TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JAGUAR S-TYPE. THE CONTACT WAS BRAKING FOR A TRAFFIC STOP WHEN THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED AND THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AS THE CONTACT WAS STILL APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A DUMPSTER IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING ANY FURTHER. THE CONTACT AND THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE BLACK BOX WAS REVIEWED BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO RETRIEVE ANY INFORMATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. MY WIFE AND I OWN A 2003 JAGUAR S TYPE. ON THE MORNING OF THE INCIDENT MY WIFE GOT INTO THE PASSENGER SEAT AND I IN THE DRIVERS SEAT. WHEN I TURNED ON THE IGNITION THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG EXPLODED, THE DASH COVER THAT COVERS THE AIR BAG BLEW OUT JUST MISSING MY WIFES HEAD, AND COMPLETELY SMASHED THE WINDSHIELD, RUINING THE COVER AND THE WINDSHIELD. IT ALSO BLEW OUT THE SUNROOF BREAKING THE PLASTIC PIECES THAT ALLOW THE SUNROOF TO OPEN AND CLOSE. I CALLED JAGUAR WHO TOLD ME TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST JAGUAR DEALER. AFTER 3 WEEKS I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE CAUSE OF THE AIR BAG GOING OFF WAS A WIRE THAT CAME FROM THE BACK OF THE AIRBAG HOLDER AND CONNECTED TO THE AIRBAG. THE CARRAGE THAT THE AIRBAG SITS IN HAD VERY SHARP EDGES WHERE THE WIRE GOES THRU TO CONNECT WITH THE AIRBAG. AS A RESULT THE WIRE RUBBING ON THE AIRBAG CARRAGE RUBBED THRU THE INSULATION OF THE WIRE CAUSING THE AIR BAG TO EXPLODE UPON THE TURNING OF THE KEY. JAGUAR WILL DO NOTHING TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE ,BUT MORE THEN THAT SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED AS THE METAL DASH PLATE OVER THE AIRBAG COMES OUT AT APROX. 800 MILES PER HOUR, ENOUGH SPEED AND POWER TO COMPLETELY SHATTER THE WINDSHIELD, AND SUNROOF. *TR

The contact owns a 2003 Jaguar S-Type. The contact stated while driving approximately 20-25 MPH, the vehicle would shift into reverse independently and would lock up while the gear shifter was in a drive(D). The gear box fault warning light was illuminated. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal in order to continue to drive. Additionally, the contact stated that while at a complete stop with the vehicle in drive(D), the vehicle would reverse independently. The contact would immediately depress the brake pedal. The warning message "Gear Box Fault" was illuminated. There was no further information provided. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic several times where it was diagnosed that the failure was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 04V024000 (Power Train). The independent mechanic then contacted the local dealer who advised that the transmission control module (TCM) was previously reprogrammed under NHTSA Campaign Number: 04V024000 (Power Train) in 2004. The dealer advised that they could not assist as the software was no longer available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

The contact stated that his wife was reversing with the brake pedal being depressed when she lost control of the vehicle and it accelerated on its own almost crashing into pedestrians. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that they only repair vehicles made in 2005 and newer and the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000. VIN was unavailable.

I PULLED UP TO STOP AT A RESTAURANT CURB AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY RACED TO APPROX 6000-6500 RPM. I WAS ABLE TO KEEP MY FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE, SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION INTO PARK, AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF. WHEN I RE-STARTED THE ENGINE EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I DID' NOT THINK TOO MUCH OF THIS, OUTSIDE OF SCARING THE HELL OUT OF ME, AS I THOUGHT MY FOOT MIGHT HAVE SLIPPED OFF THE BRAKE AND ON TO THE ACCELERATOR. ABOUT ONE WEEK IT HAPPENED AGAIN AS I WAS PULLING UP TO A STOP BEHIND A VEHICLE THE ENGINE STARTED RACING AGAIN. AGAIN I WAS ABLE TO SOP, WITHIN 2 FEET, OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THE VEHICLE IS NOW AT THE JAGUAR DEALERSHIP, MARKEL, IN OMAHA, NE. JAGUAR CARS IN NEW JERSEY ([XXX]) JUST INFORMED ME THAT IT IS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND JAGUAR WOULD NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR A POSSIBLE SAFETY DEFECT. THEY OFFERED TO REPAIR IT FOR $7,500. AFTER LEAVING SEVERAL MESSAGES, MR WHITE CALLED ME BACK VERY RUDE AND STATED, THEY WOULD NOT COMPENSATE ME FOR THE RECALL DEFECT PART. AFTER I ASKED HIM TO RUN MY VIN# HE STATED THE RECALL PART WAS REPLACED 6-29-2007 UNDER MY NAME. I TOLD HIM THAT WAS IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE I DID NOT BUY THIS CAR UNTIL 7-9-2007. I FOUND A RECALL ON THE ELECTRONIC PARK BRAKE MODULE FOR A DEFECT TO BE REPLACED SINCE 2005, BUT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE SINCE 2007 WITH MANY SERVICES AT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE PURCHASED. MONDAY JUNE 11, 2018 MY PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED AND WOULD NOT RELEASE. THIS IS S SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. I WAS PARKED AWAY FROM HOME PAYING A BILL IN THE PORING RAIN AND HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO THE NEARER DEALERSHIP.IT HAS BEEN 3 DAYS NOW WITHOUT TRANSPORTATION AND I STILL DON'T KNOW IF THEY CAN FIX IT. ALL THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED WITH PROPER SERVICE AND NOTIFICATION FROM THE AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP YEARS AGO AT THE TIME OF SERVICE.

MY 2003 JAGUAR S TYPE IS GETTING A PARKING BRAKE FAULT/ENGINE SYSTEM FAULT AND DSC NOT AVAILABLE AT THE SAME TIME WITH THE ABS BRAKE SYMBOL. I HAVE NEW BRAKES ON MY CAR AND THE ROTORS ARE GOOD AS WELL. I WAS DRIVING AND MY CAR LIGHTING SYSTEM CAME UP WITH THAT ABOVE AND STARTED TO MOVE SLOWLY ON A CITY STREET. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. I SEE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE PARKING BRAKE MODULE BACK IN 2005 BUT I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS CAR. SINCE PURCHASING THIS CAR IT HAS BEEN TOWED 2 TIMES, SERVICED EIGHT TIMES IN A 12 MONTH PERIOD. I FOUND IN THE GLOVE DEPT AFTER PURCHASING THIS CAR A MANUFACTURE DEFECT SIGN .THE CAR KEPT REGISTERING "RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE 3 VISITS. BRAKE PROBLEM,STEERING WHEEL,ABS FAULT. PRESENT PROBLEM:THEY KEPT MY CAR 2 AND HALF MONTHS TO FIX A WHEEL GUARD AND BUMPER RAIL TOLD ME THE COMPRESSOR AND OTHER PROBLEMS EXIST/WOULD COST $2300 TO FIX .MY INSURANCE COMPANY. PAID THEM AND THEN THEY CHARGED MY INS. CO ANOTHER $1300 MORE. I WENT TO PICK UP MY CAR THEY TOLD ME I HAD TO PAY $1600 BECAUSE MY INS URANCE REFUSED TO PAY. WHEN I GOT HOME CAR WOULDN'T START RIGHT /THEN REGISTERED NO ENGINE FLUIDS /CONTACTED THEM ASK IF ISHOULD TRY TO RETURN WITH IT/THEY SPENT 20 MINUTES TOLD ME THE CAR WAS OK /I ASK IF THEY PUT FLUIDS IN THEY SAID,'YES".DROVE THE CAR HOME IN LESS THAN 2 DAYS CAR MONITOR REGISTERED "TRANSMISSION FAULT". SINCE THEN MY ROTORS CONSTANTLY KEEP WARPING, EVEN AFTER I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TWICE AND MY REAR BRAKES HAVE UNEVENLY WORN DOWN TO THE POINT THAT MY RIGHT REAR ROTOR STARTED GRINDING. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP NUMEROUS TIMES TO HAVE WARRANTY WORK DONE AND I HAVE INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP OF THE SPECIFIC TSBS THAT CORRELATE TO MY ISSUES. MY REAR PARKING BRAKE MODULE WAS REPLACED TWICE, AS WAS MY RIGHT REAR WHEEL HUB. MY 2003 JAGUAR S-TYPE WAS RECALLED IN 2004, RECALL #42036 (R513) POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I PURCHASED MY JAGUAR AS THE SECOND OWNER 1 1/2 YEARS AGO. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH THE CAR. FOR INSTANCE WHEN I ATTEMPT TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY AND TRY TO SPEED UP THE TRANSMISSION SLOWS THE CAR DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY. IF I AM TRAVELING AT 55 M.P.H AND ACCELERATE THE CAR WILL IMMEDIATELY SLOW TO ABOUT 30 M.P.H OR LESS. IT IS VERY SCARY! AND COULD RESULT IN A CRASH (AS THE WARNING STATED ON THE RECALL)! THE REPAIR SHOP RAN A COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC ON MY CAR. THIS VEHICLE EXPERIENCED MAJOR MALFUNCTIONS IN PERFORMANCE WITH GEAR BOX AND BRAKING SYSTEMS IN WHICH IT COULD NOT BE PROPERLY SHIFTED OUT OF PARK, LOST RPM, PARKING BRAKE FAILURE, ABS WARNING LIGHTS AND MAJOR ENGINE LIGHT INDICATOR WARNINGS. THE CAR COULD NOT BE SAFELY DRIVEN AND SUFFERED A MAJOR BREAKDOWN WITH LESS THAN 9500 MILES, FLATBEDDED TO SPORTIQUE MOTORS IN HUNTINGTON, NY ON 12/10/2004, RETURNED ON 12/15/2004 ONLY TO BE FLATBEDDED AGAIN ON 12/17/2004. A NEW COMPUTER WAS NOT INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE AS PROMISED AT THAT TIME, AND THE COMPUTER WAS SIMPLY REFLASHED. AT 33,948 MILES OUT OF WARRENTY ON MAY 26, 2010 THIS VEHICLE SUFFERED THE SAME MAJOR BREAKDOWN AS DESCRIBED ABOVE AND WAS AGAIN FLATBEDDED TO HUNTINGTON LAND ROVER JAGUAR, FORMERLY SPORTIQUE JAGUAR, HUNTINGTON, NY. I WAS TRAVELING IN MY CAR AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. I SLOWED FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT. AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP (RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE), THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV, THE REAR WHEELS STARTED TO TURN PROPELLING ME FORWARD. I PLACED BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE, PUSHED THE BRAKE TO THE FLOOR, HOWEVER THE RPM GAUGE WAS MOVING TO MAXIMUM AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO PROPEL ME FORWARD. THE REAR END STARTED SLIDING TO THE LEFT. I SLAMMED THE CAR INTO PARK AND THE TIRES STOPPED MOVING, THE RPMS DROPPED, AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHORTED RESULTING IN TAKING THE RADIO OFFLINE AND TO STATION 600 AM. I WAS ABLE TO AVOID THE STOPPED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME BY 2 INCHES. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS EVALUATED APPROX 1 MONTH AGO FOR THE SAME TYPE OF FAILURE, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE EVENT. THE VEHICLE HAS TOO MANY DEFECTS IN VARIOUS AREAS FOR A THREE YEAR OLD. MY FEAR IS THAT THERE IS MORE TO SURFACE AND I WILL BE HOLDING A LEMON IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE.

MULTIPLE FAILURES; GAS TANK CABLE, THERMOSTAT, CONDENSER, REAR /FRONT SUSPENSION AND STEERING COLUMN. *BF VEHICLE HAD 5 FLAT TIRES THE GAS TANK CABLE WAS BAD. THE THERMOSTAT HAD TO BE REPLACED. REAR SUSPENSION HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE BBB. JAGUAR WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THE WARRANTY. *TC

PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE'S ENGINE AND FUEL PUMP. *MR THE VEHICLE WOULD SPUTTER AND JOLT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON, IT TURNED OUT THAT ONE OF THE INJECTOR PLUGS WERE NOT FULLY CONNECTED AND THE FUEL SYSTEM NEEDED REPAIRS AND PARTS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO LEAK GASOLINE. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED A NEW VEHICLE WITH NO RECALLS OR PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. *SC *JB

THE ABS LIGHT AND A MESSAGE STATING ABS FAULT/PARK BRAKE FAULT WOULD DISPLAY WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WHEN THE CAR WAS STOPPED AND RE-STARTED, THE MESSAGE WOULD RE-SET. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES (> 5), AND THE DEALER DID NOT FIX FOR SOME TIME BECAUSE THEY NEVER GOT TO SEE THE MESSAGE. WE NOTICED THAT THE PROBLEM OCCURRED DURING OR AFTER A HEAVY RAIN. THE DEALER THOUGHT THERE MIGHT HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM WITH A SENSOR ON THE WHEEL.ULTIMATELY, THE DEALER REPLACED THE ABS MODULE.*AK

THE WARNING 'DISC NOT AVAILABLE' DISPLAYS INTERMITTENTLY ON THE DISPLAY WHILE DRIVING. 'DSC' IS THE DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL FUNCTION. SOMETIMES THE PARK BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON AT THE SAME TIME. WHEN THE PARK BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON, THE CAR MUST BE IMMEDIATELY STOPPED AND RE-STARTED. RE-STARTING THE VEHICLE RESETS THE MESSAGES. THIS PROBLEM IS CURRENTLY BEING WORKED ON AT THE DEALER. AT 11 MILES A SMALL NOISE WAS THERE. I LOOK AT TIRES & SAW NOTHING. AFTER ROAD TRIP TOLD SERVICE TECH AND SALESMAN. WAS TOLD ROCK IN TIRE, AT 53 MILE NOISE CAME BACK. CALLED SALESMAN, AND GENERAL MANAGER WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN TO SHOP MONDAY. PAINT HAS SCRATCHES THREW OUT CAR PAINT.

THE GEAR BOX MALFUNCTIONED. *JB THE TRANSMISSION STUCK IN LOW GEAR. THERE WAS DOUBLE HESITATION WHEN MOVING FROM LOW GEAR (IN AUTOMATIC MOVE), AND DID NOT OCCUR BEFORE THE LAST GEAR BOX FAULT. THE A/C SCREEN BLINKED ON/OFF. THE AUDIO UNIT WAS REPROGRAMMED, THE MODULE WAS RECONFIGURED, THE GEAR SELECTOR WAS REPLACED, AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. *SCC
