The vehicle flashed a warning and suddenly lost power, forcing me to pull over or be stuck in the middle of the road. The vehicle could no longer be driven, as this problem occurred quickly after subsequent restarts. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership, who confirmed it was a broken ICCU, and stated that this had been happening a lot to the Ioniq5s. The replacement part was on backorder. It ended up taking nearly 60 days for the replacement to arrive and to be installed.

The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled and failed to return to normal operation. The "check the battery" message was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was towed back to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,240.
May 06, 2026
I was driving and the vehicle was operating as expected in normal conditions when I heard a loud pop sound, followed by an alert on my car infotainment to pull over and inspect the 12v battery. "12 volt battery low. Stop safely" I turned the car around to drive back home. The car wouldn't go any faster than 40mph. Once parking the car back home, the car would not turn on anymore. This is congruent with what I've been reading online about other Hyundai Ioniq 5 drivers experiencing when the ICCU in the car fails, requiring Hyundai to fix it.
May 03, 2026
There was a failure of the ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) on my Ioniq 5 that forced me to pull off the highway after my car was no longer able to accelerate past 40 or so MPH. After I pulled off the highway I was then only able to accelerate to around 15 MPH which made it difficult to find a place to safely pull off the road until the vehicle made a complete stop and I had to wait for a tow.

I lease a 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 AWD. Prior to a planned trip, the vehicle displayed an electrical system warning. I contacted the dealership and was advised to bring it in. While driving approximately 5 miles to the dealership, the vehicle lost all power including hazard lights, leaving me stranded on a busy road. I contacted roadside assistance and the vehicle was towed to the dealership. The dealership confirmed the failure was caused by the ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit). The repair took approximately two weeks. The vehicle was unavailable during this time, requiring a rental car. Hyundai partially reimbursed rental costs but did not compensate for other losses incurred. The ICCU failure is a known widespread issue affecting the entire Hyundai/Kia E-GMP platform across multiple models and model years. A dedicated owner community tracking these failures can be found at [XXX] . The sudden and complete loss of vehicle power including safety systems such as hazard lights while in traffic represents a significant safety risk to the driver and other road users. 2/28/26 Driving home, heard a loud pop, notice is on the dash say check vehicle electrical system. Vehicle begins to slow down and eventually die. Called the manufacturer and had it towed to the dealership. The ICCU had failed.
Apr 07, 2026
Car won’t start and is completely dead. Doors won’t open, including charge port door. Once you manually unlock car is totally dead inside. Took to dealer for an ICCU replacement under warranty but died again 1 week later. Another ICCU failure? Terrible.

On January 31st, 2026, not long after starting a journey in my car, I got a “check electrical systems” warning. I was close to home so was able to turn around and drive home. Just before pulling into the driveway, the warning changed to a “power limited” warning. On Monday Feb 2nd, I had the car towed to my local dealership, where it has been since. The dealer confirmed that it was an issue with the ICCU component which is on back order to this day.

I was driving on a residential street, traveling about 25 miles per hour. I heard a loud popping sound from the back of the car and within seconds I started to lose power. I pulled over to the side of the road and my car was dead. No electrical system, I couldn't even power the locks. I waited for several hours to have it towed to the dealer where it sat for 29 days waiting for the part. It's the ICCU that failed. Had I been going at highway speeds, I very likely could have been in a life threatening accident. This is unacceptable for a car.

As I began a drive cycle, I heard a pop sound and received the “check electric vehicle system” warning associated with ICCU failure. With ICCU failure, if I had continued to drive the 12V battery would have run to zero and the car would have died completely. Vehicle goes to dealer tomorrow for confirmation.
Apr 22, 2026
Multiple 12v batteries, the battery management system, and ICCU have all failed on my Ioniq 5. During my 13-month lease, this vehicle has been inoperable for more than 30 cumulative days due to the same recurring defect. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Hyundai dealership multiple times, but the defect was repeatedly misdiagnosed and not corrected, resulting in continued failures and extended loss of use. The defect causes sudden loss of power and complete vehicle shutdown, including the inability to restart the vehicle. If this occurs while driving, it creates a serious safety hazard by eliminating propulsion, power-assisted steering, and braking assistance. The vehicle may become disabled in traffic or at intersections, increasing the risk of a collision, injury, or stranding occupants in unsafe conditions.

Warning light came on stating that we needed to have the electrical system checked asap. Vehicle would not charge from Level 2 charger. It needed to be towed from our house to the dealer to get its ICCU replaced since there was a risk that it would no longer power vehicle on 4 mile drive to dealer for repair. Problem was fixed in one week by Roseville Hyundai by replacing the ICCU in the vehicle
Jan 29, 2026
12 volt battery drained in my driveway on 1/20. Vehicle was completely dead including door and hatch locks. Roadside assistance jumped the 12 volt battery. Vehicle message said, “Insufficient power. Check Electrical system”. Vehicle was towed to local Hyundai dealer, who diagnosed an ICCU failure. The dealer has four other Ioniq 5s with the same problem. Replacement ICCU is on back order with no ETA for delivery. There were no warnings prior to the ICCU failure. If the vehicle were being driven when this failure occurred, the loss of power would have put all occupants at great risk.
Jan 28, 2026
The ICCU failed at 11,000 miles and 11 months into the lease. When the ICCU fails, the car becomes inoperable. This was a major safety hazard since it broke down on a major US highway and I was barely able to get off to the side of the road. This seems to be affecting a large number of Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 models.

Received multiple "Check Vehicle Electric Systems" on a drive which went away and then got into the car, turned it on, shifted into drive, and heard a pop from bellow before moving at all and the car went into Turtle Mode and blasted warnings. The car completely died with zero power leaving it stranded in sub freezing temperatures and unable to lock the car or open the lift gate to access the trunk area. Eventually it was towed to the dealership and was diagnosed to have a faulty ICCU which took 5 weeks to replace.

Feb 17, 2026
On January 1st 2026 around 11am we were traveling in rural Wisconsin when we heard a loud pop from under the back seat . This we now know from Dahl Hyundai in LaCrosse was the ICCU failing . When this happened we were in blizzard conditions and the car forced us into limp mode and reduced us from 55 mph down to 25mph in bumper to bumper traffic on a rural hwy (this was not a smooth speed transition the car performed ) We drove the vehicle back to the nearest town going 25mph as it was alerting us that we were on limited battery as this issue in short time will make the vehicle inoperable . We found a safe place to stop and did so. We called Hyundai Roadside assistance who then let us know it would be 9 minutes until we received help. This would actually take 4 more hours . They left us with a car that did not operate , produce heat in a blizzard . We eventually had family pick us up so we were safe . We still do not have the vehicle back as Hyundai America has the part (ICCU) on back order with no ETA of repair. .

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - It was ultimately diagnosed as an ICCU failure. The part is no longer in my possession. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - Occurred on public street, fortunately a slow moving 25MPH speed limit several blocks from my workplace. I was able to limp the vehicle to a nearby parking lot and call for towing. Unfortunately, several hours later the vehicle was unable to be moved, leaving me stranded, and requiring it to be towed to local Hyundai dealership. I was ultimately without a vehicle for >1 week. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - Yes, confirmed as ICCU failure. Additionally, my vehicle had the software update at the time that was supposed to fix / greatly decrease the rate of ICCU failures. I had no outstanding recalls on the vehicle. Vehicle was ~1 year old and had less than 12,000 miles on it. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - Yes, at least local Hyundai dealership mechanics Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - Initially the error message "stop vehicle and check power supply". The next day, that message, then a yellow turtle and "Power Limited"

For the second time, the integrated control unit, ICCU, has failed to this is AFTER being replaced under the recall. The recall solution has not fixed the problem, and is a fake bandaid on a problem that means cars will totally stop working in the middle of the road. This is totally unsafe and unacceptable.

ICCU failed after 14k miles. Car suddenly went into "turtle" mode (displayed on dash), car could only go 10 mph and my wife had to pull the car off the street asap and was a very scary experience. Dealer has confirmed the ICCU failure and given me a loaner vehicle. No eta on when the part can be fixed, just that it's current status is back order.

The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The contact stated that while his wife was driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle started losing motive power. The contact’s wife depressed the accelerator pedal; however, the vehicle shifted to first or second gear and failed to accelerate above 20 MPH. The contact stated there were no warnings illuminated. The contact stated that his wife pulled into a parking lot and the vehicle lost electrical power and was unable to be restarted. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and informed the contact that the vehicle had had a failure of a part that was on a national back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.

I was driving and the car gave an electrical system warning, slowed, and thereafter would not go above about 20mph. Fortunately this happened on a local, low speed limit street. I'd rather not think about what might have happened if this had happened on a highway. The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) is no longer working as it should. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer/manufacturer service station.

ICCU failed while driving. This resulted in the vehicle going into limp mode while driving, cause the speed to slow dramatically and rendering it unable to be driven. Luckily, this happened close to home and I was able to get a tow truck to bring it to the dealership. Otherwise I would have been stranded. This problem is know, and was repair by Hyundai but there is no true fix as of yet, which continues to put drivers at risk. At the time of the failure the warning light "check vehicle electrical system" and "power limited" came on.

The ICCU failed while driving which left me with an undriveable vehicle on the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealership and repaired; however, the part is the same and may fail again.

Hyundai is ignoring the fact that many Ioniq 5 have an ICCU defect that happens without warning and can leave you stranded with a bricked car that you can’t drive. They have a software recall for it that I had performed at the dealer. This did not solve the problem because it failed yesterday and I was stranded far from home. They continue to put this same part in the 2025 model. I have a 2024. Brand new cars are having the same problem which requires the whole unit to be replaced with the same unit that can go bad. I know people who it has happened to multiple times. They need to issue a recall that replaces the entire unit with a redesigned one. Not the same exact part. Everyone of these cars is a ticking time bomb that can leave a person stranded.

The car made a loud popping noise and immediately started displaying electrical system fault errors. The car propulsion stopped within 15 seconds and was not able to be moved after. I was on the freeway and just barely made it over to the side. Car was not able to be towed by a regular tow truck because the electrical system was gone and the car was not able to be shifted into neutral. Jump starting the battery did nothing. Car was sent to the dealer who confirmed that the car sustained an ICCU failure which controls the entire battery electric system. The ICCU had to be replaced. There is already a mandatory recall on the vehicle regarding the ICCU. The recall was to check the status and confirm that the ICCU was working properly and in good condition. I had this recall done BEFORE the ICCU failed, so even though the recall check was performed, the ICCU still failed and put me in a very dangerous situation. The car is 6 months old and has 6200 miles on the odometer.

The tubing that is used to connect the windshield washer reservoir to the nozzles that deliver the washer fluid to the windshield is prone to rodent activity. This tubing has been punctured by rodents twice now - with one intervening tube replacement. I have to replace the tubing again today. It has been less than two weeks since I last replaced the tubing. The replacement tubing was purchased from a Hyundai dealership. It appears that this will be an ongoing issue that will impact the operational safety of the vehicle.

I purchased a 2024 Ionic 5 on January 29th on a day without rain/snow. The first time it rained I found out that there was no rear wiper. I assumed there to be one as its a SUV with a slanted back window, not straight up and down. When it rains or snows the water/snow just sits on the back window, making it impossible to see out the back window. I know every Ionic 5 is like this. On researching the 2025's now have them due to customer feedback. I don't believe this is a convenience issue, but a safety one not being able to see out the back window.
Apr 02, 2025
It is impossible to see through the back window when it rains. It has no wiper--and unlike other cars, it is not aerodynamic and does not push rain off the back windshield. When it rains, you cannot see anything. Due to the location of the backup camera, it also becomes wet and you cannot see anything when doing in reverse through the window or backup camera when it's raining.

While driving I received the infamous "Stop vehicle and check power supply" warning, and it was then inoperable, needed a tow to the dealer for ICCU replacement. I can't believe you terminated your initial investigation into this in 2023 because they did a recall (which my car received). That recall did not fix the issue. It is March 2026 and Ioniq 5 and other models with the same electric system are dying on the road at the same rate as before. There is a large percentage of failed cars, and every failure is dangerous. This is a huge safety issue, and is not receiving adequate oversight by the NHTSA.

The car stalled while being driven by my son. It displaced an error code. The Car had to be towed to dealership. It was diagnosed with ICCU unit failure. Needs to wait over a months for parts.

ICCU failure: confirmed by dealership, submitting for your records - while driving the morning of 2/11/26 in Evansville, IN a warning message appeared on the dashboard stating 'Check Electric Vehicle System' followed by a rapid deceleration. Luckily there was not a vehicle behind me as they would have rear ended me. This failure occurred without warning and presented a significant safety hazard, leaving the vehicle stranded in traffic until I was able to restart it. Vehicle went in to turtle mode upon restart, would not go over 20mph at first then I stopped the car, restarted it again, it would move for 15-20 seconds before going in to turtle mode again and now it will not go over 10mph - interestingly, when I would stop and put it in reverse, the vehicle would move 10-20' and then come to a very abrupt stop as the entire vehicle shut off - had to tow the vehicle to the Hyundai dealership in Evansville Indiana where the ICCU was confirmed has having failed

While driving northbound on US-280 freeway, the vehicle experienced sudden deceleration with maximum speed limited to approximately 40 mph. The dashboard displayed a "Check Power Supply" warning. The vehicle required a tow to the dealership. Dealer diagnosis indicates likely ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) failure. This is a known issue affecting multiple Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles, with numerous consumer reports of the same failure mode. The sudden loss of propulsion at highway speed created a significant safety hazard though we were able to make it off the freeway with hazards on. However shortly after exiting the vehicle further slowed and eventually died on the side of the road as did the hazard signals.

ICCU failed while driving. Causing the car to dangerously decelerate with little to no warning. The car then bricked itself on the side of the road. Diagnoses is a failed ICCU. This failure was insanely dangerous as the car lost all power and would not accelerate.
Mar 31, 2025
1. Uncertain which part failed. 2. safety was put at risk due to car not able to accelerate. Car would not go over 20 miles an hour on the interstate access road where traffic was going by at 50 –60 mph - four-way flashers were on and had to pull off at the first available turn but it was scary 3. Contacted local Hyundai; they are investigating a possible loaner, but haven’t said what they will do. 4. No inspections yet. 5. No warning or unusual events prior to lack of power/lack of acceleration. 6. Internet search showed that this problem has occurred to others.

According to Hyundai, all active recall campaigns have been addressed on this vehicle (NHTSA site says it wasn't, Hyundai claims it was on 9/22/2025). Last night (3/3/2026) while driving on an unlit, two-lane country road about 20 minutes from my house, I heard and felt a bang noise from underneath the rear cabin of the car accompanied by a message stating "Stop vehicle and check power supply" on the dash. The car immediately went into a limp mode, reducing speed to ~40mph. After about 0.5 miles, the car further reduced speed to about 25mph (in a 55mph zone). As speed reduced further (no indication of what the speed would be reduced to), I pulled the car off of the road and awaited tow service. As this happened in the evening on an unlit country road, I was forced to wait for assistance along a stretch of road that could have been hazardous. Hyundai's claimed recall campaign work was performed on 9/22/25 with subsequent recurring failure about 5 months later. The dealer cannot confirm the diagnosis or offer estimates of repair time/availability until they see the car (currently scheduled for next week).

ICCU failure, resulting in 12v discharge and complete immobilization of car. The car's safety systems gave sufficient warning to allow me to get somewhere safe -- but the nature of the failure also disabled it's ability to maintain a call with blulink to coordinate a pickup. Luckily my cell also had service.

“While stopped at a red light my 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5, the car moved forward slowly the brake pedal became completely unresponsive and would not slow or stop the vehicle. I had to turn off the engine to bring the car to a stop. This is a complete brake system failure on a vehicle with only approximately 10,000 miles that was purchased new on September 28, 2024. This is a critical safety defect that put myself and others at serious risk.”

Crash: 1
On [XXX], I was in New Jersey waiting for my mother to finish shopping. In an effort to preserve battery life, I turned off the engine while waiting. Upon her return, I placed my foot on the brake pedal and started the car. As soon as I shifted the gear into "Drive," the vehicle made an unusual sound and began to roll forward. At no point did I remove my foot from the brake pedal, and I immediately applied more pressure. However, the brakes did not respond. Panicked by the fact that a parked car was directly in front of me, I quickly shifted the gear into "Park" to engage the emergency brake. Fortunately, this action brought the vehicle to a stop, and no damage occurred. I turned the vehicle off and restarted it after which the brakes functioned properly. The experience was extremely alarming. This is not the first time I have experienced this issue. On [XXX], a similar incident occurred while I was stopped at a red light. At that time, I assumed I may not have applied sufficient pressure to the brake pedal. The car rolled forward and made contact with the vehicle in front of me, resulting in a minor accident and a cracked front headlight. Given that this has now happened twice, I am concerned about the possibility of a recurring brake system failure and am worried for my safety and the safety of others. - Brake Failure, it is available for inspection upon request - if I didn’t act quickly and pressed the emergency brake, it would have resulted in an accident. Damage to my car and damage to the car In front of me. And could have resulted in injury to myself. -I have not taken the vehicle to the dealership or service center yet as I have not driven it since the incident. However, I have scheduled an appointment for this upcoming weekend. -there were no warning lamps messages or other symptoms prior to the failure. While driving car, got warning to “Check electric vehicle system” quickly followed by “Stop vehicle and check power supply”. Car went into “Power Limited” turtle mode and speed dropped down to 25mph without warning. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
2 complaints
When a car is in the process of passing me on the left during a left hand curve on the highway at highway speeds, the rear left radar sensor seems to have set off a forward collision warning. This caused the ioniq5 to do an emergency collision brake. I had to press on the accelerator to cancel the emergency brake while the other car passed me on the left. There were no cars in front of me that would have triggered a frontal collision emergency brake.
Feb 25, 2026
The forward collision system will intermittently erroneously detect objects in front of the vehicle while stopped or in motion. While driving on the freeway, this will cause the car to engage the emergency braking system endangering those in and around the car. While stop to the stoplight, this causes the front detection alarm to go off. The dealership has reproduced the error and tried software updates and replacing sensors, but the problem persists.

When I started driving my car a warning to check the electrical system came on the display and the speed of the car dropped to less than 25 mph. The road we were driving on was over 45mph without a safe shoulder. After it was towed to the dealer, they diagnosed that the ICCU had failed and replaced it and a fuse. This was after all recalls and other software updates were performed many months ago.

The vehicle is less than 1 years old. Had 91% charge left. Turned in the car as usual. Turned in heated seats and heated steering wheel as the outside temp was 34 degrees. A pop noise occurred and my entire dashboard flashed like a Christmas tree saying electrical system failure. Pull over safety. The cars speed was reduced to 20 mph. This was extremely scary as this happened on a main road where the speed limit was 55. The ICCU failed according to the dealer. This has been a common issue among Ioniq5 cars and the manufacturer has failed to fixed this issue. This car presents a high failure rate of the ICCU computer that controls the entire car. Once this chip fails, the car can not be driven and it must be towed back to the dealership. This is not a one off. Hyundai also quietly remove the remote start feature to activate the heated seats. They must know that turning on the heated seats might trigger an overload causing possible risk of iccu failure.
Dec 28, 2025
The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failed while I was driving to work. I was on the highway in the middle of a blizzard and the "Check Electric Vehicle Systems" warning popped up on my dash. It then when into a turtle mode and my car would no longer go above 15 - 20 mph. I had to exit the freeway very abruptly because my speed was dropping quickly. It was already extremely dangerous driving that day, this just added on top of it. It is available for inspection, it's been sitting at my dealership since March 6th because the ICCU is back ordered and there is no ETA when one will become available. The dealership has inspected and confirmed it is a faulty ICCU. There were no other problems with the car until the warning appeared on the dash. The ICCU has had 3 manufacturer recalls for the ICCU previously. Which I have gone in to the dealership for.

Backing vehicle out of driveway and went to engage brakes and they did not engage. began rolling backwards down street with steep grade. Kept stepping on brakes with no response. Had to turn into a parked vehicle to keep from rolling down steep grade and potentially off a substantial cliff. Happened today and dealership said that it may be because the "battery for the brake" had not received a charge from the main battery. Very dangerous and never disclosed. If I had not taken evasive action I could have easily been killed. Car is being dropped off at collision center today but is available for inspection. There were no warnings or other symptoms.

I received this car new on 9/2/2024. I was driving at the freeway speed of traffic on 9/5/2024 when there was a sudden alarm and warning lights flashing on the dashboard with a message that said “Stop vehicle and check brake system.” At this same time, the brakes stopped functioning normally, and I had to use extreme pressure with my foot pressing down on the brake pedal all the way to the floor to have the car slow down even marginally. All of this happened with traffic in front, behind, and on both sides of me going 65 mph! I was very luckily able to maneuver to the right lane and slowly decrease speed without getting rear-ended and without slamming into a car in front of me while going at high speed unable to stop. While waiting for a tow, I left the car on, as I slowly edged forward to a safer stopping location. The flashing red ring around the message to “stop vehicle and check brake system” remained, and then just after moving forward, another message with an amber circle around it said “Check ABS system.” This latter message stayed on for only a short time, then was replaced by the initial message. I had the car towed to the dealership, and their assessment was that there was a failure of the IEP module that communicates between aspects of the braking system. The final service report is attached, confirming the need for replacement of the IEP assembly. I was very lucky to come away from this event with nothing more than a very frightening experience. I hope that this report will initiate a recall to prevent a similar situation happening to someone else, and hopefully avoid tragedy involving serious injury or death.

My vehicle was 4 weeks old. On Friday 6/28/24, my vehicle displayed the following message on the dashboard, "Check Brake System". It disappeared later, and reappeared on the next day. I checked Hyundai's app, Bluelink. There was a alert on Bluelink, "Attention Needed". I opened the alert and it said that there was a Diagnostic Trouble Code, DTC C123501, that originated on 6/30/24. I took the vehicle to the dealership, Hyundai of North Miami, on the next business day, [XXX]. That morning, [XXX], as I started the vehicle, as I stepped on the brake to start the vehicle, the brake was considered "softer" than it was prior and I could feel the brake pedal go nearly all the way down to the base of the vehicle floor. On [XXX] they informed me that the ICCU needed to be replaced. They said that they hoped to have the ability to order the part on 7/5/24, as the computer system needed to do so was not working, and the part could potentially arrive in approximately 1 week. This is the second time the ICCU failed. The car is waiting for a full EV battery replacement. The first time the failure happened on 12/11/25, at 9,165 miles, the alert happened just before the car came to a full stop as we were driving along the road near our house, it was very difficult to steer, we were sort of stopped in the road and had to get it towed. The second time the alert came on 4/16/26 and we were able to get it to the dealer.

TIRES
1 complaint
TIRE SIZE 235 / 55 R 19. Vehicle is a 2024 IONIQ 5. Issue began at/around 10k miles of use. Sound dampening foam inside of the tires comes loose and bunches up in the tire, creating varying degrees of car shaking and vibration. At its worst, the steering wheel and tires violently shake, especially between 50 - 75 mph. On the highway this causes a very dangerous situation of the driver fighting the wheel to remain safely within their lane. This can happen with no warning (or very little) as the vibration may be subtle at lower speeds on local roads, only to become unexpectedly extreme and violent while speeding-up to join highway traffic. Local Hyundai dealership inspected and tried rotating and balancing which did not fix the problem. Finally they removed the tires and inspected the foam which fixed the issue on one single tire. Cost was passed to the consumer, who is not at fault. And with only one tire addressed, the potential remains for each tire to experience the same failure without warning as time goes by. This is a very dangerous issue, well known as evidenced by complaints since 2023 online, and is going to cause accidents. It is unacceptable that drivers have risk their safety and that of other drivers if they lose control of the car due to the inability to control the steering wheel. Then have to pay to fix this issue or pay for new tires after only 10-12k miles.

The vehicle experienced a sudden failure of the 12V battery while on the road. The car stopped completely and became inoperable. At the time of failure, there were no tail lights or proper warning indicators working, which created a very dangerous situation, especially in traffic. I was stuck on the road for about one hour waiting for a tow truck. During that time, other vehicles were honking and passing by, increasing the risk of an accident. The vehicle had to be jump-started before it could be moved. Details: What component failed: The 12V battery system failed unexpectedly. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: Loss of power caused the vehicle to stop on the road with no tail lights, putting my safety and others at serious risk. Reproduction/confirmation: Issue was temporarily resolved with a jump-start, but this is a known issue reported by other owners as well. Inspection: The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer or dealer after this incident. Warnings/symptoms: There were no clear warning lights or messages before the failure. The issue happened suddenly without notice.

I was merging onto the highway. I got a warning that I needed to check my electrical system. I was able to back down the highway ramp and park on a side street. Within 20 minutes the car was fully dead and AAA needed to tow it to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that the ICCU needs a replacement. My family is lucky this happened in a place we could safely get to a side street. Had it happened 5 minutes later we would have been stranded on the highway with 2 small children.

As we drove toward the highway to begin our journey home in our 2024 RWD Ioniq 5 with our entire family and luggage in the vehicle, we received a "Check Electric Vehicle System" warning and immediately pulled over and called Hyundai Roadside Assistance. They initially were going to send someone to jump the car, assuming it was an ICE, but once we said it was an EV, they said they didn't have the equipment to jump an EV. We then spoke to Hyundai Customer Care, and we reported that we received the "Check Electric Vehicle System" warning. The HCC rep said that she did not see any issues with the vehicle on her end, so we would be OK to drive it. We specified that we had a 1.5 hour drive home and asked her explicitly if we would be OK to drive this length of time with this warning and make it home? She again said that we would be OK to drive it. After getting off the phone with her, we proceeded onto the highway and within about 2 minutes, received the "Stop Vehicle and Check Power Supply" warning and then, within a few seconds, began to lose power. This was extremely dangerous, as we were going down a hill on a highway frequented by semi trucks in the rain. Fortunately, we were still able to turn on the hazard lights and coast into a nearby hotel parking lot. As we were losing power, we were afraid we would not be able to get out of the car because all the doors were locked and the windows were up due to the rain, so we quickly unlocked two of the doors as soon as we pulled into the parking lot. One of us then had to stay with the car at all times because we couldn't lock or unlock the car. We eventually had the car towed to the Hyundai dealer closest to us who determined that the ICCU and fuse had failed and needed to be replaced, but they could only replace them with new parts of the same design that could potentially fail again; Hyundai does not yet have a fix for the ICCU failure.

The ICCU on our 2024 IONIQ 5 (VIN: [XXX] ) failed on January 4, 2026, along with the 12‑volt battery. The vehicle had only 5,034 miles on it and was just 12 months and 14 days past our purchase date of December 21, 2024. At the time of the incident, the car was charged to 79% when it suddenly entered turtle mode. We were close enough to home to return safely, but the following day the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership. The dealer informed us that the car had completely lost power and that both the ICCU and the 12‑volt battery had failed. We have now been waiting five weeks without a replacement part. We have also learned that Hyundai has not yet implemented a design fix for the underlying cause of ICCU failures, despite widespread reports from owners. We consider this a significant safety concern. Had this failure occurred on a highway—especially in sub‑zero temperatures—it could have put us and other drivers at serious risk. The vehicle was returned to me after a manufacturer-authorized high-voltage battery replacement that was completed on December 10, 2025. Immediately after pickup, the vehicle began exhibiting safety-related issues. I experienced abnormal and hard steering operation, repeated low coolant warnings, and battery management system (BMS) and electrical warning messages. These warning messages appeared immediately after the repair and before the vehicle was driven by me. I returned the vehicle to the dealership multiple times for the same issues. During the final visit, the dealership retained the vehicle for approximately 12 days. After this inspection period, I was informed that the vehicle had underbody damage affecting the coolant system and high-voltage battery and that the damage was likely caused by road debris. The issues began immediately after the battery replacement and involved safety-related systems including steering, coolant, and the high-voltage battery. The vehicle was returned with unresolved warning messages related to these systems. I am concerned that the vehicle was released after a major battery repair in an unsafe condition and that the affected systems may not have been properly inspected or repaired prior to release.

On the morning of [XXX] I received an error message on my dashboard (attached) "Stop Vehicle and Check Power Supply". The car had started to lose acceleration power to no more than 30MPH. I contact the service department at my local dealer. They instructed me to bring it in or have it towed. I was about 2 miles from home so I headed back. While in transit the car lost all power in the middle of traffic. It stopped completely ! No emergency flashers, lights, power for the doors, windows, etc. I could not even put into Park. If I lifted my foot off of brake, it started to roll backwards. Luckily I was not on the expressway or at a railroad crossing. Fortunately a local police officer saw my dilemma and directed traffic and pushed my car to the side of the road ([XXX]) After doing research online I found this to be a common issue with Hyundai/Kia EV vehicles. I heard a popping sound from behind driver seat when I started the car. A few minutes later a dash warning showed up "stop vehicle and check battery state" followed by a complete loss of power on the road within 3 miles of reduced power driving (I was trying to find a safe spot to turn out of 6 lane road). Vehicle had to be towed to dealer who states the Integrated Charge Control Unit ICCU is not working and needs to be replaced. (i suspect the popping sound was related to that - ?blown fuse). The Part is on back order and has to be ordered from Korea and during the weeks long wait they do not have a loaner care to provide. This ICCU issue had a recall with software fix in 2025 which was performed on my vehicle. Why is Hyundai not fixing this problem for good. And why are they not providing me a loaner car?

My 2024 ioniq 5 has no recall but they have a well known issue where the ICCU does not charge the 12v as expected. this results in loss of power. In my situation, i was driving on the freeway at 65MPH when i got the low 12V battery message and my car slowed down and I was not able to accelerate at even street speed. I was fortunate enough to pull the car over from the left lane to the right shoulder as the traffic was light. This could have easily resulted in an accident. The yellow airbag SRS critical safety restraint wire runs exposed and loose and drooping beneth the front seats with NO space between the harness and the floor (it could have been run above the seat plate or otherwise protected. Mine snagged on something and was torn from the terminal block and has disable the airbag. Hyundai denies it a defective design or assembly and had denied warranty coverage but wants $10,000 to enable it - $6,933 for the part - $3,000 labor. The driver seat moves back and forth automatically when entering and existing - there is no control of the movement and anything more than 1/2 high is able to become tangled and disable the airbag without warning. Hyundai via emails to their legal counsel as well as customer care is fully advised but has denied warranty status or other fix or accomadation. The warrenty for this car - for which coverage has been denied - is in full force per Hyundai's express terms. This is a critical safety issue which upon limited investagation effects numous ioniq5's of multiple years besides the 2024 limited. Note also the 2024 limited has a movable drivers seat foot rest which is prone to sweep matters under the seat when lowered.

While backing into my driveway if a car passes in front on the street my car will not continue backing up. This also happens in parking lots. While backing out of my driveway onto the street and staying in the lane closest to the driveway, traffic in the far lane will cause the car to stop moving even though the street is more than wide enough to accommodate both cars without crossing the double yellow lines. As I live on a busy street this can cause an accident. In both cases turning off the parkin sensors with the dashboard button has no effect.

My wife was parking the 2024 ioniq and it lurched forward at a high rate of speed and slammed into another car parked in our driveway and drove that vehicle through our home garage door. She feels certain that her foot was on the brake, but even if she accidentally slipped and appleid the brake the forward collision system should have prevented the accident additionally the impact occurred with such force it is unlikely due to human error as it pushed our very heavy 4Runner back 3 feet and thorough a closed garage door.

On March 22, 2025, our 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 suffered a sudden, complete loss of power while driving at night, after receiving Hyundai’s recall service in January. While driving on city roads, the car displayed “Check Battery” errors despite the main EV battery showing ~75% charge. After stopping, we had AAA install a new 12V battery, which did not resolve the issue. Minutes later, while crossing a Y-shaped highway interchange, the car lost the ability to accelerate, leaving us stranded in a dangerous area. Hyundai Roadside Assistance gave an 89-minute ETA and failed to dispatch a tow capable of transporting our family of three. We were forced to call our insurance to tow the vehicle to safety. The car is now inoperable at a dealership. Hyundai has not followed up. This is a major safety concern — involving either the 12V system or software post-recall — and could impact other vehicles. Photos, screenshots, and documentation are available.

When driving in i-Pedal, which is a "one pedal driving option", sometimes after pausing the car rolls backs several inches. This appears to be a defect with the powetrain, regenerative braking engine, or otherwise. Hyundai's dealership has been advised of this issue; they have escalated this internally. A car in drive forward should never due to electrical or software reasons be told to move backwards -- which is what is happening here.

LANE DEPARTURE

When on a highway with lane-keeping assist engaged, the car sometimes steers into the left-hand lane. It seems to happen most often when the road bends to the right. The car straddles the lane divider into the fast lane to the left. This occurs in otherwise perfect conditions: sunny, dry days on roads with clear white stripes demarking the lanes. I must fight with it to get it back in the proper lane. This is very dangerous. I'm convinced it will cause a high-speed crash. Another driver I spoke with said she had seen the same problem and wouldn't use the lane guidance because of it. I'm extremely cautious when I use it now. The problem has happened multiple times.

1 complaint
While turning a corner at low speed to enter a parking lot, the right rear tire lifted up onto the curb. The car stopped at a parking spot 100ft later. A low tire pressure alarm indicated an issue, upon inspection there was an audible hiss and the right rear of the car was lower than the other sides. As there was no spare, roadside assistance was contacted and towed the car to the nearest dealership for estimate. The dealer found the right rear wheel was bent on the inside and the wheel, tire, pressure sensor would need to be replaced. The cost was $1,612.68 and was covered by insurance. The point of failure on the wheel was not at the site of impact with the curb. The right rear wheel/tire would touch the curb on the outside first. There was no observable damage to the outside wheel. The inside wheel would have been exposed to much less force, most due to the mass of the car lifted on that corner. If not related to the specific wheel, but to the design, repeat incidents can happen when hitting potholes or other road obstacles/debris and result in a quick deflation while at speed. There was no visible damage, cracks, impressions on the tire. Only the rim was visibly damaged by this incident. The car had been purchased 4 days prior.

I took my 2024 limited Ioniq 5 to the dealership [XXX] to have a TSB looked at and because on [XXX], I took out the cabin air filter out of the car, as I have been noticing a smell of chemical in the cabin of the car. I noticed that the filter was covered in blue windshield wiper fluid and smelled of the same chemical smell as what my wife and I had been smelling and what I believe has been giving us headaches on long trips when driving to San Antonio, Texas to visit our grandson over the last two months. The Technicians at the Hyundai Dealership where I took my car had conducted an inspection and found the filter was covered in windshield fluid and noted that it is most likely caused by a defect in manufacturing or design within the vents where the fluid drains. Which also means that rainwater or water from washing the car could also be going into the cabin air filter housing. The dealership informed me that they have taken pictures and will forward to Hyundai as part of the process however they believe that this could result in a recall, as they noted that there is not a fix, they can provide to stop the fluid from going into the housing and that it is a health risk among other things. They noted that they believe this to be on the new 2024 models as they have not had the issue on the 2022-2023 models. I am concerned that drivers such as myself are being exposed to the effects of inhaling these fluids which include Headaches, blurred vision, vomiting and other unpleasant effects related to inhaling the vapors from this fluid. I only have this one car and cannot simply avoid driving it in weather where I would have to use my wipers and fluid. I would like to have this defect corrected ASAP to avoid any long-term health effects. The dealership was unable to provide a loaner vehicle and I have to wait until Hyundai is able to work a solution or more people complain about it. The collision detection and early warning system behaves in a manner that deceives the driver into believing a collision is imminent every time the car begins to reverse out of a normal parking spot you find in a parking lot. Despite the car knowing the vehicle is in the reverse gear the driver will begin receiving audible, visible, and haptic feedback alering the driver of an imminent collision. After pausing the procedure of vacating a parking spot to determine where the car has detected a collision the HUD indicates that it is the sensors in the front of the car that were detecting a possible collision despite the car being in reverse and moving away from the objects the front sensors detected. Furthermore, these alerts don't begin until you begin reversing which makes the situation very dangerous for all parties as the driver is now having to freeze and reassess again before proceeding. But the most dangerous problem about this scenario I am describing is that I as a driver have now gotten used to these "false" positives and as a result I assume any alerts I here while backing out are just the front sensors being noisy when it could be someones child behind the car I am driving. Fix this! How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? High risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. Working as intended from all research I have found online from other Ioniq 5 owners.
