What's wrong. Thule, inc. Is recalling 2,323 owner-installed roof-mounted fit kits, models 3068 and 3069, manufactured between january 1, 2008 and february 28, 2009 that are used with thule podium foot packs, models 460 and 460r. These fit kits were sold as aftermarket equipment for use on the vehicles listed above. Fix. Thule will mail a retro fit kit along with repair instructions to owners free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before april 13, 2009. Owners may contact thule toll-free at 1-800-238-2388.

2007 CX-7

While driving home with my a/c on, my 2007 mazda cx7 began making a terrible whining & grinding sound, followed by billows of smoke coming from under the hood. I immediately pulled off the road, turned off the car and opened the hood, which continued to smoke for some time and there was a smell of burning rubber. I burned my hand in the process. The car was deemed unsafe and undriveable and had to be towed back to the nearest mazda dealer where we had also purchased the vehicle. It was late at night, so ,the next morning i received a call from the dealer telling me the fire started with the a/c compressor, which then ignited the drive belt. That's why it smelled so awful. He said it was "burned badly". The parts were not in stock, so, they have to order new parts. So, i'm without transportation. No offer from the dealer for a rental. They also did not tell me that there was a recall on 2007 mazda cx7 a/c compressors, which i learned about by online research. I never received a letter from mazda regarding the recall. So, it turns out that many, many people are experiencing the same issue and not enough is being done about it to fix the problem. The car has less than 30k miles and recently had a full inspection by the dealer. I'm now waiting to find out if the dealer will try to get me to pay for this or if they will honor the warranty. Many online complainants are being denied and are being forced to pay for this themselves. This is not right. *tr

Finally after pulling over on a safe place on the side of the hwy i realized the a/c compressor locked and the clutch fell off and the serpentine belt for the steering was broken as well.. What a mess and dangerous situation.. Now de dealer says my car a/c compressor repair isn't covered under the warranty with only 39000 miles on it.. 2008 CX-7

On my way to work i glanced in my rearview mirror and noticed white smoke coming out from behind my car. I looked at my gauges and noticed that my battery light was on and my temperature gauge was all the way on hot. Pulled to the side of the road and, as i pulled over my engine light came on and my power steering went out. I shut off the car and called my husband (who owns a collision repair shop and a tow truck) and told him to come and get me and my disabled car. As i sat in my car waiting, a police officer came to check that i was o.k. The officer sat in his car behind me for about 10 minutes and then backed out and left. Within a few minutes of the officer leaving a gentleman and his wife pulled over a good way up in front of my car. The gentleman got out of his car and started running to me shouting get out, get out, your car is on fire!? The gentleman called 911 to summon the fire department. As we waited for the fire department a highway patrol assistance vehicle pulled over because they had a fire extinguisher. My husband arrived and took the car back to his place of business. Our insurance was company was called and they sent a claims adjuster out to assess the damage. Our claims adjuster determined that the fire had started with the air conditioner and had caused $3,900.00 in damage to the mechanicals of the car. *tr

I was traveling in valencia on the 5 freeway and the interior of my 2008 mazda cx-7 filled with smoke to the point where i found it difficult to drive. I pulled to the exit (magic mountain pkwy) and pulled to the side turning off the engine. After several minutes i lifted the hood to find that the engine was still smoking around the belt area. I was able to get the car to firestone newhall, ca where they are still looking at it. Very dangerous situation. The ac compressor seized causing the belt to fire and almost catch fire. After further research i have found that this is a common and dangerous problem with this make and model. *tr

I'm mexican woman . The first of august 2010 to go on the road (towards the city of queretaro, mexico, in a van mazda cx 7 2008 model first and let the air conditioning running, then started to smoke the driver's side, suddenly the short time stopped the car and when we got off shore and we saw that was on fire, stopped the fire and water damage, according to the agency are of 46 thousand pesos as two months ago that ended our warranty does not want to be responsible for the incident . We were all family, including my sun of four years, i think that could had passed if the car had exploded, we took gasoline 30 minutes previous to the fire . I've gotten a number of forums to investigate complaints and there are scores equal to that of the same model. There are others in the cx 9 that even if you already acknowledged that the agency is also a risk of fire trucks were summoned ac. In our case say it is for use and is not factory defect nothing, not even now deny that the problem is in the air conditioning compressor and this was what we had said now say it's pulleys. Honestly i'm desperate, i want to help, see qe many people have had this problem and is not fair is very expensive and especially djando the money was really terrible, i was shocked muchisimo feared for our lives and i think that is a very serious matter and are not taking well. Please i need help. The only thing i'm told by phone mazda customer service in mexico is that there is nothing to do and there is no instance where to turn, this scares me a lot i can not believe it. *tr

2008 CX-7

I was driving my 2008 mazda cx-7 from baytown, texas to killeen, texas when i noticed that the air conditioning stopped working. Approximately 3-5 miles later white smoke billowed from under the hood and my steering locked. Because there was no suitable terrain on the right and because i was steering around a right-turn, i was forced to pull to the left. Because of the smoke and the distraction caused by the incident, i did not realize that there was a semi-truck heading towards me in the other lane. If it wasn't for the adept handling of the truck drive, i would have surely gone head on and i would have been killed. I was towed to bryan, texas where the vehicle was repaired after a whole day in the shop. They repaired the air conditioning compressor, an engine mount, a pulley i believe and some other miscellaneous items to the tune of over $1,400. I was extremely upset when i found out it was a common problem...one that nearly caused me my life. I have two small children that drive with me extremely frequently and i find it hard to believe that nothing s being done about mazda placing people in danger like this. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 mazda cx7. While driving black smoke was expelled through the vents of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. A technician from the dealer stated that the air conditioning clutch and belt had failed. He then added that the failure was a manufacturer defect. However, the estimated cost for the repair was $1,243.00. The manufacturer took a report, and a representative stated that they would assist with the repair. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The failure and current mileages were 42,000.

Purchased vehicle in 1/2008. 2008 mazda cx-7 we took a trip from salt lake city, ut to las vegas, nv the weekend of may 1-3, 208. Check engine light came on, along with the at light when we climbed any sort of a hill on i-15 i made an appointment on may 4th the mazda dealership (d. Dahle mazda salt lake city) did the repairs when i picked up the vehicle, transmission was reprogrammed because the shift points were not correct. Mileage out was 10408 on 5/18/09 my wife was driving south on i-15 when the check engine and at lights came on again just north of mile marker 185. Smoke was coming out of the vents when she pulledover. Witnesses ran up to the car yelling for her to get out, the car was on fire. Drivers area was fully engulfed. Although she was not injured (thank god) it was a narrow escape according to witnesses contacted mazda road side service they contacted steele towing. Flagged down two semi drivers, they got out there fire extinguishers and discharged them the vehicle became fully engulfed, and ended up having an explosion uhp arrived on scene (trooper derek spencer badge # 341 ) local fire arrived. Two fire trucks attempted to extinguish, vehicle was totally destroyed. Vehicle was towed to steele towing in nephi, ut met steele towing at 8:00 a.m. Next morning before the vehicle was taken to d. Dahle mazda in salt lake city close to 200 photographs of the vehicle and spoke with the towing company. Contacted rob meyer general manager during our drive home. All he would say to us is 'to contact our insurance company'. This is not an insurance issue. This is a faulty vehicle, a dealership, and auto manufacturer that will not honor the warranty and keeps directing us to contact our insurance company. I do not want to see this happen to another person.. This is of great concern towards consumers, vehicle safety and the unwillingness of the manufacturer in regard the safety of the public. Much more documentation, photographs. *tr

2007 CX-7

Started smelling strong burning rubber odor emanating through vents of car while in operation, exited highway upon seeing white smoke fuming from under hood. Loss control of steering and vehicle shut off and would not crank again. Mechanic determined ac compressor has seized and serpentine belt was snapped due to friction from pulleys. If i had stayed on freeway instead of exiting, with the lost of steering i surely would have posed a danger to myself as well as others on the road. This complaint is one of numerous thousands that have been filed on behalf of mazda and its cx-7 model. There should be a recall issued for the ac compressor before it causes serious injury and/or fatality. *tr

There was a recall on my vehicle in oct 2016 , i had already lost control of my vehicle and had an accident in sept 2016 and had to pay insurance fees storage fees and lost wages due to accident. Mazda sent me a letter as of march 2018 saying that thet now have the parts to fix it after 6 months..i was driving down the street and lost control of steering and crashed into a parked car. I would like to find out how i can be compensated because i lost control of the vehicle because of defect

Shortly after purchasing vehicle replaced timing, turbo, exaust, ball joints, tie rod ends & much more. Timing was first, then driving and turbo went out. 2 days ago car sitting in driveway, not running, started smoking from under hood, butst into flames and burnt up. Mazda said no recalls, clearly not true according to website. Almost burnt my house also as it was sitting in driveway and couldnt be moved. If we would have been inside the car, i doubt we would of had time to get pulled over & out as thats how quick it burnt!

Mazda cxc 7 2012 there is a safety recall due to front front suspension ball joint fitting that can cause the ball joint and lower control arm to seperate. This can cause loss of steering control increasing risk of a crash. I called bright bay mazda in bayshore ny 1-631-666-6100 and was advised to bring car in. I did and it was looked over. I was it did not need immediate attention on 11/21/2016 and that when the parts came in they would fix the car. I called today 1/19/18 and was told they still dont have the part and that this is a preliminary notice that gets sent to car owners per sherry at mazda. Seriously 2 years and no resolution. I want to file a complaint.

Got a recall alert in the mail in oct 2016 but states they will reach out when parts are available. It's almost march 2017 and they are still saying they don't have the parts. The description in the recall references salt in the winter ultimately corroding the ball joint. Sounds like a significant risk to me.

When driving with the a/c on, the ecm seems to malfunction and increase the speed of the car when the ac compressor turns on. If you are in the process of braking, the car will not stop and it will require the driver to press harder on the brakes. The car gets and extra boost of energy and even though you are braking, the car lunges forward and continues to roll further. If the driver is caught off guard, this will lead to an accident. I crashed my car into a family members house as i was parking. Luckily, the parking bumper slowed down the car enough so as to only slightly bump the house. It has happened in regular traffic as well. Luckily, i keep a safe distance from cars and brake early but now i brake even earlier just in case. Volkswagen had the same problem and they did a large recall on the vehicle because of the safety issue it involves. If you own a cx-7 keep an eye out for this, especially when the a/c is on. It only happens when the timing is just right that you are braking and the compressor turns on a that precise moment so it will catch you off guard and scare the daylights out of you. I've been lucky so far but this could definitely cause major damage if not recalled in order to fix. Here is the info from a recall from volkswagen. Volkswagen is recalling approximately 4,000 of its cars. The automaker will fix engine control module software that can trigger an unexpected increase in engine rpm, according to the national highway traffic safety administration. "these vehicles have an engine control module containing software that may not properly control engine idle with the air-conditioning turned on," nhtsa said in its summary of the problem. On sunday, january 4, 2015, i was driving my 2008 mazda cx-7 and i stopped at a stoplight. When i tried to take off when the light turned green, my car hesitated and when i pressed on the gas peddle a little more, it still hesitated then finally took off. All of a sudden, i heard an extremely loud popping noise, and then thick, heavy white smoke started to come out of the tailpipe. The white smoke then started flowing out from under the hood, and it started to come into the car through the air vents. When i tried to pull over and put the car in park, it wouldn't shift into gear, so i pushed the parking break, and it finally stopped. I got out of the car and when i went to grab my purse, i saw fire coming through the bottom air vents ( the ones that blow air on your feet) so i grabbed my purse as quickly as i could, and ran away from the car. Then, i saw part of the engine fall out of the bottom of the car, on fire, and burn into the street. About 5 seconds later, the whole entire car burst into flames. All of the doors were closed, but the intensity of the fire blew both of the passenger side doors open, and blew out all of the windows (including the sunroof, which was closed at the time). When the firefighters finally put the fire out, the car was still smoldering and everything inside was melted. The steering wheel, the seats, the door handles, the mirrors, everything. The fire was so strong that it blew the hood back onto the windshield. All that is left of the car, is just the metal frame, and the engine. The car has a 4 cylinder engine with a turbo feature on it. I believe that is what caused the fire and made the loud popping sound initially. *tr

On the 4th of july my family and i were driving to westchester from manhattan. We had a full tank of gas, recent oil change and new car battery. The car is always maintained and it has never given us any trouble. During our drive we noticed something was wrong. The the car started to feel hot, but we weren't too sure if it's just hot out or if there was something wrong, because the ac was on. We pulled over and turned the car off. We checked the coolant and saw that we had oil. We opened the trunk, felt around to see if it was hot and to see if we smell anything. It seemed fine. As soon as we drove off, not 2 minutes in, when driver said the gas petal felt weird, it dropped from 50 to 30 to 20mph and we heard a light drilling noise. As soon as we stepped out of the car, it was in flames. Our family could have died. Https://www.facebook.com/valhallafd/posts/1548408978544577

The controls essential for vehicle operation (speedometer, tachometer, transmission gear placement), otherwise known as the center "cluster" controls are illuminated regardless if headlights are on or off. This vehicle is not equipped with automatic headlights, thus making this issue more pressing. When the dash controls are illuminated, you forget to turn on your head lamps to make yourself visible to other vehicles. Mazda stated that the dash controls are illuminated in order to make gauges more visible. My whole argument has been that if i am having even the slightest difficulty seeing my dashboard due to poor lighting (whether it be cloudy, dark, dusk, etc.) my head lamps should be on. If the dash is illuminated, you will forget to turn on your head lamps. This has already caused one accident, and i am afraid that it may lead to more in the future.

2008 CX-7

The oem bulbs in the brake lights are too hot and after some time the bulbs burn through the plastic, causing the brake lenses to get cloudy, the plastic to melt onto the bulb, and the red tint to fade in the brake lights. My car is like this and every 2008 cx-7 i've seen has the same thing - cloudy and burned brake lenses from the bulbs burning a hole in the brake lense plastic.

No matter the bulbs I use, the headlights are always dim. This is incredibly unsafe for night driving.

2012 CX-7

The headlights are too dim for safe night driving. Bulbs also fail yearly. This is a common problem reported with 2012 MAZDA CX7

2012 CX-7

No accidents has happened, but the low beam headlights keep blowing out. I have to have them replaced every 3-6 months. Obviously there is a problem. Upon doing search on internet, i notice several complaints on this problem. Lights are not cheap and very frustrating when you are driving at night and this happens.

2012 CX-7

The dim lights are so dangerous and do not provide any visibility at night at all. It is very dangerous to drive and i have had so many near misses while passing other vehicles or trying to not run off the road due to not being able to see. Plus the bulbs burn out several times throughout the year and i'm constantly having to replace them. But to drive at night is so scary because i cannot see the roadway due to poor lighting from the cars headlights. And also the motors that roll down the windows are constantly going out and i have to replace those as well otherwise my window gets stuck and i can't get it to roll back up.

2012 CX-7

Headlights blow numerous times in a year. When 'operational''the headlights are very dim at night. I researched and this seems to be a reoccurring issue on many mazda vehicles. I have tried to reach out to mazda, with no response. This is very dangerous and my turn signals are brighter than my lights. Everyone on the forum suggests the projector lenses that come equipped are faulty. I spent $400 on aftermarket headlights (full housing) to try and rectify this problem or make it better to be able to see at night, since i have heard nothing from mazda and they seem not willing to look inside the issue with many of their vehicles.this has been a repccuing issue since purchase in 2012.

On 12/14/2015, i was driving about 60-65 mph on a maryland highway at around 10am. I was in the next lane beside the fast lane. The 2011 mazda cx7 started to decelerate. I looked down at the gages to make sure i didn't inadvertently go into neutral. I was still in drive. I hit the brake, not coming to a complete stop, and then stepped back on the gas, pushing the gas pedal to the floor and the car would not accelerate. It went down to about 20 mph. In my rearview mirror i saw a tractor trailer coming toward me and there was no where i could move, and i could not see on the other side of the trailer to go into the next lane without hitting another vehicle. I was hit in the rear by the trailer. I had on my seatbelt and the airbag did not deploy. I checked for cars in the fast lane and slowly moved onto the shoulder. The driver of the truck followed me. I purchased the car used last year from mile one in baltimore, md. The car fax for the vehicle was great, with no issues. I got oil changes every 6k miles, my last one being in september 2015, at jiffy lube. This was my first instance with any acceleration and deceleration issues. If there was an issue, i did not get any indication light on my dash board that there was an issue.

Vehicle exhibits sudden acceleration. Approx 25% to 35% of the time vehicle will lurch forward when accelerating from a stop. Vehicle behaves as if the accelerator if pressed down all the way, even though it is barely engaged. Sometimes the acceleration is so strong that the tires will break loose. Sudden acceleration starts at about 2mph and stops by 10mph. Approx 5% to 10% of the time will happen in reverse as well. On approx. Nov 1, 2014 this sudden acceleration caused an crash while the vehicle was being parked. *tr

In november of 2012 my family was driving home from seattle, wa to san diego, ca. When we were driving we smelled burning rubber so pulled over to see if we could see something wrong under the hood. Since it was 10pm and dark outside we couldn't see anything and decided to find the nearest hotel to stay at until we could take it to a shop. After we started driving we saw there was a freeway exit 1/2 a mile away so my husband was driving really slow(about 35mph) hoping we could make it without any problems when all of a sudden there was a huge jerking motion that felt like we ran into something even though we didn't. We stopped immediately and got a tow truck. It ended up being the ac compressor and serpentine belt that needed replaced, although mazda was aware of this problem as they stated in their extended warranty that it had "defect in workmanship or materials," the warranty was only extended to 5 years or 60,000 miles. My mazda was 6 years old and had only 48,000 miles but wasn't covered because it was a year passed the warranty even though the miles were still under. We ended up paying $2,000.00 to fix it as well as another $300.00 to stay in a motel for 5 days. Ever since the day that the car broke and had the huge jerking movement, by back has hurt everyday since then. It especially didn't help that i was almost 5 months pregnant and although nothing happened to the baby, i'm hoping there was no permanent damage to my back since i've never had back pain or problems since before this incident. I didn't know who else to contact about this but i think this is a huge problem and mazda needs to fix it before more people get hurt, especially because they already know this is a problem which is why the extended their warranty. *tr

2011 CX-7

On 4/18/18 - while driving vehicle, all of a sudden and with no warning, pushing gas pedal, it reved up into gear, stayed there and then all of a sudden banged into next gear and proceeded to do the same through the remaining gears. Then the at light illuminated. I turned the car around and drove back to the office (this was at lunch time). When i left the office for the evening, the car now would not go into reverse. I ended up having it towed to a transmission shop. I was told that it needed a new transmission. Now i would probably be inclined to agree but the car does not even have 65k miles on it!!! Everyone i have talked to said that is not normal for a transmission to go with that few miles on it. Something is very wrong here.

2011 CX-7

Car was stationary at the time. I was attempting to back out of a driveway, and the car would not engage into reverse. I was able to push it out and drive it to smithaven mazda. This car was able to run in drive but would bog down when the transmission would try to shift. The dealership was closed at the time and the next day i spoke to the service manger at mazda and he performed a diognostic on the car. He called later that day to inform me that the transmission was blown and the cost to replace it would be $4,300. This car has 72,000 miles on it and was purchased new in 2011. The car has been serviced at the dealership and every recomended repair and scheduled maintenaince was performed. I am interested in contacting mazda of america to complain about a failed transmission on a car that was well maintained and was not driven abusively.so far i have had repair estimates from $3,000 to $4,300 at the dealership. I have read of complaints of transmission falures with other mazda cx7 owners. Mazda should be held responsible for this defective car part , considering a car that was very well maintained at the dealer. Mazda offered no apology or explanation as to why this transmission would fail on a car with this mileage and maintenance record.

Drive side front tire came off while driving about 20 mph. Ball joint separated. Car slide hit cub and tire on passenger side was hit and blew out. There is recall on ball joint. I did not get notice.

*tr

2012 CX-7

There are 2 recalls issued on my vehicle. One is the airbags and the other is the lower arm control. I have contacted mazda 4 times and they tell me they do not have parts and don't have a time frame that i can come in and get these issues resolved. Both of these recalls are a safety concern for myself and my children.

2012 CX-7

Takata recall - how long does mazda have to repair this as they keep saying that parts are not available? I live in florida where humidity is very high. Not being able to use the passenger seat is not ideal. What recall do i have and what can i do if its not safe to drive this car? There is also another recall for the steering on my vehicle and parts are not available per the mazda website. What recall do i have on this? Doesn't sound like car is very safe with both of these recalls.

Can a Mazda CX-7 tow? Towing & payload

As an SUV, the Mazda CX-7 is built to tow and haul. The exact maximum towing capacity and payload depend on the engine, drivetrain and whether it has the factory tow package, on a curb weight near 4,008 lb.

What sets your CX-7's tow & payload rating:

  • Engine — a larger or turbocharged engine tows more than the base unit.
  • Drivetrain & axle — 4WD/AWD and the axle ratio shift the rating.
  • Tow package — the factory towing package (hitch, wiring, transmission cooler) raises the max.
  • Payload & GVWR — GVWR caps the combined load; more passengers and cargo lower how much you can tow.

Exact towing capacity, payload and GVWR are added per engine, drivetrain and trim — decode your VIN above, or check the driver's door-jamb and hitch labels. Curb weight from vehicle specifications.
