How to read a Jaguar I-PACE VIN — every digit explained
Every Jaguar I-PACE carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. Tells you it's a Jaguar and the country it was built in.
- VDS (4–8) — model, body style, engine, trim & restraints. The 8th digit is the engine code.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built (e.g. R = 2024, S = 2025).
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this I-PACE.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:
Where to find your I-PACE VIN
- Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
- Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
- Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
- Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

Electrical System 163 Read
I received a Recall Notice dated 7/18/2023. I reached out to the manufacturer to obtain the new battery. As requested, I took the vehicle to my local dealer at which time they verified with corporate that my car needed the new battery as noted. I was told that the car could catch on fire because of the faulty battery. I was, of course, afraid to drive the car with me or passengers. I made many calls and sent emails to two different corporate reps at Jaguar. Many calls were not returned and emails were not answered. I believe that my local dealer also reached out to corporate in my behalf. I was advised that the car should not be garaged or close to any structures. Because of this, my car was moved to the street. Jaguar never got back to me to send the new battery to my local dealer for replacement. Had they replaced my battery in a timely manner, the car would have been stored in a garage when not in use. Since the car was exposed to the elements for Safety reasons, it blew up during the hurricane Helene on [XXX]. I am very disappointed with Jaguar Corporate for not fixing my recall so that my car could be in a safe place during Florida hurricanes. I feel that Jaguar owes my the value of the new battery to enable me to buy a new vehicle. Please advise. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The yoga studio is located in a commercial district and as i was early, the entire parking lot was empty except for one other vehicle at approximately 9:30 am that morning. So i drove around in front of the building, #9825, and decided to park on the other side from the one vehicle parked there. See figure 1. (see map of 9825 carroll center road location. The red rectangle shows where i parked; blue rectangle shows where the only other vehicle was in the parking lot at 9:30 am on wednesday, 2/12/20.) as i slowly pulled into the parking spot, with my foot on the brake pedal as one does when parking, the jaguar i-pace suddenly surged and accelerated, driving over the curb and hedge in front on to the other side and rammed into the parked vehicle, a vw beetle! It was a terrifying experience! See following pictures including tread marks, showing the acceleration when the car was in the parking slot. I was very shaken by the incident and sat in the car for some time in total disbelief. There was no deployment of the airbags in my car or in the car i struck. When i was finally able to move, i got out of the car carefully as it was balanced on top of the bushes with some of the wheels in the air. The owner of the vw beetle also came out asked if i was ok. Fortunately, i am physically ok, just very shaken and traumatized by the entire incident which had lasted no more than seconds. The next 6 hours were spent calling my insurance, aaa for emergency towing, rental cars, etc. By mid-afternoon of february 12, 2020, i was informed by the service department of jaguar san diego that my i-pace checked out ok and all software updates are current!
On three separate occasions, two with my wife, and once with me, the car suddenly accelerated as if the accelerator was depressed to the floor even though our feet were no on the accelerator. With my wife driving, she was pulling into parking spaces going 5mph or slower. I was coasting downhill at 40mpg when the car accelerated and the brakes did not respond. We reported each incident to the dealer who said they relayed the information to jaguar technical support. In all cases jaguar said they could not find anything wrong with the car and want us to continue to drive it. The last time they asked the dealership to drive the car for 100 miles. We are now afraid to drive the car for fear we will hit and injure some innocent party or harm our selves.
SAFETY INCIDENTS 1. Highway Limp Mode Failure — May 2026 & June 2026 While driving on the highway in summer conditions with my infant in the vehicle, the car has entered limp mode twice without warning, reducing speed to a maximum of 2mph. This left us stranded in live traffic lanes, creating immediate and serious danger to my child's life. 2. Severe Range Loss in Winter Storm — December 2025 While driving in an ice storm with my infant in the vehicle, I briefly stopped to purchase windshield de-icer. Upon restarting the vehicle, the car lost approximately 50 miles of range instantaneously, leaving us unable to safely reach home in life-threatening winter conditions.
At 11:45 AM, a Waymo AV stopped in the middle northbound lane at the Kierland Commons/Scottsdale Quarter signaled pedestrian crosswalk. The stop signal was not on. Pedestrians were standing on the sidewalk waiting for the signal to turn so they could cross Scottsdale Road. I assume the Waymo AV saw the pedestrians standing on the sidewalk and decided to stop. I was directly behind the Waymo AV. Traffic was passing us in both lanes. The Waymo AV remained stopped until the pedestrian signal came on and did not move forward until after the signal turned off. Fortunately, vehicles behind me were paying attention and did not rear-end anybody. The main issue involves a Waymo AV coming to a stop when it sees pedestrians waiting to cross the street, rather than paying attention to the pedestrian signal light, which is a blinking red light over each lane when triggered by a pedestrian that turns solid red, allowing pedestrians to cross the street. I have provided this information to Waymo LLC and they have responded that they are looking into why this Waymo AV stopped when it should not have stopped.
I nearly had a collision with an autonomous Waymo vehicle in [XXX] due to the Waymo vehicle's failure to yield at an intersection. No emergency vehicles responded to the scene. There were no warning lamps, sounds or other symptoms prior to the failure to yield by the Waymo vehicle There was no collision. The Waymo vehicle failed to yield to my vehicle as I was traveling through an intersection with a protected green arrow. I had to slam onto my brakes with to avoid a collision. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
A waymo put pedestrian and public safety at risk on 5/12/26 at approximately 7:50 pm when it stopped halfway through an intersection at 14th, Market, and Church Street in San Francisco alongside a crosswalk. I began honking from my vehicle as the waymo stopped in front of lanes of oncoming traffic, blocking the intersection. Instead of continuing through the intersection, the waymo turned towards oncoming traffic and advanced forward into the crosswalk and into oncoming traffic that was stopped at the red light. As one of the vehicles it was advancing towards I laid on my horn to try to get it to stop, but it didn't and the car next to me had to back up away from it to avoid collision. The waymo stopped about 1 foot away from the car before reversing into the intersection again (see pictures) and then turning onto 14th andriving away. The waymo essentially used a very busy intersection and active crosswalk to execute a 3 point turn. Without human driver intervention a collision was likely with a vehicle or pedestrian.
During a heavy rain vehicle stalled out. Looked like it hit a bag of leaves at the drivers front wheel. Stuck in standing water blocking a lane. I was pulled over waiting out the rain and cars trying to get past the stalled Waymo were almost colliding with me and others. If a car can not function in heavy rain why are these on the roads.

While driving a 2022 Jaguar I-Pace for 60 miles, the car came to a stop sign near its destination. At this point, the car would stutter and shake when attempting to accelerate, simultaneously the car would roll back since there was a slight decline in the road. Brakes were full functional throughout this time. However, no warnings were shown during the occurrence and by the time the driver was able to apply the brakes, the car had already rolled back approximately 2 feet. After this time, the car accelerated but the issue repeated itself at the next stop sign and again at the destination. While approaching a drive way at the destination with a 10-15% grade, the vehicle completely cut power halfway up the drive way. At this time the car rolled back into the street, approximately 6 feet, before the driver could react and apply brakes. Had there been someone standing or walking on the side walk at the end of the driveway, it would have resulted in severe injuries or even death. At the time, no vehicles were on the road, however if there were, the vehicle would have rolled into traffic before the driver is able to react. Power was regained approximately 10 seconds after rolling backwards. The vehicle was then parked curbside for approximately 4 hours. Upon starting and driving the vehicle again, the same issues with stuttering/shaking when accelerating from a standstill and sudden loss of power with any incline continued. The next day, the vehicle had to be towed to a Jaguar Land Rover dealer for investigation. No previous repair work or modifications have been done to the vehicle. All care and maintenance had been done according to the manual. Battery was also charged to 80% as recommended by the manual for optimal battery life. At the time the issues had started, the vehicle showed 48% battery life remaining. No previous issues or problems had occurred with the vehicle, no recalls or TSB in place as of 9/12/22 for the 2022 model year.
I am the owner of a 2020 Jaguar I-PACE, VIN: [INSERT VIN], subject to NHTSA Recall 26V067. The interim software remedy under campaign H570 has been installed on my vehicle, capping the battery charge at 90%. I reside in a designated fire hazard zone in Santa Monica, California, in a densely populated residential area. I contacted NHTSA directly on June 5th 2027 at appx 10:20 AM and was advised that it is still not safe to park the vehicle inside or charge it indoors, even after the H570 software update has been applied. However, the Executive Liaison at Jaguar Land Rover North America's Customer Relationship Center, Judianne Di Leo, stated in writing yesterday that, following the H570 update, all parking and charging precautions are lifted and the vehicle can be operated as normal. This directly contradicts the guidance I received from NHTSA. I submitted a formal repurchase request to [XXX] under the California Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act. Jaguar Land Rover North America denied that request in writing, with no explanation or legal basis provided. The permanent remedy under campaign H572 remains open and under development with no committed timeline. I am filing this complaint because I believe Jaguar Land Rover North America is providing customers with safety guidance that contradicts NHTSA's own recall documentation, and because I am unable to safely comply with the parking and charging instructions in a fire hazard zone with no remedy INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
This is an urgent update to a safety complaint filed on May 28, 2026 regarding a 2020 Jaguar I-PACE (VIN: [XXX] ). Today, May 29, 2026, a Jaguar Corporate Executive Liaison officially issued a written denial of alternative safe transportation (Case #XXX). The manufacturer explicitly claimed in writing that the vehicle is "safe to drive" and that parking it outside is "entirely my decision," directly contradicting active NHTSA Campaign 26V067000 (H570) documentation. JLR federal filings state that the final physical remedy (H572) is still under development and that instructions to park outside away from structures remain actively in effect. The manufacturer is actively misrepresenting the safety metrics of an uncorrected high-voltage battery fire risk to consumers. Furthermore, because I reside at [XXX] —a high-density neighborhood heavily vulnerable to fire spread and directly adjacent to the active Palisades wildfire zone—complying with the "park outside away from structures" mandate while holding the car is a physical impossibility. JLR Corporate is actively denying necessary safety accommodations, exposing the consumer and public to severe fire liability. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Jaguar Land Rover issued a safety mandate stating my vehicle is a spontaneous fire hazard and must be parked away from structures. However, JLR corporate is actively refusing to provide a safety loaner car or rental accommodation while forcing a weeks-long paperwork audit, leaving me with a known fire hazard in an active California fire zone
I am filing a complaint regarding a 2020 Jaguar I-PACE with a documented history of repeated high-voltage battery and charging system failures. The vehicle has experienced multiple “traction battery fault” warnings, repeated inability to charge, and required replacement of high-voltage battery modules. Despite these repairs, the same issues have recurred. The vehicle has also had extended periods out of service, including repair durations exceeding 30 days. The vehicle is currently subject to active safety recalls (H570 and H572) involving high-voltage battery thermal risk, with no permanent remedy currently available. The manufacturer has imposed operational limitations, including charging restrictions. Due to the combination of repeated failures and the unresolved safety recall, the vehicle is unreliable, potentially unsafe, and cannot be reasonably sold or traded without significant financial loss. The manufacturer, Jaguar Land Rover, has declined to offer a repurchase or meaningful resolution despite being provided with full service history documenting the repeated failures. I am requesting review of this matter as a potential unresolved safety defect and failure of corrective action.
I purchased the vehicle with approximately 56,000 miles. Within 2–3 weeks after purchase a “traction battery fault” warning appeared. I took it to a dealership, which said it was a battery module fault. They replaced defective battery cell under warranty (repair value ~$7,000–8,000). During the same initial period and continuing after the battery repair, the vehicle exhibited intermittent AC charging failures. It would begin Level 2 charging sessions and then terminate them prematurely. This includes both the Level 2 charger I installed new at my home upon purchasing the car, and commercial Level 2 chargers. The home charger would repeatedly show a fault that the vehicle was ending the sessions. Over the following months, the condition progressively worsened from intermittent to near-total loss of AC charging capability. The vehicle can still DC fast charge. Dealer diagnosed the failure as a defective BCCM requiring replacement at a cost of approximately $6,700. This is a known and documented issue: Jaguar has issued TSB SSM75883 (NHTSA Document MC-10227452-0001) addressing I-PACE vehicles unable to charge with BCCM fault code U3000-49, and TSB SFCC Jul20_11 (NHTSA Document MC-10178140-0001) for the 2020 I-PACE specifically. The vehicle cannot be charged at home or at any AC charging station, rendering it effectively inoperable for normal daily use.
Several battery cells have failed and have required replacement on at least 3 occasions in this vehicle. I believe there is a fire risk and that the affected vin range of recall H484 was too narrow. Please consider widening the range of the recall to include the batch used in this vehicle as they are clearly defective as seen by the disproportionately high failure rate.
The vehicle has experienced the Traction Battery Fault three times, which is the warning signal provided when there is a main battery fault situation. During the latest incident, the warning appeared and shortly afterward the vehicle emitted white smoke with an electrical odor and crackling from the front undercarriage. Emergency services were contacted through 911, and firefighters disconnected the 12V battery to stabilize the vehicle. Two previous traction-battery-related repair attempts were performed by Jaguar, and a third repair is currently underway. The repeated failure of the high-voltage traction battery system represents a potential fire risk and electrical hazard. I am reporting this incident to ensure NHTSA is aware of this high-voltage safety defect.
My vehicle experienced a persistent series of malfunctions over the course of its use, primarily related to the electric battery system. The most serious issue is a complete failure of the high-voltage battery, rendering the car entirely inoperable. The vehicle now displays a "Battery Fault" error message and cannot be started or driven. The manufacturer (Jaguar Land Rover) refuses to repair the vehicle under warranty while a buyback negotiation is underway, leaving me with an unusable and potentially unsafe EV. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue, no adequate repair or restitution has been provided. The vehicle is currently in my possession and available for inspection upon request. The vehicle's battery failure occurred without warning, and the car is now immobilized in a location where it could pose a hazard if not towed. The sudden loss of power and refusal to start could have placed me or others at risk had this occurred while driving or in traffic. The Jaguar Service Center confirmed the issue is due to a battery fault but declined to repair it during ongoing manufacturer buyback discussion. No repair or further inspection has been done. The vehicle displayed repeated system alerts and warning messages over the past two years. Most recently, it showed a persistent "Battery Fault" message immediately before total failure. Earlier issues included unreliable charging, loss of power, and recurring error messages related to the electric drive system. The earliest warning messages began with the first year of ownership (within the last month). The complete failure with "Battery Fault" occurred in July 2025.
Vehicle began flashing Traction Battery Warnings along with warnings to stop driving car. I had been parking car outside for two years since notification from JLR to keep car outside and away from structures. Set up appointment for next day to have car towed to dealership, and asked them to attempt the latest software upgrade, understanding that it would not solve problem, but might make the car safe to drive. That same day, received buyback letter from JLR. Called dealer, told them to just try the update, nothing else. They asked me to pay $325 to inspect car. I refused and stated I was calling Morley as indicated in received letter. Called Morley, gave them information and followed up in email with all requested documentation. Morley advised me to keep the car at the dealership as they would be handling the buyback. Informed dealership that that was the plan. A few days later, Morley indicated that they would be settling the case by paying my KBB value, despite the fact that I am in California. I hired an attorney, who contacted Morley. We heard nothing for several weeks, during which time the dealership contacted me and insist I remove my car as they had heard nothing from Morley in the prior 30 days. The dealership tried to have me pay for services I did not authorize, and had taken apart and removed the windshield wiper and grill and interior covers under hood and had not reinstalled, nor were they in the car. The car was left on their lot, which an acknowledged rodent problem, for 30 days. Morley then insisted that the attorney work directly with JLR NA. Attorney sent demand to them on April 26 , but one month later w have heard nothing. The car does not drive, and is stored outside on my driveway. 60 days in, and we have no contact from JLR, let alone a satisfactory resolution.

I was exiting a parking spot and I had my foot on the brake to start the vehicle and again to put the car in reverse. I backed out of my parking spot and turned 90 degrees to exit the parking lot. As I pushed down on the brake to stop and shift to drive, the pad that covers the brake pedal fell off, causing my foot to slip and hit the accelerator. I then struck another vehicle with the back of my car. In looking at the car after the accident, the pad that normally covers the brake pedal was on the floor of the car, between the brake and accelerator. At the body shop, one of the people said there is supposed to be a clip that holds the pad, but it was either broken or missing on my car.

When braking the car jumps then brakes, the electrical system flickers sometimes and it won’t go into gear. If not used for a couple days a warning comes on. This has happened 2 times despite buying a new battery is what the dealership said it needed. Now it’s in the shop again for the same thing and not once did they tell me about the recall and now charging me for the software updates from the recall
Total brake system failure. Vehicle would not stop with two feet applied to the brake pedal. Third time this has happened. Jaguar has previously repaired.
Was driving vehicle downhill on a small hill in Palm Springs when multiple error messages appeared in rapid succession on the information display, including 'traction battery fault - safe to drive with caution'. This was immediately followed by "pull over and stop the car" but before I had the chance to do so ALL the systems in the car ceased to operate and all electrical systems shut down. The breaks would not work, the steering would not work. I was still traveling down hill and unable to stop the car. The car continued for approximately 1/2 a mile and went through two stop signs. Fortunately it was early morning and there were no other vehicles , or pedestrians around, if there had been I would have been unable to avoid hitting them. My safety and that of any other driver or pedestrian who could have been on the road was seriously compromised. The car finally came to rest towards the bottom of the hill and I was able to exit the vehicle. Had this happened if I was traveling at speed on a freeway, I hate to contemplate the consequences. This same problem happened about 4 weeks ago, but fortunately the total shut down occurred while the car was stationery in my garage. The dealership towed the truck then and returned it to me a few days later, saying they had resolved all the issues - but clearly not. I have no confidence in the safety of this car. The dealer is collecting the car today to return it to the Jaguar dealership in Rancho Mirage.
Consistent faulty battery warning back in the winter. Recently the brake pedal warning comes up very often, brake also feels like I need to apply more pressure when stopping. The lane assist also always gives me a warning light saying to drive with care.
used as daily drive for commute to work, each return to home, i would put it on the 7.5kw juicebox level 2 charger- this worked well since april 2024, until march 2025- upon returned from work, i place it on charge, and immediately went into "charging status error", with another message after disconnecting the charger port, "High voltage error but is ok to drive" message. Thinking it was a fluke, i let it sit few days, unplugged, and then attempted to check battery status on the driver dash screen, "high voltage error but is ok to drive" msg reappeared, i shut it off, waited 10 minutes, plugged in the charger that came with the car, 1.2kw charger, opened the driver door, waited for the screen to come on and display the battery charging status, to no avail. "Charging status:error" and in all red, and a red triangle on the right side of the dash display was present, along with brake error. I unplugged it, and attempted to move it further away from my house in case there is a problem i can't see, to no avail, i can not move it. the software updater shows no update available for the vehicle or for the infotainment center. the nearest dealer for me is over 40miles from me (rural area)- i have sent emails to JLR, and have not received acknowledgement or any replies.
I have had issues with this car in terms of the various batteries. some of this has caused other issues with other components such as the brakes. I was driving last week on the freeway when my traction battery light came on and the brakes basically stopped working (Its was hard to press the brake pedal). The when i start it it again everything working fine. I took it to the dealer and notified jaguar only to find out a buyback program is in place so I started it. I find it interesting that Jaguar had never contacted me regarding this buyback and I only found out about it when I did my own research. Very scary to think of. So now I have my car back and it is only able to charge up to 80% of the capacity which does not work and I am also very scared to drive this vehicle around. I am now going through the jaguar buyback process but it is slow and in the meantime I have nothing to drive. They know the car is a lemon and they have agreed to buyback so why is it taking soo much time?
See attached document for complaint.

This vehicle is part of a mandatory repurchase. I have had no contact from the manufacturer since March 20, 2025. The vehicle has been modified by the manufacturer from it's origional state while the reacquisition process is completed. It is no longer a usable vehicle because of this modification.
The manufacturer/dealer has been unable to remedy the safety recall NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V183000. I was notified in April 2024 that the battery would be replaced. I was nottfied in February 2025 that the battery was on order and would be replaced soon. It is now August 2025 and it is still not scheduled for replacement and parts are not available.
The contact owns a 2019 Jaguar I-Pace. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle also failed to shift to neutral. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to fully charge. The battery warning error was displayed. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V633000 (Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was towed, and the local dealer was contacted. The dealer diagnosed that the failure was due to the traction battery and the main battery. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact not to park in the garage due to a possible fire. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The manufacturer offered a buyback, but the buyback was not finalized. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

Fire danger for years in my 2019 jaguar ipace. Unable to solve. Resolution is finally to buy vehicle back, no action 4 months now waiting for action. In addition to 13 months in the shop. This is not prompt as they claim and it continues to be used on public roads, carrying passengers, parking and chaging in congested areas including next to hospitals due to the inaction. Someone needs to force forward motion before someone gets hurt.
After my Jaguar IPace was reprogrammed by the dealer for the 5th time in December, my mirrors have folding out issues, lane assist is malfunctioning, and there is a "coolant" warning and "service required" warning lights on my dash (Again). The Jaguar dealer has no information on and further updates or battery replacement. This car is now parked outside in case it catches fire per my recall instructions from Jaguar. How do I get a remedy for this?
With respect to this recall: Nov 18,2024 Manufacturer Recall NumberH536 NHTSA Recall Number24V-633 Recall StatusRecall Incomplete, remedy not yet available Remedy As a final remedy, JLR will reacquire vehicles from affected customers. JLR has not reached out to me on the next steps and I'm driving around with a vehicle with a known risk including thermal overload. JLR shouldn't have an indefinite timeline to execute the final remedy, reacquire of vehicle. I submitted a reacquire request to JLR customer service in Nov. 2024, but have yet to hear back from JLR after 3 months.
All 2019 Jaguar I-Pace's were subject to numerous recalls due to battery issues for fire risk. The latest recall limited range and battery to 80% and its stated that ALL 2019 would be bought back. It has been months and Jaguar has yet to offer any recourse. I have called and emailed and keep getting told a specialised team would be contacting me in 2 weeks. Its been 3 Months and they same thing is being said. My vehicle is a fire hazard so I am constantly in fear that it will catch fire in my drive way (cannot park in garage per instructions) and potentially catch house on fire. Furthermore, we cannot functionally use car as intended as the range is severely limited. I would like to have Jaguar move forward swiftly with the buyback, as from what I can ascertain they will use KBB valuation but since the notification of buyback the value of I-Paces has precipitously fallen as they drag their feet. I have attached the notification on Jaguar's Recall portal with the following language: Repair Description As referenced in the previous letter, your vehicle will, as an interimcondition, have the maximum state of charge altered to 80%. This will protect your vehicle until the re-purchase is complete. The maximum driving range of your vehicle will be reduced accordingly. There will be no charge to owners for this repair.Separately, Jaguar will reach out to you and seek to work with you to arrange the re-purchase of your vehicle, with the aim of completing this as quickly as possible.

Ok after done charging my Jaguar I Pace I put my car in reverse it made a clicking noise and then had traction battery warning pop up and high voltage battery warning then battery fault in red the car then just pushed itself forward for no reason and almost ran into the charger so I put it in park it stopped clicking. I honestly thought the car was going to start on fire this was after the software interim recall it isn't a fix it's a monitoring system but it didn't fix the problem now look the car is in the shop. I've owned the vehicle for 3 weeks and it's been in the shop 2 times it's absurd. I do not know what is wrong with the car but it has been in the dealership for a little bit and they need to bring in a Ev mechanic which takes time. I just want the car to get fixed and to be honest the only way I will feel safe driving this car might be if they replace the battery if it is that defective if it isn't they need to prove to me that. But the dealership the car is in has been fantastic they provided a loaner and everything I just want my car to be safe to drive. I think and can assume that the problem is my battery was overheating and it was the big battery I think at least one of the dealerships I called assumed that when they heard clicking noise.
High voltage battery is over heating. Constantly getting messages stating "Traction Battery Fault Detected" when charging or when there are days of extreme heats. In addition, when charging, a loud fan like noise is present and car gets really hot. Now my car is stating "Stop Safely Battery Fault detected " right in the middle of me driving and I lost power for about 14 seconds. Power goes in and out. Although my car VIN isn't included in the NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 24V183000 and Jaguar's number for this recall is H484. These vehicles were previously recalled under 23V-369. My car is affected by this same issues if not more
Vehicle: Jaguar I-PACE Model Year: 2019 VIN: [XXX] Mileage at incident: ~63,000 miles Dealers Involved: Jaguar Land Rover Ft. Myers (FL), Jaguar Land Rover Naples (FL) Incident Dates: June–September 2025 Complaint Summary: Between June–September 2025 my Jaguar I-PACE experienced warranty and service obstruction tied to the traction battery recall. Jaguar Land Rover Ft. Myers submitted a false warranty claim for traction battery replacement, which was denied by the insurer as excluded. At the same time, the dealer misled the ADA driver/policyholder with a “coolant pump fault” explanation, even though the A/C system was operating normally, which made that failure mechanically impossible. The dealership never provided diagnostic codes from TOPIx/Pathfinder. On [XXX], at ~63,000 miles, the I-PACE was immobilized by a 12V failure. Both Ft. Myers and Naples dealerships refused assistance, leaving an ADA driver stranded. I had to replace the 12V battery myself to restore mobility. This raised a serious safety issue, as an immobilized I-PACE cannot be moved to a safe location in the event of fire. Text messages show direct Jaguar Land Rover Corporate involvement, with Ft. Myers stating: “We started a tech case and they will not proceed until they know if it is a buyback” and “Tech assistance will not give us assistance because of the open recall for buyback.” This demonstrates corporate obstruction of warranty rights. Multiple owners reported traction battery faults from March–June 2025 before signing NDAs tied to buyback settlements. This suggests a wider pattern of recall-related service restrictions. Requested Action: NHTSA is requested to investigate Jaguar Land Rover’s handling of the I-PACE traction battery recall, including obstruction of warranty service, denial of diagnostic access, and treatment of disabled/ADA drivers. These issues may affect a large number of recalled vehicles nationwide. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
In connection with Recall H514, my 2019 Jaguar I-Pace (SADHD2S16K1 F76172) had a battery fire risk that led Jaguar to issue a software update. Without prior notice, the update permanently disabled full battery function by capping the vehicle’s charge at 80%, significantly reducing range and usability. The update was irreversible and materially changed the safety and performance of the electric vehicle. After being forced to seek a replacement, I purchased a 2020 Jaguar I-Pace (SADHD2S17L1F81804). During transport of the 2020 vehicle home, it exhibited an “Electrical Battery Fault” warning, raising serious concerns about the continued reliability and safety of Jaguar’s battery systems even after the recall. This ongoing pattern of battery issues places consumers at risk of fire, vehicle immobilization, or loss of propulsion. Jaguar’s recall remedy has proven ineffective at fully addressing the underlying electrical and propulsion safety issues.
Jaguar Land Rover North America (JLR) continues to neglect its federal recall obligations for the 2019 I-PACE under recalls H441, H514, and H536, exposing owners to serious fire risks. Despite multiple recall efforts, thermal overload incidents persist, proving JLR’s interim remedies—software updates and charging restrictions—are ineffective. JLR admits in its notices that affected vehicles remain unsafe, yet fails to resolve the defect or provide fair compensation. The only remedy is a manufacturer buyback, but JLR systematically undervalues offers, basing them on depressed Kelley Blue Book (KBB) values from Oct 2024 instead of pre-defect values minus reasonable depreciation. This forces owners into financial losses while JLR’s delays further erode resale value. JLR has refused to provide clear documentation on its buyback calculations, delayed responses to affected owners, and employed coercive tactics, telling consumers to accept flawed offers or risk future depreciation. In March 2023, nine months after purchasing our I-PACE, we experienced the first of three "Traction Battery Faults," narrowly avoiding fire. Since then, our vehicle has been restricted to an 80% charge, reducing range by 26% while still requiring outdoor parking due to fire risk. JLR’s failure to act promptly violates federal safety standards and leaves affected vehicles as potential hazards in public spaces. I urge NHTSA to investigate and enforce timely recall remedies, fair valuation processes, and immediate buyback completion. Owners should not be receiving emails like this. "It appears that we cannot agree on the repurchase of your MY2019 Jaguar I-PACE impacted by recall H514/H536. Please note that this final recall remedy will remain open on your vehicle. In the future, should you decide to accept the H536 final recall remedy (repurchase) for your MY2019 Jaguar I-PACE, the amount offered at that time may not be the same as today, due to depreciation, age, and mileage."
We started having issues with the battery back in 2023. Smaller batteries were replaced, and the car went in several times for "updates" due to recalls. The last two times were due to potential over-heating of the battery and a "track fault detected" error message displayed on the dash and the mileage decreased. Most recently the car was in the shop for 2 weeks early 2025 to replace a faulty cell in the larger battery. This was the most recent recall "fixing" the issue -- but when we received the car it wouldn't charge past 80%, meaning it was not fixed and able to charge to 100%. A letter received 3/19/25 confirmed the issue was indeed not fixed and that these cars needed to be purchased back in order to comply with safety measures. These cars are literal moving fire hazards. We have a short driveway and the car is next to our house and I am scared to have it on my property. The offers being sent are absolutely unacceptable, not even enough to cover what is remaining on the car loan. The purchasers of these cars should not be held accountable FINANCIALLY for the deplorable actions of LG and Jaguar/Land Rover.
Car has completely failed several times in the middle of busy streets including the freeway on ramp. Jag has replaced the 12v battery once, tried to update software and now the car is totally inoperable. Los Angeles Jag dealer has had the car for 5 months with no definitive communication nor reliable timeline. I have been told the car will be repaired and delivered for months, now they say Jag will not repair but I have not been contacted for the buyback. I need transportation. I need help to get them to expedite and pay me a the fair value.
Forward Collision Avoidance 7 Read
When braking the car jumps then brakes, the electrical system flickers sometimes and it won’t go into gear. If not used for a couple days a warning comes on. This has happened 2 times despite buying a new battery is what the dealership said it needed. Now it’s in the shop again for the same thing and not once did they tell me about the recall and now charging me for the software updates from the recall
on 12.25.24 I was driving when 4 warning alerts suddenly appeared on my dash: Forward Alert Not Available, ASPC not available, Stability control not available, Autonomous Emergency Braking System not available. I was able to pull over to a parking lot to read the alerts. However, when I tried to reverse out of the parking space to return home, there was no power in reverse. Luckily I was able to slightly roll backwards enough to make the turn in the mostly empty parking lot. If it had been busier I would have been unsuccessful. Once home the vehicle would not go into Park. Luckily I was not on a hill or I feel it would have rolled. The parking/emergency brake did not immediately engage. This has NOT been the first problem I've had with this vehicle and some of these systems. The manufacturer replaced the wiring harness about 6-8 weeks ago for nearly identical problems. Before that other components had to be replaced.
I was stopped at a stoplight, waiting to turn left. The light turned green I slowly engaged the accelerator. All occupants in the car felt the car jolt forward then the fault alarms went off. I was able to continue to drive the car safely and returned home. This is the second time this has happened within the last 30 days. The first time the vehicle bricked on me, it was towed to the Jaguar dealership in Tacoma Washington. There they reset the vehicle defaults disappeared, and it was returned to me. The first time this happened, I was turning into a parking lot and parked in a parking space. At that time the car would not go into park. I turned the vehicle off and turned it back on again. It remained in gear however the vehicle was not moving. It would not let me start it and I was unable to drive it.
My vehicle is part of the jaguar recall H514. I have started the buyback process with jaguar and they are being slow and now I have a car that is only charging to 80% and I am scared to drive it. when I reach out to Jaguar they tell there is a process and that this will all take time. My issues is that it was me who started the process and per your recall notice they were supposed to contact vehicle owners and begin the process. It seems like its cut and dry and there toll free customer service line is not helpful.
The BCCM in a high number of 2019 Jaguar iPace cars are going bad. The BCCM is the main charging component of the vehicle that controls the electrical system and creates a huge hazard and series of malfunctions when it goes bad. It renders the car immobile and you can not charge it. The dealerships and Jaguar North America refuse to recognize this. There is a significant backorder of these parts because of this issue and the dealership mentioned to me that they see this issue ALL THE TIME. Jaguar should be recalling this part for those of us, like myself, whose car is out of warranty.
As we were on our way to jaguar dealership, oddly enough, after we received an update 2 days ago, the front collision alarms go off with no vehicle in front or side of the vehicle. It did this 3 times just on the way to dealership. The vehicle was in motion on the city road . No other vehicles near vehicle to the front back or sides.
Steering 6 Read
24-volt battery failed, causing the steering column to lock up and all components to malfunction. All doors were locked, and I could not get out of the vehicle. I had to call my husband to let me out through the vehicle's truck manually. This has caused me a great deal of anxiety. There was no indication prior to this situation, and I have reported this issue to the dealer service department. This issue has not been inspected yet.
My car has been limited to charging only to 70%. I often smell a kind of burning plastic when driving, but no smoke or fire. In addition the console display often freezes up or is completely blank.
My car has failed while driving four different times. Each time I am driving on a busy road, I get a "traction battery fault" warning, then the vehicle loses the ability to drive and completely shuts down. Each time leaving me and my family stranded in the middle of the road. These events have happened on 10/1/2023; 4/1/2024; 7/16/2024; and 12/20/2024. My car is still in the shop undiagnosed from the 12/20/2024 incident today 1/20/2025. A month. I have had to pay for battery replacements, rentals, towing, etc. now well past $10,000.
See attached document for complaint.
35mph limit road, moderate traffic, speed of 30-35mph suddenly car shows an error message on screen with regards to electrical fault of traction battery and reduced feel of brakes. On a contrary, brakes became extremely hard and unresponsive (zero braking efficiency) - car moving 30mph, no change in forward motion (minor jitter on the steering wheel), barely managed to change lane to avoid collision. If right lane would be occupied, that would be a certain collision with a car in front of me as I would have no place to bring the car to safety. Brake message cleared when the car stopped.
Lane Departure 4 Read
How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? On multiple occasions, the vehicle crossed solid white lines during active traffic, made illegal turning maneuvers at intersections without yielding properly, and consistently camped in the passing lane at speeds below the flow of traffic. This forced other vehicles to pass on the right and created unpredictable merge scenarios that increased collision risk for surrounding drivers. Did emergency crews respond to the incident? No emergency crews responded to these specific violations, though they represent ongoing safety concerns during routine operation. Were there any warning lamps, messages, sounds, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning indicators were present. The vehicle operated normally from a system status perspective while committing the traffic violations. The illegal maneuvers occurred without any passenger notification or system alert. Was there a collision or impact with another vehicle, cyclist, pedestrian or stationary object? No collision occurred, but the illegal maneuvers created near-miss scenarios with other vehicles forced to react to unpredictable behavior. Was there a traffic violation? Yes. Multiple traffic violations including crossing solid white lines, illegal intersection maneuvers, and improper lane usage (camping in the passing lane).
Consistent faulty battery warning back in the winter. Recently the brake pedal warning comes up very often, brake also feels like I need to apply more pressure when stopping. The lane assist also always gives me a warning light saying to drive with care.
Electric system did not start (happens repeatedly) but now got a warning that brake function was impaired. Attempting to backup did not trigger backup camera nor were rct sensors activated. The rear traffic sensors not working has happened multiple times and once, it showed all clear and then suddenly a car appeared in the backup camera. Sensors never went off and if i wasn't paying attention, an accident would have occurred. Blind spot monitoring has the exact same challenge multiple times when on the highway and is very unreliable. Of course that's true for almost the entire electrical system in this vehicle.
