I WAS ON MY WAY TO BUY SOME FOOD SUPPLIES FOR WEEKEND. I WAS LOOKING FOR A PARKING LOT AT LOW SPEED, SO WHEN I STEPPED ONTO THE CLUTCH PEDAL TO PUT BACK TO NEUTRAL AND PARKED SUDDENLY I HEARD A CRACK. AT THAT TIME I DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS UNTIL 30 MINUTES OF SHOPPING LATER, I STARTED THE ENGINE AND FELT A LITTLE ODD ABOUT THE PEDAL CLUTCH. THE CLUTCH PEDAL WAS FUNCTION A LITTLE ODD WHEN I STEPPED INTO THE PEDAL, I FELT LIKE IT DIDN'T RELEASE COMPLETELY. FORTUNATELY, I MADE A THE WAY HOME AND CHECKED. AS I WAS PRESSING MY CLUTCH PEDAL TO PLACE MY CAR INTO FIRST GEAR, I HEARD AND FELT A SNAP IN THE CLUTCH. I THEN NOTICED THAT MY CLUTCH WOULD NOT FULLY DISENGAGE AND I HAD TROUBLE PLACING MY CAR INTO GEARS AND OUT OF THEM. ONCE I ARRIVED HOME I EXAMINED MY CLUTCH AND NOTICED THAT THE BRACKET HAD SNAPPED. I CONTACTED THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD MY CAR WAS NO LONGER COVERED BY THE WARRANTY AND I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE PART OUT OF POCKET FOR A FLAW THAT MAZDA CREATED. *TR

THE POWER STEERING WILL BE WORKING ONE MOMENT, CUT OUT, THEN OVERSTEER CAUSING THE DRIVER TO QUICKLY MAKE UP FOR THE JERK. MAZDA PLEASE RECALL. ALL THE EVIDENCE IS THERE, AND YOUR TECHNICIANS AT THE DEALERSHIP ARE ALL AWARE OF HOW PREVALENT THIS PROBLEM IS. THE COOLANT RESERVOIR LEAKING COOLANT OVER THE STEERING HARNESS IS A DESIGN FLAW. I PURCHASED A USED 2005 MAZDA RX-8 FROM A DEALER. SIGNED A WARRANTY ALTHOUGH THERE WERE NOT A BUYERS GUIDE OR A USED CAR STICKER DISPLAYED ANYWHERE ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ORIGINALLY BELONGED TO MAZDA BOMMARITO AS EVIDENCED BY THE FADED RESIDUAL IMPRINT OF THE BOMMARITO LETTERING THAT HAD BEEM REMOVED LIKELY DUE TO BEING UNWANTED INVENTORY. I KNEW AHEAD OF TIME THAT THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE HAS A ROTARY ENGINE THAT REQUIRES STANDARD MAINTENANCE AND CARE WHICH I HAVE BEEN PERFORMING AND DOCUMENTING ALONG WITH ALL RECALLS. THESE INCLUDE- LET THE ENGINE WARM UP, REGULARLY TOPPED OFF ALL FLUIDS DECARBED AND CLEANED SENSORS ETC INTERNAL MAINTENANCE CARE/BREAK IN PERIOD AND REPLACED SPARK PLUGS/ LEADS WITH FACTORY GENUINE OEM FIRST HAND. AFTER OWNING IT LESS THAN A YEAR, WITH ONLY 50K MILES ON IT, IT BEGAN TO RUN VERY POORLY. I HAD THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AND HAVE DOCUMENTATION AND RECORDS OF WORK FROM SEVERAL INDEPENDENT MECHANICS, SHOPS AND OFFICIAL MAZDA DEALERSHIP(BOMMARITO WHERE IT WAS ORIGINALLY TRANSPORTED FROM TO THE NEIGHBORING DEALER) IM PAYING $8,000 FOR AT IT AND DROVE IT FOR LESS THAN A YEAR AND IN SPITE OF REGULAR UPKEEP IT LOST COMPRESSION IN ITS REAR ROTOR. II HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY NOTICE FROM MAZDA THAT COVERS ROTARY ENGINE CORE REPLACEMENTS. HOWEVER SINCE ITS "USED" IT MIGHT NOT BE COVERED BY MY STATES LEMON LAW. THERE ARE 1000'S OF OWNERS DEALING WITH THE SAME ISSUES ON BEHALF OF MAZDA. I MAILED THE SUBSEQUENT OWNERSHIP NOTIFICATION TO THE MAZDA IMPORTER TO TRANSFER THE RECORDS OF THE PREVIOUS OWNERS ON A LEASE PURCHASE WHICH I HAVE DOCUMENTATION OF ALTHOUGH THE DEALER WOULD NOT GIVE ME ANY INFO ABOUT THE COUPES HISTROY WHICH SEEMS DISHONEST.. THE DEALERSHIP IS NOT ENTIRELY AT FAULT. MAZDA IS TOO. HAVE ALL THIS IN PAPERWORK. I AM AWAITING A RETURN NOTICE FROM MAZDA ABOUT TRANSFER OF WARRANTY FROM THE PREVIOUS OWNER(S) DOCUMENTS ARE BELOW.

I BELIEVE SAFETY AND EMISSIONS RECALL 0516J IS CAUSING MY CAR TO TURN OFF WHILE IN MOTION, IT CAN BE IN NEUTRAL OR IN GEAR. I CALLED MAZDA CORP AND TOLD THEM THE VEHICLE TURNS OFF WHILE IN MOTION AND BELIEVE IT'S CAUSE BY THE RECALL; THEY SAID THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE A SOLUTION AT THE MOMENT AND DID NOT SUGGEST ANYTHING BUT WAIT. THIS IS A DAILY DRIVING CAR AND I CAN NOT AFFORD TO CALL OUT OF WORK BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE. I WOULD SUGGEST A COURTESY VEHICLE WHILE THIS RECALL IS BEING FIXED.

THERE IS A FLAW IN THE MAZDA RX8 ENGINE. IT IS WHY THEY STOPPED MAKING THEM IN 2011. THE ENGINES HAVE BAD APEX SEALS. AS A RESULT - THE SEALS BLOW AROUND 70 THOUSAND MILES AND THE ENGINE IS USELESS. MAZDA REPLACED MY ENGINE IN 2011. HOWEVER - IT DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE ENGINE STILL SHUTS DOWN IN TRAFFIC. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. WHEN YOU ARE COMING TO A STOP OR SLOWING DOWN THE ENGINE WILL JUST SHUT OFF. IT HAS ALSO SHUT OFF WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PASS IN THE LEFT LANE WHILE ACCELERATING ON THE HIGHWAY. IT ALSO HAS SOMETHING CALLED A HOT NON-START - THIS MEANS - IT WILL NOT START WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT. YOU HAVE TO WAIT 20 MINUTES FOR THE CAR TO COOL BEFORE IT CAN START. IF THERE IS NO EMERGENCY LANE WHEN YOUR CAR SHUTS DOWN - YOU ARE IN TROUBLE AND IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION,. I HAVE BEEN STUCK NUMEROUS TIMES IN TRAFFIC AND THEN THE CAR UNABLE TO START. ALSO AS A RESULT OF THIS HOT NON-START- YOU HAVE TO FUEL YOUR CAR WITH IT RUNNING OR YOU WILL HAVE TO SIT AND WAIT AT THE GAS PUMP FOR 20 MINUTES BEFORE IT CAN START. THIS HAS OCCURRED BEFORE THEY REPLACED MY ENGINE FROM 2009 THRU 2011 AND NOW WITH A NEW ENGINE FROM 2012 THRU 2015 THEY ALSO NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED FOR FRAUD. I LEASED MY CAR FOR 3 YEARS. I THEN PURCHASED IT AND FINANCED IT FOR 5 YEARS IN 2008. MAZDA KNEW THESE ENGINES WERE FLAWED - BUT THEY WERE STILL SELLING THEM TO PEOPLE WHEN THIS ENGINE ISSUE HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE 2005. THE CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. ALSO - THE APEX SEALS CAN BLOW WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING THE WHICH MEANS THE CAR WILL SHUT DOWN IN TRAFFIC AS WELL. I AM NOT ALONE - SEARCH MAZDA RX8 ENGINE ISSUES ON GOOGLE - EVERYONE HAS THE PROBLEM.

HOWEVER, I LEFT USA LAST FALL AND CURRENTLY SETTLED DOWN IN KOREA. I ALSO TOOK MY CAR (2005 MAZDA RX8) FROM USA TO KOREA. IN TERMS OF SAFETY RECALL NOTICES, I ASKED MAZDA USA TO SOLVE TWO SAFETY RECALL ISSUES (MAZDA RECALL #: 1017E—FUEL TANK LEAK AS WELL AS 9416E—TAKATA RECALL) FOR MY CAR. UNFORTUNATELY, THERE ARE NO MAZDA DEALER SHOPS IN KOREA, SO I ASKED TO MAZDA USA TO SEND THE PARTS VIA THE MAIL TO REPLACE BAD PARTS FOR MY CAR. HOWEVER, THEY REJECTED MY REQUESTS AND THEY SAID ONLY MAZDA (CERTIFIED) MECHANIC SHOULD COMPLETE THE REPAIRS. I AM WONDERING IF I CAN SOLVE THESE SERIOUS SAFETY RECALL ISSUES. WE WERE ALSO INFORMED THAT THE MAZDA DEALER WOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS AS IT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. BESIDES THE FACT THAT WE HAD TO CUT THE SEAT BELT TO GET HIM OUT, THE FACT THAT HE WAS ABLE TO GET THE BUCKLE LOCKED INTO THE REAR RECEIVER AND COULD NOT DISENGAGE IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. 1. MOST MODELS OF THE 2005 RX-8 ARE EQUIPPED WITH HID HEADLIGHTS. IN ORDER TO PREVENT ACCIDENTS, THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE A "CUTOFF" THAT PREVENT BLINDING ONCOMING DRIVERS, WHICH I UNDERSTAND IS REQUIRED BY LAW. THE HEADLIGHTS ON THIS VEHICLE HAVE AN AUTOLEVELING FUNCTION WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO LEVEL THE HEADLIGHTS AT THE PROPER HEIGHT DEPENDENT ON THE POSITION OF THE CAR'S SUSPENSION. THE HEADLIGHT LEVELERS ARE CONTROLLED BY TWO SENSORS, ONE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT AND ONE ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEEL HUB, CONNECTED TO THE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. THERE IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THESE SENSORS WHICH CAUSES THE HEADLIGHT LEVELERS TO MALFUNCTION, AIMING THE HEADLIGHTS EITHER TOO LOW (WHICH CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IN THE RX-8) OR TOO HIGH (WHICH CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT BY BLINDING ONCOMING TRAFFIC). THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR LOCATED BENEATH THE CAR AT EACH SENSOR THAT MOISTURE CAN GET INSIDE, CAUSING CORROSION. THIS CAUSES THE SENSORS TO FAIL AND THE HEADLIGHTS WILL AUTO-AIM THEMSELVES IN ANY ORIENTATION, AND THIS CANNOT BE OVERRIDDEN...I KNOW, I HAVE TRIED REPEATEDLY TO MANUALLY RE-AIM THEM MYSELF. MANUALLY RESETTING THE HEADLIGHTS WILL ONLY CAUSE THE HEADLIGHTS TO MIS-AIM THEMSELVES AGAIN WHEN THE CAR IS RESTARTED AND THE SENSORS RETURN FAULTY SIGNALS. CURRENTLY, MY HEADLIGHTS ARE AIMED FAR TOO HIGH FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND I ROUTINELY GET "FLASHED" BY OTHER DRIVERS. DRIVING MY CAR AT NIGHT IS UNSAFE FOR MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS DUE TO THIS DEFECT. I PURCHASED AN 05 MAZDA RX8 IN JAN OF THIS YEAR. SEVERAL WEEKS AGO, I WAS INFORMED BY OTHER DRIVERS THAT MY DRIVER'S HEADLIGHT CAUSES THEM A DISTRACTION BECAUSE IT GLOWS BRIGHTER, AS IF THE HIGH BEAM HAS COME ON. I HAVE SEEN THIS MYSELF WHEN I DROVE ANOTHER CAR IN FRONT OF MINE. I TOOK THE CAR INTO SERVICE AT THE LOCAL MAZDA DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE LIGHT IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY BECAUSE THE OTHER CAR ON THE LOT DOES IT ALSO." THE SPEED DECREASED FROM 70MPH TO 15MPH WITHIN 8 SECONDS. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OFF THE ROAD, WERE THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED WITH EASE, BUT THE ENGINE STILL REVVED HIGH AND THE LAMPS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WAS COMPLETED ON THE VEHICLE HOWEVER THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE. THE DEALERSHIP PERSONNEL SUGGESTED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE REMAINS AT THE DEALERSHIP WERE ADDITIONAL TESTING IS UNDERWAY.

A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS PURCHASED FROM A MAZDA DEALER IN MAYAGUEZ, PUERTO RICO ON AUGUST 29, 2009. THE SAME WAS PLACED ON THE VEHICLE, A 2005 MAZDA RX-8 SHINKA MODEL, ONE WEEK AFTER THE PURCHASE SINCE WE HAD TO WAIT FOR THE ARRIVAL OF THIS PART AND A NEW SET OF SPARK PLUGS THAT WAS ALSO PURCHASED AT A PRICE OF $200.00. THE CAR WAS NOT IN USE UNTIL THE END OF SEPTEMBER 2009. ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2009 THE CAR HAD A FAILURE AND I COULD SEE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE CAR AND THE CAR TURNED OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I COULD SMELL BURNT PLASTIC AND SAW MELTED PLASTIC COMING BELOW THE CAR. THE DAY ALL THIS HAPPENED, IT WAS RAINING SO THE CAR WAS PROTECTED FROM A FIRE DUE TO THE RAIN. I GOT PICTURES OF SOME OF THE MELTED PARTS. AFTER THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME THAT THE HEAT PRODUCED BY THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BURNED THE NEW SPARK PLUGS, THE SPARK PLUGS CABLES, THE MODULES AND THAT THERE WAS ASH ON THE SYSTEM THAT NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THEY DO NOT WANT TO REPLACE ALL THE PARTS THAT BURNED AT THE CONSEQUENCE OF THE FAULTY CATALYTIC CONVERTER SINCE MY CAR GUARANTEE WAS NO LONGER VALID. THEY DID NOT MAKE ANY EFFORTS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM KNOWING THAT ALL THE DAMAGES WERE DUE TO THE FAULTY CONDITION OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THEY WILL ONLY PROVIDE A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER ($1500.00 COST) BUT I HAVE TO PAY ABOUT THE SAME AMOUNT FOR THE REST OF THE DAMAGE. I KNEW THAT ANOTHER CLIENT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER ON THE SAME MODEL OF CAR AND THAT THE PART WAS ALSO SUPPLIED BY AUTOLAND. I HAVE SEEN ON THE INTERNET OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE FAULTY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. THE DEALER IS REPLACING THE MASTER CYCLINDER, BUT I THINK THE PROBLEM IS A RACE CONDITION BETWEEN THE AWD AND THE BRAKES - THE AWD MIGHT THINK THAT THE BRAKES ARE REALLY AN INDICATION OF SLIPPAGE, SO THE AWD TELLS THE ABS NOT TO ACTIVATE. I HAD MANY RECALLS DONE LAST YEAR. NOW, TODAY, OLIVER AT MAZDA CORPORATE SAID THAT JOE MACHENS DEALERSHIPS AREN'T EQUIPPED TO HAVE DONE THE WORK PROPERLY. RECALLS: 16V793, 17V-354 & 355, FRONT END STEARING FROM INAPPROPRIATE CAULKING OF BALL JOINT , ENGINE REPLACED TWICE, OIL MIXING WITH COOLANT, AGAIN, AND NOW MY ALARM GOES OFF AS SOON AS I START IT. JOE MACHENS TOLD ME TO REMOVE THE BATTERY. A NEW LITHIUM BATTERY IS BEING DEVELOPED BY MAZDA BECAUSE ROTARY ENGINES CAN'T USE A REGULAR BATTERY. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR SIX WEEKS LAST YEAR, AUGUST, AND KEPT YELLING THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE NEW, CORRECT PARTS. MY STEARING IS DIFFICULT AT TIMES AND THEY NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT THE RECALL CONCERNING THIS. THE SEALS DETERIORATED MAKING ISSUES. NOW THEY ARE MAKING NEW GASKETS, RINGS, ETC. TO BE HEAT RESISTANT. **RESUBMIT-DIDN'T GO THROUGH** I WAS DRIVING APPROX 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY AND FELT A KICK/JOLT AND HAD A LOSS OF POWER. AFTER ABOUT 3 MONTHS OF DAILY DRIVING (NO RACING OR HARD SHIFTING) MY CLUTCH PEDAL BROKE WHILE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT. THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE PEDAL IN PLACE BROKE DUE TO ITS VERY THIN METAL DESIGN. UPON RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ONLINE I HAVE FOUND THAT MANY RX-8 OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. 2005 MAZDA RX8: UPON DRIVING I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A LOUD CRACK. THE CLUTCH PEDAL ON MY CAR FELT 'LOOSE' AND I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO DISCOVER THAT THE WELDS ON MY CLUTCH PEDAL HAD BROKEN. FORTUNATELY I WAS ALMOST HOME BUT I HAD DIFFICULTY SHIFTING AND HAD TO BE CAREFUL AS THE CLUTCH PEDAL WAS MAKING ITS WAY TOWARDS THE BRAKE PEDAL. I'M GOING IN TODAY FOR THE THIRD TIME BECAUSE MY AC CONTINUES TO MAKE A NOISE WHEN THE FAN IS BLOWING. I CANT EVEN BEGIN TO LIST ALL OF THE PROBLEMS I'VE HAD WITH THIS CAR. JUST TO NAME A FEW I'M ON MY SECOND ENGINE, NEW BRAKES, BATTERY AND TIRES BEFORE 40K MILES AND I WAS TOLD BY THREE DIFFERENT SHOPS THAT SOMETHING IS REALLY WRONG WITH THE BRAKES BUT MAZDA CLAIMS OTHER WISE. I'VE HAD A TWO NEW RADIATORS AND MY DRIVER WINDOW WENT OUT ALONG WITH EVERYTHING ELSE FROM THE VISOR FALLING OFF DURING THE HOT SUMMER BECAUSE IT JUST MELTED. HOW DOES A "SUN VISOR" MELT. I'VE HAD THE SHIFTING PADDLES REPLACED BECAUSE THEY JUST DIDN'T WORK AND I DON'T EVEN REALLY USE THEM, THE GAS CAP LOCK BROKE AND I HAD TO PRY IT OPEN SINCE THE EJECT NO LONGER WORKED... I THINK YOU GET THE POINT AND I DIDN'T EVEN MENTION SOME OF THE BI ITEMS. I'VE NEVER HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH A CAR IN MY LIFE. BEING IN ONE DEALER 4 TIMES AND ANOTHER ONE TIME. STILL NOT FIXED WHINING NOISE IN BACK, TICKING AND CLICKING NOISE IN ROTOR/ BRAKE, AIR CONDITIONER, HEAT, ROUGH DRIVE, AND SEAT SAGGING. NEW DEALER VERIFIED THE PROBLEMS, AND SAID ALL WAS THE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CAR, BUT WE FIXED THE ROTOR/BRAKE NOISE BY RESURFACING THE ROTOR. THE FIRST DEALER ALREADY DID THE RESURFACING. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA RX8. THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON 3 OCCASIONS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT 6 TIMES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6,000. *AK

I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT BRAKES (DUE TO TSB) REPAIRED THREE TIMES NOW. I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 4K MILES AND THE BRAKES SQUEAKED, THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THEM AND WITHIN 1 WEEK THEY BEGAN TO SQUEAK AGAIN SO I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY CLEANED & ADJUSTED THEM. THEY STARTED SQUEAKING AGAIN I TOOK TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE ROTORS AND PADS AGAIN DUE TO THE BACKPLATE AND PAD WAS SOAKED WITH OIL.

I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW SET OF POTENZA'S ON THE DEC 7. I HAD THEM MOUNTED ON IN THE AFTERNOON DEC 8. WENT STRAIGHT HOME 10 MILES AWAY. ON DEC 9, I NOTICED MY CAR WOULD SWERVE A BIT I WAS ENTERING THE FREEWAY, I SPUN OUT SIX OR SEVEN TIMES AT 45 MPH. WHEN I PULLED OVER I SAW THAT I WAS DRIVING ON MY RIM, MY TIRE ON THE RIGHT REAR SIDE WASN'T ON. I RETRIEVED THE TIRE. THE TREAD AND WALL TORE AWAY FROM EACH OTHER. EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT HIT ANYONE/ANYTHING FROM THE SPIN OUT, MY CAR, A 2005 MODEL, IS CONSIDERED A TOTAL WRECK FROM ALL THE DAMAGES THAT RESULTED FROM THE TIRE LOSS. *NM

DT: THE CONSUMER PURCHASED A NEW MAZDA RX8. THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED WHAT THE CONSUMER SUSPECTED WAS A PROBLEM THAT OCCURRED WHILE IN PARK AND THE RPMS INCREASED, CAUSING EXCESSIVE HEAT BUILDUP WHICH AFFECTED THE OXYGEN SENSORS AS WELL AS THE ABILITY TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THIS COULD ALSO LEAD TO A FUEL TANK LEAK AND ULTIMATELY A FIRE. VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE MAZDA DEALER. THE MAZDA DEALER NOTIFIED THE CONSUMER ABOUT A RECALL OF A SIMILAR NATURE CONCERNING THE FUEL TANK. THE MAZDA DEALER FROM WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED INFORMED THE CONSUMER AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE OR AFTERWARDS ABOUT THE RECALL. THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETING THE RECALL SERVICE AS INSTRUCTED, BUT THE CONSUMER WAS UPSET THAT SHE WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL WHILE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. RECALL REPAIRS BEGAN IN AUGUST 2005 THE SAME MONTH OF VEHICLE PURCHASE. NO OTHER PREVIOUS PROBLEMS OCCURRED. THIS WAS THE FIRST INCIDENT. THE CONSUMER OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 26 DAYS. THE DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE IF THE PROBLEM WAS THE SAME AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. *AK

MAZDA RX-8: CAR WAS PARKED AT THE TOP OF A GRADUAL SLOPE, WITH PARKING BRAKE FIRMLY PULLED UP. NO MORE THAN 5 MINUTES LATER, THE CAR HAD BACKED UP INTO BOTTOM OF A DITCH. THE CAR WAS GIVEN AN ESTIMATE OF OVER $15,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE DUE TO THE FAULTY BRAKE. WITNESSES AT THE SCENE CONFIRM THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WAS SET.
