The steering wheel lock malfunctioned. The part is available for inspection. The car was parked on the street. It endangered others because it would not start and had to be towed. This issue was confirmed and reproduced by the dealer with diagnostics. There were no symptoms prior to this issue and the warning light only came on after the part malfunctioned.

In 2016 we had to replace the steering lock mechanism. Went to start the car and a security light came on and car would not start , and had to get the car towed from work. We paid to have the part replaced on 12/23/2016. Now, 11/27/2023 we had the same issue with the steering lock mechanism where we tried to start the vehicle and it won’t due to this same issue. Now having to get the car towed again to have the part replaced. I saw there was a voluntary safety recall on this issue in 2017. We did not receive any letter stating our car was affected, yet we replaced the part in 2016 with no reimbursement and now again in 2023 with the part doubling in cost.

I HAVE PARKED MY VECHICKLE AND AFTER 10 MIN. I COULDN'T START ENGINE. IN NISSAN SERVICE THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEED REPLACE ELECTRIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK ($830.00). THEY TOLD ME TOO, THAT WAS RECALL ON THAT PART BUT UNFORTUNATELY HAS EXPIRED.

TWO DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT MY CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED FROM MY HOUSE BECAUSE IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, FIELD STEERING WAS SO OUT OF CONTROL I HAD A HARD TIME KEEPING IN MY LANE THE BRAKES WERE IF YOU WERE TO JUST TOUCH THE BRAKES THE SLIGHTEST YOU WOULD GO OUT THE WINDSHIELD PRACTICALLY. AFTER THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE FIXED THE STEERING ISSUES, I PICKED MY CAR UP FROM THE SHOP AND I WAS GOING DOWN THE CITY STREET AND IT JERKED SO HARD TO THE RIGHT THAT I JUMPED THE CURB ALMOST HIT A BUSH AND THREE PEOPLE WALKING IN THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS MY PROBLEM NOT THEIRS.*DT*JB

The contact sustained hips and back pain. The contact was seen by emergency services and sought medical assistance later that day. The contact underwent physical therapy and hip replacement surgery. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was totaled. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 257,000.

Passenger front air bag defect. Since reading many post in this forum in relation to the same issue, manufacture should be held responsible to replace sensor. Vehicle have not been in a wreck as far as I know. The sensor light came on around June this year and haven’t went off. I received a quote for approximately $2500 depending on available parts. If this issue is not rectified by the dealer, will make sure not to purchase another Nissan Maxima again. Just imagine if I have a family member in the front seat and a accident occur! Cannot even imagine the outcome.

The airbag warning light on the dash started blinking. The local dealer investigated and advised that the front passenger airbag occupancy sensor was defective. Repair would require complete replacement of the front passenger seat cushion at an estimated cost of about $2,000. The mechanic told me he has seen the exact same issue numerous times for the Maxima of multiple model years. This appears to be a persistent problem with these sensors as reflected in multiple Nissan user forum entries. This is a safety issue that has been detected on multiple Maxima model years over the past several years. It needs to be fully investigated and a safety recall needs issued to hold the manufacturer accountable. The customers should not have to bear the expensive repair.

The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the front-end mounting strut insulator. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V358000 (Suspension) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V358000 (Suspension) and he needed to pay out of pocket for the repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and they stated that the vehicle warranty had expired and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 120,000.

I own a 2009 Maxima. I took the vehicle into a repair shop to diagnose a problem that i was experiencing with the suspension. The vehicle made a thumping noise on rough or bumpy road surfaces and felt as though the front end was going to break apart whenever I hit even a small pot-hole. I was told that the complete strut assembly as well as the lower control arms had to be replaced. I was also advised that my vehicle was unsafe to drive. The cost and labor to replace these parts is approx. $1,400. I can't afford to repair the vehicle at this time as I am unemployed due to Covid-19. I'm no mechanic but I will have to attempt to repair the vehicle myself.

THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED 2009 NEW. APPROX 1 YEAR LATER THE DRIVERS SEAT BEGAN TO ROCK. NISSAN REPLACED THE DRIVERS TRACK WHICH THEY SAID WAS DEFECTIVE. A FEW MONTHS LATER IT BEGAN TO ROCK AGAIN AND WAS REPORTED TO NISSAN, THEY STATED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THE SEAT CONTINUED TO ROCK AND INCREASINGLY GOT WORSE. JANUARY 2014 THE VEHICLE IS RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT IS DANGEROUSLY ROCKING BACK AND FOURTH WHEN YOU ACCELERATE OR BRAKE. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATES HE IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. NISSAN REFUSES TO MAKE REPAIRS BECAUSE ITS OUT OF WARRANTY. FURTHER INVESTIGATION FINDS THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES OUT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE STEERING LOCK SYSTEM (AN ANTI-THEFT DEVICE) FAILED. IT LOCKED MY STEERING WHEEL AND DISABLED THE START BUTTON ON THE CAR. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY; I WAS STRANDED IN A PARKING LOT AWAY FROM HOME WITH A CAR THAT WOULD NOT START. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAD ISSUED A TSB, BUT NO RECALL. NOR WAS I NOTIFIED OF THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM AS AN OWNER.

THE STEERING LOCK CONTROL ON THE VEHICLE FAILED CAUSING THE CAR TO BECOME DISABLED. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN AND WAS LOCKED IN PLACE, ADDITIONALLY THE VEHICLE WAS STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. FORTUNATELY THE INCIDENT OCCURRED IN A PARKING LOT HAD THE STEERING LOCK CONTROL FAILED WHILE DRIVING A SIGNIFICANT ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE LIKELY OCCURRED AS THE DRIVER WOULD HAVE LOST STEERING CONTROL. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE NISSAN SERVICE SHOP FOR A REPAIR COSTING NEARLY $1000. AFTER ONLINE RESEARCH I DISCOVERED MANY OTHER NISSAN OWNERS HAVE SUFFERED THE SAME SAFETY FAILURE ON THEIR VEHICLES. IT IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER SAFETY DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED.

TIRES VIBRATED AS IF OUT OF BALANCE. TOOK BACK TO DEALER HE REBALANCED AND ROTATED TIRES. THIS DID NOT CHANGE VIBRATION. MY 2009 MAXIMA CURRENTLY HAS 128,00 MILES ON IT. SATURDAY 10/26 MY TRANSMISSION WENT WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, HEADED TO WORK, MY CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN ALTHOUGH MY FOOT WAS ON THE GAS. THE DASHBOARD HAS MELTED CAUSING SEVERE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD. THIS DEFECT MAKES IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE CARS AND PEDESTRIANS. ON THE MORNING OF 1/8/13 I DROVE MY 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA TO MY COMMUTER PARKING LOT, AND REALIZED THAT I DIDN'T COMPLETELY PARK IN MY SPACE AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF. IT EVENTUALLY WENT COMPLETELY OUT AND NOW IT DOESN'T MOVE AT ALL. IT IS ALSO SMOKING UPON STARTING IT NOW.

IN NOV. 2009, APPROX 3 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING NEW CAR, IT STARTED INTERMITTENTLY HAVING HEAVIER VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. SINCE THEN, THERE IS A CONSTANT MINOR PULSING/VIBRATION, WITH INTERMITTENT VIBRATION THAT HAS MORE INTENSITY. WHEN I HAVE MORE INSTANCES OF THE "HEAVIER" VIBRATION DURING MY COMMUTE IT CAUSES MY HANDS TO TINGLE. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES WITH THIS COMPLAINT - THE LAST TIME WITH A REGIONAL REP PRESENT. NISSAN IS OFFERING TO REPLACE FREE OF CHARGE FOR VEHICLES WITH CERTAIN VIN NUMBERS (NHTSA #10119190, NISSAN CAMPAIGN ID PC516). HOWEVER, NISSAN HAS STATED THAT MY VIN# IS NOT PART OF THE PROGRAM. NISSAN HAS ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE NHTSA SET THE PARAMETERS FOR THE VOLUNTARY SERVICE CAMPAIGN, AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO EXPLAIN WHY MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM. WE OWN A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA THAT WAS PURCHASED NEW ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2009. WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH MY WIFE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM TURNS OF THE AIRBAG. MY WIFE IS 5'5" AND 125LBS, WELL WITHIN NORMAL ADULT SIZE. UPON DISCOVERING THE PROBLEM WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIPS MECHANIC 4 TIMES OVER THE LAST 11 MONTHS WITH EVERY TIME OTHER THAN THE INITIAL VISIT LASTING ALMOST A WEEK EACH TIME. THE LAST TIME WE TOOK IT IN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP MANAGER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD NO RECORD OF OUR VEHICLE BEING IN THERE SHOP EVER. UPON THE COMPLETION OF THE FINAL TRIP TO THE SHOP WE DISCUSSED THE ISSUES AT LENGTH WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP AND WE REPLICATED THE ISSUE IN BOTH THE 2010 AND 2011 MODEL MAXIMA'S. SIMILAR PART ON NISSAN GTRS WAS RECALLED, PART NUMBER 48700-JF00A OR 48700-JF00B, BEING REPLACED BY 48700-JF00C SAME PART NUMBER IS FAILING FOR NISSAN 370ZS AS WELL, SAME YEARS AND SAME PART NUMBER 48700-JF00A OR 48700-JF00B, YET THEY ARE NOT BEING RECALLED. THIS PROBLEM IS ALSO OCCURRING IN NISSAN MAXIMAS AND NISSAN MURANOS IN ALL MODELS OF NISSAN THIS PART WAS REMOVED IN MID 2010 DUE TO CONSISTENT FAILURE. THE BRAKES ON MY NISSAN MAXIMA FAILED AND I WAS ALMOST HIT BY CARS AS I SLID INTO A MAJOR INTERSECTION WHILE BRAKING FOR A RED LIGHT. The airbag light is on and blinking. I did call the local Nissan dealer and they told me there was not a recall for this problem on the 2009 Nissan maxima. This seems very unfair because several recalls have been made on the airbags. Also I was told over 5 years ago that the struts on my car were defective when I had my brakes repaired. I did call the Nissan company and they told me my year was not included in the recall. My car was driving so badly I was having problems controlling it and I had to go ahead and get the front struts replaced and shocks replaced on the back and they had to put a stabilizer bar (sway Bar Link) on it also. I recently had this done. This airbag light had come on 4 years ago but I was thinking it was my seat belt light. When I would remove my purse to the floor it would go off. My brother took my manual out and told me it was the airbag and not the seat belt light. It blinks all the time now. I firmly believe the Nissan company know this 2009 Maxima has defects but they refuse to acknowledge it. Appears they could care less about our safety.

I recently had my father pass away and my mom gave me his car , the air conditioning stopped working then the serpentine belt broke so I had a mobile mechanic come out and replace serpentine belt and tensioner. Then the power steering wheel fell off on freeway luckily no one was hurt I had to have the power steering pump replaced and another new serpentine belt installed. Then I went to get tires and an alignment done on the vehicle because it was driving kinda weird to be informed that the struts need replaced when I know my father had the struts replaced less then a year ago . Now today I was driving came to a red light and lost all power i could not even use hazard lights because I had no power. I was stuck there.I had to get towed home and purchased a new battery then called a mobile mechanic and was informed I have an ecm failure.with that being said car is unsafe to drive oh and serpentine belt broke again.

On 9/12/22, my son purchased a 2009 Nissan Maxima from Street Cars. My son was told that the car did not pass the state inspection, but all items on the list were taken care of. The salesman noted the Air Intake Tube would be ordered for the car and installed once received. My son paid $5299 in cash. My son wanted to pay with a cashier's check, but the salesperson requested cash. On the way home to Woodbridge from Fredericksburg, the vehicle began to slow down as if it were going to cut off. My son slowed down and proceeded home. On 9/13/22, my son went to Minnieville Exxon to have the vehicle emissions test completed, and the car was listed as "Not Ready." In addition, seven (7) additional issues must be addressed before the vehicle can pass. We began calling the salesman at 11:45 am, sent a text message at 12:17 pm, and called until 1:30 pm. Due to what we felt were deceptive practices, we traveled to Street Cars in Fredericksburg to speak with the salesman about returning the vehicle for a refund. The salesman stated the vehicle was sold "As Is” and is on the Bill of Sales. We asked about the sign on the front of his business which states "3-Day Return Policy". The salesman said it does not apply to cash cars or discounted cars. When asked about the items on the failed inspection report being taken care of, the salesperson refused to discuss it further. The salesperson stated my son should use the warranty, where he will be responsible for half the cost of all repairs. When the salesperson was asked about the Air Intake Tube order, he refused to provide a confirmation number for the order, a telephone number, or a location for the company. My son did not receive any title paperwork and was told to sign the vehicle delivery form when items had not been received. We contacted ASC Warranty company which was provided with the vehicle, and they told us to take the car to any automotive repair shop for an estimate. We took the vehicle to Sheehy Nissan in Manas

MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING SOUTH BOUND ON THE NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE AT 75 MPH AND THE CAR SHUTDOWN, IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND LOST POWER. THE UPPER FRONT STRUT INSULATORS MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED OUT OF SPECIFICATION RESULTING IN A POTENTIAL FOR THE STRUT INSULATOR TO CRACK) I HEARD NOISES FROM THE FRONT AREA OF THE CAR AND TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM, I TOOK THE CAR BACK AND THE NOISE GOT WORSE, I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY RECALLED THE VEHICLE FOR A SOUND DAMPENER, AND WAS REPLACED. I TOOK MY FAMILY ON A 2 HOUR ROAD TRIP WHEN MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE SERIOUS NOISES, THE CAR BEGAN TO JERK AND SHAKE. I LOOKED ONLINE AND NOTICED A RECALL THAT WAS NEVER BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION, THE RECALL STATES THAT "IF THE STRUT INSULATOR IS CRACKED, THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR THE STRUT ROD TO COME OUT OF ITS MOUNTING POSITION, WHICH COULD AFFECT VEHICLE STABILITY AND INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH", I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH THE SALES MANAGER AND WAS TOLD THAT "IF I FELT THAT THE CAR IS UNSAFE THEN DON'T DRIVE IT!". I AM PAYING FOR A CAR THAT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND WAS SOLD THIS CAR AFTER THE RECALL AND STILL HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. I BELIEVE THAT MY FAMILY AND I HAVE BEEN SEVERELY BEEN PUT IN HARMS WAY AND HAVE BEEN LIED TO ABOUT A RECALL! I FEEL THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE DUTY TO REPAIR A CRUCIAL SAFETY ISSUE ON A VEHICLE THAT WAS PRESENT ON THEIR LOT. I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW NISSAN MAXIMA IN NOV. MY SISTER BORROWED THE CAR FOR THE WEEKEND AND THE BRAKES FAILED CAUSING HER TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO A BODY SHOP, THE MECHANIC ON DUTY GOT THE CAR RUNNING, WHILE REMOVING THE CAR FROM THE TOW TRUCK HE DROVE THE CAR ABOUT TEN FEET AND THE FIRST THING HE SAID WAS THE BRAKES FEEL FLUFFY. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED AND CLEARED BY THE BODY SHOP, IT WAS THERE ROUGH 5 WEEKS, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHO THEN INSPECTED THE CAR AND BRAKES, THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG AND DOCUMENTED THE INCIDENT. ON JULY 25 I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM THE PARK WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE BACK SEAT WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED AGAIN, I WAS LUCKY NOBODY WAS IN FRONT OF ME. I GOT THE CAR STOPPED AND THANKFULLY I WAS LESS THEN A MILE AWAY FROM HOME. ON MONDAY I CALLED THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND SAID THEY CAN COME PICK IT UP, I WONT DRIVE IT AND NO LONGER FEEL SAFE IN IT. THEY HAD IT TOWED OUT THAT SAME DAY, THEY HAVE HAD THE CAR EVER SINCE. THE CAR WAS INSPECTED AGAIN ON AUGUST 21 2009, AND CLEARED AGAIN. I WAS TOLD MONDAY THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. TO MY KNOWLEDGE NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN REPLACED OR REPAIRED ON THE BRAKING SYSTEM. *TR

I PURCHASE MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA IN JULY 2003. SINCE I HAVE HAD THE CAR I'VE HAD NOTHING BUT MAJOR PROBLEMS. I PERFORM THE REQUIRED MAINTENANCE ON THE CAR AND STILL HAVE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THINGS THAT SHOULD HAVE LASTED ON THE CAR THE CD PLAYER HAS BEEN REPLACE AND WHEN OUT AGAIN TWICE. TENSOR ASSEMBLY AND TIMING BELT ALSO 1500. AND NOW I HAVE THE REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION ANOTHER 3100.00. THIS IS RIDICULOUS FOR A CAR THAT HAS A LUXURY PRICE TAG. NISSAN HAS NOT BE HELPFUL AT ALL AND DO NOT TRY TO ANSWER OF HELP IN ANY WAY. IN JANUARY 2009 I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA. IN APRIL MY INTERIOR LIGHTS, STEERING WHEEL AND SEAT AND THE HEAT ON MY DRIVERS SIDE SEAT STOPPED WORKING. I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE NISSAN DEALER FOR REPAIRS, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS AND ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AND THAT THEY HAD REPAIRED IT. TWO WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME WHEN I WENT TO GEORGIA, WHEN I GOT BACK TO MARYLAND I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE NISSAN DEALER FOR REPAIRS AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. ON MAY 19TH MY STEERING WHEEL STUCK IN THE HIGHEST UPWARD POSITION AGAIN AND ALSO MY SEAT WAS NOT WORKING, AND THE LOCKS ON THE DOORS KEPT LOCKING AND UNLOCKING WHILE MY CAR WAS TURNED ON BUT NOT BEING DRIVEN, ON MAY 20TH I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR REPAIRS AGAIN, THE SERVICE WRITER AT THE NISSAN DEALER LOOKED AT IT AND ALSO NOTICED THE PROBLEM ( MY STEERING WHEEL WAS STILL STUCK IN THE UPWARD POSITION AND THE SEAT WAS NOT WORKING), AFTER HE PLAYED AROUND WITH SEVERAL BUTTONS HE TOLD ME THAT EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE DOING FINE AND HE DIDN'T KNOW IF THEY COULD DO ANYTHING FOR ME. I TOLD HIM THAT I WOULD LEAVE MY CAR FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG STILL WITH MY CAR. I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I KNOW SOMETHING IS WRONG, SO WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE. THIS HAS BEEN THREE TIMES THAT THEY HAVE TRIED TO FIX MY CAR AND I AM GETTING NOWHERE. *TR
