I HAVE A 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA AND THE SLIP / TCS / CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNS ON THEN IT STARTS TO SHAKE N LOOSES POWER. ENGINE LIGHT BLINKS AT TIMES.. I REPLACE ALL COILS AND SPARK PLUS WITH DEALER AND THEY TELL ME THE I NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE COIL HARNESS WHICH IS AROUND $1,000.. THEY SAY THAT THESE CARS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS.. HI, I HAVE A 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA. I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM FROM OTHER 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA OWNERS. MY CAR STALLS, SHAKES, HESITATES AND LOOSES POWER, IT ACTS LIKE IT WANTS TO SHUT OFF. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, THE TRAC OFF LIGHT AND THE SLIP LIGHT COME ON ALL WHICH ARE SAID TO BE CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE IGNITION COILS. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED ONE AND NOT EVEN 1 MONTH LATER THE CAR STARTED DOING THE SAME THING, MEANING I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE ALL SIX COILS. I BELIEVE NISSAN HAS TO DO A RECALL BECAUSE THAT IS A VERY DANGEROUS THING TO BE DRIVING AND YOUR CAR TO STALL OUT LIKE THAT. I BELIEVE THAT THE OWNERS OF THE 2000 NISSAN MAXIMAS WITH THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE MONEY WE HAVE TO PAY OUT TO FIX A PART THAT NISSAN DID NOT BUILD CORRECT. *TR

CAR RAN ROUGH AND STALLED, TOOK IT TO SHOP AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE COILS AT A COST OF ALMOST $1,000. THIS HAPPENED AT 65,000 MILES. 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA'S HAVE A SERIOUS ENGINE IGNITION COIL DEFECT. -- THIS DEFECT CAUSES THE ENGINE TO RUN ROUGH, STALL AND ABRUPTLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY STOP DURING NORMAL USE. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS LITTLE (IF ANY) VALUE IN HELPING ALERT THE DRIVER TO THE SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE. THE ENGINE HAS 6 SEPARATE COILS. THE FIRST COIL FAILED AND WAS REPLACED BY THE NISSAN DEALER. IT WAS NOT COVERED BY ANY TYPE OF NISSAN WARRANTY. WITHIN A 90 DAY PERIOD, TWO ADDITIONAL COILS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. EVENTUALLY, ALL 6 IGNITION COILS ULTIMATELY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $900.00. THE DEALER STATED THIS WAS A "VERY COMMON PROBLEM" WITH THIS MODEL, AND SAID EVENTUALLY ALL OF THE COILS FAIL WITH THIS NISSAN YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. HE PROVIDE THE FAILURE CODE P1320 AND NISSAN SERVICE REFERENCE: NTB01-059. THE WORK WAS PERFORMED BY A NISSAN DEALER IN ARIZONA. THIS MANUFACTURES DEFECT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BY NHTSA AND NISSAN NEEDS TO SERVICE THESE UNITS BEFORE IT RESULTS IN ADDITIONAL ACCIDENTS, FIRE OR FATALITIES. *TR

DURING ROUTINE INSPECTION AT NISSAN DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN DISCOVERED THAT THE STUCTURAL SUPPORT FOR THE RADIATOR WAS ROTTED. THE STRUCTURAL SUPPORT ALSO SUPPORTS THE ENGINE. DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE ENGINE MOUNT IS COMPROMISED. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON DEFECT, AS I OBSERVED AT LEAST 5 OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS POSTED ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE. OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE NOTIFIED OF THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION.

THE RADIATOR SUPPORT WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE AND NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. MY NISSAN WAS PARKED ON THE STREET ABOUT 11:00 PM. THE FOLLOWING MORNING, JUST BEFORE 7:00 AM, I HAD KNOCKING AT MY DOOR AND IT WAS THE FIREMAN WANTING THE KEYS TO MY CAR SO THEY COULD ACCESS THE LATCH TO OPEN THE HOOD. SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE SIDES OF THE HOOD AND THE FIREMEN WERE ALREADY SPRAYING MY HOOD AS THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. SINCE THE LATCH DID NOT WORK, AN ELECTRIC SAW WAS USED TO OPEN IT. THE ENGINE WAS DOUSED WITH THE FIRE HOSE TILL THE SMOKE STOPPED. YOU COULD SEE THAT THE WHOLE ENGINE WAS BLACK. THE FIRE WAS SO STRONG THAT THE FRONT WAS SITTING ON TOP OF THE FRONT TIRE. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED AS AN ACCIDENT WITH CAUSE UNKNOWN AND MUST HAVE BEEN BURNING ANYWHERE FROM 30 TO 90 MINUTES. ODD THAT A FIRE WOULD START SINCE THE CAR WAS SITTING OVERNIGHT FOR 6 TO 7 HOURS, COLD. I WAS FORTUNATE NOT TO BE IN THE CAR. IT WAS LUCKY THAT IT WAS A RAINY DAY AND CAUGHT EARLY BY A NEIGHBOR BEFORE IT AFFECTED ANY OTHER CARS, PEOPLE, AND RESIDENTIAL AREA BY BLOWING UP. IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE NISSAN'S EXPLANATION TO THIS INCIDENT.

AFTER DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS FOR 20 MINUTES, GOT OFF HIGHWAY AND PULLED INTO GAS STATION. AFTER PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THE CAR SHUT OFF. AFTER COMING OUT OF THE STORE, IT FAILED TO START. WENT BACK TO THE CAR LATER, AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. TOOK TO MECHANIC, BLAMED THE SERVICE LIGHT ON THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM. CAME ON AGAIN 2-3 WEEKS LATER, TOOK TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WAS THE IGNITION COILS. QUOTED ME $1300 TO REPLACE ALL 6. OPTED NOT TO PERFORM REPAIR AT THAT TIME. 2 WEEKS LATER, THE COIL FAILED AND CAUSED THE CAR TO RUN VERY ROUGH, AS WELL AS CONSUME LARGE AMOUNTS OF GAS. REPLACED BROKEN COIL AND O2 SENSOR. MY MAXIMA JUMPS OR SLIPS OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING. I WAS JUST DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL. LONG DRIVES IN HOT WEATHER (ABOVE 85 DEGREES) CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. IT USUALLY OCCURS 45 MINUTES INTO A STEADY DRIVE OF 60 TO 75 MPH OR HEAVY STOP AND START DRIVING. PULLING OVER AND WAITING 10 TO 15 MINUTES WILL CURE THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER IT WILL OCCUR AGAIN IF THE SAME TYPE OF DRIVING CONTINUES. WHEN THE WEATHER IS COOL OUT FALL THROUGH SPRING, THE PROBLEM RARELY OCCURS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS THE INTERNAL SEALS OF THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN THEY GET TOO HOT THEY EXPAND AND ALLOW FLUID TO "BLOW BY" WHICH DECREASES PRESSURE IN THE VALVE BODY CAUSES THE TRANSMISSION TO DISENGAGE. I HAVE FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION EVERY 30,000 MILES AT THE DEALER SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. THIS IS NOT A ONE OFF PROBLEM. I HAVE TWO 2000 MAXIMA'S, BOTH WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE IS ALSO A CO-WORKER OF MINE WITH A 2001 MAXIMA WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THERE ARE INTERNAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRANSMISSION. I DO NOT EXPECT NISSAN TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, HOWEVER THEY MUST KNOW THEY ARE LOSING CUSTOMERS. THE FRAME IS ALMOST COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT ON MY 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH 158,000 MILES. MY MECHANIC HAD IT UP ON HIS LIFT LAST WEEK AND POINTED OUT THAT THE LEFT DRIVER SIDE PORTION HAD A BREAK IN IT AND WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. ONE MORE POT HOLE AND THE ENGINE/TRANNY WILL BE IN THE STREET. WILL NEVER BUY A NISSAN VEHICLE AGAIN.

MY MECHANIC RECENTLY TOLD ME THAT THE MAXIMA NEEDS ABOUT $2000 OF BODY WORK DUE TO RUSTED FLOOR BOARDS AND ENGINE MOUNT. THE MAXIMA WAS IMMACULATELY KEPT IN A GARAGE FOR MOST OF ITS LIFE SO I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS RUST PROBLEM SHOULD BE HAPPENING. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT NISSAN SHOULD ADDRESS AND RECTIFY.

I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE MECHANIC INFORMED US THAT THE SUB FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. THE FRONT MOTOR MOUNT IS ONLY PARTIALLY ATTACHED AS THE MAIN BEAM IS SEVERELY RUSTED. HE TOLD ME THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON - AND THE CAR IS RUNNING POORLY. THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH IT JERKING INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE REPAIR SHOP THAT THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS CAR FOR BAD ENGINE COILS AND HARNESSES. TOTAL COST TO REPAIR IS BETWEEN $3,000-4,000. ROUGH IDLE PROMPTED ME TO TAKE THE CAR INTO A MECHANIC. AFTER IT WAS HOOKED UP TO THE COMPUTER I WAS TOLD THE O2 SENSORS WERE TELLING MY COMPUTER TO RUN THE GAS LEAN AND THE COMPUTER WAS TELLING MY O2 SENSORS TO RUN LEANER. AT THAT TIME MY CAR HAD ONLY 52,000 MILES AND I KNOW THE O2 SENSORS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD FOR UP TO ABOUT 80,000. NOTING WAS DONE AND THE CARE CONTINUES TO HAVE THE ROUGH IDLE AS IF IT WANTS TO DIE. THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING AND THEN DIED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. HAD TO EXIT OFF THE ROAD FAST AS THE CAR COASTED DOWN TO PREVENT OTHER CARS FROM HITTING THE CAR. IN DANGER OF OTHER CARS RUNNING OVER CAR WHILE OUR CAR MALFUNCTION. TOOK CAR TO SHOP AND WAS TOLD A 2 DOLLAR O-RING ON THE AUTO CONTROL VALVE HAD ALLOWED AIR LEAKAGE AND THIS IN TURNED CAUSED FAILURE OF THE ECM ELECTRON CONTROL MODULE. BOTH AUTO CONTROL VALVE AND ECM NEEDS REPLACING WHERE THE CAR CAN BE SAFELY DRIVEN. THE FACT OF THIS FAILURE DID NOT BRING IN THE ENGINE SERVICE LIGHT TILL AFTER THE EVENT AND FACT IT WILL COST OVER $2000 DOLLARS TO REPAIR A CAR THAT IS NOT WORK MUCH MORE $3000 ARE JUST FACTS. NISSAN NEEDS TO AT LEAST SEND OUT TO THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT OWNS OF THIS MODEL AND MAKE COULD HAVE THIS CONDITION THAN CAN HAPPEN AND EXIST AND CAUSE ERRATIC BEHAVIOR OF THE CAR IF NOT CHECK BY NISSAN. I HAVE THE SAME ENGINE IGNITION COIL PROBLEM AS LISTED THROUGHOUT YOUR SITE AND THE INTERNET BY THOUSANDS OF OTHER 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA OWNERS. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, THE CAR IS BARELY RUNNING BECAUSE OF THESE FAULTY IGNITION COILS WHICH THE DEALER RECOMMEND I HAVE REPLACED FOR OVER $1000. NISSAN REFUSES TO ADDRESS THIS DEFECT WITH A RECALL. SOMETHING NEEDS TO HAPPEN. FIRST THEY TOLD IT WAS THE SPARK PLUGS WHICH I HAD REPLACED. ENGINE COILS AND OXYGEN SENSORS HAVE BEEN NEEDED TO BE BE REPLACED ON MANY OCCASIONS SINCE I'VE OWNED THIS VEHICLE. WHEN 2 OF THE COILS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE ENGINE RAN EXTREMELY ROUGH (FROM BOTH MISFIRES) CAUSING A HUGE REDUCTION IN ENGINE SPEED AND THE INABILITY TO PASS OR ACCELERATE SAFELY ONTO THE HIGHWAY. BOUGHT THE MAXIMA NEW AND AT 12000 MILES HAD TO HAVE THE ROTORS TURNED. THE DEALER AND NISSAN SAID IT WAS MY DRIVING HABITS. I PROMPTLY TOLD THEM THAT THIS IS THE FIRST CAR I HAD THIS DONE TO (OTHER THAN A USED 74 VEGA I HAD IN HIGH SCHOOL). NOW THE CAR IS AT 22,000 MILES (AND IS ONLY A LITTLE OVER 3 YEARS OLD) AND THE VIBRATION IS BACK. THE FIRST TIME THEY TURNED THE ROTORS IT COST ME $120 (BUT AFTER COMPLAINING TO NISSAN THEY GAVE ME A &100 SERVICE CREDIT). BUT I HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN AND THINK THAT IT IS CERTAINLY NOT MY DRIVING HABITS THAR ARE CAUSING THIS. THE CAR HAS A STRONG VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THE NOISE STARTED AS A MILD THUMPING FEEL IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. WE FIRST REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP IN WHICH WE PURCHASED THE CAR. THE REPORT WAS MADE IN JUNE 2001. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ROTORS WERE GLAZED AT 8000 MILES AND THAT A CHARGE OF $120 WAS REQUIRED. WE STRONGLY DISAGREED WITH THIS DIAGNOSIS. FOR THE MOST PART WE DROVE THE CAR LOCALLY BELOW 40 MPH. I HAVE A 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA. RECENTLY THE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN PILING ON. THE AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED WORKING IN THE SUMMER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. THE AIR CONDITIONER NEEDS A NEW PUMP AND THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT I WAS TOLD IS THE O2 SENSOR. TODAY IS 1/27/13 AND A WEEK AGO MY POWER STEERING BELT SHREDDED. IT CAUSED THE CAR TO STALL TEMPORARILY BUT I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR TO MY LOCAL GARAGE TO BE FIXED. THE MECHANICS SAID IT WAS NOT ONLY THE POWER STEERING BELT BUT THE ALTERNATOR BELT AND THE PUMPS AS WELL. THE PROBLEM WAS TAKEN CARE OF AND I PICKED THE CAR UP. BEFORE I PULLED OUT I TRIED THE HEAT AND DEFROST BUT THEY WOULD NOT WORK NOW. THE HEAT AND DEFROST HAD BEEN ACTING STRANGE AND SMELLED AS IF BURNING WAS HAPPENING. THE HEAT WOULD BE HARD TO TURN OFF AT TIMES. THE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF HEAT WERE ALL THE SAME MOST TIME. THE MECHANICS LOOKED AT IT LATER AND SAID THE CAR NEEDS A O2 SENSOR AND THE WHOLE CLIMATE CONTROL MECHANISM. THE MECHANISM ON MY CAR HAD MELTED WIRES. I HAVE BEEN NOTICING A LOT OF WEIRD ELECTRICAL QUIRKS OUTSIDE OF THEE HEAT. I HAVE NOTICED A LOT OF DECAY FOR A CAR USED EVERYDAY. THE PROBLEMS THAT PROMPTED ME TO LOOK ONLINE ABOUT THESE ISSUES ARE EXACTLY THE SAME ISSUES PEOPLE ARE HAVING WITH THIS VEHICLE AT THE SAME MILEAGE. O2 SENSOR, ELECTRICAL, DECAY, ETC.. I CHECKED MY OIL AND TRANSMISSION FLUID ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AFTER BUYING THE CAR AND RIGHT WHEN I SHUT THE HOOD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT POPPED ON AND STAYED ON OBVIOUSLY VERY TEMPERAMENTAL. ABOUT A WEEK LATER WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT THE ENGINE FELT A LITTLE WEIRD THEN WHEN I STARTED DRIVING RIGHT AWAY THE CAR LOST POWER SHUT DOWN AND ALL THE LIGHT POPPED ON I HAD MY 2 YEAR OLD AND 3 YEAR OLD AND FIANCE IN THE CAR AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I ALMOST GOT HIT TRYING TO STEER IT OUT OF TRAFFIC INTO A MCDONALD'S. CALLED THE DEALER AND HE JUST LEFT US SITTING THERE IN THE HEAT. CALLED THE TOW TRUCK AND I WAS TRYING TO RESTART THE CAR BUT IT WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT STAY ON. SO I WAIT AND WAIT AND DECIDE TO TRY STARTING IT LIKE 20 MINUTES LATER AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD AND IT STARTS RIGHT UP AS THE TOW TRUCK IS PULLING UP BUT HE CHARGED ME ANYWAY EVEN THOUGH I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT FROM THERE TO THE DEALERS ON MY OWN THE DEALERS MECHANIC KEPT TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THIS THING AND KEPT SAYING OH ITS FIXED NOW ABOUT 4 DIFFERENT TIMES...FIRST HE SAID IT WAS THE COIL PACK,THEN HE SAID IT WAS THE MAF MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR,THEN THEY SAID BAD GAS WAS PUT IN IT BY THEM AND THEY CLEANED THE GAS RAIL,THEN FINALLY THEY LISTENED TO ME AND REPLACED THE ISC (IDLE SPEED CONTROL) MOTOR NOW IT STARTED WORKING AND NOT DYING ON ME WHEN I SLOW DOWN OR STOP AT RED LIGHTS BECAUSE THEY GAVE IT BACK TO ME LIKE THREE TIMES SAYING IT WAS FIXED AND IT WASN'T BUT NOW WHEN I'M IN THE PARK POSITION WITH THE CAR RUNNING WITHIN ABOUT 20-30 SECONDS THE RPM DROPS AND THE CAR LIGHTS UP AND DIES BUT AT LEAST IT STARTS RIGHT BACK UP AND DRIVES NOT LIKE BEFORE BUT THIS IS STILL A PROBLEM. LOOK ON IDENTIFIX WEBSITE AND YOU WILL SEE THAT 4 COMPONENTS NEED TO BE RECALLED. THE MAF,IGNITION COILS,ISC,AND MOST EXPENSIVE OF ALL THE ECM WHICH IT SAYS IS USALLY DAMAGED ONCE THE ISC IS DONE FOR.

WE WERE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT AND HAD ABOUT 5 FEET TO GO BEFORE THE CAR WAS PARKED. I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE CAR SLOWED DOWN FURTHER. SUDDENLY THE CAR ENGINE REVVED AND THE CAR TOOK OFF. I PRESSED HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, NOT THE GAS PEDAL, BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T STOP. I TURNED THE WHEEL TO AVOID HITTING THE BUILDING IN FRONT OF ME, BUT HIT THE ADJACENT RESTAURANT INSTEAD. THE CAR CRASHED INTO THE RESTAURANT WALL AND SENT A LARGE REFRIGERATOR CRASHING TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM. FORTUNATELY, NO RESTAURANT PERSONNEL WERE IN THE PATH OF THE REFRIGERATOR AT THE TIME. SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE RESTAURANT AND TO THE CAR. MY HUSBAND WHO HAD ALREADY TAKEN OFF HIS SEAT BELT, AS WE WERE NEARLY STOPPED, HIT THE WINDSHIELD WITH HIS HEAD. HE IS IN THE HOSPITAL. REMAN TRANS. 3RD OCCURRENCE AT 45K, REPLACED TRANS W/ OEM UNDER WARRANTY. DENIED TRADE. TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT HIGH TEMP FOR LONG DRIVES (2 HR INCLINE) AND HAD TO WAIT FOR THE TRANS TO COOL BEFORE IT DROVE AGAIN, ONE OCCURRENCE AT 55K, OIL OK. STILL INTERMITTENT POWER LOSS/SLIPPAGE. DEALERSHIP UNABLE TO RECREATE PROBLEM. DENIED TRADE. IGNITION COILS: KNOCKING, BAD GAS MILEAGE, AND POWER LOSS DUE TO IGNITION COIL FAILURE AT 70K. WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO REPLACE ALL COILS RATHER THAN THE ONE THAT WAS DAMAGED AND ALL SPARK PLUGS. ALTERNATOR WENT OUT AFTER REPAIR. REPLACED ALL COILS, PLUGS AND ALTERNATOR ($1500). STILL HAVE POWER LOSS & OCCASIONAL KNOCKING. NO HELP FROM NISSAN. DENIED TRADE. SUSPENSION: CONSTANT KNOCKING OF TIRE AREA AT 60K. ALL 4 HUBS DAMAGED AND REPLACED AT 65K. ALL 4 STRUTS LEAKING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED ALSO AT 65K. NO HELP FROM NISSAN. NISSAN QUOTE $3000. OPTED OUTSIDE REPAIR FOR $1000, NO MORE PROBLEMS. EMISSIONS: MORE LOSS OF POWER (3000RPM+) AND BAD GAS MILEAGE. PROBABLY LINKED TO IGNITION COIL PROBLEM. PROBLEM HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED TO 1 OF 4 CATALYTIC CONVERTER SENSOR FAILURES. 130K. NO HELP FROM NISSAN. $3000+. FAN: LOUD NOISE WHEN A/C IS ON. ONE FAN DEFECTIVE AT 80K. FAN BLADE RUBBING ON METAL FRAME. REPLACED FAN $200. NO HELP FROM NISSAN. CONCLUSION: I WANTED TO HAVE MY VEHICLE CONSIDERED A LEMON AND TRADED. I HAD NO COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN OR THE MAXIMA LINE. I ONLY HAD A PROBLEM WITH JUST MY CAR. I DRIVE A 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA THAT CURRENTLY HAS 48000 MILES ON IT. I DEVELOPED AN ENGINE PING AT 45000 MILES AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR SEVICE. THEY REPLACED ALL 6 COIL PACKS AND AIR SOMETHING OR OTHER AT A COST OF $1300.00. I HAVE DRIVEN IT 5000 MORE MILES AND I ONCE AGAIN HAVE AN ENGINE PING. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER A SECOND TIME TO WHICH THEY TOLD ME I WAS A QUART LOW ON OIL AND THAT WOULD CAUSE A PING. THEY DID AN OIL & FILTER CHANGE. I WAS PLEASED AS I DROVE AWAY AND HEARD NO ENGINE PING, HOWEVER ABOUT 30 MILES LATER IT CAME BACK. THEIR THEORY OF BEING 1 QUART LOW ON OIL IS NOT CORRECT. I DECIDED TO RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM ON THE NET, AND SEE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSAN'S. AT ABOUT 75,000 MILES, ENGINE WOULD TAKE A LITTLE LONGER TO START ESPECIALLY IN RAINY WEATHER. IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS TAKING LONGER FOR FUEL TO GET TO ENGINE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT 80,000 MILES. CODE INDICATED BAD CATALYTIC CONVERTOR. MECHANIC RESET AND A FEW THOUSAND MILES LATER IT CAME ON AGAIN. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT BOTH OXYGEN SENSORS WERE DEFECTIVE AND THEY HAD TO BE REPLACED TO PASS SMOG CHECK FOR $460 ALSO, AT ABOUT 80,000 MILES, CAR HAD INTERMITANT ACCELERATION PROBLEMS WHICH BECAME MORE PROBLEMATIC IN RAINY WEATHER. I WOULD FLOOR ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. MECHANIC PRESSURE TESTED FUEL PUMP AND FOUND IT TOO LOW AND REPLACED FUEL PUMP FOR $478. THIS SOLVED PROBLEM FOR A FEW MONTHS AND IT BEGAN HAPPENING AGAIN. THEN, ONE DAY I TRIED TO BACK OUT OF MY GARAGE AND IT WOULDN'T GO IN REVERSE WHEN I SHIFTED IT. I PUSHED MY CAR OUT OF GARAGE AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO GO IN DRIVE. WHILE DRIVING TO MECHANIC'S, I PUT CAR IN CRUISE CONTROL AND IT WOULD LOSE POWER INTERMITANTLY TRYING TO MAINTAIN THE SET SPEED. I TOOK IT OUT OF CRUISE CONTROL AND FLOORED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE SAME PREVIOUS PROBLEM OCCURRED. IT REVED ENGINE BUT NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. WHEN I GOT TO MECHANIC, IT WOULD GO IN REVERSE. HE DETERMINED THAT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION THAT DIDN'T GIVE ENOUGH CLUTCH PRESSURE UNTIL IT WAS DRIVEN FOR A WHILE. IT WAS A FAILING TRANSMISSION THAT CAUSED THIS AND THE INABILITY TO ACCELERATE. IT WOULD COST OVER $3,000 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. I HAD TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE FRONT AND REAR STRUTS, FRONT TIE ROD GREASE BOOT, COMPRESS COIL SPRING, TIE ROD OUTER END AT 134,000 MILES FOR $1100. AT 137,000 MILES, THE EGR VALVE & GASKET FELL OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE EGR VALVE HOUSING WAS BROKEN AND IT WAS REPLACED FOR $340. DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF MONEY SPENT ON THIS VEHICLE, I CANNOT AFFORD $3000 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND WILL BE SELLING MY FIRST AND LAST NISSAN VEHICLE EVER.

DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MAXIMA GLE THAT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE ON THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT. THE CONTACT PURCHASED A NEW BULB FOR THE LIGHT. UPON INSTALLATION OF THE NEW LIGHT BULB IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE BULBS PLUG WAS FUSED AND BURNED IN THAT PARTICULAR HEADLIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO NOTED THE BULB COULD NOT BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE BULB WERE CONNECTED TO AN ELECTRICAL WIRING HARNESS THAT WAS CONNECTED TO LIGHTING WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE COST. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED AT THIS POINT. *AK UPDATED 11/29/2005. THE CONSUMER IS CONCERNED THAT THIS IS A POTENTIAL FIRE/SAFETY HAZARD. *NM

I PURCHASED A USED 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA THAT HAD 28,000 MILES ON IT ALMOST 3 YEARS AGO. I HAVE ONLY PUT 6,000 MILES ON THE CAR, BUT HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEING ON ALMOST CONTINUOUSLY SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO MY REGULAR MECHANIC WHEN IT HAD TO PASS SMOG INSPECTION. HE TEMPORARILY FIXED THE ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEM, BUT SOON AS I ACCELERATED OVER 50 MILES PER HOUR, THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES, WHICH HAD TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED TWICE, THE IGNITION (CAR WOULDN'T START), AND, A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR WHEN DOWNSHIFTING (ENGINE SEIZES UP VIOLENTLY). THERE IS ALSO A SUSPENSION PROBLEM, AS CAR MAKES LOUD NOISE EVERY TIME I HAVE TO GO OVER SPEED BUMPS. MY SON IS READY TO GET HIS DRIVER'S LICENSE, AND I WILL HAVE TO GET RID OF THIS CAR AT A LOSS, AS I DO NOT FEEL THE CAR IS SAFE FOR HIM TO DRIVE. *JB

THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT COMES ON OFTEN. THE DEALER HAS REPROGRAMMED THE ECM UNDER THE EMISSIONS WARRANTY, BUT THE O2 SENSOR WAS BAD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 58K MILES AT MY EXPENSE (OVER $400).

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON WHILE ON A TRIP. THE CODES INDICATED OXYGEN SENSORS ON THE FRONT AND REAR BANKS. THE CAR HAS 45,000 MILES ON IT AND THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IT HAS NEEDED OXYGEN SENSORS REPLACED, EACH TIME AT APPROXIMATELY 15,000 MILES. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART, ALSO EACH TIME THEY REFLASH THE ECM "SO IT DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN", THIS IS DEFECTIVE PARTS AND NISSAN SHOULD EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THEM. AT $650 FOR THE REPAIR, IT IS A VERY EXPENSIVE MAINTENANCE ITEM. *AK

I OWN A 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA. SINCE THE PURCHASE IN 2000 WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRICAL. BLOWN FUSES, IGNITION COILS REPLACED, ETC. WHEN MY POWER WINDOWS STOPPED WORKING, THEN MY DOOR LOCKS, THEN MY LIGHTS I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO AN INDEPENDANT MECHANIC. UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT THERE ARE 3 MOTORS, ALL WITH WIRING. THE WIRING WAS RUN IN SUCH A WAY THAT WIRES HAD BEEN RUBBED & PRESSED AGAINST METAL PARTSF OF THE VEHICLE, LEAVING BARE WIRES EXPOSED. SO, WHEN YOU WOULD SIT ON THE SEAT THE WIRES WOULD TOUCH METAL AND SHORT OUT. I FEEL FORTUNATE THAT I WAS NOT A VICTIM OF A FIRE BENEATH THE SEAT WHICH I BELIEVE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE ULTIMATE OUTCOME. THIS ACCIDENT HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO BE EXPLAINED BY POLICE OR ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTIONIST. NO WITNESSES HAVE COME FORWARD. ONE CAR ACCIDENT. CAR LEFT INTERSTATE AND CLIPPED A POLE MIDWAY DOWN THE DRIVER'S SIDE..BETWEEN THE FRONT AND BACK SEATS. THE CAR RIPPED INTO TWO PIECES THAT WERE 150FT APART WHEN THEY STOPPED. WE ARE CURRENTLY WAITING FOR A # 6 COIL FOR OUR 2000 MAXIMA, THIS PART IS ON BACK ORDER FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND THERE ARE NO AVAILABLE PARTS IN THE U.S. SINCE THIS PART IS ON HOLD FOR OTHER CUSTOMERS AT OTHER DEALERSHIPS IN THE AREA, IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS PART IS FAILING ON A LOT OF NEW CARS(UNDER THREE YEARS OLD) THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED. WE'VE ALSO EXPERIENCED A FAILURE WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND SINCE OUR CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT THE TIME, WE HAD IT FIXED AT THE MANUFACTURERS EXPENSE.
