The contact owns a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH over a bump in the road, and the front passenger’s side tie rod was fractured due to a corroded cross member, and the vehicle was undrivable. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the front cross member and tie rod assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact stated that the VIN was included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V458000 (SUSPENSION). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 120,000.

When visiting local dealership for a state inspection it was found the rear subframe of my 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander, 2WD Model XLS has rusted completely through. I an internet search it was found that this was a common occurrence and a highly dangerous issue and it would not pass for a safety inspection. It appears from the number of complaints posted on various message boards it is widely known that this inferior component exists in a number of years for this and other models in the Mitsubishi brand. While its was noted in posting that the Mitsubishi dealership recognized this defect as a recall item, it was not showing up in the NTSB safety recall list for my VIN [XXX] . Please advise as to the investigation into this serious component failure and the recall status via return email. The contact owns a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander. The contact stated that while making a left turn at 10 MPH, the steering wheel jerked violently. The vehicle was stopped, and the contact became aware that the tire turned inward. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the front sub frame, drive axle, lower control arm, ball joint, and tie rods needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the front subframe was corroded and the front lower control arms and ball joints needed to be replaced. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE WIRE IN THE FUSE PANEL WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AS WELL AS THE FUSES. ALL POWER OUTLETS IN THE CAR ARE INOPERABLE. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE DEALER 5-6 TIMES TO HAVE THEM ALL RESET. I AM TOLD IT IS FROM USING A PHONE CHARGER (AND I HAVE EVEN TRIED NEW/DIFFERENT PHONE CHARGERS AFTER EACH INCIDENT). ON TUESDAY NOVEMBER 8 2017 MY CAR WENT OUT OF CONTROL. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO MY HOUSE THINKING IT WAS SOMETHING SIMPLE MY HUSBAND COULD FIX. HE LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND CHECKED EVERYTHING OUT. HE FOUND THAT MY FRONT CROSS MEMBERS HAVE COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT. I LOOKED UP RECALLS ON MY CAR TO SEE IF THERE WAS ONE AND I FOUND IT. IT SAYS THAT THE RECALL IS INCOMPLETE. TOOK MY 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER XLS V-6 TO DEALERSHIP FOR SEVERAL RECALLS INCLUDING RECALL NO. 16V-458 / SR-16-003 ON MAY 05, 2018. I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD IT DID NOT REQUIRE THE CROSS MEMBER REPLACEMENT AND THE ANTI CORROSION SPRAY WAS PERFORMED. AROUND 7:00 PM EDT SATURDAY, MARCH 23, 2019 WHILE ENTERING A EXIT LANE ON US 119 NORTHBOUND AT THE GREEN ROAD EXIT, MY CAR MADE A LOUD GRINDING SOUND AND STARTING PULLING VERY HARD TO THE LEFT AND CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10-15 FEET. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ENTERING THE TURN LANE AND WAS SLOWING DOWN OR IT COULD HAVE EASILY FORCE ME INTO THE MEDIUM DIVIDER OR EVEN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I COULD NOT MOVE THE VEHICLE FORWARD AND PUT MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS ON TO AVOID BEING REAR ENDED BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I WAS VERY CONCERNED AS I HAD MY 3 YEAR OLD GRAND DAUGHTER WITH ME AND IT IS A VERY CONGESTED AREA. I TRIED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF I COULD DETERMINE WHAT WAS WRONG. THE DRIVER DOOR HAD TO BE FORCED OPEN AS I LATER DISCOVERED AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE THAT THE FROM LEFT FENDER HAD BEEN PUSHED BACK INTO THE DOOR AREA BY THE FRONT TIRE. AFTER A QUICK INSPECTION IT APPEARED THE CONTROL ARM BROKE. AFTER REMOVING THE TIRE, IT WAS EVIDENT THAT THE CROSS MEMBER HAD SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE DUE TO EXTREME CORROSION CAUSING THE LOSS OF CONTROL AND ABRUPT STOP. THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM I HAD TAKEN IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECALL AND WAS TOLD MINE DID NOT NEED REPLACED. I AM ATTACHING PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE TO SHOW THE MISSING AND BROKEN CROSS MEMBER. THERE IS NO WAY THIS CORRODED TO THE FAILURE POINT SINCE THE RECALL REPAIR WAS ALLEGEDLY COMPLETED. FURTHER MORE, IF TREATING THE AREA WAS SUPPOSEDLY SUFFICIENT TO PREVENT FURTHER CORROSION (AS OPPOSED TO THE REPLACEMENT OF THE CROSS MEMBER), THIS FAILURE SHOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN PLACE. THEREFORE, EVERY CROSS MEMBER SHOULD BE REPLACED!

SIDE VIEW MIRRORS I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN, AVERAGE HEIGHT 5'3". I HAVE CONTACTED MITSUBISHI MOTORS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS ON MY CAR, TO WHICH THEY RESPONDED 'THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS MEET U.S. SAFETY STANDARDS'. I HAVE BEEN TERRIBLY CONCERNED ABOUT MY MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER'S OVERSIZED SIDE VIEW MIRRORS, BOTH ON THE DRIVER AS WELL AS PASSENGER SIDES. THEY ARE NOT ONLY AWKWARDLY PLACED, HEIGHTWISE, BUT ARE ALSO HINGED IN A WAY THAT CREATES HUGE BLIND SPOTS ON BOTH SIDES. THEY OBSCURE MY VISION, CREATING BLIND SPOTS WHEN CHANGING LANES, WHEN MAKING TURNS, AT PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS. I HAVE TO STOP FOR SEVERAL MINUTES TO CLEAR BOTH SIDES, IN ADDITION, I HAVE TO RAISE MYSELF IN MY SEAT TO CLEAR THE HEIGHT OF THE MIRRORS. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY HEATER SINCE THE TIME I BOUGHT MY CAR. I CURRENTLY OWN A 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER. THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING DEALS WITH THE POOR INSIDE HEATING OF MY VEHICLE. FOR EXAMPLE, ONCE MY VEHICLE IS WARMED UP AND I AM DRIVING ALONG THE ROAD, I AM ABLE TO FEEL VERY HOT AIR COME OUT OF THE VENTS. HOWEVER, ANYTIME I STOP SOMEWHERE SUCH AS AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, THE HEAT IMMEDIATELY DISAPPEARS AND FEELS LIKE FRIDGE AIR COMING THROUGH THE VENTS. ONCE I REV THE ENGINE UP, THE HOT AIR RETURNS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH BECAUSE IF I AM STUCK ON THE HIGHWAY DURING A WINTER STORM, I DO NOT BELIEVE MY CAR WILL PUT OUT ENOUGH HOT AIR TO KEEP ME WARM. THE AIR IS NO WHERE WARM ENOUGH TO EVEN MELT THE SNOW AND ICE LET ALONE THE FOG. BIG SAFETY PROBLEM IF I HAVE TO STOP SOMEWHERE AND I AM UNABLE TO DEFROST THE FOG ON MY WINDSHIELD. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO TWO SEPARATE MITSUBISHI SERVICE CENTERS AND THEY HAVE TRIED SEVERAL COMPUTER UPDATES, TESTS, AND TRIED REPLACING THE ENGINE HEATER DOOR, WITH NO REAL OUTCOME. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS THE WAY SOME OF THE 2007 MODELS WERE DESIGNED. THE SERVICE REP SPECIFICALLY TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A DESIGN FLAW. I HAVE CONTACTED MITSUBISHI CORPORATE AND WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE IS RUNNING THE WAY IT WAS DESIGNED. THEY WILL NOT REIMBURSE ME TOWARDS A NEW VEHICLE OR DO ANYTHING TO TRY AND FIX THE PROBLEM. The contact stated that the vehicle had been gifted to her grandson by his father, however when the vehicle was being inspected the contact noticed that the rear tail lights had not illuminated when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V564000 (Exterior Lighting), however the vehicle was not part of the VIN selection. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.

THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER LS SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT ON A COUNTRY ROAD. THE HIGH BEAMS WORKED FINE. I HAD TO LEAVE THEM ON WHEN I WAS CROSSING OTHER CARS, WHICH CAUSED THE OTHER DRIVERS TO FURIOUSLY FLASH THEIR HIGH BEAMS ON AND OFF AT ME. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY! TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MITSUBISHI DEALER WHO FIRST CHECKED THE FUSES, THEN TRIED TO FIX THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH NEXT TO THE STEERING WHEEL, WHICH DID NOT HELP. THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT CHARGE ME FOR THE SWITCH SINCE IT DID NOT DO THE TRICK. ON A THURSDAY MORNING, I WAS ASKED TO LEAVE THE CAR WITH THEM FOR AT LEAST ONE DAY, POSSIBLY TWO SO THAT THEY COULD DO AN "IN-DEPTH" INVESTIGATION AND CHECK IF IT WAS A WIRING PROBLEM. I HAD TO RENT A CAR TO HAVE TRANSPORTATION. ON FRIDAY AT 5 PM, I RECEIVED A CALL THAT THEY FINALLY FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM AND IT HAD TO DO WITH A "SMART FUSE BOX" OR "ETACS", THAT IT WAS AN EXPENSIVE PART AND THEY DID NOT HAVE IT IN STOCK, SO I WOULD NOT GET MY CAR BACK UNTIL WEDNESDAY OF THE FOLLOWING WEEK! I ASKED HOW MUCH THE REPAIR WOULD COST AND WAS QUOTED $1,300! I SAID GIVE ME THE CAR BACK TONIGHT AND I'LL COME BACK WHEN THE PART COMES IN. WAS TOLD IT WOULD THEN COST EVEN MORE IN LABOR, BECAUSE IT WAS TAKEN APART AND WOULD NEED TO BE PUT BACK TOGETHER, THEN "OPENED UP" AGAIN! SO NOW I AM PAYING FOR THIS EXORBITANT REPAIR PLUS SEVERAL MORE DAYS FOR THE RENTAL. I SEE THAT MODELS 2009 AND UP HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE, AND AM OUTRAGED THAT THESE TECHNICIANS DID NOT FIGURE THIS OUT IMMEDIATELY, SINCE THEY HAVE DEALT WITH THE PROBLEM BEFORE. I FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT IT SHOULD BE A RECALL MATTER AS WELL FOR THE 2007 MODELS. MY CAR ONLY HAS 75,000 MILES OR SO ON IT AND I WAS HOPING TO DRIVE IT FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER YEAR OR TWO. THE TRANSFER CASE OIL SEAL DISLODGED, AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (AFT) ENTERED THE CASE ASSEMBLY, RESULTING IN POOR TRANSMISSION SHIFTING WITH A STRANGE SOUND. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY RECALL NUMBER 14V365000 (RECALL DATE 06/25/2014). BUT MITSUBISHI CUSTOMER RELATIONS DEPARTMENT DENIED THIS IMPORTANT POWER TRAIN - TRANSFER CASE RECALL, SAYING THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY FOUR RECALLS, NOT INCLUDING THIS RECALL. I PURCHASED MY 2007 MITSUBISHI FROM QUAKERTOWN MITSUBISHI IN APRIL ON 2017. IN THE LAST MONTH MY CAR WILL BE STUCK IN THE PARK POSITION WHEN TRYING TO MOVE OUT OF PARK THE CARE WON'T MOVE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO GET MY CAR LOOKED AT. WHEN I MADE THE APPOINTMENT I WAS NOT TOLD THAT I WOULD BE CHARGED A 59.95 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. I DID NOT PAY THE FEE BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE THE FUNDS. THEY DID REPLACE MY WIPERS PER THE RECALL. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY OTHER PROBLEMS UNTIL NOW. I MAKE MONTHLY PAYMENTS ON THIS CAR AND STILL OWE OVER 9 THOUSAND ON THIS CAR.

THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER WAS A RECALL THAT I HAD DONE, THIS PAST WEEKEND I HAD MY TIRES CHANGED AND THE SHOP SHOWED ME THAT MY REAR CROSSMEMBER IS CRACKED. THE CRACK IS ALONG THE FACTORY WELDING. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE AS I HAD WITH THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER. ALTHOUGH THIS IS A GREAT INCONVENIENCE, IT CAN ALSO BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE DRIVER SPENDS CONSIDERABLY MORE TIME FOCUSING ON THE DIGITAL DISPLAY BECAUSE IT IS DIFFICULT TO READ RATHER THAN ON THE ROAD DURING DIRECT SUNLIGHT PERIODS. MITSUBISHI'S RECALL FOR SUB FRAME CORROSION DOES NOT INCLUDE VEHICLES PURCHASED IN NEBRASKA AS IT ISN'T IN THE NARROWLY DEFINED "SALT BELT" (ALTHOUGH IOWA IS INCLUDED). THE CHECK VALVE "STICKS" CAUSING INSUFFICIENT BRAKING ASSIST RESULTING IN INCREASED RISK OF CRASH. I CHECKED THE PART NUMBERS AT THE DEALER FOR THE DEFECTIVE PART. The contact owns a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the front driver's side A-arm separated from the vehicle and the vehicle stopped abruptly, causing the contact's body to slam against the steering wheel. The contact sustained back pains and received medical assistance. Upon towing the vehicle, the contact noticed that the entire subframe was severally corroded. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where the subframe was replaced. However, the dealer did not replace other corroded components. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle began to leak fluids after the repair was completed. The contact stated while driving 35-40 MPH and making a turn, the brake pedal was depressed but went to the floorboard and failed to respond. The contact engaged the electronic parking brake but it failed to respond. The contact then purposely crashed the passenger's side of the vehicle into the guard rail in order to stop the vehicle. The driver's air bag exploded, propelling burning chemicals that burned the contact's left arm. The contact did not seek medical assistance. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 157,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, BUT COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE IN TIME. AS A RESULT, HE REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS SEAT BELT FAILED TO RESTRAIN HIM AND HE STRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL AND SUN VISOR. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 2,300.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS AND INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS DIMMED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,570.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED, BUT WOULD SHUT OFF AGAIN EACH TIME THE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 4,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,100. THE CONSUMERS WIFE APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT WHEN SHE DID THE VEHICLE STOPPED ABRUPTLY AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AT THE SAME TIME. WHEN SHE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IT HOPPED RATHER THAN ROLLING SMOOTHLY AND THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AGAIN WITHOUT THE ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN. THE BRAKES WORKED FINE THE FIRST TWO TIMES, THEN WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED FOR THE THIRD TIME, THEY LOCKED UP AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AGAIN. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT PROBLEM MAYBE AN ABS ECU MALFUNCTION POSSIBLY IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ESC. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE LEFT FRONT SUSPENSION OR BEARING. UPDATED 06/08/07. *JB

WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WAS 19 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT AND BELOW THE LOW TIRE AIR PRESSURE SENSOR TURNED ON, CAUSING THE WARNING SIGNALS TO TURN ON EVERY TIME THE IGNITION KEY WAS TURNED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FRED BEANS FORD LINCOLN MERCURY MITSUBISHI OF DOYLESTOWN, PA 18901, AND THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE SENSOR FAILURE WAS NORMAL AND CAUSED BY COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS.
