VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ON A FOUR-LANE HIGHWAY WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE UNCONTROLLABLY; TRIED APPLYING THE BRAKE, TURNING OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL, PRESSING THE DECELERATE BUTTON, NOTHING WORKED. I HAD TO APPLY A GREAT DEAL OF FORCE TO THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO SLOW THE VEHICLE ENOUGH TO GET IT OFF THE ROAD. I SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV UNCONTROLLABLY. I TURNED THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF AND OPENED THE HOOD TO INVESTIGATE. THE THROTTLE CABLE ON THE CRUISE CONTROL SERVO HAD ROTATED UP TO ABOUT A 30-DEGREE ANGLE AND HAD THE THROTTLE HELD OPEN. I ROTATED THE CABLE BACK DOWN TO ITS NORMAL POSITION AND THE THROTTLE SNAPPED FREE. I WILL NOT USE THE CRUISE CONTROL AGAIN UNTIL THE ISSUE IS RESOLVED. I WAS TRAVELING AT 65 MPH WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO OVER 80 MPH WHILE I WAS TRYING TO GET IT UNDER CONTROL. *TR

WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND ABOUT 5 TIMES OVER THE HISTORY OF OWNING THIS VEHICLE, THE GAS PEDDLE STUCK AND ON THE LAST MOST RECENT EVENT THE CAR GOT STUCK AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED ON THE FREEWAY AND IT COULD NOT BE SLOWED BY PULLING THE PEDAL UP WITH FOOT. THANK GOD THERE WERE NO VEHICLES AROUND OR SLOWING TRAFFIC AHEAD. MAZDA ISSUED A RECALL #94751 - VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: CABLES BUT WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR INTO THE NEAREST MAZDA DEALERSHIP WE WERE TOLD THAT OUR VEHICLE'S VIN IS NOT COVERED BY THIS RECALL AS IT SUPPOSEDLY DOES NOT HAVE THE "DEFECTIVE PART(S) INSTALLED." YET THE SUMMARY OF THE RECALL DESCRIPTION NOTES THAT IT IS A DESIGN/INSTALLATION FLAW WITH THE VEHICLE I.E. "INADEQUATE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE ENGINE COVER AND SPEED CONTROL CABLE CONNECTOR" RESULTING IN A STUCK THROTTLE. MAZDA WON'T STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLE NOW AND WANT US TO PAY TO HAVE IT SERVICED/DIAGNOSED/FIXED?! ALSO I HAD PREVIOUSLY TAKEN THIS CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE IN THE PAST WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. MAZDA NEEDS TO DO A MORE IN-DEPTH INVESTIGATION OF THIS VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND DESIGN/PARTS FLAW AND ISSUE A MORE EXTENSIVE RECALL ON THEIR 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTES. The wheel well rusted out, completely leaving the shock tower and stability of the car at risk, rusted out completely, I'm a light backyard mechanic and I've seen the Ford do the same . The repair is almost the value of the car, and unless you trust them your basically buying a new vehicle, because while you're there may change the set of shock's and absorber that's about 700. To include. This car had a rumor of being as good as the Everlasting Santa Fe, and Toyota 4runner. Vehicle is in pristine shape aside from the fatal rust.. recall recall recall recall

HAVE HAD VEHICLE SINCE NEW IN 2005. PASSENGER SIDE REAR WELL SEVERELY RUSTED OUT, UPPER PORTION OF SHOCK HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE FRAME AND MOUNTING BRACKET DISINTEGRATED. SHOCK SWAYING FROM BEING DETACHED AND BODY SHOPS WILL NOT TOUCH DUE TO LIABILITY ISSUES. VEHICLE UNABLE TO BE SAFELY DRIVEN. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL.

TAKATA RECALL THE REAR PASSENGER SHOCK MOUNT HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT TO WHERE IT MAKES A HORRIBLE CLUNK SEVERE METAL TO METAL RATTLE WHILE DRIVING. I REFUSE TO ALLOW MY WIFE TO DRIVE IT DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS OF THE SHOCK COMING LOOSE AND CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THIS NOISE CAN BE HEARD DRIVING AS SLOWLY AS 5MPH WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AND TURNING ON A FLAT SMOOTH ROAD. PLEASE MAKE A RECALL FOR THIS YEAR OF MAZDA TRIBUTE AS THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE

REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL IS RUSTED OUT SO THE SHOCK THAT IS MOUNTED TO SAID WHEEL WELL IS FREELY SWINGING AROUND. MAZDA RECALLED TRIBUTES UP TO THE YEAR 2004 BUT THE 2005 WHICH HAS ESSENTIALLY THE EXACT SAME DESIGN WAS NOT RECALLED. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE WHEEL WELL IS DESIGNED WITH THIN SHEET METAL AND NEITHER THE GRADE NOR THICKNESS PREVENT RUSTING. WHILE THE WHEEL WELL IS DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND THE FORCES GENERATED BY THE SHOCK IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND THOSE FORCES UNDER CONDITIONS IN WHICH THE WHEEL WELL HAS RUSTED. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND VERY EASY TO OVER LOOK OR NOT NOTICE ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS WHICH COULD LEAD TO A FAILURE AT MEDIUM TO LOW SPEEDS.

The rear wheel well was completely rusted out while the other side is fine. The shock broke loose causing the vehicle to drop down. I have a 17 year old that is not an experienced driver and this could have resulted in her getting seriously hurt. From what I read they recalled the vehicle to to 2004 and I don’t understand why they did not recall this one. They should have and this is a serious safety issue. Does someone have to die before they see that this needs to be fixed?

owned since day one, bought brand new, religiously maintained, perfect shape other than completely rusted wheel house back left passenger side. Shock went through rusted area all the way to trunk. Mazda recalled models 2003 to 2004 for this problem yet so many 2005 Mazda Tribute owners are having exact problem especially when manufactured in 2004! This is serious and I had my granddaughter with me when this happened and yet Mazda wants to do nothing about it when it’s a serious hazard and ongoing problem with the 2005’s. It is always the back passenger side with this problem! I have no money to purchase a car and now my lifeline to support my family is broke!

RIGHT REAR SHOCK TOWER RUSTED OUT AND SHOCK BROKE THROUGH AND INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. SEVER RUST ON RIGHT SIDE OF FRONT SUB FRAME AS WELL. I CAME ACROSS THIS PERFORMING GENERAL MAINTENANCE.

BOUGHT CAR FOR MY SON. NOTICED A BAMGING NOISE IN REAR RIGHT BACK SOME OF CAR. LOOKED AT WHEEL WELL, COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH, A BIG HOLE. OTHER UNDER BODY RUST. THE 2000-2004 CARS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THEY CONTINUED TO APPLY DEFECT. AM AFRAID THE SHOCK ABSORBER WILL FALL OFF.MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE EXACT SAME THING. MAZDA SHOULD RECALL THIS VEHICLE, IT IS A DANGEROUS DEFECT THEY NEVER FIXED AFTER RECALL. THIS IS MY SON'S FIRST CAR, WORRIED ABOUT HIS SAFETY.

MY 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE HAS BEEN TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF SINCE IT WAS BOUGHT NEW. THE CAR HAS BEEN RUST PROOFED SEVERAL TIMES, SERVICED REGULARLY AND ALWAYS WASHED AND WAXED SEVERAL TIMES, AND BEYOND, SINCE OWNERSHIP. THAT BEING SAID, MY 2005 VEHICLE LOOKS QUITE IMMACULATE FOR ITS AGE, EXCEPT FOR THE EVER-INCREASING SEVERE RUST ISSUE ON THE RIGHT REAR RIGHT WHEEL WELL, WHICH I HAVW TRIED TO FIX, AND KEEP UP ON, BUT HAS NOW RUSTED RIGHT THROUGH, AND CAUSED THE SHOCK TO PROTRUDE INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. NOW MY MECHANIC CLAIMS HE CANNOT SERVICE MY VEHICLE FOR ANYTHING ELSE (EVEN THOUGH THE SERVICE ISSUES I NEED TO ADDRESS ARE IMPORTANT AND CRITICAL TO THE USE OF MY VEHICLE. I AM NOW IN A PREDICAMENT, SINCE THE COST TO REPAIR THIS DAMAGE IS VERY HIGH, SO HIGH, IT EXCEEDS THE CURRENT VALUE OF THE VEHICLE, AND I AM ENRAGED THAT MAZDA HAS NOT TAKEN ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THIS CLEAR FACTORY DEFECT. I SAY A CLEAR FACTORY DEFECT, SINCE THIS EXACT ISSUE WAS ADDRESSED, AND RECALLED, IN THE SAME VEHICLE FOR YEARS 2001-2004, BUT NOT FOR 2005. IN ADDITION, I HAVE MET SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE WHO HAVE/ARE EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, REGARDLESS OF HOW WELL THEY HAVE MAINTAINED THEIR VEHCILE. MOREOVER, I CAN FIND THE EXACT SAME ISSUE FOR THIS VEHICLE ON ENDLESS WEBSITES ONLINE, HUNDREDS, MORE ACCURATELY, THOUSANDS OF TIMES! FOR MAZDA TO STILL NOT HAVE RECALLED THIS ISSUE IS UNFAIR, RIDICULOUS AND VERY WRONG TO LOYAL MAZDA CUSTOMERS. I AM NOW STUCK WITH A VEHICLE I CANNOT DRIVE DUE TO A REPAIR I CANNOT AFFORD, BUT A REPAIR THAT I SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THE TIME, MONEY, MAINTENANCE AND CARE IVE PUT INTO THE OWNERSHIP OF MY CAR. IN ADDITION, THIS ISSUE IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AND COULD EASILY CAUSE HARM TO A PERSON DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, A PASSENGER, OR EVEN AN INNOCENT PEDESTRIAN WHEN POPPING THROUGH THE FLOOR, OR AT ANY OTHER STAGE OF WEARING.

THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL HAS RUSTED OUT SUCH THAT THE SUSPENSION IS NOW PROTRUDING INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS DISCOVERED WHEN REGULAR RATTLING FROM THE AREA PROGRESSED INTO LOUD BANGS WITH EACH BUMP. THE MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED STATED THAT THE RUST WAS ABNORMAL, EVEN FOR THE GEOGRAPHIC AREA, AND THAT NONE OF THE OTHER WHEEL WELLS EXHIBITED ANY SIGNS OF RUSTING. HE STATED IT WAS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND THAT THIS CONDITION WAS MOST LIKELY THE RESULT OF SOME SORT OF MANUFACTURING DEFECT (AS OPPOSED TO REGULAR AND EXPECTED OXIDATION).

WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE ON A PAVED CITY STREET, I NOTICED A SUDDEN LOUD CLANKING/POUNDING IN THE PASSENGER SIDE, REAR WHEEL WELL AREA. ASSUMED IT WAS A BAD SHOCK BUT SOON DISCOVERED THAT THE THE WHEEL WELL HAD RUSTED COMPLETELY OUT, THERE IS NOW A HOLE TO THE INSIDE OF MY CAR. SOME, BUT NOT MUCH RUST ELSEWHERE ON THE VEHICLE (THE OTHER THREE WHEEL WELLS LOOK GREAT), BUT THAT PART OF THE VEHICLE RUSTED THROUGH TO THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. NOT DRIVEABLE ANYMORE UNTIL THIS IS ADDRESSED. THE VEHICLE ITSELF IS VERY MECHANICALLY SOUND AND WILL CARED FOR. THERE ARE LOTS OF EXAMPLES ON ONLINE FORUMS OF THIS EXACT ISSUE, ON BOTH TRIBUTES AND FORD ESCAPES. APPARENTLY THERE IS A RECALL FOR THESE VEHICLES 01-04, BUT NO FURTHER. EXACT SAME ISSUE, EXACT SAME WHEEL WELL. PLEASE HELP!

HALBINSEL VOLKSWAGEN MAZDA (LOCATED AT 200 N 30TH ST, ESCANABA, MI 49829, (906) 789-9650) WAS NOTIFIED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000.

THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. WHEN COMPARED TO THE OTHER WHEEL WELLS YOU CAN SEE THE WHITE FOAM THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE ON THE INSIDE OF MY CAR. THERE IS ALSO A PLASTIC PIECE MISSING DUE TO THE SCREWS LOOSING THEIR HOLD. THE CAR MAKES A NOISE THAT SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS SOMETHING BOUNCING AROUND IN THE BACK WHEN IN REALITY IT IS THE SUSPENSION.

WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH ENGINE SPEED STARTED TO RISE. AS IF TRANSMISSION HAD SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. WHILE DRIVING AND COMING TO A STOP AT A LIGHT THE CAR STALLED WHILE USING THE AIR CONDITIONER. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES, SO I STOPPED USING THE AIR UNTIL I COULD BRING IT IN FOR SERVICE. THE NEXT DAY WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH I NOTICED THE RPM'S INCREASING WITH NO INCREASE IN SPEED. I ALSO NOTICED THE OVERDRIVE LIGHT BLINKING. I PULLED OVER AND THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL NO MATTER WHERE THE SHIFT SELECTOR WAS. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND AFTER 5 MIN. RESTARTED THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE. AFTER ABOUT 100 YDS , AGAIN THE TRANS SHIFTED BACK TO NEUTRAL. AGAIN I PULLED OVER SHUT OFF THE CAR AND WAITED 5 MIN. I CONTINUED THIS PROCEDURE UNTIL I GOT HOME ABOUT 5 MILES. *TR

THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AT 21,000 MILES IN MARCH 2007 HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEED OF A SECOND TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000. WE PURCHASED A NEW 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. AT 90K MILES, THE BRAKE BOOSTER STARTED LEAKING AIR CAUSING EXTENDED BRAKING DISTANCE REQUIRING MORE DRIVER FORCE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP. THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS REPLACED AT DEALER WITH OEM PART, AND NOW AT 150K MILES, IT HAS BEGUN LEAKING AIR AGAIN. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, HE NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD VIBRATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. AS A PROBLEM WITH MANY OTHER MAZDA TRUBUTES, THE WHEEL WELL IS RUSTED THROUGH AND THE STRUT IS NO LONGER HELD IN PLACE, YET PROTRUDING INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE THAT REQUIRED A RECALL FOR OTHER MAZDA TRIBUTES, BUT NOT THE 2005 VERSION. ACCORDING TO MANY FORUMS, THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MANY OTHER 05 TRIBUTES.

THE REAR WHEEL WELL RUSTED OUT CAUSING THE SHOCK TO POKE A HOLE THRU THE BACK OF MY CARGO AREA. THIS CREATED A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR DRIVING. OUR 2005 TRIBUTE MODEL HAS THE SAME RUSTING OUT OF THE RIGHT AND LEFT REAR WHEEL WELLS THAT THE 2001-2004 MODELS OF THE TRIBUTE HAVE EXPERIENCED. THOSE MODELS WERE REPAIRED UNDER A RECALL, BUT THIS YEAR'S MODEL AND FORWARD STILL HAVE THE SAME RUSTING OUT PROBLEM. DEALERS FOR MAZDA AND FORD WON'T EVEN LOOK AT THIS TO REPAIR IT. CAR IS NOW BASICALLY UNDRIVABLE. AND FROM WHAT I'VE FOUND, MAZDAWORLD.COM SAYS THAT MOST OF THESE VEHICLE WERE ACTUALLY MANUFACTURED IN 2004 BUT DATED TO 2005 MODEL YEAR. BUT AVOIDED THE 2004 RECALL BECAUSE OF THIS I CAN FIND A KIT ON EBAY TO FIX, BUT NO DEALERS WILL DO THE WORK. THERE HAVE BEEN PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS, BUT NO ACTION ON THIS KNOWN PROBLEM THAT HAS EXISTED IN PRIOR MODEL DESIGNS.

A NOISE IN THE LEFT REAR DEVELOPED AND THE REAR SHOCK BROKE OFF. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT EXCESSIVE CORROSION ON THE ENTIRE FRAME FROM BEHIND THE FRONT SEAT AREA BACK RENDERED THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I CONTACTED MAZDA CORP AND WAS TLD THAT YES THERE WERE KNOWN CASES OF EXCESSIVE CORROSION ON THAT ER AS WELL AS FORD ESCAPES DUE TO DEFECTIVE METAL USED IN MANUFACTURING. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT MY FAULT AS I COULD NOT HAVE PREVENTED IT. THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AS THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTEE. THE MAZDA DEALER WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE STATED IT WAS NE OF THE WORST CASES THEY HAD SEEN AND NOT TO DRIVE IT. I WAS FORCED TO TRADE IT IN AT A GREAT LOSS BECAUSE I NEED A VEHICLE.

THERE IS EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF THE REAR STRUCTURE OF MY MAZDA. THE NOISE FROM THE PASSENGER REAR BECAME A THUNKING AND TODAY I FOUND THE TOP PORTION OF THE STRUT HAD RUSTED AND BROKE OFF. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THAT THE ENTIRE REAR HAS EXCESSIVE RUSTING TO THE STRUCTURE. I FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM RESULTED IN A RECALL OF THE SAME VEHICLE 2001-2004. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE MECHANIC STATED HE COULD NOT PUT THE VEHICLE ON A LIFT DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE CORROSION OF THE FRAME. I CONTACTED MAZDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY STATED THAT ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL FOR CORROSION IT DID NOT INCLUDE MY VIN. THE REAR STRUT BEING BROKEN AND THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS IT IN PLACE ARE NO LONGER ATTACHED.

THEN WHILE DRIVING THE DOOR AJAR ALARM WENT OFF CONSTANTLY. WENT TO KARR AND HAD A NEW ALARM SYSTEM PUT IN. STILL HAPPENS. WENT TO MAZDA AND THEY FOUND THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE. HAD EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THEY FIXED IT. 11 DAYS LATER THE ALARM WENT OFF AGAIN IN THE DRIVE WAY WHILE SITTING THERE LOCKED. CALLED MAZDA AGAIN AND AM SCHEDULED TO BRING THE CAR IN TO CHECK IT OUT AGAIN. FILLING THE GAS TANK BECAME A PROBLEM AS WEATHER BECAME COLDER. IT FILLS SLOWLY AND BACKS UP. I SAW TSB ON THE ISSUE AND CONTACTED DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED ,A FORD DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO GET INFORMATION ON THE PROBLEM AND SAID THAT I WOULD PROBABLY HAVE TO PAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM ANYWAY AND WOULD HAVE TO GO TO A MAZDA DEALERSHIP TO GET IT DONE. I CONTACTED MAZDA USA BY PHONE AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY OR RECALL. THEY REFUSED TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIR. WITH PERSISTENCE THEY SAID IF I TOOK IT TO THE NEAREST MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND PAID FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND RESULTS WERE CONSISTENT WITH THE TSB THAT THEY MIGHT HELP WITH THE REPAIR UNDER A "GOODWILL" PROGRAM. I REQUESTED TSB FIX INFORMATION SO I COULD CONSIDER WHAT WAS NEEDED TO FIX SO I COULD DECIDE MY MOST ECONOMICAL ROUTE TO GET IT FIXED BUT THEY REFUSED. THEY SAID THAT INFORMATION WOULD ONLY BE GIVEN TO MAZDA MECHANICS DUE TO "LIABILITY" CONCERNS. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES AND IT NOW OCCURS AT EVERY FUEL FILL, THE COLDER IT IS THE WORSE IT IS BUT IT OCCURS EVEN WHEN IT IS ABOVE FREEZING. I HAVE A COWORKER WITH A 2006 TRIBUTE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. NO SERIOUS EVENT TO US YET BUT MY SON BORROWED THE CAR ONCE AND I WAS UNABLE TO WARN HIM AHEAD AND HE WAS DOUSED IN GAS. WITH JUST OVER 12000 MILES, THE THROTTLE BECAME VERY STICKY IN COLD WEATHER. THE BUTTERFLIES IN THE THROTTLE BODY HOLD THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CLOSED, REQUIRING EXCESSIVE FORCE TO PUSH (AND EXCESSIVE ACCELERATION). IN COLD WEATHER, THROTTLE WOULD STICK CLOSED WHENEVER THE PEDAL WAS RELEASED, NO MATTER HOW LONG THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN. THE DEALERSHIP (HALL MAZDA IN VIRGINIA BEACH) REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY, AND COMMENTED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY SHOULD BE CLEANED EVERY 12000 MILES FOR VARNISH BUILDUP. THIS VEHICLE IS OWNED BY ME BUT USED BY MY SON IN COLORADO. ON A RECENT TRIP NEAR MOAB, UT ON THE WAY TO A CAMP SITE, MY SON HEARD A STRANGE NOISE. UPON INVESTIGATION HE NOTED THE FRAME IN THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL HOLDING THE UPPER END OF THE SHOCK ABSORBER HAD BROKEN IN TWO PLACES FROM RUST INTRUSION. AN INSPECTION OF THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WELL INDICATED MINIMAL RUSTING. SINCE THE TIRES WERE RECENTLY REPLACED THIS FAILURE WAS A SURPRISE AS THE MECHANIC DIDN'T NOTE EXCESSIVE RUST, CRACKING OR SIGNS OF METAL FATIGUE. WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURED MY SON WAS DRIVING ON A GRAVEL ROAD TOWARD A DESIGNATED CAMPGROUND JUST A SHORT DISTANCE FROM A PAVED HIGHWAY. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE HAS 4 WHEEL DRIVE, IT WAS NEVER USED IN A ROUGH MANNER SUCH AS FOR 4 WHEELING OR ON ROUGH UNEVEN SURFACES. THIS WAS MY PERSONAL VEHICLE UNTIL A YEAR AGO. WE HAD JUST SPENT $1,500 FOR NEW TIRES, A CARBURATOR REPAIR AND A NEW WINDSHIELD THAT A ROCK HAD CRACKED. IT WAS OUR INTENT TO OWN THE VEHICLE A FEW YEARS LONGER SINCE IT HAS ONLY 135,000 AND IS IN GOOD CONDITION. MY SON WAS ABLE TO SAFELY RETURN TO STEAMBOAT, A 5 HOUR DRIVE FROM MOAB, BUT WAS VERY CONCERNED THE ENTIRE SHOCK WOULD PUSH THROUGH THE WHEEL WELL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LIST OR DRIFT RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL OR A ROLLOVER, I.E. SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. A LOCAL BODY SHOP REFUSED TO MAKE REPAIRS DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. TO MAKE THE VEHICLE SALVAGE BASED ON ITS CURRENT VALUE AND CONDITION IS UNTHINKABLE, YET IF REPAID CANNOT BE MADE AT A REASONABLE COST, THIS MAY BE OUR ONLY CHOICE. MY RESEARCH SUGGEST THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL RUST IS FAIRLY COMMON IN TRIBUTES AND ESCAPES, YET NO RECALL.

I OWN A 2005 TRIBUTE THAT HAS BEEN KEPT IN METICULOUS CONDITION. ALWAYS GARAGED AND TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR MAINTENANCE. THE VEHICLE RUNS LIKE NEW WITH NO SIGNS OF WEAR AND TEAR, AND HAS BEEN A GREAT CAR. THAT ALL CHANGED WHEN A FEW WEEKS AGO I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET, AND HIT A SMALL PATCH OF BUMPS IN THE ROAD (NOT POTHOLES, JUST NORMAL UNEVEN PAVEMENT SPOTS) AND ALL OF A SUDDEN HEARD A JACKHAMMER NOISE FROM THE BACK OF THE CAR. THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL HAD COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATED, LEAVING THE WHEEL/SUSPENSION DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE BODY/FRAME. NOTHING WAS HOLDING THE SUSPENSION TOWER TO THE CAR. HAD I BEEN GOING FASTER OR DIDN'T STOP RIGHT AWAY THIS COULD HAVE KILLED ME. I HAVE THREE SMALL KIDS AND I AM SO UPSET THAT SUCH A DANGEROUS CONDITION IS WELL-KNOWN. THE WAY I FOUND OUT WAS THAT I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE FORD/MAZDA DEALERSHIP WHEN THE NOISE HAPPENED. THEY TOOK IN THE CAR AND CALLED ME THE NEXT MORNING TO SAY THEY WANTED NOTHING TO DO WITH IT BECAUSE THEIR CORPORATE FORD/MAZDA POLICY INSTRUCTED THEM NOT TO ACCEPT OR WORK ON VEHICLES WITH THIS DEFECT. I'M SHOCKED THAT FORD/MAZDA WOULD CONCEAL SUCH A DANGEROUS KNOWN CONDITION IN THEIR VEHICLES, PUTTING THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE AT RISK WITHOUT ANY WARNING. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 35 MPH I FELT WHAT APPEARED TO BE A FLAT TIRE. AFTER CHECKING THE TIRE, THERE WAS NOTHING OBVIOUS SHOWING. AT SPEEDS ABOUT 55 MPH THE SENSATION OF A FLAT TIRE CEASED, HOWEVER, AS SOON AS I WOULD SLOW DOWN, IT WOULD RETURN, ALONG WITH A LOUD NOISE. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO FIRESTONE TIRE. THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. THE STRUT HOUSING IS EXPOSED AND THE WHEEL IS AT RISK FOR LITERALLY SEPARATING FROM THE VEHICLE. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE CHECKED BY SEVERAL DIFFERENT MECHANICS AND BODY SHOPS WE WERE TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND REQUIRES OVER $5800 IN REPAIRS. AFTER CONTACTING MAZDA, THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS A RECALL AND THE ONLY OFF THEY MADE WAS FOR $1,500-$3,000 OFF THE PURCHASE OF A BRAND NEW MAZDA. WE HAVE CARED FOR OUR VEHICLE IMPECCABLY. IT ONLY HAS 135,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS ALWAYS HAD ALL MAINTENANCE PERFORMED. ALL OTHER AREAS OF THE VEHICLE ARE IN GOOD CONDITION. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE WITH THE PARTS THAT WERE USED ON THE ASSEMBLY LINE DURING PRODUCTION. I FIND IT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT ONLY ONE SIDE IN ONE AREA OF THE VEHICLE WOULD RUST OUT LIKE THIS. MAZDA SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED.

THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL HAS RUSTED OUT SUCH THAT THE SUSPENSION IS NOW PROTRUDING INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS DISCOVERED WHEN REGULAR RATTLING FROM THE AREA PROGRESSED INTO LOUD BANGS WITH EACH BUMP. THE MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED STATED THAT THE RUST WAS ABNORMAL, EVEN FOR THE GEOGRAPHIC AREA, AND THAT NONE OF THE OTHER WHEEL WELLS EXHIBITED ANY SIGNS OF RUSTING. THE RIGHT REAR STRUT TOWER HAS RUSTED CAUSING THE BRACKET TO COME LOOSE FROM THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE. I CALLED A BODY SHOP TO SEE IF THEY COULD FIX THIS AND THEY KNEW THE TYPE OF VEHICLE I HAVE JUST BASED ON THE PROBLEM AS IT IS SO PERVASIVE. The passenger side rear wheel well has rusted out and the brake mount is deteriorating as well affecting the safety of the vehicle. I have been told that this is a common issue on Mazda Tribute and Ford Escape models for the years 2001-2005 by my mechanic as well as Mazda dealer reps. They stated the 2001-2004 models were recalled but not the 2005. However, t hey mentioned that these should likely have been recalled as well. One would think that if you take care of your car that the components of the frame should not rust out.

I have found several complaints on the 2005 Mazda Tribute with the rear wheel well rusting out. Mazda did a recall on the 2004 but not the 2005. I previously had to replace the rear wheel in 2018 and it now needs replaced again due to rusting. With the number of complaints I have read, along with the outrageous cost to repair, I do not understand why Mazda, nor the NHTSA have done anything about this. A recall NEEDS to be issued ASAP.

PROBLEM: TWO OF THE FOUR WHEEL RIMS ARE CRACKING AT THE LUG NUT HOLES (RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE), THE LEFT SIDE WHEELS HAVE YET TO BE INSPECTED. WHEN A ROUTINE TIRE ROTATION WAS PERFORMED, THE WHEELS WERE REINSTALLED AND TORQUED (USING A CLICK TYPE TORQUE WRENCH) TO THE MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATION OF 100 FT/LBS. AS TORQUE WAS APPLIED, THE LUG NUTS FELT AS THOUGH THEY WERE STRIPPED, AND SOME LUG NUTS ACTUALLY PULLED THEMSELVES FURTHER INTO THE RIM THAN THE OTHERS AS TIGHTENING OCCURRED. SUBSEQUENT REMOVAL OF THE RIGHT SIDE WHEELS REVEALED DEFORMED LUG NUTS, AND CRACKS ON BOTH RIMS AT THE LUG NUT HOLES, FROM 1/4 LONG, DESCRIBED BY THE EXAMINING TECHNICIAN AS MAKING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I BEGAN TO NOTICE A LOUD BANGING COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE CAR. PASSENGER SIDE INNER REAR WHEEL WELL RUSTED OUT AND COMPLETELY SEPERATED SHOCK FROM FRAME. I WAS DRIVING ALONG LAST WEEK AND SUDDENLY STARTED HEARING A RATTLING SOUND. I PULLED OVER TO INSPECT ONLY TO FIND NOTHING IN TRUNK. TOOK TRUCK TO MECHANIC ONLY TO BE TOLD THE ENTIRE SHOCK HAD SEPERATED FROM FRAME. THE OTHER WHEEL WELL IS RUST FREE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM IN MAZDA TRIBUTES ONLY RECALLED FROM 2001-2004, WHEN TRIBUTES FROM 2001-2006 HAVE INTERCHANGEABLE PARTS AND TONS OF PEOPLE ONLINE IN ALL FORUMS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME RUST PROBLEM IN THE SAME LOCATIONS ALL OVER THE US.

PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT, EXPOSING AND CAUSING FAILURE IN THE ASSOCIATED SHOCK. THE REAR BUMPER NOW RATTLES OVER EVEN THE TINIEST BIT OF UNEVEN PAVEMENT AND THE CAR WILL SWAY IN THE BACK REAR OVER LARGER BUMPS HIT WITH THAT BACK WHEEL. FIRST NOTICED GOING OVER UNEVEN PAVEMENT AFTER BEING PARKED FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS. NOTHING PROMPTED IT OTHER THAN A PIECE OF UNEVEN ROAD MAY HAVE BEEN THE FINAL STRAW. THIS IS APPARENTLY BECOMING A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTES AND WAS ADDRESSED IN A RECALL FOR 2001-2004 TRIBUTES. THE CONTACT HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND ADJUST THE SPEED CABLE IN ORDER TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V357000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT DUE TO THE ENGINE SIZE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,621.

WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 1500 AND 2500 RPMS, THE CAR SUDDENLY DROPS IN RPMS AND EITHER STALLS ALTOGETHER OR STARTS MAKING A JERKING MOTION AND THUDDING NOISE. CANNOT GET OUT OF THE GEAR UNLESS YOU JAM ON THE ACCELERATOR. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND NEAR UNDRIVABLE ON THE HIGHWAY. MY TRIBUTE IS A V-6 3.0L AND THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED 11-04 PER DRIVER'S DOOR STICKER. THE FIRST TIME I HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE GAS PEDAL, I WAS BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY AND THE PEDAL GOT STUCK ALL THE WAY DOWN. MY CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. SINCE THEN, I'VE HAD 5 INSTANCES WHERE I'M DRIVING MY CAR AND LET UP ON THE GAS PEDAL AND IT GETS STUCK. I HAVE TO STOMP ON THE PEDAL MULTIPLE TIMES FOR IT TO START WORKING AGAIN. I'M ALWAYS IN TRAFFIC AND HAVE TO TURN ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND PULL OFF TO THE SIDE IF THERE IS A SHOULDER AVAILABLE. I HAVE FOUND THAT MY GAS PEDAL WON'T DEPRESS IN COLD WEATHER. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS A FEW WEEKS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2009. THE SAID IT'S COLD AND THE CAR JUST NEEDS TO WARM UP. THIS PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN YEAR AFTER YEAR, BUT NEVER FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME. HOWEVER THIS MORNING, AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK THE PEDAL WOULD NO LONGER DEPRESS AS I WAS GOING DOWN THE ROAD. EVENTUALLY I COASTED TO A RED LIGHT AND I FRANTICALLY STEPPED ON THE PEDAL TO NO AVAIL. I WAS ABLE TO TURN ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND SOMEHOW COAST INTO A PARKING LOT. I CONTINUED TO LET THE CAR SIT AND WARM UP FOR ANOTHER 10-12 MINUTES, WHEN I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO REV THE ENGINE. BELIEVING THAT THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED I BACKED OUT OF MY PARKING SORT AND AGAIN TRIED TO DRIVE FORWARD, HOWEVER THE PEDAL STILL WOULD NOT DEPRESS. AFTER SITTING ANOTHER 10 MINUTES, I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO PRESS THE PEDAL HARD ENOUGH FOR IT TO DEPRESS. I HAVE A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE WITH 145000 MILES. DURING THE SUMMER, I FOLDED THE REAR SEATS DOWN IN THE STOWED POSITION TO UTILIZE THE CARGO SPACE TO GO ON VACATION. WHEN I UNSTOWED THE SEATS TO UTILIZE THEM FOR PASSENGER USE, I DISCOVERED THE RIGHT REAR SEAT CUSHION HAD THE FABRIC BURNED OFF THE FACE OF THE SEAT. ALSO, THE FLOOR MAT WAS SEVERELY BURNED AND MELTED INTO THE CARPET. THIS AREA IS JUST ABOVE THE EXHAUST SYSTEM OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE AND THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR ALMOST CAUGHT ON FIRE. I CONTACTED MZDA AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THEY PUT MY VEHICLE AND AN ANALYZER AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. I NEVER HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE, BUT A SAFETY ISSUE! THEY JUST BLEW ME OFF AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. I HAVE PHOTO'S OF THE DAMAGE. I CANNOT EVEN PULL THE BACK FLOOR MAT UP DUE TO IT BEING MELTED INTO THE CARPET. SHE MOVED THE VEHICLE SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT, BUT IT WAS STILL STRUCK. BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS FAILED. THE SEAT BELT ON THE DRIVER SIDE DID NOT FAIL, BUT IT DID NOT HOLD THE CONTACT DOWN. THE SUNROOF BUCKLED AND THE VEHICLE WAS SPLIT IN HALF. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE THEN SPUN IN A CIRCLE. THE POLICE AND PARAMEDICS ARRIVED AND TRANSPORTED THE CONTACT TO THE HOSPITAL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT AND THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE WERE INJURED. HE HAS NOT NOTIFIED MAZDA. THE VIN, ENGINE SIZE, NUMBER OF CYLINDERS, SPEED, AND MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.

FIRST LET ME PLEASE ADVISE THAT THERE WAS NO INCIDENT REGARDING MY VEHICLE. I AM WRITING TO TRY TO GET INFORMATION ABOUT A POTENTIAL RECURRING PROBLEM THAT WAS FIRST REPORTED AND RECALLED WITH THE 2002 AND THE 2003 / RECALL 63202. I HAVE A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE AND WAS JUST ADVISED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF IRWIN MAZDA IN FREEHOLD NEW JERSEY THAT MY CAR WILL NEED TO HAVE THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND THE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED. I KNOW MY CAR IS A 2005 AND THE RECALL PERTAINED TO THE 2002 AND 2003 MODELS, BUT I FEEL THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT IS RECURRING AND IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED. I CONTACTED MAZDA CORPORATE AND SPOKE TO THE SUPERVISOR MR. JOHHNY GARCIA AND I VOICED MY CONCERNS, AND I WAS DISMISSED BY HIM STATING THAT THERE WAS NOTHING HE CAN OR WILL DO TO ESCALATE MY CONCERNS TO A HIGHER LEVEL OF MANAGEMENT AT MAZDA CORPORATE. WE TOOK TO THE MAZDA DEALER (5900 NORTH OAK TRAFFICWAY, KANSAS CITY, MO 64118) IN 2009 BECAUSE THE CAR DID NOT START. THEY CHANGED THE STARTER MOTOR AND STILL IT DID NOT WORK THEN THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY AND IT DID NOT WORK AGAIN THEM THEY SAID IT IS THE ALTERNATOR THIS ALL HAPPENED JUST WITHIN A WEEK OR TWO AND HAD TO SPEND LOT OF MONEY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATE SPEEDS OF 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN ABNORMAL JERKING AND THE ENGINE WOULD IDLE VERY LOW, ALMOST TO A STOP. DURING THE LAST STATE INSPECTION, IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT ALL 4 TIRES ON MY 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE WERE WORN ON THE INSIDE EDGE ONLY. THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THAT HE HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND THAT THE SOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE WAS TO JUST REPLACE THE TIRES. THE CAR HAS 26,843 MILES ON IT, HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN OFF-ROAD OR USED TO TOW ANYTHING. I COULD UNDERSTAND WEAR ACROSS THE TREAD, BUT THIS IS LIMITED TO JUST THE INSIDE EDGE. I CALLED THE MAZDA CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER IN CALIFORNIA AND AFTER SPEAKING TO A MANAGER A REPRESENTATIVE DID STATE TO ME THAT HE HAD HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AS WELL. I DID TALK TO CONTINENTAL, THE TIRE MANUFACTURE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT FIRST OF ALL THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON OEM TIRES, AND THIS KIND OF WEAR CAN ONLY MEAN THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I HAVE DOCUMENTED SERVICE RECORDS AND THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE HAS BEEN FOLLOWED TO THE LETTER INCLUDING TIRE ROTATION. THE FINAL DECISION TO HELP ME WAS THE DISTRICT MANAGER FROM MAZDA AND HE TOLD ME QUOTE ?THE CAR HAS 30,000 MILES ON IT, YOUR LUCKY TO GET THAT KIND OF MILEAGE FROM THOSE TIRES, YOU SHOULD JUST GET NEW ONES? BEGAN HEARING LOUD BANGING NOISE IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS. UPON INSPECTION, THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR SHOCK MOUNT IN THE WHEEL WELL WAS COMPLETELY BROKEN FREE AND THE SHOCK BANGING AROUND. IT HAD PINCHED THE BRAKE LIGHTS AND THEY STOPPED WORKING AS WELL. UPON RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON ISSUE WITH FORD ESCAPES AND MAZDA TRIBUTES OF THIS VINTAGE BUT ONLY ON THE RIGHT REAR. SO MUCH SO COMPANIES LIKE DORMAN MAKE A REPLACEMENT PART FOR IT TO REPLACE THE WHEEL WELL WHICH REQUIRES WELDING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ADDRESS. NEVER HAD THIS HAPPENED TO ANY OTHER VEHICLE.

I WOULD LIKE A COMPLETE REFUND OF ALL DOLLARS SPENT IN ACQUIRING A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE VIN [XXX] ON MARCH 06, 2017 FROM CERTIFIED AUTO BROKERS LLC IN HENDERSONVILLE, TN 37075, LICENSE #[XXX]. (ATTACHED BILL OF SALE) DUE TO SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE. DUE TO EXTENSIVE RUST AND CORROSION DAMAGE, THE FRAME IS LIKELY TO COLLAPSE IN THE EVENT OF A REAR END COLLISION ENDANGERING THE SAFETY OF ITS PASSENGERS, RATHER THAN CRUSH AND ABSORB THE IMPACT AS IT WAS ORIGINALLY DESIGNED TO DO. IN ADDITION, IT IS PRONE TO SWERVE AND POSSIBLY TIP OVER OUT OF CONTROL ON UNEVEN PAVEMENT DUE TO A MISSING PASSENGER SIDE REAR SHOCK THAT WAS NOT DISCLOSED PRIOR TO PURCHASE (PHOTOS ATTACHED). THE LEFT SIDE SHOCK IS WORN OUT AND ALSO READY TO FALL OFF AT ANY MOMENT AS WELL. BECAUSE THE FENDER WELLS ARE RUSTED THROUGH EXHAUST FUMES CAN ENTER THE PASSENGER CABIN WHICH COULD HAVE SERIOUS HEALTH CONSEQUENCES TO ITS INHABITANTS. EVIDENCE SUGGESTS AT SOME POINT THE DAMAGED AREAS WERE COVERED WITH PAINT OR UNDERCOAT IN AN ATTEMPT TO HIDE THESE DEFECTS. THE DRIVE SHAFT, THE FRAME AND THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE ARE SEVERELY CORROSION DAMAGED. THE PARKING BRAKE IS INOPERATIVE DUE TO RUST AND COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ROLL DOWN HILL WHILE PARKED. THERE IS SIGNIFICANT RUST HIDDEN UNDERNEATH THE FENDER FLARES. HAD I KEPT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE I COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED AND ENDANGERED THE LIVES OF OTHERS ON THE ROAD. CERTIFIED AUTO BROKERS WAS NEGLIGENT IN REPRESENTING THIS VEHICLE AS BEING IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND SELLING IT WITH KNOWN SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES (REFER TO ATTACHED ADVERTISEMENT). THE 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE S (3.0L V6), ALSO KNOWN AS THE 2005 FORD ESCAPE (SAME PARTS, ASSEMBLY LINE, PCM, ETC) HAS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT CAN BE TRACKED THROUGH MANY, MANY TSBS. MAZDA/FORD USED THE INCORRECT AND FAULTY SPARK PLUGS IN THEIR 2005 TRIBUTES AND ESCAPES. THESE PLUGS GENERATE TOO MUCH RF NOISE AND THEIR FAULTY COIL-ON-PLUG DESIGNED IGNITION SYSTEM DOES NOT PROVIDE ANYWHERE NEAR ENOUGH SUPPRESSION FOR THE EXCESSIVE RF NOISE. THESE ISSUES COMBINES CAUSE THE PCM TO LITERALLY FRY OUT AND BURN AND CRACK THE IGNITION COILS AT THE SAME TIME. DUE TO MAZDA AND FORD'S TOTAL LACK OF SAFETY CONCERN OR ATTENTION TO THIS ISSUE, THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF TRIBUTES AND ESCAPES HAVE ENGINE MISFIRING ISSUES (ROUGH IDLES, ENGINE KNOCKS, EVENTUAL COIL FAILURE) THAT GO UNDIAGNOSED AND CAUSES UNBURNED FUEL TO PUSH THROUGH THE TOP CATALYTIC CONVERTERS WHICH IN TURN DAMAGES THEM AS WELL. AGAIN, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, SEEN IN MANY TSBS THAT MAZDA AND FORD WILL NOT ADDRESS. RESULTS ASIDE FROM EXTREME DAMAGE TO THE MOST CORE COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE INCLUDE ENGINE MISFIRING AND CAR SHUTTING DOWN COMPLETELY MID-DRIVE (WE'RE TALKING 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY). THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT THEY WILL NOT ADDRESS AND IS SEEN IN MOST IF NOT ALL 2005 TRIBUTES AND ESCAPES, TYPICALLY AROUND THE 90K MILE MARK. NHTSA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS AS THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY MATTER. MY 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE HAS BURNED THROUGH 6 IGNITION COILS AND SPARK PLUGS, DIED WHILE I WAS DRIVING SEVERAL TIMES, MISFIRES FREQUENTLY AND AT RANDOM AND FINALLY THE ISSUE HAS FRIED MY PCM, WHICH IN TURN TOOK OUT ALL 6 IGNITION COILS AT THE SAME TIME. THE 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE INITIALLY STARTED TO BE SPORADICALLY SLUGGISH/HESITATION WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS. IT SEEMED LIKE THERE WAS A DELAY FROM WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL TO WHEN THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY ACCELERATED. ON 6/4/15, A COUPLE DAYS AFTER FIRST EXPERIENCING THE SLUGGISHNESS/HESITANT ACCELERATION, THE VEHICLE STALLED/LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING 55 MILES PER HOUR ON A BUSY ROAD. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUE ON MY WAY. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO BE SLUGGISH AT ACCELERATION AND WOULD RANDOMLY STALL WHILE DRIVING AND/OR IDLING. AT THIS POINT WITH THE VEHICLE'S MECHANICAL ISSUES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT ON- EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS SOMETHING MAJOR WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. OVER THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS I HAD THE VEHICLE IN THE SHOP THREE TIMES. THE FIRST TIME IN THE SHOP (6/6/15) THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL NOT ON- -SO THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THEY SHOP SUGGESTED REPLACING THE FUEL FILTER AND DO A FUEL SYSTEM CLEAN-- WHICH I DID. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO BE SLUGGISH/HESITANT WHEN ACCELERATING & RANDOMLY STALLED WHILE DRIVING AND/OR IDLING. ABOUT A WEEK LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FINALLY CAME ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOP & THEY INDICATED THE CODE WAS TELLING THEM THAT CYLINDER 2 WAS MISFIRING. NO OTHER CODES WERE READ. ALL THE SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED, COILS WERE CHECKED (IN GOOD CONDITION). THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME BACK ON; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO RUN SLUGGISH AND STALL WHILE DRIVING (MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN I WAS GOING 55-65 MPH). ON 6/24/15 THE CAR STALLED AGAIN BUT THIS TIME IT WOULD NOT RESTART. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE SHOP & THEY INDICATED THE COMPUTER WAS DEAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I CONTACTED MAZDA AND THEY DENIED THERE WERE ISSUES WITH THE MAZDA TRIBUTE COMPUTERS AND SAID IT WAS JUST MY VEHICLE.

THE REPAIRS ARE GOING TO BE VERY COSTLY AND I FOUND OUT THAT THE 01-04 MODELS HAVE DONE THE SAME AND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. I PURCHASED MY 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE BRAND NEW FROM MARTIN MAZDA, LOCATED IN NEWARK, DE. MY VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND I JUST DRIVE IT BACK AND FORTH TO WORK. IN JANUARY I STARTED HEARING A LOUD NOISE IN THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE WHICH STARTED TO GET LOUDER AND LOUDER. IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WAS BOUNCING/RATTLING AROUND. ON FEBRUARY 10, 2015 I TOOK MY CAR TO NUCAR MAZDA IN NEW CASTLE WHO HAS SERVICED MY VEHICLE SINCE 2005. [XXX] , MAZDA SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMED ME THAT THE RIGHT REAR SUBFRAME AND WHEELWELL HAD RUSTED AWAY AND THAT IT WAS UNSAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE. THE BRAKE LINE HAD STARTED TO RUST, AS WELL. THE SHOCK ATTACHED T THE VEHICLE HAD RUSTED AWAY, AS WELL. HE EXPLAINED THAT THE REAR COULD COLLAPSE. I CONTACTED MAZDA HEADQUARTERS AND THEY SAID THAT DUE TO THE WAY THAT DELAWARE SALTS THEIR ROADS IS WHY THIS RUST OCCURRED ONLY ON THE RIGHT SIDE. A FAMILY MEMBER SUGGESTED THAT I GET AN ESTIMATE FROM A BODY SHOP. NORTHEAST BODY SHOP WAS ABLE TO REPAIR ALL OF THE PARTS THAT HAD RUSTED OUT AT A COST OF $2,710.00. THE SUB FRAME AND AXLES COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND EVERYTHING SUPPORTED CAME LOOSE. IT ALL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE I HAVE BEEN READING ABOUT ON THE SAME VEHICLE YEARS 2001 - 2004 AS WELL AS MANY FORD ESCAPES. THEY HAVE BEEN RECALLED SO WHY WOULD NEWER UNITS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM NOT HAVE BEEN RECALLED. WHEN APPROACHING A 4-WAY INTERSECTION DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS, THE LIGHT TURNED YELLOW THEN RED. I TRIED TO STOP BY PRESSING MY BRAKE PEDAL. I HAD A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE I, BOUGHT IN MARCH 2005. IN DECEMBER 2005 I RAN OFF THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED TWICE. I WAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED, BUT THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY IN THE ACCIDENT. FURTHER, THE CAR RADIO CAME LOOSE FROM ITS MOUNTINGS, AND WHIPPED AROUND ON ITS ANTENNA CABLE. I'M NOT CERTAIN, BUT I THINK THE LOOSE RADIO HIT ME IN THE SIDE OF THE HEAD CAUSING BRUISES AND CONTUSIONS. *JB

WHEN THE BRAKES OF THE CONSUMER'S 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE WERE APPLIED THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. *NM THERE WAS A RATTLE ON THE RIGHT SIDE, THE DRIVERS MIRROR VIBRATED, THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR IN THE AUTO DIMMING MIRROR REGISTERED INCORRECTLY, THE WIPER DID NOT HAVE COMPLETE CONTACT WITH THE WINDOW AND THERE WAS A RUST SPOT ON THE INSIDE LIP OF THE MOON ROOF. *SC *JB

2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE [4000 MI] BRAKES FAILED AND THROTTLE STUCK ON DEC 17, 2004. I HAD TO PULL HAND BRAKE TO STOP . CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP IN AMHERST VA. THROTTLE ASSY, IDLE CONTROL VALVE AND A 100MI ROAD TEST WERE DONE. PICKED VEHICLE UP ON JAN 14,2005. ON JAN 15TH, PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN WITH BRAKES NON-RESPONSIVE AND THROTTLE STUCK. SOMEONE ELSE WAS DRIVING AND THEY TURNED ENGINE OFF AND COASTED OFF THE ROAD. VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO DEALERSHIP IN AMHERST AND REMAINS THERE AT PRESENT.

I HAVE A BRAND NEW 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE THAT EVERY TIME YOU ATTEMPT TO FILL THE GAS TANK IT SPEWS OUT RAW FUEL OUT AND POLLUTE'S THE ATMOSPHERE AND CREATES A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD. THE DEALER CLAIM'S THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM AND CAN NOT BE CORRECTED. WHAT CAN EPA DO TO PUT A HALT TO THIS TYPE OF POLLUTION.
