I WAS UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE AFTER RETURNING TO MY PARKED CAR DURING A LATE NIGHT DRIVE TO VISIT A FRIEND. WHEN I TRIED THE PUSH-BUTTON IGNITION THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE FROM PAST LOCK. I NOTICED A NEW LIGHT INDICATOR FOR MY "INTELLIGENT KEY" I HAD NOT SEEN BEFORE. AFTER A QUICK GOOGLE, I FOUND THAT THESE SYMPTOMS WERE LINKED TO A ELECTRONIC STEERING CONTROL LOCK DEFECT THAT HAD BEEN KNOW FOR YEARS. AFTER CONTACTING NISSAN I WAS TOLD THAT ARE INDEED HAVE A SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR THE 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA HOWEVER FOR I AM FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEFECT AS MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN "SERVICE CAMPAIGN". BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT I WAS STRANDED MILES FROM HOME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND FORCED TO PAY OVER 800$ OUT OF POCKET IN EMERGENCY REPAIRS TO REPLACE A PART THAT MAY VERY WELL FAIL AGAIN IN THE FUTURE.

STEERING COLUMN FAILURE. THE STEERING LOCKING MECHANISM SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. HAD TO GET IT TOWED AND COST NEARLY $1,500 TO GET THE VEHICLE FIXED. FOR A WELL MAINTAINED 2010 MAXIMA, THATS A LARGE UNEXPECTED BILL. SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING TO LOTS OF NISSAN MODELS. NISSAN NEEDS TO CORRECT THIS SITUATION.

ON SUNDAY, 5 FEBRUARY 2017, I LEFT MY HOUSE TO VISIT MY BROTHER AT 10AM AND WHEN I CAME BACK OUTSIDE (20MINS LATER) TO MY CAR, IT WOULD NOT START. AN ORANGE LIGHT THAT READ "KEY" POPPED UP ON THE DASHBOARD. TRIED TO START THE CAR AND THE KEY LIGHT CAME ON, BRAKES WERE HARD TO PRESS, AND THE IGNITION WOULD NOT START ONLY LOCK WOULD SHOW UP ON THE PUSH TO START BUTTON. AFTER TWO HOURS, I HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WHILE WAITING FOR THE TOW TRUCK TO ARRIVE, I DID SOME SEARCHING ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS WAS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM WITH THE NISSAN MAXIMA AND NOT COVERED BY ANY EXTENDED WARRANTIES; THOUGH I READ THAT THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED OFTEN ENOUGH WITH THE 2009 MAXIMA THAT NISSAN ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THIS REPAIR. THE PIECE IN QUESTION THAT WAS THE PROBLEM... QUOTED BY NISSAN IS THE "STEERING LOCK." THIS PIECE HAS BEEN RECALLED BY NISSAN IN THE EARLIER MODELS, BUT APPARENTLY NOT FOR MY VEHICLE (WHICH IS THE YEAR AFTER THE ONE THAT IS RECALLED) APPARENTLY THEY DIDN'T FIX THIS ISSUE. MONDAY, 6 FEBRUARY 2017, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO CONFIRM MY CAR ISSUE (LOCK STEERING) AND THE COST WAS GOING TO BE $1104 TO REPAIR, WITH MY MILITARY DISCOUNT THE COST WAS $985.46. STILL THIS IS MONEY I SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO PAY CONSIDERING THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER MALFUNCTION AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WEAR AND TEAR OF VEHICLE. WHICH, BTW, THE VEHICLE IS IN GREAT SHAPE AND HAS HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE CHECKS AND ALL WORK COMPLETED BY A NISSAN TECHNICIAN WHICH MAKES THIS EVEN MORE FRUSTRATING. THIS COMPLAINT IS TO NOT ONLY BRING ATTENTION TO THE ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA, BUT TO ALSO GET REIMBURSED FOR MY OUT OF POCKET REPAIR. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL NISSAN CUSTOMER SINCE 2000 (THIS IS MY THIRD MAXIMA; FAVORITE TYPE OF CAR), BUT I CAN HONESTLY SAY NISSAN, YOU'RE LOSING YET ANOTHER CUSTOMER'THIS IS RIDICULOUS.

MY WIFE WAS STRANDED AT A BUSINESS AND OUR CAR WOULDN'T START. AFTER CALLING OUR LOCAL DEALER, IT'S A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING LOCK. WE PURCHASED THIS 2010 MAXIMA NEW IN SEPT. 2009. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY NISSAN. WE HAVE 67000 MILES AND WAS TOLD THAT IT'S NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE.

GOT IN CAR LEAVING FROM GYM THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED COULD NOT MOVE IT. CALLED DEALER WHO TOLD ME TO HOLD KEY FOB OVER CAR IGNITION DID NOT RESOLVE SITUATION. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED . I GOT ON LINE TO RESEARCH ABOUT THIS LOCKING MECHANISM AND HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MILLIONS OF CONSUMER COMPLAINTS TO THIS VERY ISSUE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MILLIONS OF COMPLAINTS BEING FILED AGAINST NISSAN FOR THIS SITUATION. APPARENTLY THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS INTERNAL STEERING WHEEL LOCK MECHANISM HOWEVER NISSAN HAS PASSED THE COST OF THE FAULTY COMPONENT ONTO THE UNEXPECTED CONSUMER. UNEXPECTEDLY, AFTER DRIVING ONE KID TO SCHOOL THIS MORNING, VEHICLE (STATIONARY) WOULD NOT START TO DRIVE MY OTHER KID TO MIDDLE SCHOOL. THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK (ESCL) UNIT THAT LOCKS THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF TO HELP PREVENT THEFT PREVENTS THE VEHICLE FROM RECOGNIZING MY KEY (FOB), NO REGULAR KEY IS ISSUED, JUST BUTTON START. IN MY VEHICLE THE ESCL MAY MALFUNCTION AFTER THE VEHICLE IS LOCKED AND COULD PREVENT THE ENGINE FROM STARTING. STILL WAITING TO HEAR THE DREADFUL CALL FROM THE DEALER (HAVE TO BE TOWED AND I AM NOT EVEN DONE MAKING PAYMENTS FOR MY 2010 MAXIMA) TO SEE WHAT THE DAMAGE WILL BE OR IF COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. NOT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK, MEANS IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. STEERING WHEEL LOCK SYSTEM WORKS WITH FAB TURNING ON VEHICLE DISENGAGED AND THE WIRING WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE CULPRIT AND WITHOUT THE REPAIR OF $950 THE CAR WILL NOT TURN ON. THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING JUST FINE 1 HOUR PRIOR TO LOCKING ME OUT AND CAUSING MANY OF HOURS WITH AAA DIAGNOSTICS, THEN TOWING TO 2 SEPARATE LOCATIONS AND I ASKED THE DEALER IF THIS IS A ROUTINE ISSUE IT SEEMS EXTREME AND A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH RESULTING IF IT HAPPENED WHEN ON THE ROAD AND NOT IN MY GARAGE TO QUOTE THEIR RESPONSE WAS NO IT WOULDN'T OF DONE IT WHILE DRIVING BUT IT COULD OF DESERTED YOU IN A LOCATION OTHER THAN YOUR HOME CAUSING YOU EVEN FURTHER INCONVENIENCE. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD, I MAINTAIN IT BY OPERATORS MANUAL, I CANNOT EXPLAIN HOW UPSETTING IT IS TO HAVE A VEHICLE WITH THE "AUTO THEFT" SELLING POINT BE A FAULTY MANUFACTURING OF THE ABILITY FOR OWNERS TO START THEIR VEHICLE. THE RANDOM STOP WORKING IS VERY CONCERNING BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL CANNOT MOVE. ITS DEFINITELY A VEHICLE THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR THIS SITUATION.

ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE AFTER WORK, MY CAR WOULD NOT START. I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A FLASHING YELLOW LIGHT AND I PLUGGED THAT INTO GOOGLE. IT APPEARED THAT IT WAS THE STEERING LOCK CONTROL MECHANISM AND IT WAS COMMON FOR THIS TO FAIL. I HAD TO GET MY CAR TOWED FROM WORK TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CHARGE WAS $900 FOR THE PART AND $250 FOR THE SERVICE. DOING RESEARCH, I NOTICED THAT THIS PART WAS RECALLED FOR 2009 ALTIMAS. I BOUGHT MY CAR IN 2009, BUT IT WAS A 2010 MODEL, SO IT IS MY ASSUMPTION THAT THIS WAS MADE WITH THESE 2009 PARTS. THIS PART IS VITAL APPARENTLY, AS IT CAUSES ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WITH THE STARTER TO DISABLE. I FEEL FORTUNATE THAT I WAS NOT TRAVELING AS I WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED. IT FEELS THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER, THEY ARE NOT FIXING IT AND CHARGING A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR THE PART ALONE. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE FOR USERS OF NISSAN'S TO NOT BE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND NOT HAVE THIS PART FIXED IMMEDIATELY. NISSAN SHOULD DO THEIR PART AND OFFER A REPLACEMENT FOR FREE SO INDIVIDUALS HAVE FAITH IN USING THEIR SERVICES AGAIN.

SUSPENSION

Yes the tire sensor light is on and the suspension has gone out and I have been advised that it needs struts and sway bar links and that I can not drive it or it will cause a wreck/collision.. Nissan has a recall on Nissan maximas for suspension but said my model is not included and what is recalled on other maximas is exactly what’s wrong with mine! My car sounds like it’s about to fall apart.

The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the steering wheel began to violently shake without warning as his vehicle also began to wobble uncontrollably. The contact stated that the wobbling came to a stop once he released his foot off the accelerator pedal. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed with a cracked strut insulator. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V358000 (Suspension) which he linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 148,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.

The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle decelerated while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact then stated that the RPM’s failed to increase. Additionally, the contact stated that while shifted into reverse, he heard a whining sound then the vehicle half shifted. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer and had not yet been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the Extended Warranty had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 157,000.

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR TO SOUTHERN CAL, THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 2000 RPMS PERIODICALLY. I PARKED THE CAR FOR 1 - 2 HRS AND IT SEEMED TO START WORKING AGAIN. ONCE HOME, I HEADED TO THE MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY AND THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED COMPLETELY. I SHOULD HAVE STOPPED AND CALLED NISSAN ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE ONCE I MADE IT HOME THE ODOMETER WAS ABOVE 120,000.

CVT NISSAN 2010 MAXIMA PROBLEMS & ISSUES ----THESE ARE RECORDED PROBLEMS WITH NISSAN'S NEW CVT TRANSMISSION ON NISSAN MAXIMA 2010. THE CVT EXHIBITS LOST OF POWER, HIGH RPM, LOUD WHINING NOISE, AND CVT GETS STUCK IN 6TH GEAR (WON'T DOWN SHIFT) IN MANUAL AND DRIVE MODE. THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE AT HIGH SPEEDS AND GIVES A P1778 CODE (OTHER CODES AS WELL). . THIS CVT TRANSMISSION SUCKS. I TOOK IT TO FOUR DEALERSHIPS. I WAS TOLD NOTHING IS WRONG. THE CAR WAS FINALLY DIAGNOSED WITH "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON". THE ERROR CODE 1778 &. FOUR OTHER CODES WERE PULLED IN TOTAL. THE OVERALL DIAGNOSIS IS "COMPLETE CVT TRANSMISSION FAILURE"I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS. THE CODE OCCURRED AT 44K, 65K, 85K MILES, AND 94K MILES, AND EACH TIME IT WAS UNDIAGNOSABLE SINCE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT STAY ON. I WAS ABLE TO GET THIS DIAGNOSED WITH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AT 124,000 MILES. AT NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS I SPOKE WITH MEGAN, JUANITA AND THEN CALLIA FROM THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH (SO SHE SAYS - SHE WAS A TELEPHONE REPRESENTATIVE). ALL OF THESE NISSAN REPS HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF NISSAN ENGINES OR CVT'S. CONSUMER AFFAIRS REFUSED TO BELIEVE THAT THE DEALERS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM EXISTS, EVEN DESPITE THE TSB'S, WARRANTY EXTENSION, NUMEROUS CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS, AND MY NUMEROUS CALLS OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS TO NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS. ALL IN ALL THEY DID NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE ONGOING ISSUES WITH THE CVT. Dash becomes very sticky from sun and heat shining on it and produces a glare that causes blind spots and makes difficult to see out front window. Can't see what is out there depending on direction sun hits dash. If sun is coming from straight ahead makes a glare that is very difficult to see anything in front of you. Makes it difficult to see traffic lights or pedestrians which could cause dangerous harm to pedestrians, other drivers, or myself and passengers. Went to local Nissan dealer and was told the only fix would be to replace dashboard at my expense even though it is a common problem because there are no recalls on this issue. I purchased the vehicle used from another owner and was not aware of the problem and just thought it was something sticky that could be wiped off but found out it is a known problem when I went to dealer with issue.

WHILE DRIVING ON ROUTE 24 IN BROCKTON, MA ON 2/16/2020 AT APPROXIMATELY 1AM, THE HOOD OF MY CAR FLEW OFF AND COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM MY CAR. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO CONFIRM WHETHER ANOTHER DRIVER WAS NOT BEHIND ME AND TO LOOK AT MY CAR. THE LATCH OF THE HOOD WAS STILL IN PLACE AS WELL AS THE SPRINGS. MY DASH BOARD DID NOT INDICATE MY HOOD WAS OPEN. THIS ALL OCCURED WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING TOWARDS MY EXIT AT APPROXIMATELY 50-60 MPH.

TAKATA RECALL THE HOOD SHAKES TREMENDOUSLY WHEN SPEEDS ARE REACHED AT 70+. THE CAR SHAKES SO BAD THAT IT SEEMS AS IF THE HOOD IS GOING TO COME THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD IF YOU DON'T DECREASE YOUR SPEED. BOUGHT MY 2010 MAXIMA ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. AFTER DRIVING IT HOME I HEARD A HORRIBLE RATTLING IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND A CLATTERING IN THE FRONT END. THE DEALERSHIP HAD GIVEN ME A 3 MONTH WARRANTY SO I CONTACTED THEM THE SAME DAY I GOT THE CAR TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. AFTER CALLING THE DEALERSHIP 3 TO 4 TIMES A WEEK FOR 5 MONTHS, THEY FINALLY HAD ME BRING THE CAR IN. THE FIRST VISIT THEY REPLACED THE STEERING JOINT. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AND SEEMED WORSE THAN BEFORE. THE SECOND TIME I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR HAD A BAD RACK AND THAT THE PART WOULD BE IN IN 4 DAYS. 4 WEEKS LATER THEY FINALLY CHANGED THE RACK. WHAT WE ARE EXPERIENCING WITH OUR 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA VERY CLOSELY ALIGNS WITH THE SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALL CAMPAIGN ISSUED IN SEPTEMBER 2009 FOR THE 2010 MAXIMA. NISSAN HAS BEEN NOTIFIED, HOWEVER, THEY INSIST THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT A PART OF THIS FORMER CAMPAIGN. I STRUGGLE TO BELIEVE THIS AS IT'S JUST TOO IRONIC THAT EVERYTHING ALIGNS WITH THE FORMER. WE EXPERIENCE 3 PROBLEMS WITH THE SUSPENSION AND STEERING. 1.) AT MINIMAL SPEED MAINLY AT INITIAL ACCELERATION, WHEN TURNING SLOWLY, AND WHEN BRAKING AT SLOW SPEEDS YOU FEEL A JOLT IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND CAN HEAR A THUD OR CLUNK IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. 2.) WHEN THE CAR REACHES APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE STEERING COLUMN BOUNCES ERRATICALLY AND 3.) BOTH AT LOW SPEEDS AND HIGH SPEEDS THE CAR PULLS/VEERS TO THE RIGHT. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2013 AND CONTINUES TO OCCUR. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR INTO A NISSAN-AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY SAY NOTHING IS WRONG. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE HYUNDAI-AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND THEY SAY NOTHING IS WRONG. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO 4 ADDITIONAL, INDEPENDENT MECHANICS/TECHNICIANS AND THEY ALSO CANNOT GET TO THE "ROOT" OF THE PROBLEM WITHOUT HAVING THE CAR FOR AN UNREALISTIC AMOUNT OF TIME FOR DIAGNOSIS. I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO PURCHASE A LIFETIME ALIGNMENT AND BALANCING PACKAGE FROM A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AS WELL AS I HAD PURCHASED NEW WHEELS AND TIRES THINKING THAT WAS THE ISSUE. ON DECEMBER 27, 2013, I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 60 MPH. IN THE MIDST OF PASSING A VEHICLE, THE CAR STALLED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WHEN THEY RAN THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THEY TOLD ME EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND TO BRING IT BACK IF THE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED HER THAT THE WIRE HARNESS SYSTEM FAILED AND NEEDED TO REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. I WENT INTO MY CAR AND TRIED TO TURN IT ON ONLY TO SEE THE YELLOW KEY LIGHT UP ON THE DASH ALONG WITH MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKING UP ON ME. SO I CALL NISSAN THEY TRY TO GIVE ME A COUPLE TRICKS TO MAYBE GET THE STEERING WHEEL TO UNLOCK AND NOTHING WORKED, SO I HAD TO GET IT TOWED IN. THERE THEY SAID THE ELECTRONIC STEERING WHEEL LOCKED ON ME AND THERE WAS "NO SPECIFIC CAUSE" AS TO WHY THIS OCCURRED. AND THE REAL KICKER IS THAT MY CAR IS STILL COVERED UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY BUT THIS ISSUE ISN'T INCLUDED IN THAT WARRANTY SO I HAD TO PAY OVER $900 TO REPLACE IT. The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the front wheels. The stabili-trak and ABS warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the tire pressure warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed passenger’s side CV axle, cracked struts on the front driver's side and front passenger's side. In addition, the axle on the front driver's side would need to be replaced soon. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 260,000.

This is an on going safety problem. My father in law had this same vehicle and he was afraid to drive it because of the same issues.

The contact stated while attempting to open their front driver side door, but it would not open all the way locking in a place where there is a small space from the door and frame. The contact had to force and push the door back closed and attempt to reopen the door, but it would not open at all. The contact had to enter the vehicle from the front passenger side door. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who diagnosed the failure latch assembly was disconnected and repaired the latch assembly, however, the failure occurred again. NO ACTIVATION OF THE IGNITION SYSTEM. AFTER FOLLOWING ALL TROUBLE SHOOTING ADVICE IN THE CAR'S MANUAL, I TOWED THE CAR TO DEALER WHERE THEY FLAGGED AN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (PART# 487009N00B) AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS ALL PART OF THE VEHICLE ANTI-THEFT IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM. THE COST TO REPLACE THIS UNIT WAS $1041.17. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY FLAW IN THE 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA. THIS WAS A FULLY FUNCTIONING CAR (EXCEPT FOR ANTI-THEFT CIRCUIT GLITCH) THAT LEFT ME STRANDED IN A SITUATION WHERE MY CAR COULD HAVE BEEN TOWED BY THE CITY. NISSAN PROMOTES HOW SAFE, RELIABLE AND ECONOMICAL THEIR CARS ARE, BUT THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM CAN DISABLE THE VEHICLE LEAVING DRIVER STRANDED WITH ONLY ONE OPTION, WHICH IS, TO BE TOWED TO A DEALER BECAUSE OF ANT-THEFT SYSTEM GLITCHES. NISSAN MAXIMA 2010 - SPORT EDITION. THE CVT TRANSMISSION EXHIBITS SEVERE LOSE OF POWER ON 75MPH ROADWAY DRIVING BETWEEN PHOENIX AND FLAGSTAFF ARIZONA, UP ELEVATION. LACK OF POWER IS PRESENT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AS WELL. ON 75 MPH HIGHWAYS THE CVT BEGINS TO WHINE, THE ENGINE HAS HIGH RPM, LOUD WHINING NOISE FROM CVT, AND CAR GETS STUCK IN 6TH GEAR IN BOTH MANUAL SHIFT MODE AND DRIVE MODE. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE OR MAINTAIN SPEED WITH OTHER VEHICLES AT THE POSTED 75 MPH SPEED LIMIT. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT GIVE A CODE BUT ONCE GAVE A P1778 CODE - FAULTY SOLENOID OR STEP UP MOTOR. THIS ISSUE OCCURS FREQUENTLY WITHIN CITY DRIVING AS WELL, IN ADDITION TO HIGH SPEED HIGHWAYS ON LONG DRIVES OVER HILLY ROADS CLIMBING UP ELEVATION. IN CITY DRIVING THE CVT WILL NOT RESPOND WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED LEAVING THE VEHICLE IN THE CENTER OF TRAFFIC WHEN ENTERING A BUSY HIGHWAY. AT OTHER TIMES THE VEHICLE IS ABLE TO ACCELERATE DRAMATICALLY (NORMAL) TO THE SPEED OF CARS ON A BUSY MAIN STREET (55MPH). AND, THEN SUDDENLY THE CAR JUST LACKS POWER WHEN ENTERING A BUSY 3-4 LANE STREET (55 MPH) AND YOU FIND YOURSELF IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY 3-4 LANE STREET WITH APPROACHING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE IS BARELY ABLE TO GET ITSELF OUT OF THE WAY AT FULL THROTTLE. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORST AND DID NOT OCCUR WHEN THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW. CVT FLUID WAS CHANGED AT 44,000 MILES PRIOR TO NISSAN RECOMMENDATION. THIS CVT TRANSMISSION SUCKS AND THE DEALERSHIPS ARE GIVING CUSTOMERS A HARD TIME SINCE THE PROBLEM DOESN'T NOT GIVE A ENGINE TROUBLE CODE. ON THE TEST DRIVE I RODE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND COULD FEEL THE CAR MOVING TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT, THE SERVICE MGR SAID HE COULD FEEL IT ALSO BUT SAID THAT WAS BECAUSE OF THE CROWN IN THE ROAD. THIS PROBLEM BECOMES A SAFETY PROBLEM WHEN ON NARROW FOUR LANE ROADS, YOU MUST CONSTANTLY FIGHT THE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP THE CAR ON THE ROAD OR KEEP FROM RUNNING INTO THE CAR ON YOUR LEFT. I HAVE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD JUST HAVE TO GET USED TO THIS BECAUSE OF THE ELECTRONIC STEERING IS DIFFERENT FROM MY PREVIOUS CARS. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO ADJUSTMENT THAT COULD BE MADE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. I AM 70 YEARS OLD AND HAVE DRIVEN A FEW CARS IN MY TIME AND CAN TELL YOU THIS CAR SHOULD NOT DRIVE THE WAY IT DOES, IT IS JUST AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. IT FEELS AS IF THE CAR IS TRYING TO DRIVE ITSELF WITHOUT TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH OTHER VEHICLES WITH THE ELECTRONIC STEERING - IE: TOYOTA AND CHEVROLET AND JUST WONDERING IF THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME ELECTRONIC STEERING COMPONENTS.. I SENT NISSAN AN EMAIL OF MY CONCERN AND DISSATISFACTION BY THE DEALER SAYING NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ARE BLAMING THEIR PROBLEM ON THE CROWN IN THE ROADS!! *TR
