The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to immediately restart. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The dynamic control warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Voluntary Recall Campaign: PC068. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 170,000.

STARTED UP DROVE FINE THEN WHEN I STOPPED IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. TURNED OFF WENT THROUGH GEARS COUPLE TIMES AND HAD TO DO THAT 3 TIMES BEFORE IT WOULD ACCELERATE AND SHIFT. I DROVE 50 MILES HOME NEXT DAY IT DID SAME THING AFTER DRIVING 1/2 MILE. GOES INTO REVERSE BUT WILL NOT GO OVER 5 MILES PER HOUR MOVING FORWARD.

AFTER FILLING THE VEHICLE UP WITH GAS-THE FUEL GAUGE DROPPED TO EMPTY AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I CHECKED THE DISTANCE TO EMPTY ON FUEL GAUGE IT SHOWED BLANKS. AS I BEGAN TO DRIVE THE DISTANCE TO EMPTY STARTED TO INCREASE BUT THE FUEL GAUGE NEVER MOVED TO THE FULL POSITION AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. UPON STOPPING AND TURNING THE ENGINE OFF THE FUEL GAUGE FINALLY MOVED INTO THE FULL POSITION. THE OWNERS MANUAL SAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SHOULD GO OFF BUT HAS NOT. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OREILLYS AND HAD THEM RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON IT AND IT SHOWED TO BE THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR WAS BAD. THE FUEL GAUGE IS STILL NOT WORKING AND THIS IS ONLY ONE OF MANY PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE HAD WITH THIS VEHICLE. RECENTLY HAD TO HAVE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AND U JOINTS SEVERAL TIMES. While driving on US 95 in DC, MD and NJ, when the traffic became stop and go, my SUV could not get into 1st gear to go. The engine revved, the car shook and made noises. Several times I came close to being rear-ended. This problem also occurs when starting after a red light, when accelerating on a highway (usually 3rd or 4th gear), and when turning left on a green arrow. Not only has it caused many close calls with being rear-ended, but it has also incited road rage in people who are driving behind me. Now I'm told I need a new transmission and also a new coolant system which leaks due to a fault in the system known by Nissan, and pollutes the transmission. This is a terrible safety threat and Nissan should own up to it and pay for the repairs.

ONCE I TOOK IT IN TO A MECHANIC, THE FOLLOWING CODES CAME UP: P1731 - 1ST GEAR LOGIC ERROR, P0430- CAT EFFICIENCY BANK 2, P0455- EVAP SYSTEM LEAK LARGE. THE RECOMMENDATION WAS "TEAR DOWN". IN THE END, I HAD TO REPLACE MY: TRANSMISSION, RADIATOR, TORQUE CONVERTER, VALVE BODY, VALVE BODY SOLENOIDS, CATALYTIC CONVERTER BANK 2, EXHAUST GASKETS, OIL PRESSURE SENSOR, AND OXYGEN SENSOR. WITH A TOTAL COST OF $4,824.65. I WILL UPLOAD THE SERVICES MY NISSAN PATHFINDER HAD TO HAVE.

I got this vehicle from my parents which they bought brand new . So no other owners . When I got it was acting up and took to repair . They said my radiator was bad and had leaked radiator fluid . They thought could replace radiator and flush the system . I started looking at issues online . I found so many people with the same problems . I also found that Nissan was aware of a faulty crack in radiator. Which is the exact problem I had . I already spent 1000 $ in repairs with radiator and flushing system . I Am now out that money and the transmission has been effected by this issue . Tried everything possible with flushing system . Unfortunately this crack was the problem that has now left me with a perfect car that needs a transmission. So disappointed that Nissan ignores all the issues that unfortunately happened after 100,000 miles . Especially when they claim to know the radiator crack is a faulty part . That crack destroyed a perfect vehicle . Nissan should be accountable of these issues especially when their faulty part not only needed a new radiator but leaked into transmission . I am still sitting with this car . Unsafe to drive and unsafe to sell .

MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER STARTED STALLING WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THIS OFTEN HAPPENED ON BUSY STREETS AND IN BUSY INTERSECTIONS. I WOULD HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, TURN THE IGNITION, AND THEN PUT THE CAR BACK IN DRIVE. SOMETIMES I WOULD HAVE TO REPEAT THIS PROCESS SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE A 4 YEAR OLD CHILD, AND THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS FOR US. I TOOK THE CAR TO HERITAGE NISSAN FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND WAS CHARGED $115 TO BE TOLD THAT MY ANTIFREEZE HAD MIXED WITH MY TRANSMISSION FLUID CAUSING MY TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. I THEN LEARNED THAT THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED BECAUSE OF A FAULTY RADIATOR USED BY NISSAN IN SEVERAL OF THEIR VEHICLES, ONE BEING MY PATHFINDER. NISSAN HAS REFUSED TO ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL, EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A VERY OBVIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AT HAND. HERITAGE NISSAN QUOTED ME A STARTING PRICE OF $5000 FOR THE REPAIRS NEEDED. REPAIRS THAT ARE NEEDED BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY RADIATOR USED BY NISSAN. OF COURSE, MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND NISSAN IS AWARE THAT THE RADIATOR CAN FAIL OUT OF MILEAGE RANGE OF THEIR WARRANTY. I am reporting a serious safety defect with my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder (VIN: [XXX] ). My vehicle has an open recall for the airbag emblem (NHTSA #23E-012 / PC948), which is scheduled for inspection. However, I am writing today because I am also experiencing a repeated and dangerous malfunction that is unrelated to that recall: Total loss of dashboard lights and instruments while driving No throttle response even though the engine remains running Temporary function restored only by turning the vehicle off and restarting it on the roas This behavior matches known electrical failures in this model year, often related to the IPDM, ignition switch, or ECM communication. These are not cosmetic or maintenance issues—they are life-threatening. My vehicle has done this multiple times, including at highway speeds. When I contacted South Colorado Springs Nissan, I was told they would only inspect the airbag emblem and would not evaluate this issue unless I paid for diagnostics. I find this unacceptable given Nissan’s history with these failures and the high likelihood this is a known and unresolved defect. I am requesting: That this issue be escalated within Nissan North America That Nissan consider this under a goodwill safety repair, if not covered by existing recall or campaign That the vehicle be diagnosed immediately, and Nissan be held accountable for any known defects I am also reporting this to NHTSA as a safety concern. The component that is malfunctioning is the emblem on the airbags. Nissan has known of this issue for a while. In the event of a crash, when the airbags deploy, the emblem will also explode with the airbags and send shrapnel from it flying towards the driver and nearby passengers. If the crash wouldn't kill the driver, then this issue could as it could hit the driver in a vital part. They are taking too long to fix this issue, as it is such a vital problem that can cost people their lives.

RADIATOR LEAKS FLUID INTO TRANSMISSION, NISSAN KNOWS THIS IS A FLAW AND THEY WILL ONLY FLUSH YOUR TRANSMISSION, JUST TO PUT IT OFF UNTIL YOU ARE OUT OF WARRANTY. I STARTED TAKING MY NISSAN IN AT 52,000MILES FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THEY KEPT TELLING ME THAT THEY ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEMS I WAS EXPERIENCING AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK. NOW I'M OUT OF WARRANTY AND MY TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACED. NISSAN ALSO HAS A PROBLEM WITH THEY FUEL GAGE, SOMETIMES IT SHOWS GAS LEVELS, AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T. I HAVE RAN OUT OF GAS 3 TIMES NOW, ON THE HIGHWAY! AGAIN, NISSAN KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM, THEY EVEN SENT AN "EXTENDED WARRANTY" TO COVER THIS PROBLEM SPECIFICALLY. I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM NISSAN ON NOVEMBER 23, 2010 STATING THE FUEL SENDING UNIT MAY CAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE TO INACCURATELY DISPLAY THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE TANK, WHICH IT DID, BUT WHEN I TOOK MY CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALER TO HONOR, THEY TOLD MY THAT I HAD TO CALL CORPORATE, CALLED CORPORATE AND THEY GAVE ME A FILE NUMBER AND TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WAS NOT IN WARRANTY FOR THIS RECALL. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS NOW AND NOW THEY WILL NOT HONOR THERE OWN RECALL.

I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK THE GAS GAUGE READS EMPTY AND THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON. I CURRENTLY HAVE ABOUT 146,000 KM AND HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 55,000 KM. THE FUEL SENSOR WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT THAT TIME. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. AROUND 50000 MILES THE FUEL GAUGE QUITE WORKING PROPERLY AND CONTINUES TO SHOW BOTH ACCURATE AND ERRONEOUS INDICATIONS. I WILL INDICATED PROPERLY AT TIMES AND INDICATED IMPROPERLY AT TIMES. ALSO THE DISTANCE TO EMPTY CALCULATOR HAS QUITE WORKING. THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE PATHFINDERS, NISSAN RECENTLY ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE 2006 AND 2007 NISSANS FOR THIS PROBLEM. HOWEVER THEY FAILED TO INCLUDE THE 2005 PATHFINDERS WHICH HAVE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS. I HAVE RUN OUT OF FUEL TWICE DUE TO INCORRECT FUEL INDICATIONS. FORTUNATELY THEY WERE BOTH NEAR HOME ON UNBUSY STREETS. I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD SON AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO DRIVE AND UNSAFE VEHICLE. HEAVEN FORBID I RUN OUT OF GAS ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY WITH NO SHOULDERS. NISSAN KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE AND YET NEGLECTED TO INCLUDE 2005 PATHFINDERS IN THEIR RECALL. THEY CONTINUE TO DENY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE THAT DRIVE THEIR CARS. THE FIX FOR THIS COST NEARLY $500. IN MY CASE IT CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON, WHICH IN TURN MEANS MY VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. ALL BECAUSE OF A FUEL LEVEL SENDIGN UNIT THAT WAS EITHER ENGINEERED IMPROPERLY, MANUFACTURED IMPORPERLY OR INSTALLED IMPROPERLY. WHY IS IT THAT THE EXACT SAME TYPE OF VEHICLES HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ALL AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE. I HIGHLY DOUBT IT IS COINSIDENCE. IN FACT, NISSAN RECOGNIZES THAT THERE IS A ISSUE WITH THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNITS, YET SOMEHOW THE 2005 PATHFINDERS DON'T FIT INTO THE RECALL. YOU WOULD THINK WITH THE RECENT ISSUES WITH TOYOTA THAT NISSAN WOULD BE MORE WILLING TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THEIR PASSENGERS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT A STOP SIGN WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FORWARD INTO TRAFFIC AND SUDDENLY STOPPED. THE MAINTENANCE, 4WD, AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. ALSO, THE GEAR SHIFTER SYMBOLS WERE BLANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD A BURNING ODOR. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO DAYS LATER. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE BECAME STUCK IN FIRST GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SAME INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.

I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE HAVING NO IDEA OF THIS ISSUE, I DIDN'T INVESTIGATE BECAUSE THIS IS OUR 7TH NISSAN AND THEY HAVE BEEN GOOD CARS. I WAS DRIVING 75 MPH TO WORK AT RUSH HOUR AND THE TRANS STARTED LETTING LOOSE AND SHUDDERING SO BAD I HAD TO PULL OVER ONTO THE SHOULD AND THAT'S JUST AS SAFE AS DRIVING THIS THING. SUDDENLY THE CAR NO LONGER ACCELERATED. NOTHING WAS COMING OR SHOWING ME THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. STOPPED AT A GAS STATION AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND ON AGAIN THEN THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON. TRIED TO ACCELERATE BUT NOTHING, EVERYTHING WAS RUNNING SMOOTHLY BUT THE CAR WAS JUST NOT ACCELERATING. SUDDENLY IT STARTED GOING REALLY SLOW BUT 500 FEET ON THE ROAD I HAD TO PULL OVER SINCE THE SPEED WENT NO MORE THAN 20MPH ON A 40MPH ROAD. I TRIED PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL TO THE LIMIT BUT NOTHING. THE DAY BEFORE I WENT TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR A DIAGNOSTICS WHICH I WAS CHARGED $105 FOR. THEY TRIED TO GET ME TO TRADE IN MY CAR FOR A NEW ONE. THEY RECOMMENDED I GET THE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH REPAIR AS WELL AS SOMETHING WITH THE COOLANT FLUSH AND TRANSMISSION FLUSH. I WAS GOING GO TAKE IT TOMORROW BUT THIS HAPPENED I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THE 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER WAS GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND IT BEGAN TO HARD SHIFT. THE REVS WOULD GO HIGH AND THEN THE CAR WOULD SHIFT VERY HARD. THEN WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT ABOUT 55MPH THE CAR SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE CAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE ANY GEARS AND I HAD TO PULL OF THE ROAD. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED IT WOULD NOT ENGAGE ANY GEARS. I TRIED TO RESET FROM PARK AND STILL NOTHING. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND THEN BACK ON,THEN I PLACED THE CAR INTO "D" DRIVE AT WHICH TIME IT HAD A LONG DELAY BEFORE ENGAGING THE GEAR HARD. THEN I ROLLED OFF SLOWLY AND AGAIN, IT REVED UP HIGH BEFORE GOING INTO THE NEXT GEAR. AS SOON AS I GOT TO ABOUT 20 MPH IT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL BEFORE COASTING TO A STOP. I HAD TO REPEAT THE OFF/ON PROCEDURE AND KEEP IT UNDER 20 MPH BEFORE I GOT TO A SAFE PLACE. THE CAR CONTINUE TO GO DOWN THE ROAD BETWEEN 15-20 MPH AT HIGH REVS IN ORDER TO GET IT TO A MECHANIC SHOP. I PURCHASED MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER IN MARCH OF 2011. HAD DONE GREAT FOR AWHILE. REPLACE A EXHAUST SENSOR IN AUGUST OF 2012. ALWAYS SMELLED HOT AFTER BEING DRIVEN, LIKE SOMETHING ELECTRICAL BUT COULD NEVER PINPOINT IT. THEN AROUND NOVEMBER 2012 NOTICED A DELAYED REACTION IN ENGAGING WHEN GOING INTO REVERSE AND A SLIGHT HESITATION COMING OUT OF PARK INTO DRIVE. DIDN'T THINK MUCH ABOUT IT AT TIME. BUT HAS SINCE GOTTEN WORSE, SHUTTERS FROM TIME TO TIME DRIVING, AND HESITATES MORE OFTEN. I CALLED THE LOCAL NISSAN SERVICE DEPARTMENT TODAY, JAN 24, THE MANAGER THERE TOLD ME I SHOULD CALL THE NISSAN CONSUMER OFFICE BECAUSE THE COMPANY WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE. SO I DID. THE FIRST PERSON I STARTED TALKING TO HUNG UP ON ME AS SOON AS I MENTIONED MY VEHICLES MAKE AND MODEL. I CALLED BACK GOT SOMEONE ELSE, ALTHOUGH SHE DIDN'T HANG UP ON ME, SHE WAS NO HELP. SHE SAID BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS OVER 100000 MILES, THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE. SO I GOT IN TOUCH WITH THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THEY ARE LOOKING INTO IT FOR ME AS WELL. THIS IS WRONG THE WAY NISSAN IS TREATING PEOPLE. ALL OF MY EXPERIENCE WITH MY TRANSMISSION FAILURE TOOK PLACE ON THE ROAD WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHICH WAS UNSAFE AND SCARY JULY 2014 - PRESENT. FIRST, THE TRUCK DEVELOPED A "BUCKING" MOVEMENT WHENEVER IT WAS DRIVEN. THE BUCKING MOVEMENT IS SIMILAR TO A CAR THAT IS TRYING TO SHIFT GEARS LIKE A MANUAL CAR, BUT THE TRANSITION BETWEEN GEARS WAS NOT SMOOTH. GRADUALLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY, WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR STARTED MAKING REVVING NOISES LIKE A RACE CAR, WHILE THE SPEED IS ONLY 20MPH. THE SPEED DROPPED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE REGARDLESS OF HOW HARD YOU ARE PRESSING ON THE GAS. TO DECREASE THE REVVING NOISE YOU CANNOT DRIVE ABOVE 40MPH. AS ALWAYS I RELY ON THE DEALERSHIP TO SERVICE MY CAR, AND AT FIRST THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST DID NOT SHOW THE COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION. WITH MORE AND MORE TEST BY THE NISSAN MECHANIC, THERE WAS STILL NO INDICATION BY THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT SHOWS THE INCREASE DEFECT OF THE TRANSMISSION. 3 WEEKS LATER, AFTER HANDING OVER THE CAR FOR A COMPLETE DAY, THE DEALERSHIP STRIP THE CAR AND RAN FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH INDICATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE DUE TO LEAK FROM THE ENGINE COOLANT LIQUID MIXING WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LEADING TO AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DAMAGE. THE RECOMMENDATION BY THE DEALERSHIP IS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH WOULD COST $5,000. REMAINING PAYMENT BALANCE FOR THE CAR IS $1700. TOTAL MILEAGE ON THE CAR IS 100,200. *TR

WIFE AND 3 CHILDREN WERE STUCK IN MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION. HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN ON TO GET TRANSMISSION TO RE-ENGAGE AND DRIVE. THIS ISSUE HAPPENED A HALF DOZEN MORE TIMES. THIS OWNER TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL NISSAN DEALER AND WAS CHARGED FOR COMPUTER ANALYSIS. THIS OWNER WAS TOLD THERE WAS A "KNOWN" ISSUE WITH TRANSMISSION OF THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE BEING CONTAMINATED FROM INNER COOLER. THIS OWNER WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $5500 TO FIX. THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN ON A BUSY STREET DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR, AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STOPPED RUNNING AND WENT TO A CRAWLING SPEED (AROUND 1-2 MPH). CARS BEHIND NEEDED TO MOVE QUICKLY TO AVOID COLLISION, AND BECAUSE THERE WAS NO SHOULDER, THE CAR BLOCKED TRAFFIC. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THEIR FIRST DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT IT WAS A FAILURE OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY, AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE AROUND $2400 FOR THE REPAIR. 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE FIRE THAT WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECT. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE HIS WIFE WAS DRIVING. HIS WIFE FELT A JERKING MOTION WHEN SHE PUSHED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR. HIS WIFE PULLED OVER, WHEN SUDDENLY ANOTHER MOTORIST INFORMED HER THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. ONCE SHE EXITED THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS A LOUD BOOM NOISE, WHICH WAS BELIEVED TO BE THE BATTERY EXPLODING. WITHIN IN SECONDS, THE UNCONTROLLABLE FLAMES LITERALLY ENGULFED THE ENTIRE VEHICLE. AT 60,000 MILES MY ENGINE, CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED. NISSAN REPLACED THESE COMPONENTS. SHORTLY AFTER... WINTER 2010-2011 CAR WOULD NOT HEAT WHILE IDLE. HAD COOLANT REPLACED. SUMMER 2011 ACCELERATION POWER ISSUES/SHAKING. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP (NORTH POINT NISSAN IN LITTLE ROCK). REPLACED RECALLED PART (RELAY SWITCH) BUT REFUSED TO EXAMINE POWER/SLIPPAGE/HEATING ISSUES BECAUSE THE DIAGNOSTICS REPORTED I HAD A BAD BATTERY. DID NOT PLACE ONE OF THEIR BATTERIES INTO MY PATHFINDER TO FIND PROBLEM BUT SENT ME ON MY WAY TO GET A NEW BATTERY. ALSO TELLING ME THAT BAD BATTERIES CAUSE CARS TO DO CRAZY THINGS AT O'REILLY'S AUTO STORE THEY TESTED MY NEW BATTERY AND IT TESTED FINE. UNBEKNOWNST TO ME ALL OF THE SIGNS MY CAR WAS EXHIBITING WERE THE TELL TELL SIGNS OF THE RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION DEFECT. I AM STILL UNSURE WHY THEY DID NOT PICK UP THE SYMPTOMS AND PROPERLY DIAGNOSE MY AUTOMOBILE. PROBLEMS PERSISTED... THE NEXT WINTER SAME ISSUE... MORE COOLANT. IN JUNE 2012 MY PATHFINDER WOULD NOT START...DIAGNOSED WITH TRANSMISSION RADIATOR ISSUE THAT THOUSANDS HAVE EXPERIENCED. NISSAN SENT A WARRANTY EXTENSION TO MOST OWNERS OF PATHFINDERS. NISSAN NEEDS TO STEP UP! THIS IS AN UNBELIEVABLE AMOUNT OF WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD. WHILE DRIVING ON A LOCAL STREET IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AT 35 MPH ON MY WAY TO PICK UP MY SON FROM SCHOOL, THE PATHFINDER BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. I PRESS ON THE GAS AND THE PATHFINDER WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER, IT WAS HESITATING AND SEEMED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STOP. I MADE TO THE MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE RADIATOR HAD LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THE MECHANIC THEN ADVISED THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $5828. I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, WHICH WAS DONE BY NISSAN. I HAD ALL OF THESE SERVICES PERFORMED BY THE NISSAN AUTOMOTIVE DEPARTMENT. NISSAN ISSUED A SAFETY RECALL IN SEPT. 2013 COVERING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SENSOR AND THROTTLE BODY FOR SEVERAL MODELS NOT INCLUDING THE PATHFINDER. IN OCTOBER 2012 AND DECEMBER 2013, MY ACCELERATOR PEDAL STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING AND IN SOME CASES STALLED ON THE ROAD. I HAD TO SHUT OFF THE CAR AND RESTART IT IN ORDER TO REGAIN ACCELERATION, ONLY TO LOSE IT AGAIN SHORTLY. THE VDC AND SLIP LIGHTS CAME ON IN THESE CASES EVEN THOUGH THE ROADS WERE DRY. WHILE DRIVING ON A SNOW IN 4WD COVERED SECONDARY ROAD I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THEY LOCKED UP AND NEVER RELEASED, LEAVING THE CAR STRANDED IN THE TRAVEL LANE. I DID TRY TO FORCE THE CAR OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND ENDED UP BREAKING MY FRONT DRIVESHAFT AND DIFFERENTIAL. THE PROBLEM WAS A FAILED ABS ACTUATOR THAT THE DEALER COULD NOT GET IT TO RELEASE THE BRAKES EVEN WITH THE CAR OFF AND KEY OUT. MY CONCERN IS IF THIS HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN FOR WORSE. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED AND I PAID FOR THE REPAIRS IN FULL. NISSAN N.A. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD ALL SORTS OF ISSUES STARTING WITH THE BRAKES WHEN ONE BRAKE SHOE TOTALLY DISINTEGRATED AND EVIDENTLY RUPTURED BRAKE LINES AT AROUND 61,000 MILES. NEW BRAKE REPLACEMENT ALMOST $900. SINCE THAT TIME (THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 75000 MILES) THE TRANSMISSION HAS CONTINUALLY SLIPPED, THE GAS GAUGES AND ALL OTHER GAUGES WORK INTERMITTENTLY, AND THE EMISSIONS TEST LAST MONTH SHOWED POSSIBLE CATALYTIC CONVERTER ISSUES (THERE ARE EVIDENTLY TWO). WHEN TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SUGGESTED I GET RID OF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS NOTORIOUS FOR CROSS CONTAMINATION OF COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID. CONTINUING TO DRIVE IT WOULD EVENTUALLY DESTROY THE TRANSMISSION, AND EVEN NOW MAY HAVE PERMANENT DAMAGE. WHEN CONTACTING NISSAN ABOUT POSSIBLE RECALLS AND THE SUPPOSED SETTLED CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT CONCERNING THE TRANSMISSION CONTAMINATION, I WAS TOLD I WOULD NEED DOCUMENTATION OF ALL SERVICE DONE TO THE VEHICLE TO RECEIVE $800 TOWARD THE NECESSARY $3800 REPAIR COST JUST FOR THE CONTAMINATION LEAK. ME AND MY 6 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER WERE GOING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN MY CAR LOST ALL POWER AND WAS LIKE IT HAD BEEN SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. IT ALL STARTED WITH THE RADIATOR AND THE ONLY REASON I EVEN KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG WAS THAT MY GEARS WERE SWITCHING WEIRD. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A SIDE STREET, THENALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRANSMISSION WOULDN'T SWITCH GEARS. I TRIED PRESSING THE GAS TO GO AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT GO. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING, HOWEVER I COULDN'T GRAB ANY GEARS TO GO. I GOT IT TOWED TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP, THEY TOLD ME THAT MY RADIATOR FLUID IS LEAKING INTO MY TRANSMISSION WHICH MADE MY TRANSMISSION LOCK UP. BASICALLY, IT READS: NISSAN HAS EXTENDED YOUR VEHICLE'S NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY AS IT APPLIES TO THE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY TO 96 MONTHS/80,000 MILES (WHICHEVER COMES FIRST)...NISSAN NORTH AMERICA WBI/10-029. WHEN MY HUSBAND, SCOTT, CONTACTED OUR LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIPS SERVICE DEPARTMENT, HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE COMPONENT WOULD HAVE TO FAIL BEFORE THEY COULD DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. ACCORDING TO OTHER NHTSA COMPLAINTS FROM NISSAN PATHFINDER OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THE COMPONENT FAIL, IT SOMETIMES CAUSES TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL (LACK OF ENGINE POWER THROUGHPUT TO PROVIDE MOBILITY). I OWN A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER AND HAVE BEEN DOING ALL THE REQUIRED MAINTENANCE ON IT IN A VERY TIMELY MANNER. IT IS A VERY WELL MAINTAINED SUV AND HAD ONLY 49,997 MILES ON IT. I GOT A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE ON IT FOR THE ECM RELAY ISSUED AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. I WAS ALSO EXPERIENCING SOME WHINING NOISES. THE SERVICE DEALER ADVISOR AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT MY TIMING CHAINS HAD A PROBLEM AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE SAID THIS WAS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND COULD LEAD TO ENGINE DAMAGE AND IS A POTENTIAL ROAD HAZARD. HE ALSO SAID IT NEEDED TO BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY, AS THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM, THAT HAD BEEN EXPERIENCED BY A NUMBER OF OTHER CUSTOMERS AND THAT NISSAN MOTOR CO. HAD ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN NTB09-128 REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. I AM REALLY SURPRISED THAT NISSAN DID NOT THINK IT WAS NECESSARY TO COMMUNICATE THIS PIECE OF IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO ALL ITS CUSTOMERS. MY SON WHO IS 21 YEARS OLD DRIVES THIS SUV ON SKI TRIPS AND I AM REALLY ALARMED THAT THIS DEFECT WHICH WAS KNOWN TO NISSAN COULD HAVE LEAD TO SOME SERIOUS ROAD HAZARDS. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE IPDM IN NOVEMBER 2010, THE TRUCK STOPPED RUNNING IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, WE HAD 118,000 MILES ON VEHICLE. IN JULY 2011, WE WERE ON VACATION IN INDIANA AND ON OUR WAY TO SEE FAMILY IN OHIO. WE WERE ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT EXCELLERATE OVER 40 - 45 MPH., WE STOPPED AT AN AUTOZONE TO TEST THE VEHICLE TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND IT CLEARED IT. SINCE THAT TIME, THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD PERIODICALLY COME ON. ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2011, THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START. THE TRUCK IS STILL AT THE MECHANIC TO BE REPAIRED, WE WERE ADVISED THE PROBLEM IS THE RADIATOR LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. COST IS $6,000 TO REPAIR AND TRUCK HAS 127,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS A CONSISTANT COMPLAINT OF OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE, HOWEVER, NISSAN DOES NOT WANT TO DO ANYTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. ENGINE SHUTOFF WITHOUT WARNING IN SEPTEMBER OF 2009, I STARTED TO HAVE SUDDEN ENGINE SHUTDOWNS IN MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. IT COULD OCCUR ANYTIME AND WAS COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE. THE MOST DANGEROUS TIMES WERE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THE SUGGESTED A NUMBER OF POSSIBILITIES AND CHECKED VARIOUS ITEMS WITHOUT SUCCESS. I WROTE THE NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT (NOV 17, 2009) AND EXPLAINED MY SITUATION AND THE DANGER AFTER AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED THE PROBLEM TO BE A COMPUTER DEVICE CALLED THE "INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE" OR IPDM. AT THE TIME OF MY PROBLEM THIS DEVICE WAS ON BACK ORDER BECAUSE OF THE DEMAND FOR THEM. I PAID TO HAVE MY IPDM REPLACED BECAUSE OF THE VERY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM OF THE ENGINE SHUT-OFF WITHOUT WARNING, SINCE THE DEVICE WAS REPLACED, I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE SHUTOFF AND MY VEHICLE RUNS FINE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE VEHICLE STARTING SHAKING AS IF SHE WAS DRIVING OVER A GROOVED PAVEMENT. SHE DROVE HOME A PARKED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND SHE WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR NEEDED REPLACING BECAUSE THEY WERE LEAKING FLUIDS. THE COST FOR THE REPAIRS WAS $5,900. MY WIFE AND I WERE OUT SHOPPING IN OUR 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER SE. ON THE WAY HOME THE SUV JUST STOPPED RUNNING ON A BUSY INTERSECTION. THE FUEL GAUGE READ AT HALF. HOWEVER, SHE HAD RECENTLY FILLED UP THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL SENSOR FAILED. THE FUEL SYSTEM SENSOR WAS RESET. A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER, WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO PARK AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. I STARTED HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY CAR EXCEEDING AS I WOULD PUSH THE GAS PETAL. THIS STARTED HAPPENING AROUND 140,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IN TO A MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT IT MAY BE THE RADIATOR. I PURCHASED A NEW RADIATOR AND AS HE PUT IT IN HE SAID IT LOOKED AS IF THE FLUIDS WERE MIXED. I PUT ALL NEW FLUIDS IN THE CAR. STILL I COULDN'T GET THE CAR TO EXCEED PAST 30 MPH. I PARKED THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE COST IN REPAIR. I FINALLY TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS MY TRANSMISSION THAT WAS GONE IN THE CAR.

NEARLY GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN MY CAR STARTED JERKING OUT OF CONTROL AND THEN SLOWED DOWN DRASTICALLY TO LESS THAN 30 MPH MILES AWAY FROM AN EXIT RAMP. MY PATHFINDER HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM. LESS THAN 100,000 MILES AND STILL UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. WHEN I CALLED TO ASK THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO CONFIRM WHAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, THEY SAID THE MY TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REPLACED FROM THE DAMAGE BY THE COOLANT. A FLUSH WOULD BE A PATCH FIX THAT MAY NOT WORK, AND ONLY LAST A MONTH BEST. MY RADIATOR HAS TO BE REPLACED- MY CAR IS OVERHEATING BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE. AND MY ENGINE HAS TO BE COMPLETELY FLUSHED OUT- IF NOT TOTALLY REPLACED BECAUSE OF THE COOLANT FLOWING INTO THE ENGINE AS WELL. OVER $4000 POSSIBLY AS HIGH AS $8000 ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THEY CAN'T EVEN REPAIR IT BECAUSE ITS SO BAD MY CAR HAS TO BE SENT OFF. WARRANTY COMPANY DENIED THE CLAIM BECAUSE THE ISSUE IS CAUSED BY FAULTY PART "TRANSMISSION COOLER" WHICH EVERYONE IS AWARE OF AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I PAID $20,000 CASH FOR MY VEHICLE A YEAR AGO! NISSAN LOST A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT EARLIER THIS YEAR FOR THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN DAMAGES, AND I AM TOO LATE TO FILE. AFTER RECEIVING A COMPLIMENTARY MULTI-POINT INSPECTION FROM THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP, MY WIFE TOLD ME THAT ON THE WAY HOME THAT THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO NOT WANT TO SHIFT PROPERLY. WENT TO CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FOUND THAT THE DIPSTICK IS LOCKED INTO PLACE. DID SOME QUICK RESEARCH TO FIND OUT HOW TO CHECK FLUID LEVEL AND THEN FOUND OUT ABOUT ISSUE WITH NISSAN PATHFINDERS RADIATORS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION COOLING SYSTEM. CHECKED RADIATOR AND FOUND FROTHING FOAM ON THE INSIDE OF THE PRESSURE CAP INDICATING THAT THE RADIATOR HAD FAILED. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP AND ASKED THEM WHY THE SECTION OF THE INSPECTION FOR THE COOLING SYSTEM AND TRANSMISSION SYSTEM WERE CHECKED AS "OK". DID NOT RECEIVE AN ANSWER. ALSO, WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED BY NISSAN ABOUT THE ISSUE WITH RADIATOR IN OUR NISSAN. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY PARKED SINCE THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WOULD COST UP TO $3000 DOLLARS IN REPAIRS UNDER THE AGREEMENT REACHED. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS WAS NOT A RECALL. I'M ONE OF MANY VICTIMS THAT HAVE ENDURED FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNITS AND INACCURATE GAS GAUGES THAT CAUSE ME TO RUN OUT OF GAS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. WITH SUCH A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM, IT IS A PURE SCAM THAT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. NISSAN SIMPLY EXTENDS THE WARRANTY TO 72,000 MILES, WHICH DOES NOTHING TO HELP THE THOUSANDS OF VICTIMS WITH MORE MILEAGE. JUST AS THEY DID WITH THE RADIATOR DEFECT THAT CONTAMINATED THE TRANSMISSION, NISSAN IS GETTING AWAY WITH OFFERING HELP UP ONLY TO THE POINT WHEN THE PROBLEM BEGINS TO APPEAR. THIS MAKES THEM APPEAR THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING, BUT THEY ARE DOING NOTHING FOR THE VAST MAJORITY OF VICTIMS. HOW CAN YOU LET THEM GET AWAY WITH THIS APPROACH? I BOUGHT THIS CAR ON GOOD FAITH KNOWING NISSAN IS A QUALITY PRODUCT AND THIS IS NOW HAPPENING. THEY SAID CHANCES WERE IT WOULD BE COVERED. IT WAS NOT COVERED! I WAS INFORMED BY THEIR CONSUMER AFFAIR PEOPLE IF THERE WAS INFACT A RECALL I MAY BE NOTIFIED FOR REIMBURSEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND RETURNED TO THE CONTACT HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED THE NEXT DAY. THE CONTACT HAD THE BATTERY REPLACED ONCE AGAIN HOWEVER, THE BATTERY FAILED FOR THE THIRD TIME. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE THEY DISCOVERED A DEFECTIVE RADIATOR WHICH CAUSED FLUID TO LEAK INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN DIAGNOSED WITH ENGINE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.

I TOOK MY TRUCK IN BECAUSE OF THE SERVICE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT AND THE TECH REPORTED CATALYTIC CONVERTER, HEATER HOSE VACUUM & VALVE, POWER STEERING HOSE, AND TIRE GPS. WE HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK IN FOR THE 3RD WINTER SEASON AND NOW THEY ARE SAYING IT COST $725 DOLLARS TO REPAIR THE ISSUE. FOR 3 YEARS WE HAVE TAKEN IT IN AND THEY FLUSHED THE SYSTEM, REPLACE A SENSOR, AND NOW THIS? ALSO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER COSTING $1380 AND POWER STEERING HOSE AT $305. 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER WAS LOCKING UP & STALLING AT LOW SPEEDS JUNE 2013. I TOOK IT TO NISSAN & PAID $400 FOR SUPPOSEDLY A BAD CAMSHAFT & BAD CRANKSHAFT. NOT MORE THAN A MONTH LATER THE VEHICLE IS STALLING YET AGAIN. FURIOUS I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A NON NISSAN DEALER. THE OTHER MECHANIC FELT ECM RECALL & FAULTY ECM WAS THE CAUSE. HE TOOK IT BACK TO NISSAN & INSISTED THE DO THE RECALLED PART & THE BAD ECM. SERVICE WAS UPSET THAT HE WENT IN THERE TELLING THEM THE PROBLEM. THEY FREE OF CHARGE GOT MY CAR GOING AGAIN. SUPPOSEDLY MY KEY HAD "RESET" ITSELF. WHICH "COULD BE CAUSED BY A BATTERY BEING DEAD FOR TOO LONG OR BEING JUMP STARTED". OUR BATTERY WAS NEW & ONLY MAYBE 6 MONTHS OLD. TUESDAY MORNING AFTER DROPPING MY CHILDREN OFF AT SCHOOL, I HAD JUST MADE A LEFT HAND TURN THROUGH AN INTERSECTION IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. I WAS TRAVELING APPROX. 45 MPH WHEN BAM!....MY CAR ALL BUT STALLED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME, I COULD BARELY GET THE CAR TO STEER AND HAD TROUBLE GETTING ENOUGH JUICE TO PULL IT OVER SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, I SEE THAT NISSAN RADIATORS ARE DEFECTIVE; THEY RUPTURE AND ALLOW THE COOLANT TO SPILL OVER INTO THE COOLANT SYSTEM IN TRANSMISSION, CONTAMINATING BOTH AND RUINING BOTH RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. THERE ARE COUNTLESS STORIES OF PEOPLE STALLING IN TRAFFIC OR COMPLETELY LOSING ENOUGH ACCELERATION POWER IN A VERY ABRUPT MANNER THAT SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET VERY HURT, IF NOT DIE. WHAT IF MY KIDS HAD BEEN IN THE CAR WITH ME? WHAT IF WE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN HEAVIER TRAFFIC IN DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES? THE THOUGHT OF THIS MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMACH. 8-9-2010 I BEGAN HAVING DIFFICULTY GETTING MY CAR TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE. AT ABOUT 40,000 MILES FUEL GAUGE STOPPED WORKING. AND STARTED HAVING INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. HEADLIGHTS GOING ON AND OFF WHEN IN PARK. FAN STARTING WHEN KEY IS TURNED BUT NOT CRANKED. ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM LOCKING ME OUT FROM STARTING THE TRUCK. 70000 MILES VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY NOT START. IT WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START. TOOK IT TO NISSAN AND WAS TOLD NOTHING COULD BE DONE ON THEIR PART. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE ECU, BMU,TMU, AND IPDM WERE ALL BAD. I REPLACED THE IPDM AND BMU AND ECU. TRUCK STILL RAN ROUGH. AT 91000 MILES NISSAN NOW SAYS MY TRANSMISSION IS BAD DUE TO THE RADIATOR COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION BUT I AM OUT OF THE 80000 MILE WARRANTY. IN MARCH 2010 WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP FOR A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYING ON AND THE FUEL GAUGE MALFUNCTIONING. THE PROBLEMS DISCOVERED WERE A FUEL SENDING UNIT FAILURE AND AN EVAP AIR CONTROL VALVE FAILURE. ESTIMATED REPAIRS COST AROUND $1300. WE WERE TOLD THE FUEL SENDING ISSUE DID NOT EFFECT FUEL DELIVERY SO WE ELECTED TO WAIT AND SAVE UP FOR THE COSTLY REPAIR. ON OCT. 23, 2010 WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES STIFFENED AND THE VEHICLE DIED WHILE CROSSING TRAFFIC LEAVING A STOP SIGN. IT STARTED ROUGH AND WE PROCEEDED TO A FUEL STATION THINKING THE BROKEN FUEL GAUGE REPORTED FUEL IN AN EMPTY TANK. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO FUEL THE VEHICLE IT ONLY TOOK ABOUT 4 GALLONS. THE TANK HAD PLENTY OF FUEL. THIS STALLING AND DIEING THEN HAPPENED MORE TIMES IN TRAFFIC CAUSING US TO BARELY MANEUVER OUT OF THE LANE TO SAFETY. EACH TIME IT DIED IT WAS ROUGH TO START, BUT STARTED. WE MADE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT FOR NOV. 12, 2010 TO HAVE THIS LOOKED AT AND GET THE FUEL SENDING UNIT REPAIRED UNDER THE NEW WARRANTY EXTENSION (THANK YOU NISSAN!). ON NOV 11, 2010 AFTER PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE THE VEHICLE DIED AGAIN AND THIS TIME WOULD NOT START. AS A RESULT OF OUR LOCATION (NO LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP), WE THEN HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED (AT OUR EXPENSE) 38 MILES TO THE NEAREST DEALER TO LOOK AT IT. WE ALSO HAD TO CANCEL OUR ORIGINAL APPOINTMENT FOR SERVICE AT ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. THEY INFORMED US THAT THE NEW NON-STARTING AND STALLING PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY IGNITION POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE (IPDM). THIS IPDM IS A KNOWN RECALL ISSUE IN OTHER 2004-06 NISSANS BUT PATHFINDER WAS NOT LISTED. OUR NEW ESTIMATE TO REPLACE THE IPDM SO IT WILL START AND RUN IS APPROXIMATELY $700. THE IPDM FAILURE ALMOST CAUSED MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS, STALLING IN TRAFFIC. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NISSAN USED A DIFFERENT IPDM IN JUST THE PATHFINDER AND WILL OWN-UP AND RECALL THEIR MISTAKE.

THE DEALER ORDERED THE BODY CONTROL MODULE, AND WAS CURRENTLY TALKING TO NISSAN TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. ON 2/4/07, THE CONTACT ADVISED THE DEALER THAT THE HEATER VENT CONTROL MOTOR THAT ADJUSTS THE VENTS WAS CONSTANTLY ON BLOWER MODE. THE HEATER VENT CONTROL WOULD NOT CHANGE TO THE DEFROST POSITION WHEN SELECTED. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VENT MODULATOR MOTOR ,AND THE HEATER FAILURE WAS RESOLVED. THE CONTACT WANTED THE SEAT BELT WARNING SYSTEM REPAIRED PRIOR TO THE WARRANTY EXPIRING. PURCHASED 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER FEB 2006. 1ST VISIT TO DEALERSHIP FOR MAINTENANCE REQUESTED DEALERSHIP TO CHECK THE DIRECTIONAL STABILITY (WANDERING) OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE VIOLENT SHAKING WHEN THE VEHICLE HITS A BUMP ON THE FREEWAY AT SPEEDS OF 50 MPH OR HIGHER. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THAT THEY ADJUSTED AIR IN TIRES. TIRE PRESSURE PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT WAS 35 PSI; AFTER APPOINTMENT TIRE PRESSURE WAS 35 PSI. 3-13-06/ 2ND VISIT TO DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CHANGE AT 2500 MILES AND ISSUE OF DIRECTIONAL STABILITY STILL CAUSING VEHICLE TO WANDER. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE MECHANIC HAD ADJUSTED THE CAM AND TOE OF THE FRONT END AND THE ALIGNMENT WAS CHECKED FOR ACCURACY. THE DIRECTIONAL STABILITY WAS IMPROVED, BUT NOT TO ACCEPTABLE STANDARDS. 3RD VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND MY REQUEST TO ROTATE TIRES. AGAIN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WANDERS AND VIOLENTLY SHAKES WHEN HITTING ANY BUMP. DEALERSHIP CHANGED OIL, ROTATED TIRES AND TEST DROVE THE 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. I WAS ADVISED WANDERING AND SHAKING WAS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS NOTHING MORE NISSAN COULD DO. THE WANDERING WAS ATTRIBUTED TO TALL TIRES, SHORT WHEEL BASE AND NO LOAD. I CONTACTED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA AND FILED A COMPLAINT:#5332144. MY AREA'S REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE FROM NNA ADVISED ME TO HAVE A CERTIFIED NISSAN MECHANIC FROM A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP GO ON A DRIVE-ALONG TO EXPERIENCE THE ISSUE OF WANDERING AND VIOLENT SHAKING. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A DIFFERENT NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND RODE AS THEIR "LEAD TECH" DROVE MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. HE EXPERIENCED THE WANDERING AND VIOLENT SHAKING. HE ADVISED THAT THOSE WERE ALL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE AND I WAS ADVISED IF I HAD ANY FURTHER ISSUES I COULD WRITE A LETTER OF COMPLAINT TO NNA. CERTIFIED MECHANICS FORM NNA HAVE IDENTIFIED A SERIOUS SAFETY CHARACTERISTIC OF MY VEHICLE. HOWEVER,THEY ARE OF THE OPINION THAT CHARACTERISTIC IS ACCEPTABLE. *JB

WHILE DRIVING BELOW 25 MPH, THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION TWICE. THE MECHANIC WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. A WEEK LATER WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25-30 MPH, THE CONSUMER HEARD THE SAME LOUD KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. SUDDENLY THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL CAME OFF CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO HAVE DIFFICULTY MAINTAINING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER MANAGED TO PULL OVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE CAUSE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED AT THIS TIME. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THAT A SINCE THE FIRST DAY AN INTERMITTENT NOISE LIKE A SCRAPPING NOISE WAS HEARD WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AT IDLE SPEED. THE NOISE DISAPPEARED BY APPLYING GENTLE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE AND WOULD REAPPEAR AAIN WHEN RELEASING THE BRAKE. AFTER 500 MILES THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE INVOICE LABELED THE PROBLEM AS A BAFFLE PLATE RUBBING AGAINST THE ROTOR. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT HE STILL HAS TEMPORARY TAGS ON HIS VEHICLE BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP LOST THE ORIGINAL PAPERWORK. WHEN THE VEHICLE TIRE CAME OFF 4 OF THE 6 WHEEL MOUNTING STUDS WERE MISSING AND THE TWO THAT WERE PRESENT WERE LOOSE. THE BRAKE DRUM WAS MOVING AND THE FENDER WAS DENTED. *TC
