Infotainment system randomly clicks and selects items on the screen while driving.
Jan 01, 2025
From the information I have gathered, this is a common issue affecting many Mazdas ranging from 2014 to 2018. The issue is what the Mazda Community calls "Ghost touch" Our infotainment screens will start clicking buttons on its own including increasing the volume or switching screens. Additionally songs will switched. Why is this a safety hazard? This causes a distraction that can occur at any moment. For instance, if you are driving down the highway and all of a sudden your volume goes up to an unpleasant volume, your natural reaction is to turn down the volume, causing a distraction. Same can be said about song switching or screen repeatedly changing.

My display infotainment system is acting weird and when I am driving all of a sudden it auto touches and changing brightness, increasing volume, changing tracks when playing music. It's very distracting and pose a serious safety risk. When I looked on the internet, there are a lot of people who also posting about the same issue. Please consider this as priority and fix it.

The infotainment system randomly changes the screen very rapidly, "ghosting". The screen didn't and brightens very rapidly while driving, going from night to day modes or vice versa even though I set it on auto mode. The worst is that it randomly makes calls to people in my contact list. This can very easily cause a crash.

My infotainment center experiences a ghost touch, typically in hot weather, where it just randomly starts pressing buttons on the touch screen, increases volume, hits play/pause over and over again. It is VERY distracting when it occurs while I’m driving

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Infotainment system continually has ghost touches and opens apps, changes radio stations glitches on the screen while the car is driving making it extremely dangerous to drive as it affects volume also. Sometimes it will just start blaring at full volume. Happens everytime I drive
Jan 06, 2025
The issue I'm experiencing seems to be common, and is called the "infotainment ghost touch screen issue" The electric screen that shows maps, radio stations, chapters in books I'm listening to, driving directions, etc. starts fluctuating wildly whenever I'm approaching traffic lights. This causes a series of loud beeps and screen fluctuations that are not only distracting but startling --especially if I'm not listening to the radio and the car is quiet. The warranty on the electronic screen has expired but the car is in perfect shape other than this issue (which Mazda knows about). The screen is very expensive to fix or replace. Recently, when the infotainment screen fluctuates the mileage and other dashboard screens start fluctuating as well; they're in my line of vision and are distracting and therefore dangerous, especially on Miami's already dangerous highways. I'd like to bring the car to the Mazda dealership and have this issue fixed without incurring a cost.

The infotainment system on my car randomly repeatedly and frequently registers inputs when I am not making any. This has happened more times than I can count over the past several years. It will call people in my contacts, change settings on my car including safety settings, it will blast the volume, turn the volume all the way down, etc. This causes me to repeatedly take my eyes off the road to undo all of the unwarranted inputs which is a safety concern and has almost caused an accident at least once. There is an open recall for model years 2014 to 2016 for this exact issue. I am not sure why there is no 2017 recall since this is the exact same problem of "ghost touch" in previous model years.

2017 Mazda 6 with the dreaded "ghost touch" on the infotainment system. Driving along, the screen freaks out, volume goes up, station changes, screen goes almost black, bass goes up, fader goes to back... Very disappointing that Mazda knows about the problem and continues to build cars with this issue. Why only recall 2014-2016 Mazda 3's when it's happening across all models and into the 2020 models? Won't buy a Mazda again.
Feb 15, 2024
The infotainment system will have repeated ghost touches rendering the screen virtually useless. This is a known issue that mazda is not repairing and they are making the car owner responsible on paying for the fix of their broken product.

Coolant leaked into my engine system . Now dealership says a new engine is needed
Jun 16, 2025
I have a 2017 Mazda 6 that has an extremely loud engine. I have taken it in and I’m told the car is fine but I can feel the engine knocking through the pedal as I drive. The sound has gotten louder over time and it’s not getting any better. I’ve had some belts change and keep up my regular maintenance and Mazda can’t seem to figure out what the issue is. I have friends with the same model and their engine sounds normal.

I BOUGHT MY 2017 MAZDA 6 BRAND NEW. WHILE THE CAR WAS IN WARRANTY IN JANUARY 2020 WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH 50 MILES IN HOUR, THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH, THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND THE ENGINE STALL. THE CAR WAS TOWED BY MAZDA AT DEALER. THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AT THAT TIME. FEW DAYS AGO WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH 35 MILES IN HOUR THE CAR DID THE SAME THING. MAZDA TOWED THE CAR TO ANOTHER DEALER. AFTER DIAGNOSIS THEY TOLD ME THAT IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND THE CAR IS NOT UNDER THE WARRANTY ANYMOORE . I TOLD THEM THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG. THEY DIDN'T RESPOND. THE CAR HAS 24,000 MILES AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ANYMORE.

My sunroof exploded while I was driving on the 405 S freeway. It can be inspected at any time as I haven’t had it repaired or inspected by anyone yet. It happened while I was driving at least 65 mph in the fast lane. It sounded like a gunshot and startled me greatly. Glass flew everywhere and I believe hit cars around me as I heard multiple vehicles honk. This was a very scary and dangerous experience. There were no warnings and I’ve never had any issues with my sunroof. Nothing fell on my vehicle or impacted the glass. Thankfully no one was hurt but this is extremely concerning.

I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AT ~40MPH ON A PAVED ROAD AT ABOUT 830PM, NO OTHER CARS IN FRONT OF MY, WHEN I HEARD A NOISE LIKE A CANNON GOING OFF. I LOOKED UP, AND MY SUN ROOF HAD COMPLETELY SHATTERED: THERE WERE LARGE CHUNKS OF GLASS INSIDE THE CAR, AND EXTENSIVE SCRATCH MARKS ON THE REAR TRUNK COVER. UPON PULLING OVER AND INSPECTING THE DAMAGE, IT APPEARED THAT THE SUN ROOF GLASS HAD EXPLODED OUTWARDS (AS SHOWN IN THE PROVIDED PICTURES), WITH SEVERAL PARTS OF THE REMAINING GLASS BEING DISTINCTLY ANGLED UPWARDS AND VERY LITTLE ACTUAL SHATTERED GLASS BEING INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THIS CAR, AND DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT IS JUST OVER A MONTH AND A HALF OLD WITH A 3 YEAR BUMPER TO BUMPER AND A 10 YEAR SERVICE PACKAGE, I HAVE ALREADY BEEN TOLD THAT IT WAS "MORE THAN LIKELY A ROCK HITTING IT", THAT "THEY'VE NEVER HAD ANY REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING", AND HAVE BEEN ADVISED TO JUST CONTACT MY INSURANCE AND HAVE THEM PAY. THIS LANGUAGE AND RESPONSE IS IN LOCK-STEP WITH SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS THAT I HAVE VIEWED REGARDING THIS ISSUE, WHICH APPEARS TO BE QUITE WIDESPREAD. MANY OF THEM REPORTED THAT THE IMMEDIATE RESPONSE FROM THE DEALERSHIPS IN QUESTION WAS TO BLAME EXTERNAL FACTORS, VERY COMMONLY ROCKS. IN MY CASE, GIVEN THAT I WAS DRIVING ALONE ON A WELL-PAVED ROAD AND THE SUN ROOF WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME, I FIND IT INCREDIBLY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT A ROCK SOMEHOW HIT IT AT THE EXACT ANGLE NECESSARY TO CAUSE THE ENTIRE THING TO SIMPLY FALL APART. IF THIS IS THE CASE, WELL, I WOULDN'T FEEL SAFE HAVING A CAR WITH A SUN ROOF AT ALL.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

I’ve had my 2017 Mazda6 for 2 years and first had an issue when the vehicle could not detect the key fob was near. A Mazda dealership at that time could not resolve the issue. Now at times the vehicle won’t start unless i physically hover the key fob over the push to start button. I continued with the purchase and now 2 years in I’ve had so many issues with the infotainment screen acting insane, known as “ghost touching”. When coming to a stop the screen will start clicking around to different screen settings on the monitor. It’s incredibly frustrating and unsafe trying to resolve this issue in the middle of Dallas traffic. Earlier this year I had to make 6 hour trip up north and cruise control caused an issue the entire ride there. When cruise control was turned on the vehicle would start to accelerate on its own. I’m familiar with cruise control and how to use it. No button to increase speed or gas were used to increase the speed at that time, and when I tried to decrease speed from the steering wheel, the button would not work, only working when the break was pressed. Last I checked, cruise control is no longer working in the vehicle. I am terrified to learn of the other issues that could come of the electrical issue I’m having with the car. The electrical issues reported from myself and others need to be a cause for a concern and a recall NEEDS to happen!! I have also noticed the collision avoidance light will turn on and off, I’m not sure if this is related to the above issues but am certain that the key fob light that stays on, never shutting off is related. Please help!!

My "infotainment" system was experiencing ghost touching. In other words, the touch screen in the car that controls everything from radio to bluetooth to settings for safety features such as braking assist and automatic sensor wipers would completely go crazy and select/unselect features in the touchscreen. Sometimes it was one touch at a time (ie, change the radio station). Over time, and the more humid it was outside, I would have drives where every time the car was under 10mph, the touchscreen would go berserk. The car does have a feature where you cannot change settings when the car is going faster than 10mph, so thankfully this could not happen continuously. I had many instances where I would be braking to stop at a red light and the volume of the radio would go up so high that you would immediately cover your ears. (I keep radio at volume 10-15 and go to 30 when I want it really loud, it would go to 50 or more by itself). Obviously this is not good when you are at 10mph and still coming to a stop with a car in front of you. The first time it happened, I was so unaware that I immediately slammed on the brakes to a complete stop and the car behind me barely missed hitting me. Other instances involved the ghost touching turning off the "brake assist" option in the settings and turning off the "rain sensing wipers" feature all while driving. I would have to wait until my destination, then turn off the car and then turn back on to turn these safety features back on for the next drive. Obviously this is not good safety, when these safety features turn off during a drive. It got to the point I would not drive my kids in the car anymore. The Mazda dealer did not understand what was happening, but a quick Google search shows this issue for 2017 Mazda 6 and 2014-2016 Mazda3. Thats alot of cars and the only fix is to replace the touchscreen. I replaced mine in the summer of 2021 and paid well over $900. This needs to be recalled to prevent future issues for owners.

SERVICE BRAKES
2 complaints
System failure: front and rear hydraulic brakes. Yes, the safety of the driver and passenger were put at risk. No, the problem was not confirmed by the dealer or service center. Why not? See below: a) As the brake components (brake pads) were assumed to be wear items and not covered under warranty, the brake components were replaced (brake rotors and pads) and the calipers were rebuilt. c) The brake service work was performed by the owner of the vehicle (complaint writer). There were no lamps/icons nor messages displayed to alert the vehicle owner of the malfunction. On June 05, 2021 while driving in the Traverse City MI area descending steep hills, it was noticed that the brake pedal required above normal force to slow the vehicle. In July 2021 with approximately 21000 miles, I disassembled the front and rear brake components to investigate the root cause of the brake performance decline. The front and rear calipers were observed to have very minimal caliper lubricant on the caliper pins and sleeves and evidence of corrosion. The front brake pads were worn approximately 50% and rear pads were worn about 90-100% (no friction material remaining). See attached files. New brake rotors and pads were installed and the calipers were rebuilt. On August 04 2021, I contacted the Mazda Customer Experience Center to advise of the brake system malfunction. Service Request Number 1-4195762982 was assigned. On August 26 2021, I brought the brake pads and rotors to Serra Mazda to advise/alert Mazda of the premature brake pad wear. The Service/Parts Director was given the brake pads in order that the components could be forwarded to Mazda for a "PQR" to be initiated. No response has been received. The vehicle has been serviced at Serra Mazda since 2018 and no statements were made to the vehicle owner that the brake pads were below the service limit.

ALL ROTORS, PADS AND CALIPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED AFTER ONLY 15,000 MILES ON THIS NEW VEHICLE. THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS UNRELIABLE ON THE HIGHWAY AND AT RISK OF LOCKING UP DUE TO RUSTING OF ALL COMPONENTS. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN MISSISSIPPI THEN HOUSED IN FLORIDA FOR 90% OF ITS LIFE. IT HAS NOT BEEN EXPOSED TO FLOOD OR EXCESSIVE STANDING WATER, NOR UP NORTH AT ALL. HTTPS://VIDEO.37483.NET/HOUGN3BG

SITUATION: CVT TRAMSMISSION RUNNING SMOOTHLY WHEN CAR WAS FIRST BOUGHT. I AM 3 WEEKS INTO OWNING THE VEHICLE AND THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO BE GOING OUT. I HAD A DIAGNOSTIC TEXT RUN AND THERE ARE ZERO COMPUTER ERRORS. ISSUES: HIGH REVS AND JERKING OF VEHICLE WHEN GASSED. WHETHER I AM AT A STAND STILL OR ALREADY GIVING GAS. ANY INCREASED SPEED APPLIED BY THE GAS CAUSES THE JERKING MOTION. THERE IS A 2-5 SECOND DELAY FROM THE PEDAL TO THE TRANSMISSION KICKING. I HAVE ALMOST WRECKED MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN THIS ISSUE STARTED OCCURRING ON MY DRIVE. THIS CVT WOULD BE CONSIDERED VERY HAZARDOUS CONSIDERING THE SPECIFIC PROBLEMS I AM EXPERIENCING.

ON THE NIGHT OF 6/22/2018 I WAS TRAVELING BACK TO MISSOURI FROM FLORIDA GOING ABOUT 60-65 MPH ON A INTERCHANGE FROM I-75 TO I-24 WHEN MY CAR LOCKED UP COMPLETELY, IT SENT ME INTO A SPIN THAT I OVER CORRECTED AND THREW THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND HAD TO CORRECT MY STEERING FROM HITTING A GUARD RAIL WHILE AVOIDING 2 SEMIS AND 2 CARS. WE ACTUALLY GOT OUT OF THIS SITUATION BY THE GRACE OF GOD AND NOT A SINGLE SCRATCH TO US OR THE CAR. FOUND OUT THIS MORNING 6/25/2018 THAT OUR TRANSMISSION WAS THE CAUSE AND IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPLACED. IS THERE ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SITUATION. AND THE CAR HAS ONLY 18306 MILES ON IT AND IT'S A 2017 MAZDA6.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

The part was purchased via Rock auto and installed at home DIY. The vehicle failed to return form "maintenance" mode for the rear parking brake. Took it to a Mazda dealer and they determined the Calipers were both manufactured incorrectly or the "spline gear" in the rear of the caliper that meshes to the Electronic Parking Brake actuator. This caused the parking brake to stay in maintenance mode, making it unusable for parking nor emergency braking, making the vehicle undrivable. It also caused Damage that incurred costs for parts and labor of the vehicle. The vehicle can still be driven and the only way to know its potentially unsafe is the light in the dash for the brake maintenance mode. At this time its unclear if this is the only issue with this part. Jason at Dynamic Friction technical support is investigating.

The contact owns a 2017 Mazda Mazda6. The contact stated while driving at slower speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, there was a delay before the vehicle responded. Additionally, the contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, the contact became aware of a fuel leak on the driveway. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed and the contact was informed that the fuel tank was rusted and the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced. The local dealer was contacted, and the contact was referred to the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired because the warranty had expired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

2017 Mazda6 Infotainment System also found in Mazda CX-5. Known as "Ghost Touch," it is a known issue acknowledged by the company and dealerships. Available for inspection upon request. The Infotainment system controls navigation, ADAS heads up navigation, illumination of instruments and other driver instrumentation and safety warning systems. Above a set speed the screen is NOT a touch screen. When the car slows below a preset speed or is stopped, the display screen becomes a touch screen. The screen will then randomly and intermittently begin to reset itself, changing between and altering settings. This was repaired by Mazda on pre-2016 models, but Mazda declined on 2017-2020 models. This has the potential of causing accidents by making instrumentation unreadable, random dialing bluetooth phone connections, etc. As stated search for "Ghost touch Mazda" and you will find many references and complaints. The problem is ongoing since 2021. The component has apparently been upgraded but will cost 700+ to repair.

Mazda 6's from 2017 have a known, reported defect that causes the touch screen to "ghost touch" and randomly enter into the car's menus and change settings, dial phone numbers, delete entries, etc. There is a service bulletin issued to replace the touchscreen cover/lens but Mazda does not honor this repair for cars out of warranty and want to charge customers for this repair. This is a potential liability since the car can change safety settings that a driver is accustomed and relies on without their knowledge possibly resulting in serious injury or death.

I PURCHASED A 2017 MAZDA 6 GRAND TOURING IN JULY 2017, NEW FROM CLASSIC MAZDA IN MENTOR, OHIO. THE DUNLOP TIRES THAT CAME ON MY CARE ARE COMPLETE GARBAGE AND UNSUITABLE TO DRIVE ON IN THE RAIN. THEY BEGIN TO HYDROPLANE WITH EVEN THE SLIGHTEST AMOUNT OF WATER ON THE ROAD, AND ARE DOWN RIGHT DANGEROUS IN ANY WEATHER MORE SEVERE THAN LIGHT RAIN. THERE HAVE BEEN DOZENS OF INSTANCES OF WHITE-KNUCKLE DRIVING 10-15MPH SLOWER THAN THE REST OF TRAFFIC BECAUSE THE CAR BECOMES UNDERIVABLE IN THE RAIN. I HAVE NEVER DRIVEN A VEHICLE OR TIRES THAT PERFORMED THIS POORLY NOR HAD SUCH A STARK TRANSITION FROM FEELING PLANTED AND CONFIDENCE INSPIRING IN THE DRY TO SLIDING OFF THE ROAD WHEN IT RAINS. THESE TIRES ARE GOING TO GET ME INJURED OR KILLED! AS BAD AS THEY ARE BRAND NEW ON A BRAND NEW CAR, I SHUDDER TO THINK WHAT IT WILL BE LIKE AS THESE BEGIN TO WEAR!!
