The driver side wiper stopped functioning during a rain storm. Fortunately, I was not on a major road and was able to navigate. If I had been on the highway, I would have been blinded and potentially in a major accident if not able to pull over expeditiously. This malfunction occurred approximately one year earlier and was corrected by the dealer at that time. I believe some Hyundai Palisades have had a recall for this issue in the past. I am concerned that this has recurred and not been fixed definitively. This issue has potential fatal consequences. I am taking the vehicle to the dealer tomorrow to address the issue. I cannot take it today as it is still raining and I would be placing myself and others at risk.

Driver side windshield wiper has stopped working after encountering snow. The issue was initially intermittent, but now the wiper on the driver's side has stopped working completely. In searching, this is a known issue with other Palisades.

I was driving in a downpour today at approximately 11:30 am at 40mph when the driver side wiper stopped working. This is a verified recall issue which WAS REPAIRED on February 28, 2023. I was able to pull over safely into a parking lot until the weather calmed and then was able to very carefully drive home on side roads.

SUSPENSION
45 complaints
Vehicle is experiencing a breakdown in chassis with the failure of at least one rear selfleveling shock absorber on the right rear suspension of the vehicle and possibly the same condition exists on the left rear suspension. Concern exists for the shock absorber mount to completely become detached from the frame assembly resulting in loss of stability and vehicle control. Hyundai dearlership has been contacted for assistance in remedy of the situation but they have failer to respond to request for replacement/repair of the failed shock absorber mount which has been been noted in a Hyundai Service bulletin.

Car has 45,000 miles and the rear shocks are blown and making a rattling popping noise.
Oct 29, 2025
I purchased this vehicle with 18,000 miles on the odometer. I am not a reckless driver, and primarily commute to and from work on paved roads. At 29366 miles, I had to have one of the rear shock absorbers replaced after it started making a strange noise. Again at 49596 miles, both rear shock absorbers had to be replaced. I recently took this car back to the shop with 86000 miles on the odometer and once again the shocks are having to be replaced. This is a known defect with Hyundai's self leveling rear shocks. The first two incidents were covered under warranty, but Hyundai is refusing the replace them this time because it is no longer under the manufacturer warranty.

Rear driver side shock is bad loud bumping noise while driving makes car very unsettling feels unsafe
Oct 14, 2025
The rear shocks wear out extremely quickly and require replacement every 10-20K miles. They make an awful clicking noise on acceleration, deceleration, and turning. The dealer has seen it, diagnosed the problem, and refused to cover even under their extended warranty that I purchased.

Engine is burning/consuming oil before required oil change. The oil levels are low enough that the vehicle will shutter or stall when coming to a stop. This is a known issue with 2020 Hyundai Palisades.
Dec 12, 2025
Twice the engine oil consumption was bone dry. No warning lights or oil leaks on the driveway were seen. The engine without oil was subject to destruction . We replaced the oil twice - with documentation . Oil changes were made within 6 months since we purchased the car ( documentation was given ). It is known that specific models were affected by a bad engine that was installed ! Hyundai has offered nothing but aggravation even though it is known that there is a problem with specific engines that were put into the 2020 Hyundai palisade .

This report describes a catastrophic engine failure, framing the event in the context of the widespread Hyundai GDI engine oil consumption issue and its impact on oil-dependent systems like the CVVT/OCV. Description of Incident @ 148,000 miles my vehicle oil was changed. On May 15, 2025, @ 151,000 miles my 2020 Hyundai Palisade was serviced at Patterson Hyundai Tyler (3120 S SW Loop 323, Tyler, TX 75701) for the replacement of the oil intake valve (OCV/CVVT solenoid). With reports of oil consumption. This type of service is often necessitated by sludge or contamination from excessive oil consumption clogging the valve screens and restricting oil flow to the VVT system. Shortly after this service, on 05/22/25, the engine experienced a catastrophic failure. There was an immediate and loud metallic grinding noise (consistent with severe internal bearing/connecting rod damage), followed by complete loss of engine power and instantaneous stalling. The failure is assessed to be a result of the underlying GDI defect related to excessive oil consumption, which can lead to internal engine starvation. This starvation may have been triggered or exacerbated by a failure within the oil circulation path (potentially involving the recently serviced OCV or adjacent components). The vehicle is part of the population of Hyundai GDI engines known for issues where low oil levels—due to consumption—or contamination lead to bearing and connecting rod failure. The vehicle has all maintence records and can provide them. The vehicle is currently located at Greenville Hyundai at 5395 I-30 Frontage Rd, Greenville, TX 75402 and is available for inspection upon request. Service Manager is Isaac.

Engine started burning oil at 65000 miles. It has now run almost completely out of oil twice at about 4200 miles since last oil change, not even close to reaching the manufacturer recommended interval of 7500 miles between oil changes. On top of the engine consuming oil at an alarming rate, there are no warning indicator lights that turn on to let you know your oil level is critically low.

On roadtrip with family to daughter’s soccer tournament. Car started to shift funny then engine light turned on along with warning display saying something was wrong with the engine. We were only hour into driving so drove hour back home to dealership/service for Hyundai. They looked over the car and reported that we did the right thing by bringing it back and not continuing our roadtrip with it. The thermostat wasn’t working which would cause issues to engine with overheating and putting my family at risk with driving it on road trip with engine overheating.

The air compressor on my 2020 Hyundai Palisade with 55,321 miles has completely malfunctioned. The issue was diagnosed by Five Star Hyundai Dealership in Macon, Georgia on 9/26/25 and is currently available for inspection. The repair will cost $1,781. A failed A/C compressor in a 5-year-old vehicle could put my safety or others’ safety at risk due to reduced visibility from poor defrosting, driver impairment from extreme heat, and secondary damage affecting critical systems like steering or electrical power. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to air compressor failure. However, Hyundai has issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) for certain 2020–2022 Palisade vehicles regarding the AC compressor. Bulletin 24-HA-003H: This TSB addresses reduced AC performance due to an "out of specification" AC compressor pulley and hub assembly. Sunroof stuck in partially open position and will not close. This is a known issue with a Technical Service Bulletin: TSB #MC-10235352-0001.
Sep 25, 2025
The sunroof wind deflector broke when I simply opened the sunroof, and the sunroof is now stuck in the open position. I wish TSB 23-BD-003H-1 would've included my VIN so I could've addressed this issue prior to it breaking. Now I am faced with a $3400 repair bill from Hyundai. Hyundai said there is no cheaper option to partially fix it to at least get it closed. Other repair shops are referring me to Hyundai to complete the repair.
Sep 16, 2025
Went to open the sunroof the back opened a little but would not open all the way and now it won’t shut either. I’ve seen a few other owners say that this happened to them as well.
May 21, 2025
Dear NHTSA, I am writing to report a safety concern regarding my 2020 Hyundai Palisade. Recently, when I attempted to operate the sunroof, it only opened partially and made a crackling sound. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that some of the internal plastic components were breaking apart, and now the sunroof does not close properly. After researching this issue online, I discovered that numerous other owners are experiencing the exact same problem. For reference, here are a couple of user-reported discussions highlighting similar experiences: [XXX] [XXX] Additionally, I came across a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) related to this very issue, which can be found here: [XXX] However, when I checked my vehicle’s VIN, it did not appear to be included in the list of affected models, despite my vehicle exhibiting the same symptoms described in the bulletin. This leads me to believe that the scope of affected VINs may not have been fully identified. Given the number of similar complaints shared by other Hyundai Palisade owners, it appears this may be a more widespread issue than initially recognized. I respectfully request that NHTSA consider investigating this matter further, as it may help protect and support additional Hyundai customers who are dealing with this problem and have not yet been offered a resolution. Thank you for your attention to this matter. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I rent my vehicle on the Turo app Market and depend On it as income. When this recall occurred the vehicle was suspended from the platform as it was being rented out to a client and was not informed during the recall as she was driving it, therefore putting her at risk, as well as myself as a host. Its been a month and now I am unable to do business or drive the car knowing the potential consequences stated by the recall indefinitely.

The third row seat belt buckles get crushed and deformed when the 3rd row seats are folded down. The folding process is automatic with a button. No option for manual folding, so it’s not human error from folding too hard or manually crushing the buckles. I’m not sure when the buckles got crushed or how many times of folding the seats led to the crushing. We rarely use the 3rd row but we are unable to latch the rear buckles because the plastic casing is cracked and crushed. I’ve researched the issue online and many other owners have complained about this problem in forums and with dealers.

The wind deflector for the sunroof malfunctioned while attempting to close the sunroof. The wind deflector became lodged in the track for the sunroof and broke which caused the sunroof to shift and not close fully. When researched online, this is a common occurrence with this year and model vehicle. It could potentially cause the glass to shatter above the drivers head and cause an accident. The sunroof would not fully close causing it to leak when it rained. The glass panel was removed and manually slid into the closed position to prevent further damage. Now the sunroof is inoperable. The vehicle can be inspected upon request. The issue has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or anyone else. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure. we would like this issue to be resolved as it is a potential hazard.

THE LIFTGATE STRUTS CAN COME APART AT ANYTIME. WE HAD THE RIGHT SIDE COME APART LAST YEAR. HYUNDAI REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. TODAY THE LEFT ONE HAS FAILED. THE STRUTS HAVE POWERFUL SPRINGS INSIDE AND I THINK SOMEONE COULD GET HURT.
Sep 30, 2023
The rear liftgate will not close more than half-way down whether using the remote, the dash-mounted switch, the rear inner button, or manually. Since the rear lights including the stop and turn lights) are mounted on this door, this seems like a safety issue. We've contacted every Hundai dealer in town and were told they might be able to get us in 3 weeks or so down the timeline. Googling this particular issue came up with one earlier similar failure that turned out to be a plastic part that broke and jammed the door.
Sep 01, 2023
Both rear liftgate supports have developed cracks in their plastic housings. The cracks result in a loss of function for the power liftgate and a possibility of the springs inside popping out of the housing and striking the operator.

When exiting the vehicle the door ripped a gash in my right leg in the calf area. There was a recall, they supposedly fixed it. It happened again after the repair was made. It doesn't look to me the repair was made. It was repaired by Doug's Hyundai on 04/07/2022. I have contacted HyundaiUSA and have a case opened but all I am getting is the runaround. The windshield on the Hyundai Palisade presents a safety hazard. The windshield cracks at low impact of a micro-pebble. The windshield could potentially cause a fatality if the car is involved in an accident. The problem has been confirmed by Hyundai but the company is only recalling the Kia Telluride for a defective windshield. The chip in the windshield immediately expands a crack across the driver's view which causes a visibility issue. The cracks cause a blinding reflection from the crack which makes the vehicle inoperable due to the driver's inability to see clearly due to the crack in eyeview.

Issues began in November of 2024 Began with a a oil consumption test and failed. Submitted for a new engine due to high oil consumption 3 quarts in 1,000 miles. Waited 6 months for a new engine to be available. July 2025 noted oil leaking brought in for repair and stated it was a boot joint that was leaking. Multiple return trips to repair since oil was still leaking. Check Engine light came on in , September and a faulty sensor in engine was noted (for mixing air and gas?), replaced sensor. Oil still continues to leak and after insisting they take the entire engine out to figure out where it was coming from a leaking faulty oil plug was noted on the rear side of the engine.
Nov 07, 2025
The vehicle experiencing excessive oil consumption without any external leaks. Since February 2024, I have repeatedly reported this issue to the dealership. They required me to complete multiple 1,000 mile oil consumption tests and eventually performed a combustion chamber cleaning. Despite this, the oil consumption problem continues. As of today, after driving only 3,700 miles, the engine oil level was so ow that the dipstick did not register any oil at all. No warning lights or dashboard indicators ever came on to alert me to the low oil level. The dealership has acknowledged my concerns but stated that Hyundai considers this "normal specs". I strongly disagree, as the amount of oil being consumed poses a safety risk if the engine fails while driving. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer during inspections, but no permanent repair has been offered. The ongoing issue creates a serious risk to both my safety and the safety of others on the road due to potential engine failure from lack of lubrication.

Safety Complaint Summary: I am filing a safety complaint regarding my 2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL AWD, ~96,000 miles). This vehicle has suffered three major powertrain failures under 100,000 miles: - Full engine replacement (due to excessive oil consumption, unresolved for months) - AWD system repairs - Now requires a full transmission replacement When my engine began burning oil, Hyundai’s service department charged me ~$500 and sent me back on the road without disclosing that this was a known issue. I continued running out of oil multiple times until an independent mechanic diagnosed the defect. My family was unknowingly placed at risk while Hyundai delayed resolution for 8 months. Diminished Value: The repeated nature of these failures not only raises safety concerns but has also destroyed the market value of the vehicle. Even after a transmission replacement, the Palisade remains a car that no buyer would trust — which underscores the seriousness of these systemic safety risks. Relief Requested: I ask NHTSA to review whether this defect pattern represents a broader safety issue and whether Hyundai should have disclosed the known oil consumption defect earlier and should investigate why a vehicle is suffering three powertrain issues and if this is a wider problem with the car type/year. A notice to consumers should be issued so we are not driving around in an unsafe car.

Over the past 5 years, this vehicle has experienced three major powertrain failures: two complete transmission failures and, most recently, a catastrophic engine failure. The most recent issue involved the engine burning excessive oil without warning. While my wife was driving downhill, the vehicle shut off completely, causing a total loss of power steering and braking. She was barely able to get it safely to the side of the road. It was a serious safety risk, especially with children in the vehicle. Each failure has occurred well before it should in terms of mileage, and despite repairs, the issues continue. After this third failure, Hyundai offered to cover only 50% of the repair costs—which seems to acknowledge some degree of corporate responsibility—but we declined, as this is a relatively new vehicle and the problem is clearly systemic. We paid the second total transmission replacement completely out of pocket. A quick Google search and outreach to social media revealed that hundreds of Hyundai owners (across multiple models from this era) are experiencing very similar engine issues, many with official recalls for consumption, but there being no official recall or widespread support for Palisade owners. Personal stories suggest a clear pattern. The original dealership that sold the vehicle listed it as Certified Pre-Owned, but has since changed ownership and retains no records, which has made verifying the warranty status impossible. Hyundai corporate and customer service have been extremely difficult to work with—there are multiple active case numbers, no internal communication, and the local dealership doesn’t coordinate with national reps. This vehicle has spent over 100 days in service across these failures. I’ve tried every route available—dealership, corporate support, and online forums. The community is unsafe, and without broader action, other families could be at risk.

We have a a reoccurring issue of a gear selector malfunction warning popping up on the dash. When this happens it is at random and causes the vehicle to forcibly put the car in park. The heavy concern is that it happens when the car is in motion. Forst few times it happened when backing out of a parking spot. Most recently it happened while driving out of our neighborhood. My concern is that this could potentially happen during a time in which speeds are higher and cause a wreck. We have taken the vehicle to Hyundai dealership locally and the code for the issue will not show so they send us home because they are not able to pinpoint the exact problem. We have continued use of the vehicle because when this does happen we have been able to cycle the car off and on and it goes back to normal and all warnings are cleared..... this cannot be normal a nd I just don't wish to find out what happens when it does this at a higher rate of speed.

Purchased a 2020 Palisade in March of 2024 with 76k miles on it. Asked the dealership we bought it from to look at the transmission after a week of owning the car, they said it was fine. I took it to Hallmark Hyundai dealership on 9/26/24 and they would not look at it until i had the transmission fluid flushed this was at 88430 miles. It was barely making it up a hill, we had the gas pedal to the floor and it was pulling back like it was going to stall. I scheduled to have the transmission fluid flushed at a local certified mechanic and he found tons of metal shaving and chunks throughout the fluid this was done at 89368 miles. I took it to Wilson County Hyundai after this was done and they said I needed a full transmission replacement this was done at 89643. They replaced the transmission, and on my way home from picking the car up there was metal grinding sounds coming from the transmission. I called Wilson County back and they asked me to bring it back, it was back on their lot less than 24 hours later. The transmission that was sent from the manufacture was a faulty transmission. The replaced the new transmission, and the sound stopped this was done at 89730 miles. After a couple thousand miles the metal grinding came back, along with the hard shifting, gear skipping, excessive vibration between gears, going up in RPMs but not shifting. I took it Jim Johnson Hyundai and they reset the Transmission adaptive, this is not fix the problem this was done at 96497. It back in the dealership now at Wilson county with the mileage of 99000 and their service manager told me they have 5 of them on their lot right now needing new transmissions. The car has less than 100k miles on it.

Started my palisade and put the car in reverse. After 1 or 2 seconds, my car went to neutral. Error showed on my cluster “Shifter system malfunction! Service immediately”. I tried multiple times to put my car in park, drive or reverse without luck. After about 2 minutes the cluster said it couldn’t put the car in park and it automatically set the emergency brake. I had to shut the car off with it in neutral. I was able to restart the car and it did go into gear.

VEHICLE WINDSHIELD STARTED CRACKING AT THE TOP MIDDLE AND MOVED DOWN THE WINDSHIELD. WE DID NOT NOTICE ANY ROCK HITS TO HAVE CAUSED IT. WITHIN 2 DAYS THE CRACK SPREAD ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TO THE EDGE. IT HAS NOW STARTED TO DO THE SAME TOWARDS THE DRIVERS SIDE. FROM RESEARCHING FOR A REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD IT SEEMS LIKE THE WINDSHIELD CRACKING IS A MAJOR ISSUE FOR THIS VEHICLE.

STEERING

The steering on the vehicle will stop responding when turning at low speeds. The vehicle will feel like it hits the “bump stop” and then will come back to center. You can then turn past that point. This has almost cause accidents because you cannot effectively steer to avoid obstacles and cannot maneuver effectively at low speeds. It occurred randomly. Was troubleshot at dealership without resolution because they could not replicate the issue. There are no hazard lights indicating an error.

There is a whining noise in the steering system when turning the wheel at slow speeds
Jan 27, 2025
When the steering wheel is turned completely to one side or the other there is a loud thud and the steering wheel "bucks". It has momentarily locked once. This is dangerous when driving. The Hyundai service center verified the issue. Advised not to turn the wheel all the way over and to disengage the auto engine idle. They said it was due to voltage issue. A copy of the service report is attached.

The roads were icy and my son pulled over to wait out the storm. Our car was parked. Another car slid on the ice and stuck our Hyundai Palisade in the rear. It was a minor impact, no airbags deployed and nobody was injured. The steering column sheered off and the steering wheel was cut loose from the column. Hyundai has an open recall campaign on a similar model (NHTSA campaign #18V118000) for this exact problem of steering wheels sheering from the column. Hyundai sent an investigator to check the car and reports to me that there is no defect with my car. The insurance company is planning to repair the car, including the steering assembly, and return it to me. It is hard to believe that this incident, which occurred on a car built just a few months after the models that were recalled, could be a coincidence. There was no prior warning. The car is now at body repair shop and is available for inspection.

On July fourth, while driving, the vehicle began to shake and make a rattling noise, shifted into park, and the dashboard lights lit up. While attempting to reach the safe side of the road while driving downhill on a busy road, the car lost power. I was able to pull over, restart the car, and reach a safe destination. I took the vehicle to the mechanic, who initially said I needed new tires, so all four tires were replaced. Three days later, the incident with the car shifting and losing power occurred again. The second time, I took it to the Hyundai dealership, which determined that only an oil change was needed, although I had completed regular maintenance on the vehicle. In November, the vehicle began shaking again and lost power while in motion. Again, the vehicle was taken to the Hyundai dealership, which stated that there were possible issues with the oil consumption.

Engine is burning Oil at a rate that requires me to put 2 quarts of full synthetic oil every 2-3 weeks in my car. Hyundai is ignoring this problem and dealership says my engine is burning in a normal range. This is a known issue with these engines at hyundai over the past few years and if it is burning that much oil without any leaks there is no way that is safe.

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The engine failed, as it was deemed "shot" by the dealership. Yes, the engine and vehicle are available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The vehicle began to stall while driving, which could have caused an accident, especially if the vehicle stalled in traffic or at high speeds. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the problem was confirmed by the dealership, which diagnosed the engine as needing replacement due to a lack of oil. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, the vehicle exhibited strange noises in the last week of October 2024 and symptoms of stalling in early November 2024. The check engine light turned on while driving to the dealership, just before the final diagnosis.

I PURCHASED A NEW 2020 HYUNDAI PALISADE SEL FROM QUIRK HYUNDAI IN BANGOR MAINE ON 3/06/2020, UPON GETTING IT HOME AND USING IT WITH MY CHILDREN, WE DISCOVERED THAT THE WALK THROUGH SHOULDER BUTTON, IF PRESSED, WILL STILL CAUSE THE SEAT TO FOLD AND SLIDE FORWARD EVEN WITH A PASSENGER, AND IF THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION THIS FUNCTION IS STILL ENABLED. I HAD MY 8 YEAR OLD TRIPLETS IN THE VEHICLE ON 3/07/2020, AND WE WERE DRIVING IN TOWN TO THE LOCAL RESTAURANT. CHILDREN, BEING INQUISITIVE, WERE INSPECTING EVERY FEATURE OF THE VEHICLE WITHIN THEIR REACH. ONE PRESSED THE BUTTON AND WE HEARD THE ELECTRONIC RELEASE, UNSURE OF WHAT THE SOUND WAS AT THE TIME, I DID AN INSPECTION LATER AND REALIZED IT WAS THE WALK THROUGH LATCH. I THEN RAN A FEW CIRCUMSTANTIAL EXPERIMENTS WITH MY ADULT SON TO TEST MY CONCERN THAT THIS FEATURE MIGHT CAUSE HARM IF ACTIVATED AT THE WRONG TIME. MY CONCERNS WERE CONFIRMED WITH THIS TEST. MY ADULT SON IN THE SEAT, PRESSED THE BUTTON WHILE I WAS DRIVING 5 MILES PER HOUR, AND THEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. IN ONCE INSTANCE, HIS SEAT WENT FULL FORWARD AND HE WAS FORCEFULLY PROJECTED INTO THE SEAT IN FRONT OF HIM . The alternator suddenly failed. This caused the batter to rapidly deplete and lose all electrical function of the vehicle. Loss of power steering, breaks, lights, instrument cluster and gauges. basically the vehicle rolled to a stop. Further investigation has shown that this issue is not uncommon on the Palisade. A quick google search revealed dozens of people with the same issue. Since it’s on several year models of the Palisade it points to the alternator. It goes out and the battery cannot support the electronics.

Our motor has been consuming a lot of oil, we were told that Hyundai knows about the issue and that there is nothing they can do. We got sold a poor excuse of a warranty in which they never told us that the warranty would not cover oil consumption, but we have the “best” warranty they had. Our car has died GOING DOWN THE ROAD WITH MY 4 kids and WIFE! Cars had to swerve to avoid a collision, 5 times this has happened but yet they will not do anything! We will be seeking legal help!

The vehicle has an engine flaw, which caused the vehicle engine to stop running while I was driving down a busy highway to take my children to their activities. The traffic behind me nearly slammed into the back of my Hyundai Palisade because the engine cut off without warning. There was no indication of engine trouble, no dashboard lights, no warnings at all. All the preventive maintenance was performed at the dealership, including an oil change only one month prior to this incident. Turns out the engine cut off because of lack of oil. Now I am finding out from the dealership and the manufacturer that the engine does have a known Oil Consumption issue causing the combustion chamber to need cleaning before and beyond a preventive maintenance schedule. But there still needs to be a warning light or something to inform the driver about the potential engine cut off. It is unsafe to drive, and unfair for the owner to pay for this manufacturer flaw.

I was recently involved in an accident with my 2020 Palisade that I believe may have been caused by a brake failure. I was simply moving the vehicle from one part of a driveway to another when, as I drove over a drainage ditch, the brakes did not respond and the car suddenly accelerated into a tree. I sustained facial injuries and was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The vehicle is currently at Canby Motors in Bel Air and is available for inspection. On 1/24/2023 I was driving down the road from my home to go to work when, as I was going down an incline, my brakes started pulsing and I lost all braking ability. I drove thru a stop sign, into the intersection and was able to steer the car down the road. It was down a hillside. I was able to eventually stop the vehicle approximately a mile and half from where the brakes failed. I was instructed by the dealership to have the car towed to them so they could evaluate what happened. I did this. The dealership is trying to assess what happened. After 1 week, they replaced all 4 tires, did an alignment and replaced a leaking rear shock. The vehicle had 36,201 miles as of 1/24/2023. The dealership claims that the wear on the tires and the vehicle being out of alignment caused the wheel speed sensor to misread the speed and triggered the ABS to unlock all brakes. When this happened, all the warning lights for the braking system came on: ABS, Auto Hold, Traction Control, Forward Colision Avoidance System, Downhill Descent Control. I had nothing to stop me. Thankfully, no other vehicles came thru the intersection when my vehicle lost control. The dealership has, after a week, supplied me with a loaner vehicle. They are trying to duplicate the loss of brakes and all the lights that were activated when I lost my brakes. I also mentioned to the Service Manager at the dealership that I have repeatedly been asking the technicians to check the tires and to rotate the tires at our last few service appointments and had been assured the tires were fine and the tire rotation would be done. We normally have the tire rotation done every 7,000 miles due to the fact that it is an AWD. If this had been done as we requested, how could this happen? Wouldn't someone have noticed uneven tire wear? Our major concern is that when the brakes fail, you have no backup braking system in place. Is there something wrong with the programming for the electronic braking system?

While merging onto a highway, my 2020 Hyundai Palisade abruptly lost all engine power and stalled. This immediate and complete failure occurred at a critical moment, posing an extreme safety risk. All dashboard warning lights illuminated, but provided no specific diagnosis. The vehicle was towed to a dealership, where technicians determined the engine was consuming oil at an abnormal rate, despite a lack of visible leaks. I was instructed to participate in an "oil consumption test," a three-part process that required multiple oil changes and inspections over several months. Each time, the vehicle had burned over a quart of oil—a clear indication of a defect. Despite this evidence, Hyundai denied my warranty claim, accusing me of negligence for being unable to produce oil change records between 29,600 and 46,900 miles. This is a common and unacceptable tactic used to avoid accountability for a widespread issue. My experience is not isolated. Hundreds, if not thousands, of owners of 2020-2023 Hyundai models, including the Palisade, report identical engine oil over-consumption issues and subsequent power loss. This issue is a **severe safety hazard** that can lead to sudden, catastrophic engine failure and potential accidents. Hyundai's refusal to acknowledge this defect and issue a recall is **gross negligence**. They are knowingly allowing thousands of unsafe vehicles to remain on the road. There are currently federal lawsuits against Hyundai for this very issue. The transportation authority must force Hyundai to issue an immediate recall and remedy this critical defect before a tragedy occurs.

Engine started burning oil at around 70,000 miles. It now runs almost completely out of oil at around 5,000 miles since last oil change, not even close to reaching the manufacturer recommended interval of 7500 miles between oil changes. On top of the engine consuming oil at an alarming rate, there are no warning indicator lights that turn on to let you know your oil level is critically low. At around 74,000 miles?, Hyundai did a combustion cleaning. I've had two oil changes and it was back to vibrating, knocking, shifting hard, etc, right before a 3rd one at 5,300 miles since the last one and it stalled. The vehicle has now stalled twice, all engine lights flashed, then car stalled. Thankfully, this was not on an interstate or major road. This is a major problem!

Vehicle Information: Year: 2020 Make: Hyundai Model: Palisade Component(s): Air Conditioning System / A/C Compressor Problem Description: The air conditioning compressor on my 2020 Hyundai Palisade has failed and does not function properly. The A/C system does not blow cold air, making the vehicle extremely uncomfortable and unsafe in hot weather conditions, especially with small children riding in the vehicle. Hyundai has issued a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) regarding a known defect with the A/C compressor in this model. Despite this, the dealership and manufacturer have refused to cover the repair or replacement under warranty or goodwill, even though this is clearly a widespread and acknowledged defect. I was quoted nearly $5,000 for the repair, which I cannot afford. Safety Concern: While the issue may appear to be only comfort-related, lack of functioning A/C creates real safety risks: Heat-related health concerns in hot climates, particularly for small children and elderly passengers. Reduced visibility if the defroster system does not work properly (since the A/C system is needed to remove moisture and fog from windows). Timeline of Events: Vehicle purchased: Purchased December 2023 First noticed issue: [XXX] Brought vehicle to dealership: [XXX] Dealer confirmed issue with A/C compressor but refused repair, citing that only certain VINs or conditions are covered, even though a TSB exists. Request: I am filing this complaint because Hyundai is aware of this widespread A/C compressor defect (per their TSB) but is not providing proper warranty coverage or resolution. This places an unfair financial burden on consumers and presents a potential safety hazard, especially for families with small children who cannot safely ride in extreme heat without a functioning A/C system. Description of Incident: The engine in my 2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited failed and ultimately seized despite having been regularly maintained and receiving an oil change less than 3,000 miles prior to the failure. The component that failed was the engine, and according to the dealership, it is seized and no longer operable. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The failure posed a significant safety risk. The engine began shaking while the vehicle was in motion, creating a sudden loss of power and drivability. I pulled over immediately and discovered that the engine oil dipstick was dry. I added oil right away, but the engine shut down shortly after. The abrupt loss of engine function while driving could have led to a serious accident had I been in traffic or at highway speed. Reproduction / Confirmation: Yes, the issue was confirmed by Hyundai at Courtesy, a certified Hyundai dealership. They diagnosed the engine as seized and also confirmed that oil was present at the time of inspection, ruling out owner neglect. Inspections Conducted: The vehicle and failed component (engine) have been inspected by the dealership, who submitted a case to Hyundai. However, the case was denied for goodwill coverage despite the circumstances. The manufacturer has been notified but has not physically inspected the engine themselves beyond the dealership’s report. Warning Lamps or Symptoms: No Check Engine Light, oil pressure warning, or any dashboard message illuminated prior to or during the failure. The only symptom was engine shaking, which began just before the engine shut down. The oil loss occurred silently and without warning, making the issue especially dangerous and difficult to detect in time.

The car started very slightly making a clunking noise and it progressively got worse. We've taken it for every scheduled maintenance and didn't know anything was wrong. We asked for it to be specifically checked at our recent oil change and were told it is a unfortunate COMMON issue that HYUNDAI IS AWARE of BUT the warranty ended on that about 6 months ago - something that should've been addressed and resolved, they waited until out of warranty and didn't do anything and now the fix is $1700 (rear struts need to be replaced) car jumps and it will get even worse. Also the wipers turn on when there is no rain but don't turn on when it rains the sensors are messed up

My tire was losing air so we took it to a local tire shop to be repaired thinking it had a nail in it or something. Turns out it was losing air because the wheel was cracked and slightly bent. The only 2 people who drive this car are my husband and I and neither of us could recall hitting or running over anything. The Hyundai dealer refused to submit a warranty claim (car had 16,200 miles on it), so we called Hyundai corporate and they submitted a warranty claim that would be assigned to a case manager and they would get back to us. That was 5/24 and by 6/15 we still hadn't heard anything back from them in spite of calling 3 more times to check the status of the case. I believe either this particular wheel was defective or the engineering design of the wheel is wrong. We still have the wheel for inspection. No warning lights other than the low tire pressure warning came on. The dealer inspected the wheel twice and Les Schwab (tire place) inspected it twice and installed a used ("take-off") wheel for us yesterday. The tire had no damage and there was no damage of any kind anywhere on my car, so I find it hard to believe that we could have hit something so hard to crack the wheel but had no other damage and couldn't remember any such event. The crack is over 1 inch long and absolutely could have caused a blowout or accident, so we weren't able to use the car much for a month except right around our home.

I am the 3rd time owner of this palisade. Car was bought after a transmission replacement at 27,000 miles. (Second transmission). They call to tell us the new engine is done, and proceed to share the transmission is bad and it needs a new one (3rd transmission). They are asking us to pay for the transmission as well. We want a buy back as we think this is a lemon car. 3 transmissions and a new engine under 85000 miles is not good and definitely grounds for investigation. These repeated failures make it unsafe/unreliable for us to drive our 6 month old baby in, let alone my wife and my myself. . We request and investigation/buyback.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

I was driving through town at a low rate of speed (20-30 mph) with 2-3 car lengths between me and the next vehicle. I continued through light to next light. This distance was on an upward incline. After traveling approximately 500 ft, I noticed the traffic slowing in front of me and took my foot off the accelerator to start to slow down. This is when the car suddenly accelerated (instead of slowing down as would be expected when traveling up an incline), picking up speed quickly. The car's response happened so quickly that I was unable to swerve to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I hit the car in front of me that was slowing down at the light which then subsequently hit several other vehicles that were in front of it that were also slowing/stopped for the light. The front airbag deployed as a result of the collision, knocking my glasses off. The vehicle was still continuing in forward motion after the collision….Traffic Crash Report states, “... [witness] went up to Unit 1 [Palisade], and the tires were still spinning…” As I was in shock after the collision, a bystander came up to the vehicle to turn it off and this is when the wheels/forward motion was completely stopped. This Palisade is equipped with Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) system. There was no warning given nor did the vehicle attempt to slow down during the event so I believe that this system failed to operate which contributed to the collision. I also believe that there was a failure with the engine/electrical system, ETC, and/or transmission that caused the system to suddenly accelerate while traveling uphill AFTER I removed my foot from the gas pedal. The vehicle was totaled by my insurance company. They did say that they were sending an engineer to review the Event Data Recorder. I have not seen any results from that nor do I have the vehicle in my possession as it was totaled.

On [XXX], while driving on the freeway, my 2020 Hyundai Palisade suddenly malfunctioned and went up in flames without warning. My young son was in the vehicle with me. Within moments, smoke and fire spread rapidly, forcing us to stop in traffic and escape before the fire fully engulfed the car. The entire vehicle became a total loss. This was a terrifying, life-threatening situation. My safety and my son’s safety were at extreme risk. If my other family members had been in the car, the outcome could have been catastrophic. The emotional trauma from this event is significant and continues to affect us. The incident was reported to the San Antonio Fire Department, who responded to the scene and documented the fire. Their reports confirm the vehicle fire: Incident Report #[XXX] and SAFD Case #[XXX]. After researching, I discovered that similar fires have been reported in Hyundai vehicles, raising concerns that this is part of a wider safety defect. Families should not have to fear their vehicle spontaneously igniting on the road. At the time of the fire, there were no warning lamps, error messages, or symptoms that suggested the vehicle was unsafe. The failure happened suddenly and without warning. The vehicle has not been inspected by Hyundai at this time, but it is available for inspection upon request. I am urging a full investigation into Hyundai’s design and safety practices, as this fire placed lives in immediate danger. This was not just a mechanical failure—it was a potentially fatal event that could have resulted in severe injury or loss of life.

When driving our brakes are spongy, downhill braking control gets disabled and tells us to control our speed even when going speed limit and below. Increased braking distance is needed, brakes are to the floor. When taken in for this concern we were met with, no issues noted on inspection. The brakes are getting worse and we feel as though this is a hazard for driving.

The speedometer occasionally would not work. Typically all other dash features would and I could get speed through digital reading. Today, none of the dash reading work. My speedometer has the dial at 155. The digital reads 0, gas shows E, miles to empty remained at 260 for the over 10 mile drive, ramps as well as coolant didn’t register and were at 0 and C. This is a hazard as it is a safety requirement to follow the speed limit when driving. This placed myself and others in danger. You are welcome to inspect this. When I have called the dealer previously for this concern, I was told that this would need to be covered by myself. A simple internet search shows that this is a more common issue than it should be.

1. The paint (all the way down to the metal), in more than 3 spots, has started peeling off. 2 spots are about 2 feet each, so about 4 feet in total of missing paint. The silver on my rims has also started to peel off. 2. Paint has peeled off in large chunks which is unsafe. 3. The paint has been seen by service technicians at Autonation, where I bought it from and service at a Hyundai dealership. 4. I have not filed a claim with insurance yet as it was recommended by both Autonation and the dealership that it is a manufacturer defect and needs to be fixed by them. They both stated I could pay to have it repainted but it would just start chipping again since it is a manufacturer defect. The primer on the entire car was not applied properly so the paint is not sticking, hence why the paint has peeled all the way down to the metal. Just before I bought it, the paint had peeled on the hood and Autonation repainted it back in October of 2024 and the paint has started peeling in the same spot as of February of 2025. The 2 spots that have 2 feet of paint gone happened all in one day back in Decmeber 2024. No wreck, no damage to the car, I just walked out after driving it and paint was gone. 5. Both Autonation and the dealership said they had never seen anything like this and this is a manufacturer defect 100%. No one wants to touch it since they have all claimed it will just peel again and I'll be right back in the shop a month later.

The vehicle, a 2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL, was located in a closed garage, unoccupied. Within 10 minutes of parking the car in the garage, it caught on fire, possibly originating on the front, driver's side. Due to this incident occurring inside a garage, there was damage to our home and a high risk of safety (including loss of life) to the home and its occupants. At this time, we are waiting for the insurance company to investigate the origin of the fire as there were no warning lights or any indication of risk. This fire happened very suddenly and unexpectedly and it is our sincere hope that a thorough investigation will prevent this from happening to other families.

The rear shocks on my vehicle were checked and the left rear is requiring replacement at approximately 33K miles. The leakage was gradual and after the ride became noticeably rough, I took it for diagnosis at Safford Brown in Fairfax, VA. A failed left rear shock was confirmed. I am replacing to make the ride bearable, and in researching the issue, learned of a TSB for my model year issued by Hyundai for rear shock problems. I will request that the dealer keep the bad components if needed for further action to be pursued with Hyundai. The service advisor also noted very uneven wear on three tires which I believe to be directly caused by the gradual failure of the shock. An alignment was recommended. I have been advised by the service advisor and technician that the right rear shock is intact and does not require replacement at this time.

I had just pulled into a (handicapped) parking space at my bank in Marana Az. as I prepared to stop with the brake still depressed, the car suddenly surged, with the tach going to 5000rpm. The vehicle jumped the sidewalk (with rear wheels making drag marks on the sidewalk. Vehicle shot up the slight rise , hit and demolished a concrete bench and some plants and was heading toward the main entrance when I shut the engine off with the ignition key. The car stopped less than 10 feet from the bank entrance. the car came close to going through the entrance shattering the glass doors and possibly injuring bank customers and employees. There was no warning, but this car has had 3 or 4 sudden engine surges before - about one every 1 1/2 years. Hyundai service has checked and denied any problems. On line queries indicate the surging problems are not uncommon. They happen without warning and result in serious injury and damage to people and property. Hyundai is stonewalling. Other drivers have similar events occur for sudden unintended acceleration (SUA) and suggest problems with the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) including throttle position sensors. Our Palisade has less than 40,000 miles on it and has been well maintained, but Hyundai people refuse to acknowledge any problems - my wife and I consider that this car is a potential death machine.

On Friday 6/28/24 I turned my vehicle on to drive to lunch. I put the vehicle in drive and started to move forward out of my parking spot when the following errors flashed on my dashboard in succession: "Check Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist System", "Check Lane Departure Warning (LDW) System", and "Check High Beam Assist System" and then the steering wheel locked while the vehicle was still moving forward. I put the vehicle in park, turned it off, turned it back on and there were no problems. On Saturday 6/29/24, the same series of events happened in the evening when turning the vehicle on from park. On Sunday 6/30/24 I turned the vehicle on in the morning and backed out of my driveway. When I put it in drive and started going down the road the same series of events happened again. This time, it did not resolved when I turned the vehicle off then back on, but happened 7-8 times in succession. The vehicle was not driven all day and when I turned it back on Sunday evening it seemed fine. I drove across town to meet a friend, put the vehicle in park to wait, then in drive (so it had been running for approx 30 minutes) and the issue happened again. On Monday 7/1/24 I had the vehicle towed to the dealership and the issue happened to the tow truck driver as he was getting the vehicle off of the truck. On Friday 7/5/24 I called the dealership and they have "verified my concern" but are not sure why it is happening. I am now waiting to hear back from them on this issue. I have read on an online forum that multiple people have had this same issue with the Palisade.

On February 2024, I took the SUV to Lynn's Hyundai for an issue with A front sensor or the braking system - The problem is when you're driving at times very often in the streets, the vehicle will automatically cause the brake sensor to go off the dashboard with light up and the brakes will engage causing the vehicle to jerk hard and or stop at times and I have a huge concern that this may cause a serious accident. I was told by Hyundai service department, that perhaps were driving to close to other vehicles to cause this, but it happened several times when there are no vehicles or objects present. Apparently they had no interest in resolving this matter, they claim that the system test showed no duplication of said issue, vehicle was taken on a road test and they found no issues, The recall were all fixed, and I was called to pick up vehicle. I drove a few and the braking started again, so I pulled over and started recording to see if happens again and I was able to catch some of this problem on video. This has caused my husband to lose control of the vehicle causing him to hit a cone on the road. Your immediate help with this matter would be greatly appreciate.

[XXX] - I was turning left from a stop and my steering wheel abruptly stopped (wouldn't turn) and made a very loud noise. It released when I tried again. Didn't happen again for a couple weeks. This went on and on (seldom reoccurring). then it happened like 3 times in two days and I got concerned. November 2023 - I called the tire place because I had just had tire replaced right before this started. The mechanic was able to recreate it and told me it was an electric rack and pinion malfunction and part is about $1,600 and labor about $450. I told him I would call Hyundai since it should be under warranty. Hyundai told me to bring it in. I brought it in on [XXX]. They said they couldn't recreate it and had me pick it up. [XXX] - I drove to San Diego for work. Noise still happening more common now and steering stops. Now having other issues too (with malfunction of emergency braking system - reported separately). [XXX] - Took car back to Hyundai. They said they can't recreate either issue and sent me home with no fix again. [XXX] - Found the exact same issue reported on the Hyundai Forum online. It stated exactly how to recreate (said it occurs when turning left when the eco mode has turned your car off and it starts up again when taking foot off gas and turning left concurrently). I called JJ (manager at Hyundai) back. I emailed him the forum emails and told him that I was able to recreate with this. He told me to bring it back in [XXX] - Dropped car off at Hyundai again. Got call that they can't recreate again and want me to come pick up car. Told him I was concerned for safety (16 year old son now driving). Transferred me to manager and left message. [XXX] - Driving from San Diego to Ventura County (home), my dash flashed something to the effect of "Emergency Braking System Malfunction" as my brakes were engaged while driving 65-70 miles an hour (no vehicles close in front of me or on either side). This was VERY scary and could have caused an accident if there had been vehicles closer. Usually when this system j=kicks in you get a Collision alert alarm, then braking initiates. There was no collision alert either. [XXX] - Took vehicle in and Hyundai said they could not recreate and had me take vehicle home [XXX] - Same thing happened on my way home from camping (emergency braking malfunction and brakes engaged while no vehicles around and nothing in front of me). This time the warning light (Triangle with "!" in middle and a number 1 lit up on dash and stayed on until I turned car off (I have a photo). [XXX] - Found this issue reported by multiple people on Hyundai online forum (emailed to manager at Alexander Hyundai). [XXX] - Took vehicle back in. Manager said he would check cameras as he believes this has happened before and they had to replace cameras. [XXX] - Dealership called and said can't recreate and want me to pick up car. So there I was, stopped at a red light, waiting for traffic to clear and about to turn right. Traffic clears. I step on the gas. Nothing. I look at my dash and there are no signs of life. No warning lights, no bells or dings. The vehicle is just dead. I’m pushing the start button, pushing gears, tried to turn on my hazard lights. Nothing. As expected, the symphony of horns from vehicles behind me started. So I pull the lever from inside to pop the hood, open my door, and exit the vehicle. I get the hood up and first thing I go for is the battery. I reach for the battery cable and it’s loose. Twist it a bit and viola! Car starts up! But then I realize the car is rolling backwards! Ahh! So I run and jump into the moving car and put my foot on the brake and stop it. There were two saving graces here: 1. The road I was stopped on was mostly flat. 2. When I exited the vehicle I left the door open. Nobody was hurt. The vehicle didn’t hit anything. But had there been in incline on the road, I may not have been able to catch up with the vehicle and stop it. And had I closed the door, it probably would have been locked when it restarted and I would not have been able to get in. IF THE BATTERY IS DEAD (or in my case, a battery cable comes loose) THERE IS NO WAY TO CHANGE GEARS! Should this happen again while I’m alone in the vehicle, I’d have to wait, a prisoner in my car, until some good citizen came along and ask them to open the hood and jiggle the battery cable. Not as dangerous, but should the vehicle be parked in a single garage and then the battery go dead (for whatever reason) one wouldn’t be able to put the vehicle in neutral and push it out of the garage to get it jumped off from another vehicle. HOW DO YOU PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK with a total loss of electrical?

I have a 2020 Palisade Limited and I experienced trying to open my tail gate all three ways: with the key, the button inside vehicle and the auto tailgate release by standing near the rear with the key and all failed to open the tailgate. I had my husband hold the button inside while I forcefully pushed the tailgate from the inside and finally it popped open. Then I had an issue with closing it went part way down and stopped. I had to manually force the tailgate shut. I took it to the dealer and after inspection he said it was covered under warranty for 5 years or 60,000 miles as long as it had not been tampered with. The hydraulic lift on the passenger side had split exposing part of the coil inside. He ordered a new one on 4/13/23 and it will be installed the following week. The dealer said the never had this issue so I told him that I saw plenty of complaints on the internet before going to the dealer. I will say that I absolutely love my Palisade Limited.

Two cracks to windshield that started spontaneously from the upper and lower edges of windshield when vehicle was only a few months old. Both cracks immediately lengthened 2.5 to 3 feet within 15 minutes of crack starting. Multiple small chips over past 2 years that have not occurred in our other vehicles that are driven similar routes and distances. It is evident that there is a problem as so many other owners have complained of the same issue . With the ease in which these windshields chip and crack , it is very concerning for safety in that it would likely provide little protection in a crash and it likely does not meet safety standards. Based on the major cracks starting spontaneously on the edges, it could be a problem with the frame/structure as well as lack of strength in the glass. Steps should be taken to correct this issue before serious injuries or fatalities occur.

This issue was first noticed on December 13th, 2021, and has been an ongoing frustration. I am constantly getting this error: "Parking Sensor Error or Blockage." Please take a look at the attached picture as a reference. On February 8th, 2022, I brought my Hyundai Palisade to the dealer's service department for them to find out what may be wrong. Their technician notes: "Scan all modules for codes with GDS. No DTC in any module. Drove vehicle testing all front and rear sensors, and all are working as designed." Please see attached PDF of the service department's official printout. But I have had the same repeating issue since, most recently, last week. Something must be wrong with these technicians. Last year I had the front passenger window whistling sound issue, and technicians said after driving the Palisade that nothing was wrong with it and everything was working as designed. Time after, Hyundai issued a recall because of this issue! I don't trust the service department, and driving this car with a faulty sensor is a concern. Please advise, as the warranty period might be almost over, and I don't know what else to try. We barely use this car; while not in use, it's parked inside a garage and, when used, is for road trips.

Dealers should not be able to fight things like this as they avoiusly know thers issues but they won't honor it. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated, otherwise I may have to get lawyers involved. Thank you for you time.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
1 complaint
I approached the intersection slowly and stopped completely to turn right. There were a couple of vehicles in front of mine. I pushed the 'Auto Hold' button while waiting on the Red light. A second later, I felt the car moving on its own and stepped on the brakes. The car did not stop and went forward and crashed into the vehicle in front of me. My vehicle did not stop after the initial collision and accelerated more on its own and went forward. I pushed the 'Park' button to stop the car but it did not work and the vehicle kept moving forward fast and hit another car. It still kept moving fast until it hit other things. The car stopped after it went through a wire fence and hit a tree. The brake did not work at all. The car never stopped once it started moving on its own. Forward collision warning never came when it was approaching the first vehicle in front of mine on its own. The 'check engine' light was on for 3 days and disappeared on its own about 1 month prior to the accident. I tried to take it to the service center immediately but the earliest appointment I could get was in June. The service adviser at Hyundai service said there was nothing that they can do since the warning light was not on when we asked for a service check on 6/11/22.

SUSPENSION,TIRES
1 complaint
The contact owns a 2020 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the tires were making a grinding sound. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to several dealers. The first dealer diagnosed the failure with tire cupping. The second dealer diagnosed the failure and determined that the rear wheel bearings needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 16,000. This car has become a dangerous noisy vehicle in the rain (due to tire cupping) and a real noisy vehicle during non-rainy operating days. The contact has stated that although the vehicle has a lifetime alignment, the issue still persisted and they no longer have the vehicle.

Car was purchased new in May of 2020 and all systems worked as expected. After approx 3 months and 2000 miles the rear backup camera began to pixilate and then failed resulting in a blue screen. Went to a different dealer and they advised replacement of the camera. Returned vehicle to another dealer and they replaced the camera and it worked for about a month then pixilated and failed again. Took the car to a different dealer who checked the connections and cable and advised that the camera needed replacement again. This will be 4 Hyundai dealers that have looked at the car and camera now has a blue screen.

JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE YESTERDAY. TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE TWO DAYS EARLIER AND NOTICED VERY STRONG INTERIOR ODOR, SUCH A CARPET CLEANER OR DISINFECTANT, WHICH WE ASSUMED WAS FROM DEALERSHIP TRYING TO CLEAN, BUT OTHER CARS WE TEST DROVE DID NOT HAVE THIS SMELL. BOTH MY US AND AND I CAME HOME THAT AFTERNOON WITH A STRONG HEADACHE THAT LASTED ALL NIGHT. WE ASSUMED IT WAS FROM STRESS AND CAR SHOPPING'S. WE STILL DECIDED TO PURCHASE THE CAR, ASSUMING IT WAS STILL JUST A DISINFECTANT AND WOULD GO AWAY. BROUGHT HOME, OPENED ALL DOORS AND WINDOWS AND BACK HATCH TO AIR OUT. SPRAYED WITH NATURAL AIR FRESHENER ALL OVER CARPETS AND FLOORS. AFTER ONE NIGHT OF SITTING CLOSED INSIDE THE GARAGE, OPENED UP THE DOORS TO FIND THE SMELL IS GETTING STRONGER AND MORE INTENSE. OPENED THE WINDOWS TO LET AIR OUT AND SPRAYED CARPETS AGAIN. TODAY, AN ARTICLE WAS RELEASED THAT THOUSANDS OF OTHER HYUNDAI PALISADE OWNERS ARE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE, AND IS TIED TO THE HIGHER END MODELS AND NAPPA LEATHER SEAT, WHICH WE HAVE. WE NOW HAVE LEARNED THAT HYUNDAI HAS BEEN MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND ARE NOT RESPONDING. WE ARE SAD TO FIND OUT THAT OUR 1 DAY OLD CAR (TO US) HAS SUCH A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM THAT WE WERE NOT AWARE OF AND CANNOT STAND. WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE MATERIALS AND PRODUCTS USED TO BUILD THIS HIGH END VEHICLE AND IT'S AFFECTS ON OUR HEALTH. I AM VERY SENSITIVE TO SMELL AMD HAVE COMPLAINED OF THIS AWFUL SCENT SINCE WE FIRST SAT IN THE CAR. NOW THAT WE KNOW THIS MAY NOT BE SOMETHING THAT WILL JUST AIR OUT AND MAY BE AN INHERENT PROBLEM DIRECTLY FROM HYUNDAI, WE WANT ACTION. THIS MAY BE THE REAL REASON WHY THE PREVIOUS OWNER TURNED IT IN. IT IS AWFUL AND I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE SITTING MYSELF OR MY FAMILY IN OUR NEWLY PURCHASED VEHICLE. WE FEEL HYUNDAI SHOULD REPLACE OR REPAIR THIS PROBLEM WITH A RECALL!

WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 290 WEST TO FREDICKSBURG, TEXAS ON APRIL 2,2021, SPEED LIMIT VARIES FROM 50-60 MPH, THE VEHICLE JUST STOPPED, ALL SYSTEMS WERE OUT, MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN SAID "TAKE TO SERVICE, WHEN CONVENIENT". IT WAS VERY SCARY AS THE VEHICLES FROM BEHIND WERE HONKING AND I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE. IT COULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT WITH FATALITIES.

MY VEHICLE HAS WHAT APPEARS TO BE A MAJOR ALIGNMENT ISSUE. WHEN DRIVING ON ALMOST ANY STRAIGHT STRETCH OF ROAD THE VEHICLE PULLS/VEERS TO THE RIGHT. DEALER SAYS THIS IS AS DESIGNED FROM HYUNDAI AND THAT THEY HAVE CHECKED "EVERYTHING". I AM BAFFLED THAT ANY CAR CAN BE "DESIGNED" TO NOT DRIVE STRAIGHT. THEY CLAIM ALL HYUNDAI VEHICLES ARE "DESIGNED" TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. ONE THE TEST DRIVE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER, DRIVING 50 - 60 MPH, MY VEHICLE DRIFTED 1 AND A HALF LANES TO THE RIGHT ON ITS OWN. UNDER ACCELERATION IT VEERED 3 LANES TO THE RIGHT. THIS WAS IN A MATTER OF 6 OR 7 SECONDS. THIS HAPPENS ON ALMOST ALL ROADS AND INTERSTATES, NOT JUST SOME. THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING TO REPAIR AND THIS IS "NORMAL" AND TO TAKE IT UP WITH THE MANUFACTURER. I CAN PROVIDE VIDEO OF THE ISSUE.

X2 THE AUTOMATED EMERGENCY BRAKING HAS ACTIVATED FOR NO REASON. 1ST TIME DURING A RAIN EVENT THE AUDIBLE ALARM, HEAD-UP DISPLAY AND AUTOMATED EMERGENCY BRAKING ENGAGED. DURING THIS EVENT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD NOT TURN ON, THEY WERE ON AUTOMATIC, I SWITCHED TO MANUAL THEY STILL WOULD NOT WORK. SHORTLY AFTER IT STOPPED RACING THEY BEGAN TO WORK AGAIN. THE SECOND TIME THE EMERGENCY AUTOMATED BRAKING ENGAGED I WAS ON I-70 NEAR SPFLD. OHIO. TRAFFIC WAS MOVING FAST 65-70 MPH, I WAS IN LEFT LANE, HAD A NEARER WALL TO MY LEFT, SEMI TO RIGHT, PASSENGER CAR TO THE FRONT AND SEMI TO MY REAR, THE WEATHER WAS SUNNY OVERALL BEAUTIFUL DAY. WHEN IT ENGAGED ONCE AGAIN ABRUPTLY BRAKED (SAME ALARMS ENGAGED). THIS TIME WITH THE SEMI TO MY REAR IT SCARED ME SO BAD I FELT AS IF I WAS GOING TO GET RAN OVER BY THE SEMI. IN BOTH CASES THE BREAKING WAS ABRUPT AND QUITE AGGRESSIVE, BOTH EVENTS LASTED VERY BRIEFLY 1-3 SECONDS ON THE HIGHWAY INCIDENT I DID FEEL THE BACK IN WIGGLE IT DID NOT BREAK LOSE YOU COULD JUST FILL IT KIND OF HARD SWAY LEFT TO RIGHT OR RIGHT TO LEFT CANNOT REMEMBER THAT EXACTLY. IT CURRENTLY IS IN THE SHOP FOR THE REASONS REPORTED ABOVE AND SERVICING. THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE INCIDENTS.

VIBRATION AT SPEEDS OF 64/65MPH AND UP. NOT SURE IF DRIVESHAFT OR TRANSMISSION. HYUNDAI HAS ISSUED A TSB BUT WILL NOT HONOR IT. I HAVE ASKED 2X FOR DEALER SERVICE DEPT. TO EVALUATE THIS PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY DO NOT HAVE TO HONOR THIS TSB. I HAVE SEEN ON FORUMS OTHERS ARE HAVING SAME PROBLEM WITH CARS MADE IN DECEMBER 2019. IT IS PAINFUL TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY AND I DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS THE DRIVESHAFT, WILL IT BREAK? WILL THE TRANSMISSION FAIL? THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR PURCHASED NEW AND IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY AND I CANNOT GET HYUNDAI TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE SENT EMAILS SAYING TOUGH LUCK. THIS IS ANYTIME YOU ARE DRIVING ON INTERSTATES OR HIGHWAYS WITH SPEED LIMITS OF 70MPH..AT AROUND 64/65 CAR STEERING WHEEL, SEAT, FLOOR VIBRATES UNLESS YOU GO BELOW 63MPH. HAPPENS EVERY TIME. FIRST TIME WAS DRIVING HOME FROM DEALER ON HIGHWAY--BEEN REACHING OUT TO HYUNDAI USA SINCE JULY BEEN TO DEALER IN JULY, AUGUST...BUT ALWAYS TOLD APPOINTMENT WILL BE TWO WEEKS TO 6 WEEKS AWAY.

WINDSHIELD WILL CRACK WHEN BARELY HIT WITH ROCKS ON ROAD. I'VE HAD VEHICLE LESS THAN 10 MONTHS AND 1ST CRACK HAPPENED 3WEEKS AFTER I GOT VEHICLE. AFTER 2 ND CRACK, 1 MONTH LATER, I TRIED TO GET IT FILLED BUT IT STARTED TO RUN SO HE HAD TO STOP. SINCE THEN, I'VE GOTTEN 2 MORE CHIPS. THE PLACE I TRIED TO HAVE FILLED HAS NOW RAN COMPLETELY ACROSS THE CENTER OF MY SHIELD, ABOUT 2 FEET!!!! I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO REPLACE ENTIRE SHIELD. I'VE HAD 2 GLASS REPAIR SHOPS SAY THEY WON'T TOUCH PALISADE SHIELDS BC THE GLASS RUNS AND BREAKS EASILY. I BELIEVE IT TO BE DEFECTIVE!!!!! I'VE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A SHIELD IN 30 YEARS OF DRIVING AND HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE CRACK THIS EASILY. SOMETHING IS WRONG. *TR

1) FIRST ISSUE WAS A CRACKED WINDSHIELD WITHIN THE FIRST 500 MILES. DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, NO FOREIGN OBJECT, SUDDENLY A CRACK STARTED TO FORM. 2) SECOND ISSUE IS A BLIND SPOT WARNING SYSTEM ALERT WHEN NO CARS ARE PRESENT. 3) THIRD ISSUE IS AUTOMATIC WIPER THAT SUDDENLY COME ON WHEN NO RAIN OR DEBRIS ARE PRESENT. 4) FOURTH ISSUE, BUT FAR FROM THE LAST, IS THE ONGOING WIND NOISE PROBLEM THAT HYUNDAI CAN’T SEEM TO SOLVE. IT IS SO LOUD ON THE HIGHWAY THAT THE DRONE IS LOUDER THAN THE RADIO. I’VE MEASURED THIS AS HIGH AS 86DB.

TWO ISSUES: 1. WARNING INDICATOR COMES ON ALONG WITH A WARNING THAT READS "CHECK BLIND-SPOT COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM." THESE WARNING COME ON AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES, AND COME ON EVEN WHEN NO OTHER VEHICLES ARE AROUND OR IN BLIND-SPOT. SEEMS TO BE A FAULTY SENSOR. AT TIME OF WRITING THIS, VEHICLE ONLY HAS ABOUT 500 (FIVE HUNDRED) MILES. 2. LOUD WHISTLE/WIND NOISE FROM COMING IN FROM DRIVER SIDE DOOR. OCCURS WHEN TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 50+ MPH. SEEMS LIKE THE DOOR IS NOT SEALED PROPERLY, EVEN THOUGH IT IS SHUT ALL THE WAY. LOUD NOISE COULD CAUSE DRIVER TO BE UNABLE TO HEAR EMERGENCY SIRENS, WHICH COULD BE FATAL OR CAUSE TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS. WITH BOTH ISSUES THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAY. THE WARNING INDICATOR WITH THE BLIND SPOT WARNING WILL EVEN STAY ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PULLED INTO A LOT, COMES TO A STOP, PLACED IN PARK, AND WITH NO ONE AROUND.

'CHECK BLIND SPOT COLLISON WARNING SYSTEM' ERROR MESSAGE APPEARS EVERY TRIP AFTER 10-15 MINUTES. MY PALISADE ALSO STEERS TOWARD THE CENTER LANE AND DOES NOT STAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE AS INTENDED. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE BEING SO CLOSE TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AND IT CAUSES ARM FATIGUE TO KEEP STEERING AWAY FROM THE CENTER. FINALLY, THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF WIND NOISE COMING THROUGH THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW/DOOR AS I DRIVE AT MEDIUM TO HIGH SPEEDS.

WE PURCHASED OUR 2020 HYUNDAI PALISADE LIMITED SIX WEEKS AGO. CURRENTLY HAS 3000 MILES. THE BLIND SPOT COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM (BSCW) HAS A MALFUNCTION AND STOPS WORKING AFTER DRIVING A FEW MILES ON BOTH HIGHWAY AND CITY/COUNTRY ROADS. THERE ARE NO CARS OR TREES/OBSTACLES AROUND THE CAR WHEN IT DEACTIVATES. RESTARTING THE CAR RESETS THE BSCW SYSTEM, BUT IT MALFUNCTIONS AGAIN IN A FEW MILES. WHEN THE SYSTEM IS DEACTIVATED, WE CANNOT TURN OFF BLIND SPOT ACTIVE ASSIST--IT GIVES A CONTROLLER ERROR. WE TRIED SHUTTING OFF THE BSCW SYSTEM INDICATOR IN THE HEADS-UP DISPLAY. THAT DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM

LESS THAN 2 MONTHS INTO A BRAND NEW VEHICLE, THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED DURING A RAINSTORM ON THE HIGHWAY ALONG THE LINE OF THE WIPERS. NOTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD OTHER THAN RAIN. THE DEALER IS MAKING US PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR RECALIBRATION AND TINTING, DESPITE THE FACT WE HAVE INSURANCE. SAFELITE IS REPLACING THE WINDSHIELD. IT TOOK 3 WEEKS TO GET THE WINDSHIELD. ALSO, THE STEERING MOTOR HAD TO BE REPLACED IN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS.
