car. Car displayed warning "Check Electrical Vehicle System." I pull over, shut it off, then restarted it. The "check Electrical Vehicle System" light stills on then an emergency message displayed 'Stop Vehicle and Check Power Supply.' When I tried to drive to a safe place I noticed the car would not drive faster than 25mph. If this would have happened in a highway this could have been a safety issue. Dealership confirmed that the Integrated Charge Circuit Unit (ICCU) needs to be replaced.

This vehicle can use regenerative braking to slow fully to a stop. However, using regen to slow sharply does not activate the brake lights unless the accelerator pedal is fully released. This means that you can slow at a significant rate without alerting vehicles behind you that you are slowing. Vehicle should activate brake lights when slowing beyond a specific rate. This has been the case since vehicle delivery (3/28/22) and continues today. Occurs at all speeds.

Brake lights during I-Pedal or 1 Pedal driving modes. When under "I-Pedal" or 1 pedal driving mode brake lights do not engage unless foot is fully off the accelerator pedal. This is concerning as the vehicle can brake rather agressively with no indicition to the drivers behind you. The brake lights should illuminate when a sufficient amount of braking is occuring, not just when the accelerator is fully disengaged.
May 26, 2023
Rear brake lights do not properly come on in certain driving modes (i-pedal). The lights will only turn on if you completely release the accelerator pedal. The problem is, that you can significantly reduce your speed down to a stop without ever fully releasing the accelerator all the way.

I am writing to report a serious safety incident involving my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and to request a thorough investigation and guidance on next steps. On Jan. 3, 2026, at approximately 6:15 p.m. on a snowy day, we parked our car in the driveway of a weekend rental home near Lake Tahoe, CA. The driveway had a slight slope toward the house, and we backed the car down the driveway with the rear of the car facing the house. My husband turned off the car, then all five occupants exited the vehicle, closed the doors, and began unloading items from the trunk. The car began rolling backwards toward us and the house. It only stopped after pinning my husband into a snowbank created by a snowplow. The other three adults and our [XXX] niece narrowly avoided being struck. While pinned behind the vehicle, my husband had to dig out some snow to reach into his pants pocket and retrieve the key fob. I then moved the car forward a few feet to free him. Although he was pinned in the snow, my husband was (thankfully) not seriously injured. After freeing my husband, I put the car in Park and turned it off. In this model, the parking brake engages automatically; there is no separate parking brake button or lever. A few minutes later, without anyone in or near the vehicle, the car again rolled backwards down the driveway into the same snowbank. Tracks in the snow clearly indicate that the wheels rotated and the car rolled; it was not sliding on ice with the brakes applied. In other words, the parking brake and/or Park mechanism failed to hold the vehicle in place in sub freezing, snowy conditions. The temperature at this location and time was in the mid 20s °F. After returning home from our trip, we took the car to our Hyundai service center, which has performed all maintenance since we purchased it in 2022. The service center performed all standard diagnostics but was unable to replicate the failure conditions. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

When coming to a stop on a slight incline, the vehicle will come to a full and complete stop and occasionally begin to roll backwards after half a 2nd without changing brake pedal position. If the brake pedal is not push further down, the vehicle will continue to roll backwards. I have tested this on multiple IONIQ 5 models with the same result (2022 and 2023). This could cause a collision if there is another car behind the problem vehicle. No warning lamps. Both vehicles have done this since new. Nothing is wrong with either of the vehicles according to multiple dealers.
Aug 06, 2025
The IONIQ 5, like other electric vehicles, uses regenerative breaking. Regenerative breaking can be set at level 1, 2, 3, or i-pedal mode. This determines the strength in which the car will engage regenerative breaking automatically when the position of the accelerator petal is raised above the current speed. i-pedal mode is full one-pedal driving, allowing the driver to slow to a stop without use of the break pedal at all. At level 2, 3, or i-pedal, the car is capable of decelerating at a significant rate even when the driver is still pressing down on the pedal. For example, if you consider it as a percentage and take "foot off the pedal" as 0%, and "pedal pressed as far as it can go" as 100%, a driver could be traveling at 70 mph on the highway, with the pedal pressed at around 60%. The driver could then lift the pedal to only 30%, and the regenerative breaking would then slow the car to, say, 30 mph. This deceleration can be very strong when set to a high regen level. However, the break lights do not illuminate unless the driver takes their foot completely off of the accelerator. In i-pedal mode especially, it is possible to decelerate from highway speed to a near stop in only a matter of seconds, without the break lights ever activating. Other EV manufacturers illuminate the break lights based on the cars measured deceleration when using regenerative breaking, and do not have this issue. If the driver has driven other EVs in the past and prefers the one pedal driving mode, it is likely they will not even know that their break lights are not illuminating during heavy deceleration, creating a significant danger of being rear ended when driving in heavy traffic.

Driving down I95 at 75mph. Heard loud "thunk" and car lost both power and brakes. Warning lights on the dashboard said to check brake system. I was unable to pull onto the shoulder due to construction barricades in place. The car slowed to 10mph and continued until I was able to pull over onto the shoulder. This was very dangerous given the highway traffic speeds, construction zone with limited emergency pull over space, and due to it being night time. Turning it off and on again restored power but it happened 4 more times before I was able to make it to an exit. This seems to be a common issue with this model. I have already performed the ICCU recall that was supposed to address this

This vehicle's brake lights do not come on when using regenerative braking. The regenerative braking can bring this car to a complete stop fairly quickly and the brake lights should come on. Several near misses of people almost rear-ending me, and a few got mad enough that I feared a road rage incident. This after only owning the car for 2 weeks.
May 25, 2023
When my IONIQ5 slowly starts and stops while the brake pedal engages or disengages, a noise, something like "click," comes from the rear passenger wheel house. Then, the brakes feel somewhat slippery. I think this has something to do with a transition between the regen brake and the traditional brake. The noise comes up every time I drive. Sometimes, I feel very unsafe because I am worried that the brake system fails.

May 25, 2023
Brake lights do not illuminate in 1 pedal driving unless accelerator pedal is fully released. I often bring the car to a complete stop with the brake lights never illuminating until I'm nearly stopped, around 5 mph or less. I often see people ride up behind me quickly and have to slam on their brakes as they don't realize I'm slowing down so rapidly. This can be repeated at any time. I have not spoken to a dealer or the manufacturer about this, nor has it been inspected by any party. There are no warning lights, this seems to be normal behavior, many others have reported on this issue as well. This has been happening since I got the car.
May 25, 2023
When using the car in "i-Pedal" (one-pedal driving) mode — the highest brake regen setting — the car can come to a complete stop whenever I lift my foot off the accelerator pedal, without touching the brake. While in this mode, when I fully lift my foot off the accelerator, the rear brake lights illuminate as expected, however, I often slowly reduce pressure on the accelerator pedal to come gently to a stop. I've noticed that it's possible (and often the case) that I can decelerate to a full stop without the brake lights illuminating until I fully release the brake pedal (at the very last moment before I stop). This means that I can be slowing down at a pretty significant rate without any indication to the drivers behind. Conversely, when using the automatic cruise control (that keeps the car a set distance from car ahead), the brake lights seem overly active and flash on and off quite frequently, especially when going down hills (even if there is no deceleration and the car seems to be coasting). Both of these anomalies seem to aggravate other drivers following the car for different reasons, since the vehicle's intent isn't being properly communicated. The lack of expected brake lights when decelerating gently via i-Pedal mode seems potentially dangerous. I would recommend that Hyundai tune their software so that the brake lights illuminate automatically past a set threshold of deceleration/regen braking (above what would be expected if the car were simply coasting), but not requiring the driver to fully lift off the pedal, since at that point, the rate of deceleration is already uncomfortably high for typical driving.

Feb 21, 2026
The component that malfunctioned is the Integrated Charge Control Unit (ICCU) and related high-voltage charging system in my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The ICCU controls AC (Level 2) charging, DC fast charging functions, and power delivery. The ICCU assembly and charging components were serviced and replaced by an authorized Hyundai dealer and are available for inspection through service records. This defect created a safety risk because the vehicle experienced complete charging failure and reduced-power operation. Loss of charging capability can leave drivers stranded, and reduced-power “turtle mode” conditions can limit acceleration and vehicle performance, creating hazards in traffic. The charge port has also not locked during charging, creating a potential risk of electrical arcing during DC fast charging. The failure was reproduced and confirmed by an authorized Hyundai dealer. In approximately January 2025 the vehicle would not charge and remained at the dealership for an extended period (about January through June 2025). After diagnosis and consultation with Hyundai technical support, the dealer replaced the ICCU assembly and high-voltage fuse. The vehicle and charging system have been inspected multiple times by Hyundai service centers. Hyundai issued recall campaigns in 2023 and 2024 involving ICCU software updates and fuse-related work, but these did not prevent the later failure requiring full ICCU replacement. Prior symptoms included abnormal charging behavior and eventual total loss of AC charging capability during the 2025 failure, making home charging impossible. After the ICCU replacement, the vehicle exhibited unusually loud cooling fan operation during Level 2 charging, documented by the dealer. There were also charging-port safety concerns. After one service visit, an important DC pin cover/cap was not properly installed until corrected on a return visit, leaving charging components exposed.

The Ioniq 5 has a known issue with a part called the ICCU. When the part fails, which it seems to inevitably do despite multiple recall repair visits and software upgrades, the car ceases to be driveable. In advance of this moment when your multi ton vehicle turns into a brick you get a short warning saying pull over, but that is not always possible. The car starts loudly beeping and reduces its max speed to 12 mph, which is not great on the freeway. The ICCU is a huge safety problem, a known issue that Hyundai is well aware of, and the part needs to be redesigned and the NTSB needs to force Hyundai to extend greater warranty protections for this event. This just happened to me, the dealership says they have 8 other ioniq 5's in with the same issue and I am number 9 on an ioniq 5 iccu loaner car waiting list while the part is back ordered for at least one month. My car stopped at a stop light and fully blocked an intersection when it bricked as I came off the freeway, was super scary to sort out in the middle of the road and I was very happy that my twin toddlers were not in the back seat, i was not so happy I had to pay to have the vehicle towed and arrange a comedicly complicated way to pickup my kids due to this known issue parts failure.

When the car was stopped and started again, I was able to drive the car slowly to the dealership located less then 1/4 mile away. The car behaved as if there was no power steering but the car still jerked the wheel around to try to put me back into the driving lane presumably because I was driving in the emergency lane. Failed component was ICCU Module 36400-1XAA0. Vehicle was unsafe because I was unable to move while about to turn into an intersection. After stopping and starting the car, the was drive-able bit mildly erratic when attempting to move the car to a safe location (out of the left turning lane). Problem was identified, confirmed, and repaired by dealer under warranty for second time. Component and vehicle inspected by dealer. Failed part sent back to manufacturer. This incident occurred without any prior warning or indication by the vehicle. There were no active recalls on the vehicle at the time of the incident.

1) This is the second occurrence of this issue within the past 12 months. While driving, my EV displayed various blinking lights and a “Check EV Connection” message, followed by a “12v Battery Critical” warning. The entire system began shutting down in the middle of the road. I managed to pull over before the car completely shut off. 2) This malfunction posed a significant safety risk to me and others. The rapid deceleration and uncertainty of an imminent shutdown almost caused an accident, either from other vehicles crashing into me or from my inability to stop in time, potentially hitting another car. I have faced this life-threatening situation twice within a year due to the same issue. 3) The problem was confirmed by my dealership less than a year ago, and my car is currently being towed back to the dealership for re-inspection of the same issue. 4) The vehicle and its components have not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or other parties for the current situation. However, the manufacturer issued a recall for this problem last year AFTER my initial report, incident, and repair. They claimed to have fixed the faulty issue or replaced the necessary parts, when my vehicle was repaired less than 12 months ago. Despite this, I am experiencing the same critical problem again. 5) During the incident, my entire panel started blinking with a “Check EV Connection” message, followed by a red warning sign indicating a 12v Battery Critical Failure warning. The system then went black, and the panel continued to blink white and black consistently while parked. The car cannot be started or moved.

I was coasting into a library parking space with my foot off the accelerator. The car accelerated even with my foot on the brake, jumped a curb and was stopped with above ground tree roots. The dashboard should have been lighted up with collision warning indicators and the automatic braking should have engaged. It did none of that. The car was totaled. Nothing was ever checked to see if it was a mechanical error. My insurer totaled the car.

When the vehicle is parked and the trunk is opened, some percentage of the time the trunk does not remain in the open position and immediately closes. If the trunk is then opened additional times it generally remains opened. When the trunk unexpectedly closes the trunk object detection does not work and applies a great deal of downforce. When the trunk finally stops trying to close it remains in a locked position between open and close, it does not reopen. Mine and others safety is at risk as the trunk can cause bodily injury resulting from the trunk unintended closing. This issue happens around 50% of the time after the trunk is commanded to open. Two dealerships have been unable to reproduce this issue, but neither has tried multiple times, nor have they driven the vehicle to get the error/bug to reoccur. There are no warning or errors that this issue is going to occur. The only warming occurs three seconds after the trunk fully opens, the trunk closing audible rings. This error has persisted since shortly after first purchasing the vehicle.

Hyundai describes the lack on rear window wiper on this hatchback/suv as handled by the 'air wiper' the include air ducts allow for. The problem is that this 'air wiper' only works if it is actually actively raining AND you are driving at highway speeds. At any other time the rear window is almost always dirty and has no way of being cleaned while driving the car. One would need to pull over to a gas station to clean the window if on the road. Not sure you have a resolution section but the resolution would be to require Hyundai to install a rear wiper with wiper fluid mechanism.

I parked the car end visited a store. Upon turning the car back on, the car freaked out and indicated that I needed to "Stop vehicle and check brake system." At the same time, the check engine light illuminated and the car entered limp home mode. CEL codes C164286 & C238001 appeared. The next day I brought the car to a Hyundai dealer who "fixed" the issue by removing a component that is unrelated to the braking and security systems and the car became drivable again for ~300 miles. I then went on two business trips and returned home. I drove the car and it again experienced the same error upon turning the car on. The braking system still functioned, but all electronic features were disabled by the car and braking involved a lot of force on the brake pedal to get the car to stop. For as long as I've owned the car, it has (infrequently) flashed the "Check automatic lane change system" when the car is turned on but the error goes away and doesn't return for weeks to months. The car is now back with the dealer who "fixed" the issue originally but their EV tech isn't always there to look at cars, even though the issue is not necessarily EV related as all cars (should) have brakes. Hyundai Ioniq EV's have a continuing issue with a component called that "ICCU". The ICCU and high voltage fuse failed even after two recalls meant to monitor that problem and update the software. Luckily, mine failed in my driveway at home which did not put me in immediate risk. However, many people have this part fail while driving on roads and highways with zero warning. There have been two ICCU-related recalls that my car has had. I am filing this complaint to report a serious safety defect involving my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The vehicle experienced a sudden failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), which caused the car to completely shut down and lose power while in motion. My family member, who was driving at the time, stated that the car lost power and shut off without warning on the road, creating an extremely dangerous situation. Thankfully, they were able to pull over without incident, but this type of malfunction could easily result in a collision, injury, or worse. I later discovered that this issue is part of a widespread ICCU failure affecting Hyundai Ioniq 5 and other Hyundai/Kia EVs. My vehicle has been at the dealership for over a month, and Hyundai has informed me that the part required to repair the vehicle is backordered for 2–3 months, leaving me without my primary mode of transportation. This issue is not only a reliability concern but a serious safety hazard that warrants immediate investigation and intervention. A vehicle that completely loses power while driving is unacceptable, especially for a relatively new vehicle under warranty. I urge the NHTSA to investigate the ICCU failures in Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles and determine whether a broader mandatory recall is needed due to the loss of motive power and serious safety risk. Many owners are affected, and delays in repair parts are putting consumers in unsafe situations.

I was driving 75mph on the freeway and I heard a pop and then the electrical warning system on the car lit up. I lost power to the car and was only able to accelerate minimally. There was a warning of low battery and the vehicle was going to lose power. I turned on my hazard lights and was able to get to the exit and was able to exit the freeway safely. Once the vehicle lost power I was unable to open the charger door, start the vehicle, use any of the key fob functions and had to jump the 12V battery, only to die immediately after. There is no pre-warning to this happening, it just shows the alert and the car loses all power. There are also problems with the vehicle after being plugged in to charge and it says "Charging Unsuccessful", or stops charging after a short period of time. It also will not charge to full capacity at home or the charging station. I receive no warning lights or messages about why the charge is not working. The Draw-tite 76589 was purchased through Uhaul Canada for my 2022 Ioniq5. After a few months of use with a light trailer according to the specifications of Hyundai, Uhaul and Drawtite, it tore of a part of the vehicles frame. After the inspection at U-Haul and Hyundai dealership, they concluded that the problem occured because the hitch wasn't designed to mount on the specified by Hyundai mounting spot, hence it caused the damage. There are many cases like that on Ioniq5 forum as well as at different hitch installing companies who used this model. This model is now discontinued, although still sold, and was replaced by a 76632 model which mounts to the right location. When driving for a distance at higher speeds, power will suddenly drop to the zero point btw acceleration and regeneration. You can feel the car start to drag as the power drops. If you press hard on the accelerator to stop it from slowing, it will suddenly jump forward. This has happened now on several long trips where I am constatly fighting with the car to keep it powered and not slipping into the zero zone. When it leaps forward the lane assist will also grab control and make it difficult to control the car. The car also stops slowing consistently when I take my foot off the accelerator and will move/ jump forward more than is typical for an EV instead of slowing the way an EV should as it regenerates. This all happened twice previously on a long trip and today constantly during a three hour drive. Does not feel safe!

1.We purchased the vehicle (Hyundai Ioniq 5, 2022 Model) on MAY 20, 2022. 2.The vehicle was acceptable until it started to fail on us while we were on the road, and soon after the vehicle crawled home at limited power and came to a stop, it would no longer even turn on. 3.Then started our nightmare with Hyundai USA. We called the service department and they told us, based on our brief description of what happened, that our vehicle would be unsafe to drive a single more mile (which was impossible anyhow because it wouldn’t turn on), and to tow our vehicle to Hyundai dealership in Fayetteville, AR for repair on DECEMBER 27, 2022 at our own expense. 4. From what Hyundai, Fayetteville, AR's service engineer named Evan told us, they have replaced the fuse no less than four times and it kept blowing when they went to test the vehicle. After the basic fuse replacement, it caused the problem to become worse, and revealed an ICCU problem, that then revealed acceleration and charging problems, and the initial fuse problem still persisted. Codes kept popping up, and whenever they fixed the current issue, another one would present. Long story short, it turned out the vehicle was experiencing “mass power surges,” issues with the batteries, and displaying codes for reasons they were unsure of, causing the basic fuse replacement to “pop.” They even called in a Hyundai Engineer directly from corporate to try to fix the vehicle, but according to Evan, even he had no idea what was wrong with the vehicle and had left with some data.

This is an electric vehicle that features “iPedal” driving, what Hyundai refers to as one-pedal driving. The main safety issue is that when you decelerate using one pedal, which is a fairly aggressive deceleration, the brake lights do not come on unless you lift your foot entirely from the accelerator or apply the brake pedal (which one would rarely do in iPedal mode). Hyundai needs to rethink their concept of operations for how their brake lights should operate. People are at risk of getting rear-ended. I didn’t realize this was how the vehicle operated until I was almost rear-ended today. Please push them to fix this issue.

I could not turn my hazards on, the wheels were locked and I was unable to move the car. I had to stand outside my car to alert oncoming traffic to avoid me. Had I been on the highway when this happened I feel it could have turned deadly quickly, and would have been far worse at night It has been confirmed that the ICCU and high voltage fuse had failed. There are many other owners online speaking of the same problem. The error prior to this reported in the car was "check electric vehicle system." The ioniq 5 has a one pedal driving mode, where the car will come to a complete stop without needing to press the brake pedal, similar to other EV's. In this mode, the gas pedal operates differently then in a conventional car - pressing the pedal approximately 1/3 of the way down represents neutral, where the car coasts. Pressing the pedal less then that - between 1/3 and not pressing it at all, applies braking power to the car, either through regenerative braking or the application of the physical brakes. The issue is, the brake lights on the rear of the vehicle do not light up when the gas pedal is depressed any amount. If you press the gas pedal as lightly as possible, the car will brake a fair amount but there is no warning to driver's behind that you are decelerating. I have twice been almost rear-ended, both times while slowing down in one pedal mode. I suspect the lack of brake lights until you take your foot fully off the gas pedal is a contributing factor. Other Ioniq 5 users have experienced the same issue.

On February 6, 2023 at approximately 9:50 a.m. I was driving my Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL northbound on CA Highway 135, Santa Maria, when I heard a loud pop coming from my car. Within a few seconds my car lost speed rapidly, from 55 mph to 25 then a second later 22 mph . I tried to accelerate - there was no response - the car maintained the 22 mph. A message appeared on the right side of the dash board in an orange circle “check vehicle system” with a small upside down triangle with letters EV also inside this circle and a “small orange battery” picture showed on the left. I drove the car onto the shoulder of the road and with my hazard lights blinking, drove a half block making a right hand turn onto Miller Street to get off the Highway. I entered CHC Medical Building’s parking lot. Immediately upon entering the parking lot, my car stopped dead, before I had a chance to pull into a parking space. My car was now blocking cars coming in and out of the parking lot. I called Roadside Assistance and reported the above, the time was approximately 10:19 a.m. A tow truck (AAA) was requested by Roadside Assistance. After my conversation with Roadside Assistance, I turned the car on again and got power briefly - I moved the car into a stall space and waited. My car arrived at the Hyundai SLO dealership shortly before noon. The ICCU and fuse failed, and replacements have been ordered but the ETA is unknown Abrupt loss of speed was very unsafe

I was driving on the highway using advanced highway assist and the car became completely unresponsive. I was traveling 75mph on a major highway with a semi behind me and one to my right in the slow lane. The car stopped accelerating and I was unable to resume driving. I was forced to coast to a stop on the side of the highway. I had my daughter with me and were I not able to safely maneuver between the semi trucks, we could have been killed or seriosuly injured in a high speed crash.

I started my car up right after charging on a rainy day at 2500 miles exactly and got 5 warnings. Check battery, lane assist warning, abs warning, parking brake warning, forward collision warning and bling spot collision avoidance warning lights were on. More or less all these systems triggered a fault. I tried turning it off and on to no luck. As I drove to the dealer my breaks became steadily lighter and lighter with the manual break even clicking at times. My breaking distance was doubled by the time that i got there. Other owners are seeing the same issue. It sounds quite similar to the Kona Electric recall (20V-748). My car is unsafe to drive.
