TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO JERK AND THEN STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS, CRANK POSITION SENSOR, AND THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE MAY STILL NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION, BUT THESE REPAIRS SHOULD BE DONE FIRST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

I AM TOLD THAT I AM EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH MY TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE. AFTER CAREFUL RESEARCH, AND TWO MECHANIC OPINIONS IT HAS BEEN TOLD TO ME THAT NISSAN KNEW THAT THEY HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL OF MAXIMA AND HAS NOT OWNED UP TO THIS PROBLEM. NEITHER HAVE THEY RECALLED OR TRYING RIGHT THEIR WRONG. THESE ITEMS ARE THE LIFE OF THE CAR. I HAVE ALSO CHECKED THE REVIEWS ON EDMUNDS.COM AND THERE ARE SEVERAL OWNERS OF THIS SAME CAR THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUES AND COMPLAINTS. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT MEASURES CAN BE TAKEN AGAINST NISSAN FOR THEM OWN UP TO THESE DEFECTIVE COMPONENTS. IT WILL HURT THEM IN THE LONG RUN IF THEY DO NOT. WITHIN ONE MONTH OF GETTING THE CAR, TRANSMISSION STARTED JERKING. IT WOULD JERK REALLY HARD AND ALMOST RED LINE BETWEEN 1ST, 2ND, AND 3RD GEAR. IT ALSO DOES IT WHEN I TRY TO REVERSE! IT JERKED SO HARD ONE TIME I THOUGHT SOMEBODY HAD HIT THE BACK OF MY CAR! I TOOK IT BACK TO CARMAX (WHERE I ORIGINALLY GOT IT) AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE VALVE. THEY QUOTED 2000.00 TO FIX THE CAR, BUT SINCE I HAD IT FOR LESS THAN 30 DAYS THEY FIXED IT. SEVEN MONTHS LATER I STARTED HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I'M SO FRUSTRATED! I JUST WANT ANOTHER CAR! I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN, EVER! AFTER RESEARCHING AND READING ALL THE REVIEWS, A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS ME WITH THIS CAR. (ALONG WITH OTHER NISSAN MODELS). THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUBFRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.

I AM CONTACTING REGARDING MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA, I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR BOARD IS RUSTED RIGHT THROUGH AND THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN CAN ACTUALLY SEE THE CARPET THROUGH THE HOLE. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD ISSUE THE NISSANS OF THIS AGE AND IT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. IS ANYTHING BEING DONE REGARDING THIS. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF FINDING OUT EXACTLY THE COST OF THIS ISSUE BUT WANTED TO FILE MY COMPLAINT AND SEE IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO OR IF THERE IS ANYTHING BEING DONE ABOUT NISSAN RECALLING THIS ISSUE. I OWN A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA: IN JANUARY ,2009 MY SON WAS DRIVING BACK FROM LUBBOCK TEXAS TO PORTALES NM. THIS IS 110 MILES. MY TIRE A GOODYEAR RS-A 245/45 R18 TIRE WENT FLAT MY SON GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND CHANGED IT IN PITCH DARK. NOT TAKING THE TIME TO LOOK AT THE TIRE IN DEPTH. HE DROVE HOME TO FIND IN THE LATER PART OF HIS TRIP HE DID NOT HAVE ANY BREAKS. HE WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE'S BEADING CAME COMPLETELY OUT. IT LOOKED LIKE IT HAD 45 WIRES HANGING OUT OF THE TIRE. THESE WIRES WERE IN AND OUT OF THE TIRE AND I COULD LITERALLY PICK IT UP BY THE WIRES. THE WIRES (BEADING) WRAPPED AROUND MY BREAK LINES AND CUT THEM COMPLETELY IN HALF, IN ADDITION PULLING THE STEAL MOUNT FOR THE BREAK LINE ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE CARS MOUNT. THIS COULD HAVE KILLED MY SON, PASSENGERS, AS WELL AS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS SAME SITUATION HAPPENED TO ME THREE WEEKS PRIOR. THIS TIME THE TIRE CAME APART FROM THE INSIDE WHERE YOU CAN'T SEE IT, BUT THE BEADING DID NOT COME OUT. WHEN MY SON'S SITUATION HAPPENED, IT TOOK (MY TIRE, $266.00), (WHEEL $800.00) (BREAK LINES $???.00) DAMAGE TO THE INTERNAL MOUNT AND VESSEL $ ???.00 OF MY CAR'.ALL OUT! THIS TIRE IS DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY TAKEN OFF THE MARKET. THERE ARE SO MANY INCIDENCES WITH THIS PARTICULAR TIRE AND IT IS EXTREMELY DEADLY! GOODYEAR RS-A 245/45-R18 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA: SON DRIVING HOME FROM LUBBOCK TEXAS TO PORTALES NM, BACK TIRE HAD FLAT HE CHANGED TIRE AND INSIDE SIDE WALL WAS TORN UP! IT WAS AT NIGHT SO HE DROVE HOME. HE COULD NOT SEE THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE THAT WAS DONE BASED ON LACK OF LIGHT. NEXT MORNING I GOT IN CAR AND I COULD NOT BRAKE. I WAS LUCKY AND MANAGED TO STOP MY CAR. I LOOKED UNDER CAR AND FOUND MOISTURE SLAPPED ALL UP UNDER THE TIRE AREA OF VEHICLE. JACKED CAR BACK UP AND FOUND BRAKE LINE CUT IN HALF. LOOKED IN TRUNK AND FOUND TIRE BLOWN OUT WITH WIRES (RESEMBLING HOT WIRE STICKING OUT OF TIRE SIDEWALL. WIRE WAS COMING OUT. THEY LOOKED LIKE STRINGS... BUT METAL AND LOTS OF THEM! THIS IS THE RADIAL PART OF TIRE? IT WRAPPED AROUND MY AXEL AND AROUND THE BRAKE LINE. IT ALSO PULLED THE SOLID STEAL BRACKET THE BRAKE LINE WAS MOUNTED TO OUT OF PLACE. THE MOUNT WAS PULLED DOWN AND CUT THROUGH THE METAL OF MY CAR BASED ON TENSION OF THE WIRES FROM TIRES PULLING IT DOWN. MY SON COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!!!!!!! OR SOMEONE ELSE. BRAKE LINE, RIM. TIRE ALL RUINED. WHAT WAS THE SCARIEST PART IS SOMEONE COULD HAVE DIED. THIS TIRE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I HAVE 63K ON THIS VEHICLE. HAVE REPLACED ALL TIRES 2 TIMES WHICH MEANS I HAVE GONE THROUGH 12 TIRES. ALMOST ALL TIRES REPLACED DUE TO SIDEWALL FAILURE. TWO MONTHS AGO I REPLACED ANOTHER TIRE BASED ON TREAD FALLING OFF AND WRAPPING AROUND THE AXEL. THESE TIRES NEED TO BE RECALLED THEY ARE GOING TO KILL PEOPLE!!!!! I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER MECHANIC THAT I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY TIMING CHAIN TIGHTENER. THIS PROBLEM WAS FIRST DIAGNOSED MORE THAN A YEAR AGO, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE SOUND IT WAS MAKING WOULD WORSEN WITH TIME, AND THAT I SHOULD GET IT REPLACED BEFORE IT FAILS COMPLETELY. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME HE FEELS A RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLACED ON THIS PART, BUT SO FAR NO SUCH RECALL HAS BEEN MADE. THE PART IS MADE OF CHEAP PLASTIC AND FAILS IN 2005 MAXIMA CARS AFTER ABOUT 65000 MILES. THE PART COST IS ABOUT $50 BUT THE LABOR COST IS ABOUT $1500. THE PROCESS OF REPLACING THE PART REQUIRES TAKING OUT THE ENGINE. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE CAR AND A POORLY DESIGNED PLASTIC PART IS INSTALLED WHICH HELPS CONTROL THE TIMING CHAIN OF THE ENGINE. IF THE PART FAILS EVENTUALLY THE ENGINE WILL FAIL. I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS PROBLEM SHOWED UP AFTER MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THIS REPAIR SHOULD BE PAID FOR BY NISSAN AND NOT BY THE CUSTOMERS. *KB

IT ACTUALLY FEELS AS THOUGH SOMEONE HAS HIT YOU FROM BEHIND. LUCKILY I WAS ALWAYS A DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND/OR NOT CLOSE ENOUGH TO OTHER VEHICLES. SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED FROM A SITUATION SUCH AS THIS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I NEED A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION. THERE ARE MANY, MANY SIMILAR DEFECTS NOTED ON-LINE WITH 04', 05', 06' AND 07' NISSANS. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD BY NISSAN DEALERS THAT NISSAN IS REPLACING TRANSMISSIONS ON 07' MODELS BUT NOT ON THE EARLIER VEHICLES & THAT THERE IS A KNOWN DEFECT IN THEIR VALVE BODY WHICH RESULTS IN FAILED TRANSMISSIONS.

IN PREVIOUS DECADES CARS WERE MADE WITH A TRUNK KEY AND OR MECHANICAL CABLE FOR OPENING. MY 2005 MAXIMA AND MOST RECENT VEHICLES ARE MADE WITH ONLY AN ELECTRONIC BUTTON TO OPEN THE TRUNK. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. RECENTLY MY CAR LOST POWER AT A PRECARIOUS LOCATION AND I HAD NO WAY OF ACCESSING THE TRUNK. MY FLARES, MY BOOSTER CABLES,ALL EMERGENCY TOOLS, SUPPLIES, FIRST AID KIT, FIRE EXTINGUISHER, WATER ALL LOCKED AWAY IN THE TRUNK AND I HAD NO ACCESS TO IT. THIS IS NOT MERELY INCONVENIENT, BUT VERY DANGEROUS. CAR MANUFACTURERS MAY SAY THAT THERE IS ACCESS THROUGH THE BACK SEAT. THIS, HOWEVER, IS TOTALLY INADEQUATE. IT IS VERY CUMBERSOME AND CALL FOR PHYSICAL MANEUVER WHICH IS VERY DIFFICULT, TIME CONSUMING AND SUBJECT TO FAILURE. FIRST IT IS A TASK IN ITSELF TO FIGURE OUT AND TO GET THAT BACK SEAT DOWN. EVEN WHEN DOWN, THERE IS NOT ENOUGH SPACE TO EVEN CRAWL INSIDE AND ACCESS THINGS YOU NEED. FEELING AROUND IN THE DARK WITH YOUR HAND IS NOT EFFICIENT. FURTHERMORE THE APPARATUS TO GET THE TRUNK DOOR OPEN FROM THAT POSITION IS NOT ONLY OBSCURED BUT PHYSICALLY ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO ENGAGE FROM THAT POSITION. I PROPOSE THAT IT BE MANDATED THAT VEHICLES COME WITH A MORE ACCESSIBLE BACKUP, SUCH AS A MECHANICAL CABLE FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR OR KEY LOCK FROM THE OUTSIDE TO OPEN THE TRUNK IN CASE OF POWER FAILURE. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE! ONE SHOULD DEFINITELY BE ABLE TO ACCESS NECESSARY AND EMERGENCY ITEMS FROM THE TRUNK IN CASE OF POWER FAILURE EMERGENCY! THIS MAY SEEM LIKE A TRIVIAL MATTER TO YOU ONLY BECAUSE I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO EXPRESS THE URGENCY OF THE SITUATION AND THE POSSIBLE DEVASTATING EFFECT OF THIS IF IT CONTINUES UNCORRECTED. On June 6th. 2019 my 2005 nissan maxima struck a disabled vehicle left in the middle lane of the Long Island Expressway (a 3 laned highway). Although I was traveling at 60 mph when the collision occurred and struck the disabled vehicle from the rear, the passenger airbag never deployed. This resulted in the passenger receiving significantly more serious injuries than that of the driver (who's airbag did deploy).

APPARENTLY, THE HOLE NEAR THE RIGHT ABS SENSOR IS TOO SMALL FOR THE DUST PARTICLES TO ESCAPE WHICH CLOGS THE ABS AND SHORT CIRCUITS THE ABS MODULE. I HAVE HAD MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS NOW. FOR THE PAST THREE MONTHS IT'S HAS BEEN EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS. WHEN YOU'RE GOING DOWNHILL IT WILL DOWNSHIFT LIKE YOU SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. ALSO IF YOU SWITCH OVER TO MANUAL IT WILL SAY YOU'RE IN 5TH GEAR AND REALLY YOU'RE IN 1ST. THE SERVICE ENGINE DIAGNOSIS READS A CODE FOR THE CAM SHAFT SENSORS. I HAVE CHANGED BOTH OF THEM BANK 1 AND BANK 2 AND IT DID NOT FIX ANYTHING. NISSAN HAS FAILED TO DO ANYTHING AND IT'S HAPPENING TO A TON OF CARS. IF I'M ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR SHUTS OFF, IT NOT GOING TO BE A GOOD SITUATION. IMPROPER BRAKING FUNCTION WITH ABS IN 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA - STARTED WITH NOISE AND "SOFT" BRAKES. IT CONTINUED TO A POINT WHERE THE ABS WAS INCORRECTLY BEING ACTIVATED (EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS OFF). IT SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO A SPEED SENSOR IN THE WHEELS. THIS CONTROLS THE ABS ACTIVATION AND THE SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER. THE SPEEDOMETER HAS STOPPED WORKING. AND DUE TO THE ABS BEING UNDER CONSTANT STRAIN, THE ABS CONTROL MODULE IS GOING TO HAVE TO BE REPLACED.

2005 NISSAN MAXIMA, ON JUNE 27TH GAUGES ALL WENT TO NEGATIVE, FUEL GAUGE SHOWED EMPTY, TEMP SHOWED COLD, TACH AND SPEEDO DID NOT WORK, A/C DID NOT WORK, TURN SIGNALS INSIDE DID NOT WORK BUT OUTSIDE DID. PARTIAL SUNROOF OPERATION. KEPT CAR IN GARAGE, GOT IN CAR ON JUNE 29TH TO TAKE TO DEALER, NOTICED UNUSUAL SMELL, 10 MIN. LATER SMOKE CAME POURING OUT OF CENTER DASH. IMMEDIATELY GOT OUT OF CAR AND DISCONNECTED BATTERY. HAD TOWED TO DEALER, SAID THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE GAUGE CLUSTER AND A/C METERING AMP, LOOKS LIKE IT SHORT CIRCUITED BY COIN THAT SOMEHOW MADE ITS WAY INTO A VENT CREAVIS OF THE SEALED CIRCUIT BOARD. WE HAVE HAD 170,000 MILES OF BASICALLY TROUBLE FREE DRIVING BUT I AM REALLY CONCERNED BECAUSE THEY CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS SOLVES OUR PROBLEM. AS YOU CAN SEE MY WIFE DRIVES ALOT OF MILES IN THIS CAR WITH 8 HOUR TRIPS TO FLORIDA EVERY 6 WEEKS. NOT SURE HOW SHE WOULD REACT TO A SMOKE FILLED CABIN AND WOULD BE CONCERNED IF SHE COULD GET OUT IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND FLAMES UP. THE DEALER SAID IT WOULD NEVER REALLY CATCH FIRE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V512000 (SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:POWER ADJUST). SINCE THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, THE VEHICLE HAS BEGUN TO FAIL AND THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY REPLACED TWO WIRES UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER FOR OVER THIRTY DAYS. THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE MILEAGE INCREASED BY MORE THAN 1,300 MILES AND THE CARPET WAS DYED A DIFFERENT COLOR. SHE ALSO NOTICED HOLES IN THE SUNROOF SLIDER AND DISCOVERED THAT THE DEALER ORDERED A REPLACEMENT WITHOUT HER KNOWING. THE DEALER STATED THAT SINCE SHE WAS DISSATISFIED WITH THE REPAIRS, THEY WOULD HAVE THE MANUFACTURER REPLACE THE SUNROOF LINER. THE DEALER ALSO ORDERED A PART FOR THE STEERING COLUMN AND REPLACED THE BATTERY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE BRAKES BEGAN TO FAIL AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT GEARS. THE BATTERY WOULD NOT HOLD A CHARGE AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST HER IN REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 125,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE SLIP, BRAKE, VDC OFF (TCS OFF) LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATE ON THE VEHICLE DASHBOARD, NOTIFYING THE DRIVER OF THIS PROBLEM. FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO THE PROBLEM DEMONSTRATES THAT THE ABS SENSORS AND/OR ABS ACTUATOR FAIL ON THE VEHICLE DUE TO A DESIGN DEFECT THAT PROMOTES EXCESSIVE RUST ACCUMULATION ON ABS COMPONENTS. MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA STARTED TO SHIFT EXTREMELY HARD. NOT ONLY THAT BUT IN TRAFFIC IT CAN BE VERY SCAREY ALMOST CAUSING YOU TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF YOU OR BEING ALMOST HIT IN THE REAR BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION GETS STUCK AND THEN SHIFTS EXTREMELY HARD. THIS VEHICLE IS USED TO TRANSPORT MY KIDS. I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX NISSANS MISTAKES. TIMES ARE DIFFICULT FINANCIALLY RIGHT NOW. NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THERE MISTAKES. ON JUNE 23, 2009 MY 2005 MAXIMA WAS PARKED IN AN ENCLOSED GARAGE WITHIN MY HOME. ON THAT SAME DATE I ATTEMPTED TO ENTER MY VEHICLE AND WAS GREETED WITH AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF SMOKE UPON OPENING THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. NO FIRE WAS OCCURRING, SO I OPENED ALL CAR DOORS AND GARAGE DOORS TO CLEAR THE SMOKE. WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARED I DISCOVERED MY CAR HAD, AT SOME POINT IN THE PRIOR 8 HOURS, HAD AN INTERIOR FIRE AND HAD LUCKILY SELF-EXTINGUISHED. THE FIRE SEEMED TO ORIGINATE NEAR THE FUSE BOX, LOCATED TO THE LEFT OF THE STEERING COLUMN, ON THE UNDER SIDE OF THE DASH. THE FIRE MELTED THE FUSE BOX AND SURROUNDING DASH AREA, SPREADING AROUND THE UNDERSIDE OF THE STEERING COLUMN TO JUST ABOVE THE IGNITION ON THE DASH. NO POLICE OR FIRE EMERGENCY SERVICES WERE CALLED AS THE FIRE WAS OUT. MY INSURANCE WAS IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED AND A TOW ORDERED TO TAKE THE MAXIMA TO THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALERSHIP. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO ADVISE THEM OF THIS FIRE. AFTER A FEW WEEKS THEY COMMUNICATED THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT INVESTIGATE THE FIRE. MY INSURANCE COVERED THE COST OF THE REPAIRS AND THE REPAIRS TOOK PLACE. UPON COMPLETION OF THE REPAIRS THE DEALERSHIP DISCOVERED WHEN THEY TESTED THE LUMBAR SWITCH, THAT IT WAS OVERHEATING THE FUSE PANEL AND THAT IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. MY INSURANCE WAS CONTACTED TO COME OUT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO ASSESS THE NEW DISCOVERY. THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER, SERVICE MANAGER, AND SERVICE TECHNICIAN MET AND AGREED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS A PINCHED LUMBAR SWITCH AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I PAID THE COST OF THE SWITCH AS INSURANCE ONLY COVERS DAMAGES. THE LUMBAR SWITCH WAS RECALLED IN 2006. MY LUMBAR SWITCH WAS REPAIRED IN APRIL OF 2006. THE RECALL STATES THE LUMBAR SWITCH WIRING COULD BECOME PINCHED AND CAUSE A FIRE. I ASKED BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO REFUND AND INVESTIGATE MY FIRE AND IT'S ASSOCIATION TO THE RECALL. THE FIRE HAD SOMEHOW CONTAINED ITSELF AND SELF-EXTINGUISHED. THE CAR WAS SEALED SO WE ASSUME IT RAN OUT OF OXYGEN AS THE SMOKE DID NOT LEAK TO THE GARAGE. THE LOWER DASH PANEL ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE STEERING COLUMN APPEARS TO BE THE INITIAL FIRE. AS I AM NOT AN EXPERT, I CAN ONLY ASSUME THE HOUSING FOR THE FUSE PANEL WOULD RELATE TO THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE AS THIS IS WHERE MOST OF THE DAMAGE OCCURRED. THE FIRE MELTED THAT PANEL TO THE FLOORBOARD AND SPREAD AROUND THE STEERING COLUMN, AROUND THE IGNITION AND SLIGHTLY UP TO THE UPPER DASHBOARD (RIGHT SIDE), AGAIN CAUSING THE DASH TO MELT. PRIOR TO THE FIRE THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER SEAT WOULD NOT ENGAGE ANY MOVEMENT. I HAD NOT ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT AS I RARELY, IF EVER, MOVE MY SEAT. THIS HAD OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 4-6 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE FIRE. ANOTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUE THE CAR HAD PRIOR WAS THE SEAT BELT LIGHT INDICATOR WOULD REMAIN ON WHEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT WAS INDEED BUCKLED. I DO NOT KNOW IF THESE ELECTRICAL ISSUES RELATE TO THE ELECTRICAL FIRE. I DID HOWEVER FIND ANOTHER REPORT ON NHTSA INVOLVING THE SAME TYPE OF POWER SEAT ISSUES AND SIMILAR ELECTRICAL FIRE TO THE SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR OF MY MAXIMA. AT THIS TIME THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP IS NOT SURE HOW THE FIRE STARTED AND IS NOT CLAIMING NISSAN LIABILITY. I AM CONCERNED THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF FIRE AND REPLACE THE DAMAGED COMPONENTS OF MY CAR WITH THE SAME POTENTIAL ELECTRICAL FIRE HAZARDS. I'VE HAD A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE FOR QUITE SOME TIME. MY SERVICE RECORD IS QUITE EXTENSIVE ON THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS ONE VEHICLE. THE LATEST BEING 12/28/07 WHEN I HAD MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICING FOR THE DRIVER SEAT FAILURE TO MOVE. MY VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME ON 12/31/07 AND THE SEAT WAS OPERABLE THEN, BUT I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECH THAT THEY WEREN'T SURE IF THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED BUT IT WAS WORKING AT THE PRESENT TIME. AS AN ENSUING RESULT I WAS UNAWARE I WAS DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT COULD OF WENT IN FLAMES WHEN BEING DRIVEN. I'VE ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT NISSAN CORP AND HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO MAKE CONTACT WITH ANYONE OTHER THAN THE REP THAT TOOK MY INFORMATION ON 2/8/08. I'VE ALSO ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT THE OWNER OF THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE AND HAVEN'T HAD ANY LUCK THERE EITHER. While driving my car down the road the vehicle randomly shut off lost power and I had to quickly pull into a plaza but was almost hit, looking through many different Nissan forums a lot of mechanics and owners are saying that the original crankshaft/camshaft position sensors on the Altima/maxima have experienced faulty mechanics over time that cause it to overheat and stop working and locking up the system completely. This is a huge problem as I can’t afford to fix this myself and it could have caused a serious accident this should be investigated due to other recalls on the Altima with the faulty sensors, the maxima 3.5 is also starting to experience these issues if you look through multiple forums and research the issue that’s happening. Please investigate this soon so that nobody gets seriously hurt.

AFTER THE LIGHT CHANGED, SHE PUSHED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND THE VEHICLE "BARELY" MOVED - THAN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED VERY QUICKLY - SHE THOUGHT HER FOOT MAY HAVE SLIPPED OFF THE ACCELERATOR. SHE DROVE FIVE BLOCKS AND CAME TO A STOP INTERSECTION OF MAPLE STREET AND JEFFERSON STREET. AFTER STOPPING SHE BEGAN TO PROCEED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND THE SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN. AND RETURNED TO METROPOLIS - APPROXIMATELY A 20 MILE ROUND TRIP. THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT REMAINED ON. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE, WHICH HAS 51,000 MILES ON IT TO A LOCAL GARAGE (A1 AUTOMOTIVE). A1 TECH'S PLACED THE VEHICLE ON A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE WHICH INDICATED THE CODE IDLE ADAPTATION. A1 SERVICE PERSONNEL CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY AND ADVISED THAT IF THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT RETURNS OR THE SAME ACCELERATION PROBLEMS RETURN THAN THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS REPLACED. BOUGHT CAR BRAND NEW 9/2005. CAR WAS SERVICED MULTIPLE TIMES AND EVEN A NISSAN ENGINEER TESTED STEERING AND SUSPENSION. WHEN SPEED IS AT 60 MPR, STEERING WHEEL SHAKES. NEW TIRES WERE PUT ON BY DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES, ALSO. ENGINEER STATED THAT CAR WAS SUPPOSED TO DO THAT. WELL NOW MY CAR'S TRANSMISSION IS ACTING UP. MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA STARTED HAVING SHIFTING PROBLEMS WHEN SLOWING. I WOULD BE COMING TO A STOP SIGN AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULDN'T JUMP OUT OF GEAR AND THE CAR WOULD FREE ROLL. A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA BEGAN HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. WHEN BEGINNING TO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE WILL JERK WHEN IT REACHES 2 AND 3 RPMS AND REV THE ENGINE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 60-65 MPH THE VEHICLES ROAD PERFORMANCE WAS VERY POOR DUE THE EXTREMELY LOW TIRE PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE STATION TO INFLATE THE LOW PRESSURED TIRES. IDENTICAL FAILURES OCCURRED ON SEVERAL SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE FAILURES WAS CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE CHROME WITHIN THE INNER WHEELS. THE DEFECT CAUSED LOW TIRE PRESSURE, IN WHICH ALL FOUR TIRES HAD DEEP CRACKS. TIRES ON MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA KEEP LOOSING AIR. THE RIMS ARE CHROME (FACTORY) RIMS. I HAVE LOST 2 TIRES BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD 4 OCCURRENCES OF THE LEAKING TIRES. THIS CAR HAS NOTHING BUT ISSUES. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIMING CHAINS ALONG WITH CONTINUING TO DEAL WITH THE CARS TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE REVVING AND TROWING ITSELF IN AND OUT OF GEAR AND DYING THE THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD OR HIGHWAY. I WAS ABOUT TO PULL OFF FROM A STOP LIGHT AND WHEN I HIT THE GAS IT WAS LIKE I WAS IN NEUTRAL. THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. CARS WERE BLOWING AT ME AND ALL. I INADVERTENTLY UPON DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, ALSO PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. WHAT IS APPARENTLY NORMAL FOR THE 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA, IS THE BRAKE PEDAL CAN MOVE BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THIS HIGHLIGHTED TWO PROBLEMS: 1. THE BAKE PEDAL TRAVEL IS TO MUCH, AND 2. I RECENTLY PURCHASED AN 05 MAXIMA WITH 107,000 MILES ON IT. THE NEXT DAY I HEARD A LOUD TICKING FROM ENGINE. MY TENSIONERS ARE FAILING AN ESTIMATED $2000 REPAIR. IN THE SAME DAY UPON ACCELERATION MY WHEEL JERKED VIOLENTLY, A SIGN OF A FAILING TRANSMISSION. $3000+ THIS IS RIDICULOUS. BOUGHT CAR BRAND NEW 9/2005. CAR WAS SERVICED MULTIPLE TIMES AND EVEN A NISSAN ENGINEER TESTED STEERING AND SUSPENSION. WHEN SPEED IS AT 60 MPR, STEERING WHEEL SHAKES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BEGIN TO MALFUNCTION. 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA STARTED HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AT OR NEAR 73,000 MILES. PROBLEMS CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING: WHILE SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE AND VICE VERSA, THE ENGINE JUMPS/JERKS; WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE WILL HESITATE TO ACCELERATE, REVS AND THEN JUMP. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE HAS OVER 80,000 MILES. UNFORTUNATELY WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET IT ASSESSED BY A NISSAN DEALERSHIP BECAUSE WE LIVE IN ITALY (MILITARY). THE PROJECTOR HEADLAMPS ON MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA HAVE FAILED TO PERFORM AS DESIGNED AND HAVE BEEN REPLACED ONCE, AND IS CURRENTLY WORKING IN THE SHOP FOR REPEAT OF INITIAL FAILURE. THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLIES WERE REPLACED INITIALLY AS A WHOLE AND THE PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS. THE ISSUE IS THAT THE PROJECTOR LAMPS UTILIZE A SHUTTER TO CHANGE FROM HIGH TO LOW BEAM. AFTER THE LAMP HAS OPERATED FOR A PERIOD OF TIME (30 MIN-1 HOUR) THE SHUTTER DOES NOT MOVE FULLY, LEAVING THE LAMPS IN A PARTIAL OR FULL HIGH BEAM MODE, EVEN WHEN LOW BEAM IS CALLED FOR BY THE CONTROL SWITCH. ON OCTOBER 19TH, 2008, I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA SE ON THE HIGHWAY ALONG A STRAIGHTAWAY WHEN MY SKYLIGHT MOON ROOF SUDDENLY IMPLODE. IT WAS A LOUD BURST CAUSING SMALL MICROSCOPIC GLASS PARTICLES TO SCATTER THROUGHOUT MY INTERIOR. THE GLASS CUT MY ARM AND FLEW IN MY HAIR. I BELIEVE IT MAY HAVE BEEN DUE TO THE SLIGHTEST POSSIBLE TWISTING OR TORQUE OF THE FRAME BENDING WITH THE ROAD. THE 2004 MODEL OF MY VEHICLE RECENTLY HAD A RECALL DUE TO THIS EXACT ISSUE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT ADJUSTER SWITCH FAILED AND CAUSED THE SEAT TO OVERHEAT. THE FAILURE ALSO AFFECTED THE STEERING COLUMN AND IT CAN NO LONGER BE ADJUSTED UP, DOWN, OR SIDEWAYS. IT REMAINS IN THE LOCKED POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE HEATED SEAT SWITCH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SWITCH AT THE COST OF $210. THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT PROVIDE REIMBURSEMENT BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY COMPLAINTS. PURCHASED A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA IN DECEMBER 2004. BY MARCH OF 2005, THE STRUT ASSEMBLIES (BOTH) HAD BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES AND THE VEHICLE WAS IN AN ADDITIONAL TIME FOR THE SAME COMPLAINT OF NOISE IN THE STRUT ASSEMBLY BUT WAS REPAIRED TO NO AVAIL. MAY 25, 2005: NOISE IN THE FRONT END AGAIN. UPON INSPECTION FROM THE AUTHORIZED NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN CORPUS CHRISTI, TX, IT WAS SAID THAT THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM A FAULTY RACK AND PINION. PRIOR TO THIS (UPON CONCLUSION THAT THE STRUTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED A THIRD TIME), I ASKED NISSAN TO BUY BACK THE VEHICLE. THEY REFUSED. THIS VEHICLE'S FRONT END IS NOT REPAIRABLE AND HAZARDOUS. THE CAR, AT THIS TIME, HAS 17K MILES AND NEEDS TO BE EITHER REPLACED OR BOUGHT BACK.

I PURCHASED A NISSAN MAXIMA SL AT THE START OF NOVEMBER 2004. A HARNESS INSIDE THE ENGINE CONTAINING A SENSOR TO DETECT ENGINE KNOCKS WAS DAMAGED BY A RODENT. THIS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO MISFIRE WHICH CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO BUCK, STOP SHIFTING, CHANGE SPEED OF THE CAR ON IT'S OWN,LOSE ACCELERATION, NOT SHIFT, SHIFT SUDDENLY AND PUT THE DRIVER IN A SITUATION WHERE IF THEY DID NOT COMPENSATE THEY COULD BE INJURED OR KILLED. THE PROBLEM STARTED WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR AND WORSENED OVER THE NEXT THREE THOUSAND MILES OF DRIVING. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER IGNORED THE PROBLEM AND SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE IT UNTIL I SAID I WOULD PAY FOR THEM TO PLUG THE ENGINE INTO A DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER. AT THIS POINT THEY FOUND A MISFIRE CODE, THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED MY THE MASTER MECHANIC AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE HARNESS AT MY EXPENSE! THE MANUFACTURE REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A DANGEROUS DEFECT. THIS IS A DEFECT IN THEIR COMPUTER LOGIC AND/OR DESIGN. A SENSOR MALFUNCTION SHOULD NOT CAUSE AN ENGINE MISFIRE AND TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. NOTE THE DATE OF NOVEMBER 3 2004 INDICATES THAT THE PROBLEM STARTED WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR AND IT CONTINUED UNTIL THE HARNESS WAS REPLACED. I HAVE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER MANY TIMES AND THEY ARE NOT RETURNING MY CALLS. THE MASTER MECHANIC SAID HE HAS SEEN THIS PROBLEM MANY TIMES BEFORE WHICH TELLS ME THAT THIS IS PERHAPS A LONG STANDING PROBLEM THAT NISSAN CHOOSES TO IGNORE.
