2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ABS AND ACTUATOR DEFECT. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE ABS SENSOR AND HUBS WERE REPLACED IN AUGUST 2009, AFTER RECEIVING NOTIFICATION FROM NISSAN. A REPEAT OF THE SAME PROBLEM RECENTLY, REQUIRED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE SENSORS, HUBS AND ACTUATOR. NISSAN FAILED TO NOTIFY THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND ISSUE A RECALL, ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE PROBLEM SINCE 2004 AND ISSUED AN ADVISORY TO DEALERS. FAILURE OF THE COMPONENTS COULD LEAD TO FAILURE IN PROPER BRAKING, SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION OF ENGINE POWER AND LOSS OF SPEEDOMETER READING. NISSAN WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT, BUT REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY IN REPAIRING THE VEHICLE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE COST OF THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST OR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, WITH NO WARNING, THE ABS LAMP, TCS LIGHT AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE BRAKES BECAME SENSITIVE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR WAS DEFECTIVE, RENDERING THE ABS SYSTEM, TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM AND THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE FORCE DISTRIBUTION INACTIVE. THE MECHANIC INSTALLED AN ABS MOTOR/MODULE PER THE NISSAN SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED MARCH 16, 2007 AND REMOVED BOTH REAR WHEEL BEARINGS AND PERFORMED AN INSPECTION AND KNUCKLE MODIFICATION PER THE BULLETIN. THE COST OF THE ABS ACTUATOR ALONE WAS $1,300; 75% OF THE TOTAL REPAIR BILL WHICH COST, I FEEL, IS EXORBITANT AND EXCESSIVE. UPDATED IVOQ 03/20/12 *TR

I HAVE HAD RECURRING ISSUES WITH THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS APRIL 2008 WHEN I NEEDED THE ABS SENSORS REPLACED. APRIL 9 2009, NISSAN REPLACED THE REAR HUB ASSEMBLY. OCTOBER 2009 NISSAN REMOVED THE ABS SENSOR AND CLEAN THE CONTACTS. THEN IN MAY 2011, I BROUGHT MY CAR IN BECAUSE THE ABS WAS ACTIVATING BUT THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. IN FEBRUARY 2012 NISSAN REPLACED THE ABS SENSOR AND ACTUATOR AT A COST OF 3K. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME PRICE WISE SINCE ALL MY PREVIOUS WORK WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE WAS NO RECALL. *TR

THE 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA HAS A MAJOR ISSUE OF VIOLENTLY JERKING AFTER 100K MILES, I HAVE SEEN REPORTS THAT IT DOES THIS EVEN BEFORE IT REACHES SUCH MILEAGE. I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA WORST CAR I HAVE EVER BOUGHT I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN PRODUCT. THE CAR VIOLENTLY JERKS INTO GEAR WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR DRIVING OFF, THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED BY MANY OWNERS AND NISSAN HAS DONE NOTHING. I HAVE SPENT 1800 HUNDRED DOLLARS REPLACING THE ENGINE MOUNTS AND THE CAR STILL JERKS. THE CAR IS PAID FOR AND I WILL NOT SPEND ANYMORE REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THAT WOULD COST MORE THAN WHAT THE CAR IS WORTH.

PURCHASED A 2006 MAXIMA WITH 62,000 MILES ON IT. BODY IS RUST FREE, CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. HOWEVER, WHILE INSPECTING THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR, NOTICED THAT BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE OF THE FLOOR BOARDS ARE RUSTED CLEAR THOUGH AND THAT A HOLE AROUND 10-12 INCHES IS FORMING. THE ONLY THING HOLDING YOUR FEET FROM HITTING THE ROAD IS THE CARPET. THIS CAR HAS NO OTHER SIGNS OF RUST ISSUES ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER DISCOVERY, I WENT TO THE INTERNET ONLY TO LEARN THAT THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH ALTIMAS AND MAXIMAS AND THAT NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT, BOTH BY NISSAN AS WELL AS THE SAFETY WATCH DOGS. I'VE OWNED MANY CARS WITH THE TAKATA AIRBAGS, AND NEVER AN ISSUE, EVEN IN ONE MY WIFE HAD AN ACCIDENT IN. AIRBAG WORKED LIKE IT SHOULD, YET THAT RECALL IS WIDELY KNOWN AND IS BEING ADDRESSED. HERE, YOU CAN LITERALLY FALL THOUGH THE FLOOR OF THE CAR, ON A CAR WITH 62,000 MILES ON IT IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, AND NOT ONE THING APPEARS TO BE HAPPENING TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. WHY? THIS CAR COST $32,500 NEW IN 2006 AND ONLY PROVIDED A USEFUL LIFE OF 62,000 MILES BEFORE IT BECAME SO UNSAFE THAT DRIVING IT IS FOOLISH. AT WHAT POINT WILL NISSAN, WHO COLLECTED THAT $32,500 BE FORCED TO COUGH SOME OF THAT BACK UP TO CORRECT ISSUES LIKE THIS IN ORDER TO CONTINUE SELLING VEHICLES IN THE UNITED STATES?

The contact filed the complaint on behalf of the owner of the 2006 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while the vehicle was stationary and being serviced with the engine running, the service technician closed the front driver's side door and moments later the front and rear driver's side curtain air bags deployed. The contact stated that during the failure, there was no one seated in the vehicle. The contact stated that there was no impact to the vehicle to cause the air bags to deploy. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 90,948.

WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE NOT AN ISSUE AND I WAS OF SOUND MIND AND BODY. I FIRMLY BELIEVE SOME KIND OF MECHANICAL DEFECT (POSSIBLY WITH MY VEHICLE'S ACCELERATOR) CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. I AM 100% CONFIDENT I DID NOT PRESS TOO HARD ON THE ACCELERATOR. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE WHICH I HAVE DRIVEN FOR OVER 8 YEARS (I'M ALSO A REPEAT OWNER OF THIS MAKE/MODEL) SO I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH HOW IT HANDLES. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THIS AND FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. NISSAN HAS ISSUED AS TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS PROBLEM. I THEN RETURNED THE CAR THE LOCAL MECHANIC AND AFTER MUCH RESEARCH AND SPEAKING WITH NISSAN, THEY CONCLUDED THAT THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ONLINE AND IT PROVED THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. NISSAN PUT OUT A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THIS VERY ISSUE, BUT NEVER OFFERED TO FIX THE ISSUE VIA A RECALL AND ETC. MY 2006 MAXIMA'S TRANSMISSION GAVE OUT AT 74,000 MILES OF NORMAL USE. THERE ARE 1,000'S OF OTHERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM AND MOST HAVE HAD TO PAY AROUND $3,000 OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. THERE ARE SOME THAT WERE FORTUNATE TO HAVE ALL OR MOST OF THE COSTS PAID BY NISSAN, EVEN WHEN THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. NISSAN REFUSES TO ASSIST WITH MY REPAIR STATING THAT I DIDN'T TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR IT'S REGULAR MAINTENANCE. I FELT ABS SYSTEM ACTUATING VIA PUMPING SENSATION IN MY BRAKE PEDAL WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON DRY PAVEMENT. IT PERFORMED WORSE WHEN GOING UPHILL, AT LOW SPEEDS AND ON FLAT SURFACES. ERROR CODES WERE GENERATED AND "DUMMY" LIGHTS WENT ON. THE BRAKING WAS NOT VERY EFFECTIVE AS A RESULT OF THE ABS KICKING IN ERRONEOUSLY. THANKFULLY I WAS KEEPING A SAFE FOLLOWING DISTANCE AND WAS ABLE TO BRAKE WITH SOME ROOM TO SPARE BUT IF I HAD REGULAR BRAKES WITHOUT THE ABS MALFUNCTIONING, I WOULD HAVE STOPPED MORE QUICKLY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FRONT BRAKES WERE WEARING PREMATURELY AT VERY LOW MILEAGE AND WERE REPLACED THREE TIMES WITHIN ONE YEAR. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

This Vehicle is Severely Defective. This Vehicle is not safe to be on the road. This Vehicle has had several repairs for the same repair issue but the problem still exists. I have spent thousands on this Vehicle and this vehicle is still inoperative and not drivable. This Vehicle is a hazard for the road. VEHICLE IS UNSAFE! VEHICLE has still not been Repaired. My brakes dont work unless my 3 dashboard lights come on. Slip, tcs and abs. Sometimes I forget and drive off. When I brake at the light you could here the wires buzzing as if there was a short circuit. Finally on my passenger side in the 'back, the tire was wiggling and noticed some lugs were missing plus the hubs lugs were loose. I haven' t taken to go get it inspected because I dont have money at the moment.

When you're driving in hazardous conditions the car loses stability and it caused me to go into a spin and hit a wall, anytime it rains you can feel that the car starts to lose grip of the road and I fear for my life every time it remotely starts to rain or the road is wet. And there's a recall on the Nissan Maxima regarding the rear suspension something and the effect of the recall on that vehicle is what's happening to my vehicle.

EVENTUALLY STOPPED DRIVING UNTIL THIS YEAR WHEN I TOOK IT TO A SHOP TO GET CHECKED OUT. WHILE DRIVING THERE THE CAR REVVED AND STALL AT EVERY LIGHT AND I ALMOST HIT THE BACK OF A CAR WHEN IT DECIDED TO REV AT A 4 WAY STOP ON A HILL. IT'S EITHER JERKING,STALLING, OR REVVING. WHILE PARKED IT ALSO SLAMS INTO REVERSE AND THE FIRST. I HAVE A YOUNG SON AND THIS VEHICLE IS DEFIANTLY NOT SAFE FOR HIM TO DRIVE IN. I WAS TOLD TO REPLACE THE SOLENOIDS, TIMING CHAINS, AND TO PUT A KIT IN IT FOR THE SHIFTING ISSUES. I ALSO NEED TO GET AN ALIGNMENT DONE TO ADDRESS THE SHAKING WHEN GOING OVER 55MPH. AT THIS POINT THE MOTOR MOUNTS PROBABLY NEED TO BE REPLACED. I'M STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON THIS VEHICLE AND ALL WARRANTIES ARE EXPIRED. THE AIR BAGS ARE ALSO MALFUNCTIONING AND THE LIGHTS BLINK ON AND OFF THIS WILL COST UP TO A $1000 TO HAVE FIXED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO COMES OFF AND ON BUT NO CODES SHOW UP. I HAD TO DO REPLACE A WORN ENGINE MOUNT ON MY CAR, WHICH REQUIRED LOWERING THE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER (NISSAN SPEAK), OR CRADLE AS I CALL IT. I NOTICED THAT THE FRONT MOUNTING STUDS WERE EXTREMELY CORRODED. I DO LIVE IN A SNOW/SALT STATE, OHIO. THE REAR STUDS LOOKED OK. THE WORST OF THE FRONT STUDS HAD APPROXIMATELY 25% OF THE STUD ROTTED AWAY DUE TO CORROSION. THIS IS NOT A SIMPLE REPLACEABLE A BOLT, SO I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO REASSEMBLE THE CRADLE WITH THE STUDS AS IS. IF THESE STUDS WERE TO FAIL, THE RESULT COULD BE CATASTROPHIC. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE GAGES ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL BEGAN TO READ ERRATIC. SPEEDOMETER, FUEL AND TACHOMETER DRIFTED BETWEEN ZERO AND THIER MAXIMUMS. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BACKGROUND LIGHTING ALSO BEGAN TO FLICKER. THE VEHICLE MADE IT HOME. AT HOME THE DASH WAS TAPPED A FEW TIMES TO SEE IF IT WAS A LOOSE CONNECTION. UPON DOING THIS, SOME OF THE GAGES BEGAN TO READ NORMAL, WHILE OTHERS BEGAN TO READ ERRATIC. THE VEHICLE WOULD START AND ALL THE MAJOR SYSTEMS APPEARED TO OPERATE NORMAL; OTHER THAN THE GAGES AND BACKGROUND LIGHTING, WHICH WERE STILL UNRELIABLE. THE NEXT DAY, 5/26/11, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN INTO A PARKING LOT THE GAGES AND LIGHTING STARTED ACTING ERRATIC, EXCEPT THIS TIME SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE STA.TUS DISPLAY SCREEN (THE SCREEN IN THE CENTER OF THE DASH BOARD USED TO GIVE INFORMATION ON TIME, MAINT, TEMPERATURE). THE ENGINE WAS SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY. THE PROBLEM WAS FOUND AND FIXED BY A DEALER. THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY A COIN THAT HAD FALLEN INTO A GAP THAT WAS FORMED BY DESIGN OR MISALINEMENT OF THE DISPLAY SCREEN AND THE SHELF AT THE BASE OF THE SCREEN. THE SCREEN IS RECESSED 3.125 INCHES AND DECLINED AT AN ANGLE OF APPROX 18 DEG. THIS ALLOWS ANY SMALL OBJECTS TO MIGRATE TO THE DISPLAY SCREEN GAP. THE GAP MEASURES .114 INCHES ACROSS THE BASE OF THE DISPLAY. THE COIN (A DIME) CONTINUED DOWNWARD UNTIL IT CAME IN CONTACT WITH AN ENCLOSED PRINTED CIRCUIT (PC). THE PLASTIC ENCLOSURE HAS A SMALL SLOT(.3125 X .78125) ON TOP WHICH ALLOWED THE COIN TO DROP IN AND SHORT OUT THE PC. THE REPLACEMENT PART DOESN'T HAVE THE SLOT. TWO SMALL HOLES BURNT THROUGH THE PLASTIC ENCLOSURE. P/N OF PC IS 277607Y00A/UPR/5804. WILL FURNISH PHOTOS UPON REQUEST.

I HAVE A 2006, NISSAN MAXIMA SE. I'VE BEEN HAVING SEVERE PROBLEMS WITH MY TRANSMISSION. THE CAR JERKS VIOLENTLY WHEN ITS CHANGES GEARS BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND, AS WELL AS BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM ONLINE, I'VE SEEN COUNTLESS NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. I RE-BUILT THE TRANSMISSION AT MY EXPENSE OF $3,200 AND IT WASN'T OVER YET, THEN CURRENTLY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND MY CAR WONT START, I WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE KEY ON AND OFF 4-6 TIMES EVERY TIME I NEED TO DRIVE FOR IT TO START. MY SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING, THEREFORE I CAN'T SEE HOW FAST OR SLOW I'M DRIVING NOR IS THE MILEAGE CALCULATION ARE WORKING IT HAS BEEN STUCK AT 86,745. IN JUNE OF 2010 WE STARTED TO NOTICE CONDENSATION BUILDING UP IN THE LEFT DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT. IT GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE BUT THE LEESBURG FL NISSAN SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID TO IGNORE IT SINCE IT WAS VERY EXPENSIVE ($1200) TO REPLACE THE UNIT. THEN IN FEB OF 2011 WE NOTICED THAT THE XENON BULB IN THAT FIXTURE HAD BLOWN OUT. WE DON'T DO TOO MUCH NIGHT DRIVING SO WE DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHEN IT BLEW, BUT IT SEEMS THE EXCESSIVE CONDENSATION CONTRIBUTED TO THE BULB'S FAILURE. THE ABS SYSTEM, SPECIFICALLY THE ACTUATOR, IN THE 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA FAILED. INITIALLY, THE ABS SYSTEM WOULD ACTIVATE EVERY TIME THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. IT FIRST OCCURRED ON DRY PAVEMENT AT HIGHWAY SPEED (55MPH) BRAKING AND THEN ALL SUBSEQUENT BRAKING THEREAFTER, REGARDLESS OF SPEED OR ROAD CONDITION. NOW THE CAR IS IN FAIL-SAFE MODEL WHERE THE ABS SYSTEM, TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM, AND ELECTRONIC BRAKE FORCE DISTRIBUTION ARE INACTIVE ON THE VEHICLE. NISSAN DEALERS ESTIMATE THE FIX TO BE APPROXIMATELY $3000, WITH THE MAJORITY OF THE REPAIR IN REPLACING THE ABS ACTUATOR. THERE WAS A PREVIOUS RECALL REPAIR UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V512000 (SEATS: FRONT ASSEMBLY: POWER ADJUST). HOWEVER, THE RECALL SERVICE REPAIR HAD NOT CORRECTED THE SAFETY DEFECT. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE FREE OF CHARGE REGARDING THE SAFETY DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 71,000.

THE WEATHER WAS DRY AND CLEAR AND THE PARKING LOT WAS ASPHALT. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN, PROPERTY DAMAGE WAS INCURRED AND THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AND TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE POLICE IMPOUND, THE CONTACTS INSURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PICTURES WERE TAKEN. THE SERVICE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE AT 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE SWERVES TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER STATED THIS WAS NORMAL FOR A VEHICLE WITH 18 INCH TIRES. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THE CONSUMER THE REASON HE EXPERIENCED THE JERKING OF THE VEHICLE WAS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS 18 INCH WHEELS AND THE WHEELS WANT TO FOLLOW THE ROAD IRREGULARITIES.
