My Mazda has been serviced regularly, in fact my next oil change isn't for 2,000 more miles. I was driving when I heard this weird noise. I looked at the dash and the oil light was flashing and the temperature was over heating. I could also feel the vehicle getting sluggish. I pulled over on the interstate. All the lights were on by this time. I popped the hood and there wasn't any coolant in the resivour anymore. I let the car cool down and I added some water as I was 1 mile from the exit where there was a gas station. I had to baby the car to the exit and shut it off whenever it got hot. The oil was full and seemed overfull even..... Mechanic is guessing the coolant leaked if the engine.... I was stranded for hours with 4 children...

The issue is with the design of the Water Pump on this vehicle. From my understanding, this is a common issue with the 2015 Mazda CX-9. What happens is once the water pump starts to fail due to the design, the vehicle starts to stall randomly which poses a safety issue to my family when driving. The vehicle was inspected by a dealership in the area and was ultimately fixed. I was informed that the water pump has been redesigned by the manufacturer to prevent this issue from happening again.

Engine failed suddenly while driving on a busy street. No lights were on, no warnings. Slight hum earlier that day, that was almost indistinguishable from the radio or other road noise. Steering and brakes not responsive. Had it towed to dealer who found that the water pump had failed which allowed coolant to leak into the oil. Dealer mechanic stated that the water pump is not visible to any mechanic without removing the entire engine, therefore would not have been able to see defects or problems ahead of event. Also said the fix would run a minimum of $3400 if a new water pump could even fix the problem. Found that there is a class action lawsuit against Mazda already for the CX9 for my model year because they know of the problem yet refuse to recall. I am one of many this has happened to. It is very unsafe for a car to suddenly seize while driving. Especially with no warnings and with the car having only 97000 miles on it. Had my new teenage driver been behind the wheel or had it happened a few minutes earlier while I was on the interstate, the outcome could have been very different.

Water pump failed and leaked coolant into oil. Known issue by Mazda but they have failed to warn consumers. Repairs roughly 4000 dollars. Luckily I caught before engine failed due to lubricant dilution from coolant. Potentially a very dangerous flaw.

2015 Mazda CX-9 with 93k miles: while driving in traffic, check engine light suddenly came on, the car began to shudder as I heard a loud knocking noises coming from under the hood, and then a sudden loss of power while trying to navigate through a busy intersection while trying to make a left turn left myself in danger of almost being struck from the vehicle behind me and an oncoming vehicle from the opposite direction due to me stalling out in the middle of an intersection. The water pump (unbeknownst to myself and apparently many others) is located inside of the engine and behind the timing belt components failed without showing any prior signs of failure due to the water pump being hidden inside of the engine. The coolant had been leaking into the oil pan and mixed with the oil but because the water pump was purposely hidden inside the engine NO leaks of coolant (which would have been the early warning tell-tale sign of a problem) were visible. This faulty design caused a catastrophic failure of my engine which has been verified by a Mazda dealership and the engine had to be replaced at my cost. Although there were no injuries or deaths in my case, it does not nullify a faulty design and component of a vehicle putting peoples safety at risk when it is a well known industry fact that Mazda knowingly continued to manufacture this faulty design and use it in their vehicles.

My check engine light came on. Thought it was the oil needing to be changed. Oil was extra dark and muggy. Also notice antifreeze low. Fill up antifreeze and change oil. 2 wks later antifreeze back down low. Check engine still on. Got it diagnosed with auto scanner and says camshaft sensor. Went to autoshop, mechanic says it's not cramshaft sensor but water tank leak in engine which was picked up by camshaft sensor. I have yet to find out what else is wrong or if my engine needs to be replaced. For sure the water tank needs replacement. I read from others of their car over heating or completely stopped working. I fear this because I have 3 kids and on weekends I drive on the highway for about an hour to get to my destination. This is something dangerous because I don't want to get rear ended or hurt if my car suddenly gives out during heavy traffic.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2015 MAZDA CX-9 ON A VERY BUSY INTERSTATE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DRIVER PANEL. I WAS TRAVELING WITH MY VERY YOUNG CHILDREN, AGES 4 AND 20 MONTHS. APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES LATER, I STARTED HEARING A RATTLING SOUND UNDER THE HOOD. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, MY CAR STALLED OUT AS I ENTERED MY SUBDIVISION. MY HUSBAND HAD TO PUSH THE CAR TO OUR DRIVEWAY. I CALLED AAA THAT SAME DAY AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT SERVICES THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND WAS QUOTED A PRICE TO FIX THE ISSUE. LATER, I WAS TOLD THAT AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE COOLANT MIXED WITH FLUIDS AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS QUOTED OVER $7000 TO COMPLETE THIS WORK. DURING THE COURSE OF MY RESEARCH, I HAVE LEARNED THAT A LOT OF MAZDA CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE THIS MODEL VEHICLE EXPERIENCE THIS ISSUE QUITE FREQUENTLY. I CALLED MAZDA CUSTOMER CARE AND WAS TOLD THAT MAZDA IS NOT ELECTING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ISSUE. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT I WAS ABLE TO ARRIVE TO MY SUBDIVISION WITHOUT INJURING MY CHILDREN OR SELF, BUT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD RESULT IN THE LOSS OF LIVES IF NOT CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY.

The wiring harness on the headlight for my Mazda CX-9 has and continues to melt, causing the bulb to be useless. The only issue that will seem to correct this issue is installing new headlights. According to my research this is a problem that is common to Mazda CX-9 vehicles.

I'VE ONLY HAD MY MAZDA FOR 10 MONTHS AND HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM TWICE. THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT SOCKET HAS MELTED AND RENDERING THE BULB USELESS. I NOTICED THE SOCKET HAD BEEN SPLICED INTO THE OLD HARNESS SO I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL MAZDA DEALER SERVICE. THEY GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE TO INSTALL A COMPLETE NEW HARNESS. TO REMOVE THE LIGHT FIXTURE, THE BUMPER WILL NEED TO BE REMOVED. THE ESTIMATE FOR THIS WAS $643.25! I PURCHASED THE WIRING HARNESS AND WITH HELP INSTALLED IT THROUGH THE PORTS IN THE REAR OF THE FIXTURE IN JANUARY 2019. RECENTLY, THE LIGHT STOPPED ILLUMINATING AGAIN ONLY TO FIND THIS SAME SOCKET HAS MELTED AS THE PREVIOUS ONE DID. IF THIS PATTERN PERSISTS, IT COULD COST $1300 PER YEAR TO HAVE MAZDA FIX IT. THE SPLICED HARNESS TELLS ME THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AT LEAST ONCE BEFORE! BEFORE BUYING THIS MAZDA I FOUND A REVIEW ON KELLY BLUE BOOK'S WEBSITE WITH ONE FRUSTRATED OWNER THAT HAD A SIMILAR REOCCURRING PROBLEM EVERY 3 MONTHS. AT THE TIME I THOUGHT IT MAY BE AN ANOMALY. I BELIEVE UPON INVESTIGATION YOU WILL FIND IT'S MORE OF A PERPETUAL SAFETY HAZARD, INCONVENIENCE AND EXPENSE. I WILL SEND DOCUMENTS AND PHOTOS WITH THIS REQUEST FOR A RECALL INVESTIGATION.

MY BRAKE PEDDLE BEGAN HISSING AND MY VEHICLE DOES NOT WANT TO STOP WHEN IN MOTION, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED IT WAS THE BRAKE BOOSTER WHICH IS A PROBLEM MAZDA HAS BEEN HAVING, BUT MY VEHICLE IS NOT IN THE YEARS SPECIFIED IN THE WARRANTY EXTENTION. THE DEALERSHIP STATED MAZDA IS NOT WILLING TO HELP OR FIX THE ISSUE, AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. IT IS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THE EARLIER MODELS HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING AND ARE BEING FIXED AND MINE IS NOT. MAXDA IS AWARE OF THIS DEFECT AND WILL NOT HELP ME. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 58K MILES AND SHOULD HAVE THESES ISSUES. THE HARD BRAKE PEDDLE AND HARD BRAKING OCCURS ON ROADWAYS, IN DRIVEWAYS ANYTIME THE VEHICLE IS MOVING. IT IS UNSAFE AND I HAVE AVOIDED SEVERAL COLLISIONS.

WE HAVE 2015 MAZDA CX-9 WITH 8400 MILES THAT HAS A LEAK ON THE BREAK MASTER CYLINDER. WHICH THE DEALERSHIP WAS DENYING TO BE A LEAK BECAUSE THEY SAW AN OLD DRY DEBRIS ON TOP OF THE FLUID DEPOT. BUT HAVE IT CHECKED TO AN OUTSIDE MECHANIC BECAUSE WE'VE BEEN HAVING A SHIMMY PROBLEM WHEN BRAKING FOR MOTHS AND THEY STILL CAN'T FIGURE AS TO WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR VEHICLE. ALL THEY ARE SAYING IS THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM THAT I AM SAYING. TO CUT THE LONG STORY SHORT WE BROUGHT OUR VEHICLE TO THEIR SERVICE AGAIN TO FIX THE BREAK FLUID LEAK ON THE CYLINDER BUT THEY ARE SAYING THEY WILL NOT FIX IT BECAUSE THERES ENOUGH FLUID ON THE RESERVOIR AND THEY ARE SAYING THAT THE FLUID MIGHT HAVE COME FROM THE CAP BECAUSE OF AN OLD LEAK DEBRIS. BUT I TOLD THEM THAT I WILL NOT GOING TO BE THAT MUCH FLUID UNDERNEATH THE BREAK BOOSTER AND AOUND THAT AREA. BUT THEY STILL INSIST THAT THEY'RE NOT GONNA FIX IT. PROBABLY THEY ARE WAITING FOR US TO GET HURT BEFORE THEY WILL ACTION ON IT.

WHILE STOPPED IN TRAFFIC I WAS HIT FROM BEHIND BY A CAR AT MINIMUM GOING 40MPH WHILE PROPELLED MY CAR INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. We have a 2015 Mazda CX-9 Touring with All-Wheel Drive (AWD). The issue that has been happening is a flashing check engine light (CEL) indicator showing up in the gauge cluster. This issue originally started in October of 2023. I was on the highway doing at least 55 miles per hour (mph). Before the light actually came on, I had already felt the vehicle shaking, and also noticed the acceleration was sluggish. In the blink of an eye, the CEL came on and started flashing. After that point, the CEL stayed on. I was able to get to my destination safely. We took the vehicle to a shop, and told the mechanics the issue, but they could not re-create what happened. We stopped driving the vehicle as much after this first encounter. A couple of months later, the issue still persisted, and we took it to another shop. They changed the spark plugs, and the vehicle had been driving CEL-free for several months. Recently, we were going to take the vehicle out for a drive, and noticed the vehicle shaking (before the CEL officially came on) again. The CEL flashed and came on. As of this moment, the CEL pops up and stays on when starting the vehicle. I put in a code reader, and the code that came up was “PO304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected.” We are figuring out what our next plan(s) is/are with the vehicle. I looked at some forums for the 2007-2015 Mazda CX-9 Generation, and I noticed that someone mentioned that there was an issue with the injector pigtail wire (one of the fuel injectors). They also mentioned spark plugs and coil plugs. But they still had an issue and it seemed to be not resolved. I'm wondering if this issue could have a direct or indirect connection with the Takata Airbag recall that was issued on August 13th, 2024 with a "Do Not Drive" alert.

The contact owns a 2015 Mazda CX9. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle shut off. The contact stated that the engine was overheating. The contact restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle stalled again. The vehicle continued to coast into a parking lot. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the water pump, timing chain, cam phaser, timing chain tensioner, and an engine replacement were needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 124,000.

I was driving into the highway and my vehicle just shut off. I was in the car with my children and I was scared that we were going to be rear ended. I had my mechanic look at the car and he advised me that the water pump leaked and the coolant leaked into the oil. I’m having another mechanic provide me with an estimate of how much the repair is going to cost. After the car shut off and I tried to turn it in again the batter, engine and oils light went off and I had the car towed to the local mechanic.

ONE SERVICE MANAGER AT BROWNING MAZDA STATED THE FRONT ROTORS ARE TOO SMALL TO STOP A CAR OF THIS WEIGHT, BUT THIS STATEMENT IS NOT WRITTEN. REGARDING THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL, WHEN I TURN LEFT AND GO DOWNHILL FROM MY DRIVEWAY AT A SLOW SPEED OF APPROX 10MPH, I USUALLY HAVE NO THROTTLE CONTROL. WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN JUNE OF 2015 AND ABOUT 2 OR 3 MOTHS AFTER I NOTICED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE ROTOR HAD A DEEP SCRATCH ON IT. THEY FIXED IT BY SANDING THE ROTOR INSTED OF REPLACING THE ROTOR. NEXT TIME I BROUGHT WAS AN OIL LEAK ON THE FRONT SIDE OF THE MOTOR ABOUT 4000MILES. THEY SAID THAT THE OIL FILTER IS LOOSED. SO ME AND MY WIFE WENT HOME HAVING SOME PIECEOF MIND THAT I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY WILL DO THE RIGHT THING. BUT AT 7000 MILES I BROUGHT OUR VEHICLE FOR FIRST OIL CHANGE AND TOLD THEM THERES A SCREECHING SOUND ON ONE OF THE PULLEYS IN THE MOTOR. ALSO THE STEERING WHEEL IS SHAKING DRIVING AT 55 MPH OR HIGHER ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE LIGHTLY BREAKING AT THAT SPEED. BUT UPON ARRIVING AT THE HOUSE TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL I NOTICE A BIG SCRATCH ON THE HOOD I WAS AGGRAVATED AT THAT MOMENT BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T DO A THING TO MY CONCERNS AND NOW THIS IS WHAT YOU WILL SEE. BY THE WAY WE HAVE A BLACK CX-9 AND YOU CAN EASILY SPOT A SCRACT IF THERE IS ONE. BUT THAT'S NOT THE MOST FRUSTRATING PART OF IT. BECAUSE WHEN I WENT UNDERNEATH THE CAR TO CHECK THE OIL FILTER. I NOTICED THAT THE FILTER WAS LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MOTOR AND THERES NO WAY THAT IF LEAKS HAPPEN ON THAT SPOT THAT IT WILL GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FRONT SIDE OF THE MOTOR NEAR THE PULLEYS WHERE MY PREVIOUS OIL LEAKED COMPLAINT WAS. I THINK THEY WERE TRYING TO HIDE TO AVOID WARRANTY REPAIR ON IT. SO I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE AND MY WIFE BROUGHT IT OVER THERE. I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW ON SEPTEMBER 18,2015. HAVING THE CAR FOR 3 MONTHS I HAVE BEEN AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT 3 TIMES. I GOT HOME THE FIRST DAY AND THE BELT WAS NOT REGISTERING AND WAS MAKING NOISE WHEN I HAD IT ON. THE LAST 2 TIMES I CONTINUE TO HEAR NOISE COMING FROM THE CAR. THE NOISE IS HEARD FROM UNDERNEATH AND IT HAS TO BE DRIVEN FOR SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MINUTES BEFORE THE NOISE GOES AWAY. I RECORDED THE NOISE ON NOVEMBER 28,2015 AND CALLED THE DEALER VERY UPSET BECAUSE ITS A PROBLEM THAT'S NOT BEING ADDRESSED AND FIXED. I DROPPED THE CAR OFF ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 30,2015 AND WAS TOLD YESTERDAY DECEMBER 1,2015 THAT THEY DONT SEE THE PROBLEM.THIS IS A NEW CAR AND I NEVER TEST DRIVEN BEFORE BUYING. I NEED HELP. I HAVE THE RECORDING BUT I CANT ATTACH IT ON HERE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE DRIVER SIDE MIRROR VIBRATED CAUSING THE CONTACT'S VISION TO BECOME DISTORTED THROUGH THE MIRROR. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE OBJECTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
