I WAS DRIVING DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD IN THE MORNING, TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 60 DEGREES. THE SUNROOF ON MY 2010 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER WAS NOT OPEN BUT THE SAFETY SCREEN WAS PUSHED BACK. AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD OUT OF NOWHERE I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION. THE NOISE IS WHAT I WOULD DESCRIBE AS A LOUD BANG OR GUNSHOT LIKE SOUND. I COULD FEEL PIECES OF GLASS FALL DOWN ON TOP OF ME. WHEN I LOOKED UP I COULD SEE THAT THERE WAS A SUBSTANTIAL HOLE IN MY SUNROOF AND ALL OF THE GLASS AROUND THE HOLE WAS SHATTERED INTO A MILLION PIECES. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION OF THE GLASS UPON STOPPING MY CAR, IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THE GLASS WAS BROKEN FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR WITH THE GLASS BLOWING PARTIALLY OUTWARD. THERE WAS NO OUTSIDE FORCE THAT CAUSED THIS TO OCCUR.

4/08/2017, MY CAR MADE A NOISE LIKE SOMEONE HAD SHOT OUT MY BACK WINDSHIELD. I WAS STUCK IN TRAFFIC AND I COULD NOT SEE EXACTLY WHAT HAD HAPPENED, NEITHER COULD I EXIT OFF THE INTERSTATE. I WENT ABOUT 20 YARDS AND THEN HEARD ANOTHER EXPLOSION LIKE MY GLASS HAD SHATTERED. I WAS LOOKING AROUND TO SEE IF I COULD SEE ANYTHING,I COULD NOT. I HEARD THE GLASS STILL MOVING, SOMETHING TOLD ME TO SLIDE BACK THE COVER OF MY SUN ROOF A LITTLE. WHEN I DID, I SAW THAT MY SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED. I DID NOT GET INJURED BECAUSE I HAD THE SUNROOF COVER CLOSED. WHAT A NIGHTMARE. THE MITSUBISHI DEALER HAS AGREED TO FIX THE SUNROOF FREE OF CHARGE. MY CAR HAS ONLY 54,000 MILES. The contact stated that after turning the front windshield wipers off, the driver’s side and passenger’s side windshield wipers remained in the upright position. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V791000 (Visibility). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

IT IS NOW 3 MONTHS AND I AM STILL BEING TOLD BY MITSUBISHI CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT THEY STILL DON'T HAVE THE PART TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I THINK I HAVE BEEN MORE THAN PATIENT AFTER WAITING 3 MONTHS. FIRST, ONLY A FEW WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE NEW, THE FUSE BLEW ON THE AUX / CIG LIGHTER. APPROX. ONE YEAR AFTER PURCHASE, I HAD TO TAKE IT IN, BECAUSE ALL THE LIGHTS AND GAUGES WOULD START FLASHING AND THE RADIO WOULD GO OFF. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED RUNNING, BUT IT WAS SCARY. ADDITIONALLY, THE DOOR SOMETIMES WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE WITH THE FOB. THE DEALER CORRECTED THIS PROBLEM. SINCE THEN, STARTING IN JUNE OF 2013, OR EARLIER, WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, THE LIGHTS FREQUENTLY DIM AND GET BRIGHTER, ESPECIALLY IF THE A/C IS ON. I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE MY BATTERY IN NOVEMBER, 2013; IT WAS LESS THAN 3 YRS OLD. THEY TOLD ME THEN (BACK IN NOVEMBER) THEY WERE ORDERING A NEW ALTERNATOR FOR ME (COVERED UNDER WARRANTY). IT IS NOW THE END OF MARCH AND WHEN I CALLED MY LOCAL MITSUBISHI DEALER AGAIN, AND THEY TOLD ME THERE IS A 1,000 UNIT BACK ORDER ON THE ALTERNATORS ON THESE VEHICLES, AND THE NEW, I AM GUESSING REDESIGNED UNIT, WOULD NOT BE OUT UNTIL THE BEGINNING OF MAY. Dealer wants to replace rear lower control arms due to corrosion and the car control arms were never addressed when I took it into the dealer for recall 16V458. The dealer was supposed to add a anti corrosion spray to the control arms in the front and back. The corrosion is very bad with these parts on my car and I am very concerned about safety.

High Point Mitsubishi in High Point NC preformed the recall in regards to rust forming on the underside crossmember of this vehicle. Less than 3 years later this vehicle is immovable because of the exact same reason as the original recall. The technician obviously overlooked areas of which to spray the rust preventative in which caused the structural integrity to completely fail at the front mounting location of the driver side control arm onto the crossmember. This vehicle is not safe to drive any longer because of Mitsubishi's lack of thoroughness in performing and evaluating the situation and the condition of said crossmember. High Point Mitsubishi now insists that the issue was resolved even after clear pictures have been sent showing the clear damage and obvious nature of the reasoning of the recall in the first place but argue that they took care of the recall although obviously the exact issue that the recall was made for is thr reason this vehicle is no longer driveable.

ACCORDING TO SOMEONE WHO WORKS AT A LOCAL MITSUBISHI DEALER, THE 2010 ABS PUMPS ARE FLAWED - MANY VEHICLES HAVE HAD THE PUMP REPLACED. MY MECHANIC SAID IT'S SAFE TO DRIVE, BUT ADVISES TO TAKE EXTRA CARE IN HEAVY RAIN/SNOW/ICE. MEANWHILE THE SERVICE LIGHT REMAINS ON. MY RIGHT REAR WHEEL KEPT MAKING A NOISE. SO I PULLED OFF THE WHEEL TO SEE THE BRAKE PAD WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY GONE. I HAD THEM REPLACED AN THE MECHANIC SAID THE CALIPER WAS STICKING HE ALSO SAID IT SHOULD BE COVERED BY WARRANTY. I TOOK MY 2010 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER IN FOR A NOISE IN THE REAR AND THEY FOUND THE THIRD ROW SEAT ANCHOR BROKEN. MITSUBISHI CLAIMS THAT THE ANCHOR IS BROKEN AND THAT IT IS NON WARRANTY. The contact owns a 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, he heard a cracking sound coming from the sunroof. When the contact exposed the glass portion of the sunroof, the sunroof shattered. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V071000 (Visibility) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

AFTER MY ABS, TCS, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON, I STARTED TO RESEARCH WHAT MY PROBLEM WAS. COME TO FIND OUT THE ABS PUMP MOTOR IS GETTING LOW VOLTAGE RESULTING IN POOR BRAKING AND OVERALL DRIVEABILITY IN ANY WEATHER. IN MY RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY MITSUBISHI'S AROUND THIS YEAR. I WAS COMPLETELY FINE WITH REPLACING THE PARTS BECAUSE THE CAR ISN'T SAFE FOR MY CHILDREN, BUT WHEN LOOKING INTO THE COST OF REPLACEMENT OF SUCH A SMALL PART, I (ALONG WITH MANY OTHER PEOPLE) CAN NOT AFFORD TO SPEND ~$2000 TO MAKE OUR CARS SAFE. IF THIS HAS TRULY BEEN A PROBLEM FOR SO LONG WHY HASN'T MITSUBISHI HANDLED IT YET. THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE THEY HAD ME BRING IT BACK IN AND THEY KEPT IT FOR SEVEN HOUR AND CALLED ME TO COME PICK IT UP THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THEY SAID THERE WAS NO DIMMING AND THE ALTERNATOR IS PUTTING OUT FINE WITH EVERYTHING TURNED ON. MY NEIGHBOR WAS THE FIRST ONE TO COME TO ME AFTER THE ACCIDENT AND HE SAID IT LOOKED AS THOUGH MY BACK WHEELS WERE LOCKED UP. I KNOW NOT TO HOLD THE BRAKES...AND I IMAGINE THAT ALL FOUR BRAKES WOULD HAVE SLID HAD IT BEEN BECAUSE THE BRAKES WERE BEING HELD.
