FEW DAYS AGO THE AIR BAG RED SYMBOL START BLINKING. THEN, I TURN OFF THE CAR AND TRY TO RE-START THE ENGINE BUT DOESN'T START ENGINE ANYMORE. CAR IS UNUSABLE. THANKS TO GOD! ITS JUST HAPPENED CLOSE TO MY HOUSE. CAR WAS LEFT AT THE FRONT OF MY HOME.

DRIVING TO WORK ON THE FREEWAY AND THE CAR BUCKED AND RANDOMLY ACCELERATED AND IDLED HIGH. LATER FOUND OUT THAT THE IAC VALVE HAD ANTIFREEZE THAT LEAKED THROUGH A GASKET CAUSING IT TO SHORT OUT. SHORTLY AFTER ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THE VALVE SHORTING OUT ($200 PART) CAUSE THE ECM TO SHORT OUT. AFTER LABOR AND PARTS THIS TURNS A $200 REPAIR INTO OVER A $2000 REPAIR AND CAUSES FOR UNSAFE DRIVING DUE TO THE ERRATIC IDLE AND SURGING AT THE TIME WHEN THE VALVE SHORTS OUT. *TR

MY CAR SEEMED TO NOT BE GETTING ENOUGH GAS AND NUMEROUS LIGHTS INCLUDING CHECK ENGINE ARE ON. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 NISSAN MAXIMA SE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 65 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AS THE ENGINE STARTED TO SMOKE. THE VEHICLE COASTED TO A COMPLETE STOP BUT WAS RESTARTED LATER AND THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A RECURRING ISSUE AND THE DEALER HAD PREVIOUSLY MADE REPAIRS TO THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE AND THE WIRING FOR THE IDLE CONTROL VALVE, TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.

2001 NISSAN MAXIMA EXHIBITING DIFFICULTY STARTING 3-4 TIMES, THEN DYING AT IDLE. THEN IT WOULD START, BUT DIE WHEN PUT IN GEAR. WE HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER - THEY SAY "BAD ENGINE MOUNTS" CAUSED THE WIRING HARNESS TO SHORT OUT, DESTROYING IT, THE ECM, AND THE IAC VALVE. THEY QUOTE 3875 TO REPAIR, AND SAY THAT SOMETIMES WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE AIR FUEL METER NEEDS REPLACING TOO. FROM READING OTHER REPORTS, I DOUBT THE "BAD ENGINE MOUNTS" STORY. THIS SOUNDS LIKE AN ISSUE THAT HAS HAPPENED IDENTICALLY ON THIS MAKE/MODEL YEAR. WE ALSO HAVE UNEXPLAINED ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS, THAT CAME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY A FEW MONTHS AGO ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THEY REPLACED THE AIR FUEL METER WHICH FIXED THE ENGINE LIGHT. I SUSPECT THE HARNESS WAS DETERIORATED THEN, CAUSED THE AFM TO FAIL AND THE PHONY WARNING LIGHTS, AND NOW IT HAS DETERIORATED FURTHER. CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED, SERVICED REGULARLY, DEALER SAID NOTHING ABOUT ENGINE MOUNTS WHEN IN FOR THE AFM REPLACEMENT A FEW MONTHS AGO. WE DID NOT HAVE A FIRE, AND WHEN THE CAR DIED IN TRAFFIC WE GOT THE POLICE THERE QUICKLY TO CONTROL TRAFFIC, BUT ONLY AFTER SEVERAL NEAR REAR-END COLLISIONS. WE OWN A 2001 MAXIMA, PURCHASED NEW, AND LIKE LOTS OF OTHER PEOPLE ON THIS WEB SITE, HAVE EXPERIENCED ROTOR PROBLEMS. WE HAVE HAD THEM RESURFACED AND REPLACED AT LEAST 4 TIMES SINCE WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR. THE CAR ONLY HAS 64,000 MILES ON IT, NOT DRIVEN ON DIRT ROADS, I DO NOT JAM ON THE BRAKES, OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT, AND WE HAVE OWNED OTHER VEHICLES AND NEVER HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THEM. WE ALSO OWN A 1999 CHEVROLET PICKUP WITH MORE MILES ON IT, AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM ON IT. NISSAN SAYS, LIKE IT TELLS EVERYONE ELSE, THAT IT IS THE DRIVER'S HABITS WHICH IS UNTRUE, AND THEY JUST DO NOT WANT TO TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT. WE ARE TIRED OF HAVING TO FIX THESE BRAKES, AND SPEND UNNECESSARY MONEY EVERY 12,000-15,000 MILES. I HAVE EXPERIENCED REPEATED PROBLEMS ON AT LEAST 6 OCCASIONS SINCE I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR WITH THE ROTORS. EVERYTIME I HAVE THIS FIXED THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY MY DRIVING HABITS WHICH I DID NOT AGREE WITH SEEING AS HOW I HAVE OWNED 3 CARS PRIOR AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED, 3 OXYGEN SENSORS REPLACED, AND 2 WHEEL SENSORS. THESE OCCURRENCES HAVE SPANNED OVER 18 MONTHS AND HAVE COST LOTS OF MONEY! THE CALIPERS HAVE LOCKED, AND THE CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE IN THE WHEEL WELL, ALSO. I HAVE TRIED TO GET ASSISTANCE FROM THE DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM, NO ASSISTANCE FROM THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER IN RALEIGH, AND LAST, BUT NOT LEAST - NISSAN THEMSELVES - THEY EVEN LIED TO ME ON THE PHONE AND TOLD ME THAT IT WAS SENT BACK TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER, WHO HAD THE RIGHT TO COVER THE COSTS, BUT WAS DENYING THE CHARGE. THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER DISPUTED THIS AND IT LEFT ME WITH NOTHING BUT FRUSTRATION AND WITH A LEMON OF A CAR! I PURCHASED THIS CAR WITH LESS THAN 40000 MILES AND CHECKED THE VIN THROUGH CARFAX. I ALSO CHECKED WHAT CONSUMER REPORTS SAID ABOUT THE MAKE AND MODEL. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD PULSATE WHEN SLOWING DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY TO PAY A TOLL, MAKING THE CAR DIFFICULT TO STEER. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A NISSAN DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE ROTORS WERE WARPED. THE PIN AT THE END OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION TRANSVERSE LINK (LOWER CONTROL ARM) BROKE OFF WHERE IT IS MOUNTED TO THE FRAME. THIS IS CAUSING A KNOCKING SOUND AND ABNORMAL STEERING. THIS IS RESULTING IN DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE. THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL FELL OFF. I CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING RECALL NOTICE 02V146000. I'VE PUT IT BACK IN DRIVE AN PULLED OUT BACK ON THE ROAD. LITTLE MORE DOWN THE ROAD IT WAS DOING THE SAME THING SO I CALLED THE PLACE I GOT THE CAR FROM AND WAS TOLD TO CALL TOMORROW AN SETUP A APPOINTMENT TO CHECK OUT THE CAR. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND SHIFTED GEARS. THE INCIDENT FELT AS IF THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REAR-ENDED. THE RPMS INCREASED TO 3,000 AND THEN DECREASED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MECHANIC FURTHER STATED THAT A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 172,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 160,000.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2001 MAXIMA SE, WHEN I ACCELERATE TO PASS, THE CAR STALLS MOMENTARILY THEN THE ENGINE REVS ALMOST TO REDLINE AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS. I TOOK THE CAR TO BAKER JACKSON NISSAN IN HOUSTON AND THEY SAID THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THEY REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. MY NISSAN MAXIMA (2001) BEGAN TO HARD TIME SHIFT BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR AT APPROX. 55,000 MILES. WHEN I REPORTED IT TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER TOOK LOOKING AT IT AND DID A DRIVING TEST AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM SHIFT FROM FIRST GEAR TO SECOND GEAR. AT THE 60,000 IT GOT WORSE AND WORSE SHIFT FROM FIRST GEAR TO SECOND GEAR. MOST OF THE TIME IT WOULDN'T SWITCH TO SECOND GEAR. NOW I AM HEARING THAT NISSAN HAD A RECALL. NISSAN RELEASED A BULLETIN TO ITS DEALERS, EXPLAINING THAT THERE WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM IN THE MAXIMA 2000 TO 2003 (AND OTHER MODELS AS WELL). THE BULLETIN INSTRUCTS THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY, BUT NOT THE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS RECALL. I WOULD LIKE TO GET MY CAR FIXES. I ALSO FOUND ANY PROBLEM THAT I AM KEEP GETTING FROM MY NISSAN EVERY 3,000 A LIGHT SAY CHECK ENGINE.. I TOOK THE CARS TO HAVE CHECK TWICE AND THERE TELL ME IT WAS A SOFTWARE UPGRADE. *NM

MY NISSAN MAXIMA (2001) BEGAN TO HARD SHIFT BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR AT APPROX. 55,000 MILES. WHEN I REPORTED IT TO THE DEALER (TIM DAHLE NISSAN IN SANDY, UT) AT THE 60,000 MAINTENANCE SERVICE, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THE SHIFTING PROBLEM GOT STEADILY WORSE. THE CAR BEGAN DOING IT RANDOMLY AT ANY GEAR. AT 74,000 MILES I FINALLY HAD TIME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AGAIN. THIS TIME THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM (AFTER I MADE THEM TEST DRIVE THE CAR AGAIN) AND REPLACED THE CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY IN THE TRANSMISSION. I PICKED UP THE CAR AND DROVE OFF THE DEALER'S LOT AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY HARD SHIFTED FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. THREE WEEKS LATER I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN. THE DEALER ASSURED ME THAT THIS WAS THE WAY THE TRANSMISSION WAS SUPPOSED TO WORK. THE BULLETIN INSTRUCTS THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY, BUT NOT THE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. I AM LEFT WITH A CAR THAT SHIFTS HARD BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND, RESULTING IN A "CLUNK" SOUND. I BOUGHT A 2001 NISSAN MAXIMA BRAND NEW IN JUNE 2001. ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING IN 2004 I EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND THE ENGINE RACING. IT DID STOP AFTER A FEW SECONDS BUT I TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO MY NEIGHBORHOOD CAR MECHANIC. HE COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT FOUND A DEFECTIVE AIR POLLUTION PART AND REPLACED IT. THE NEXT DAY, WHILE WAITING TO TAKE A LEFT TURN AT AN INTERSECTION, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY RACED AGAIN AND WITH ME PRACTICALLY STANDING ON THE BRAKE WE SLID ACROSS THE INTERSECTION HEADED TOWARDS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. LUCKILY PEOPLE SLOWED ENOUGH FOR ME TO SLIDE ACROSS THE INTERSECTION WITH RUBBER BURNING, ENGINE WHINING, ETC. A FEW SECONDS LATER IT STOPPED. I WAS ONLY ABOUT A MILE FROM THE DEALER THAT I HAD PURCHASED IT FROM SO I IMMEDIATELY DROVE THERE AND PULLED INTO THE SERVICE DEPT. AREA. I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDN'T LOOK AT IT TODAY BUT COME BACK TOMMORROW. I SAID THAT I WASN'T ABOUT TO KEEP DRIVING IT WITH THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAID THAT I COULD PARK IT IN THEIR LOT AND THEY WILL LOOK AT IT TOMMORROW. WHEN TURNING ON THE VEHICLE, THE OVERDRIVE LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND FLASHES INTERMITTENTLY. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY TRAVEL 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED FOR THE SPEED TO OPERATE NORMALLY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 150,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

MY CAR IS A 2001 MAXIMA IT CAME WITH TOYO TIRES FROM THE FACTORY. I GOT A FLAT AND WENT TO HAVE IT REPAIRED THEY WOULDNT FIX IT BECAUSE THE TIRE AND THE OTHER TIRES ON THE CAR ARE DRY ROTTED. AFTER HEARING A RATTLE IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR, I FOUND THAT THE FRAME SUPPORT UNDER THE RADIATOR WAS SEVERELY RUSTED AND FULL OF LARGE HOLES FOR ABOUT 8 INCHES AT THE CENTER OF THE BEAM. THIS POINT IN THE BEAM IS WHERE THE ENGINE SUPPORT BEAM AND FRONT HOOD LATCH SUPPORT ARE BOLTED. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A LOCAL BODY SHOP WHICH TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD REPAIRED 'NUMEROUS' NISSAN MAXIMA'S WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. AS THE RUSTED AREA SUPPORTS THE ENGINE AND HOOD LATCH, IT APPEARS THAT IT SEVERELY COMPROMISES THE INTEGRITY OF THE FRONT OF THE CAR, BOTH FROM AN ENGINE SUPPORT PERSPECTIVE AND IN THE EVENT OF A FRONTAL COLLISION. THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN IN THE NORTHEAST WHERE SALT IS USED IN THE WINTER, BUT THE REST OF THE UNDERBODY HAS NO SIGNIFICANT RUST LIKE WHAT IS FOUND ON THIS BEAM. IN SEARCHING YOUR DATABASE, I FOUND NO DEFECT INVESTIGATIONS OR SAFETY RECALLS, BUT DID SEE TWO OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. AT THE VERY LEAST, THE PUBLIC SHOULD BE NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS, AS IT APPEARS TO BE MUCH MORE WIDESPREAD THAN THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN. MY 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER WAS PURCHASED 3 YEARS AGO. A BOSE 6-CD PLAYER CAME INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE. THE 6-CD PLAYER STOPPED WORKING, AND DISPLAYS AN ERROR MESSAGE, "ERR 2". SHE TOLD ME NO THEN WENT ON TO TELL ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO BRING IT IN ON 59999K AND IT WOULD HAD BEEN. I HAD TAKEN IT IN PRIOR TO THE 60K TO WHICH THE DEALER DID NOTHING OR NOTED NOTHING. THEN AFTER FINDING THE TRANS FLUID LEAK I TOOK IT BACK IN WHICH WAS ABOUT 3 DAYS LATER. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK IN IT WAS OVER THE 60K. NOW AFTER THE DEALER QUOTED ME 4 DIFFERENT PRICES RANGING FROM 300-1500 DOLLARS ON REPAIRING THE EXACT SAME THING (EXHAUST MANIFOLD). Recently bought vehicle, it's in great condition other than there is noticeable problems with the front and rear steering and suspension, missing airbags with no sign of being wrecked, windows and window buttons don't work as well as power seat, and a awful gas smell and fume. I'M NOT EVEN SURE IF THEY REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG OR NOT BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP WAS ABOUT TO CLOSE WHEN THEY BEGAN TO WORK ON MY VEHICLE. THE LOWER RADIATOR SUPPORT BEAM RUSTED OUT CAUSING THE ENGINE SUPPORT TO BRAKE FREE FROM THE BEAM. NOW THE ENTIRE LOWER SUPPORT BEAM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT AN EXTREMELY HIGH COST OF LABOR AND PARTS. IMMORAL CAR COMPANY! NISSAN, THE NEXT BIG BAILOUT. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START MY VEHICLE, THE KEY SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. I NOTIFIED MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER INDICATED THERE WAS A FAILURE OF THE SECURITY SYSTEM INVOLVING THE STEERING LOCK UNIT. HE ALSO ADVISED THE NISSAN CORP. WE OWN A 2001 NISSAN MAXIMA, WHICH WE PURCHASED NEW FROM A NISSAN DEALER. IT HAS, ON 3 OCCASIONS, EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH "SURGING"/HIGH REVVING.*DT THE CAUSE IN EVERY CASE HAS BEEN A PART KNOWN AS AN "IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE" (IACV), WHICH FAILS AND IN DOING SO, CAUSES THE "ECM" (THE "ENGINE COMPUTER") TO FAIL. WE HAVE DISCOVERED THAT HITACHI IS THE SOLE SOURCE FOR THE IACV, WHETHER THE PART IS OBTAINED FROM A NISSAN DEALER OR ANY OTHER SOURCE UNDER ANY OTHER BRAND. THIS ISSUE IS APPARENTLY A PARTICULARLY WELL-KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL SERIES OF VEHICLE, BOTH NISSAN AND INFINITI. THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE HAD THIS ISSUE, IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND WAS SUPPOSEDLY REPAIRED BY NISSAN. HOWEVER, THE SAME ISSUE HAS RECURRED ON 2 SUBSEQUENT OCCASIONS, AND BOTH TIMES NISSAN HAS WHOLLY FAILED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. THEN, ON OCT. 20, 2008, 8 MONTHS LATER WITH THE MILEAGE JUST UNDER 60,000 MILES, THE SAME THING HAPPENED BUT IT WAS PRECEDED BY A SMELL OF BURNING RUBBER. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ($2000 PARTS AND LABOR) AND THE IAC VALVE AND THE ECM AGAIN NEEDED TO REPLACED (ANOTHER $1700). AT FIRST, THE DEALER SAID THAT THE IAC VALVE AND ECM WERE COVERED UNDER THE NEW PARTS WARRANTY, BUT THEN I WAS TOLD THAT IF IT WAS THE ENGINE HARNESS THAT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FAILURE OF THE IAC VALVE AND THE ECM, THEY WERE NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND I'D HAVE TO PAY THE TOTAL BILL OF $3700! I STARTED A CASE FILE WITH NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND WAS TOLD BY A REGIONAL SPECIALIST THAT NISSAN COULD DO NOTHING FOR ME SINCE THE PARTS WERE NOT UNDER WARRANTY. FROM THE INTERNET (AND NOT FROM THE DEALERSHIP), I LEARNED THAT THE ECM IS COVERED UNDER THE EPA SPECIFIED MAJOR EMISSION CONTROL COMPONENTS WARRANTY FOR 8 YEARS/80,000 MILES BUT NISSAN HAS DECLINED MY CLAIM, SAYING THAT THE IAC VALVE CAUSED THE FAILURE OF THE ECM THAT FIRST TIME IN FEB. 2008, SO THE ECM IS NOT COVERED BY THAT WARRANTY. THERE IS NO LANGUAGE IN THE EPA WARRANTY THAT STATES THAT AS AN EXCLUSION AND THERE IS NO LANGUAGE IN NISSAN'S OWN NEW PARTS WARRANTY THAT STATES THAT AS AN EXCLUSION (I.E., A NEW PART IS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY IF ITS FAILURE IS CAUSED BY ANOTHER NON-WARRANTED PART). WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND DECELERATING THE CAR BEGAN TO SLIGHTLY BUCK WHEN THE TRANSMISSION TRIED TO DOWN SHIFT. AFTER APPROXIMATELY ONE TO TWO MINUTES I SMELLED AN ELECTRICAL BURN. WHEN I CAME TO A STOP AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK THE ENGINE RACED TO APPROXIMATELY 1600 TO 1900 RPMS AT IDLE. THE OBD-II INDICATED CODES OF P0505: IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE AND P0420: THREE WAY CATALYST FUNCTION. MY LOCAL MECHANIC INSPECTED THE CAR AND REPLACED THE FAULTY IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. HE CONTACTED THE LOCAL NISSAN SERVICE SHOP, AND THEY INFORMED HIM THAT IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE FAILED AND SHORTED THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE, ECM. THIS SEEMED TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM THE DEALER NOTED, AND CURRENTLY HAD ANOTHER 2001 MAXIMA IN THE SHOP THAT WAS EXHIBITING THE SAME FAILURES. THE DEALER INSPECTED MY CAR AND REPORTED THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE FAILED AND SHORTED THE ECM. THE FAILURE OF THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE SHOULD NOT SHORT THE ECM. THIS IS A DESIGN FAILURE AND SHOULD NOT BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CAR OWNER. THE ECM IS A $915 PART PLUS LABOR. THE ECM WAS REPLACED. THIS IS SIMILAR TO ODI ID NUMBERS: 10179328 AND 10179390. *AK

I BELIEVE THE RIGHT FRONT STRUT I PURCHASED FOR MY 2001 NISSAN MAXIMA IS BEING INCORRECTLY MANUFACTURED BY KYB AMERICA, LLC (SUBSIDIARY OF KAYABA INDUSTRY COMPANIES). PROPER INSTALLATION OF THE ABS LINE AND THE MAIN BRAKE LINE CAN NOT BE ACHIEVED DUE TO REASONS DOCUMENTED IN THE EXCERPT OF CORRESPONDENCE BETWEEN MYSELF TO KYB AMERICA BELOW. THIS MONTH I HAVE BEGUN TO NOTICE SOME DANGEROUS WEARING ON MY BRAKE LINE CAUSED BY IMPROPER MANUFACTURING/INSTALLATION. KYB HAS ONLY RESPONDED TO MY INITIAL FORM FILLED OUT ONLINE WITH A GENERIC AUTO RESPONDER EMAIL LISTING THEIR CONTACT INFORMATION. "THE REAR ABS SENSOR MOUNT IS THE SAME AS THE NISSAN STRUT BUT THE FRONT SENSOR MOUNT HAS A MOUNT THAT OPENS FACING DOWN. THIS FORCES THE ABS SENSOR TO TAKE A SHARP TURN DOWN IN ORDER TO GET TO THE OPENING OF THE KYB MOUNT. I THINK I MENTIONED THAT MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON BUT IT IS NOW OFF. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME EVEN THOUGH I'M FAIRLY SURE THE ABS SYSTEM IS FINE. LEASED 2001 MAXIMA ANNIVERSARY EDITION. COMING OFF LEASE 11/28/03. NISSAN SENDS MAN TO INSPECT VEHICLE. MAN SAYS LIP OF THREE WHEELS ARE SCRATCHED (THEY ARE) AND THAT WE MUST REPLACE THEM AT A COST OF $559.00 PER WHEEL AS EXCESSIVE WEAR AND TEAR ON VEHICLE. ANYONE WHO KNOWS THE MAXIMA SE KNOWS NISSAN ENGINEERS DESIGNED IT LOW TO THE GROUND AND THAT AT RECOMMENDED INFLATION OF TIRES THE WHEELS OF THE MAXIMA ARE ALWAYS LOWER THAN ANY CURB IN THE METROPOLITAN AREA OF NEW YORK. IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE A MAXIMA SE AS DESIGNED AND NOT HAVE WHEELS STRIKE THE CURB OVER THE COURSE OF A 3 YEAR LEASE. OUR FAMILY HAD BEEN A LOYAL NISSAN CUSTOMER SINCE OUR FIRST MAXIMA IN 1990. I BELIEVE WE HAVE PURCHASED OR LEASED 5 MAXIMAS, I KNOW WE PURCHASED 2 SENTRAS AND LEASED ONE ALTIMA. NOW THIS IS HOW NISSAN IS TREATING US, WITH GREEDY FINGERS AND A SHAKEDOWN OF OVER $1650.00 TO REPLACE THE 3 WHEELS. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FLAW OF THE WHEEL IF THE NISSAN ENGINEERS DID NOT ANTICIPATE THAT WE HAVE CURBS IN THE UNITED STATES AND THAT VEHICLE TRAFFIC LAW OF NEW YORK REQUIRES ALL DRIVERS TO PARALLEL PARK ON THE STREET. NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE'S FRONT ROTORS. *MR THIS WAS THE CONSUMER'S THIRD SET OF FRONT ROTORS AND THE LATEST SET WARPED. THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AND PULLED TO THE SIDE WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR BRAKE WORK SIX TIMES. THE CONSUMER OWNED MANY NISSAN'S AND STATED THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST MAJOR PROBLEM EVER EXPERIENCED. DEALER HAS REPLACED ROTORS EACH TIME AND I FIND NO FAULT WITH DEALER WITH THE EXCEPTION THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THIS; OTHER THAN THE DRIVING HABITS AS EXPRESSED BY THE NISSAN REP. JUDY. THIS CONDITION IS DANGEROUS AND CAUSES THE CAR TO BE BOUNCE WITH LOSS OF CONTROL A VERY REAL POSSIBLITY. FOR THE SECOND REPLACEMENT, A STATEMENT IN THE FOLLOWUP TO NISSAN WAS MADE THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS SERIOUS. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEN IN THE CITY OR UNDER CITY CONDITIONS WHERE BRAKE PRESSURE OCCURS OFTEN; THE MILES ARE HIGHWAY MILES AS WE LIVE IN THE COUNTRY; WE HAVE A PAVED ROAD TO THE HOUSE SO ROAD CONDITIONS ARE NOT A FACTOR. THE RESPONSE BY NISSAN IS A "RUN-AROUND" WITH THE SAME VERBAGE AND REFLECTS THE NISSAN REP'S ATTTEMPT TO DEFUSE ANY COMPLAINT. IN LOOKING AT THE OFFICE OF DEFECTS INVESTIGATIONS, THERE ARE SEVERAL REFERENCES TO ROTOR FAILURE: NISSAN SAID THAT THEY WERE UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS. IN FACT, THE NISSAN DEALER (ANCIRA-SAN ANTONIO, TX) INDICATED THAT I SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN CONCERNING THIS SITUATION. I DID AND AM NOT SATISFIED THE LEAST WITH THEIR RUNAROUND AS I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS CONDITION OF AT LEAST THE VEHICLE WHICH WE HAVE.
