How to read a Ferrari F430 VIN — every digit explained
Every Ferrari F430 carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. Tells you it's a Ferrari and the country it was built in.
- VDS (4–8) — model, body style, engine, trim & restraints. The 8th digit is the engine code.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built (e.g. R = 2024, S = 2025).
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this F430.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:
Where to find your F430 VIN
- Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
- Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.

2007 Ferrari F430 recalls 1
Engine And Engine Cooling:engine
What's wrong. Ferrari is recalling 1,950 my 2005-2007 f40 spider vehicles. The defect involves the hydraulic hoses for the convertible top that are located inside of the engine compartment. The heat from the engine may cause hair-line cracks to form in the hoses which may result in fluid leakage from the convertible top hydraulic system.
Risk. This leakage in turn, will cause the convertible top warning light to illuminate and if not remedied, could ultimately leak fluid into the engine compartment causing smoke and a fire, rendering the vehicle inoperable and possibly resulting in a crash.
Fix. Dealers will install protective heat shields over the convertible top hydraulic lines to insulate them from the heat of the engine compartment. This service will be performed free of charge. The recall began on february 9, 2009. Owners may contact ferrari at 201-816-2600.
2006 Ferrari F430 recalls 2
Power Train:manual Transmission
What's wrong. On certain coupe and spider vehicles equipped with manual six-speed transmission, there is a non-conforming right-angle union in the clutch pump. This could cause a hair-line crack to form under normal conditions due to heat, which could result in fluid leakage from the braking/clutch hydraulic system.
Risk. This leakage, in turn, will cause the braking/clutch hydraulic system fluid level warning light to illuminate and, if not remedied, could ultimately affect the functionality of the clutch control pedal. This could result in a reduction in the driver's ability to shift gears while driving, rendering the vehicle inoperable which could result in a crash.
Fix. Dealers will replace the non-conforming union in the clutch. In addition, the seal ring, rubber hose and screw collars that are attached to the union will be replaced. The recall began on january 3, 2007. Owners may contact ferrari at 1-201-816-2600.

This happens anytime the outside temp is over 90 degrees. When driving more than half of all buttons including hazard how can i setting and turn signals do not work

The exhaust manifold has cracked, ferrari is aware of the problem. The defect that can cause cat induction, then engine failure (and should not be driven). Ferrari is not willing to replace the manifolds. The manifolds were not fit for service and fail the implied warranty of merchantability. Ferrari should replace or recall all 430 cars that have not been changed to second generation manifolds regardless of warranty status. 2005 to 2009 anything that could result in engine failure or render the car inoperable during operation, and is a known defects, should be fixed by ferrari. *tr

Ref vin# [xxx], you will not find it in the u.s database (that 8th character "l" stands for latin america). Good day nhtsa, i believe ferrari of italy has messed up again on their vin# and title naming conventions. I just started deportation my 2007 ferrari f430 back to europe, seems the ?american? Specification car they titled and sold me in oct 2013 is actually a ?latin american? Specification car. I just retired after 23 years from the u.s. Army, i have multiple combat tours and i just got ripped off for $167,000. By an authorized ferrari dealership in germany (my last duty station where the purchase was made, this was my retirement gift). In feb 2014, when the car arrived at the u.s. Entry port in ga, the u.s customs officials noticed the vin# did not match the title or the build out of the car. The car was confiscated and as it is not able to be modified to meet u.s. Dot standards, it can?t stay in the usa. Now the dealer is stonewalling me and will not talk to me about taking the car back and paying the associated fines and penalties. The dealership will not take calls/e-mail/or visits from american soldiers i have sent there. This authorized ferrari dealership in munchen, germany has 100% of my money, their position is- you have the car, we have your money, you're out of the country of germany so you can?t prosecute us for the fraudulent sale we perpetrated on you?..too bad american soldier. Who can i talk to about this ? I have all the original documentation from 2007 showing the game ferrari and the german dealership played. Reading the web pages on u.s. Dot actions against ferrari, i see that this has happened before. Maybe one phone call from your office to ferrari hq in italy to ask them to take back the car and make this right is all i need to solve the problem. Losing $167,000., having it stolen by a shady dealership is very bad. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Exterior Lighting 1 Read
Common problem on these cars, the outer tail light design is flawed and the mounting points crack and fail. Causing the tail lamp to fall off its mount and fall off the car, possibly striking cars behind and eliminating one of the brake lamps and signal lamps. This has happened twice in the last year while the vehicle was in motion. I have repaired it several times and it continues to fail.
