THE FRONT RIGHT SUSPENSION COIL ON MY 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER FAILED AND BROKE INTO TWO PIECES. THE WIDEST SECTION OF COIL SHIFTED OFF THE STRUT SPRING PERCH AND CAME INTO CONTACT WITH THE NEARBY TIRE SIDEWALL CAUSING TIRE WEAR WHICH COULD LEAD TO FAILURE. THE RIDE HEIGHT ALSO FELL AS A RESULT OF THE BREAKAGE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED DURING NORMAL SUBURBAN DRIVING. THE VEHICLE IS NOT SUBJECTED TO EXTREME OPERATING CONDITIONS AND THE STRUTS WERE REPLACED APPROXIMATELY 10,000 MILES PRIOR TO COIL SPRING FAILURE. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE 6 DISC BOSE CD PLAYER WORKED PERFECT FOR A FEW YEARS. IN 2006 IT READ ERR2. I ATTEMPTED TO RETRIEVE THE CD'S BUT THEY WOULD NOT COME OUT. AS A RESULT THE PLAYER CONTINUOUSLY CLICKED AND THEN EVENTUALLY STOPPED. NOW IT DOES NOT DO ANYTHING. I HAVE FOUND THIS PROBLEM TO BE VERY COMMON IN 2001 PATHFINDER AND INFINTIY QX4. THERE IS NOT A CD PLAYER MADE THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH BOSE THAT WILL SOUND GOOD. TO PURCHASE A NEW ONE IS RIDICULOUS BECAUSE OF THE HIGH PRICE THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE SPOKEN TO MANY PEOPLE IN FORUMS THAT HAVE ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE BROKEN UNIT ONLY TO HAVE IT LAST A FEW MONTHS. A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE IS PRESENT AFTER FILLING UP AND LASTS UNTIL THE TANK IS APPROXIMATELY 3/4 FULL. THIS PROBLEM BEGAN 2 WEEKS AGO. IT OCCURS EVERY TIME THE TANK IS FILLED. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED. THE NHTSA WEBSITE INDICATED THAT A RECALL WAS ISSUED IN 2007 FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER'S REPORT DATE IS 9-12-07. THE VEHICLE IS A 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER AND WAS ORIGINALLY SOLD IN NEW YORK. I AM THE SECOND OWNER AND PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2004 IN NORTH CAROLINA. CONSEQUENCES OF THE DEFECT ARE POSSIBLE GASOLINE FIRE AND TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF THE VEHICLE AND DEATH OF ALL PASSENGERS. THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND WILL NOT BE DRIVEN UNTIL THE DEALER HONORS THE RECALL. "FRONT STRUT TOWER CORROSION AND RUST" - WHILE PARKED, I CHECKED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL AREA AND NOTICED CORROSION AND RUST. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THERE IS A LARGE CRACK IN THE STRUT TOWER ITSELF. THIS CRACK BEGINS IN THE AREA THAT NISSAN ALLEGEDLY "FIXED" AND "REPAIRED" UNDER THEIR RECALL A FEW YEARS BACK. OBVIOUSLY, THIS WAS NOT A PERMANENT FIX AND HAS NOW PRESENTED A SAFETY HAZARD AND POTENTIALLY FINANCIAL BURDEN ON MY FAMILY AND ME. THIS VEHICLE IS A PRIMARY MEANS OF TRANSPORTING MY FAMILY, INCLUDING MY 2 YEAR OLD CHILD.

The contact owns a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the contact was attempting to use her brakes to slow for traffic and was unable to stop. The contact had to depress the brake pedal to the floorboard to get the vehicle to stop. The contact stated that prior to the failure her ABS warning had been illuminated for a long period of time prior to the failure. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that due to a significant amount of rust, the front suspension and struts and brake pads, and rotors had to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 11V244000 (Steering and Suspension). The work had been previously completed by a dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.

THE SUB-FRAME/CRADLE 54400-0W00 ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS ROTTED OUT TO THE POINT THAT IT WILL NOT PASS A PA STATE INSPECTION. THIS WAS FOUND BY MY MECHANIC WHILE HE WAS REPLACING THE FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKES. MY MECHANIC HAS ORDERED A NEW SUB FRAME + BOLTS TO REPLACE THE ROTTED OUT SUB-FRAME. I WONDER HOW MANY OTHER SUB-FRAMES ARE ROTTED OUT ON PATHFINDERS FROM 1996 TO 2004 WHICH IS WHEN NISSAN USED THIS PARTICULAR PART. MY CONCERN IS IF THIS PART FAILS COMPLETELY WHAT WILL HAPPEN??? I HAVE RESTRICTED DRIVING MY PATHFINDER UNTIL THE NEW PART IS INSTALLED. I THINK SOMEONE SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM, BECAUSE WHEN IT FAILS AND IT WILL SOMEONE WILL GET HURT OR EVEN KILLED? THE CONTROL ARMS MOUNTED TO THIS PART WHICH CONTROLS STEERING. THIS PART PLUS LABOR WILL COST ME ABOUT $1500.00.

CONSUMER WRITES TO INFORM THAT WHILE IN CRUISE CONTROL VEHICLE GRADUALLY ACCELERATED TO 91 MILES PER HOUR, WHICH WAS APPROXIMATELY 25 M.P.H ABOVE THE CRUISE CONTROL SETTING *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AN ATTEMPT TO BRAKE HAD LITTLE EFFECT. AFTER SWITCHING THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL AND APPLYING BOTH FEET HARD ON THE BRAKE, SHE WAS FINALLY ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND ULTIMATELY STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE THROTTLE CABLE FLIPPED OVER THE TOP OF THE BUTTERFLY VALVE. HE ADJUSTED THE TENSION FOR LESS SLACK TO KEEP THE CABLE FROM BOUNDING UP INSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY. *JB

FUEL/THROTTLE CONTROL: I EXPERIENCED A "SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION" INCIDENT IN JULY OF 2002. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF HEAD IN PARKING AND WAS MOVING VERY SLOWLY WHILE APPLYING BRAKES THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED OVER CURBING INTO A WALL. THE VEHICLE STOPPED, THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING, AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE IS A 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER WITH LESS THAN 8,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE READ OF OTHER INCIDENTS LIKE THIS FOR THIS VEHICLE AND AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. NO OTHER INCIDENT HAS OCCURED. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCE THIS SITUATION BEFORE AND I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT THAT I STEPPED ON THE ACCELETATOR THE SAME TIME AS THE BRAKE. NOW I BELIEVE I DID NOT STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR BUT FOR SOME REASON THE VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONED. I HAVE NOT TAKEN THIS INTO THE DEALER BECAUSE I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THEIR ABILITY TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AS IT APPEARS TO BE VERY INTERMITTENT. THERE IS A PATTERN OF FAILURES FOR ALL NISSAN VEHICLES 1998 THRU 2001 (DID NOT SEARCH NHTSA DATABASE FOR ANYTHING EARLIER). THIS FAILURE INVOLVES THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATING  USUALLY WHEN THE DRIVER IS EITHER SLOWING DOWN OR BRAKING. IN OUR CASE, WE COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE TO STOP OUR FORWARD MOTION. THE DATABASE SUMMARIES SHOW THE DEALER RESPONSE IS ALWAYS THE SAME - WE CAN'T REPLICATE, THEREFORE WE CAN'T FIX. ADDITIONALLY, OUR DEALER CONTACTED NISSAN AND WAS TOLD THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM  WHICH SEEMS VERY UNLIKELY SINCE THE REPORTS IN YOUR DATABASE SHOW THAT THE VEHICLE OWNERS HAVE REPEATED TOLD NISSAN OF THE PROBLEM. PLEASE BEGIN AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS PROBLEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND FORCE NISSAN TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM, DETERMINE ITS CAUSE AND RECALL THE VEHICLES. JULY 1, 2007: MICHELIN TIRE FAILURE: P255/65 R16 MICHELIN LTX M/S . AFTER 22K MILES ON THE TIRES, WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65MPH, SUDDENLY THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE TREAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE SIDEWALL, RESULTING IN A BLOWOUT. THE 2001 PATHFINDER LE 4X4, DIDN'T FLIP OVER. I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND PULLOVER ON THE SIDE. THE ENTIRE TIRE TREAD SEPARATED INTACT, AROUND THE TAILPIPE BRACKETS AND REAR MUDFLAP. THE TREAD IS UNDAMAGED: NO NAIL OR SCREWS OR ANY OTHER ROAD HAZARD OR DAMAGES. THE AAA SENT A TRUCK WHO CHANGED THE TIRE. HIS COMMENT WAS: "IN OVER 22 YEARS OF DOING TIRE AND MECHANICAL WORK, HE NEVER SAW ANYTHING LIKE THIS". I RETURNED THE TIRE TO COSTCO. THE TIRE CENTER MANAGER WAS VERY COOPERATIVE,WHERE THEY ORDERED A NEW TIRE WITHOUT QUESTION.DAMAGES TO THE PATHFINDER WERE ESTIMATED AT $900 DUE TO THE NEED TO REPLACE THE TAILPIPE/MUFFLER ASSEMBLY AND THE MUDFLAP WAS DESTROYED. COSTCO MANAGER SAID THAT THE CLAIM FOR DAMAGES WOULD NEED TO BE MADE DIRECTLY TO MICHELIN. I DID THAT. IT IS A MIRACLE THAT THE VEHICLE DIDN'T FLIP OVER !!!. MICHELIN REQUIRED THAT THE TIRE BE RETURNED TO COSTCO, HAVE THEM CALL MICHELIN TO GIVE A REPORT OF THE SITUATION. MICHELIN REP SAID THAT THEY WOULD OFFER PERHAPS A 50% DISCOUNT ON THE PURCHASE OF NEW REPLACEMENT TIRE BUT NOTHING ELSE. I WANT MICHELIN TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGES SUSTAINED !!. I WAS REQUIRED TO SEND THE TIRE TO MICHELIN (THEY EVENTUALLY PAID FOR THE SHIPPING) TO BE EXAMINED. THE RESULTS OF THEIR INVESTIGATION WAS A LETTER RESPONSE THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY "DRIVER ERROR" - BY RUNNING THE TIRE IN A RUN-FLAT CONDITION. A RUN -FLAT CONDITION ???? WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON I-95 THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. SPECIFICALLY THE THREADS PEELED OFF CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL WELL, TRIM AND BRAKES. DAMAGE WAS $1650. TIRE WAS A TOYO TRANPATH A12(TAA12-6). P255/65R16 106S WITH GOOD THREADS. UPON INSPECTION CRACKS ARE VISIBLE ON TWO OTHER TOYO TIRES AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. IN APRIL 2019, I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 55 MPH TOWING A SMALL TRAILER IN THE RIGHT MOST LANE OF A 3 LANE HIGHWAY. AS I APPROACHED A HILL, THE PATHFINDER SUDDENLY SMELLED LIKED SOMETHING WAS ON FIRE AND THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. I MANAGED TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY AND COAST TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER. THE BURNING SMELL LASTED ABOUT 5 MINUTES, BUT I COULD NOT TELL WHERE THE SOURCE WAS AT THE TIME. I RAN SEVERAL DIAGNOSTIC TESTS, INCLUDING ECU CODES, BUT DID NOT FIND ANYTHING INDICATIVE OF A PROBLEM OF THIS NATURE. IN JANUARY 2020, I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE AFTER REPLACING SEVERAL WORN OUT DRIVETRAIN COMPONENTS (CLUTCH, ENGINE, RADIATOR, ENGINE GASKETS) AND FOUND THAT IT WOULD NOT START. I FOUND A BURNED OUT FUSE TO THE ECCS2, 10 AMP CIRCUIT. I REPLACED THE FUSE AND IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE DASHBOARD EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ON OR RUNNING AT THE TIME. AGAIN THE SMOKE LASTED SEVERAL MINUTES. THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO SEE SMOKE COMING FROM THE COMPUTER CASING OF THE VEHICLE'S ECU. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY IMMEDIATELY AND REMOVED THE ECU FROM THE VEHICLE. I DISCOVERED A BURNED CHIP INSIDE. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OF RESEARCH, I WAS ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE AND LEARN THAT THIS HAPPENS TO MANY OTHER MODELS OF NISSAN VEHICLES OF SIMILAR YEAR MODEL. THE CAUSE IS ALWAYS THE SAME - THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE SEALS FAIL, THEN WATER GETS INSIDE THE ELECTRIC IACV MOTOR AND WHEN THE ECU TRIES TO COMPENSATE FOR THE IACV FAILURE, IT OVERLOADS THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT AND SHORTS OUT THIS PARTICULAR CHIP. SOME PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED SPENDING SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS TO HAVE NISSAN REPLACE PARTS AND REPAIR THEIR ECU AS THESE VEHICLES ARE NOW OUT OF WARRANTY.

2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER 3.5L 4WD SE MODEL STARTED MISFIRING AT 89,000 MILES, WHICH THE JEFF WYLER NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN OHIO ADVISED ON REPLACING AN IGNITION COIL. CAR RAN OK FOR 2 WEEKS, THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND THIS TIME IT WAS A VALVE TIMING SENSOR. REPLACED THAT AND 2 WEEKS LATER MORE MISFIRING, AND THE SAME DEALER SAYS IT'S ANOTHER IGNITION COIL. A LITTLE RESEARCH SHOWS THERE ARE OVER 2500 PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ENGINE TYPE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES (MAXIMAS), AND OTHER CAR MANUFACTURERS NOT HAVING THIS ISSUE. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT AND NEEDS SERIOUS SCRUTINY OR LEGAL ACTION.

A MONTH AGO, THE ELECTRON FUSE BLEW IN THE VEHICLE CAUSING THE VEHICLE NOT TO START, WHEN THE FUSE IS REPLACED IT BLOWS AGAIN. WE WERE TOLD THE MAIN WIRING HARNESS HAS GONE BAD - THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 34,000 MILES ON IT! WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WE COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT IT FROM GOING BAD - "IT JUST WENT BAD". THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INOPERABLE SINCE OCTOBER 5, 2004 - WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A NEW WIRING HARNESS, NISSAN SENT THE WRONG PART TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE. THE CORRECT PART WE ARE TOLD IS ON BACKORDER INDEFINATELY - NISSAN HAS NO IDEA WHEN THE PART WILL BECOME AVAILABLE. A SUPERVISOR FROM NISSAN HAS FAILED TO RETURN MY PHONE CALLS AND THEY WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS 38 MONTHS OLD (EVEN THOUGH IT ONLY HAS 34,000 MILES ON IT). THEY SAID THEY DO NOT PLAN ON DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR ALL FUTURE LUBE REPAIRS. NISSAN TOLD ME THEY HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THE PROBLEM FOR AWHILE.

MY CAR BODY STRUCTURE WAS BROKEN INTO TWO PIECES, AND IT IS NOT OPERABLE. THE PASSENGER FRONT SIDE STRUT TOWER ON MY 2001 PATHFINDER WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. THE STRUT TOWER WAS DISCONNECTED FROM THE BODY DUE TO THE RUST. WHEN THE TOWER FINALLY LET GO, THE STEERING WAS AFFECTED CAUSING ISSUES STEERING THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT ONLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE DRIVER SIDE UNDER CARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS THE REST OF THE FRAME BODY STRUCTURE. IT CAUSED ALSO DAMAGE TO THE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. BEFORE MY CAR GOT BROKEN, I HEARD A NOISE FROM ITS RIGHT SIDE AND I WAS DRIVING IT ON THE HIGHWAY, FOR A SECOND I LOST THE ABILITY TO STEEL MY CAR, BUT I KEPT IT STEADY UNTIL I COULD GET THE NEXT EXIT. I COULD HAVE SUFFERED A FATAL ACCIDENT THAT DAY. THERE IS A RECALL FOR FRAME/BODY STRUCTURE CORROSION FOR THIS MODEL 2001 PATHFINDER REGISTERED IN NEW JERSEY. MY COMPLAINT IS QUITE THE SAME AS I CAN SEE ALL READY LISTED ON THIS SITE. I HAVE A 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER WHICH I PURCHASED IN 2004. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY SWAY BAR WHICH NO ONE ESPECIALLY THE DEALER KNOWS HOW IT GOT BENT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY 6CD BOSE CHANGER ALSO SHUT DOWN ON ME IN 2007 JUST STOP WORKING AND NOT EJECTING CDS AND DOING A CLICK CLICK NOISE ALL THE TIME I HAVE TWO CDS IN THERE I CAN NOT REMOVE OR GET OUT. ACCORDING TO NISSAN THEY DON'T HANDLE THESE ISSUES AND DO NOT FIX THEM THEY REPLACE THE WHOLE CD CHANGER FOR $700-$800. THIS IS A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM AND ISSUE WITH THEM AND THEIR SISTER COMPANIES WITH THE BOSE SYSTEM THE VEHICLES ARE PROVIDED WITH WHEN YOU PURCHASE THEM. YOU DO NOT ORDER THE SYSTEM IT COMES WITH THE VEHICLE BUT THEY WONT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY NOR FIX IT. IN LATE MAY OF 2003, THE DRIVER'S SEAT OF MY NISSAN PATHFINDER STOPPED WORKING AS FAR AS THE AUTOMATIC SEAT ADJUSTMENTS. I WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO MOVE THE SEAT FORWARD OR REVERSE USING THE SEAT'S AUTOMATIC SWITCH. THUS BEING STUCK IN A POSITION NOT EXACTLY THE WAY I WOULD NEED TO DRIVE. I CAN NOT MOVE THIS SEAT TO A PROPER AND SAFE AREA SO THAT I CAN OPERATE THE VEHICLE AS PRESCRIBED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. AS WITH ANY VEHICLE, THE SEAT SHOULD BE POSITIONED RELATIVE TO THE DRIVER'S ABILITY. I HAVE TO DRIVE CLOSER TO THE STEERING WHEEL THAT I WOULD LIKE. AS WELL AS MY GIRLFRIEND IS UNABLE TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE OF THE FACT IT WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD SO SHE CAN REACH THE PEDALS. SO IF I WAS TO BE HURT, SHE WOULD NOT HAVE A WAY TO GO. THE MOTOR FOR THIS SEAT SHOULD NOT BE MALFUNCTIONING THIS EARLY IN A VEHICLE'S LIFE. I TOOK THE SAID VEHICLE TO THE SHEEHY NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHICH IS LOCATED IN MANASSAS, VIRGINIA. THEY INDICATED THAT THIS WAS NOT A RECALL NOR A WARRANTY PART. I HAVE THE GOLD WARRANTY WHICH [XXX] NEARS COVERS EVERYTHING ELSE. ALSO IT COVERS A DRIVER'S SEAT ASSEMBLY BUT NOT THIS PARTICULAR PIECE OR AS I WAS INFORMED THIS KIT. ON THURSDAY MAY 24, 2001, I WENT TO PICK UP MY PATHFINDER AT CONCORD NISSAN. MY PATHFINDER WAS IN FOR WARRANTY WORK, ON THE POWER CONTROLS FOR THE DRIVER SEAT AND THE CD PLAYER. DEALER HAD INFORMED ME THAT MY 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER LE, VIN#[XXX], IS READY FOR PICK UP. AS I GO OVER THE REPAIRS, I NOTICE THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT IS NOT BOLTED IN. I GO AND GET THE SERVICE MANAGER, [XXX] , AND WHEN HE COMES OUT, HE REALLY DOES NOT UNDERSTAND WHY I AM UPSET. AS [XXX] STANDS, CHEWING GUM WITH HIS HANDS BEHIND HIS BACK, HE CASUALLY SAYS, EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES. I TRIED TO GET [XXX] TO SEE WHY IT IS SUCH A BIG CONCERN OF MINE, BUT I WAS UNABLE TO. THERE IS AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE VEHICLE INCLUDING THE WHEEL WELL, DOOR JAMS, FLOOR BOARD, AND FRAME. I WAS ALMOST UNABLE TO RECEIVE A REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD BECAUSE THE FRAME IS RUSTING OUT. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN THE NORTH THEN MOVED SOUTH AND THE PROBLEM HAS GROWN WORSE. THE COMPARTMENT THAT IS HOLDING THE SPARE TIRE UNDER THE VEHICLE IS RUSTING OUT AS WELL. I PURCHASED A 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER IN 2004. THE BOSE 6-DISC CHANGER IMMEDIATELY FAILED. THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED IT BECAUSE IT FELL WITHIN THE 30-DAY WARRANTY PERIOD. IT WORKED FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS AFTER THAT AND THEN I GOT AN ERROR MESSAGE ONE DAY WHEN I TRIED TO LOAD A CD AND IT HASN'T WORKED SINCE. LAST SPRING, I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A TIRE ROTATION AND BALANCE AND MY MECHANIC NOTED THAT THERE WAS A SLIGHT FISH-TAILING IN THE BACK WHICH WAS CAUSED BY DETERIORATION OF THE REAR BUSHINGS, AND OVER TIME, THE FISH-TAILING WOULD GET SO BAD, IT COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHEN BRAKING. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN CERTAIN PATHFINDER MODELS, AND NISSAN EVEN CORRECTED THE PROBLEM IN FUTURE MODELS OF THE PATHFINDER ONCE THE PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED. I HAVE READ MULTIPLE POSTS TO THIS WEBSITE AS WELL AS OTHERS REGARDING BOTH OF THESE ISSUES IN THE 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER. HOW CAN NISSAN NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT OF THIS FAULTY EQUIPMENT? TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER. WHILE ENTERING A PARKING SPACE APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AND CRASHED INTO AN UNOCCUPIED VEHICLE. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED THEN IMMEDIATELY, THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP WHILE EXTENSIVE FORCE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED SEVERE BODY DAMAGE. 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER HAS EXPERIENCED TWO EVENTS WHERE THE BRAKES HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. THE FIRST EVENT INVOLVED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ACTIVATING WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 45 MPH WITHOUT THE DRIVER PULLING UP ON THE EMERGENCY HANDLE. IMMEDIATELY UPON THE BRAKE LOCKING UP, THE DRIVER PULLED UP AND DOWN ON THE HANDLE AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE THANKFULLY RELEASED ITSELF. THE SECOND EVENT OCCURRED TWO WEEKS LATER WHEN ALL FOUR BRAKES FAILED TO ACTIVATE WHEN THE DRIVER PUSHED DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL - IT WENT TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ENGAGING ANY OF THE BRAKES. AFTER PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL OVER AND OVER, THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED JUST SHORT OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF HIM AT THE INTERSECTION. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THEY ALLEGEDLY ANALYZED ALL OF THE BRAKING SYSTEMS AND COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. I TOOK MY X IN TO HAVE THE 60K MAINT DONE AND THEY HAD THE NERVE TO TELL ME ABOUT MY BRAKES, BUT DIDN'T TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT THE CRACKED MANIFOLD. THEY EVEN TOLD ME THAT THEY SAW IT BUT DIDN'T THINK IT WAS ANYTHING TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT. IF IT WASN'T FROM THE DEALER CHARGING ME FOR OVERFILLING MY TRANS FLUID AND NOT TIGHTENING A TRANS HOSE FITTING, I WOULD HAD DROVE THE THING UNTIL THE NEXT TIME TO CHANGE THE OIL AND NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE CRACK IN THE MANIFOLD OR RAN THE TRANSMISSION DRY. NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT IT IS MY FAULT FOR NOT KEEPING AN EYE ON IT. I ASKED THE LADY AT HQ'S, IF I HAD TAKEN MY X IN WITH 60K MILES ON IT AND THEY HAD FOUND THE CRACK WOULD IT BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY? SHE TOLD ME NO THEN WENT ON TO TELL ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO BRING IT IN ON 59999K AND IT WOULD HAD BEEN. I HAD TAKEN IT IN PRIOR TO THE 60K TO WHICH THE DEALER DID NOTHING OR NOTED NOTHING. THEN AFTER FINDING THE TRANS FLUID LEAK I TOOK IT BACK IN WHICH WAS ABOUT 3 DAYS LATER. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK IN IT WAS OVER THE 60K. NOW AFTER THE DEALER QUOTED ME 4 DIFFERENT PRICES RANGING FROM 300-1500 DOLLARS ON REPAIRING THE EXACT SAME THING (EXHAUST MANIFOLD). I AM PAYING MORE FOR GAS DUE TO THE LOW MILEAGE FROM THE CRACKED/FAULTY MANIFOLD. I CONSTANTLY SMELL EXHAUST DURING TRAVELING(STOPS). DEALER GAVE ME BACK SUV AS IS (KNOWING IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE) AND ORDERED 4 NEW TIRES OF THE SAME BRAND WHICH TOOK A WEEK TO RECIEVE. I REQUESTED TO REPLACE TIRE WITH MICHILINE LTX BUT DEALER AND NISSAN REFUSED TO DO SO. I REQUESTED A SAFETY AND RESPONSIBILTY LETTER SINCE THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME A CHOOSE OF WHAT BRAND TO CHOOSE BUT THEY WOULD NOT DO SO. DEALER FINALLY REPLACED TIRES AND VIBRATION IS 90 %IMPROVED BUT STILL EXISTS. ALSO I HAVE TAKEN MY SUV FOR A RATTLE IN STEERING AND THE DEALER FOUND THAT THE DRIVER AIRBAG WAS NOT INSTALLED PROPERLY FROM FACTORY. DEALER FIXED THE PROBLEM AND THEN THREE WEEKS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM RETURNED. TOOK SUV TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY PUT "TUBES IN THE SPRING BEHIND THE AIRBAG" THIS IS TO REDUCE RATTLE/VIBRATION. NOW THE HORN IS UNOPERATIONAL DUE TO THIS. YOU MUST PUT BOTH HANDS ON THE HORN/AIRBAG AND PUSH VERY HARD EST 40IBS OF FORCE TO ENGAGE THE HORN. THIS IS UNACCPTIBLE AND UNSAFE TO OPERATE THE VECHICAL WITH OUT A HORN. I DO HAVE A SAFETY CONVERN TO OTHER OWNER OF THIS SUV DUE TO DEFECTIVE TIRES THAT CAN BLOW AND CASUE A SEROUS EXCEDENT.
