MY 2000 NISSAN PATHFINDER STARTED HANDLING BAD SO I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE CONTROL ARM BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE CONTROL ARM TO THE FRAME HAD TOTALLY RUSTED AWAY AND THE CONTROL ARM WAS NOT CONNECTED TO THE FRAME. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY FIXED A RUST PROBLEM ASSOCIATED WITH THE FRONT STRUT RECALL BUT DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE CONTROL ARM ISSUE. I CONTACTED [XXX] AT NISSAN NORTH AMERICA CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND SHE WAS OF NOW HELP AS SHE CONTINUALLY SAID THAT THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED AND SHE WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING ELSE. I WENT BACK TO BERMANS NISSAN IN CHICAGO WE PUT THE CAR ON THE LIFT AND THE SERVICE MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. HE TRIED TO GET HIS BOSS TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT HE WOULDN'T SO I'M STUCK WITH A CAR THAT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I SEE THAT FRAME RUST IS AN ISSUE FOR PATHFINDERS. ALSO, THERE IS ANOTHER COMPLAINT EXACTLY LIKE MINE PERTAINING TO THE PASSENGER SIDE CONTROL ARM CORROSION AND SEPARATING FROM THE FRAME. MY 2000 PATHFINDER STARTED TO SWAY BACK AND FORTH IN THE REAR OF THE CAR VIOLENTLY WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS THEN 45MPH AND ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE ARE TURNS IN THE ROAD OR FREEWAYS. REALLY HAPPENS ON FREEWAYS WHEN THERE IS A TURN TO THE LEFT AND THERE SEEMS TO BE THOSE BUMPS THAT BIG RIG TRUCKS SEEM TO MAKE IN SOME OF THE LANES. THE CAR STARTS SWAYING BACK AND FORTH IN THE REAR REAL BAD AND SEEMS LIKE THE CAR COULD FLIP OVER IF IN THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES! VERY SCARY! VERY UNSAFE!. This is in regards to a recall repair for the driver side strut tower. It has rusted out do to an improper recall repair.

I WAS DRIVING MY NISSAN INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN INSPECTION ON A RECALL IT WAS UNDER. I HIT A POTHOLE AND COULD NOT DRIVE OVER FORTY MILES AN HOUR. WHEN I GOT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY INFORMED ME MY FRAME WAS BROKE. THE DEALERSHIP DID THE RECALL REPAIRS AND SAID THEY COULDN'T REPAIR THE FRAME BECAUSE THE RUST WAS OUTSIDE THE RECALL AREA. I HAVE ONLY OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR A YEAR AND A HALF AND THERE IS NO WAY THAT IT RUSTED THIS BAD TO CAUSE THE FRAME TO BREAK. I FEEL THAT THE FRAME WAS FATIGUED AND IT SHOULD EITHER BE FIXED OR I SHOULD AT LEAST GET MARKET VALUE FOR MY VEHICLE THAT I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE DUE TO IT BEING UNSAFE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE FRONT END FRAME WAS RUSTED COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED DUE TO THE RUST FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,400.

I BELIEVE THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE STEPS ON THE SIDE OF THE SUV. THEY ARE IN THE SHAPE OF TUBES, AND HAVE RUSTED OUT. I HAD THEM REMOVED, AS THE RUSTED STEPS COULD NO LONGER SUPPORT A PERSON'S WEIGHT. I HAVE NOTICED THAT ALL 2000 PATHFINDERS WITH THE STEP TUBES ARE EITHER RUSTED OUT, OR HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH A DIFFERENT DESIGN THAT DOES NOT ALLOW FOR WATER TO GET INTO THE TUBES AND CREATE RUST. *TR

I JUST FOUND ACTION NUMBER PE11004 AND WOULD LIKE TO REPORT THAT A SIMILAR PROBLEM HAS JUST HAPPENED TO MY 2000 PATHFINDER (117,000 MILES). I HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT STRUT AREA AND WHEN I AND A MECHANIC LOOKED THERE WAS A VISIBLE, LARGE HORIZONTAL CRACK EXTENDING IN BOTH DIRECTIONS IN WHAT THEY DESCRIBED AS THE SIDE MEMBER BEHIND THE STRUT TOWER. IN THE COURSE OF ABOUT A WEEK THE CRACK GOT NOTICEABLY LARGER AND THE CAR IS NOW NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND THERE IS NO REASON THAT THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. THE STEERING ROAD IS NOW RESTING AGAINST THE FRAME AS DESCRIBED IN THE NOTED ACTION. TWO MECHANICS HAVE NOW SAID THAT THIS IS HAZARDOUS AND THE CAR IS NEITHER SAFE TO DRIVE NOR REPAIRABLE IN THEIR OPINION, GIVEN THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR

MY FIRST PROBLEM IS WITH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ON THE DASHBOARD. WHEN DRIVING AT LOW OR HI GH SPEED THE ENTIRE CLUSTER WOULD STOP WORKING FOR A FEW MINUTES OR HOURS, AND THE CAR WOULD LOSE POWER, AND SUDDENLY IT WOULD START WORKING AGAIN. THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER ALMOST CAUSE A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT ON TURNPIKE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, AND THA CIRCUIT BOARD WAS REPLACED. MY LATEST PROBLEM IS THE SECURITY/DOOR LOCK SYSTEM. I TOOK MY VEHICLE FOR A RECALL FREE OF CHARGE. THE NISSAN DEALER SAID THAT THEY CANNOT REPAIR IT BECAUSE IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE AND THE CARD DOES NOT WORTH IT. THEY REFUSE TO GIVE MY CAR BACK BECAUSE THEY SAID BY THE LAW THEY CANNOT GIVE IT BACK WITHOUT REPAIR IT. IT HAS BEEN 2 WEEKS ALREADY. THEY SCREWED EVERYTHING BECAUSE I NEED MY CAR TO WORK. MECHANICAL RECALL OF NOVEMBER 2011 WAS NEVER COMPLETED PROPERLY. ON OR ABOUT DEC. 21, 2014, THE STEERING COLUMN BROKE WHILE MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER WERE IN THE CAR. MY MECHANIC INSPECTED THE CALL AFTER THE INCIDENT. HE IS WILLING TO SUBMIT AN AFFIDAVIT STATING THAT THE RECALL WAS NEVER PROPERLY COMPLETED. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, I AM WRITING THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU FOR HELP WITH A RECALL NOTICE I RECEIVED FROM NISSAN NORTH AMERICA. CURRENTLY I OWN A 2000 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FUEL FILTER TUBE WHICH I HAD RECENTLY HAD REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS LEAKING JUST LIKE THE RECALL NOTICE STATED WOULD HAPPEN. I CALLED NISSAN AND FAXED THEM MY RECEIPTS FOR THE PARTS & LABOR. I WAS TOLD I WOULD RECEIVE A REFUND FOR THE AMOUNT THAT I PAID. THIS ALL STARTED 4-17-2008 AND THE LAST PHONE CALL I MADE WAS 8-12-2008. NISSAN SENT ME THE LOCAL DEALERSHIPS TO GET MY PATHFINDER LOOKED AT TO MAKE SURE THE WORK WAS DONE CORRECTLY BECAUSE I HAD THE WORK DONE AT AN INDEPENDENT DEALERSHIP. ONLY BECAUSE THERE WEREN?T ANY AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIPS IN THE AREA WHEN MY CAR STARTED LEAKING GAS. FINALLY I TALKED TO HEIDI FRANK ON 7-8-2008 A MANGER IN CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SHE TOLD ME THAT I WOULD GET REFUNDED THE FULL AMOUNT PLUS 45.00 TOWING FEE. I NO LONGER CAN GET A HOLD OF HER. I FAXED ALL MY RECEIPTS AND THE PROOF THAT I WENT TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. I HAVE LEFT SEVERAL MESSAGES AND CAN NOT GET A HOLD OF HER. I AM HOPING THAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HELP ME. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER 2000 NISSAN QUEST, WHEN THE CAR CONTINUED TO IDLE AT ABOUT 1200 RPMS AND WOULD NOT COME DOWN WHEN SHE LET UP ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE VAN HAD TO BE TOWED TO OUR MECHANIC, AND THE MECHANIC STATED THE IDLE AIR MOTOR WAS STUCK AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. RECALL R1107 PERTAINS TO INTERSTATE TOWERS. WERE REPAIRED HAD IN SHOP FROM DEC 22 2011 - JAN 4 2012. COMPLAINT: WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PROPERLY REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. AFTER I INSPECTED MY VEHICLE I FOUND THAT THEY PLATED THE LEFT SIDE, AND THEY LEFT A HOLE IN THE FRAME RAIL. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FILL A HOLE WITHOUT BEING HELD LIABLE. RIGHT SIDE WAS JUST SPRAYED WITH UNDERCOAT. PICTURE SHOWS UNDERCOAT INSIDE OF FRAME RAIL BADLY ROTTED OUT AND NO REPAIRS MADE. ALSO THERE IS A 6" HOLE IN RIGHT REAR FRAME RAIL AROUND SPRING MOUNT WHICH IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN OTHER PATHFINDERS. I HAD A 1992 PATHFINDER THAT UPPER FRAME RAIL ROTTED OUT AND UPPER TRAILING ARM MOUNTS RIPPED OUT OF FRAME AND REAR END WAS RIPPED LOOSE. NISSAN SAID OUR 2000 PATHFINDER CLAIM HAS BEEN CLOSED (SATISFIED) AND WE HAVE NO RECOURSE. WE FEEL NISSAN SHOULD BUY THIS VEHICLE FROM US UNDER THEIR LEVEL THREE PLAN. WE JUST PAID THIS VEHICLE OFF AND BOUGHT IT FROM THE DEALER FIVE YEARS WHO DID ALL THE MAINTENANCE WORK ON IT PRIOR TO US BUYING IT AND THIS VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. TRANSMISSION FAILURE. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE PATHFINDER AND WITHOUT WARNING, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. IT WOULD NOT MOVE EITHER FORWARDS OR BACKWARDS. WE TOWED THE VEHICLE AND UPON INSPECTION BY REPUTABLE TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST, WERE TOLD TWICE BY TWO DIFFERENT INSPECTION SHOPS THAT THE COOLER THAT COOLS THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS 1) DEFECTIVE AND 2) STOPPED UP AND PREVENTED THE TRANSMISSION FROM GETTING PROPER FLUID FLOW. THE TRANSMISSION SHOPS STATED THAT THEY HAVE ADVISED NISSAN OF THIS ISSUE NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAVE REPAIRED THIS ISSUE ON OTHER CARS NUMEROUS TIMES. THE FAILURE CAUSED US TO TOW THE CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP WITH ESTIMATED REPAIR COSTS OF $3,000. BECAUSE THE FLUID FROM THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT BEING PROPERLY HANDLED, THE PARTS INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION BECAME OVER HEATED AND WERE PERMANENTLY DAMAGED. THERE HAS BEEN NO UNUSUAL USAGE OF THE VEHICLE. WE HAVE NOT USED IT FOR TOWING OR TRANSPORT OF HEAVY OR CORROSIVE MATERIALS. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENTS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED PER THE MANUFACTURER REQUIREMENTS. WHEN NOT IN USE, THE VEHICLE IS STORED IN A GARAGE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REGULARLY EVALUATED AND INSPECTED BY NISSAN MECHANICS DURING THE FREE INSPECTIONS OFFERED BY NISSAN DEALERSHIPS. THEY NEVER REPORTED ANY SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. ABOUT A MONTH AGO, WE DEVELOPED A NOISE IN THE FRONT END WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE. WE TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP FOR AN EVALUATION. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT A PORTION OF THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY CORRODED AND HAD CRACKED. I IMMEDIATELY REQUESTED THAT THEY INSPECT THE REST OF THE FRAME FOR CORROSION. THEY REFUSED AND TOLD ME THAT ANY REPAIR WOULD HAVE TO BE MADE BY A BODY SHOP. THEY SAID THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. . AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE I IMMEDIATELY DROVE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP FOR EVALUATION AND REPAIR. THE AUTO BODY SHOP REMOVED THE ENGINE FROM THE VEHICLE AND INSPECTED THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS APPROXIMATELY 86,520 MILES AND THE TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED YESTERDAY (8/3/08). TWO OF THE TIRES WERE AT THE LIMIT FOR BEING LEGAL ON THE ROAD. THE COILS HAD BEEN REPLACED IN 2001 WHEN THE CAR HAD 30,000 MILES ON IT. I READ THERE SERVICE BOOKLET AND NO WHERE DOES IT SAY TO HAVE THE COILS REPLACED EVERY 30,000MILES. WHEN THE DEALER REPLACED THE COILS AT 30,000MILES HE SAID THAT NISSAN HAD SOME DEFECTIVE COILS AND THEY DID THE UNDER WARRANTY BUT THIS TIME IT COSTS ME $611.65 AS THEY SAID THEY ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY ANY LONGER. TOOK CAR FOR REGULAR SCHEDULE MAINTENANCE TO PLACE I BROUGHT MY CAR WHICH IS AUTOTECH NISSAN AT 622 WEST 5TH STREET NYC, NY 10019. I HEARD A RUBBING SOUND AND THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT BRAKE WAS ACTING UNUSUAL SO I TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY MECHANIC ASSUMING IT NEEDED BRAKES. THERE WAS A EXTREMELY LARGE HOLE BEING THE WHEEL AREA. LOOKING FURTHER IT WAS NOTED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS RUBBING AGAINST A PART OF THE ENGINE AREA. THAT EXPLAINS THE RUBBING SOUND AND DIFFUCULTY TURNING THE WHEEL. IT WAS ALSO NOTED THAT THE SUSPENSION WAS ROTTED AND THAT THE ENGINE MEASURED AROUND 2 INCHES LOWER AS IT WAS LEANING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. I WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THAT THE DAMAGE WAS SO EXTENSIVE THAT IT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THERE WASN'T ANY METAL AVAILABLE UNDER THE TRUCK TO EVEN WELD ANY REINFORCEMENT TO. THE TRUCK WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND TO TAKE IT TO NISSAN. WE NEVER WENT ANY FURTHER WITH AN INSPECTION OF THE PASSENGER SIDE ECT. I DID TAKE IT TO NISSAN IN THE AFTERNOON AND WAS CALLED THE FOLLOWING MORNING AND TOLD MY TRUCK WAS FIXED. I OWN A 2000 NISSAN PATHFINDER LE, WITH 149,000 MILES, WHICH IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. TUES 7/27/10, WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, I LOST STEERING CONTROL. FIND STEERING COLUMN IS SNAPPED. TOW TO MECHANIC, WHO DISCOVERS THE SHOCK TOWER, WHICH IS PART OF THE FRAME (UNI-BODY DESIGN), HAS SHEARED AWAY FROM THE REST OF THE WHEEL-WELL. THE SHOCK TOWER HAS PUSHED UP INTO THE STEERING COLUMN, CAUSING IT TO BREAK. MECHANIC GAVE ESTIMATE OF $640.00 FOR STEERING, AND AT LEAST $1700.00 FOR THE WHEEL-WELL, WHICH IS A BODY SHOP REPAIR. ALSO SUGGESTED TO CALL NISSAN TO SEE IF THERE A RECALL ON WHEEL-WELLS AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND IS NOT THE FIRST TIME HE HAS HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, IT IS A DESIGN FLAW. CONTROL ARMS JUST BELOW TEARING IN FRAME, IF TEARING CONTINUED, WHEEL COULD ALSO BECOME DISLODGED, IN ADDITION TO LOSS OF STEERING. 2000 NISSAN PATHFINDER WITH MULTIPLE FRONT END PROBLEMS. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE DEALER REPLACED THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR AND DID NOT REPACK THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS. THEN THE FUEL INJECTOR MADE THE VEHICLE SHAKE. *KB THE WATER PUMP WAS LEAKING, THE CRANK SHAFT PULLEY WAS LOOSE AND THE FRONT WHEELS WERE LOOSE.

ROUGH IDLE PROMPTED ME TO TAKE THE CAR INTO A MECHANIC. AFTER IT WAS HOOKED UP TO THE COMPUTER I WAS TOLD THE O2 SENSORS WERE TELLING MY COMPUTER TO RUN THE GAS LEAN AND THE COMPUTER WAS TELLING MY O2 SENSORS TO RUN LEANER. AT THAT TIME MY CAR HAD ONLY 52,000 MILES AND I KNOW THE O2 SENSORS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD FOR UP TO ABOUT 80,000. NOTING WAS DONE AND THE CARE CONTINUES TO HAVE THE ROUGH IDLE AS IF IT WANTS TO DIE. I HAVE PUT ABOUT $2K INTO IT TRYING TO FIX POSSIBLE PROBLEMS AND FEEL IF IT IS AN O2 SENSOR PROBLEM AND THE CAR IS UNDER 80,000 MILES IT IS A DEFECT. *NM

I EVEN BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY(GOLD POWERTRAIN)TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE. IN JUNE OF THIS YEAR I HAD TO HAVE A SHIFTER ASSEMBLY AT A COST OF $670.83, THEN IN JULY I HAD TO HAVE MY BOLT-WHEEL HUB REPLACED AT A COST OF $52.52. NOW THIS MONTH I HAVING TO REPLACE THE DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY AT A COST OF $212.32 THAT'S A TOTAL OF $935.67 IN LESS THAN 9 MONTHS SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR.THREE MONTHS IN A ROW ON REPAIRS.AND TO TOP IT OFF MY WARRANTY COVERS NOTHING.THIS CAR HAS NOT PROVEN TO ME TO BE RELIABLE.I'M A SINGLE MOM WITH A SON IN COLLEGE AND I BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR MY SON BECAUSE OF ITS REPUTATION.I WOULD APPRECIATE IF NISSAN WOULD REFUND ME SOME OF MY EXPENSES.I CAN PROVIDE RECEIPTS.THANK YOU.*AK

MY SIXTEEN YEAR OLD SON ALONG WITH MY SEVEN YEAR OLD SON WERE DRIVING MY CAR WHEN CAR STARTED WOBBLING, HE LOST CONTROL GOING APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES AN HOUR, OVER CORRECTED AND WENT HEAD FIRST INTO TREES AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. FORTUNATELY MY SONS WERE WEARING SEATBELTS AND DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY MAJOR INJURIES, JUST BUMPS AND BRUISES. THE CAR THEN HIT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AFTER THE FRONTAL IMPACT THEN HIT ON THE REAR. MY CAR WAS TOTALED. AT NO TIME DID THE AIR BAG ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DEPLOY. IF NOT FOR THE SEAT BELTS, MY CHILDREN COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED AND MY SON DRIVING DID HIT THE STEERING WHEEL, AND THE AIR BAG WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS HAD IT DEPLOYED. I HAVE HAD TWO INCIDENTS OF SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE AT LOW SPEEDS.
