THE VEHICLE THAT I HAVE A COMPLAINT IN REGARDS TO IS A 2002 JAGUAR S-TYPE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVING SLUGGISH AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING AT NORMALCY. I THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE JAGUAR DEALERSHIP TO BE SERVICED AND EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT A TRANSMISSION FAULT LIGHT HAD BEEN TRIGGERED. UPON THEIR EXAMINATION THE DEALERSHIP DISCOVERED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP IF THEY HAD MANY CARS IN WITH THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL AS MY VEHICLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY DID IN FACT HAVE BEEN SEEING THIS ISSUE WITH MANY OF S-TYPE JAGUAR VEHICLES. I THEN PLACED A CALL TO A TRANSMISSION RE-BUILDER TO INFORM HIM OF THE ISSUE AND BEFORE I COULD EXPLAIN MY PROBLEM HE WAS ALREADY FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE DUE TO THE MANY S-TYPE JAGUARS TRANSMISSION HE HAD REBUILT WITH THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

TL*- WHILE DRIVING THE 2002 JAGUAR S TYPE WITH 30000 FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE AT 40 MPH AND ACCELERATING UP A HILL THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO UNEXPECTEDLY LOSE SPEED. THE VEHICLE GOT TO THE TOP OF THE HILL, THEN CAME DOWN THE HILL, AND IT LOST POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE DRIVER TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT "THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED". THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. *AK

MY CAR IS A 2002 X-TYPE BUT WAS PURCHASED USED IN MAY '05 WITH ONLY 22K MILES. HAD A FAILURE OF MY CAR TO "STEP-DOWN" INTO PASSING GEAR AS I WAS GOING UP A HILL, THE CAR WOULD SLIP INTO NEUTRAL. I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE HOME BY PULLING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNING THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON AGAIN. THE FACTORY WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED BY LESS THAN 20 DAYS AT THIS INITIAL FAILURE BUT WAS COVERED BY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WAS PURCHASED, THEREFORE THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED. MILEAGE AT FAILURE WAS 26,000 MILES. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED 10 MONTHS LATER, DIFFERENT GEAR. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT THE REPEAT TROUBLE DEALERSHIP SAID A REBUILT FORD TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN SENT BUT THIS TIME JAGUAR WAS SENDING A NEW ONE. HE ALSO SAID THIS IS A VERY KNOW PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL BECAUSE IT IS MORE FORD THAN JAGUAR PARTS. *JB

OUR 2002 JAGUAR S TYPE WITH 44,000 MILES HAS TRANSMISSIONS PROBLEMS. WE CONTACTED THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THEY WILL NOT STAND BY THEIR VEHICLE. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING TRANSMISSIONS PROBLEMS WITH THE COMPANY. WE NEED HELP GETTING THIS PROBLEMS SOLVED. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX. THIS IS A $60,000 VEHICLE. HELP. *JB

DT: THE CONTACT SPECIFICALLY STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. THERE WAS A LOUD BANG AND VIBRATION. THE CONTACT MOVED THE VEHICLE AWAY FROM THE HIGHWAY AND REALIZED THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE. HE DROVE THE VEHICLE TO A NEARBY MECHANIC AND ASKED HIM IF THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. THE MECHANIC ADVISED HIM TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. THE NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A LOCAL MECHANIC, AND SAID THAT THE DOG IN THE BACK SEAT MAY HAVE HIT THE GEAR SHIFT AND CAUSED THE CHANGE OF GEARS. THE CONTACT DID NOT FEEL THAT THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION EXPLODED AND LOST TRANSMISSION FLUID. A SERVICE DEALER SAID THAT THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE RAN OVER SOMETHING IN THE ROAD. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET, BUT WAS SENDING HIM AN EMAIL AS SOON AS HE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. *AK UPDATED 12/27/05. *JB

I WAS SLOWING TO STOP IN A LINE OF TRAFFIC ON A CITY STREET. AS I SLOWED, THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT SOFT, AND THE CAR REVVED UP, ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. I THEN PUSHED HEAVILY ONTO THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT HAD NO ABILITY TO STOP THE CAR. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV. LUCKILY, I WAS SLOWING FROM A FAR ENOUGH DISTANCE THAT I WAS ABLE TO FORCEFULLY PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND STOP THE CAR. HOWEVER, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV EVEN THOUGH BOTH FEET WERE OFF ALL PEDALS AND THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL. I THEN TAPPED THE BRAKE PEDAL IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET THE ENGINE TO STOP REVVING, BUT IT HAD NO EFFECT. NEXT, I TAPPED THE GAS PEDAL TO ATTEMPT TO GET THE ENGINE TO STOP REVVING, WITH THIS, THE ENGINE DID STOP REVVING AND RETURNED TO NORMAL RPM'S. VERY SCARY AND QUITE DISTURBING, ESPECIALLY SINCE I HAVE READ OVER 30 COMPLAINTS ON WEBSITES REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE OTHERS HAVE HAD WITH THEIR JAGUARS. WHY IS NOTHING BEING DONE? HOW MANY PEOPLE NEED TO REPORT THIS TO HAVE A CASE OPENED?

I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE AND BACKING DOWN MY VERY STEEP DRIVEWAY. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES AND DISCOVERED I HAD NO BRAKES AND NO STEERING. THE CAR ACCELERATED DOWN DRIVEWAY AND DOWN MY NEIGHBORS HILL. THE CAR WAS STOPPED BY A TREE. WHEN THE CAR WAS TOWED OUT, THE WHEELS WERE PERFECTLY STRAIGHT. THE DEALER COULD FIND NO PROBLEM. DRIVER APPLIED BOTH FEET TO THE BRAKES BUT BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND. IT WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT NO ONE WAS INJURED. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO REAR OF CAR. *JB

AFTER STARTING VEHICLE, PUT IT IN REVERSE GEAR AND IT ACCELERATED AT HIGH SPEED. COULDN'T STOP VEHICLE WITH BRAKES, RESULTING IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. CONTACTED DEALER.*AK CONSUMER HAD FOOT ON BRAKE CONTINUALLY. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS NEVER TOUCHED. JAGUAR CONSUMER SERVICE STATES THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. CONSUMER BACKED OUT OF A SIDE ENTRANCE GARAGE, NEVER USING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE IDLE FOR THE VEHICLE IS SET HIGH INITIALLY TO HEAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE MOTOR WAS RACING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JAGUAR S-TYPE. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO UNLOCK THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR FROM THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE WITH THE KEY BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE DOOR LOCK AND THE IGNITION LOCK WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND REPAIRED FIVE TIMES BUT THE FAILURE WAS NEVER REMEDIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,165.

CAR SLOWS TO 5MPH WITH NO WARNING, NO CONTROL OF GAS PEDAL, COMPUTER PANEL INDICATES ALL SYSTEMS HAVE FAILED. HAPPENED IN MIDDLED OF INTERSECTION-BARELY MADE IT ACROSS. HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIR. JAGUAR FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I FEAR MY LIFE IN THIS CAR. AFTER MANY RESTARTS, IT ACTS FINE-UNTIL THE NEXT TIME. JAGUAR IS PICKING UP THE CAR AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED EXCESSIVE VIBRATION COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT BOTH FRONT TIRES EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY COULD NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.

CAR IS EQUPIPED WITH A TOUCH SREEN PANEL TO CONTROL PHONE, NAVIGATION, RADIO, CLIMATE CONTROL- THE TOUCH PAD DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY AND CAN BE DISTRACTING TO DRIVER WHICH MAY CAUSE AND ACCIDENT. THE SYSTEM HAS AN ERROR RATE OF APPROXIMATELY 50-80% . JAQUAR CORPORATE HAS BEEN WORKING WITH ME SINCE AUGUST OF 2001 TO FIX THE SYSTEM. THEY JUST REPLACED THE VEHICHLE WITH A NEW ONE HOWEVER THIS UNIT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS DID THE ONE I DROVE FROM THAT THE FACTORY TECHNICIAN HAD. THE PROBLEM IS THE SYSTEM HAS A DESIGN FLAW THAT IS GOING TO GET PEOPLE KILLED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JAGUAR S-TYPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE IGNITION KEY WAS TURNED TO THE ON POSITION, IT WAS DIFFICULT FOR THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT OUT OF THE PARK POSITION. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO THE DRIVE POSITION, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS REFUELED, THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL. THE FAILURES RECURRED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM, THE LOWER BALL JOINTS, AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06E056000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNAVAILABLE.

ON JULY 14, 2010, MY CAR STARTING DRIVING SLUGGISH, AS IF PULLING HEAVY WEIGHT. THE GEAR BOX FAULT LIGHT TURNED ON. ON 7-16-2010, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ME $2,800 PLUS TAX TO CHANGE THE GEAR BOX WITH A ONE YEAR GUARANTEE. MY SECOND OPTION WAS TO INSTALL A NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF OVER $5,000. TWO MONTHS AGO I SPENT $5,000 ON A NEW ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND FUEL INJECTION. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO SINCE I AM STRUGGLING AS MANY FINANCIALLY. THE DEALER SAID THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL. TOLD HIM I DOUBTED THAT, HENCE, MY COMPLAINT. *TR

CONSUMER COMPLAINT REGARDING DEALERS FAILURE TO PROPERLY DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR DRIVE TRAIN FAILURE IN 2002 JAGUAR S TYPE. *TS ***NO ANSWER REQUIRED*** THIS PROBLEM SEEM TO BE MORE PRESENT DURING COOL TEMPERATURES. FROM THE FIRST DAY OF PURCHASE THE VEHICLE DEMONSTRATED UNSATISFACTORY OPERATION OF THE TRANSMISSION, EXHIBITING ROUGH TRANSITION FROM ON GEAR TO THE NEXT WHEN THE DRIVE TRAIN WAS COOL. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED WHICH REDUCED THE SEVERITY OF THE ROUGH SHIFT BUT IT NEVER SHIFTED AS SMOOTHLY AS THE CONSUMER FELT A LUXURY VEHICLE SHOULD. DURING THE WINTER THE CONSUMER HAD DIFFICULTY GETTING THE VEHICLE TO START. SOMETIMES IT TOOK THREE ATTEMPTS TO START. THEN FIVE MINUTES LATER THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AND THE FAIL SAFE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM RECURRED AND AGAIN THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM. *NM

ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS APPROX. 1 YEAR APART I WAS DRIVING LONG DISTANCE FROM SAN DIEGO, CA TO NEVADA AND IDAHO ON INTERSTATE 15. ON THE FIRST OCCASION (6/4/04) THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND STALLED APPROX. 60 MILES SOUTH OF SALT LAKE CITY. WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND DROVE APPROX. 5 MILES WHEN VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. THIS OCCURRED TWICE MORE AND I WAS UNABLE TO RESTART AFTER THE FOURTH STALL. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO JAGUAR DEALERSHIP IN SALT LAKE CITY AND KEPT THERE FOR 5 DAYS. THE SERVICE REP STATED THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG BUT ULTIMATELY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY AT THAT TIME. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURED THIS LAST WEEK (5/31/02) AND WAS IDENTICAL TO THE FIRST FAILURE EXCEPT THIS OCCURRED APPROX. 25 MILES SOUTH OF LAS VEGAS AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER THE 2ND FAILURE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP IN LAS VEGAS. THEY AGAIN COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM IN THE SHOP THAT MY ONLY ALTERNATIVE WAS TO FOR THEM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE ON AN EXTENDED ROAD TEST AT MY EXPENSE. THEY DID NOT FEEL THIS WAS A WARRANTY ISSUE BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T DETECT THE PROBLEM WITH THEIR DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS AND SO IT WAS NOT RELATED TO THE FIRST INCIDENT. I DID NOT FEEL THAT I SHOULD PAY THEM FOR THE EXTENDED ROAD TEST BECAUSE THE PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I RETRIEVED MY VEHICLE AND RETURNED HOME.

LETTER SENT IN RESPONSE TO THE LETTER FORWARDED FROM LORRAINE GUBERNIK WITH JAGUAR CARS DATED AUG. 25. *LA CONSUMER NOTICED A DISTINCT SHIMMY IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN THE VEHICLE REACHED APPROX. 64 MPH OR GREATER. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS ALONG WITH OTHER CONCERNS. WHEN THE CONSUMER PICKED UP THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED ONLY ONE OF THE FEW ITEMS WERE ADDRESSED. THE CONSUMER MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT AT WHICH TIME THE OTHER MINOR PROBLEMS WERE ADDRESSED. THE SHIMMY IN THE STEERING WHEEL STILL EXISTED. THE MECHANIC THEN RECOMMENDED DRIVING IT FOR A WEEK LETTING THE TIRES/CAR WARM UP HOPING THE SHIMMY WOULD DISSIPATE. THE CONSUMER AGREED WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT IF IT DIDN'T WORK, HE WOULD TAKE FURTHER STEPS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE SHIMMY DIDN'T GO AWAY, IN FACT, IT WAS OCCURRING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN THE LOW 40'S TO MID 60'S. NEW WHEELS WERE ORDERED AND PLACED ON THE VEHICLE. THIS DIDN'T CORRECT THE PROBLEM EITHER. CONSUMER REQUESTED ANOTHER JAGUAR WITH ALL THE SAME COMPONETS TO REPLACE HIS VEHICLE THAT HE FEELS COULDN'T BE REPAIRED. *PH THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE STEERING RACK WOULD BE REPLACED, HOWEVER THE DEALERSHIP CONTINUED TO GIVE THE CONSUMER THE RUN A ROUND REGARDING THE AVAILABILITY OF THE PART. *JB *JB

ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 10 MPH WHEN THE CONSUMER ENGAGED THE CRUISE CONTROL. THIS PROBLEM ONLY OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SHOP, BUT THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER STATED THE MECHANIC CHANGED OUT THE COMPUTER, AND NOW THINKING ALONG THE LINES OF POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. *NLM REFER TO ODI# 10021053 (ONLINE) *SCC *JB
