How to read a Ferrari Mondial 8 VIN — every digit explained
Every Ferrari Mondial 8 carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. Tells you it's a Ferrari and the country it was built in.
- VDS (4–8) — model, body style, engine, trim & restraints. The 8th digit is the engine code.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built (e.g. R = 2024, S = 2025).
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Mondial 8.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:

Suspension:multiple Axle
What's wrong. Under certain specific load conditions, such as accidental high speed impacts on the rear suspension system, the rear wheel bearings and hub assemblies could deteriorate. Consequence of defect: prolonged use of deteriorated wheel bearings and hub assemblies results in rear end noise and vibration. This could ultimatly cause impaired handling and possible loss of control, resulting in an accident.
Fix. Replace both right and left rear hub/hub carrier assemblies.
Suspension:front:wheel Bearing
What's wrong. The front wheel bearing may deteriorate, causing vibration and noise from the front suspension assembly. Consequence of defect: continued use of the car after noticing vibration and noise could cause handling difficulty and result in loss of control and an accident.
Fix. Replace part of both right and left wheel hub assembly.
Steering: Steering Wheel/handle Bar
What's wrong. The splined coupling between the steering column and steering box could develop internal corrosion due to its exposed position and characteristics.
