My wife's 2005 Jaguar S-Type R leaks fuel, and is worst after refilling the tank. The car frequently loses all engine power while driving with no warning. It frequently refuses to restart, and then I have to have it towed sometimes at great distances from home at a cost of over $700 to my repair shop in Virginia. My wife is now too afraid to drive the car because of the gas fumes, fear of a fire, and sudden engine failure. My service technician at Mountain Valley Motors believes the problem has to do with a faulty Jaguar fuel system.

The contact owns a 2005 Jaguar S-Type. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware of a fuel odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was determined that the fuel tank, fuel pump, flange, retaining ring, pipe feed, fuel tank straps, heat shield, fuel hose, heat sleeve, evaporator pipe, electronic control unit, fuel tank harness, cable tie, and cabin overlay wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.

I WAS DRIVING, AND I SMELLED SMOKE SO I DECIDED TO PULL OVER. UPON CLOSER EXAMINATION I DISCOVERED THAT THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER, WHICH I NEVER USE! WHEN I TOUCHED THE COVER FOR THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER IT WAS HOT. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES MY CAR WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE, AND A SMALL FIRE BEGAN TO BURN IN THE TOP CENTER CONSOLE CONTAINING THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER. I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE 'ROAD LEVELING HEADLAMPS.' THEY MOTOR DOWN TO SUCH A POSITION THAT I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE THIS VEHICLE SAFELY AFTER DARK. AFTER ENGAGING REVERSE, THE TRANSMISSION FROZE. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT FROM REVERSE AND INTO DRIVE OR ANY OTHER GEAR. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE SHOP. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS "[TRANSMISSION] CABLE SELECTOR BOLTS BACKED OUT." THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AFTER THE INSTALLATION OF NEW SELECTOR CABLE BOLTS. HAD THESE BOLTS COME LOOSE WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY STREET, A SERIOUS CRASH WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. I COULD NOT GET THE CAR INTO REVERSE WHEN TRYING TO BACK UP TO TURN AROUND IN A RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED ON A FLAT-BED TRUCK BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN ANY GEAR OR START, ONCE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. I TOOK MY CAR IN AT THE END OF APRIL/EARLY MAY SOMETIME FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO BE REPAIRED , I TOOK MY CAR INTO JAGUAR AS I NORMALLY TO GET THIS WORK DONE. I GOT MY CAR BETWEEN MAY 8TH AND 9TH BECAUSE I DROVE IT TO MY GRADUATION MAY 10TH. LITERALLY 7 DAYS MAY 16TH AFTER IT WAS FIXED IT WOULD NOT START AND ERROR MESSAGES APPEARED ON DASH BOARD THAT I'VE NEVER SEEN. I CALLED THE SHOP AND THEY STATED TOO HAVE IT TOWED. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GET IT IN UNTIL JUNE BUT HAVE IT TOWED SO I DID. ON JULY 16TH THE RED TOLD ME THIS "WE ARE REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION SLEEVE THAT WE REPLACED LAST TIME. INITIALLY WHILE BEING PARKED IN DEC. 2014, I STARTED THE CAR BUT COULD NOT RELEASE THE ELECTRONIC PARK BRAKE. I HAD TO DRIVE IT TO A MECHANIC 3 MILES AWAY WITH THE BRAKES SMOKING. THEY SAW A PROCEDURE FOR RESETTING THE PARK BRAKE AND GAVE ME A COPY. ALL WAS WELL FOR 2 MOS. BUT DRIVING ALONG ABOUT 30MPH THEY SUDDENLY LOCKED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND FORTUNATELY HAD BEEN CARRYING TOOLS FOR THIS AND PERFORMED THE PROCEDURE. IT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES IN 2015 AFTER I WAS STOPPED WITH ENGINE OFF. I CALLED JAGUAR AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL, BUT I HAVE BEEN AFRAID TO DRIVE IT LONG DISTANCES AND DO NOT WANT TO SELL IT AS IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. WHILE TRAVELING ALONG A BUSY HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CAR ENGINE SHUT DOWN. WE WERE UNABLE TO GET THE ENGINE TO START BACK UP. I WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERNAL ROAD ~45MPH, NOT ACCELERATING , JUST MAINTAINING SPEED. THE ENGINE BASICALLY SHUT DOWN, AND I HAD TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER. I RESTARTED THE CAR BUT NOW THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON IN ADDITION TO THE OTHER ISSUES MENTIONED BEFORE AND THE CAR BATTERY DRAINED OUT COMPLETELY AND WENT LIMP. I GOT THE CAR JUMP STARTED AND EVEN THEN IT SHOWED A "ABS FAULT". I WAITED FOR 30 MINS WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND THEN FINALLY DROVE IT BACK TO MY HOUSE. I WAS TRAVELING IN MY CAR AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. I SLOWED FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT. AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP (RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE), THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV, THE REAR WHEELS STARTED TO TURN PROPELLING ME FORWARD. I PLACED BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE, PUSHED THE BRAKE TO THE FLOOR, HOWEVER THE RPM GAUGE WAS MOVING TO MAXIMUM AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO PROPEL ME FORWARD. THE REAR END STARTED SLIDING TO THE LEFT. I SLAMMED THE CAR INTO PARK AND THE TIRES STOPPED MOVING, THE RPMS DROPPED, AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHORTED RESULTING IN TAKING THE RADIO OFFLINE AND TO STATION 600 AM. I OWE A JAGUAR S-TYPE IT HAS SEVERAL MECHANICAL PROBLEM. I NOTICED THERE IS NO DATA NO WHERE POSTED REGARDING THIS VEHICLE. (NHTSA,IIHS, OR DOT). NO DATA ANYWHERE ON THE JAGUAR S-TYPE. I THINK THAT SHOULD THROW UP SOME RED FLAG AS TO WHY ARE THEY HIDING SOMETHING? (1) ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MY WINDSHIELD WIPER FAIL TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN FOR SERVICE, THE MECHANICS STATED THAT THERE WAS A FUSE BLOWN, HOWEVER WHEN THE FUSE WAS REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CONTINUED TO MALFUNCTION. THEY WORK LESS THAN 50 % OF THE TIME NEEDED. (2) I LIVE IN MICHIGAN, ALOT OF SNOW, ICE & RAIN, ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION I WOULD BE DRIVE IN THE SNOW OR RAIN, AND THE WIPERS WOULD JUST STOP OPERATING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I HAVE LOSS TIME AT WORK BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE, ALSO MISSED SEVERAL APPOINTMENTS BECAUSE OF THIS CONTINUE PROBLEM. (3) ONCE THE FUSE WAS REPLACED FOR THE WIPERS, HOWEVER THE LAST THREE TIMES THIS HAS HAPPEN TO ME. WHEN CHECKED BY A MECHANICS, NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND WITH THE WIPER OR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, HOWEVER THE WIPERS SEEM TO HAVE A SHORTAGE OF SOME KIND. *NM

WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO COME TO A STOP VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY COMMENCED TO ACCELERATE. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. ON TWO OCCASIONS IT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO HIT A POLE AND THE BACK BUMPER OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
