Was driving the car in a neighborhood setting only going 20 mph, ABS light turned on the dashboard, traction control light or some other light regarding traction came on as well, brakes failed. Had to use parking brake to stop the vehicle.

While driving normally, yellow brake warning lights came on but I arrived home without incident. Next time I drove, the warning lights were all off, but suddenly the brakes failed almost completely. I pushed the pedal to the floor and heard a grinding/clicking sound, and barely any stopping power. I was only going 25 mph, and was able to stop after 5 seconds of high foot pressure. At the same time, red brake warning light came on. I was able to get the car home very slowly, and strangely I had adequate braking power for the remainder of the short trip (although red and yellow brake warning lights remain on). I am happy to provide the car for inspection. This was extremely dangerous to the nearby pedestrians because I could not have stopped the vehicle had one been crossing in front of me. Had this happened at highway speeds, my passenger and I would have been in great danger, as would have other vehicles.

I was driving about 30mph and suddenly out of nowhere my brakes went out. They went out for about 1 second and some lights went out - then I slammed on the brakes, skidded to a halt and stopped in the. middle of the road, nearly crashing. We took it to the garage and they ran two codes and told us to take it to the dealer. The dealer quoted us about $8,000 and said it needed to "replace electrically driven brake control unit AND e-harness (engine room harness) (240123nh1d)". This makes the car dangerous to drive due to failures beyond our control or regular maintenance. This is a car failure and should be covered by a recall. It is simply not safe to drive. Looking online, this has happened to other Nissan Leafs of the same year/model as well.

I was driving my vehicle and the brakes suddenly stopped working. Upon failure, the ABS warning light as well as the braking system warning lights came on. I had to use my emergency brake to stop the vehicle. I had my vehicle towed to Nissan. The Nissan dealership mechanic said it was a Master Cylinder Brake Controller malfunction. It is currently at the dealership and available for inspection. The cost to repair the brake system exceeds the value of the car. This put my safety at risk because I could not safely stop my vehicle. I was minutes away from merging onto the freeway. Had I been traveling at high speeds without any braking system, my life and others would have been at risk.

Driving normally when the brake light, abs light, and traction control light came on.Brakes were unresponsiveness unless brake pedal was fully depressed causing a the ABS brakes to engage. This caused difficulty stopping and was required to use parking brake to slow down. Restarted vehicle several times but problem persisted. Nissan dealership stated that the intelligent braking system needed to be replaced as that is what their computer stated as all the codes indicated that the module was defective. Codes and diagnostic report attached.

My Intelligent Brake Unit failed. I was slowing down at a major intersection to stop. The ABS system activated and the brakes did not respond appropriately. The pedal went soft. Multiple lights on the dashboard lit up. My two year old child was in the vehicle with me, and we are still recovering from this traumatic experience. I considered the car disabled and had it towed to a mechanic. I then brought it to a Nissan dealership who identified that the entire intelligent brake unit needs replacing for $5,500, which is more than half of what I paid for the vehicle.

Warning lights, abs light and brake light illuminated out of nowhere. Unable to brake. Used a lot of force to get the car to slow down. Dealership inspected and said module short circuited.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The electronic braking system seems to have randomly failed due to some electrical glitch. Mechanically the braking system works fine but during this incident the ABS system kicked in causing the car to shutter and the brake petal went to the floor with 0 braking power. Was forced to put the car in Park and apply the emergency brake in the middle of the road in traffic to ensure it would stop. Cycled the car on and off multiple times to see if that would help reset the car but the problem persisted. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Putting other drivers on the road at risk if we were not able to stop the car could have caused property damage and personal injury to others on the road and my family who was in the car. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The problem has been reproduced 3 times but the last time being more severe and power cycling the car didn’t correct the issue like the prior two incidents. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle is going to be inspected by myself and possibly the manufacturers dealership depending on my findings. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There was no prior warning all warnings come inline with the brake failure.

I approached a red light at an intersection intending to make a right turn. As I pressed the brakes to stop before the turn, the car did not slow and I was forced to make the turn against the red light. After the turn I was able to stop the car using the parking brake. After coming to a stop I noticed multiple warning lights on the instrument panel had come on which were not on previously.

Just after starting my car, it began moving in reverse on its own even though the car was in 'park' and my foot was firmly pressed down on the brake pedal. It wouldn't stop moving, even with the brake pedal pressed down, until I lifted my foot completely off the brake pedal and then pressed it again. A few days before this happened, a few lights on the dashboard began randomly lighting up, but none seemed related the braking issue. The battery light was one of them. (I don't remember which other ones light up.) So, I tried changing the 12V battery and that fixed the problem. A vehicle moving on it own when it is not supposed to be in motion and the brake pedal not working at the same time is a very serious safety issue. It is not common behaviour for a vehicle to move on its own when the 12v battery is low. This unexpected behaviour could lead to serious accidents. I did not bring this to the dealer since i was able to replace the 12v battery on my own and it resolved my problem.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOWING YARD WHERE IT WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THERE WAS ONE INJURY THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT SUFFERED FROM BACK PAIN AND PAIN TO THE RIGHT HAND AND THUMB PAIN. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 25,000.

THE PASSENGER AIR BAG TURNS ON AT RANDOM TIMES WHEN A PASSENGER (OVER 140 POUNDS) IS IN THE SEAT. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY, BUT CONSISTENTLY. WE'VE TRIED DIFFERENT CONFIGURATIONS; GETTING IN THE SEAT AFTER THE CAR HAS STARTED, HOPING UP AND DOWN (TRYING TO TRIGGER THE WEIGHT SENSOR), CHANGING OCCUPANTS, UN-BUCKLING AND RE-BUCKLING THE SEAT BELT. NOTHING SEEMS TO MAKE THE ISSUE GO AWAY. CAR IS AT THE DEALERSHIP, SO FAR THEY HAVE NO LEADS.

My 2015 Nissan Leaf is suffering from advanced battery degradation. The car would only charge to 55 miles per charge. The car also has only 85,000 miles only. Nissan refused to address or fix the issue as the car was past the 7 year warranty (even though the book says 8 year warranty). Battery should still go to 150 miles per charge. Dealership claimed degradation from charging at super chargers. Car has only ever been charge at home as it is only driven 2 - 3,000 miles per year. Car stopped in the middle of the highway. Police had to come move to the side of the road. No one was injured although many could have been.

Backup camera shows blank black screen intermittently. Shifting into park and back to reverse does not resolve. Several hours later it seems to resolve.

THE OCS SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO ONLY DEPLOY THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED BY AN ADULT. IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, THE OCS SOFTWARE MAY INCORRECTLY CLASSIFY THE PASSENGER SEAT AS EMPTY WHEN IT IS OCCUPIED BY AN ADULT. IF THE OCS DOES NOT DETECT AN ADULT OCCUPANT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WOULD BE DEACTIVATED. I was driving with one passenger going at very low speed. I began to turn into parking area and suddenly the car accelerated at an alarming speed. I applied total pressure on the brake to no avail, it did not override the acceleration. I steered into the back of another parked vehicle. The impact pushed the large heavy vehicle down into a ditch and deployed the airbags for both myself and passenger. 911 was called, Police arrived, tow trucks. My vehicle was totalled, and insurance now has the claim. If this has occurred on a highway or busy city street, many lives would have been at risk.

The car stopped responding to accelerator pedal and eventually stopped in the middle of the road just before a hill. Haven't noticed any error messages and instrument panels seemed normal. Switched off power and then turned on again, the car worked normally. I am going to bring the car to a service center but it seems hard to find an appointment.

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Leaf. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the engine temperature warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact depressed the brake pedal and pulled up the parking brake; however, both failed to operate as needed. The contact made a right turn safely and ran onto a curb to bring the vehicle to a stop. The contact drove safely to the destination. The warning lights disappeared. The failure recurred twice within two weeks with no warning light illuminated. The contact notified the manufacturer and was informed that a previous recall had been performed. The vehicle had been towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Leaf. The contact stated his wife was driving approximately 30 MPH as she was slowing for a traffic signal, the vehicle lost all brake function. The contact's wife safely steered the vehicle to the side of the road. The contact stated that he observed that the brake light, ABS light, and the traction control warning light were illuminated. Additionally, the contact noted that when he stepped on the brake pedal there was only a clicking sound and the pedal was depressed to the floorboard. The contact had the vehicle towed to his residence. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Leaf. The contact stated while driving 10 MPH, the battery warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was towed to the residence and the battery was re-charged. The vehicle was restarted however, the failure recurred several times. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer who inspected the vehicle but could not determine the cause for the failure. The contact then took the vehicle to Port City Nissan (120 Spaulding Turnpike, Portsmouth, NH 03801, (603) 431-6500) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the firmware update needed to be performed. The dealer performed the software update however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 41,000.

WHILE I WAS ACCELERATING TO 60MPH FROM A STOP LIGHT ON US 287 AND ISABELLE ROAD IN BOULDER COUNTY, COLORADO, THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNCONTROLLED TO OVER 70. ACCELERATOR PEDAL SEEMED TO NOT WORK AT ALL. I BRAKED AND SLOWED DOWN BUT IT WAS FIGHTING THE MAXIMUM ACCELERATION. I TRIED PUMPING THE BRAKES AND KEPT SLOWING DOWN AND THE CAR LOST ALL ENGINE POWER AND SEEMED TO BRAKE ITSELF. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. TURNED IT BACK ON AND ALL SEEMED NORMAL. I AM CONCERNED THAT OTHERS MAY PANIC IN THIS SITUATION AND NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR. THE 2015 NISSAN LEAF I DRIVE HAS 31,000 MILES ON IT NOW AND HAS HAD ALL UPDATES AND SERVICES.

BRAKES FAILED UPON STARTING THE CAR. MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD (BRAKE, ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, AND BRAKE SYSTEM) RESULTING IN TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE - CANNOT STOP THE CAR WITH NORMAL BRAKING EVEN WHILE JUST PUTTING THE CAR INTO DRIVE/REVERSE FROM PARK. STARTED HAPPENING ~3 WEEKS AGO. THE ONLY THING THAT STOPS THE CAR IS THE EMERGENCY / PARKING BRAKE. IF PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY, JUST BEFORE HITTING THE FLOOR THERE IS A LOUD POPPING / GRINDING NOISE AND THE PARKING BRAKE (?) ENGAGES. THE FIRST TIME, TURNING THE CAR OFF/ON FIXED IT. WE TOOK IT TO OUR LOCAL NISSAN DEALER, THEY SAID "COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE IN THEIR SYSTEM" AND SAID IT WAS A "FLUKE" AND WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW DAYS LATER AND TURNING THE CAR OFF/ON DIDN'T HELP, AND THE CAR WAS STUCK IN OUR DRIVEWAY. TRIED REPLACING THE 12V BATTERY, WHICH FIXED THE ISSUE TEMPORARILY. HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW DAYS AFTER THAT AND HAD TO GET IT TOWED BACK TO NISSAN. *NOW* THEY FOUND THE ISSUE IN THEIR SYSTEM AND THINK IT'S THE "DRIVEN INTELLIGENT BRAKE UNIT" AND COSTS $2600+ TO FIX. THEY ALSO SAY THE "MAIN ENGINE HARNESS" MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR SOME REASON AS WELL, COSTING ANOTHER $2400+. HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN USA, THEY TOLD ME THEY DON'T HAVE A RECORD OF THIS BEING A PROBLEM WITH LEAFS (EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS ON HERE) AND REFUSES TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. THIS BRAKE SYSTEM IS *EXTREMELY UNSAFE* FOR THE DRIVER & PASSENGERS, AND EVERYONE AROUND IT. MY KIDS COULD HAVE BEEN NEAR THE CAR WHEN IT STARTED MOVING ON ITS OWN EVEN THOUGH I WAS PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL. NO ONE NEEDS TO DIE OR GET GRAVELY INJURED BECAUSE OF THIS FAULTY SYSTEM.

MY CAR WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY OF MY HOUSE. I TURNED IT ON LIKE I DO NORMALLY AND I THEN I SEE THE RED BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS AND THE ABS WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD. I DIDN'T THINK TOO MUCH OF IT AS I WAS RUSHING TO GET SOMEWHERE. MY DRIVEWAY IS SLOPED DOWN SO WHEN I PUT IT ON DRIVE, I HAD TO STEP ON THE BRAKES. I NOTICED IT DIDN'T WORK AS I DEPRESSED IT ALL THE WAY DOWN. THEN I QUICKLY USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKES SINCE MY CAR WAS SLOWLY ROLLING DOWN. MY CAR IS 3 YEARS OLD, HAS ABOUT 35,000 MILES AND HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED.

I WAS DRIVING IN SOMEWHAT HEAVY TRAFFIC IN AN URBAN SETTING AT 25MPH WHEN, UNEXPECTEDLY, I HAD GREAT DIFFICULTY APPLYING THE BRAKES TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. IT TOOK CONSIDERABLE EFFORT, INCLUDING SWERVING, TO AVOID HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, AND I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AS SOON AS I WAS ABLE, AGAIN HAVING GREAT TROUBLE STOPPING. THE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE BRAKES FELT LIKE I WAS SKIDDING ON SNOW OR ICE, DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT WAS A FAIRLY WARM AUGUST DAY. THERE WAS AN ACCOMPANYING LOUD, UNPLEASANT SOUND COMING FROM THE BRAKES WHEN I STOMPED ON THEM. I HAD ALSO NOTICED THAT A NUMBER OF WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH HAD COME ON ALL AT THE SAME TIME WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED. AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE PARKING LOT, I TURNED THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF MANY TIMES, AND EACH TIME, THERE WAS A LOW BUT CLEARLY AUDIBLE THRUMMING SOUND, PLUS A VIBRATION I COULD FEEL IN THE BRAKES. THE SOUND WAS PARTICULARLY SURPRISING TO HEAR, GIVEN THAT THE VEHICLE IS OTHERWISE AN EXTREMELY QUIET (100% ELECTRIC) VEHICLE. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE VEHICLE ABOUT TEN TIMES, I DECIDED TO LEAVE TO WAIT FOR AWHILE BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO START IT AGAIN. AFTER ABOUT 20 MIN., I STARTED THE VEHICLE WITHOUT TROUBLE AND CAUTIOUSLY DROVE IT HOME ON LARGELY EMPTY SIDE-STREETS.

THE TIRES ON MY BRAND NEW NISSAN LEAF WENT OUT AT 15,000 MILES. THESE CARS HAVE NO SPARE WHEEL SO WHEN WE HAD FLAT TIRE WE HAD TO TOW IT TO THE TIRE SHOP AND PAY THE TOW TRUCK FROM OUR POCKET. NISSAN WEBSITE HAVE 36,000 MILES WARRANTY ON TIRES LISTED, BUT WHEN I CALLED NISSAN THEY SAID TIRE WARRANTY IS THOUGH BRIDGESTONE WHO MANUFACTURE THE TIRES ACCORDING TO NISSAN. THEY INSTALL ON NISSAN LEAF. I TOLD THEM NISSAN SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE SINCE BUYERS DO NOT KNOW WHO MADE EACH INDIVIDUAL PART OF THE CAR. ANYWAY, WHEN I CALLED BRIDGESTONE THEY SAID THEY CAN NOT HELP ME. AS A BUYER OF NEW CAR IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO HAVE TIRES GOES OUT AT 15,000 MILES. I HAVE DONE THE RECOMMENDED TIRE ROTATION AT 7500 MILES. ALL I WANT FROM NISSAN TO INSTALL TIRES AS THEY SHOULD UNDER WARRANTY AND REIMBURSE FOR THE TROUBLE ONLY FOR THE MONEY I SPENT NOT FOR TROUBLE AS I LOST SO MUCH TIME. SO FAR I HAVE TO REPLACE 2 TIRES AND THE CAR CURRENTLY HAVE 23,400 MILES. FIRST INCIDENT WITH TIRE HAPPENED AT 15,000 MILES. THE TWO ORIGINAL TIRES CONDITIONS ARE REALLY BAD. IT IS COMPLETELY WORN OUT.

WHENEVER WE COME TO A STOP FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR A STOP SIGN, AND THE SPEED OF THE CAR IS < 3 MILES , WE NOTICED THAT WHEN WE APPLY BRAKES, THEY DO NOT GET APPLIED IMMEDIATELY. THERE IS A SUDDEN SURGE IN ACCELERATION BEFORE THE CAR COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS IS VERY NOTICEABLE ESPECIALLY WHEN WE APPLY BRAKES TO SLOW THE CAR BEFORE A TRAFFIC SIGNAL OR STOP SIGN AND ALSO IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. MY 2015 LEAF S IS 3 WEEKS OLD WITH LESS THAN 700 MILES. I WAS DESCENDING AN 8% GRADE HILL IN B MODE WITH A SHARP BEND AT THE BOTTOM. AS I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND B MODE CUT OUT. THE CAR WAS NOW ROLLING DOWN THE HILL AND ACCELERATING UNDER GRAVITY WITH NO BRAKES AND WITHOUT B MODE SLOWING THE CAR. I WAS EXPECTING TO HIT A BRICK WALL AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL WHEN SUDDENLY, AFTER NO MORE THAN TWO SECONDS, THE BRAKES AND B MODE CAME BACK ON AND I SAFELY STOPPED.
