In 2017 had my front control arms replaced after the driver side CV arm came off of the axle due to a recall. 5 years later (about 30k miles) the same exact situation happened now with the passenger side making a left turn. Thankfully both times I didn’t cause an accident but came close due to the wheel coming off of the axle. Brought to dealership, they had to get approval from corporate for the repair. Got a call 6 days later saying corporate denied the goodwill repair due to being “normal wear and tear” and they told me to call corporate. Just called corporate and they say that the dealership makes that decision. I shouldn’t have to pay for something that was recalled, repaired, and happened again 100% in the same fashion. Normal wear and tear on a CV arm is not 20-30k miles.

WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR WITHIN 30 DAYS THE AXLE BROKE THEY FIXED IT BUT I HAVEN'T HAD THE CAR FOR 4 MONTHS AND NOW THE TRANSFER CASE IS CRACKED THEY WANT ME TO PAY 800 DOLLARS TO FIX IT BUT I DID NOTHING WRONG HE HASN'T FIXED MY KEY AFTER HE SAID HE WILL HE STATED AFTER THE AXLE WAS FIXED THAT HE NEEDED TO ADD TRANSMISSION FLUID WHICH HE DID NOT EVER ADD AND NOW MY TRANSFER CASE IS BROKE I WAS DRIVING AND HEARD A LARGE BOOM I THOUGHT THE AXLE BROKE AGAIN AND THE 4WD LIGHT CAME ON SO I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT BACK AND NOW THEY TELLING ME IT'S MY FAULT THAT IT HAPPENED I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING BUT DRIVE THE CAR I BROUGHT THE CAR SEPTEMBER 5TH 2019 I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR BACK BECAUSE THE SEAT WOULDN'T WORK THE AXLE BROKE NOW THE OTHER ISSUE

RECEIVED INITIAL RECALL NOTICE (0717A) OF THE POTENTIALLY FATAL TAKATA AIRBAG IN FEBRUARY 2017 AND INSTRUCTED NOT TO LET ANYONE RIDE IN THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR, AND WAS TOLD AIRBAG REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. IT IS NOW SEPTEMBER, 2017 - OVER 6 MONTHS LATER - THE AIRBAG REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE, WE ARE STILL HAVING TO USE A POTENTIALLY DEADLY DEFECTIVE AUTOMOBILE BUT ONLY PART OF THE VEHICLE SINCE WE CANNOT USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE, AND MAZDA HAS NOT OFFERED A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. WE CANNOT EVEN SELL THE CAR FOR FAIR VALUE DO TO THIS POTENTIALLY FATAL AND AT THIS TIME, UN-REPAIRABLE, DEFECT. WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE A SEVERE SHUDDERING VIBRATION AND LOUD NOISE EMANATED FROM FRONT END OF VEHICLE, AS IF FRONT AXEL WAS GOING TO FALL OFF. HAPPENED THREE TIMES SO FAR. ONCE TO MY WIFE, ONCE TO ME, AND ONCE TO THE MECHANIC. VERY FRIGHTENING EACH TIME, CAUSING DRIVERS TO PULL OVER AND TURN OFF VEHICLE. THEN VEHICLE DRIVES OK FOR A WHILE. HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT FORWARD. MECHANIC STATES IT IS A FAILED POWER TRANSFER UNIT. MECHANIC'S RESEARCH INDICATED IT IS A BIG PROBLEM IN MAZDA CX-9 VEHICLES, AND A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WAS FILED AND RESULTED IN A SETTLEMENT. AS FAR AS I CAN TELL THAT SETTLEMENT DOES NOT COVER MY VEHICLE YEAR (2008), AND IS LIMITED TO VEHICLES MANUFACTURED AFTER 2010, AND WHICH MEET CERTAIN SPECIFICATIONS. MECHANIC ESTIMATES REPAIR WILL RUN IN THE $1100-$1500 RANGE. CAR MAKE WEIRD VIBRATION NOISE IN THE BACK END . WENT TO DIFFERENT MECHANICS AND IT'S A TRANSFER CASE AND DRIVESHAFT ISSUE. . LOOKS THE PROBLEM IS IN DESIGN. MAZDA RECALLED THE TRANSFER CASE FROM 2010 MODEL AND LATER BUT NOT BEFORE. SINCE THE SAME PART IS USED IN EARLIER MODELS REQUESTING RECALL ON EARLIER MODELS TOO. I WENT TO 4 DIFFERENT TRANSMISSION SHOPS AND EVERYONE TOLD ME THAT EACH AND EVERY MAZDA CX-9 COMES TO THEM HAS SAME ISSUE. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IS AFTER 2010. While driving the vehicle the brakes became hard to depress and a hissing came from my steering column, the car would not stop or respond to stop. I had to downshift to Neutral to get the speed slow enough to stop - and had passed through an intersection while in failure. I had also had symptoms I did not know at the time may be related which was at a stop at dunkins or a drive through at a stopped position - where the car would run rough the last few weeks. I thought the rough idle was gas related. I can no longer drive the vehicle and am told this is brake booster/pump issue / that other of the same parts in fords and other manufacturers are now extending customer sat programs like 13N02 because of faulty parts in the brake booster. the vehicle can be towed or seen for this problem. The vehicle has no existing coverage of the faulty brake booster. This is a car insured for my son [XXX][ to drive and It is a safety risk that this went while driving, i'm happy it was myself driving that day. Problem has been confirmed as a brake booster pump/booster failure by a service professional. No warning lights - just not able to stop the car when stepping on the brake. I WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOST THE PRESSURE ON MY BRAKE AND MY CAR WONT STOP. I HAD TO DEPRESSED THE BRAKE SO HARD. THEN I STARTED HEARING A HISSING NOISE WHILE STEPPING ON THE BRAKE.

O WAS OPERATING THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKES BECAME SPONGY AND FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE UNLESS I INCREASED THE EFFORT TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN. FOOT HAS SLIPPED ON OCCASION CAUSING MY ANKLE TO BE STRUCK ON THE PEDAL. I NOW DOWN SHIFT GEARS TO SLOW THE VEHICLE TO ASSIST IN STOPPING WHILE KEEPING EVEN FURTHER BACK FROM VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME. CURRENTLY, NO RECALLS ARE OUT SPECIFICALLY FOR MY VIN BUT THE YEAR MAKE AND MODEL ARE CONSISTENT WITH THE CURRENT RECALLS OUT FOR BAD MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER. BOTH OF WHICH HAVE FAILED IN MY VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE GAITHERSBURG MD MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY INSIST THE VEHICLE IS NOT RECALLED AND ARE SUGGESTING I PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR A KNOWN RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE EXITING THE HIGHWAY AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT SWERVED TO THE RIGHT AND STRUCK A CURB, WHICH SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN. THE CONTACT QUICKLY SHIFTED INTO PARK. IN ADDITION, EACH TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE SOUND OF BLOWING AIR WAS HEARD FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE RAY SKILLMAN MAZDA DEALERSHIP, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PHYSICALLY DIAGNOSED. THE TECHNICIANS VERBALLY INFORMED ME IMMEDIATELY OF BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE BASED ON THE SYMPTOMS CONVEYED. THE PROBLEM STEMMED FROM A DEFECTIVE BRAKE BOOSTER. I DID CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER (MAZDA CORPORATE OFFICE IN CALIFORNIA) PRIOR TO CONTACTING THE NHTSA. MAZDA WAS UNCOOPERATIVE ON ANY AGREEMENT OF REPAIRS DUE TO THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PERIOD ENDING THAT I WAS UNAWARE OF." DUE TO THE UNETHICAL STANDING OF MAZDA FAILING TO ISSUE A RECALL, MYSELF AND FAMILY WERE PUT IN GREAT DANGER WHEN I EXPERIENCED THE BRAKE FAILURE. HAD WE BEEN AWARE OF THE FACT THAT MAZDA KNOWINGLY DISCOVERED THE MANUFACTURER DEFECT, I WOULD HAVE BEEN PROACTIVE IN ADDRESSING THE ISSUE PRIOR TO HAVING AN ALMOST TOTAL LIFE LOSS AND VEHICLE DAMAGE. I REQUESTED TO ESCALATE MY CONCERNS, AND SPOKE WITH A SUPERVISOR THAT SUGGESTED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AND STATED THEY MAY OR NOT AGREE TO COVER SOME IF ANY OF THE CHARGES. AFTER MY VEHICLE SAT ON THE LOT FOR 5 DAYS AS WE TRIED TO COME TO AN AGREEMENT, MAZDA AGREED TO COVER 50% OF THE REPAIR COST (PARTS, LABOR, AND DIAGNOSTIC FEE.) IN ADDITION, THE TECHNICIANS ALSO DISCOVERED AN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT NOT LUMINATING ON THE DASHBOARD. THEY DETERMINED ALSO THE BRAKE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN AN INDICATOR OF SOME SORT OF BRAKE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. The contact owns a 2008 Mazda CX-9. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, he noticed that the brakes felt loose and the braking distance had become extended while attempting to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that he heard a hissing sound while depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the brakes failed completely while attempting to stop for a traffic signal and the vehicle rolled into the intersection. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the brake booster was malfunctionin,g and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER SEAT SPONTANEOUSLY MOVED ALL THE WAY FORWARD, AND PINNED ME AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL. FORTUNATELY, I WAS PARKED AND NOT DRIVING. I TRIED MOVING THE SEAT ADJUSTMENT SWITCH MANUALLY, BUT THE SEAT CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE IS NOW AT THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE TELL ME THAT THEY HAVE ALREADY CORRECTED A RECALL (ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO) WHICH DEALS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. AND THUS THEY CLAIM THE RECALL IS "COMPLETE" AND THEY NO LONGER HAVE TO CORRECT IT.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE BUT THE REPAIRS WAS UNKNOWN HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

WHILE TAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN IN THE PARKING LOT OF LOGAN AIRPORT, AND TRAVELLING ABOUT 5-10 MPH, MY CAR MADE A LOUD NOISE AND CAME TO A SUDDEN AND ABRUPT HALT. I STEPPED OUT OF THE CAR AND DISCOVERED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE HAD DISCONNECTED FROM THE STEERING ARM. THE CAR WAS IMMOBILIZED, AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO MOVE IT OUT OF THE WAY OF OTHER TRAFFIC IN THE AIRPORT PARKING LOT, CAUSING CHAOS IN THE PARKING LOT AND CAUSING THEM TO TEMPORARILY SHUT DOWN AN ENTIRE FLOOR OF THE PARKING LOT WHILE THEY STRUGGLED TO TOW THE CAR OUT OF THE WAY. THE CAR WAS SUBSEQUENTLY TOWED TO A MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND THE TIRE ARMS AND BALL JOINTS WERE REPAIRED PURSUANT TO A RECALL (8515G). THE FRONT TIRES WERE ALSO UNEVENLY WORN AND REPLACED, VERY LIKELY FROM THE BALL JOINT / STEERING ARM ISSUE, AND COST $481.55. MAZDA WOULD NOT REIMBURSE FOR THE TIRES BECAUSE I COULD NOT LOCATE RECEIPTS TO PROVE I HAD ROTATED THE TIRES AT THE APPROPRIATE INTERVALS, SPECIFICALLY STATING "OUR DEALER WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM IF THE WEARING OF THE TIRES WERE DUE TO THE RECALL ITEM AS THERE WAS NO SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION INDICATING THE PROPER MAINTENANCE ON THE TIRES". I DO NOT BELIEVE MOST PEOPLE KEEP RECORDS OF EVERY OIL CHANGE / TIRE ROTATION THEY HAVE DONE, BUT THE WEAR WAS VERY CONSISTENT WITH WHAT WOULD BE EXPECTED FOR BALL JOINT ISSUES. FURTHERMORE THE CAR HAD BEEN INSPECTED BY THE STATE OF MASSACHUSETTS IN THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER, AND NO UNEVEN WEAR WAS FOUND AT THAT TIME, GIVING FURTHER INDICATION THAT THE UNEVEN WEAR WAS LINKED TO THE BALL JOINT / TIRE ROD ISSUE. FORTUNATELY THIS DID NOT OCCUR ONE DAY EARLIER WHILE TOWING A BOAT ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY DISABLED SON, THIS COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN A MULTI FATALITY ACCIDENT. ON 06 JUNE 2015 AT APPROXIMATELY 1400 MY WIFE WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. NEAR THE END OF THE TURN THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL BROKE LOOSE TURNING NEARLY 90 DEGREES TO THE RIGHT AND JAMMED ITSELF INTO THE REAR OF THE FENDER WELL. THE CAR WAS IMMEDIATELY IMMOBILIZED AND CAME TO AN ABRUPT HALT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. LOOKING AT THE DAMAGE IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINT HAD FAILED AND BROKE COMPLETELY FREE. THIS CAUSED THE WHEEL TO TURN NEARLY 90 DEGREES TO THE RIGHT WHICH SUBSEQUENTLY RIPPED OUT THE CV AXLE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. HAD THIS OCCURRED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE CONTROL ARM/BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY, THE CV SHAFT, AND SWAY BAR LINK WAS REPLACED. THERE IS ALSO FENDER WELL AND BODY DAMAGE THAT WILL HAVE TO BE REPAIRED. ON 10 JULY 2015, I NOTICED AN UNUSUAL INSTABILITY WHILE NEGOTIATING WIDE TURNS ON THE HIGHWAY. IT FELT AS IF THE VEHICLE HAD A WHEEL LOOSE. WHILE TURNING TO THE RIGHT, THE VEHICLE WOULD ABRUPTLY TURN EVEN SHARPER TO RIGHT ALMOST CAUSING AN UNINTENTIONAL LANE CHANGE. AFTER COMING OUT OF THE TURN I COULD FEEL THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY CORRECT ITSELF. ONCE I ARRIVED AT MY RESIDENCE I JACKED UP THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE TO INSPECT THE FRONT WHEELS. THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL SEEMED NORMAL (WAS REPAIRED IN JUNE 2015 AS MENTIONED ABOVE). MUCH TO MY DISMAY WHEN INSPECTING THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL, I DISCOVERED THAT THE BALL JOINT ON THIS SIDE IS NOW BROKE. IT IS NOT SEPARATED, BUT IS CLEARLY BROKEN AS EVIDENCED BY THE EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT AND CLUNKING NOISE WHEN MOVING THE WHEEL FROM SIDE TO SIDE AS IT IS SUSPENDED ABOVE THE GROUND FROM THE CAR BEING ON A JACK. I WILL BE HAVING THIS REPAIRED THIS WEEK ONCE PARTS ARRIVE FROM THE LOCAL MAZDA DEALER. BOTTOM LINE: I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE.

I HAD BEEN HEARING A KNOCKING NOISE IN MY CAR WHEN I WENT TO MAKE LEFT OR RIGHT HAND TURNS FOR APPROXIMATELY A WEEK. AFTER HAVING MY MECHANIC INVESTIGATE HE TOOK A LOOK AT THE BALL JOINTS, THEY ARE 'NON-SERVICEABLE,' WHICH MEANS THEY ARE A SEALED UNIT. HE SAID FROM WHAT HE COULD TELL THEY WERE FINE. LATER THAT DAY I ATTEMPTED TO PULL OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. MY WHEELS WERE SPINNING IN THE SNOW, I GOT OUT AND TOOK A LOOK AND MY FRONT LEFT TIRE WAS OFF! THE BALL JOINT WAS NO LONGER ATTACHED THE CAR. THE ONLY THING SECURING THE WHEEL TO THE CAR WAS THE TIE ROD. I AM REPORTING TWO INCIDENTS OF ENGINE REVVING THAT OCCURRED WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. IN THE FIRST INCIDENT (SEP 2015), I STARTED THE CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY. AFTER A COUPLE SECONDS, THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING REALLY FAST EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. I REMAINED IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. AFTER RE-STARTING THE CAR, EVERYTHING BEHAVED NORMALLY. IN THE SECOND INCIDENT (DEC 6, 2015), I STARTED THE CAR, PUT IT IN REVERSE, AND WAS BACKING UP IN A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT. THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCCELERATED BACKWARD WITH THE ENGINE REVVING. I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE HARD, AND THEN CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. THE REVVING STOPPED AND THE CAR DROVE NORMALLY AFTER THAT. I FELT LUCKY TO HAVE STOPPED THE CAR, HOWEVER, AND IT WENT BACKWARDS FURTHER AND FASTER THAN WANTED. I CHECKED THE FLOOR MATS AND BRAKE/ACCELERATOR AREA FOR ANY OBJECTS, AND EVERYTHING WAS IN THE CORRECT PLACE. MAZDA TOLD ME (JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHER VICTIMS) THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR, THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE 60 MPH TO 100+ MPH UNINTENDED ACCELERATION DURING RUSH HOUR AND THAT NO REPAIRS WOULD BE MADE. ELEVEN DAYS LATER, MAZDA CORPORATE CALLED TO TELL ME THAT MY PARTS HAD BEEN ORDERED AND WOULD BE INSTALLED THAT DAY. I SAID "WHAT PARTS??!!!" THEY TOLD ME TO CALL THE DEALER WHO WAS SHOCKED THAT I KNEW ABOUT THE REPAIRS AND TOLD ME THAT YES, THEY WERE REPLACING PARTS BUT THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. NOW THAT THE CAR HAS BEEN FIXED, I'M NOT ABLE TO PROVE THAT THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. HAD THERE BEEN SNOW OR OTHER ROAD CONDITIONS, I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN FROM A PARKING LOT ONTO A ROAD WITH MY TWO CHILDREN IN THE CAR WHEN A LOUD CRUNCH HAPPENED, THE VEHICLE JERKED LEFT WHILE STILL MOVING FORWARD AND I WAS UNABLE TO STEER OR BREAK. THE CAR CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP AND I COULDN'T GET THE DRIVER'S DOOR OPEN. I WALKED AROUND TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR WHILE IN TRAFFIC AND NOTICED LOOSE PARTS THAT HAD BEEN EJECTED FROM THE WHEEL, LEAKING BREAK FLUID, AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WHEEL WAS NO LONGER ATTACHED AND HAD WEDGED UNDER THE CAR. THE CAR WAS UNABLE TO BE MOVED OUT OF THE ROAD THUS CREATING A TRAFFIC JAM. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID THE CONTROL ARM WAS BROKEN AND THAT MY GIRLS AND I ARE LUCKY THAT WE WERE NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED. ONE DAY, MY KEYLESS DON STOPPED WORKING. THE NEXT DAY THE DOOR KEPT LOCKING WHILE I WAS DRIVING ALMOST EVERY TIME I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. THEN THE DRIVERS DOOR WOULDN'T UNLOCK, WHEN I MANUALLY UNLOCKED THE DOOR IT WAS HARD TO DO. I LUCKILY HAD THE WINDOWS ROLLED DOWN, GOT OUT THE VEHICLE AND AS SOON AS I SHUT THE DOOR I HEAR THE DOOR LOCK AND MY TWO YEAR OLD WAS IN THE BACKSEAT! AGAIN LUCKILY I HAD THE WINDOWS ROLLED DOWN OTHERWISE SHE MIGHT'VE BEEN STUCK! THEN THE ALARM KEPT GOING OFF AND WOULDN'T TURN OFF UNTIL I UNHOOKED THE BATTERY. IMAGINE MY FRUSTRATION. NOW THE CAR IS STILL AT THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND HAD ITS BCM/BCU REPLACED FOR A SUPPOSED 'FIX', I'M SUPPOSE TO PICK IT UP TOMORROW. SO I GUESS WE'LL SEE. THE APPARENT PROBLEM FROM ALL OF THIS? MY CX9 HAS A SUNROOF, WHICH MAZDA KNOWS THESE VEHICLES DON'T DRAIN PROPERLY WHICH CAUSES WATER TO GO TO THE BCM SHORTING IT OUT! I WAS ABOUT TO LEAVE FROM MY RESIDENTIAL PARKING LOT. I WENT TO CHECK MY WHEELCHAIR WAS SECURE. I OPENED THE LIFTGATE. AFTER SECURING THE WHEELCHAIR I PRESSED THE ELECTRONIC BUTTON TO CLOSE THE LIFTGATE. I HEARD 3 BEEPS, BUT THE DOOR/LIFTGATE WOULD NOT CLOSE.I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON, I GOT OUT THE MANUAL BEGAN TO TRY SEVERAL THINGS TO CLOSE THE DOOR/LIFTGATE. I LOCKED AND UNLOCKED THE DOOR LOCKS, I CHECKED NOTHING BLOCKING THE SENSORS. I USED THE POWER CONTROL BUTTON UNDER THE DASHBOARD AND THE DOOR STILL WOULD NOT CLOSE. I DID THIS FOR AN HOUR. FINALLY, SOMETHING HAPPENED & WAS ABLE TO CLOSE THE DOOR/LIFTGATE BY HAND. I TOOK THE CAR TO A REPUTABLE MACHANIC. THEY FOUND "MAZDA" HAD A "TSB" OUT ABOUT THE LIFTGATE LOCK ASSEMBLY AND IF THE LOCK FAILS, REPLACE THE ENTIRE PART. I TOOK THE CAR TO A MAZDA DEALER. THE COST TO SPECIAL ORDER THE PART AND REPAIR WOULD COST APPROX. $1200. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO REPLACE THE LOCK. I I AM A HADICAPPED PERSON. I USE MOBILITY DEVICES TO HELP ME REMAIN MOBILE AND GET TO AND FROM DOCTORS AND THERAPY.. I CANNOT TRANSPORT THESE DEVICES( WHEELCHAIR, ELECTRIC SKOOTER/CHAIR) BECAUSE OF THE LIFTGATE LOCK PROBLEM. THE MUSIC WAS PLAYING AND THE FOUR VEHICLE OCCUPANTS WERE RELAXED AND TALKING. SUDDENLY WITH A VERY LOUD SOUND THE SUN ROOF GLASS EXPLODED/SHATTERED COVERING ALL OCCUPANTS IN GLASS SHARDS. THE DRIVER MAINTAINED COMPLETE CONTROL ON THE VEHICLE AND MADE AN IMMEDIATE EMERGENCY STOP. THE PASSENGER FRONT OCCUPANT INJURED HER NECK DURING THE VIOLENT REACTION FROM THE SOUND/EXPLOSION AND COVERING IN GLASS AND WILL NEED TREATMENT. NOTHING STRUCK THE VEHICLE!!! To whom it concern. Leaking water in my passenger seat, at the beginning we though that was the blower motor, we change it, but then got wet again and it went bad again, but I found out that was a malfunction factory the problem with the air conditioning compressor. I took my car to 3 different shops, where the first two, drained my A/C I give up because I was paying money for nothing. I took the car to Mazda dealer, They told me that my car have a malfunction Factory and was about the a/c system. I talk to Mazda and ask them to replace it, because this was a factory problem. They refuse to do it. I found a recall for Mazda cx5 with the same problem but not my car that is Mazda cx9. MAZDA CX-9 PROBLEM 130,000 MILES-ON NOVEMBER 25TH, AS I WAS DROPPING MY CHILDREN TO THEIR SCHOOLS, THE DEFROST SUDDENLY STOPS WORKING. I TRY TO TURN THE FAN/HEATER ALL THE WAY, BUT TO NO AVAIL. I HAD TO USE A TOWEL TO WIPE THE WINDSHIELD. AS I PULLED INTO A CURVED SIDE, THE ENGINE TURNS OFF, I TURNED THE IGNITION KEY TO OFF, THEN STARTS THE ENGINE AGAIN, AND THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. I PULLED OUT AND DROVE ABOUT SIX HUNDRED FEET AND PARKED. I CALL A MECHANIC AND I DROVE IT AGAIN FOR A MILE TO THE SHOP. HE OPENS UP THE HOOD AND POUR IN SOME COOLANT AND ALL THE COOLANT WERE ON THE FLOOR. HE IMMEDIATELY TOLD ME THAT COOLANT LEAKS AND OIL IS PROBABLY MIXED AND CAUSES THE ENGINE FAILURE. HE TOLD ME I HAD TO CHANGE THE ENGINE, BECAUSE FIXING IT WILL COST ME OVER TEN GRAND. I DROVE IT HOME, THEN THE FOLLOWING MORNING, I TOOK TO A DIFFERENT SHOP, THEY DID THE DIAGNOSIS AND RELATE THE SAME STORY THAT CHECK CODES SHOWED THREE CODES: P0016, CRANK POSITION SENSOR CORRELATION BANK ONE SENSOR A. 1285 CYLINDER HEAD OVER TEMPERATURE, 1299 CYLINDER HEAD TEMP PROTECTION. THE CODES INDICATE AN OVERHEAT SCENARIO THAT RESULTED IN ENGINE SHUT DOWN. THEY CHECK OIL AND FOUND MILKY SUBSTANCE INSTEAD OF OIL. THEIR RECOMMENDATION IS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE, ASSEMBLY AND FLUSH COOLING SYSTEM. THEIR TOTAL ESTIMATE IS $10,900. I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY FOR THIS SERVICE REPAIR. I CANNOT EVEN SPEND THAT MUCH OF MONEY ON ANOTHER CAR. WE BOUGHT THIS CAR THINKING THAT IT WILL TAKE US FOR SOME TIME BEFORE WE'LL NEED ANOTHER CAR. ALL GAUGES WILL DROPS DOWN TO ZERO, DASH BOARD WARNING LIGHTS WILL BEGIN FLASHING OFF AND ON, MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS WILL BECOME DISABLED AND THERE HAVE BEEN TWO OCCASIONS WHEN MY CAR REFUSED TO START. I STARTED TO NOTICE THAT WHEN THE "AT" LIGHT AND THE TRACTION CONTROL SYMBOL LIGHT ARE ON THE VEHICLE SPEED WILL NOT ACCELERATE TO THE SPEED FOR WHICH I'M PRESSING THE GAS. MY INITIAL TAKEOFF IS VERY SLOW. AFTER THE FIRST NO START I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED HOME AND HAD TO GET A RENTAL FOR A FEW DAYS. (CURRENT CASE WITH CX-9 AND FORD EDGE -2008) 2) TANK IS SECURED USING TRADITIONAL TANK STRAPS THE FORD EDGE TANK (THE SAME AS CX-9) WAS RECALLED IN CASE 1 BECAUSE THE BOLTED FLANGE IS PART OF THE TANK. AFTER REPEATED FLEXING OF FRAME AND TANK WITH THE ADDITION OF CORROSION IN NORTHERN STATES, THE FIXED FLANGE RUPTURES THE THANK CAUSING SUDDEN FUEL LOSS ON A TANK THAT DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE CORRODED. THIS IS OF COURSE A LARGE LIABILITY AS BRITTLE FATIGUE FRACTURE IS BY NATURE SUDDEN. THERE IS NO WARNING FOR THE CUSTOMER. THEY PULL INTO THEIR GARAGE AT HOME OR WORK AND ARE A SUDDEN HAZARD. IN CASE 2, A TRADITION METHOD OF SECURING A TANK, THE LOAD IS DISTRIBUTED ON A STRAP. SHOULD THE STRAP FRACTURE THERE IS NO SUDDEN FUEL LOSS. THE STRAP CAN BE REPLACED. THE TANK STAYS SEALED. THIS DESIGN FLAW HAS RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ENOUGH ISSUE THAT FORD HAS RECALLED OVER 200,000 VEHICLES IDENTICAL TO THE CX-9 TO ADDRESS THIS EXACT ISSUE. A VERY FRIGHTENING INCIDENT OCCURRED SATURDAY AUGUST 29, 2015 APPROX 6:45 P.M. AFTER A ROUND TRIP TRAVEL ON THE HIGHWAY FOR APPROX 80 MILES. SUDDENLY WITHOUT ANY PREVIOUS WARNING THE CAR MADE A JERKING/SKIDDING TYPE MOVEMENT, SOMETHING SEEMED TO DROP OUT OF THE FRONT END AND THE CAR CAME ABRUPTLY TO A STOP. SEVERAL PEOPLE PULLED OVER TO SEE IF I AND MY ONE MONTH OLD GRANDDAUGHTER WERE OK AS I WAS AT A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION. A BYSTANDER TOLD ME THAT THE DRIVERS FRONT TIRE WAS FACING OUT TO THE LEFT OF THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE UNDER THE CAR AS WELL. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE BALL JOINT SEPARATED, THE SHAFT OR AXLE MAY HAVE BROKEN, AND THERE MAY BE OTHER SEVERE DAMAGE AS THERE WAS ALSO OIL ON THE ROAD. MY TIRE WAS AS MENTIONED. IT IS ALSO NOTED THAT I AM UNABLE TO COMPLETELY OPEN MY DRIVERS DOOR DOOR NOW POSSIBLY DUE TO BODY MISALIGNMENT NOW. I HAVE PICTURES OF ANY VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE CAR. I AM APPALLED AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM THAT MAZDA WILL BE CONDUCTING A RECALL IN SEPTEMBER BUT HAS YET TO SEND OUT NOTICES TO CUSTOMERS. IN FACT A SECOND NOTICE WILL EVENTUALLY COME OUT WHEN PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. I CONTACTED MAZDA USA DIRECTLY AND ASKED THEM TO HELP ME OUT ON THIS ISSUE AS IT WAS A VERY UNUSUAL PROBLEM, HEALTH HAZARD (AFTER SOME RESEARCH ON THE WEB, THE WHITE POWDER COULD POSSIBLY BE ALUMINUM OXIDE). IT IS ONE THING WHEN A SYSTEM FAILS; BUT IT IS NOT TO BE TAKEN LIGHTLY IF IT IS EMITTING HAZARDOUS PARTICLES THROUGH THE VENTS! MAZDA USA RESPONSE WAS - NO CAN'T DO - VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY! THERE HAVE BEEN A MULTITUDE OF PROBLEMS ON THE VEHICLE (TWO SETS OF BRAKES, TIEROD, ELECTRICAL OVERHAUL VACUUM HOSES...) THE MAJOR ISSUE HAS BEEN OIL LEAKING. THIS PAST SUMMER (2011) THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK. THE DEALER HAD THE CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE DIAGNOSING THAT IT WAS THE REAR MAIN SEAL. THE SEAL WAS REPLACED (CAR WAS AT DEALER FOR NEARLY TWO WEEKS.) THIS FALL (2011) OIL WAS STILL LEAKING. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS THE DEALER CONTACTED MAZDA CORPORATE AND THEY SUGGESTED REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION, CLAIMING IT WAS NOT UNCOMMON. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. RUSTY DOOR HINGE BOLTS ON 2008 MAZDA CX-9. THERE ARE FOUR BOLTS ON EVERY HINGE AND TWO HINGES PER DOOR. HALF OF THE BOLTS ARE PAINTED AND PROTECTED, THE OTHER HALF ARE NOT AND THEY ARE RUSTING. 2008 CX-9 MAZDA WITH 25,644 MILES APPEARS TO HAVE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS RECALLED TOYOTAS IN THAT THE DRIVER'S CX-9 ORIGINAL RUBBER FLOOR MAT MOVES UP TOWARDS FRONT OF VEHICLE WITH USE & LODGES UNDER THE PLASTIC PANEL ON THE LOWER LEFT SIDE OF THE FOOT WELL, (PHOTOGRAPHS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST). WHEN THE FLOOR MAT LODGES UNDER PLASTIC PANEL IN THIS MANNER, IT CAUSES BOTH THE TCS INDICATOR LIGHT AND THE TCS OFF LIGHT TO PERMANENTLY ILLUMINATE. TCS / BRAKE ASSIST SYSTEM CEASES TO FUNCTION & CANNOT BE OVERRIDDEN WITH TCS ON/OFF BUTTON. VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY AND HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR SAME ISSUE. THE FIRST TIME THE TCS SYSTEM WAS "RE-SET" BY COMPUTER & WAS ADVISED BY SERVICE TECH. THAT VEHICLE WAS NOW FINE, (FLOOR MAT INVOLVEMENT UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME). THE SECOND TIME, THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT BACK IN, (LESS THAN 5,000 MILES AFTER FIRST TIME IT WAS BROUGHT IN), AS THE TCS INDICATOR LIGHT / TCS OFF LIGHT WERE ILLUMINATED AND TCS BRAKE ASSIST SYSTEM WAS NOT OPERATING AND SERVICE TECH SPENT MOST OF MORNING WITH VEHICLE. AT THE END OF THIS VISIT, THE SERVICE TECH. ADVISED THAT HE HAD DETERMINED INCIDENTS WERE CAUSED BY FLOOR MAT MOVING UP UNDER BRAKE / GAS PEDAL & THAT MAT WAS "INTERFERING WITH THE BRAKE ASSIST SYSTEM IN THAT IT WAS PREVENTING IT FROM COMPLETING THE CIRCUIT". I WAS ADVISED TO REMOVE THE FLOOR MAT FROM THE VEHICLE. CLIPS TO SECURE THE MAT WOULD PREVENT THESE INCIDENTS. NOTE: WHEN THE FLOOR MAT BECOMES LODGED WHILE DRIVING, I CANNOT PHYSICALLY DISLODGE IT FROM UNDER THE PLASTIC PANEL UNTIL STOPPED AS TWO HANDS (AND A LOT OF STRENGTH) ARE NEEDED TO DO SO. I FIND THEIR RECOMMENDATION TO REMOVE THE FLOOR MAT UNACCEPTABLE AS THE FLOOR MAT TRAPS DIRT / DEBRIS. I CONTINUE TO USE THE FLOOR MAT BUT AM EXTREMELY CAREFUL ABOUT NOT ALLOWING IT TO MOVE WHILE DRIVING. OTHERS MAY NOT KNOW POTENTIAL HAZARD EXISTS. THIS COMPLAINT IS RELATED TO HOW THE 2008 MAZDA CX9 HANDLES WHEN THE ROAD CONDITIONS HAVE A LAYER OF SNOW OR ICE. WHEN DRIVING ON A FLAT SURFACE THE CAR IS FINE. WHEN DRIVING UP A VERY SLIGHT INCLINE, THE CAR DOES NOT PERFORM. THE TIRES THAT ARE PUT ON THIS CAR FROM FACTORY ARE NOT GOOD, WHICH CAUSES THE TRACTION CONTROL TO ENGAGE FREQUENTLY. THE PROBLEM ARISES WHEN THE TRACTION CONTROL IS ON. PER THE MANUAL, THE TRACTION CONTROL COMES ON TO REDUCE RPM. WE HAVE FOUND THAT WHEN THE TRACTION CONTROL IS ACTIVATED, THE VEHICLE HAS NO POWER - IT FEELS LIKE IT IS IN NEUTRAL - THERE IS NO ENGINE SOUND WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. THIS LEAVES THE DRIVER STUCK WITH ABSOLUTELY NO POWER TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN SINCE THERE IS NO POWER TO MOVE OUT OF OTHER DRIVERS WAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH BOTH DRIVERS OF THE VEHICLE. WE HAVE REPORTED THIS TO MAZDA DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES. WE HAVE REQUESTED SOMEONE DRIVE WITH US SO WE CAN REPLICATE THE SITUATION. THEY WERE UNABLE TO GET US AN APPOINTMENT RIGHT AWAY. THE LAST REQUEST TO MAZDA SERVICE WAS FEB. 2011, IT WAS EXPLAINED THAT WE WANTED TO BRING THE CAR IN SO SOMEONE COULD DRIVE IT IN THE SNOWY CONDITIONS. THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL US WHEN THEY COULD FIT US IN. WE DID NOT RECEIVE A CALL FOR 3 DAYS. WE HAD TO CALL THEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MAZDA CX-9. WHEN THE WEATHER IS COLD THE FRONT PASSENGER RIGHT TIRE LOST PRESSURE AND INCREASED FROM 32 PSI TO 25 PSI. HE REPLACED THE TIRE ON ONE OCCASION AND THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. AIR WAS ADDED TO THE TIRE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BY A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY AND ON TWO OCCASIONS BY THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR VALVE MONITOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND HAS CAUSED THE TIRE TO LOSE PRESSURE. THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPLACE THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR VALVE MONITOR WAS $300.00. HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED REPORT NUMBER 127407340. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE COST TO REPLACE THE TIRE SENSOR MONITOR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 36,000.
