MY ACCELERATOR HAS STUCK ON MANY OCCASIONS IN THIS VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY WHEN COLD. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS TIMES ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED IN THE MORNING, THE ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT ENGAGE WHEN THE GEAR WAS IN DRIVE. EVEN AFTER DRIVING, WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. OCCASIONALLY, THE PEDAL WOULD RESPOND NORMALLY WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE IT COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 127,000.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED APPROXIMATELY THREE YEARS AGO AND IT HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN AROUND TOWN EXCEPT TO MY HONEYMOON. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME FROM A FRIENDS HOUSE. SHE CALLED ME AND TOLD ME HER CAR WOULD NOT GO. I WENT TO SEE IF I COULD FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. AFTER SITTING NOT RUNNING FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES, THE CAR WOULD DRIVE AT 35 MPH FOR LESS THAT .5 MILES. I DID THIS FOR THE 10 MILES AND APPROXIMATELY 1.5 HOURS WE ARRIVED AT MY PARENTS HOUSE WHICH WAS THE CLOSEST LOCATION. AFTER SITTING ALL NIGHT, IT DID THE SAME THING. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE HOME IT WOULD ONLY REV THE ENGINE AND YOU COULD CHANGE GEARS WITHOUT ANYTHING HAPPENING TO THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE MECHANICS, $3600 LATE, THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT MAZDA KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THE TRANSMISSION VENDORS FROM WHICH MY NEW ONE WAS BOUGHT TOLD THE MECHANIC, THE PROBLEM IS DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID BECOMING TO HOT AND NOT BEING ABLE TO COOL DOWN FAST ENOUGH. AMAZING HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET ON THE SAME PROBLEM THAT HAPPEN TO ME AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE FOR MAZDA TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THE TRANSMISSION. VEHICLE STALLED OUT AT INTERSECTION WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN. VEHICLE WILL NOT GO IN REVERSE OR ENGAGE IN ANY GEARS. LUCKY THIS HAPPEN WHILE THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD. SOON AS VEHICLE WAS IN THE LEFT TURN, THE O/D LIGHT STARTING FLASHING WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. AAMCO PULL FIVE CODES OFF THE VEHICLE ONCE IS WAS TOWED TO THEIR LOCATION. THE BIG ONE IS 740 WHICH DEALS WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER. THIS MEANS THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS AN OVERHAUL DONE - GET READY FOR THE STICKER SHOCK FOR REBUILDING THIS TRANSMISSION $3,000.00. BUY A REBUILT TRANSMISSION AND THE COST IS STILL ABOUT THE SAME PRICE AS IF GETTING THIS ONE REBUILT. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON PEOPLE BUYING REBUILT TRANSMISSIONS, THEY HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THEM A COUPLE OF YEARS LATER. APPEARS MAZDA'S CHOICE OF TRANSMISSION FOR THIS VEHICLE WASN'T A LOGICAL CHOICE. FUNNY THOUGH ITS THE SAME TRANSMISSION THAT ARE IN FORD ESCAPES. NO PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN THAT VEHICLE AND ITS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE XLT WITH 153000 MILES ON IT. NHTSA NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE MAZDA TRIBUTE AND ISSUE A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION BY MAZDA. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ALREADY DONE, BUT THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. 2006 MAZDA TRIBUTE S 3.0L 6 CYL. 4X4 RECEIVED THE DREADED NEWS A P0740 CODE ALONG WITH 4 OTHERS ALL DEALING WITH THE TRANSMISSIONO. DRIVING MY CAR CAME TO A RED LIGHT AND VEHICLE WOULD THEN ONLY GO 30 MILES AN HOUR. PLUS WOULD NOT GO IN REVERSE ANYMORE. P0740 DEALS WITH A TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SYSTEM MALFUNCTION, P0720 OUTPUT SHAFT SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION AND SOME OTHERS DEALING WITH A SPEED CABLE, ETC.... APPEARS MAZDA TRIBUTE'S HAVE THIS KNOW PROBLEM AND MAZDA IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED MORE AND A RECALL ISSUED BY MAZDA FOR ALL YEARS ON THIS VEHICLE. MAINTENANCE WOULD DONE ON THE TRANSMISSION AT THE RIGHT INTERVALS AND THIS SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPEN. TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS CHECK BY THE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE FLUIDS. NOTICE MAZDA ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE BUT ONLY FOR 2000 - 2003 YEARS I BELIEVE. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, I NOTICE A LOT OF PEOPLE WERE HAVING TO GET THEIR TRANSMISSION OVERHAULED. KNEW I SHOULD OF STUCK WITH A FORD BECAUSE NO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH THEIR VEHICLES. ALL FORDS HAVE OVER 160000 MILES ON THEM. PLUS ONE A 2003 FORD F250 SUPER DUTY HAS OVER 218,000 MILES ON IT. WE PURCHASED A USED 2006 MAZDA TRIBUTE WITH ABOUT 83,000 MILES ON IT FROM A CAR DEALER. LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING IT, THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE AND THE ENGINE FAILED. THE ENGINE FAILED AFTER THE CAR WAS PARKED AND WE ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT.

ON FEB 14, 2014 MY MAZDA TRIBUTE 2006 WITHOUT ANY WARNING ENGINE FAILURE STALLED ON THE ROAD. ENGINE LIGHT MALFUNCTIONED NO WARNING ABOUT OIL LEVEL. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THE CAR DID NOT STALL CROSSING THE 26 MILES CAUSEWAY BRIDGE LOCATED IN NEW ORLEANS. I CALLED ROAD SERVICE BROUGHT CAR TO PARETTI MAZDA DEALERSHIP IN METAIRE LOUISIANA. I WAS TREATED EXTREMELY BADLY ALL SERVICE PERSONEL WERE RUDE AND REFUSED TO OFFER ANY OPTIONS ABOUT MY VEHICLE OTHER THAN $6200 FOR ENGINE REPAIR AND NO EXPLAINATION WHY THE ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT WORK. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH IN TOWN AND WITHOUT WARNING, MY ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE IT IS MAKING POPCORN. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. HE FOUND THAT THE ENGINE BLEW A SPARK PLUG. HE INSTALLED A HELICOIL REPAIR AND THEN FOUND THE ENGINE WOULD ONLY RUN ON 3 CYLINDERS. THEY THEN FOUND THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE COMPUTER AND ALL 6 IGNITION COILS OR THE COMPUTER WOULD NOT BE WARRANTED. AFTER THESE REPAIRS THERE WAS A TICKING NOISE IN THE ENGINE THAT HAD NOT BEEN THERE. THE CAR WAS THEN TOWED TO A MAZDA DEALERSHIP AS MY USUAL MECHANIC DOES NOT HAVE THE SPECIALIZED TOOLS FOR ENGINEER REPAIR, AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS METAL SLIVERS IN THE ENGINE AND RAN ENGINE CLEANER THROUGH THE ENGINE TWICE. THE NOISE IMPROVED, BUT IS STILL THERE. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME THAT I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE AND THE CAR ONLY HAS 94,055 MILES ON IT. THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT EXPLAIN WHY THE ENGINE BLEW A SPARK PLUG AND AFTER INVESTIGATION I FIND THAT THIS IS HAPPENING ON OTHER TRIBUTES THAT SHARE THE SAME ENGINE WITH FORD EXPLORERS. THIS SEEMS UNACCEPTABLE THAT AN ENGINE OF THIS AGE WOULD NEED REPLACED. THE CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED AND HAS HAD ALL THE SERVICE CALLS REQUIRED. *JB

JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A USED DEALERSHIP IN MILWAUKEE, WI. I HAVE A 90 DAY WARRANTY ON THE CAR. IN UNDER 30 DAYS THE ENGINE HAS LOCKED UP ON THIS TRUCK. I WAS GOING AT LEAST 10/15 MPH TURNING INTO THE BANK WHEN THE WHEEL LOCKED UP, THE ENGINE AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE TRUCK SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. IT WOULD NOT START AFTER THAT. FINALLY, AFTER IT DID START THERE IS A HORRIBLE KNOCKING. PROBABLY THREW A ROD..... MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD WITH A VEHICLE, AND THIS IS MY FIRST NEWER CAR!!!! I AM A TEACHER. I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDDLE AND IT WAS STUCK. I QUICKLY PUSHED THE BREAK, PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. I REMEMBER HEARING ABOUT THIS WITH TOYOTAS SO I PULLED UP MY CARPET THINKING IT MIGHT BE THAT. I STARTED BACK ON MY WAY TO WORK AND THE PEDDLE WAS NOT STUCK AT THIS POINT BUT STILL "STICKY". I REALIZED IT WAS NOT THE CARPET AT ALL, THE PEDAL WAS THE ISSUE! AFTER WORK I WAS TRYING TO PULL OUT OF MY PARKED SPOT. MY GAS PEDAL GOT STUCK AGAIN. MY CAR WAS ACCELERATING ON ITS' OWN. I TRIED THE BRAKE IT WOULD NOT HELP. I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND IT SLOWED DOWN. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP THE CAR. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON AND COULD NOT FIGURE IT OUT. I GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND TRIED AGAIN, IT WAS STILL STUCK. THIS WAS SO BAD BECAUSE NOT ONLY WAS IT DANGEROUS FOR ME, I AM A TEACHER AND THE STUDENTS WALK THROUGH THE PARKING LOT ALL THE TIME. I WAS HAVING MY BRAKES REPLACED BY MY BOYFRIEND. HE WAS USING THE JACK TO RAISE THE VEHICLE UP TO TAKE THE TIRE OFF TO CHANGE THE BRAKES. HE RAISED THE VEHICLE, REMOVED THE TIRE AND THEN WITHOUT WARNING THE JACK COLLAPSED AND BENT. THE VEHICLE FELL TO THE CONCRETE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARALLEL PARK, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINE APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN CUT OUT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS IMPOSSIBLE. THE MECHANIC THEN SPECULATED THAT THE BRAKE LINE MAY HAVE BECOME LOOSE ON ITS OWN. THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH FRONT BRAKE LINES. A WEEK LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BRAKING PROPERLY. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY FOUND NO FAILURES. THE FOLLOWING DAY, WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL AT 10 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. SHE MANAGED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE FLUID HAD LEAKED OUT AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE MECHANIC AND HE STATED THAT THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED, BUT ONLY TO THE REAR BRAKES. BOTH REAR BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED AT THAT TIME. CURRENTLY, THE ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED OR REGROUNDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED JUST BEFORE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. MAZDA WAS UNHELPFUL WITH EXPLAINING THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED SO THAT THE FAILURE DOES NOT RECUR IN TWO YEARS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

A MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL AND THE SHOCK MOUNT WERE EXTREMELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. I HEARD A BANGING SOUND COMING FROM THE BACK OF MY VEHICLE ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT THE PASSENGER RIGHT SIDE WHEEL WELL HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY AND THE REAR SUSPENSION WAS BANGING AROUND, I COULD ACTUALLY SEE THE BED LINING OF THE VEHICLE SCARY WHEN YOUR DRIVING AROUND A 3 YEAR OLD! I BROUGHT TO A FRAME SHOP AND WAS QUOTED $2500 FOR REPAIR AND BASICALLY TOLD TO SCRAP THE VEHICLE (VERY DISCONCERTING WHEN THERE ARE ONLY 140,000 MILES ON IT),. AFTER RESEARCHING IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS VEHICLE AND I AM HOPING THAT IT IS ADDRESSED WITH A RECALL. I DID END UP FINDING AN AUTO BODY REPAIR SHOP TO COMPLETE THE REPAIRS FOR $800 WHO TOLD ME HE IS SEEING MANY DRIVERS WITH THIS EXACT ISSUE WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. AFTER TAKING THE BACK END OFF HE SAID THAT THE OTHER SIDE IS ABOUT TO GO AS WELL. I AM NOW STUCK IN AN ETHICAL DILEMMA DO I SELL TO ANOTHER PARTY TO GET MY MONEY BACK ON A DOWN PAYMENT FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE OR DO I JUNK THIS VEHICLE THAT IS UNSAFE AND TAKE THE LOSS SO THAT THIS DOESN'T BECOME SOMEONE ELSE'S PROBLEM. FOR THE PAST YEAR, THE VEHICLE'S ACCELERATOR/GAS PEDAL HAS AT TIMES FELT "STUCK" SO THAT THE DRIVER MUST PRESS DOWN HARDER THAN NORMAL TO ACCELERATE. ORIGINALLY THE DRIVER WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THE MAT WAS OBSTRUCTING THE GAS PEDAL'S ABILITY TO BE DEPRESSED. OVER TIME HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE HAS SHOWN AN INCREASED DIFFICULTY IN THE GAS PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. MOST RECENTLY, ON JANUARY 23, 2014, THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING WHILE IN TRAFFIC. WHEN THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO PRESS DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT MOVE. THE DRIVER WAS FORCED TO PRESS HARD ON THE ACCELERATOR, AND WHEN DOING SO, THE ACCELERATOR BECAME "STUCK" AND QUICKLY JOLTED THE VEHICLE FORWARD. THE DRIVER HAD TO IMMEDIATELY PRESS DOWN ON THE BRAKE TO AVOID COLLISION WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. THE SPEED AT THE TIME WAS LESS THAN 15 MILES PER HOUR AND THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP AVOIDING COLLISION. SINCE THE INCIDENT ON JANUARY 23, THE VEHICLE'S GAS PEDAL HAS INCREASINGLY SHOWN MORE "STICKING" AND HAS BECOME VERY HARD TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT APPLYING A GREAT AMOUNT OF PRESSURE DOWN ON THE PEDAL. THIS CAUSES CONCERN AS THE VEHICLE QUICKLY ACCELERATES IN A JUMP-LIKE MANNER RATHER THAN SLOWLY ACCELERATING TO A COMFORTABLE DRIVING SPEED. WHILE PASSING A SLOWER VEHICLE ON A TWO LANE ROAD, THE MAZDA TRIBUTE'S ACCELERATOR STUCK. I LET OFF THE GAS AT 65MPH BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE TO OVER 4000 RPM AND 85 MPH. THE BRAKES DID LITTLE TO SLOW THE CAR(I GOT IT DOWN TO 80MPH). TRYING TO RAISE OR MOVE THE GAS PEDDLE DID NOTHING TO CHANGE THE SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL GEAR AND AS THE CAR SLOWED DOWN, I APPLIED THE HAND (EMERGENCY) BRAKE AND PULLED OFF THE ROAD ONTO A WIDE SHOULDER. STARTING THE ENGINE AGAIN LATER, IT STARTED AT THE PREVIOUS HIGH RPM'S. I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK AND DID NOT DRIVE IT FURTHER .I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SUDDENLY ACCELERATING FOR AN INSTANT BEFORE RETURNING TO NORMAL SETTINGS. AFTER COMING TO A STOP AT AN UPHILL GRADE--APPROX A 20 DEGREE INCLINE, AS SOON AS THE BRAKE IS RELEASED, THE VEHICLE ROLLS BACKWARDS. THE ONLY MEANS TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING BACK IS TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE AGAIN OR TO IMMEDIATELY PRESS HARD ON THE GAS PEDAL. HOWEVER, ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STARTS MOVING UPHILL, THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF BACKWARD TRAVEL PRIOR TO THE ENGINE PRODUCING ENOUGH POWER TO OVERCOME THE BACKWARD ROLL. PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON 4/7/06 AND ON 4/8/06 I OBSERVED THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS. VEHICLE PRODUCES A NOTICEABLE WHINING/HUMMING NOISE AND VIBRATION THAT IS FELT THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL DURING THE FOLLOWING SITUATIONS: 1) WHEN THE CAR IS INITIALLY STARTED, 2) WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS SLIGHTLY PRESSED WHILE THE GEAR IS IN THE PARK POSITION 3) WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COMING TO A STOP WITH OR WITHOUT PUSHING ON THE BRAKES, 4) WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED EITHER TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. UPON NOTICING NOISE AND VIBRATION, I TOOK IT TO BACK TO THE DEALER ON 4/10/06. I WAS TOLD TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AT 8:30 A.M ON 4/11/06. AT 3:30 ON 4/11/06, THE DEALER CONTACTED ME AND SAID THAT THE TECH NOTICED THE NOISE AND VIBRATION BUT DID NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED IT. DEALER TESTED ANOTHER VEHICLE OF THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL AND SAID THAT BOTH VEHICLES WERE MAKING THE SAME NOISE AND THAT IT WAS JUST PROBABLY NORMAL ENGINE NOISE. UPON ARRIVING AT THE DEALERSHIP, THE TECH TOOK ME TO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND WE LISTENED TO THE ENGINE. 2006 MAZADA TRIBUTE- Consumer sent a request to Mazda North America to request estimate for cost of repair for replacement of the sensor and switches on the doors and service to the "door ajar" alarm system. Mazda customer care stated they wouldn't be able to provide assistance in the issue. The vehicle is out of warranty and there is no open recalls or special service programs. Consumer resubmitted request to Mazda. Consumer states: "This is the responsibility of the manufacturer! This feature·, (Door Ajar) notification is a major preventative safety item that should have an interrupt feature within. It does not! The defect of malfunction, ringing of the chime, is a conscience detraction element that cannot be tolerated continuously!" The consumer stated the cost of repairs will cost $4590 and feels this is the responsibility of the manufacturer.

THE CONTACT WALKED TO SULLIVAN FORD LINCOLN INC (759 MAGEE DR, BROOKHAVEN, MS 39601, (601) 833-7521), BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO ASSIST THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO BILL HOOD MAZDA (333 N MORRISON BLVD, HAMMOND, LA 70401, (866) 726-1249) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS AWAITING TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 250,000.

MY MAZDA TRIBUTE V 6, 3.0 ALL OF A SUDDEN STOPPED ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY SON'S HOUSE, THAN TO THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP. IT WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I WAS TOLD WHAT HAD OCCURRED. MY COILS HAD BLOWN OUT AND DAMAGED MY (PCM)COMPUTER. THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $2689. I COULD NOT AFFORD THE DEALERSHIP'S COST SO I HAD IT TOWED AGAIN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE HE REPLACED THE COILS. I WENT ON EBAY AND FOUND A REASONABLY PRICED PCM WHERE IT WAS PROGRAMMED KEYS INCLUDED. MY RESEARCH HAS LED ME INTO WRITING THIS LETTER. I FOUND THAT FORD MOTORS AND THEIR AFFILIATES HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THE COILS BLOWING OUT THE PCM FOR QUITE SOME TIME AND HAVE NEVER TOLD THE OWNERS OF THEIR VEHICLES ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. IF I HAD KNOWN I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE.

DRIVING VEHICLE ON A RESIDENTIAL ROAD, AS I ACCELERATED UP SMALL HILL, TRANSMISSION DID NOT SHIFT FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. RPMS SPIKED TO 5000 THEN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED HARD INTO NEXT GEAR. SINCE THIS INCIDENT THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED MORE FREQUENTLY, NO MATTER WHAT THE ELEVATION. BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM THE TRIBUTE HAS NO POWER AND NO ACCELERATION UNTIL SHIFTING. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MY VEHICLE HAS HAD A STICKY GAS PEDAL. I ALERTED THE DEALERSHIP IN THE PAST ADVISING OF THIS SAME ISSUE REGARDING MY PRIOR 2003 MAZDA TRIBUTE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD IN THE PAST TO CHANGE THE GAS UTILIZED. IN ADDITION, I WAS RECENTLY ADVISED TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE DUE TO A POSSIBLE RECALL. AS THE WEATHER GETS COLD, THE GAS PEDAL BECOMES HARDER TO DEPRESS, AND AT TIMES WILL NOT DEPRESS AT ALL. THIS HAS CAUSED NUMEROUS NEAR MISSES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AROUND A TURN AS THE PEDAL WILL LOCK IN PLACE AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH WHEN THE CAR STARTED JERKING AND THREATENING TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. THE "O/D OFF" LIGHT STARTED FLASHING ON THE CONSOLE. I PULLED OFF AT THE NEXT EXIT AND THE LIGHT STOPPED FLASHING AND THE CAR STOPPED JERKING. THE MINUTE I GOT BACK ON THE FREEWAY IT STARTED AGAIN. I HAVE SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH MY MAZDA TRIBUTE 4 CYLINDER 2WD. THE #1 PROBLEM IS THAT THE GAS PEDDLE FREEZES ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S COLD OUTSIDE. I TRY TO PRESS DOWN ON IT AND IT DOESN'T MOVE. I HAVE TO DO THIS A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE IT STARTS WORKING AND THEN I HAVE TO BE CAREFUL THAT I DON'T GO SHOOTING ACROSS THE RODE. I WAS TOLD THIS COULD BE CARBON BUILDUP BY THE DEALERS SERVICEMAN. I ALSO HAVE TO PUT AIR IN THE TIRES EVERY WEEK WHEN IT'S COLD AND EVERY OTHER WEEK WHEN IT'S NOT. I HAD A TIRE PRESSURE VALVE LEAK IN ONE OF THE TIRES AND NOW I THINK I HAVE ANOTHER. MY VEHICLE HAS 54440 MILES ON IT AND THE FURTHER IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN IS 36 MILES. IT IS USED FOR LOCAL DRIVING ONLY AS I WOULD BE AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ANY FURTHER THAN THAT. I ALSO NEED FRONT STABILIZER LINKS. I JUST REPLACED THE BATTERY BUT NOW WHEN I TRY TO START THE VEHICLE, EVERYTHING LIGHTS UP BUT IT DOESN'T START OR MAKE ANY SOUND WHEN I TURN THE KEY. I HAVE TO TRY THIS SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT FINALLY STARTS. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW AND I HAVE ALL THESE PROBLEMS. THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE IS WORTHLESS, I SLIDE ALL OVER THE PLACE AND FISH TAIL BACKING UP IN MY DRIVEWAY. THESE PROBLEMS ARE SEVERAL TIMES A DAY AND I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO KEEP FIXING THESE PROBLEMS BECAUSE THIS VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THESE PROBLEMS. MY 2006 TRIBUTE HAS 47,000 MILES. THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON-AND STAYED ON, AND THE 4WD LIGHT FLASHED ON AND OFF 3 OR 4 TIMES ABOUT EVERY MILE. OUR DEALER INSPECTED AND FOUND IT WAS A BROKEN PART IN THE FRONT AXLE, WHICH WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THEY KEPT THE CAR OVERNIGHT AND REPLACED IT. I ASKED IF WE COULD EXPECT THIS TO HAPPEN TO THE OTHER AXLE AND THEY COULD NOT GIVE A DEFINITIVE ANSWER. EVEN MORE TROUBLING IS THE FACT THAT NOW THE CAR PULLS TO THE RIGHT.
