How to read a Nissan Pathfinder VIN — every digit explained

Every Nissan Pathfinder carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.

FIG.02
1–3 · WMI1HG
4–8 · VDSCM826
9 · Check5
10 · YearR
11 · PlantA
12–17 · Serial004352
  • WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. Tells you it's a Nissan and the country it was built in.
  • VDS (4–8) — model, body style, engine, trim & restraints. The 8th digit is the engine code.
  • Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
  • Model year (10) — the year it was built (e.g. R = 2024, S = 2025).
  • Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Pathfinder.
  • Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
17 CHARS·SOURCE SAE / ISO 3779

Model-year code (10th digit)

The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:

H2017 J2018 K2019 L2020 M2021 N2022 P2023 R2024 S2025 T2026

Where to find your Pathfinder VIN

  • Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
  • Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
  • Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
  • Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

Air Bags:frontal10V312000

What's wrong. Nissan is recalling forty-six certain model year 2002 pathfinder and infiniti qx4 vehicles manufactured from august 24, 2001 through august 28, 2001. The air bag inflator contains propellant wafers that are required to properly deploy the front passenger air bag. Due to improper propellant wafer installation during the air bag inflator assembly process, some air bag inflators may be missing one of the wafers. As a result, the remaining wafers in the inflator used for the deployment of the front passenger air bag may, over time, break up into powder due to normal vibration experienced while driving. This causes the combustion rate of the propellant to increase inside the inflator, which can lead to internal pressure rising suddenly during air bag deployment.

Risk. The inflator housing may rupture and pieces of the inflator could strike and injure vehicle occupants.

Fix. Nissan will notify the owners of the forty-six affected vehicles. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag module assembly with a new one free of charge. The safety recall began on august 19, 2010. Owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261 and infiniti at 1-800-662-6200.

Exterior Lighting09E012000

What's wrong. Sabersport is recalling 16,270 combination corner and bumper lamp assemblies of various part numbers sold for use as aftermarket equipment for various passenger vehicles. These headlamps fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment." these lamps do not contain the required amber side reflectors.

Risk. Decreased lighting visibility may result in a vehicle crash.

Fix. Sabersport will notify owners and offer a full refund for the noncompliant combination lamps. The safety recall began on may 11, 2009. Owners may contact sabersport at 1-909-598-7589.

Steering:column11V244000

What's wrong. Nissan is recalling certain model year 1996-2004 pathfinder and model year 1997-2003 infiniti qx4 vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in, connecticut, delaware, iowa, illinois, indiana, massachusetts, maine, maryland, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, washington d.c., west virginia and wisconsin. In areas of the country in which heavy concentrations of road salt are used, a mixture of snow/water and salt may enter an assembly location hole in the upper strut housing, causing water to collect at the mating surface of the strut housing panel and the inner hood ledge assembly. Over time, this snow/water and salt intrusion may result in corrosion of the strut tower housing in some subject vehicles.

Risk. The strut housing may crack and pull away from the inner hood ledge assembly. This may lead to grinding noises, increased steering effort, and possibly the steering column to break, resulting in the loss of steering control, which could result in a crash.

Fix. Nissan will inspect the strut housing and repair the vehicles as necessary, free of charge. An interim notification letter was sent out in may 2011. The second notice was mailed on july 25, 2011. Owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

Air Bags15V287000

What's wrong. Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2001-2003 Nissan Maxima, 2002-2004 Pathfinder, 2002-2006 Sentra, 2002-2003 Infiniti QX4 and I35, 2003 FX35 and FX45, and 2001 I30 vehicles. Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.

Risk. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

Fix. Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on June 15, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. Note: On December 18, 2015 Nissan informed NHTSA of an amendment of this recall to remove 2004-2005 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 vehicles.

Air Bags:frontal:passenger Side:inflator Module17V068000

What's wrong. Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2002 Pathfinder and Infiniti QX4 vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with Takata air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front air bags, these inflators may rupture.

Risk. An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Fix. Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag assembly, free of charge. The recall began on March, 31, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

Air Bags:frontal:passenger Side:inflator Module20V008000

What's wrong. Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2001-2003 Maxima, 2002-2006 Sentra, 2002-2004 Pathfinder, 2007-2011 Versa Sedan and Versa Hatchback, 2001-2004 Infiniti I30 and I35, 2002-2003 Inifiniti QX4, 2003-2008 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 and 2006-2010 M35 and M45 vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with non-desiccated, frontal passenger air bag inflators containing phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant that were used as interim remedy parts for previous Takata recalls. These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

Risk. An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Fix. Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflators with alternate desiccated inflators, free of charge. The recall began February 12, 2020. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 888-737-9511 or Infiniti customer service at 888-810-3715.

1996 Nissan Pathfinder recalls 5

Steering:gear Box (other Than Rack And Pinion)96V034000

What's wrong. Due to the type of lubricant used in the steering transfer gear assembly, the effort required to turn the steering wheel at low ambient temperatures (less than -30 c) could increase to the point where some drivers would have difficulty in turning the wheel.

Risk. This condition could result in the inability to change the direction of the vehicle while attempting to turn the wheel, increasing the potential for a vehicle accident.

Fix. Dealers are replacing the steering transfer gear assembly with a new assembly having different lubricant.

Service Brakes, Hydraulic:pedals And Linkages96V031000

What's wrong. Due to the thickness of the carpet padding on the transmission tunnel, the space between the brake pedal and the transmission tunnel could catch a driver's right foot under the brake pedal.

Risk. This condition could inhibit a driver from applying the brakes, increasing the risk of a vehicle accident.

Fix. Dealers will remove the carpet padding on the transmission tunnel adjacent to the accelerator pedal.

Exterior Lighting06E026000

What's wrong. Certain pro-a motors corner lamps, turn signals, and headlights sold as replacement lamps for use on certain passenger vehicles listed above. Some combination lamps that are not equipped with amber side reflectors fail to conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.

Risk. Without the amber reflectors, the vehicle will be poorly illuminated, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash without warning.

Fix. Pro-a motors will notify owners and offer to repurchase the lamps. The recall began on april 3, 2006. Owners may contact pro-a motors at 323-838-2988.

Exterior Lighting06E049000

What's wrong. Certain ck motorsports combination headlights, clear corner, bumper, and side marker lights sold as replacement lamps for use on the passenger vehicles listed above. Seat Belts:front:buckle Assembly95V103002

What's wrong. The front safety belt buckle release buttons can break. These red plastic release buttons are marked "press." if a button breaks, pieces can fall into the buckle assembly causing the buckle to operate improperly.

Risk. The safety belts would not provide adequate protection to an occupant in a vehicle crash.

Fix. Owners should promptly check the condition and operation of both front safety belt buckles and carefully inspect the red release button for any breaks or cracks. They should ensure that both buckles are operating properly by inserting each latch plate into its buckle, tugging on the belt to make sure the latch is securely locked, and then pressing the release button. The latch plate should pop out of the buckle when the button is pressed. If either release button shows a sign of breaking or cracking or if either buckle fails to operate properly, owners should promptly contact their authorized dealer to schedule an appointment to have the buckle replaced or repaired free of charge.

Rear axle disconnected from the differential while traveling at highway speed of 50 mph. Wheel with brake system and axle which continue across median strip onto oncoming traffic. Dealer was notified, and is refusing to pay for repairs. *ak *ml

2006 Pathfinder

Dt*: the contact stated while the vehicle was parked in the driveway, a popping noise was heard. While the vehicle was rolling backward, a ticking noise was heard. It rolled out of the driveway and clipped another vehicle causing minor damage. The vehicle came to rest across the street from the contact's driveway. A passenger had a minor injury to the arm. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who could not identify the problem. Updated 10/30/06. *jb

2018 Pathfinder

As we were driving on the highway about 70 miles per hour, no traffic relatively, the vehicle started to violently shake and then we heard a loud explosion in the front end, prompting the front drive and passenger airbags to deploy, as well as the full right side curtain airbags. This curtain airbag struck my wife in the head and prompted her apple watch to call 911. we initally thought we popped a tire or ran over something but no damaged at all visible to the car. even the state trooper was baffled by the situation as emergency personnel arrived. the car was not driven home so when the tow facility assessed the vehicle even he was baffled and assumed perhaps the explosion happened in the front end inside the cvt transmission. the officer on site stated this couldve ended horribly with us going the normal speed on the highway but somehow we were guided safely to the side of the road.

2018 Pathfinder

The 4x4 never stays engaged. We live in an area where it snows A LOT and depend on the 4x4 for winter driving. We purchased the vehicle brand new and it had this issue. We reported it to the dealership when the vehicle had less than 500 miles on it, within the first few weeks of ownership. They couldn't figure out what was wrong. They sent someone from corporate to look at the vehicle. They found and replaced a cracked coupler. (Our vehicle was sold to us with a MAJOR broken part.) The 4x4 still wouldn't remain engaged. I kept taking it back to the dealership every few months. Nothing. Finally they sent a corporate mechanic out to look at the vehicle. He told me the 4x4 will never stay engaged because 'the drive train is set up to protect itself and the 4x4 is only to get out of a jam", and then told me it is not to be used for driving in snow. I asked why they sold these vehicles as safe for snow. He told me they don't anymore because they have realized they are not safe. So now I am stuck with a vehicle that isn't safe to drive. We purchsed a Tesla that day, January 28, 2022 and while waiting for it to arrive the transmission now went out on the vehicle. Nissan refuses to fix it claiming we are over the warranty miles. So not only is this vehicle not safe for snow and chain control (according to their mechanic) it can't be fixed. Is the NHTSB aware that Nissan Corporate Mechanics are telling people their 4x4 vehicles are not true 4x4 vehicle even though they were sold that way? In the past 4 years I have slid into snowbanks numerous times at low (under 25mph) speeds because the 4x4 does not remain engaged. Many times my children are in the vehicle. There have also been numerous times when I have slid due to the 4x4 not staying engaged where I have almost hit others. I have put my life and others lives in danger thinking my 'Auto' was making sure my vehicle was in 4x4, even though the mechanics assure me it wasn't and I was actually in 2-wheel drive.

2009 Pathfinder

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan pathfinder. The contact stated that the vehicle was at stand still at a parking lot, when entering the vehicle, it began to move forward while the gear was in park. The contact stated she depressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The contact stated she injured her leg while entering the vehicle. The contact did not seek any medical attention. The contact stated that she was unable to start the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic however, he advised the contact he could not do anything with the vehicle. The contact called local dealer bayou nissan (13050 i-10 service rd, new orleans, la 70128, (504) 245-5900) and scheduled a diagnostic appointment. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 11,300. *dt*dt vehicle repaired*jb

2008 Pathfinder

On november 6, 2015 around or about 7:00pm my v6 2008 nissan pathfinder service engine light turned on while in first gear in mostion; the suv engine and transmission turned off had no brakes and had a fender bender while in motion , had the suv towed home and checked the code on the obd and it read code: u1000 controller area network (can) communcation line sigal malfunction.did a visual check inside radiator filler port, electrical fuse (10amp fuse to the transmission blew which atomcticly told me a communication harness is open or shorted; or a faulty engine control module(ecm))and also checked the resivor filler port, found red transmission fluid and green engine coolent fluid incorporated in radiator (contamination) ,also checked transmission dip stick to see if transmisson fluids low but instead found rust at the end part of the dipstick inside the transmisson indicating engine coolent contamination (water) all inside the transmission.who know how much rust is inside the transmission until a full tear down and thorough inspection is performed.....car is stationary and will not start

2007 Pathfinder

Radiator transmission coolant leak. Radiator fluid leaked into the transmission and transmission fluid leak into the radiator due to a faulty radiator coolant line. Transmission is now slipping at third gear. Nissan dealer quote to replace both radiator and transmission $6,600 change. *tr

2007 Pathfinder

I noticed my vehicles transmission slipping when i was driving it around 3rd to 4th gear. Further review found that my vehicles radiator coolant is leaking into my transmission. The radiator fluid is leaking into transmission and transmission fluid is leaking and mixing in my radiator. *tr

2007 Pathfinder

The coolant has mixed up with the transmission fluid, and it is having problems with shifting. I done some research online, and found out that this a major issue with nissan and they are not willing to fix this issue. It says that there a hose leak issue into the transmission. Now m car is sitting i n my driveway, dead. *tr

2007 Pathfinder

I request that the dot nhtsa investigate manufacturer defects in 2007 nissan pathfinders cooling system and transmission as unexpected failure relates to driver safety. My 2007 pathfinder with 90,000 miles caused a major collision with a deer as the transmission began to fail. Driving home, at around 40mph, up a hill (engine under load @ 2,200-2,500 rpm) the whole car began suddenly to "shudder"- similar to the feeling/ sound of riding over highway rumble strips. This resulted in a loss of control over the speed of the vehicle and a noticeable distraction leaving me unprepared as a large buck ran out from the tree line attempting to cross the road- the buck did not make it across. As i have found in my research afterwards, there is a widely known manufacturer defect in which engine coolant mixes with transmission fluid. The resulting "goop" shreds the internal parts of the transmission rendering it (along with the radiator and components) completely useless. These vehicles are unsafe for the roadways as this problem occurs suddenly and unexpectedly without warning. I consider myself lucky for being alive- now, but since nissan nor any other organization is willing to recall or replace this vehicle/ affected parts, i am stuck, forced to drive on the road being a hazard to others and myself. *tr

1995 Pathfinder

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 25mph uphill, the carpet around the gear shift suddenly erupted into flames. The flames were extinguished by the driver with water and the authorities were not contacted. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home and later transferred to the insurance agency for inspection. Upon inspection it was determined the heat shield was missing from the catalytic converter and the floor board in that area was completely rusted through allowing extreme heat to contact the carpet. The contact is concerned about the dealer selling the vehicle without first inspecting for safety problems. The rust could have easily been viewed by simply inspecting the undercarriage.

2018 Pathfinder

The contact owns a 2018 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. The failure persisted, and there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine with the check engine warning light illuminated. In addition, the vehicle hesitated while starting the vehicle and pressing the Push to Start button. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where a diagnostic test was performed, and the contact was informed that there was sludge in the engine oil. The mechanic stated that sludge was found in the oil due to a lack of regular oil changes. The contact disputed the claim and provided receipts that all oil changes were up to date. The contact had the engine taken apart by the dealer and an independent mechanic, and both discovered metal shavings inside the engine, which had resulted in the engine failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was repaired by the independent mechanic. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.

2010 Pathfinder

No incident has occurred to date. However, i also do not like gambling with my family and their lives. Our 2010 nissan pathfinder is the primary vehicle for my family. The reported issues with failing radiator and transmission must be addressed to prevent loss of life. Nissan recognizes the issue and the best they could do to date is to issue an extended warranty coverage. That is not good enough. Please step in and enforce a safety recall on those vehicles. Prevention is called for in this instance. I have discussed this with nissan corporate and logged a case number with them. *tr

My 2018 Nissan Pathfinder SL has had to have the engine replaced once due to the CVP issues with the transmission causes in the engine to fail. It was replaced not even two years ago and now the issue has presented itself yet again and the engine has failed once again. I believe that this vehicle should be issued for recall because this is an issue that has happened twice engine has failed twice car will not run. Will not turn over vehicle is at a standstill. I want somebody to contact me regarding this because this is not acceptable.

On May 7th at 1:22 PM, the engine in my 2018 Nissan Pathfinder catastrophically failed for the second time while my family was driving. The engine completely lost power in the middle of a very busy highway intersection, going over an overpass, where there was no shoulder. I had no ability to pull off the road. My wife had to push the disabled vehicle off the highway to avoid causing a major accident. This was an incredibly dangerous situation where my entire family’s life was at risk. My wife could have been struck by oncoming traffic while we were pushing the vehicle to safety. There was no protection or space to safely move out of traffic. This is the second catastrophic engine failure on this vehicle. The first engine failed just over two years prior and was replaced by the dealership. Despite the replacement, the second engine also failed, repeating the same critical failure that Nissan Pathfinders from this model year are widely known to experience. There were no prior warning lamps or engine codes during this incident. The engine immediately lost power and locked up while in motion. This vehicle was properly maintained, and all scheduled services were performed by licensed service providers. Additional Supporting Evidence: •Incident Date: May 7th at 1:22 PM •Photos of the disabled vehicle on the side of the highway provided. •Screenshot of text message conversation at the time of the incident (attached). •This failure is consistent with multiple NHTSA complaints, owner reports, class-action lawsuits, and technical service bulletins regarding systemic engine failures in the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder.

The disabled vehicle when delivered by flatbed car hauler unit to the nearest dealership, Petro Nissan, 47 miles from the breakdown site would not move at highway speed but only jerked/bucked and crept along at little more than a fast walk. This condition was last experienced when the vehicle had been on a remote undulating interstate for about 2 hours. The check engine light had reappeared after being recently reset and the engine revving and loss of ground speed started causally then increased in frequency and intensity until totally failing to the point of forcing me to creep with emergency flashers in mode on the shoulder to reach an exit two miles ahead. The high RPM revving coupled with the ground speed loss condition initial stages occurred each of the two prior days. Two Nissan NA dealerships in those two days had performed diagnostics and service. On each prior day the check engine light, the high revving engine RPM, and the ground speed loss occurred. On each day a potentially serious safety issue arose. Initially an attempt to match speed and merge with traffic at an onramp and again when (using cruise control) during which the vehicle system attempted an automatic acceleration to maintain speed on rolling hills. Both conditions forced me to the shoulder to avoid a potential accident from immediate and drastic ground speed loss and engine revving at or above 4500 RPM After each of these incidents a Nissan NA dealership was consulted and services were performed. In each case I postulated to the service advisors that the transmission sounded/felt like it was slipping on acceleration when the vehicle/ transmission had heated up from extended driving. Both days service advisors checked for diagnostic codes of transmission issues but never mentioned emission issues aside from mass air flow sensor or ABS sensors apparently either not seeing or not looking beyond transmission related codes. The first dealer, Illini Nissan, ran diagnostics on 1/6/25,

The engine began to fail because of a lack of adequate breathability into the crankcase, causing high crankcase pressure, excessive oil blowby, severe exhaust smoke, severe engine sludge, severe engine shuddering, and lack of response to the power steering because of engine power loss. The failure of the PCV system was at fault. Produced codes P0300, P0306, and P0430. Engine sludge needed to be cleaned, PCV hoses and PCV needed to be replaced, spark plugs needed to be replaced because of blowby, and valve covers also needed to be replaced because of sludge clogging the PCV baffles within the valve covers.

I bought a 2018 Nissan Pathfinder august of 2022 from miller and miller Chevrolet in Marianna FL. I noticed the very next day after purchasing the vehicle that there was smoke coming from the tailpipe. This occurred everytime I cracked it. I took videos and pictures and sent it to my sales rep. I took it to them three times trying to get them to figure out the issue and fix it but they were unable to detect any issues. January of 2023 my Engine completely failed I had to have it towed to the dealership. They said that some rode camshaft broke. The mechanic told me that the engine was full of metal shavings. So they replaced the entire with a used low mileage engine that failed the day I picked it up 3/20/23 . I'm told that a used engine is what they are putting in it again that they (the warranty company Zurich) will not put a new one in it. I am a bartender and got to talking about this with a regular and it so happens that his wife has the same 2018 Nissan Pathfinder and he said the had the exact same problem. Their engine failed at 57,000 miles. He had to pay $15000 to put a new engine in it. I really feel like this is a manufacturing defect and should be recalled and made right. Thank you. *tr

My husband roger and i purchased a 2018 nissan pathfinder less than a week ago at granite nissan in rapid city, sd. We drove to dickinson, nd to drop off my stepson to see his mother as required by court order every month. The trip there has no cellular service and temperatures that reach subzero. Upon arriving in dickinson, we had the check engine light come on while driving approximately 65 mph and the rpms became erratic. We also noticed decreased fuel efficiency. The light came on with less than 400 total miles on the vehicle. We consulted the user manual which advised to drive the car to the dealership with the check engine light remaining on. Unfortunately, when we received the notification of ready for pick up, there was no resolve. The serviceman claimed that it was an issue 'currently being investigated by nissan'. He said they cleared the error and that we will notice less efficiency with gas mileage and stated the vehicle wouldn't breakdown but was unsure of what may happen. We purchased this brand new vehicle to better ensure a safe means to drive in desolate areas and in extreme weather conditions while monthly tranporting our son for visitation. The service technician was dismissive/belittled our concerns when asking about safety, especially with the special circumstances and that we have a one year old and six year old who ride daily in the car in addition to our 14 year old who takes the monthly trips to nd. We are waiting for nissan to reply with when and how the error code p34a9, intake timing control will be fixed and if damage to the engine or other parts of the vehicle while this error occurs. If we are stranded in desolate nd in extreme temperatures, our lives will be at risk as even if the 'sos' feature were to be pressed, the nearest emergency responders are hours away. We've inquired with nissan about the safety of this 2018 pathfinder.

I bought the nissan pathfinder brand new off the lot in late 2007. It only has 45 thousand miles on it. I've never had any problems with this vehicle until now. About 2 weeks ago i thought someone was stealing gas out of my vehicle, but thought it was nearly impossible because it's kept behind a locked fence . Saturday july 13th i had to fill up because of a storm. When i gas finished fueling it showed that i had an empty tank. I knew that was wrong so i decided to give nissan a call at 1-800-647-7261. I spoke to an agent and told him my problem, he gave me a case number and told me to call the nearest nissan dealership closest to me . I called the nissan dealership's service department and they told me that i would have to pay for any services i had done to my vehicle. . I don't agree . There are multiple people with the same vehicle as myself and i believe there should be a recall on this problem . If anyone can help me , please feel free to help. I'm on a fixed income and this was not any negligence on my part. I have a case number already on file with nissan, but the dealership doesn't want to honor it. [xxx]. While driving thursday, february 14th, 2019, my check engine light came on. I pulled over in a nearby parking lot as soon as i could. At this point, i noticed that my fuel gauge had dropped from 1/4 tank down to empty. I used an odb2 scanner to check my error codes, and found an error code p0463 (fuel tank level sensor - voltage high). I immediately proceeded to a gas station, refueled, and cleared the engine code to see if it would reappear. It has not since reappeared. After some research, i found that this is a known issue for 2008 nissan pathfinders, and that there is a recall associated with the issue. The nhtsa campaign id is 10v075000. I called nissan's public number and a local dealership owned service center. Neither found any active recalls regarding my vehicle, and neither knew what a nhtsa campaign id number was. I asked to speak to the manager of the service center. I left a voice mail for them thursday afternoon, but have not heard back. Based on the symptoms my vehicle is experiencing, i believe my vehicle is likely suffering from the same issue as described in the aforementioned nhtsa campaign, and that my vehicle, and likely others, were missed in the recall.

A few months after i purchased my vehicle in 2007, i was in a car accident. However, my front-air bags did not deploy although the air-bag light came on and is still on till this day. I took the vehicle in to a nissan dealer and they told me that the light is on because the airbag sensor wiring harness was damaged. I asked the service manager if the airbag sensor would come on even thought he air-bags never deployed. The service manager said that it is possible that the airbag light will come on and the airbag sensor wiring harness was damaged eventhough the airbags never deployed. There is a current a recall on the airbag sensor for this vehicle. I called nissan and they told me that the air-bag sensor was covered under their extended warranty on the sensor. However, when i contacted the dealership to have it replaced they told me that since the sensor came on as of a result of an accident it was not covered under the sensor recall. I don't understand why the air-bag sensor light is still on eventhough the airbags never deployed. This seems like some sort of failure in the airbag system of the vehicle and not due to the accident. *tr

2009 Pathfinder

I struck a deer while driving my 2009 nissan pathfinder. There was damage to the left front bumper and slight damage to the left front fender. Although it was not a high impact collision with the deer, the wiring from the bumper to the airbag was cut in two. The airbag light flashed on the dashboard, but the airbag did not activate. The body shop has been unable to repair the wiring harness because none are available. If a slight accident managed to sever the wires then what would happen in a high impact crash when the wires are severed. No airbag. Nissan needs to correct this defect immediately and they need to have parts on hand due to the shoddy workmanship and design of the wiring harness. *tr

2007 Pathfinder

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan pathfinder. While the vehicle was parked, the contact heard the alarm sound and noticed smoke under the hood. There were no warning lights illuminated prior to the failure. The fire department extinguished the fire and filed a report. The manufacturer inspected the vehicle, but did not provide an explanation as to what caused the failure. The insurance company stated that the wiring harness caught fire. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The hood and wiring harness were burned, but the vehicle is salvageable. The failure and current mileages were 45,000. Updated 8/28/09 *cn updated 09/03/09.*jb

2026 Pathfinder

After the vehicle sits for several hours, the remote start system fails every time. Both the key fob remote start and the NissanConnect app remote start do not work, even though the vehicle shows as connected. The start command is aborted internally until the vehicle is physically moved a few feet. A dealership porter also could not remote‑start the vehicle at my home, and this is documented. This creates a safety concern because I transport disabled children and medical equipment, and the vehicle may fail to start when needed.

2026 Pathfinder

The speed sign reading technology reads the S.R road signs as speed limit signs. I have a 25 model and it does not do this. The 2026 model is equipped with the pro pilot system which is not on the 2025 model.

The transmission is going bad which makes it dangerous to drive. Had it 2 days and I check my FIXD module and found code.
