ENGINE
52 complaints
Engine failure in my vehicle equipped with the VQ35DD engine, which I believe is the result of a widespread and well-documented design defect involving internal sludge buildup. I have owned this vehicle for over five years and have followed the recommended routine maintenance schedule, including on-time oil changes using high-quality oil. At no point during any inspection, service, or maintenance appointment was I informed of any sludge buildup or concerns with the engine. Only after a serious mechanical failure did the Nissan servicing dealership claim the engine was full of sludge, subsequently recommending an engine replacement. Despite my diligence in maintaining the vehicle, I am now facing an engine replacement that was entirely unexpected and has created a safety risk due to loss of motive power. This could have resulted in a serious accident, and I believe this issue merits urgent and transparent attention. Upon researching this issue, I found dozens of similar complaints from other owners with VQ35DD engines, many of whom reported premature engine failure, sludge accumulation, and PCV system defects—despite maintaining their vehicles properly. This issue is being widely discussed on forums, including: [XXX] [XXX] It is unacceptable that Nissan has not issued a technical service bulletin, recall, or extended warranty to address this problem, particularly when it may stem from a known defect in the PCV system or engine design (such as poor oil flow, crankcase ventilation failure, or GDI-related contamination). Given the facts outlined above and the potential safety hazard, a full investigation should be taken to help Nissan customers. Timing chain failure at 88,000 miles on well maintained vehicle. Could cause catastrophic engine failure. No leading indicator.
Sep 22, 2025
PCV Valve hose clogging rendering system useless and resulting in sludge buildup in engine. The sludge buildup causes issues with timing chain lubrication and ultimately destroys the guides causing excessive engine rattling, aluminum flakes in the engine. Causes loss of power, numerous different engine codes, and ultimately catastrophic failure of engine. Hise collapses within itself and prevents proper crankcase ventilation. See attached pictures.

On Sunday [XXX] while driving to Savannah Georgia to attend a funeral my 2017 Nissan Pathfinder broke down. I was able to coast off the road out of traffic in the pouring rain. I had the vehicle towed to Statesboro tire and brake in Statesboro Georgia who was in network with my extended warranty company. On May 20th 2024 I was told the engine failed due to metal in the oil. They opened a claim and diagnosed the issue. The warranty company requested the oil pan be dropped and pictures to be submitted to them to continue with the claim. Upon further inspection there was sludge and noticeable metal in the oil pan. My extended warranty company denied the claim. I asked if i could submit my maintenance records to prove the vehicle had been maintained. I was told no by the warranty company and statesboro tire and brake didn't even submit them for me. So I had to pay for the work test had been done and have the vehicle towed back to Grovetown Ga. which is where I live. I contacted Nissan consumer relations at this point not knowing what else to do. They opened a claim and I then had the vehicle towed to the Nissan dealership near me. Which they did another diagnosis and the claim through them was also denied. I purchased this vehicle used from CarMax in Augusta Georgia with 41502 miles on it. Upon purchasing the vehicle I maintained the vehicle keeping up with all of the manufacturers recommendations for maintenance and service. I contacted CarMax to see if they could do anything because they are who I purchased the vehicle from. The service manager at CarMax was able to submit my records to the extended warranty company and the claim was approved. The engine is being replaced after almost 6 months of persistence. It is a used engine but at least it's a new engine to me. On [XXX] the vehicle had 100573 miles. There were no warning lights. The vehicle had no issues until it just died on that date. The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the road and attempted to jumpstart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the property and was later towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed but no cause for the failure was identified. The contact stated that several weeks afterwards, the display screen went black before the vehicle lost motive power. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the road and attempted to jump start the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle shut off as soon as the contact arrived at the local dealer. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer where it was diagnosed but no cause for the failure was identified. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

My Nissan pathfinder has consistently had a AC compressor unit replacement several times. There is OBVIOUSLY a sealing issue on this part /vehicle. It’s absolutely unacceptable to replace a AC compressor unit 3 times within the 5 years of owning this vehicle.

Thursday 9/12/24 6:38 am temp 71 degrees. Driving on interstate and my 2017 Nissan Pathfinder sunroof exploded in the middle of the glass. No rocks were found. I reviewed dash cam front and rear footage and did not find any evidence of a vehicle close enough to throw a rock on the car.

The Nissan CVT transmission on my low mileage Nissan Pathfinder 2017 with 90k miles is showing that there is an issue with transmission. it can stop working while driving and it can be an issue with safety if you are driving anywhere. it can potentially cause loss of life of my family or others.

We have just under 80,000 miles on this & the transmission has started slipping. Pulled into an intersection after slowing (we were on the right-of-way), turned right to go up a hill & transmission hesitated. Car shuddered, then tranny kicked in & up the hill we went. We've noticed similar issues when moving from a 'slowing' motion to accelerating - highway lane changes when passing, etc. The hill thing was a stunner.

3 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING MY VEHICLE BRAND NEW WITH 0 MILES THE BACK SEAT WARMERS STOPPED WORKING AND THE BACK LIFT GATE STOPPED WORKING. THE HATCH HAD A RECALL ON ELECTRICAL. THAT WAS REPLACED BUT DID NOT STOP THE ISSUE. THE LIFT GATE CONTINUED TO BE OFF AND ON WITH ITS FUNCTION. AT 38K MILES WHILE DRIVING MY CAR SHUT DOWN WITH COMPLETE POWER LOSS WITH A NO KEY DETECTION. CAR WAS TOWED, NO CODE THROWN, BATTER WAS CORRODED AFTER JUST BEING SERVICED 3 DAYS PRIOR WITH 0 CORROSION. WINDOWS WERE SLOW TO ROLL DOWN JUMPED BATTERY AND WAS THEN JUST REPLACED. THE ISSUES CONTINUED WITH WINDOWS BEING SLOW AND THEN TO THE POINT I WAS HAVING TO FORCE AND ASSIST THE WINDOW MANUALLY TO ROLL THEM UP. AGAIN MY CAR WOULD NOT START 3 MONTHS LATER. THE CAR WAS JUMPED AT HOME. 6 MONTHS AFTER INITIAL LOSS OF POWER IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE GOING 75 MILES AN HOUR DURING 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC. COMPLETE ELECTRICAL FAILURE RESULTING IN HAVING TO PULL OVER TO INSIDE SHOULDER. COULD NOT BE JUMPED AND WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. THIS MAKES THE 7TH TIME AT A DEALERSHIP WITH ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH NO CODES AND A 24 HOUR DIAGNOSTIC TEST ADMINISTERED. MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY CHILDREN WERE AT HIGH RISK MULTIPLE TIMES AND WAS TRAUMATIC TO ALL PARTIES INVOLVED. *TR

I'VE HAD NUMEROUS VEHICLES AND NEVER HAD TO REPLACE BRAKES OR TIRES WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG BECAUSE I AM SEEING THE SAME COMPLAINT FOR OTHER OWNERS. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED IN SEPT 2019 WITH LESS THAN 24K MILES AND I HELD OFF REPAIRING THE BRAKES UNTIL MARCH 2019. EITHER WAY A BRAND NEW VEHICLE WITH THAT MILEAGE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO HAVE THOSE REPAIRS

Airbag light blinks all the time. DTC B00A0-00 (OCCUPANT DETECTION SENSOR UNIT). I can't reset it even I tried everything using "diagnostic mode" with ignition on/off process or OBD II tool. Nissan has Service Bulletin NTB19-071 which includes my vehicle year(2017) in it, but I couldn't find it from the recall case. Only 2013~2016 Pathfinder has recall history with NTB16-054a. I think 2017 also have same issue. There's no issue to drive so far with airbag light blinking, but I'm not sure if the airbag will be deployed when it needs to do.

Low beam headlamps becoming to dim to safely see at night resulting in having to replace entire headlamp Replacing bulb made no difference
Oct 06, 2024
Recently, I have noticed that my SUV has not had good luminating ability so I naturally assumed it was a faulty or weak bulb. I have since then changed the bulbs to LED and still the same issue exists, I cannot see 3 feet in front of me at night. It is a danger to me, my occupants and others. It seems that the headlamp assembly is delaminating from the inside causing the reflective piece to become ineffective, regardless of how strong of a bulb you have. I researched this issue and seems to be prevalent in Nissans, in fact, Nissan had a recall on their Nissan Altima headlamps for the same reason. That recall ended last year but did not include my vehicle. Please help me since each assembly is approximately $250-$300 each, plus installation.

the low beams are dangerously dim, for a car of just 4 years old with the original OEM Lights, the light bulbs were replaced, and the lights are still low, I have to use the high beams in order to see anything.

DRIVER SIDE FOG LIGHT BRACKET BROKE, FOG LIGHT FLEW BACK INTO TRANSMISSION COOLER, TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP, THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NO IMPACT TO THE LIGHT NOR THE VEHICLE, THAT THE 4 METAL CLIPS ON THE BRACKET SOME HOW BROKE OFF AND THAT THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS COULD HAVE HAPPEN, THEY STATED THEY WERE SENDING THE PART TO NISSAN FOR THEM TO INVESTIGATE AS POSSIBLE FAULTY MATERIAL. THE FOG LIGHT COULD HAVE STRUCK AND DESTROYED THE COOLERS THAT SIT BEHIND IT. THEY REPLACED THE FOG LIGHT HOUSING. VEHICLE WAS BEING PULLED INTO DRIVEWAY WHEN A CLUNKING SOUND WAS HEARD, WHEN CHECKING IS WHEN IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE LIGHT WAS NOT IN THE HOUSING AND WAS LAYING INSIDE THE BUMPER ONLY BEING HELD IN BY THE WIRING

HAVE JUST UNDER 40,000 MILES ON MY 2017 NISSAN PATHFINDER AND MY COOLING FAN LITERALLY WOBBLES AS IT SPINS MAKING A LOUD NOISE. IT CONTINUES TO MAKE THIS NOISE AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN TURNED OFF UNTIL THE FAN STOPS SPINNING. I RESEARCHED THIS AND IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. A FAN SHOULDN'T GIVE OUT IN LESS THAN 40,000 MILES AND THE DEALER QUOTED ME $1000-1400 FOR PARTS AND LABOR TO GET IT FIXED. WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS POSTED FOR YEARS NOW - THIS SHOULD BE A VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR NISSAN AS OBVIOUSLY THIS FAN IS A DEFECTIVE. WILL THINK TIWICE ABOUT ANOTHER NISSAN PRODUCT FOR SURE. HAD A HONDA THAT I DROVE OR 12 YEARS AND NEVER HAD 1 PROBLEM OUT OF IT.

WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR IS ENGAGED EITHER FOR AIR CONDITIONING OR DEFROST IT ACTIVATES A SECONDARY COOLING FAN ON THE RADIATOR. THIS FAN STARTED MAKING NOISE (GROWLING) AND VIBRATING. I INITIALLY THOUGHT IT WAS THE AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR. UPON PRESENTING THIS ISSUE TO THE DEALER THE SERVICE TECH. SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE COOLING FAN. HE ALREADY KNEW BEFORE HE EXAMINED THE CAR. ONCE THEY EXAMINED THE CAR THEY CONFIRMED THAT IS WAS THE FAN. COST TO ME OVER $1000.00 THIS NOISE HAPPENED ANYTIME ANYPLACE WHEN THE ENGINE WAS ON AND THE COMPRESSOR ENGAGED.

CAR CONSTANTLY STUTTERS, WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IT FEELS LIKE WHEN YOU RUN OUT OF GAS, I'VE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR WHICH IS UNRESOLVED AND UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED WHEN NEEDED TO BE FOUND. THE 2 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE THE FAN WENT OUT. I'VE REPLACED THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR AND STILL SAME ISSUE. THE TOUCH SCREEN GOES BLACK AND ALSO IS NO LONGER WORKING. ALL PROBLEMS STARTED RIGHT AFTER WARRANTY ENDED. I'VE BEEN STRANDED MULTIPLE TIMES IN DIFFERENT CITIES. WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY AND ON IT BLOWS OUT WHITE SMOKE AFTER A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME. I'M SCARED TO PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC BECAUSE THE HESITATION AND THE FEELING OF IT GOING TO LOSE POWER.

I have had so many problems with my vehicle. I have spend so much on auto repair. Latest one I took in to a local mechanic and he diagnosed it with transmission issue with a timer. It’s hard to go from 30 to 40mph. He also looked it up and said there’s a recall. I called my local Nissan dealer and was told my vehicle is not under the recall. Every dealers being asking me if I have transmission issues and I finally said yes trying to trade my vehicle. They mentioned Nissan has transmission issues.

LOUD KNOCKING NOICE COMING FROM ENGINE, AFTER RESEARCH AND DEALER CHECKUP IT APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR THESE 2014-2018 PATHFINDERS. THE PROBLEM TYPICALLY OCCURS AROUND 50-60K MILES WHICH IS OUTSIDE OF THE MANUFACTURES WARRANTY. MINE BEGAN AROUND 50K, ANYTIME MY ENGINE GETS HOT AND BOTH FANS KICK ON THE COOLING FAN ASSEMBLY STARTS VIOLENTLY VIBRATING (I HAVE VIDEO WITH SOUND). THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE VIBRATING IS TO TURN OFF THE A/C WHICH IN OUR TEXAS SUMMER HEAT REACHING OVER 100 DEGREES IS UNREALISTIC CONSIDERING I USE THIS AS A FAMILY VEHICLE. IF YOU LOOK AT ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS REPORTED YOU AND DO A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH YOU WILL SEE THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND NISSAN IS FULLY AWARE OF IT AND IN MY OPINION SHOULD BE LIABLE FOR INSTALLING A FAULTY FAN. I WAS QUOTED $950 TO REPLACE THE BAD COOLING FAN ASSEMBLY PART BY THE DEALERSHIP. IT IS MY SINCERE HOPES THAT A FULL INVESTIGATION IS DONE AND A RECALL IS ISSUED FOR THE NUMBER ONE COMPLAINT WITH THIS VEHICLE.

I PURCHASED MY 2017 NISSAN PRE-OWNED WITH 40,000 MILES AND I HAVE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 4 MONTHS. THE BACK UP CAMERA WILL SPORADICALLY STAY ON WHILE IN DRIVE UNTIL YOU STOP AND TAKE IT OUT OF DRIVE. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN AND THEY CAN'T GET IT TO DUPLICATE SO THEY CAN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. I ALSO STARTED HAVING LOAD NOISES COMING FROM THE ENGINE WHILE THE A/C WAS RUNNING. COME TO FIND OUT IT IS THE RADIATOR COOLING FAN ASSEMBLY WAS SHAKING AROUND AND NOW I HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED! I HAVE NOW DONE RESEARCH AND FOUND THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT NISSAN DOESN'T WANT TO ADDRESS OR DO A RECALL ON. SEEING AS THAT PATHFINDERS FROM 2014-2018 MOST AROUND 30K TO 50K HAVE BEEN AFFECTED YET SOMEHOW THESE ISSUES ARE NOT OF CONCERN. I CALLED NISSAN AND SHE TOOK MY COMPLAINT BUT DID LET ME KNOW THAT THIS HAS NOT BE ADDRESSED AS AN ISSUE BY NISSAN. I REALLY LOVE MY NISSAN PATHFINDER BUT I AM SO DISAPPOINTED NOW BY THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DOING RIGHT BY THE CUSTOMER IS NOT A CONCERN OF NISSAN.

I BOUGHT MY CAR USED ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. IT HAS 47K MILE ON IT NOW AND ABOUT 4 DAYS AGO WHILE DRIVING IT I STARTED HEARING A LOUD BUZZING/RATTLING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. I PULLED OVER IN A PARKING LOT AND OPENED THE HOOD AND FOUND THE RADIATOR/COOLING FAN ASSEMBLY SHAKING AROUND LIKE IT WAS TOTALLY OUT OF BALANCE. I SHUT OFF THE A/C SYSTEM AND THE FAN STOPS SHAKING. SINCE THIS OCCURRED I HAVE TALKED TO NUMEROUS PEOPLE ONLINE THAT STATE THIS VERY THING HAS HAPPENED TO THEM ON PATHFINDERS RANGING FROM 2014-2018 AND IT ALL SEEMED TO HAPPEN AROUND 40-50K MILES AND NISSAN WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. THIS SEEMS LIKE A HUGE ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND ADDRESSED. THANK YOU

The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power without warning. Due to the failure, another vehicle crashed into the vehicle at a low rate of speed. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. Due to the snowy weather, the contact was advised by the police that both drivers pull off to the nearest exit and exchange information. A Police report was not filed. No medical assistance was required; however, the contact did sustain mental trauma due to the sudden failure. After the contact exchanged information with the other driver, the failure occurred two more time before she reached her destination. The contact stated that the low battery warning light appeared on the instrument panel after the second failure and the traction control warning light appeared after the third failure. The contact attempted to reach the manufacturer but was informed that she had called after business hours. The vehicle was taken to a body shop where it remained in their possession for an inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 52,700.

LUCKILY I WAS NOT REAR ENDED. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES MY CAR STARTED NORMAL AND RAN FINE ON THE WAY HOME. THE CAR BEGAN MAKING A LOUD BUZZING NOISE AFTER REACHING 59,000 MILES. THE BUZZING IS SO LOUD IT CAN BE HEARD INDOORS AND ALL AROUND THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP NOTED THE POWER STEERING PUMP SHOULD BE REPLACED AND ADVISED TO CALL NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS SIX DAYS LATER TO INFORM ME THAT THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE $3,000.00 ESTIMATE THAT THE DEALERSHIP PROVIDED. NISSAN'S RESPONSE TO THE PROBLEM WAS YOU ARE TO FAR OUT OF WARRANTY TO ASSIST YOU. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE DEFECTIVE POWER STEERING PUMP COULD CREATE A HAZARDOUS DRIVING SITUATION WHEN I AM TRANSPORTING MY FAMILY. THE SOUND GETS LOUDER AND LOUDER THE LONGER YOU DRIVE THE VEHICLE. READING FORUMS AND DOING RESEARCH HAS BROUGHT ME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT NISAN IS BUYING AND HAS BEEN BUYING FAULTY RADIATOR FANS FOR YEARS. MY WIFE DOES NOTHING BUT DRIVE TO AND FROM WORK, AVERAGING AROUND 10K MILES A YEAR ON HER PATHFINDER UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND WE ARE BEING ASKED TO REPLACE A FAN THAT HAS MYSTERIOUSLY JUST STARTED MAKING ALL KINDS OF NOISE. NOT ONLY IS THIS A PROBLEM BUT IT'S CAUSING CONSUMERS TO SPEND UPWARDS OF $1000 TO REPLACE THIS. I HAVE RECENTLY FOUND A PATHFINDER FORUM WITH WELL OVER 450 RESULTS RELATED TO THIS PARTICULAR ITEM ONLY. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER NORMAL DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY SO THIS IS COMING OUT OF CONSUMER POCKETS. THIS ISN'T FAIR TO ME OR ANYONE ELSE THAT I HAVE SPOKEN TO. WHY WOULD THIS FAN JUST GO OUT FOR NO REASON OTHER THAN IT'S A FAULTY FAN WITH POOR WORKMANSHIP ASSOCIATED WITH THE PRODUCT. NISSAN DEALERSHIPS ARE MAKING A KILLING, $400 TO $600 JUST IN LABOR WITH ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS. IF YOU ALL GO TO PATHFINDERTALK.COM AND SEARCH RADIATOR FAN, YOU WILL FIND ALL OF THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FANS. IT'S FAULTY, IT'S DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE NISSAN SHOULD HAVE TO FLIP THE BILL FOR THIS IN THE FUTURE AND MAYBE THEY WILL THINK ABOUT THIS BEFORE THEY DECIDE TO BUY CHEAP MATERIALS AGAIN.

LOUD NOISE STARTED WHEN ENGINE WAS TURNED ON AND ON IDLE. WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE RADIATOR BLADE HITTING SOMETHING. WHAT OR WHY THIS HAPPENED THE LOCAL DEALER HAS NO CLUE OR EXPLANATION OTHER THEN "IT JUST HAPPENS ON SOME NISSANS" THE COST TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR FAN AND SHROUD IS ABOUT US$1000 ON A CAR THAT IS 39 MTHS OLD! MY VEHICLE RECEIVED A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. NISSAN APPARENTLY KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND HAVE NO IDEA ON HOW TO FIX IT. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I KEEP THE CAR FILLED TO HALF A TANK OR MORE SO I DO T GET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE ISSUE I HAVE IS IN THE OCCASION I LET THE CAR GET BELOW HALF A TANK AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON HOW CAN I TELL IF IT'S THE FUEL SYSTEM OR SOMETHING ELSE. IT TAKES APPROXIMATELY A WEEK OR MORE FOR THE LIGHT TO GO OFF AFTER REFILLING THE CAR. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR JUST OVER A YEAR. I'VE ASKED REPEATED TIMES FOR AN UPDATE WITH NO ANSWER.

WE'VE OWNED OUR 2017 PATHFINDER FOR 27 MONTHS, AND SINCE DAY 1 MY WIFE WHO IS UNDER 5' 1' HAS COMPLAINED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR IS BLOCKING HER VIEW WHEN TURNING. SHE CAN'T NATURALLY SEE WHAT'S ON THE LEFT SIDE WITHOUT ADJUSTING HER POSITION. THE SMALLER MURANO HAS A SMALLER MIRROR SIZE SEEMS LIKE A BETTER DESIGN AND I WISH COULD BE RETROFITTED FOR THE PATHFINDER. IT WOULD HELP IF THE SEAT COULD GO HIGHER, WHICH WE'VE FOUND ADDING A SEAT CUSHION HELPS. BUT GENERALLY THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS DESIGN THAT COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.

THE DRIVER SIDE MIRRORS ARE EXTREMELY HIGH ON THE FRAME TO SAFELY SEE WHEN TURNING AT AN INTERSECTION. IT BLOCKS THE VIEW OF THE DRIVER GREATLY. I CONSIDER THIS A HAZARD. IT IS A HUGE OBSTRUCTION OF VIEW, BECAUSE THE DRIVER CANNOT POSSIBLE HAVE A CLEAR VIEW OF INCOMING TRAFFIC SPECIALLY WHEN MAKING A TURN OR PEDESTRIANS. THIS HAS CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING IT AT AN INTERSECTION AND DAMAGE ON THE VEHICLE, I WAS DRIVING. THE MIRRORS IN MY OPINION ARE CONSIDER A DESIGN PROBLEM AND IT MUST BE FIX BEFORE IT CAN CAUSE MORE ACCIDENTS AND DISGRACE SOMEONES LIFE .

I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2017 PATHFINDER. I HAVE OWNED NISSAN PRODUCTS FOR MANY MANY YEARS AND APPRECIATE THE QUALITY AND SAFETY. HOWEVER, MY PATHFINDER HAS WHAT REALLY COULD BE A FATAL FLAW IN THAT THE SIDE MIRRORS, ESPECIALLY THE DRIVERS SIDE ARE TOO HIGH ON THE FRAME TO SAFELY SEE WHEN TURNING.. IT IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND A DEFINITE SAFETY HAZARD. IT IS A LARGE OBSTRUCTION OF VIEW AND COULD BE CORRECTED BY PLACING THE MIRRORS LOWER ON THE FAME. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN LIGHTLY, IT COULD COST LIVES AND VEHICLE DAMAGE AND COULD BE CORRECTED IN FUTURE DESIGN. I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR BACK ON THIS ISSUE AND SEE IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS. [XXX] 'INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

The Check Engine light turned on and took it to dealership on 12/14/24 and they stated that Throttle chamber may have issues. Used scanner and code P0101- Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit was read on scanner. Vehicle struggles to get air flow into engine causes speed to struggle when trying to accelerate.

WE OWN A 2015 AND A 2017 PLATINUM PATHFINDER BOTH WITH 25K MILES. THE 2017 HAS 20-30 MORE HORSEPOWER THAN THE 2015, BUT THE 2017 IS MUCH SLOWER. THE 2017 IS VERY SLUGGISH FROM 0-35MPH. THE ACCELERATION HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. I'VE PUT THE HIGHEST OCTANE IN AS INSTRUCTED BY NASHVILLE NISSAN; STILL SLOW. ACCELERATING UPHILL AT LOW RPMS MAKES THE ENGINE RATTLE (ABLE TO HEAR IT WHEN DRIVING BY A STRUCTURE TO BE ABLE TO HEAR THE SOUND REVERB OFF BACK TO VEHICLE). TRIED MULTIPLE DIFFERENT AIR FILTERS TO HELP ENGINE BREATHE, STILL SLOW. ANY HELP WILL HELP.

When traveling more than 10-15 miles, the FEB/ICC warning comes on without notice or reason, disables the cruise control and slows the car suddenly. There is no way to reset it without stopping the vehicle and restarting it. Took Service Bulletin NTB19-033a to the Action Nissan dealer in Nashville, TN. Despite it clearly indicating that my 2017 Nissan Pathfinder is covered, they claim it is not. This is a major safety issue that Nissan clearly has identified. It needs to be fixed.

MOST NOTABLY, WHEN I'M USING ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, MY CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGES AND MY CAR ALERTS ME THAT THE FEB [FORWARD EMERGENCY BRAKING] - AKA - AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING - IS "UNAVAILABLE" DUE TO "FRONT RADAR OBSTRUCTION" THIS HAPPENS AT VERY RANDOM TIMES, AT LEAST EVERY OTHER DAY, DURING NORMAL HIGHWAY AND CITY DRIVING. IT IS ALWAYS A CLEAR DAY, NEVER A DROP OF RAIN, NOT EVEN RUNNING OVER A RANDOM BUMP IN THE ROAD OR A POTHOLE. THEN RANDOMLY, ANYWHERE BETWEEN WHAT FEELS LIKE 5 - 30 MINUTES AFTER INITIAL ALERT, THE WARNING CLEARS ITSELF. I PURCHASED THE CAR USED IN JULY 2020 AND THIS HAS BEEN A CONSTANT ANNOYANCE EVER SINCE. I'M AWARE THAT OTHER NISSAN MODELS AROUND THE SAME YEAR (2017) HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME ISSUES WITH THE SENSOR.

Multiple times since ownership as of 11/09/2019 during hard braking the ABS system failed to engage and wheels locked for a portion of stopping; the ABS would hesitantly engage after a few sec on separate occasions. Simultaneously, the transmission disengaged into neutral causing power to the FWD to not respond for at least 10-60 seconds after the car had completely stopped to the ABS system notification. On 11/31/2022, I hard braked to avoid a collision with a white ford pickup and coasted to the side of the road. Shutting down and restarting the car had no effect. After approx. 3 mins the transmission engaged and I was able to move. A line of traffic was waiting.

OCTOBER 2019, I NOTICED A LOUD CLANKING NOISE ON OUR 2017 NISSAN PATHFINDER. I DO NOT LIVE NEAR DEALERSHIP, SO WE CALLED AND DESCRIBED SYMPTOMS. THE SERVICER REPORTED THAT WHILE HE COULDN'T DIAGNOSE WITHOUT SEEING THE VEHICLE, GUESSED OUR RADIATOR FAN NEEDED REPLACED DUE TO BEING A COMMON PROBLEM, NOT UNDER WARRANTY AT APPROXIMATELY 65K ($1800 EST.) COOLING FAN REPLACED BY LOCAL MECHANIC FOR APPROXIMATELY $600 WITH AN AFTERMARKET PART. THIS FAN IS IMPERATIVE IN KEEPING THE TEMPERATURE REGULATED AND CAN CAUSE FURTHER DAMAGE AND SAFETY CONCERNS. WHICH LEADS ME TO MY NEXT COMPLAINT. SUMMER 2020. I TAKE MY PATHFINDER TO MY MECHANIC (BRAKES, TIRES, OIL CHANGE). UPON PICK-UP, HE INFORMS OF GRITTY OIL THAT HE HAS NEVER NOTED IN PREVIOUS OIL CHANGES AND RECOMMENDS I CHANGE IT AGAIN, BEFORE MY ROUTINE 3-5K. I TAKE IT BACK A MONTH LATER, AUGUST 2020 FOR INSPECTION, OILED CHANGED AGAIN. WITHIN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNS ON. THE CODE IS READING A FUEL PRESSURE TEMP SENSOR. MECHANIC IS UNABLE TO LOCATE PART, EVEN FROM DEALERSHIP. I BEGIN HAVING ISSUES WITH ENGINE SURGING WHILE DRIVING/IDLING, RATTLING ENGINE, STALLING AT LIGHTS, ISSUES STARTING INCLUDING HESITANCY FOLLOWED BY REVVING. OVER TWO WEEKS, I WAS EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT FLASHING INDICATOR LIGHTS. NO MECHANIC, AUTO PARTS WAS ABLE TO FIND A CODE. I CALLED MY CLOSEST DEALERSHIP THE LAST WEEK OF AUGUST AND RECEIVED AN APPOINTMENT FOR 9/14, 3 WEEKS AWAY. I GREW CONCERNED WITH MY FAMILIES SAFETY EACH DRIVE AND BEGAN REACHING OUT TO OTHER DEALERS (2+ HRS AWAY). MY PATHFINDER WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER 9/4/20. DIAGNOSED WITH TIMING CHAIN, GUIDE, TENSIONER ISSUES. ESTIMATE $3100. IT HAS BEEN THERE 2 WEEKS TODAY AND THEY ARE STILL UNABLE TO GET PARTS NEEDED FOR REPAIR AND ARE UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN. MY FAMILIES ONLY VEHICLE, LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD, 75,000 MILES. NISSAN REFUSES TO HELP AT ALL.

Nissan Pathfinder vehicles to repair the CVT transmission fluid cooler hose (inter-cooler). The internal fluid cooler (ITOC) hose may detach from the cooler due to inadequate clamping force. Inter-coolers may overheat, fail operation causing leaks and possible fires. If this occurs, the CVT transmission fluid will begin to slowly leak and the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will illuminate on the instrument panel. If the MIL is ignored, the CVT transmission fluid will drain further, resulting in noise, vibration and possible fire. If this is ignored, eventually the CVT transmission will no longer operate properly and the The vehicle will stop accelerating, which could increase the risk of a crash and endangerment. Rear hatch on some 2017 Nissan Pathfinders. Specifically, some brackets used to attach the gas struts to the rear door (hatch) may be improperly made, potentially causing the struts to detach from the brackets when opening or closing the door. This could cause the hatch to fall rapidly, potentially striking someone. Identified as 18V-601, that includes the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder for a potential issue where the lift-gate (back hatch) may not lock properly, this will allow lift-gate to open while driving, not lock securely, potentially allowing someone to fall out of moving vehicle.

Is there anything can be done about this. It can easily become a safety hazard and potential loss of life. Shouldn’t there be a recall or resolution to this problem and Coustomer get reimbursement for money spent with this defective product.q

AC Auto Amp failed and no cold or hot air is coming out of the vents. Nissan has identified the problem in May 2024 and as of September 2024 they still have not sourced a part that can be used to repair the issue. Safety was put at risk in two ways. First the windshield defroster and defogger do not work. When fog begins to appear on the windshield it affects visibility and has to be wiped off manually while driving. In summer months the temperature of the cabin is excessively hot which can be unsafe over long drives. Nissan has provided no ETA for being able to fix this and the cold NorthEast winter months are coming where it will get dangerously cold. This can be unsafe over long drives in sub freezing temps.

While driving at a speed of 60mph on the highway my pathfinder lost all power and became had to control as my car came to a complete stop causing me to be stuck in between to merging highways with traffic on each side . I was given no warning this was about to happen and it could have cost me my life . My car had to be picked up and towed I would assume it’s my transmission or my engine it is the 3rd. I could not accelerate or shift at all despite having NO warning lights on until I turned it off to save my battery and make my self able to keep my lights and flashers on without causing anymore damage to my car which has already had a complete engine ,diffrential, and transfcase, radiator, and tan blades replaced multiple times at just 2 years old but was out of mileage so Nissan wouldn’t honor them . Well I assumed with Nissans suite winces they know it’s their transmissions they would cover everyone’s since this is on going however they didn’t and only covered to mileage to my surprise .

The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle made abnormally loud sounds. Additionally, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the cooling fan was replaced and the warning light was reset; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the vehicle would only start after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the PCV hose collapsed and was applying significant pressure on the crankcase, causing an engine misfire. The dealer replaced the PCV hose; however, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the fractured exhaust clamps were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The dealer diagnosed that the cylinder #1 ignition coil might have failed. The dealer replaced the transmission fluid, coolant exchange kit, and brake fluid. The engine control module (ECM) reprogramming was completed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer; Zeigler Nissan of Gurnee (3175 Grand Ave, Lindenhurst, IL 60046), where it was diagnosed that the long block, exhaust manifold gasket, intake manifold, throttle body, the bank one #1 catalytic converter, and other unknown parts needed to be replaced. The manufacturer informed the contact that she was responsible for the cost of the engine assembly replacement prior to them assisting with the catalytic converter replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 36,539.

When hitting any imperfections in the road, the Pathfinder will lose traction and steering. On the highway it is most dangerous, online it is called "the death sway" and is a known issue to consumers in the Pathfinder and Infiniti Qx80. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN 2018 SINCE THEN I'VE HAD THIS VEHICLE IN THE SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES . MY DIFFERENTIAL WAS REPLACED A FEW MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE ALONG WITH MY FAN BLADES . THIS IS AGAIN AN ISSUE FOR MY CAR THIS JUST HAVING GOTTEN IT BACK BECAUSE I HAD TO DO A COMPLETE ENGINE REPLACEMENT IN MY NOW ONLY 4 YEAR OLD CAR . MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY FROM NISSAN BASED ON ANY OF THE MILEAGE . I TOOK IT TO ONE DEALERSHIP WHO CLAIMED THAT I HAD METAL IN MY OIL SAID NOTHING OF SMUDGE IN THE OIL MIND YOU I HAD JUST HAD MY OIL CHANGED AGAIN NOT TOLD ANYTHING . I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IN MARCH 2020 WHEN MY LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT KICKED ON WHICH DIDN'T MAKE SENSE AS I HAD JUST HAD AN OIL CHANGE A FEW WEEKS PRIOR AND KEPT UP ON MY OIL CHANGES . THE ENGINE THAT IS IN MY VEHICLE IS APPARENTLY NISSANS NEWEST ENGINE AND A VERY EXPENSIVE ONE AT THAT . I REQUESTED AN EXCEPTION FROM NISSAN IN REGARDS TO THE ENGINE SO I DID AS THEY SAID AND TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP THIS TIME THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP . THEY CLAIMED MY ENGINE WAS A TOTAL LOSS AND IT WAS DUE TO LACK OF MAINTENANCE THERE WAS NO WAY THIS WAS THE CASE IN MY SITUATION . NISSAN INFORMED ME THAT MAYBE THE PREVIOUS OWN R HAD DONE IT AND BASICALLY THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE . SO I GOT ONLINE AND STARTED LOOKING AROUND TO FIND THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAD REPORTED THE SAME THING . MY VEHICLE IS PRIMARILY ALL HIGHWAY DRIVING I PAID OVER 7K FOR A NEW ENGINE TO BE PUT IN MY CAR FROM A LOCAL SHOP . THE ENGINE HAD TO BE TAKEN OUT TWICE BECAUSE THE INSIDE PISTONS WERE STICKING THIS WAS ON THE NEW ENGINES . ONCE MY ENGINE WAS FINALLY INSTALLED AND MY 02 SENSORS REPLACED AS WELL A WEEK LATER MY CAR WAS THROWING A MISFIRE FOR LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT. THIS CLEARLY IS A FAULT WITH NISSANS DESIGN OF THIS ENGINE . I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS ON A NEWER VEHICLE WITH NO HELP FROM NISSAN AND NO FAULT OF MY OWN .

VEHICLE WAS TOWED IN AND WOULDN'T TURN OFF. CREST NISSAN IN FRISCO, TX PULLED BOTH BATTERY CABLES, AND THEN PULLED THE WIRING HARNESS OUT OF THE BACK OF THE IPDM MODULE. THEY REPLACED THE IPDM MODULE AT THIS TIME. AFTER THEY DID THIS IS WHEN THE FOLLOWING ISSUES STARTED OCCURRING. WE BACK OUT, TURN THE WHEELS TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT, AND THEN PLACE THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE. AT THIS POINT WE HAVE TURNED THE WHEELS BACK TO A CENTER POSITION AND GO TO ACCELERATE TO MOVE FORWARD. THE ENGINE RPM DOESN'T INCREASE AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE. THE TRUCK IS RUNNING, BUT NOTHING HAPPENS. AFTER 3-5 SECONDS, THE TRUCKS ACCELERATOR PEDAL WILL ENGAGE AND THE TRUCK WILL PROCCED FORWARD. OVER 70% OF THE TIME, AFTER THIS OCCURS, THE TRUCK EXHIBITS A LOSS OF POWER AND A LOUD "ROAR" COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. IF YOU PULL INTO A PARKING LOT, TURN THE TRUCK OFF, AND GO INSIDE FOR A FEW MINUTES, THE TRUCK WILL START RIGHT UP AND THE LOUD "ROAR" IS NOW GONE. HOWEVER, THERE ARE TIMES WHEN YOU GO TO START THE VEHICLE (USING THE START/STOP BUTTON ON THE DASH) AND THE ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE IT TURNS HALF A ROTATION, AND THEN STOPS. APPROXIMATELY 1 - 1.5 SECONDS LATER, THE ENGINE WILL CONTINUE TO TURN OVER AND THE TRUCK WILL START. THE TECHNICIANS AT CREST NISSAN ORIGINALLY TOLD US THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND THE ISSUE AND THAT OUR VEHICLE WAS READY FOR PICKUP ON 07/11. MY WIFE AND I WENT TO THE DEALER, GOT INTO THE TRUCK, AND WITHIN FIVE MINUTES DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM. WE WENT BACK INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, ASKED BILLY TO RIDE WITH US AND HE SAW THE PROBLEM. IN NOVEMBER 2018 WE STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE LOSING POWER, AND SHAKING LIKE IT'S READY TO STALL OUT. WE TOOK IT IN TO NISSAN AND THEY CLAIMED THEY REPLACED ALL 6 FUEL INJECTORS AND 5 UPPER INJECTOR 0-RINGS. WE BROUGHT IT BACK ON DEC 3, 2018 FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND NISSAN DOCUMENTATION STATES THAT THEY PERFORMED ROAD TEST AND VEHICLE ROAD GAUGE READ ALL THE WAY EMPTY EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE HAD ONE HALF A TANK OF FUEL. THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE REPLACED INTERNAL FUEL PUMP AND AND THE VEHICLE FUEL GAUGE WAS THEN READING AT THE APPROPRIATE LEVEL AND THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO US. ON JAN 14, 2019 WE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO NISSAN FOR THE SAME MECHANICAL PROBLEM AND THEY KEPT IT UNTIL FEB 6 CLAIMING THAT THEY WERE DOING EXTENSIVE RESEARCH TO DIAGNOSE AND FIX THE PROBLEM. AFTER 3 WEEKS WITHOUT OUR VEHICLE WE WERE CALLED TO PICK IT UP AND THE WORK ORDER STATED 'ROAD TESTED VEHICLE AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE CONDITION'. HOWEVER THE PAPERWORK INDICATES THAT THE MILEAGE IN WAS 23181 AND THE MILEAGE OUT WAS EXACTLY THE SAME, 23181, INDICATING THAT NISSAN NEVER REALLY DID ANYTHING TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. WE ARE A FAMILY OF 5 AND FOR US THIS VEHICLE WAS A HUGE INVESTMENT, WE'RE CONFIDENT IN THE NISSAN BRAND NAME BUT NOW WE ARE REGRETTING OUR DECISION. WE HAVE REQUESTED THAT NISSAN BUY THE VEHICLE BACK SO WE CAN PURCHASE A RELIABLE VEHICLE FROM ANOTHER BRAND NAME CORPORATION OR AT A MINIMUM REPLACE THIS VEHICLE WITH A NEW NISSAN PATHFINDER TO NO AVAIL, SO NOW WE FEEL WE ARE STUCK WITH THIS HIGH PRICED LEMON.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,767. **TR CONSUMER STATED WATER ENTERS THE CAR VIA THE SUNROOF, WHILE CLOSED, AND ACCUMULATES IN A GUTTER TYPE CHANNEL. SOME OF THE WATER DRAINS VIA 2 DRAIN HOLES, HOWEVER SOME OF THE WATER REMAINS PONDING. IT IS WATER WHICH WITH TIME CAUSES A MILDEW SMELL IN THE CAR. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE MILDEW SPORES WILL ENTER THE BODY AND HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS A CAUSE OF CERTAIN AILMENTS. WHEN I MET WITH THE NISSAN REPRESENTATIVE AND A NISSAN DEALER SERVICE MANAGER, WE OPENED THE SUNROOF OF A NEW CAR AT THEIR LOT, AND IT HAD PONDING WATER WHICH WILL EVENTUALLY TURN INTO MILDEW. I AM SIMPLY ASKING TO END MY LEASE SO I CAN LEASE ANOTHER CAR WITH NO SUNROOF. I SUFFER FROM ALLERGIES AND THE SMELL IS REALLY AFFECTING ME. UPDATED 10/26/18*JB

ON FEBRUARY 10, 2018, WE BROUGHT HOME A NEW PUPPY. WE WANTED TO CALM OUR CURRENT PET DOWN SO I WENT INSIDE MY HOUSE TO LET HIM OUT TO USE THE RESTROOM AND CALM HIM FOR THE INTRODUCTION. IT WAS A COLD NIGHT SO MY 7-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER AND HUSBAND WERE IN THE BACKSEAT UNBUCKLED WITH THE HEATER ON. NOBODY WAS IN THE FRONT SEAT AT THE TIME. THE CAR WAS RUNNING AND I HAD THE KEY IN MY POCKET IN OUR HOUSE. ABOUT 7 MINUTES LATER I HEARD A CRASH. IN MY MIND, I FIGURED MY HUSBAND WAS MOVING THINGS IN OUR GARAGE BUT WHEN I WENT OUTSIDE, THE CAR HAD ACCELERATED UP MY DRIVEWAY AND INTO MY GARAGE. IT CRASHED INTO MY FREEZER, AND IF THE FREEZER HAD NOT BEEN IN THE WAY IT WOULD HAVE CRASHED INTO MY HOUSE. NISSAN FLEW AN ENGINEER DOWN FROM TENNESEE AND HE RAN A REPORT ON HIS COMPUTER AND FOUND NO FAULT. I ASKED IF THEY KNEW WHY IT HAPPENED AND IF THEY TOOK THE VEHICLE APART TO LOOK FOR CAUSE AND THEY SAID: "NO, WE WERE NOT LOOKING FOR WHY ONLY IF THE COMPUTER SHOWED AN ERROR." I ASKED FOR THE REPORT AND THEY STATED THAT THE REPORT WAS PROPRIETARY AND REFUSED TO RELEASE IT TO ME. IT SEEMS ODD THAT THEY WOULD NOT RELEASE THE REPORT IF NISSAN IS NOT AT FAULT.
