I HAVE A 2007 MAZDA CX7, MY VEHICLE HAS 71,000 MILES I HAVE NOTICED A RATTLING NOISE FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS. I VISIT THREE MECHANICS AND ALL THREE MECHANICS ARE TELLING ME IT'S THE VVT TIMING CHAIN. THE COST THE REPAIR MY VEHICLE IS $3,000 TO $4,000 DOLLARS. I CONTACT THE MAZDA DEALER AND BECAUSE I HAVE NO WARRANTY I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. SO I BEGIN TO DO MY RESEARCH ONLINE. I REALIZED THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHER MAZDA CX7 OWNERS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AS I. WHAT A COINCIDENCE MAZDA HAS DISCONTINUED MANUFACTURING THE MAZDA CX7. THIS IS A MANUFACTURE ISSUE AND MAZDA NEEDS TO OWN UP FOR IT. HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ARE LOSING THEIR VEHICLES DUE TO THIS VVT TIMING CHAIN ISSUE AND MAZDA NEEDS TO MAKE THIS A RE-CALL. VEHICLE STALLED IN SAMS CLUB PARKING LOT. IT DID RESTART BUT STARTED MAKING A RUBBING OR GRINDING NOISE. TURNS OUT THE AC COMPRESSOR LOCKED UP. ACCORDING TO INTERNET POSTINGS IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH 2007/2008 MODELS. APPARENTLY IT WAS ADDRESSED FOR 2009 MODEL. I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH IN THE FREEWAY SUDDENLY I SMELLED BURN RUBBER INSIDE THE CABIN AND I HEARD A LOUD NOISE CAME FROM THE ENGINE, AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE SERPENTINE BELT WAS BROKE. ENGINE VVT SOLENOID SEIZED CAUSING COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60MPH. THE DEALER IS ASKING $10,730 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE CAR HAS 76,000 MILES.

JUNE 2014, I WAS DRIVING VEHICLE OUT OF TOWN ON VACATION AND IT SUDDENLY BEGAN RUNNING ROUGH LIKE THE PISTONS WERE MISFIRING. MILEAGE WAS 69,700. I PULLED INTO A DEALERSHIP (1 MILE AWAY), DROPPED THE KEYS, AND CALLED TO EXPLAIN IN THE MORNING. LATER, THEY SAID THEY DROVE THE CAR AROUND THE LOT AND THE ENGINE LOCKED UP. THEY TOOK NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR MAKING IT WORSE AND CHARGED ME FOR CONFIRMING THE LOSS OF COMPRESSION IN THE PISTONS. WE REPLACED THE ENGINE AT GREAT EXPENSE AND TO A POOR RESULT. I FOUND THIS 2007 MODEL HAD A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH THE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING (VVT) CAUSING THE TIMING CHAIN TO COME OUT OF ADJUSTMENT AND DESTROY THE ENGINE. INSTEAD OF ISSUING A RECALL AND FIXING IT, MAZDA OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 6 YEARS-60,000 MILES. THIS IS ABOUT THE AVERAGE POINT OF FAILURE, MEANING HALF THE PEOPLE ARE NOT COVERED. A FEATURE OF THE TURBO CHARGER IS MAKING THE ENGINE RUN HOT, BURNING THE OIL, SO PEOPLE WERE OFTEN DENIED BECAUSE THE OIL "HAD NOT BEEN CHANGED." INTERESTINGLY, MAZDA SAID THE TIMING CHAIN HAD BEEN REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY WITH A PREVIOUS OWNER. THAT DATE AND LOCATION COINCIDED WITH A DATE OF SERVICE SHOWN ON CARFAX FOR TYPICAL MAINTENANCE ONLY. THAT DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD NOT POSSIBLY DO ANY WORK WITHOUT IT SHOWING ON CARFAX. I WONDER WHO MAZDA PAID FOR THE WARRANTY CLAIM... I WANT NHTSA TO COMPEL MAZDA TO COMPENSATE OWNERS WHO EXPERIENCED ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO THIS DOCUMENTED DESIGN FLAW.

THE MOTOR STARTED RUNNING HOT AND LOSING POWER AND I SHUT IT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A GARAGE AND WAS SCANNED ON COMPUTER AND ONLY SHOWED CODE FOR STEERING WHEEL ANGLE. THE MECHANIC PULLED THE COILS AND PLUGS AND CHECKED FOR SPARK AND INSTALLED NEW PLUGS AND ALL COILS OPERATED NORMALLY. COMPRESSION WAS CHECKED AND WAS LOW IN ALL CYLINDERS AROUND 70-80 PSI. PLUGS AND COILS WERE REINSTALLED AND INTERCOOLER PUT BACK ON. CAR IS IN A NO START CONDITION, CAR WAS TAKEN TO CLOSEST MAZDA DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT FIX PROBLEM SINCE SOMEONE HAD BEEN IN THE MOTOR. THE MECHANIC CALLED THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND TOLD THEM EXACTLY WHAT HAD BEEN DONE AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT MAKE IT RIGHT. THE CAR HAS 115000 MILES AND HAS NUMEROUS RECALLS FOR THE VVT TIMING CHAIN, TURBO, ENGINE, AND THEY HAVE TSB'S FOR THESE ISSUES AND STILL PLAY DUMB. I WANT MY MOTOR FIXED BY MAZDA AT MAZDA'S EXPENSE SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS AND ISSUES WITH THESE VEHICLES AND MAZDA KNOWS ABOUT IT AND STILL DOESN'T WANT TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT.

BOUGHT MY MAZDA CX-7 2007 BRAND NEW. AC BROKE, ARM JOINT HAS BE CHANGE, BOTH ROLLER CHANGED MORE THEN TWO TIMES. ENGINE IS MAKING NOISE. DEALER TOLD US THAT IT'S THE TIMING CHAIN WHICH IS THE ENGINE NOW. I CALLED MAZDA FOR AN ENGINE AND IT'S ABOUT $6,291 FOR JUST THE ENGINE NOT EVEN INCLUDED THE LABOR. HAD A VERY BAD EXPLERIENCE WITH MAZDA.

MAZDA'S L-SERIES ENGINES ARE EARNING A REPUTATION FOR VARIABLE VALE TIMING (VVT) DEFECTS THAT CAN CAUSE OIL LEAKS, EXCESSIVE SMOKE OUT OF THE TAILPIPE, LOOSE TIMING CHAINS, AND CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. MAZDA HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE VVT PROBLEMS IN A 'SPECIAL SERVICE PROGRAM' BUT, ACCORDING TO OWNERS, HAS DENIED WARRANTY COVERAGE IN SOME CASES. BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS BEYOND THE EXTENDED PERIOD MAZDA DOES NOT FEEL THEY HAVE ANY RESPONSIBILITY TO COMPENSATE FOR THIS REPAIR. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED THAT THIS COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY CREATING A DANGEROUS OR DEADLY CONDITION.

BEFORE I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE I HAD TAKEN THE CAR IN TO STAR MAZDA AN AUTHORIZED DEALER IN GLENDALE TWICE FOR THE AIRBAG LIGHT WARNING SIGN WHICH HAD BEEN LIT UP ON THE DASHBOARD. TWICE STAR MAZDA CHARGED ME $140.00 FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM WITH THE LIGHT. AFTER I RECEIVED THE NOTICE I TOOK THE CAR IN AND AFTER TWO HOURS THEY INDICATED THAT THEY REPLACE THE PARTS NEEDED AND IT IS A SIMPLE RECALL AND ITS NOT SO IMPORTANT. THE AIRBAG MALFUNCTION LIGHT IS STILL LIT ON THE DASHBOARD AND MY REGULAR MECHANIC STATED THAT THE AIRBAG MIGHT NOT FUNCTION ON MY CAR SINCE THE MALFUNCTION LIGHT IS LIT. PLEASE ADVISE. I'VE ALREADY MAKE THE AIRBAG REPLACEMENT IN 16-MARCH-2018 BUT I'M STILL RECEIVING THE NOTIFICATIONS. THERE'S BEEN 1 YEAR AND A HALF SINCE THEN AND GOT LIKE A HUNDRED OF NOTIFICATIONS. MAZDA WILL NOT COMPLETE THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL ON OUR VEHICLE NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES THEY ARE CONTACTED. WE HAVE MADE AT LEAST 6 ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT THEM, I THINK MORE, FOR NEARLY A YEAR. IN NOVEMBER OF 2012 MY FAMILY WAS DRIVING HOME FROM SEATTLE, WA TO SAN DIEGO, CA. WHEN WE WERE DRIVING WE SMELLED BURNING RUBBER SO PULLED OVER TO SEE IF WE COULD SEE SOMETHING WRONG UNDER THE HOOD. SINCE IT WAS 10PM AND DARK OUTSIDE WE COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING AND DECIDED TO FIND THE NEAREST HOTEL TO STAY AT UNTIL WE COULD TAKE IT TO A SHOP. AFTER WE STARTED DRIVING WE SAW THERE WAS A FREEWAY EXIT 1/2 A MILE AWAY SO MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING REALLY SLOW(ABOUT 35MPH) HOPING WE COULD MAKE IT WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS A HUGE JERKING MOTION THAT FELT LIKE WE RAN INTO SOMETHING EVEN THOUGH WE DIDN'T. WE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY AND GOT A TOW TRUCK. IT ENDED UP BEING THE AC COMPRESSOR AND SERPENTINE BELT THAT NEEDED REPLACED, ALTHOUGH MAZDA WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AS THEY STATED IN THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT IT HAD "DEFECT IN WORKMANSHIP OR MATERIALS," THE WARRANTY WAS ONLY EXTENDED TO 5 YEARS OR 60,000 MILES. MY MAZDA WAS 6 YEARS OLD AND HAD ONLY 48,000 MILES BUT WASN'T COVERED BECAUSE IT WAS A YEAR PASSED THE WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THE MILES WERE STILL UNDER. WE ENDED UP PAYING $2,000.00 TO FIX IT AS WELL AS ANOTHER $300.00 TO STAY IN A MOTEL FOR 5 DAYS. EVER SINCE THE DAY THAT THE CAR BROKE AND HAD THE HUGE JERKING MOVEMENT, BY BACK HAS HURT EVERYDAY SINCE THEN. IT ESPECIALLY DIDN'T HELP THAT I WAS ALMOST 5 MONTHS PREGNANT AND ALTHOUGH NOTHING HAPPENED TO THE BABY, I'M HOPING THERE WAS NO PERMANENT DAMAGE TO MY BACK SINCE I'VE NEVER HAD BACK PAIN OR PROBLEMS SINCE BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. I OWN A 2007 MAZDA CX-7, WHICH I PURCHASED IN NOV. 2006, BRAND NEW. OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS, I HAVE HEARD A TAPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE. TWICE IN THE PAST 9 MONTHS, THE VEHICLE LOST COMPLETE POWER. I ASKED MAZDA TO CHECK THE VEHICLE AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS COMMON, NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. IN JANUARY OF 2012, I RECEIVED A SAFETY NOTICE FROM MAZDA IN REGARDS TO A POSSIBLE DEFECT PART, V.V.T. COMPONENT AND A LOOSE TIMING CHAIN. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP, WHO ADVISED ME THAT MY VEHICLE CONTAINED THIS DEFECTIVE PART, BUT STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO REPAIR THE DEFECTIVE COMPONENT DUE TO THE LACK OF RECEIPTS FOR OIL CHANGES AND OTHER MAINTENANCE RECORDS. THE REASON FOR THE LACK OF RECEIPTS IS BECAUSE MY BROTHER-IN-LAW, WHO IS A MECHANIC, PERFORMED THE OIL CHANGES AND OTHER MAINTENANCE WORK TO THE VEHICLE. I ASKED MAZDA IF THE DEFECTIVE PART COULD BE HAZARDOUS AND THEY ADVISED ME IT WAS NOT HARZARDOUS OR DANGEROUS. APPROX. 3 WEEKS AGO, MY WIFE ORDERED THE NECESSARY PARTS AND PAID FOR THEM IN FULL. AFTER 3 WEEKS, I WAS ADVISED THAT THE PARTS OR NOT AVAILABLE. AFTER READING NUMEROUS WEBSITES AND COMPLAINTS FROM CX-7 OWNERS, THIS IS HAPPENING ACROSS THE COUNTRY. I FURTHER READ THAT IF THE V.V.T. COMPONENT FAILS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING OPERATED, THE ENGINE WILL IMMEDIATELY CEASE, POSSIBLY CAUSING THE OPERATOR THE INABILITY TO SAFELY MANVEUR THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROADWAY. OUR 2007 MAZDA CX7 SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND I WAS FORCED TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN THE CENTER MEDIAN OF THE HIGHWAY, AS I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE TO THE RIGHT DUE TO OTHER TRAFFIC. VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BROKEN PIN ON THE VARIABLE VALVE TIME ACTUATOR (VVT). THERE WAS NO PRIOR INDICATION OF A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE (NO WARNING LIGHTS) PRIOR TO THE ENGINE STOPPING. DEALERSHIP HAS INDICATED THAT COMPLETE ENGINE REPLACEMENT IS RECOMMENDED BY MAZDA. CURRENTLY THE VEHICLE IS AWAITING ARRIVAL OF AN ADJUSTER FROM EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY TO SEE IF REPAIRS/REPLACEMENT WILL BE COVERED. ADDITIONAL ONLINE RESEARCH HAS INDICATED THAT THIS IS A WELL-DOCUMENT AND FREQUENTLY OCCURRING PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL OF VEHICLE, YET MANUFACTURER HAS NEGLECTED TO INITIATE A FULL RECALL. RATHER THEY ISSUED A "SERVICE BULLETIN" (#01-002/08) THAT ADDRESSES A VVT NOISE WHEN STARTING ENGINE. BULLETIN STATES "SOME VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT A LOUD TICKING NOISE FROM THE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING. (VVT) THIS IS CAUSED BY THE LOCK PIN OF THE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR NOT FULLY ENGAGING. HEAT TREATMENT HAS NOW BEEN ADDED AROUND THE HOLE OF THE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ROTOR LOCK TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING." IT IS BELIEVED THAT HAD MY VEHICLE EXHIBITED ANY SYMPTOMS, I COULD HAVE HAD THE SERVICE BULLETIN REPAIRS MADE, AND THE ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO THE BROKEN PIN WOULD HAVE MOST LIKELY BEEN AVOIDED. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL, AND NOT ADDRESSED BY A SERVICE BULLETIN. THERE IS STRONG EVIDENCE, AS DISCOVERED VIA THE INTERNET, THAT MULTIPLE CX7 VEHICLES HAVE HAD THIS EXACT SAME TYPE OF FAILURE WHERE THE VEHICLE HAS SUDDENLY STOPPED RUNNING WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WAS RETURNING TO CALIFORNIA FROM ARIZONA WHEN CAR STARTED MAKING AN AWFUL NOISE. I SUSPECTED IT WAS THE A/C COMPRESSOR AS I HAD READ ABOUT THEIR FAILURES ONLINE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE TURBOCHARGER AND VVT & TIMING CHAIN FOR A TOTAL OF $4,200. I BEGIN TO PERFORM RESEARCH ONLINE ON THESE ISSUES AND FOUND FORUMS WHERE HUNDREDS OF MAZDA OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR VEHICLE. UNBEKNOWNST TO ME, MAZDA SENT A LETTER TO OWNERS WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM FOR BOTH OF THESE ISSUES. THE WARRANTY PERIOD IS 70,000MI OR 7 YEARS. MY VEHICLE IS 75,000 AND ONE MOTHER PAST THE 7 YR TIME PERIOD. MY CAR MAKES A RATTLING NOISE AT START UP. AFTER READING THE HORROR STORY'S ONLINE ABOUT THIS CAR VVTA GOING OUT, OR THE AC COMPRESSOR GOING OUT AND MESSING UP THE ENGINE I TOOK IT TOO THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH YEAR MAKE AND MODEL. SO I TALK TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO HAS EXPERIENCE WITH MAZDAS AND HAS FIXED THIS SAME PROBLEM NUMEROUS TIMES ON THIS VEHICLE. HE STATED THE PROBLEM IS YOU CAN ONLY GET THE PART FROM MAZDA AND THEY ARE STILL SELLING THE DEFECTIVE PART. WHY ISN'T SOMEONE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. FORTUNATELY, NO PEDESTRIANS WERE NEARBY AND NEITHER MY CAR NOR I SUSTAINED ANY INJURY. CURIOUS AS TO WHY THIS WOULD HAVE OCCURRED, MY HUSBAND INVESTIGATED AND MUCH TO OUR DISMAY, WE DISCOVERED THAT MY BRIDGESTONE TURANZA TIRES ' WITH JUST 18,800 MILES ON THEM ' WERE BALD EXCEPT FOR THE GROOVES THAT RUN ALONG THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE TIRE. AT THIS TIME, WE CALLED TWO AREA BRIDGESTONE DEALERS WHO JOINTLY CONSENTED THAT THE TIRE HAD NO TREAD WEAR WARRANTY WHICH FURTHER SERVED TO REINFORCE THE FACT THAT BRIDGESTONE IS AWARE THAT THE TURANZA IS A POOR QUALITY TIRE NOT WORTHY OF WARRANTY. WHEN QUESTIONED ABOUT THE POOR STATE OF THE TIRES AFTER JUST 18,800 MILES, THEY INDICATED, THAT OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT THE TURANZA WAS A 'CHEAP' TIRE (THEIR SPECIFIC VERBIAGE), IT COULD ALSO BE DUE TO POOR DRIVER HABITS OR AN OUT-OF-ALIGNMENT VEHICLE OR BOTH. BECAUSE I AM THE SOLE DRIVER OF MY VEHICLE AND COMMUTE JUST 21 MILES ROUND-TRIP TO MY JOB VIA A STATE-MAINTAINED ROAD WITH A MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT OF 50 MPH, POOR DRIVER HABITS IS ELIMINATED. FURTHERMORE, INVESTIGATION ALSO REVEALED THAT THE CAR WAS, IN FACT, NOT OUT-OF-ALIGNMENT, AS WE HAVE NOW REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES ON THE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE ALIGNMENT WAS FINE. I HAVE A MAZDA 2007 CX 7 WITH BRIDGESTONE TIRES. I HAVE 25,480 MILES AND DO NOT CARRY ANYTHING HEAVY. THE CAR IS USUALLY USED FOR LOCAL TRAVEL WIH 1 PERSON IN IT AND NO MORE THAN 2, BOTH OF US TOGETHER WEIGH LESS THAN 300 LBS. TWO OF MY TIRES HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND ANOTHER ONE WITHIN THE NEXT 1000 MILES. PEOPLE WHO HAVE PURCHASED THIS MODEL HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT TIRES WEARING OUT AT 22,000 MILES AND MAZDA NOR BRIDGESTONE WILL DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS IS A POTENTIAL PROBLEM IN WHICH TIRES WILL BLOW OUT CAUSING EITHER PROPERTY DAMAGE OR LOSS OF LIFE. I HAVE NOT REPLACED THE TIRES YET, SO THEY ARE AVAILABLE FOR INSEPCTION. PEOPLE PURCHASING THESE AUTOMOBILES SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THESE TIRES WEAR OUT AT AROUND 22K MILES, SINCE I WOULD HAVE EITHER ASKED TO HAVE THE TIRES REPLACED OR I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED THE CAR. WHEN YOU PURCHASE TIRES FROM A AUTO SHOP, THEY INDICATE THE NORMAL WEAR OF THE TIRE. ALL NEW AUTOS SHOULD HAVE THE SAME REQUIREMENT. THE MAZDA 2007 CX-7 SHOWS EXCESSIVE WEAR ON TIRES AFTER 12,000 MILES. DEALER SAID HE RED LINED TIRES AND TO REPLACE THEM. THE TIRES ARE BRIDGESTONE EL-42 P235/60R/18 102H. WHILE DRIVING ON COLORADO STATE HIGHWAY 91 AT APPROX 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DIED. THE ENGINE CEASED WORKING, ALL SYSTEMS CEASED IMMEDIATELY. I WAS UNABLE EVEN TO SAFELY PULL THE CAR ONTO THE SHOULDER, THE LOSS OF POWER WAS SO COMPLETE AND SO SUDDEN. THE VEHICLE WAS 200 MILES FROM MY HOME, AND 250 MILES FROM THE CLOSEST DEALER AT THAT POINT, SO I HAD IT TOWED TO THE CLOSEST GARAGE THAT WOULD LOOK AT IT, ABOUT 60 MILES AWAY. THAT GARAGE EVALUATED THE CAR AND STATED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN HAD BROKEN AND A NEW ENGINE WOULD BE REQUIRED, AT APPROXIMATELY $6,000 TO $8,000. I PHONED THE CLOSEST MAZDA DEALER, IN DENVER, AND ASKED WHAT THEY RECOMMENDED. THEY ALSO STATED THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED, AT A COST OF $8,000 TO $9,000. I CONTACTED THE GARAGE CLOSEST TO MY HOME AND ASKED THEIR ADVICE. THEY STATED THEY HAD EXPERIENCE REPLACING THE TIMING CHAINS AND REPAIRING ENGINE DAMAGE IN OTHER VEHICLES AND THAT THEY COULD DIAGNOSE WHETHER THAT WAS AN OPTION. THEIR GUESS ON COST WAS BETWEEN $2,000 AND $4,000 IF THE REPAIR WERE POSSIBLE AND THERE WAS NOT TOO MUCH DAMAGE TO VALVES. SINCE THE SHOP THAT IS 25 MILES FROM MY HOME RECOMMENDED REPAIR AT LESS THAN 1/2 THE COST OF THE DEALER 200 MILES FROM MY HOME, I ELECTED TO TAKE IT THERE. UPON RESEARCH I FOUND 1. THE VIN # IS ONE IN A SERIES WITH KNOWN TIMING CHAIN FAILURE, AND THAT A HEAVIER DUTY ONE HAD BEEN ISSUED TO REPLACE; 2. THE DEALER HAD REPLACED THE VVT PREVIOUSLY AND SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THE TIMING CHAIN AT THAT TIME ACCORDING TO SERVICE BULLETIN 01-012/12, BUT DID NOT REPLACE THE TIMING CHAIN; 3. THE FAILURE HAPPENED 4 DAYS AFTER THE EXPIRATION OF THE ENGINE WARRANTY AND 7,000 MILES OVER THE 7YR/70,000 MI PERIOD; 4. MAZDA WOULD NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY SINCE THE REPAIRS WERE DONE BY AN INDEPENDENT SHOP, NOT A DEALER. MAZDA KNOWS THAT THIS VIN# IS IN A RANGE OF VEHICLES WITH THIS ISSUE BUT WILL NOT FIX.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN FEBRUARY 2013 AND TWO TIMES SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIMING CHAIN, THANKFULLY MY HUSBAND AND I BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT I HAVE A FEELING THAT IT WILL DO IT AGAIN BEFORE I EVEN PAY MY CAR OFF. JUST A MONTH AGO I HAD TO TAKE MY CAR IN BECAUSE MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SO I CHECKED MY ENGINE OIL AND THERE WAS NONE ON THE DIP STICK. CALLED THE PLACE I JUST CAME FROM GETTING MY OIL CHANGED THE WEEK BEFORE AND FOUND OUT THAT THE TURBO CHARGER WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND SUCKING ALL THE OIL OUT OF THE OIL PAN. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT IT COMMON FOR THAT MAKE AND MODEL... MY WARRANTY COVERED THE WORK BUT BARELY. I NOW HAVE 4,000 MILES LEFT ON MY WARRANTY.... WHAT ELSE COULD GO WRONG! I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2007 MAZDA CX-7 IN APRIL 2007, THE VEHICLE STARTED EXPERIENCING ENGINE PROBLEMS IN SEPTEMBER 2007, I WAS TOLD IT MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE VVT (VARIABLE VALVE TIMING) AND TIMING CHAIN. THE VVT WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP A SHORT TIME LATER; HOWEVER, NOT THE TIMING CHAIN. AFTER THE VVT WAS REPLACED MY VEHICLE STARTING TO EXPERIENCE THICK WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE TAIL PIPES. MY DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN ADVISED THIS WAS DUE TO A TURBO ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE. ALL OF THIS OCCURRED WITHIN THE FIRST COUPLE YEARS OF MY OWNERSHIP. I HAVE HAD THE TURBO REPAIRED (OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE), AS WELL AS THE VVT (2 TIMES) AND THE TIMING CHAIN IT ALL SEEMS TO NO AVAIL. THE CAR IS REVVING VERY HIGH ON COLD START UPS AND IS NOW EXPERIENCING A CODE AS OF THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS THAT IS STATING THERE IS A DECARBONIZATION ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE THAT IS LINKED TO THE TIMING CHAIN. OF COURSE THIS IS NOW THE 5TH TIME THIS VEHICLE ENGINE WILL BE OPENED UP TO DIAGNOSE ONE OF THE KNOWN ISSUES THAT MAZDA NORTH AMERICA IS AWARE OF. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE SINCE 2007, AND HAS JUST OVER 120,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE MAINTAINED A VERY GOOD SERVICE HISTORY ON THE VEHICLE TAKING IT TO "RELIABLE" MAZDA DEALERSHIPS IN THE AREA WHERE I LIVE. TURNING INTO A WALMART PARKING LOT MY CAR SHUT DOWN FOR NO REASON. ALMOST GOT HIT BY ANOTHER CAR THAT WAS PASSING BY SINCE I WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN. TURNING INTO MY APARTMENT COMPLEX THE CAR TURNED OFF AGAIN. STARTED TO RESEARCH ISSUES WITH THIS CAR AND I RAN INTO MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. CAR TURNED OFF ANOTHER 4 TIMES. DRIVING EAST ACROSS THE BAY BRIDGE FROM SF, THE ENGINE MADE A WHEEZING NOISE. AFTER A MILE THE POWER DROPPED, AND THE CAR WOULD ONLY TRAVEL AT 30 MPH. NO ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TO WARN OF THIS, EVEN DURING THE EVENT. AT THIS POINT IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT IT NEEDED REPAIR ATTENTION, AND WE FOUND A MAZDA DEALER/REPAIR SHOP RELATIVELY CLOSE BY TO DRIVE IT TO. ONCE THEY HAD A CHANCE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, THEY REPORTED TO US THAT ENGINE 'SLUDGE' WAS TO BLAME. THE TIMING CHAIN HAD BEEN RUBBING, AND THE VVT ACTUATOR HAD BEEN COMPROMISED. TURBO GALLEYS WERE ALSO PLUGGED. IN JAN. OF THIS YEAR, MAZDA POSTED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR CX-7'S TIMING CHAIN AND VVT. HOWEVER, THE DEALER INFORMED US AFTER CHECKING WITH MAZDA THAT WE WERE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE WARRANTY. GAPS IN OUR HISTORY OF REPAIR WAS THE GIVEN REASON. AFTER AN APPEAL, THE REP FROM MAZDA SAID THE HIGHEST AUTHORITY HAD REVIEWED THE CLAIM AND AGAIN DECLINED TO HELP. WE HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CX-7 OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. The headlights are horrible for night time driving. The low beam lights are nearly invisible, which leaves you no choice but to drive with high beam lights and still poses a serious safety risk. Vehicle was taken to dealership and asked if there had been any recalls on the headlights because they’re very dangerous, can’t see anything at night.

THE HEADLIGHTS ON THIS VEHICLE ARE COMPLETELY INADEQUATE FOR NIGHT DRIVING. THEY DO NOT PROJECT ANY WHERE NEAR ENOUGH LIGHT TO SEE IN UNLIT AREAS WHERE YOU CANNOT USE HIGH BEAMS. THE LIGHT IS YELLOW NO MATTER WHAT BULB YOU USE AND DOES NOT PROJECT DOWN ROAD AT ALL.

HAPPEN 2 DAYS AGO WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED A BURNING SMELL OF PLASTIC INSIDE THE CABIN AND UPON INSPECTION I TRACED IT AT THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS. THE BULBS GETS TO HOT AND MELTING THE PLASTIC INSIDE THE HOUSING OF THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY. THIS CAR HAS A CLEAR TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND SINCE IT'S BURNING THE LENS IS BECOMING SMOKY. I THINK IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT THIS BULB CAN CAUSE A FIRE IN THE FUTURE.

IN APRIL 2009 THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR FAILED ON MY 2007 MAZDA CX-7. THERE WAS APPROXIMATELY 49,000 MILES ON THE CAR WHEN THIS HAPPENED. WE REPLACED THE COMPRESSOR WITH AN AFTERMARKET COMPRESSOR BECAUSE THE DEALER INDICATED IT WAS NOT IN WARRANTY. SOME TIME LATER WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM MAZDA EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON THE COMPRESSOR TO 60,000 MILES. IN THE LETTER MAZDA EXPLAINED THAT IF THE COMPRESSOR HAD ALREADY BEEN CHANGED THEY WOULD REIMBURSE US FOR THE CHARGES. THE PAPERWORK HAD BEEN MISPLACED AT THE TIME SO WE DID NOT CONTACT MAZDA FOR REIMBURSEMENT. IN DECEMBER 2010 MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR IN DALLAS TEXAS WHEN SHE HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. A BURNING SMELL STARTED COMING THROUGH THE VENTS, THEN SMOKE STARTED COMING INTO THE CAR, SHE HAD TO CROSS THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET OFF OF THE ROAD. THE CAR STOPPED RUNNING BEFORE SHE COULD GET OFF OF THE ROAD. A DRIVER STOPPED AND HELPED HER GET THE CAR OFF OF THE ROAD, LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED. SHE CALLED ME AND TOLD ME WHAT HAPPENED, I CALLED FOR A WRECKER AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A MAZDA DEALERSHIP NEARBY. THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED ME AND TOLD ME IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $ 1,800.00 TO REPAIR THE CAR. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE MILEAGE HAD EXCEEDED ITS LIMITS FOR WARRANTY. HE LATER CALLED AND SAID THAT WHEN THE BELT BROKE IT HAD DAMAGED THE PULLEY ON THE CRANKSHAFT AND THAT FOR THE CAR TO RUN PROPERLY IT WOULD ALSO NEED TO BE REPLACED. I CONTACTED THE CONSUMER DIVISION OF MAZDA AND WAS BASICALLY TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 60,000 MILES AND THAT THE CAR HAD EXCEEDED ITS WARRANTY. IT IS NOT NORMAL FOR AC COMPRESSORS TO FAIL IN SUCH A SHORT TIME UNLESS THERE IS A DEFECT. MAZDA KNEW THIS THAT IS WHY THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A USED MAZDA CX-7 GRAND TOURING EDITION VEHICLE. I BOUGHT IT ON NOVEMBER 8, 2008 WITH 18,000 MILES ON IT. AFTER OWNING IT FOR A YEAR AND A HALF I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ONE MORNING WHEN I HEARD A POP AND CLANKING SOUND. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE UNTIL MY CAR STARTED LOSING POWER HOWEVER I MANAGED TO MAKE IT TO WORK. NO LIGHTS CAME ON, NOTHING. MY HUSBAND CAME THAT MORNING TO DRIVE THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC AND WITHIN 2 MILES ALL THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER. IT WAS TOWED TO GRAPPONE MAZDA IN CONCORD NH FOR WHAT I THOUGHT WOULD BE WARRANTY WORK SINCE WE WERE STILL UNDER THE WARRANTY. WHEN DRIVING THERE IS A RATTLING NOISE THAT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING IS LOOSE. WAS TOLD FROM MAZDA SERVICE DEPT. THAT IT WAS VVT (VARIABLE VALVE TIMING) ITS A CHAIN WHICH IS - THE PROCESS OF ALTERING THE TIMING OF A VALVE LIFT EVENT, AND IS OFTEN USED TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE, FUEL ECONOMY OR EMISSIONS. IT IS INCREASINGLY BEING USED IN COMBINATION WITH VARIABLE VALVE LIFT SYSTEMS. I WAS TOLD THAT MOST MAZDA CARS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AFTER MILES OF DRIVING AND THE COST OF REPAIRS IS ALMOST $2000. MAZDA ISN'T TRYING TO COVER THE REPAIR WHICH IS SHOWING TO BE HAPPENING ON ALMOST ALL OF THEIR SUVS.

SO MY A.C. DECIDES TO GO OUT THE OTHER DAY WHILE ON THE WAY TO CLASS (ON THE INTERSTATE ) AND I START TO SMELL SOMETHING BURNING, THEN TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE SMOKE STARTS COMING FROM THE VENTS!! I IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER AND HAD TO GET IT TOWED ! TOOK IT TO REPAIR SHOP TO BE LOOKED AT AND LEARNED THAT THIS IS A CONSTANT PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES! APPARENTLY THIS IS WELL KNOWN AND THERE IS SOME SORT OF MALFUNCTION AND PEOPLE ARE PAYING THE PRICE BIG TIME FOR IT. I DO NOT THINK THIS IS RIGHT. WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO, THE VEHICLE A/C COMPRESSOR LOCKED UP CAUSING THE SERPENTINE BELT TO MELT AND BREAK. THIS RESULTED IN A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND MADE CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT, IF NOT DANGEROUS. BASED ON OTHER COMPLAINTS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON 2007-08 MAZDA CX-7 VEHICLES AND SO ABSOLUTELY BE A RECALL.

The contact owns a 2007 Mazda CX-7. The contact stated that the air conditioning system was inoperable, and the cabin air filter was replaced; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, he smelled a burning odor. The contact stated that her husband drove to the residence, and while parking the vehicle, he noticed smoke coming from underneath the hood. There was no warning light illuminated. An independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle at the residence and determined that the air condition compressor clutch had seized, causing the compressor fuse to burn. The dealer was contacted, and the contact was informed that older vehicles were not service at their location. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 174,000.

I TOOK MY 2007 MAZDA CX7 FOR SERVICE AND TWO SAFETY RECALLS, LAST YEAR. THE REPLACED THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS AT THE FRONT END. THEY ALSO DID THE SAFETY RECALL 9516E=PASSENGER AIR BAG REPLACEMENT. AFTER A WHILE THE AIR BAG DASH RED LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON FOR A WHILE. MY CX7 HAS 97,500 MILES AND NOW MY ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE IS A DIESEL ENGINE WHEN I AM AT A STOP TRAFFIC LIGHT. IT SEEMS LIKE THE TIMING CHAIN IS STRETCHING. IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS I'VE HAD ISSUES WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM LIGHT ILLUMINATING ON THE DASH AND ALSO THE PASSENGER OCCUPANCY LIGHT NOT ILLUMINATING AT ALL. I THEN HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND HAD IT DIAGNOSED AND IT IS THE THERMOSTAT THAT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE TECH AT THE AUTO SHOP SAID THAT THIS IS EXTREMELY COMMON WITH MAZDA CX-7. IF THAT IS THE CASE, WHY HAS IT NOT BEEN RECALLED? I HAVE READ THROUGH HUNDREDS OF ARTICLES ONLINE STATING THE SAME ISSUES WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM AND THE THERMOSTAT.

WE PURCHASED OUR VEHICLE NEW. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG LIGHTS UP FOR NO REASON. IT'S INTERMEDIATE. I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CLAIM THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE HOWEVER NOT A RECALL THEREFORE MAZDA WILL NOT PAY FOR THE EXPENSE TO REPAIR/FIX IT. AS WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WE ACCELERATED TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. AS I ACCELERATED THE VEHICLE THE GAS PEDAL AUTOMATICALLY WENT TO THE FLOOR AND WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN. I TRIED TO TAKE CONTROL OF THE VIOLENTLY SPEEDING MAZDA CX-7. AS I TAPPED THE BRAKE THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN, THE CAR WOULD JUST ACCELERATE FASTER AND SHAKE BACK AND FOURTH. AT THIS POINT I HAD TO AWAKEN MY FIANCE FROM SLEEPING TO LET HER KNOW WE HAD A PROBLEM AND TO BRACE HERSELF IN CASE OF ACCIDENT. KNOWING THAT THE CAR WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN BY TAPPING THE BRAKE I USED BOTH FEET TO TRY TO STOP THE MAZDA. 1. I WAS PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE AS I WAS MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY VIA AN ON-RAMP. THE CAR WAS PREVIOUSLY DRIVING NORMALLY WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. 2. THE CAR KEPT ON ACCELERATING AFTER I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE PEDAL. MAZDA CX7 (FWD) EXHIBITS ABNORMAL TIRE WEAR(CUPPING,FEATHERING) ON ALL (4) TIRES AFTER LESS THAN 1000 MILES. BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE PURCHASING DEALER WHO RE-BALANCED AND REALIGNED. TIRES CONTINUED TO EXHIBIT THE SAME WEAR AFTER 2000 MILES AND RIDE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS HAD SOME VIBRATION AND ROUGH FEEL AT LOWER SPEEDS. DEALER ONCE AGAIN REALIGNED VEHICLE AND INCREASED THE PSI ON ALL 4 TIRES TO 36PSI. AT JUST OVER 5000 MILES VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT INTO DEALER AGAIN, STILL CONTINUING TO SHOW ABNORMAL WEAR AND POOR RIDE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (VIBRATION & ROUGH). DEALER REALIGNED AND RE-BALANCED ALL WHEELS AND ONCE AGAIN INCREASED TIRE INFLATION TO 36PSI. I LATER CONTACTED THE SERVICE MGR AND TOLD HIM THAT I DID NOT LIKE THE FACT THAT HE INCREASED THE TIRE PRESSURE OVER THE MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDED SETTINGS AND THAT THIS WOULD CAUSE THE TIRE TO WEAR DOWN THE CENTER QUICKLY. *JB

WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED FROM A CAR DEALERSHIP CALLED HEAVY FOOT MOTORS IN SAN ANTONIO TX. THE VERY NEXT DAY, THE VEHICLE STARTED SMOKING FROM THE HOOD, EXHAUST, AND SMOKE CAME THROUGH THE AIR VENTS. MY WIFE GOING ABOUT 5-10MPH WHILE MAKING A TURN IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD WHEN THE SMOKING STARTED. WE TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED. THEIR MECHANIC TOOK THE VEHICLE AND HAD IT FOR THREE WEEKS. I PICKED THE VEHICLE UP AND MADE IT MAYBE 5 MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD, AND THE VEHICLE DID THE SAME THING. SO I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND IT IS CURRENTLY THERE AS OF 4/4/2020. MY SAFETY CONCERN IS THAT THERE IS SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE ENGINE, EXHAUST, AS WELL AS THROUGH THE AC VENT AND GOING INTO THE VEHICLE. ALSO, WHEN I WENT TO INSTALL MY CHILDREN'S SEAT BELT WE REALIZED THE BACK SEATS SEAT BELTS DO NOT LOCK TO SECURE A CARSEAT. THAT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME. ALSO, UPON PURCHASE I REALIZE THERE WAS NO DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE. WE AGREED IN PURCHASE CONTRACT THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD PUT ONE ON IF I PURCHASED IT. I JUST FOUND IT STRANGE HOW YOU COULD SELL A CAR FROM A DEALERSHIP WITHOUT A DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE. THAT IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN INCASE SOMETHING WERE TO HAPPEN AND THAT WAS THE ONLY DOOR TO OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. I ALSO REALIZE NOW THAT THE TRUNK DOES NOT OPEN, THE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. ENGINE FAILURE BEING THE BIGGEST CONCERN TO THE SAFETY OF PEOPLE ON THE ROAD. ENGINE FAILURE AT 70MPH ON A BUSY HIGHWAY CAN RESULT IN DEATH. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MAZDA CX-7. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. NORTH FRONTIER AUTO (205 8TH AVE SE, PINE CITY, MN) WAS CALLED AND DIAGNOSED THAT AN UNKNOWN SENSOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE STARTED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GET THE BATTERY JUMPSTARTED AND DROVE TO NORTH FRONTIER AUTO WHERE THE CODES WERE CLEARED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN AND SOLENOID WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE SOLENOID FAILURE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE TIMING CHAIN FAILURE WAS NOT. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY STATED THAT THEY REPAIRED THE TIMING CHAIN. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AXLE, BALL JOINT, AND CONTROL ARM WERE DETACHED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FAILURES WERE CONFIRMED AND THE TIMING CHAIN WAS CONFIRMED TO BE INCORRECTLY INSTALLED BY THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 148,000.

NHTSA RECALL #16V-593 - THIS RECALL INDICATES THAT THERE IS THE RISK OF SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. THIS RECALL IS TAKING AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF TIME, AND I THINK THAT IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THIS BE EXPEDITED IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE PART BEFORE IT BECOMES A MORE SEVERE ISSUE WHICH COULD INCLUDE LITIGATION. THE STEERING CONTROL IS A VITAL PART OF THE OPERATION OF THIS VEHICLE AND I DON'T THINK THAT IT IS FEASIBLE OR FAIR TO THE OWNERS OF MAZDA VEHICLES TO BE PLACED IN SUCH A PRECARIOUS SITUATION. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ESCALATED SO THAT EXISTING OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES CAN GET THE REPLACEMENT PARTS THAT ARE NEEDED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. ALSO, WHEN I RECEIVED MY RECEIPT, THEY HAD THE MILEAGE WRONG BY 20,000 MILES (POTENTIALLY AFFECTING CARFAX REPORTS) , AND INDICATED ON THE SHEET THAT OTHER AREAS SUCH AS LIGHTS WERE FINE AND THEY WERE NOT. THEY DID MENTION THAT MY TURBO MAY NEED REPLACING SOON (ANOTHER CONSISTENT COMPLAINT). THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION SUIT FILED IN NJ REGARDING THIS AND IT WAS THROWN OUT. I PURCHASED MY 2007 MAZDA CX-7 FROM A DEALERSHIP IN GREENSBURG, PA IN FEBRUARY OF 2014, IT WAS PURCHASED AS A USED CAR WITH ONLY 36,500 MILES ON IT. I TOOK IT MY MECHANIC BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO GET IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A WEEK AT SOME POINTS AND THE LIGHT WOULD HAVE BE OFF BY THEN. TIMING CHAIN REPLACEMENT RESULTED IN A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND ITS HOUSING. REPLACING THE TIMING CHAIN RETURNED THE ENGINE TO PRODUCTION LINE SPECS, THAT WERE TOO MUCH FOR A WORN FUEL PUMP TO HANDLE. THE INCREASED PRESSURE TO THE FUEL PUMP SHATTERED IT INTO NUMEROUS PIECES LESS THAN 100 MILES AFTER THE TIMING CHAIN WAS REPLACED. SAID PIECES BECAME LODGED INSIDE THE CAM SHAFT AND ENDED UP BENDING ALL OF THE VALVES. THE NECESSITATED A COMPLETE VALVE JOB, REMOVING AND REPLACING THE CYLINDER HEAD, FUEL PUMP, CAM SHAFT AND OIL CONTROL CALVE. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET, I AM READING THE SAME INCIDENTS FROM THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE CONCERNING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. MAZDA HAS FINALLY STATES THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE TIMING CHAINS AND HAS ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON IT. BUT FROM READING REPORTS, MAZDA IS GIVING PEOPLE A HARD TIME. PURCHASED MY VEHICLE 15 MONTHS AGO AT 38,000 MILES. IN OCTOBER, I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND THE CAR STOPPED RUNNING. NO WARNING, NOTHING ON THE DASH LIGHTING UP, THE VEHICLE JUST STARTED LOOSING SPEED. THE STEERING WAS GOING AS WELL. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL TO TRY AND GET THE STEERING BACK AND IT WAS A HARD STEER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I STARTED TO ACCELERATE AFTER COMING OFF OF AN EXIT RAMP WHEN I HEARD A NOISE FROM THE ENGINE THEN I STARTED TO LOSE POWER. AN EXCESS OF WHITE SMOKE EMITTED FROM EXHAUST UPON ACCELERATION AFTER A BRIEF PERIOD OF IDLE. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A FAULTY TURBO CHARGER WAS TO BLAME. SO THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR 7 DAYS WHILE THEY REPLACED THE TURBO. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER THE CAR WOULDN'T START AFTER SITTING IN A HEATED GARAGE OVERNIGHT. IT SOUNDED AS THOUGH THE CYLINDERS WEREN'T FIRING PROPERLY. CAR WAS TOWED TO MECHANIC WHO IDENTIFIED ISSUE AS FOULED CYLINDER HEADS FROM PRIOR FAILURE OF TURBO. THIS TIME THE ENTIRE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. AGAIN THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR APPROXIMATELY SEVEN DAYS. SOME MONTHS LATER AN OPPRESSIVE AMOUNT OF ROAD NOISE APPEARED AT ALL SPEEDS ON ALL ROAD SURFACES. WE WERE DIRECTED THAT THE TIRES WERE TO BLAME. AFTER REPLACING ALL 4 TIRES AT A COST OF NEARLY $800 THE SOUND PERSISTED. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE TECHNICIAN FOUND THAT THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS ON THE REAR WHEELS HAD FAILED ALLOWING WATER TO SEEP IN AND RUST REAR WHEEL BEARINGS. ALL FOUR WHEEL BEARINGS WHERE REPLACED. TODAY THE VEHICLE IS AGAIN IN FOR ENGINE REPAIR TO REPLACE THE OXYGEN SENSOR AND A DEAD BATTERY. CONSUMER EXPERIENCED SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SHORTLY AFTER SHE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, SHE NOTICED THE HEADLIGHTS POINTING TOWARD THE GROUND AND IT TOOK 3-5 TRIPS TO THE DEALER BEFORE IT WAS PROPERLY FIXED. AT ABOUT 55,000 MILES AND ONLY 3 YEARS OF USAGE, MY VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A TERRIBLE RACKET AND SMELL. MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 2007 MAZDA CX-7 A FEW YEARS AGO, AND OVER THE LAST THREE MONTHS IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP WITH MULTIPLE PROBLEMS. FROM AN OIL LEAK, TO A BAD COMPRESSOR, THEN THE TIMING CHAIN GONE BAD AND NOW ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE EGR. THE CAR HAS A LITTLE OVER 38K MILES AND TO ME IT SEEMS VERY ODD FOR A CAR BEING THIS YOUNG IN MILES, TO HAVE MAJOR PROBLEMS SUCH AS THESE. AFTER GOING BACK AND FORTH WITH THE MAZDA CORPORATE OFFICE, THEY FIRST AGREED TO PAY FOR THE PARTS FOR MY LATEST PROBLEMS SINCE I'M NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. I WAS FINE WITH THAT UNTIL I FOUND OUT THE LABOR WAS OVER $500 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. WHEN I CALL THE CORPORATE OFFICE TO TRY TO DISCUSS SPLITTING THE LABOR COSTS, THEIR SUPERVISOR CONTACTED ME BACK WITH AN ATTITUDE LIKE I DID SOMETHING WRONG AND DECIDED THEY WERE NOW NOT GOING TO HELP AT ALL. I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW MAZDA CX-7 IN JULY 2007. I TOOK IT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON AUGUST 9TH BECAUSE OF A LOUD NOISE FROM THE REAR INTERIOR. THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED ME THAT THE NOISE WAS FROM THE REAR MID SEAT BELT THAT RETRACTS INTO THE ROOF. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE SEAT BELT HAD NOT BEEN FITTED CORRECTLY AT THE ASSEMBLY PLANT AND THAT THE SEAT BELT WAS INOPERATIVE. THEY ORDERED A NEW SEAT BELT AND REPLACED THE ORIGINAL BELT. BEFORE TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER I HAD BEEN DRIVING MY YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE REAR SEAT ON THE ASSUMPTION THAT THE SEAT BELT WORKED AND MY CHILD WAS SAFE. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF THE ASSEMBLY PLANT CAN FIT A SEAT BELT THAT IS INOPERATIVE ONCE AND IT PASSES ALL THE PLANT QUALITY CHECKS, THEY CAN DO IT MANY MORE TIMES.
