MONTHS LATER, HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOP FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE FORMER DEALER DID NOT REINSTALL THE HEAT COVER. WITHOUT THE HEAT COVER, THERE IS NO SAFEGUARD TO THE VARIOUS HOSES AND COMPONENTS IN THE ENGINE, WHICH HAS SEVERAL POTENTIAL SAFETY IMPLICATIONS. HE CALLED THE DEALER AGAIN AND WAS ADVISED BY THE MANAGER, TOM WANSTER, THAT HIS HEAT COVER WAS NOT LEFT THERE; HOWEVER, THEY DID LOCATE OTHER HEAT COVERS FOR SIMILAR MODELS. CHANGED ANOTHER SENSOR, LIGHT CAME ON. NOW THEY SAY IT IS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THEY TELL ME IT IS COVERED BY MITSUBISHI FOR 8 YRS. THEY TRY ERTLEY MOTOR WORLD NUMEROUS TIMES AND CANNOT GET THEM TO RESPOND. THEY ARE IN WILKES-BARRE, PA. GIBBONS MGR THEN CONTACTED DOMIANO'S IN ARCHBALD. THEY TO DID NOT WANT TO HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS. WHY IS IT THAT MITSUBISHI DEALERS WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR WARRANTY'S. THIS IS THE 4TH MITSUBISHI I HAVE OWNED, AND NOW THAT I SEE THE SERVICE, IT WILL BE THE LAST. THEY ARE VERY IGNORANT PEOPLE. THEY TREAT YOU LIKE DIRT. VERY ARROGANT. I PURCHASED A 2001 MITSUBISHI MONTERO SPORT USED IN MARCH 2004, ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASE I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH A COMPLAINT OF A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE ENGINE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. I HAVE PROPERLY MAINTAINED MY VEHICLE SINCE DAY ONE AND LEARNED TO LIVE WITH THE KNOCKING NOISE. ON OCT 23, 2005 THE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE KNOCKING NOISE BECAME EXCESSIVE SO I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, WAITED A MINUTE AND RESTARTED. AS I STARTED TO ACCELERATE THERE WAS A LOUD KNOCK AND SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. MITSUBISHI IS CLAIMING THE VEHICLE THREW A ROD DUE TO SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE. THE ARE SAYING THIS WAS DUE TO NEGLECT OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE OWNER, ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE NEVER ONCE ASKED ME FOR RECORDS OF MAINTENANCE, WHICH I HAVE. THEY THEN SAY IT WAS FROM NEGLECT OF THE PREVIOUS OWNER. IN A REPORT I RECEIVED FROM THE DEALERSHIP MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN SITTING THEY SAY "ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO OIL STARVATION". I HAVE RECORDS OF 5 OIL CHANGES IN 18 MONTHS. RIGHT NOW MY VEHICLE IS STILL INOPERABLE AND HAVE A DATE SET WITH THE NATIONAL CENTER OF DISPUTE RESOLUTION. I HAVE A MISTUSBISHI MONTERO SPORT XLS 2001 3.0. NOW I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 2YRS I KEPT UP WITH THE OIL CHANGES AND ALL OF THE OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR THE VEHICLE. NOW THE MOTOR HAD A TAP TO IT. ASK THE HEAD OF THE SHOP IN THE FLORENCE SC AREA AND WAS TOLD THAT ALL USED MONTEROS TAP. SHOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM. NOW AFTER CONTINUING TO DRIVE THE CAR THE TAP GOT LOUDER AND THE OIL CHANGES STILL REMAIN AS RECOMMENDED. WITHOUT ANY REASON OR WARNING THE MOTOR STARTED TO KNOCK LOUDER, THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND FOUND OUT THE KNOCK WAS CAUSED FROM THE OIL NOT GETTING TO THE TOP OF THE MOTOR. NOW AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WASN'T NOR IS THE ONLY ONE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. FROM 20 TO 30 A MONTH WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I HAD ANOTHER MECHANIC CHECK THE CAR ALSO AND FOUND THE OIL PUMP TO BE FAULTY. BUT NOW THE DAMAGE IS EXTREME THE MOTOR BEGAN TO HEAT UP AND THE BAD THING ABOUT IT IS THAT I WAS TOLD THAT IT DIDN'T MATTER IF I TOOK CARE OF THE CAR OR NOT CAUSE IF THE FIRST PERSON DIDN'T TAKE CARE OF THE CAR THAT IT WOULD HAVE STOPPED AT SOME POINT WHILE HAVING THE CAR. *JB

I AM SENDING A COMPLAINT REGARDING A 2001 MONTERO SPORT. THE VIN IS [XXX]. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH IS GOSSETT MITSUBISHI HERE IN MEMPHIS, TN AT LEAST FOUR TIMES SINCE LAST NOVEMBER REGARDING TRANSMISSION ISSUES. SPECIFICALLY, THE PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING IS THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS VERY SLUGGISHLY AFTER I HAVE DRIVEN AROUND 100 MILES STRAIGHT AT ABOUT 70 TO 75 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A REMEDY FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE LAST PROBLEM THAT I HAD WITH MY VEHICLE WAS DURING ANOTHER ROAD TRIP. THIS TIME THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN SHIFTED SLUGGISHLY AND THIS TIME THE TRANSMISSION RAN HOT AND SPEWED OUT TRANSMISSION FLUID WHICH IN TURN CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SMOKE BADLY FOR THE FIRST TIME AND I HAD TO PULL OVER ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS WHICH MADE FOR A LONG TRIP HOME. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND AGAIN THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING MECHANICALLY WRONG. THE SERVICE MANAGER NAMED [XXX] RECOMMENDED THAT I HAVE THEM INSTALL AN AFTER-MARKET CONDENSER TO HELP KEEP THE TRANSMISSION FLUID COOL. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO AGREE TO THIS BECAUSE THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THIS VEHICLE. THIS AFTER-MARKET CONDENSER THAT WAS INSTALLED AT THIS DEALERSHIP IS NOT A MITSUBISHI PRODUCT. WILSON STATED TO ME THAT THIS PRODUCT IS USED MAINLY ON VEHICLES THAT ARE USED FOR TOWING, BUT I HAVE NEVER USED MY VEHICLE FOR TOWING NOR DOES IT HAVE A TOWING PACKAGE. THE DEALERSHIP CHARGED ME $268 DOLLARS FOR THIS PRODUCT INCLUDING LABOR. SO, NOW I HAVE A BRIGHT SILVER TRANSMISSION FLUID CONDENSER JUST BEHIND THE GRILL OF MY MONTERO SPORT. IT IS VERY NOTICEABLE. 2001 MITSUBUSHI MONTERO SPORT...TIE ROD SLEEVE ON PASSENGER SIDE UNEXPECTEDLY CAME APART AS I WAS PULLING OUT FROM PARKING SPACE ONTO BUSY ROADWAY. THIS CAUSED ME TO NOT BE ABLE TO STEER CORRECTLY. MECHANIC REPLACED TIE ROD AND FEELS THAT IT WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AS THREADS WHERE STILL INTACT JUST FITTING WAS NOT PROPER. YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO SCREW TIE ROD TOGETHER AND PHYSICALLY PULL THEM APART BY HAND. HAD THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. BEFORE THIS INCIDENT THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM WITH THE TIE RODS THAT FAILED SO NEEDLESS TO SAY WHEN THEY CAME APART IT WAS A TOTAL SHOCK. I DO HAVE THE OLD PARTS THAT WHERE REMOVED FOR INSPECTION IF NECESSARY. THE REPAIR BILL WAS $285 I WAS HOPING TO BE ABLE TO RECOUP OUR EXPENSES. I'M HOPING YOU CAN ADVISE ME ON HOW TO DO THIS. THE STEERING BOX SHAFT COMPLETELY SNAPPED APART, STEERING WAS LOST AND HAD TO DRIFT INTO A GUARDRAIL TO STOP VEHICLE. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD PART WAS 2100 DOLLARS FOR STEERING. IF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT GOING LESS THAN 15 MPH THE RESULTS WOULD HAVE BEEN A DIASTER. *JB

WAS TAKEN TO TWO SAN ANTONIO BASED DEALERS GILLMAN MITSUBISHI SAN ANTONIO AND NORTHPOINT MITSUBISHI. NORTHPOINT MITSUBISHI DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. ALTHOUGH MITSUBISHI PROVIDES POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WHICH INCLUDES SUSPENSION, DRIVETRAIN TO 60,000 MILES MITSUBISHI CORP DENIED WARRANTY COVERAGE STATING THAT IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. WITHIN A FEW WEEKS OF PURCHASING OUR VEHICLE, WE BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER DUE TO VIOLENT SHAKING FROM THE FRONT END. WE WERE TOLD WE NEEDED 4 BRAND NEW TIRES. BUYING NEW TIRES DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. WITHIN A FEW DAYS WE BEGAN TO HEAR A HUMMING, VIBRATING, AND GROWLING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN YOU HIT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND BROUGHT THE SALES MANAGER FOR A TEST DRIVE TO HEAR THE NOISE. WHEN MY WIFE EXPLAINED THAT SHE WAS SCARED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, THEY ASSURED HER THAT IT WAS NOT A SAFETY HAZARD AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BE FINE TO DRIVE. THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED AND SAID THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE FREE WHEEL VALVE SOLENOID. WE PICKED UP THE TRUCK AND ON OUR WAY HOME THE NOISE RETURNED. WE CALLED THE SERVICE MANAGER AND EXPLAINED THAT THE NOISE WAS STILL THERE AND WE WERE TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN AGAIN AND TAKE THE TECHNICIAN FOR A TEST DRIVE IN IT SO HE CAN HEAR THE NOISE. WHILE ON TEST DRIVE THE TECH ADVISED HER THAT THEY HAD OTHER MONTERO'S THAT MADE THE SAME NOISE AND WHEN THEY CHANGED THE SENSOR IT WENT AWAY. THEN THEY SAID THE "TORQUE" CONVERTER WAS BAD - THEY CHANGED IT BUT IT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM, THEN THEY DRAINED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. THEN WE WERE TOLD THEY MIGHT HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DRIVE SHAFT. THEY NEVER CHANGED THE DRIVE SHAFT BUT INSTEAD REPLACED THE LEFT HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY. MY WIFE PICKED UP THE VEHICLE 2 DAYS LATER AND THE NOISE WAS GONE BUT THE ENGINE WAS "JUMPING" EVERY TIME SHE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. RIGHT SIDE OF CAR SUDDENLY DROPPED WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN FROM A STOP LIGHT. DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF CAR RUNNING INTO RIGHT SIDE CURB NO INJURIES. AFTER COLLISION THE WHEEL WAS AT AN ANGLE AND JOINT AT THE RIGHT UPPER CONTROL ARM WAS LOOSE AT THE HUB. ALSO, THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL RIM WAS BROKEN AND THE REAR TIRE HAD BECOME FLAT. I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY FRIEND AND I NOTICED AN ANTIFREEZE SMELL AND THE WINDSHIELD STARTED TO FOG. WE BOTH WORK ON CARS FOR A LIVING AND WE BOTH KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS. THE HEATER CORE. WHAT SURPRISED ME WAS THAT MY CAR ONLY HAS 35K MILES ON IT AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER SEEN A HEATER CORE FAIL WITH SO LITTLE MILES ON IT. THE PART COST ME $200 AND THE LABOR, WHICH I WAS THANKFULLY ABLE TO PERFORM, TOOK THE BETTER PART OF A DAY. THE CAR'S COMPUTER IS LOCATED BENEATH THE HEATER CORE BUT LUCKILY I CAUGHT IT IN TIME OR IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BY STALLING THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY. On multiple occasions, the horn itself will start blowing without command. After pressing the horn to alert another driver, the horn will then stick again. There are repairs where 3m tape is applied to the horn switch behind the airbag, however it is not a professional repair and looks like it could potentially cause the horn to blow without command again.

After googling and doing a little reaching I found out it is a very common problem amongst these vehicles that the horn starts blaring in the early morning hours non stop until unplugging the fuse or battery. I have to remove the fuse therefore I’m unsafe knowing that I’m driving without any communication with other vehicles. It is a very expensive repair that most people can’t afford so they’re left doing what I learned to do which puts a lot of people in danger. Please help with this safety concern.

ON 9/4/2017 AT APPROXIMATELY 615AM THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. 10 MINUTES LATER OUR PUPPY WAS BARKING AT THE DOOR LEADING TO GARAGE. HUSBAND WENT TO SEE WHY AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE DOOR. HE OPENED THE DOOR AND THE GARAGE WAS FILLED WITH BLACK SMOKE AND THERE WAS A FIRE ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. CONSEQUENTLY THIS LED TO MY ENTIRE HOME BURNING DOWN.

THE CAR/SUV STILL RUNS LIKE NEW, IT PASSES INSPECTION ,EVERY TIME ! IT NEVER FAILED INSPECTION. WHEN I TOOK THE VECHILE TO FIRESTONE THRE MANAGER DIDN'T EVEN WANT IT ON THE LIFT STATING HE DIDN'T WANT HIS MEN TO GET HURT IF THE FRAME DECIDED TO BRAKE. HE WOULD NOT WORK ON THE CAR ANYMORE AND TOLD ME TO GET RID OF IT, I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND BUT AFTER EYEING FOR MYSELF AND EXPERIENCING THE TIRE DROP OUT OF ITS WELL. I FEEL THE FRAME SHOULD HAVE LASTED A LOT LONGER, IT HAS SOME BODY RUST AROUND THE WHEEL WELLS . IT'S PAID FOR AND RUNNING I NEVER MISSED A BEAT WITH THE OIL CHANGES ETC. DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P0125 IS DISPLAYED INDICATING INSUFFICIENT COOLANT TEMPERATURE, EVEN THOUGH ACTUAL COOLANT TEMPERATURE IS WITHIN NORMAL RANGE OF 200 TO 215 DEGREES. REPLACEMENT OF COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSORS (2) AND THERMOSTAT WILL NOT RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM! I PURCHASED A 2001 MITSUBISHI MONTERO SPORT FROM JACK TAYLOR ALEXANDRIA TOYOTA. ON SEPTEMBER 09, 2002, I EXPERIENCED TROUBLE WITH MY VEHICLE ON THE WAY BACK FROM OUR SOUTH CAROLINA VACATION. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IT STARTED HESITATING, SMOKING HEAVILY AND THE A/T TEMP LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. UNFORTUNATELY, THE STATIONS SERVICE AREA WAS CLOSED, BUT WE WERE ABLE TO PURCHASE TRANSMISSION WE ADDED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AS RECOMMENDED AND LET THE CAR COOL DOWN. FINALLY, AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR THE VEHICLE STARTED UP, THE A/T TEMP LIGHT WENT OUT AND THE CAR WAS NO LONGER SMOKING. I CALLED THE REPRESENTATIVE BACK AND ADVISED HIM THAT THE TRUCK SEEMED TO BE FINE, THEREFORE WE WERE GOING TO TRY AND MAKE IT HOME. HE SUGGESTED THAT I SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE CHECKED. I CONTACTED THE DARCARS DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND SPOKE TO A MR. WILLARD WHO SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR MY CAR. AFTER THE TECHNICIAN CHECKED THE VEHICLE, THE ONLY PROBLEM THEY COULD FIND WAS THAT THE CAR WAS 2 QUARTS OVERFILLED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID AND NO OTHER PROBLEMS. MILEAGE WAS 35346. ON OCTOBER 21, 2003, I HAD AN OIL CHANGE PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE AT JIFFY LUBE WHILE DRIVING HOME THE TRUCK STARTED TO HESITATE, MAKING A LOUD KNOCKING AND TICKING SOUND, THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE STARTED LOOSING ACCELERATION PRESSURE. I CALLED THE MANAGER MIKE AT JIFFY LUBE WHO SERVICED MY VEHICLE AND PERFORMED THE SERVICE, I TOLD HIM EXACTLY WHAT THE TRUCK WAS DOING AND HE STATED THAT HE COULD NOT TELL ME WHY IT WAS DOING THIS BUT THAT THE TRUCK SHOULD HAVE PLENTY OF OIL IN IT. I'D NOTICED PREVIOUSLY MY CAR WOULD SHAKE AS IF IT WAS GOING TO FALL DEAD, BUT WOULDN'T OR THERE WOULD BE A THUMP LIKE SOMEONE HAD HIT ME AND THE CAR WOULD MOVE SLIGHTLY. THIS WOULD ONLY HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AT A LIGHT/STOP SIGN OR IF I WAS WAITING TO MAKE A TURN. ON YESTERDAY, AFTER TAKING MY CAR IN FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AND HAVING THAT MAINTENANCE COMPLETED, I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP. ON MY WAY HOME, I WAS WAITING TO TURN INTO A PARKING LOT CAR SHOOK AS IF IT WERE ABOUT TO FALL DEAD ,THEN LUNGED FORWARD. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO ALERT THEM AND ADVISED THEM THAT THE INCIDENT FRIGHTENED ME. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT ANOTHER WOMAN WITH THE SAME TYPE OF CAR HAD REPORTED A SIMILAR INCIDENT AND HAD TO BRING HER CAR IN AND THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE HER ENGINE. I WAS TOLD AT THIS TIME, THEY BELIED IT MIGHT BE THE TORQUE CONVERTER. I DROVE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD KEEP THE CAR, AND A TECHNICIAN WOULD DRIVE IT TO SEE IF THE SAME THING OCCURRED. I CALLED TODAY 3/19/01 AND WAS TOLD BY GARY, THAT THE TECHNICIAN DROVE THE CAR FOR 1 HOUR AND NOTHING HAPPENED. THEN OUT OF THE BLUE , THE SAME THING I DESCRIBED HAD OCCURRED. MY 2001 MITSUBISHI MONTERO (FULL SIZE XLS) IS MAKING LOUD SOUNDS WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES. I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE HYDRAULIC BRAKES BOOSTER ACCUMULATOR. WHEN THE CAR WAS STILL VERY NEW THIS RECALL WAS CONDUCTED AND MY VEHICLE WAS "FIXED" ACCORDING TO DEALER RECORDS. NOW I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN AND THE DEALER AND MITSUBISHI MOTORS SAY IT IS MY PROBLEM NOW. IF THEIR RECALL DOES NOT WORK THEN THEY SHOULD BE LIABLE, NOT ME. I AM A SECOND OWNER OF A 2001 MITSUBISHI MONTERO SPORT THAT I PURCHASED FROM A MITSUBISHI DEALERSHIP. THE ORIGINAL OWNER WAS NOTIFIED OF A RECALL FOR THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC FOUNDATION COMPONENTS AND SUBSEQUENTLY HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED IN 2001. TWO WEEKS THE VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING FROM BOTH MITSUBISHI CORPORATE OFFICES AND MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP THAT THEY ARE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RECALL AS THEY COMPLIED WITH THE INITIAL REPAIR. I HAVE HAD AN ISSUE WITH MY TRUCK BECAUSE THE HORN QUIT WORKING SEVERAL YEARS AGO. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES THAT THE AIRBAG HAS A METAL RING INSIDE OF IT THAT MAKES CONTACT TO ACTIVATE THE HORN WHEN PRESSED. THEY CLAIMED THE RING HAS EITHER DETERIORATED OR BROKEN INTERNALLY AND THAT IS WHY THE HORN DOESN'T WORK AND IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE FOR YEARS WITH THESE TRUCKS. THE HORN RANDOMLY SOUNDS OFF DURING THE NIGHT. I'VE DISCOVERED ITS A TEMPERATURE THING. WHEN ITS COLD OR THE INTERIOR COOLS DOWN THE HORNS STARTS TO BLOW, BUT WHEN WARM EVERYTHING IS FINE. THE HORN HONKS AND LIGHTS FLASH UNTIL THE ALARM IS RESET OR UNTIL THE BATTERY DIES. 3) FUSES REMOVED BUT ALARM STILL OPERATES. HORNS DISCONNECTED BUT LIGHTS STILL FLASH. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO TURN OFF THE ALARM OR DISABLE THE ALARM WITHOUT ALSO TURNING OFF THE HORN. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 MITSUBISHI MONTERO SPORT. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE CONTACT APPLIED MINIMAL PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT APPLIED REPEATED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES UNTIL THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECREASE IN SPEED. HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. WHEN HE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE IT EXHIBITED THE SAME FAILURE WITHOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL BEING ENGAGED. THE CONTACT THEN DISCONNECTED AND RECONNECTED THE BATTERY IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY RELATED COMPLAINTS AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 157,419.

I WAS TRAVELING THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE TO ORLANDO FROM BOCA RATON ON VACATION. AS I APPROACHED THE ORLANDO TOLL PLAZA, I SLOWED DOWN AND EVENTUALLY CAME TO A STOP IN ORDER TO PAY MY TOLL. BEFORE I COULD EVEN ROLL MY WINDOW DOWN TO HAND THE TICKET IN, MY CAR LUNGED FORWARD AND BEGAN SHAKING AS IF IT WAS GOING TO STALL. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I HAD BEEN REAR-END BECAUSE MY SON WAS IS TEN LET OUT A SCREAM. THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD SO FAR THAT I HAD TO BACK UP TO PAY THE TOLL. I CONTACTED THIS DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR TWO (2) DAYS AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY CLAIM THAT THE CAR WAS PUT ON THE COMPUTER AND THAT ALL THESE TESTS WERE RUN BUT NOTHING SHOWED UP. SINCE THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, I PICKED UP THE CAR AND DROVE IT BACK TO BOCA RATON. THE CAR CONTINUED TO DO THIS PERIODICALLY SO I LIMITED THE DRIVING OF THE VEHICLE. ON JULY 13, 2002, I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND WHEN I WENT TO EXIT AND CAME TO A STOP, I WAS ALMOST REAR-END THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD, SHOOK, AND FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL OUT. FIRE HAZARD, AND IT WAS RECOMMENDED BY AUTO MASTERS TO HAVE IT FIXED FOR SAFETY REASONS. IT LEAKS WHEN IT IS RUNNING DUE TO THE BUILT UP PRESSURE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 MITSUBISHI MONTERO SPORT. THE CONTACT OBSERVED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF FUEL SPILLING FROM THE LOWER PORTION OF THE FUEL TANK. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE WELD ZONE OF THE LOWER PORTION OF THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED ON TWO ADDITIONAL OCCASIONS. THE FUEL TANKS WERE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,222 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

IN JAN. MY WIFE STARTED TO GET A WHIFF OF GASOLINE EVERY NOW AND THEN WHEN SHE GOT OUT OF HER 2001 MONTERO SPORT. IT WAS NOT ENOUGH TO AROUSE SUSPICION. IN THE WEEK OF 3/27/06, THE SMELL BECAME SEVERE. I FOUND GAS RUNNING DOWN THE GAS TANK, DRIPPING ONTO A HOSE RUNNING BELOW IT, AND TO THE GROUND. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED AT VACHON MITSUBISHI ON THURS., 3/30/06. I WAS CONTACTED BY VACHON AND TOLD THAT THE TANK WAS ROTTED AT THE SEAM AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. I ASKED IF THIS WOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY AS THE CAR WAS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND HAD 44,000 MI. VACHON INFORMED ME THAT IT WOULD NOT BE UNDER WARRANTY. THE REPAIR WOULD COST $1083. I CALLED MITSUBISHI TO QUESTION THE WARRANTY AS I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A GAS TANK WEARING OUT SO QUICKLY. THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT MIGHT BE COVERED UNDER THE 7 YEAR/100,000 MILE CORROSION WARRANTY. I CONTACTED VACHON AND HAD THEM LOOK INTO IT. IT WAS DISCUSSED WITH REGIONAL MANAGEMENT AND THEY DECIDED THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED, IT WOULD BE PART OF THE EXPIRED EMISSIONS WARRANTY. I AGAIN CALLED CUST. SERVICE. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS FAILURE WAS TOO FAR OUT OF SORTS TO BE OUT OF WARRANTY. GAS TANKS LAST 20 TO 40 YEARS AND THIS DECISION SHOULD BE RECONSIDERED. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE REVIEWED. I WAS AGAIN REFUSED. I ASKED THAT A HIGHER LEVEL OF MANAGEMENT REVIEW THE CASE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE DONE AND SOMEONE WOULD GET BACK TO ME. 5 DAYS LATER, I CALLED BACK BECAUSE NOBODY CALLED ME. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CASE WAS REVIEWED AGAIN AND AGAIN THEY DECIDED AGAINST ME. MY CASE NEVER GOT TO A HIGHER LEVEL OF MANAGEMENT, IT WAS DECIDED BY MR. TESSMER, THE REGIONAL PARTS AND SERVICE MANAGER EVERY TIME. I ASKED IF I COULD SPEAK TO MR. TESSMER. THE ANSWER WAS NO. AT THIS POINT THE CAR IS FIXED. IT WILL COST ME $1100.06 TO PICK IT UP, MORE THAN THE PRICE QUOTE. MY WIFE AND 7 YEAR OLD HAD BEEN COMPLAINING OF FREQUENT HEADACHES. DT: THE CONTACT STATES SHE OWNS A 2001 MITSUBISHI MONTERO SPORT. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF THE BRAKES NOT WORKING. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THEY WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS PUMPING THE BRAKES TO TRY TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP, BUT IT WOULD NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS CAUSED THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WSTOPPED IN FRONT OF CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE MANUFACTURER SAID THAT THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BRAKES. ALSO, SHE STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT COMPLETELY DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE BRAKE OR THE AIR BAG FAILURES. *AK

WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED THE RATTLING NOTED IN THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS NOTED. THE ALUMINUM BRACKET HOLDING THE COMPRESSOR WAS REPLACED WITH A CAST IRON BRACKET. WE HAVE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE DOES NOT COOL DOWN WHILE OPERATING THE AIR CONDITIONING NOW. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A DEALERSHIPS SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON SEVERAL OCCASSIONS TO BE TOLD IT IS COOLING. IT IS ALMOST AS THOUGH THE VENTS DO NOT OPEN TO ALLOW THE COOLED AIR TO FLOW IN. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED MITSUBISHI'S DIAMOND CARE SERVICE NUMBER TO BE TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO HELP. Brake lines completely rusted through and I lost all brakes while heading to work, thankfully I was able to pull the emergency brake to slow down and I coasted through a red light blowing my horn so I was not hit. I bought this vehicle brand new with only 3 miles on it and ever since I initially got it , it began to rust. Clearly it was not rust treated as everything under the body and alot under the hood is rusted. There is even metal inside of the vehicle cabin that is rusted, like the gas cap lever. This vehicle should have been recalled many years ago like the Outlander due to all of the rust the vehicle gets under it causing thing to fail while its being driven. My vehicle just has a little over 100,000 miles on it and it now sits after that brake incident as I am afraid to drive it seeing all of the rust under it. Even the running boards are all rusted underneath. I am sure that everyone with this model vehicle has experienced the same problem but these vehicles are dangerous on the roads due to everything on them rusting .

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 MITSUBISHI MONTERO. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE BATTERY AND BRAKE INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWO TIMES ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT GUIDE PIN FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 225,000.

THIS WEEK I HAVE HAD TWO OCCURRENCES WHERE THE HORN JUST STARTS BLARING AND WON'T STOP. ONCE WAS IN THE AFTERNOON, AND THE OTHER WAS AT 5:00 AM. MY ONLY DIY ALTERNATIVES ARE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY (OBVIOUSLY CAN'T USE THE VEHICLE), OR REMOVE THE FUSE (VERY UNSAFE). THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, NO WEATHER PROBLEMS, TEMPERATURE WAS MILD (AROUND 70 DEGREES). PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING, THE HORN RARELY WORKED AT ALL; AT LEAST NOT WHEN I WANTED IT TO WORK. I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM AND IT APPEAR TO BE VERY WIDESPREAD ON THIS VEHICLE. FROM WHAT I HAVE FOUND OUT, IT INVOLVES REMOVING THE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY, SO GETTING IT FIXED IS VERY COSTLY (OVER $1000). I EXPECT TO SPEND SOME MONEY ON A FEW ITEMS HERE & THERE ON A 16 YEAR OLD VEHICLE, BUT I DON'T EXPECT TO SPEND OVER $ 1000 ON A VEHICLE JUST TO MAKE THE HORN WORK RIGHT.

I HAVE A 01' MITSUBISHI MONTERO SPORT XLS 3.0L AS OF THE LAST WEEK IN MARCH I HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY A/C AND CALL AUTO REPAIR SHOP TO MAKE A APPOINTMENT. TO MY SURPRISE THE MITSUBISHI/SATURN SHOP, THE PLACE THAT I HAD TAKEN IT TO 6MTHS TO A YEAR BE4, MY OXYGEN SENSOR TO BE REPLACED AND SOME OTHER THINGS, WAS GONE OUT OF BUSINESS. SO I CALL WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM, AND WAS TOLD THAT I COULD GOTO A LICENSED MECHANIC SHOP TO GET MY A/C FIXED, OXYGEN SENSOR HAD DEFAULT AGAIN, BUT IT STILL HAD WARRANTY ON IT WITH THE PREVIOUSLY SHOP SO THE RECENT SHOP COULD NOT REPLACE IT AND I ALSO STILL HAD WARRANTY COVERAGE WITH THE CREDIT UNION THAT I PAY MONTHLY PAYMENTS TO. SO I CALLED THE WARRANTY GROUP, AND THE WARRANTY GROUP PAID FOR A/C TO BE FIXED AND I ONLY HAD TO PAY 100 DEDUCTIBLE. SO I GOT IT TOWED BACK TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND I HAD TO GET MY ENGINE REPLACED. THE WARRANTY GROUP PAID FOR THE PRE-USED ENGINE, AND I RECEIVED MY SUV BACK ON 6-11-10. DT: CONTACT STATED EVERYTHING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WAS RUSTED, AND GOING TOWARD THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE SERVICE STATION. THE INSIDE OF THE LEFT WHEEL WELL CRACKED, CAUSING THE WHEEL BEARING TO BREAK, AND THE DRIVESHAFT TO SLIP DOWN, CAUSING THE GEARS TO GRIND IN THE DRIVSHAFT, SENSORS FOR THE WHEEL WELL, AND THE COMPONENTS OF THE AXLE ASSEMBLY WERE RUSTED. WHEN THE MECHANIC WAS TAKING THE BOLTS FROM THE INSIDE OF THE DRIVESHAFT TO REPLACE IT, THE BOLTS DISINTEGRATED. MECHANIC STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT SPRAY THE RUST CORROSION PROTECTION ON THE VEHICLE. IT HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED YET, BUT THE CONSUMER WAS GOING TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE SERVICE DEALER TO BE SERVICED. CONSUMER DID CONTACT MITSUBISHI, BUT THE WARRANTY WAS NOT VALID OVERSEAS. LAST YEAR IN NOVEMBER OF 2005, I HAD TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL HUB BEARING BECAUSE THE BEARINGS INSIDE THE HUB BROKE DOWN. PRIOR TO GETTING IT REPLACED, LOUD METALLIC GRINDING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE WHEEL AREA. I TOOK THE HUB BEARING APART AND FOUND THAT THE BEARINGS WERE DAMAMGED AND NO SIGN OF GREASE INSIDE OF THE HUB BEARING. NOW, ON MAY 5, 2005, I HAVE THE SAME KIND OF PROBLEM AND I INSPECTED THE HUB BEARING BY TAKING IT APART AND DISCOVERED THE BEARINGS WERE DAMAGE. THIS LED TO MY CONCLUSION THAT IT MUST HAVE BEEN A PRODUCT DEFECT AND NOT A COINCIDENCE. I DRIVE MY VEHICLE FROM HOME TO WORK NORMALLY AND NEVER HAVE ABUSE THE USE OF THE VEHICLE LIKE TAKING IT OFFROAD FOR A JOY RIDE. IT IS A 2001 FULL SIZE LIMITED MITSUBISHI MONTERO. IT HAS TO BE IN SOMETHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH THE STEERING OR I GUESS SUSPENSION. I HAVE HAD THE RIGHT FRONT HUB ASSEMBLY REPLACED, NEW TIRES AND A BRAKE JOB THAT I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAVE DONE ON THE TRUCK AND I STILL HAVE THE NOISE THAT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY THE DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN. WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHT, THE CAR HAS LOUD HUM. WHEN I STEER TO THE RIGHT AND THE WEIGHT OF THE TRUCK SHIFTS TO THE LEFT, THE NOISE GOES AWAY. WHEN I STEER TO THE LEFT AND THE WEIGHT OF THE TRUCK SHIFTS TO THE RIGHT, THE NOISE GETS LOUDER. I HAVEN'T NOTICED ANYTHING YET WITH THE STEERING THAT MIGHT SEEM DANGEROUS, BUT I FEEL VERY UNEASY ABOUT THE CAR. I FEEL LIKE ONE DAY I AM GOING TO BE DRIVING AND SOMETHING WILL JUST SNAP. THE MAIN THING IS I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO KEEP TAKING THE TRUCK TO DEALERSHIPS TO INVESTIGATE WHAT IS GOING ON AND FINDING NOTHING.*JB SECOND, I WAS WONDERING IF THERE IS A STANDARD FOR THE PLACEMENT OF THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDALS WITH RESPECT TO THE PLACEMENT OF THE SEAT. WHEN I PURCHASED THE TRUCK I REALIZED THAT THE SEATING WAS KIND OF WIERD BUT I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT. NOW, AFTER HAVING BEEN SEEN BY SEVERAL DEALERS. BECAUSE OF EXTREME PAIN IN MY BACK, BUT PRIMARILY MY HIPS TO THE POINT OF CONSIDERING SURGERY. THEY ASK IF I HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR FALLEN OR HAD ANY TRAUMA AND I HAVEN'T. THEN I REALIZED THE PAIN DID NOT BEGIN UNTIL I GOT THIS TRUCK AND I PRIMARILY FEEL POORLY WHEN I AM DRIVING AND RIGHT AFTER I DRIVE. SO I REALLY STARTED PAYING ATTENTION TO THE POSITION MY BODY IS IN WHEN I AM DRIVING AND MY LEGS ARE IN A VERY AWKWARD POSITION IN ORDER TO REACH THE PEDALS. THUS MY QUESTION: DO THESE TYPES OF STANDARDS FOR PEDAL PLACEMENT EXIST AND WHERE MIGHT I TAKE MY TRUCK TO HAVE IT MEASURED OR TESTED FOR COMPLIANCE.*JB
