How to read a Forest River Cherokee VIN — every digit explained
Every Forest River Cherokee carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. 4T1 = Toyota, built in the USA.
- VDS (4–8) — model line, body style, engine & restraint system.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built. H = 2017.
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Cherokee.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:
Where to find your Cherokee VIN
- Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
- Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
- Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
- Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

Passenger side rear: After mounting the new tire, I decided to check the other two tires. I noticed a bubble forming on the passenger side rear tire. I removed that and the driver's side rear tire and took them to be replaced, also on [XXX]. (no pictures of those two). The three tires were replaced at Discount Tire in Alcoa, TN. While there was no blowout, it would not have been too many more miles before there would have been one, which would have been at highway speeds. All tires were properly inflated and I do have a TPMS system installed. No alerts were displayed. I was not there for the first tire failure. My practice is to drive at no more than 60 mph with occasional speeds of no more than 65 mph on downhill stretches so speed should not have been an issue. There was no road hazard damage. I purchased Goodyear Endurance tires to replace the Castle Rock tires except for the spare. It will be replaced soon, before our next trip. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Castle Rock brand spare tire exploded. Camper was parked. It was on the spare carrier, has always been covered to protect it from the sun. I has never been on the ground.
When doing a walk around I found a very large bubble on the sidewall facing under the trailer. If it contacted the leaf springs, it was only 1" away, it would have blown. The tire is a Castle Rock ST235/80R/E. I have a TPMS system that I monitor all the time all the tires were within compliance when I found the problem, 85 psi to 90 psi. There was no damage we installed the spare and took our time heading home, less than a two-hour trip. I went to a tire shop and had all five tires replaced. While replacing the tires the mechanics found another bubble on the side wall facing inside on another tire same make and size. I had all the tires inspected by the tire road service company. The only warning I had was the visual inspection, looking under the trailer. If one of these tires exploded there could have been a major crash since they are on a Firth Wheel Toy Hauler and a possibility of someone getting severely hurt or killed. There are numerous complaints on social media. I don't understand how our government can allow this manufacturer to continue making these defective tires.
We bought our travel trailer brand new and took it on a trip. After 8 days of traveling, the Castle Rock tire ST 205-75-R14 and D105/101L experienced a catastrophic blowout with our young children inside the tow vehicle. The tire immediately disintegrated, causing damage to our trailer but also creating road hazards for fellow travelers on the highway. We immediately pulled to the shoulder, but there was nothing left of the tire. I am a member of a Forest River owner’s group on Facebook, and there are literally dozens of other people who have also experienced catastrophic failures on Castle Rock tires, since they come stock from Forest River. They are unsafe.
Tire exploded during highway use creating a hazard to everyone near by. This is the second time this brand exploded on this trailer, same brand, same tire, different batches. There also also hundreds of complaints online on these tires. Pressure was checked that same morning and was not used above 75mph
Tire size was ST 205 / 75 R 15. This tire experienced a significant belt separation failure that I fortunately noticed before departing our campsite. While doing a walk around inspection before departure, I noticed a severe tread deformity in the front passenger side tire on our camper. The tires were cold and the ambient air temperature was in the low 60's. Before removing the tire and wheel from the trailer, I checked the tire pressure on all 4 tires, and all were within 2 psi of the recommended 65 psi cold pressure, including the failing tire. I removed the wheel and tire assembly and deflated it for safety, and then took it to a local tires shop to replace the tire. They diagnosed it as belt separation and further stated that it would have likely failed with a blowout within a few miles if I hadn't caught it. The tire had an estimated 15,000 miles on it at the time, but had been professionally repaired for a screw puncture approximately 7,000 miles earlier.
ST 225/75R15 One driver side tire blew in May/2025 which caused extensive damage to the RV floor and sidewall. I replaced and did not file a claim. My family was in the tow vehicle when the blowout occurred. Debris was thrown across the highway and I had no room on the side of the highway to change the tire. Police called. Yesterday July 14/2025, the spare tire blew up all on its own while at a campground. It was on the back of the camper not being used. The spare tire cover was destroyed. Neighbors thought a propane tank exploded. Anybody walking by could have been seriously injured. I did a search and found a recall for these tires.
Had for approximately 3 years. Spare tire never on ground but suddenly bulging.
Camped all weekend, and started to return home. Merged onto highway 10 miles from campground, and 2.5 miles onto the highway at 65 mph, passenger side front tire blew the tread off and split tire from bead to bead perpendicular to tread. Tires were at 80psi before trip. ST225/75r15

There is a bracket that welds to the frame and supports the crank for the ice house and the entire weight of the RV. there are some very questionable welds on the brackets that looks like they were blown through the metal so now that bracket is bent and unlevel and digging into the side of the fish house causing the diamond plate in the wheel house to come off and expose the insulation.
One of the frameless windows detached and flew off the vehicle while driving on the interstate. The window is held by adhesive bond on a hinged upper and fixed lower attachment bar. Upon inspection, the adhesive bond holding the window to the lower bar failed completely, causing the window to flap freely on the hinged upper bar. At highway speeds, this rapidly caused the window to hinge upwards and shatter into multiple pieces against the side of the vehicle, and large pieces of glass fell from the RV potentially putting others in danger. This exact component (Hehr/Lippert 3000 series frameless windows) has been recalled for previous year models for the same adhesive bond failure. Clear Vision window -JPH
Broken welds on Frame, Axle supports, and body support brackets broken & weld failure
The contact owns a 2022 Forest River Cherokee. The contact stated that all three slides of the RV extended independently. While attempting to return the slide into place, the contact was unable to retract the slide. Additionally, the contact stated that the failure prevented him from having the RV taken to the dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V243000 (Equipment). The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they would send a mechanic to his location to repair the failure. However, the dealer failed to provide further assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75.
The contact owns a 2021 Forest River Cherokee Toy Hauler. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the frame was flexing at the RV pin box location. The contact stated that while unhitching the trailer, the contact noticed that there was weld separation on the left and right sides of the tow hitch outer frame. Additionally, the contact stated that the cargo door holding the propane tank was opening unintendedly while driving. The trailer was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with spring damage, and the contact was informed that the cargo door that held the propane tank was opening unintendedly because the frame was flexing at the RV pin box location. The Lippert manufacturer that installed the frame was contacted and advised the contact to send pictures of the failure. The manufacturer, Forest River, was notified of the failure and advised the contact to apply gel in the weld gaps. The trailer was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
The slide mechanism and gear rack are out of spec per their manufacturer of the component (schwintek inverted gear rack). On my unit the “shoe” part of the rack has failed (possibly because of improper installation) and I am afraid that if the slide is not secured by the gear rack that it could slip out while the vehicle is in motion. Lippert does have a TSB for this, but apparently doesn’t apply to my date range. Lippert TSB is 146-001-2022. Forest river tells me “this can happen over time from usage.” Lippert (schwintek mfg) says: “The concern appears to stem from an out-of-spec installation. We recommend reaching out to the coach manufacturer, as they may participate in resolving the issue” Neither company appear to be concerned for safety
Front entry door opens while driving down the road. I have started deadbolt locking it. Lucky the hand rail folded in has caught the door from swinging out. Still could be dangerous for other drivers if something inside falls out of the RV.
Noticed interior night stand and paneling buckled. Upon inspection, found multiple welds on frame and hitch area that had separated due to poorly performed welds. Contacted both Forest River and Lippert. Neither were interested in this safety concern. The failures of these welds will result in this RV detaching from tow vehicle if not identified soon enough. Mine was very close to this!
We have had our travel trailer for about 1 year and have had it in for service to the bedroom door as we noted it was sticking. This weekend the bedroom door failed. The frame of the door itself came away from the door making it difficult to open. At the same time the other entry door was stuck shut. My wife was unable to open the door. I was able to open it with great difficulty. The door side of the trailer was in direct afternoon sunlight it it appeared to have swollen and jammed itself in the doorway. It did not resolve itself until the outside temperature dropped and we ran the air-conditioning inside the trailer. If my wife would have been inside alone and would have needed to escape the trailer should would not have been able to. In researching forums and forest river related Facebook groups this appears to be a common issue.
Mounting nuts from body to frame are loose after only 2 years of use.

Leaf spring fractured and failed twice on the same side of RV following NTHSA mandated recall repair 16V579, and safety modification kit part# 425750. This time the leaf spring failure caused the tire to rub the wheel well and create enough friction to start the interior wheel well carpeting and a garment bag on there to ignite and smolder filling the interior cabin with smoke. Contacted manufacturer Forest River regarding this issue and to obtain information including torque settings and recall kit spacer dimensions on their installed recall modification kit. After not hearing back from Andrew at Forest River- Cherokee customer service for a week regarding (claim reference # [XXX]) I contacted him again and he claimed to have no resolution/answers for me. Following that telephone conversation , It has been well over 2 weeks and he has not responded back to my request regarding the NHTSA safety recall kit issues. If my personal safety is at risk while pulling this travel trailer I would like to know about it. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
While driving on a straight, smooth road at approximately 30 mph, the trailer axle suddenly broke free, causing the trailer to flip onto its side. The trailer appears to be a total loss. The towing vehicle was damaged slightly. As far as i can tell, the ride side leaf spring broke, causing the axle to break free. The axle tube bent and broke completely near the left side leaf spring. There was no indication of an issue prior to this. The trailer was riding level and not pulling or jerking the towing vehicle prior to the spontaneous, catastrophic failure.
The Frame which connect the Main Beams of Frame to the Axle had the welds brake and frame twist not allowing the suspension to connect to the frame. Talked with manufacturer and in their words "You are not the only one dealing with this issue on this model"

When I bought this camper I paid extra for an extensive warranty including the tires. On a recent trip I blew a tire on the trailer and contacted the warranty company. Was instructed to take the trailer and tire to an authorized service center. Upon doing so the service center notified me that the axles were bent because they were insufficient for the size of the trailer. The gentleman I spoke with said that regardless of what the tags read on the camper the axles were not sufficient for the load rating listed on the tag inside the camper. Thus they put excessive strain on the tires and one blew while I was traveling on the highway. He told me another one was ready to blow out. I reached out to the RV dealership where I bought the trailer and they referred me to the trailer manufacturer who denied any responsibility and claimed that the axles were sufficient for that trailer. This is a recurring issue with these travel trailers as I have friends who have the same models and one has already had to replace his axles because they bent and a tire blew out and damaged the side of his camper and the other one changed his tires and springs to help offset the weight issue. I even reached out to the axle manufacturer who supplied these components to the RV company and all they provided was this measurements I needed to order new axles. All I wanted from the RV manufacturer was even a pittance of an offer to help me with this issue but all they did was claim that all the parts were good and they weren't responsible. I have ordered new heavier duty axles and larger tires to accommodate the weight. As I stated the RV repair center that is working on my trailer said the axles were insufficient and the tires were actually too small for a trailer that size. Apparently the only way an RV company will do the right thing is if they are threatened with a lawsuit. Forest River has already been implicated in a lawsuit for other issues. So they are aware that they have issues!
No current incidents that I'm aware of. Landing gear on the 5th wheel isn't designed for this heavy trailer. There is a potential for someone to be seriously hurt, or killed if they have to resort to using bottle Jack's to lift trailer. Also the suspension is very weak, and i believe could break, and cause a major accident...
The contact owns a 2021 Forest River Cherokee RV. The contact stated that as the tires of the RV were frequently flat, the RV was taken to the dealer to determine the cause of the failure. The dealer diagnosed that one of the axles was bent due to the overloading of the RV. The contact stated that the dealer did not provide any further information on the axle that had failed. The contact stated that the load capacity of the two axles was 7,000 pounds, 3,500 pounds each. The contact stated that the load capacity of the RV was 7,934 pounds with a dry weight or unloaded weight of 5,960 pounds, which allowed him to load a maximum of 1,974 pounds per the manufacturer's instructions; however, the contact had never exceeded the maximum of 1,974 pounds when loading the RV even though the manufacturer’s sticker indicated not to overload the camper with more than 1,500 pounds. The contact had been trying to reach the manufacturer and was awaiting a callback. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,900.
The contact owns a 2021 Forest River Cherokee Travel trailer. The contact stated that while the travel trailer was parked at a park, the contact performed an inspection and noticed a metal bar had fractured and detached from the rear passenger's side shock. A park host informed the contact that she could not drive the travel trailer on the highway. The travel trailer was towed to the dealer and diagnosed that the shocks were too small to handle the weight of the travel trailer. The travel trailer was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the shocks were adequate for the weight of the travel trailer.
On my 2021 Forest River Cherokee Wolf Pup 16TS, I observed on the passenger side frame where the wheel is that at some point the axle/leaf spring components came in contact (perhaps many times) with the frame of the trailer. This had made a noticeable dent in the frame. The trailer was not heavily loaded and within GVAWR, GVWR, & CCC limits. From my observations, had I not already changed out the brake assembly's after discovering a failed component inside them, it is clear that the axle collision would have severed the electric brake cables resulting in the trailer brakes being unable to respond and/or failing altogether. My personal assessment of this is that the combination of the 3500lb rated axle as well as the capacity of the leaf springs on these trailers is not sufficient enough to account for allowed cargo weight, plus standard road conditions to avoid having the axle come in contact with the frame above it.
Trailer was built with the dry weight of 3,527 pounds. Factory installed an axle and suspension that is rated at 3,500 pounds. I'm concerned that this will be unsafe to operate on the roadway as the components wear. Currently the leaf springs are almost completely flat without any extra load in the trailer.

Travel trailer parked at rv campsite. During morning hours, refrigerator caught fire behind unit during normal use. Occupants smelled smoke and called fire department. Before fire was contained, enough damage was done to total travel trailer. Refrigerator is located by door on unit. If this had happened while occupants were asleep, injuries or death could have occurred. When filing claim with insurance company, we found that the refrigerator had been recalled by dometic. No recall notice had ever been received from dometic or the dealer (funtime rv). Travel trailer is a total loss and even though damages are covered, if this had occurred at a different time or location, the results could have been catastrophic. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 forest river cherokee trailer. The vehicle has a dometic refrigerator, model rm2652. The contact stated that the trailer caught fire. slide out was activated but only left hand side moved right side was bound up. The guide came apart on the right side h column and completely bound it up. It took 3 people to assist me at the campsite to force the one side back in so I could get it home without obstructing traffic. This was an end of season purchase we only used the camper on 1 trip, I calculated that we have used the slide out on this new RV a total of 13 times always following the instruction on opening and closing it. That seems like very low usage for wear and tear to be a factor. Additionally this slide out system was recalled on similar 2022 RVs for this exact issue. The recall need to be expanded to all manufacturers that these defective parts were installed. This is a parts quality issue and lippert is aware of it. I was told that it was not covered and paid to have this fixed myself, while trying to address this issue with lippert they told me they need a sticker off the old part, when I picked up the unit the service department told me they did not keep the old parts. Lippert has told me I’m out of luck because of that. Please consider investigating just how many units and consumer were truly affected due to lipperts negligence.

Castle Rock brand spare tire exploded. Camper was parked. It was on the spare carrier, has always been covered to protect it from the sun. I has never been on the ground.
Forest river is putting under rated tires on rv’s causing tires to blow out I purchased a rv and it came with tires only rated for 5,200 lbs. my trailer weighs 5400 empty and has a gross weight of 7500 lbs and I’ve heard of numerous blowouts of the tires
My wife and I bought a 2022 Forest River Cherokee Wolfpack 325 for $70K in MARCH about 5 hours from our home. Not even 3 hours later, driving home down the interstate the left rear tire, hub, and everything came flying off down the interstate. FOREST RIVER RVs ARE UNSAFE! Luckily the tire did not hit anyone. We called the dealership we bought it from and they said to have it towed back to them to be fixed or we could take it to another Forest River vendor to be replaced under warranty. We decided to drive it about 60 miles on 3 tires to a Camping World for repairs. 3 days later Camping World had an opening for the RV to be inspected. The technician said one of the tires did not have a cotter pin installed and that more than likely the tire that came off did not have one either. The technician said we were extremely lucky the other tire did not fall off. This is unacceptable. Forest River needs to inspect their RV's more carefully before saling them to vendors. We could have crashed, the tire could have hit another car, or worse someone may have even died. The CEO of the vendor we purchased from personally called us not even an hour after the incident to make sure we were ok and gave us his personal number if we needed anything. He also said to call him when we made it safely to our destination to make sure we got home ok. Forest River never reached out to make sure we were ok, to apologize, or to even understand how the tire came off from our point of view. After several weeks of not hearing an update, I called Camping World and they said Forest River had them rewrite the warranty 3 times. After reaching out to Forest River for another week, I finally had a 3 way call with Forest River and Camping World to get the Warranty squared away. AFTER 5 WEEKS!!!! and multiple calls to Camping World and Forest River, Forest River finally approved the warranty and Camping World ordered the parts. ONLY 2 PARTS ARRIVED at Camping World. Camping World said they did not know where

The aluminum wheels being used on the forest river cherokee built travel trailers are defective. The wheels have pin holes which allow air to escape and can cause an out of control condition at highway speeds. Air slowly leaks out of the tires while you are driving at highway speeds. The wheels have a casting of dot-t made in china by sr wheels.
Axle is bent and leaf springs are broken, since new. Every door as well as slides are off and don't close. When driving down the road it tows crooked and is a danger to the road.
While towing my rv at 50 mph i heard a loud bang. My tire pressure monitor sounded an alarm. I pull over to the side of the road and stop. I only traveled about 10 miles on this trip before getting the blow out.*dt*jb
On June 12, 2022 my husband and I were towing our 5th wheel on 99W in Salem/KeizerOregon about 4pm when a car on our left waved us down saying that we had a wobbly tire on the passenger side of the 5th wheel. We got off onto Cherry Lane and pulled over to inspect and could not readily determine the problem. We went to our final destination for the night Keizer Elks which was a mile down the road. It appeared the core of the rim had separated from the rest of the rim. We had Les Schwab a local tire service come over to our 5th wheel the next morning and the repair tech had never seen this before. Tire was replaced and put on a new rim. The original rim is not welded all the way around. Just spot welded. If this had broke when we were traveling at normal highway speed this would of been far more dangerous than a blowout. This needs be reported.
Two tire trailers blew up going down the interstate from a camping trip. First tire blew apart after leaving the camp site around 15 mins down the road. 2nd tire blew when we were standing still replacing the other tire. This is a single axle trailer with two tires. 205-75-r14 castle rock with 65psi and less than 2,000 miles. Tires were on trailer for just over 2 years.
Had castle rock tire st225/75r15, this past weekend 7/17/20, while driving on i40, the first 5 mile the first tire exploded, 38 mile further down the road another tire exploded. Then when parked at the home the spare tire exploded and it was just laying in the bed of my truck. I have removed and replaced all for of the tire from my rv. I didn't keep the other two tire as proof.*dt*jb

The electric fireplace in our RV caught on fire. A visible flame was seen behind the fireplace glass near the thermostat display on the right side of the fireplace. Visible smoke and burning smell observed from the upper right vents above the control panel buttons. The fireplace unit itself had an audible alarm, in addition to the RV smoke detectors that were triggered. We were inside the RV when this occurred, and once smoke and flame were observed, we immediately extinguished the fire by shutting off the master power breaker, and promptly removed the fireplace unit from the cabinet prior to any damage to the RV.
On the morning of August 1st, 2022 we were notified by a neighbor of some damage on our 2021 Artic Wolf 5th wheel. After inspection it appeared that a small fire had occurred earlier in the morning- unknown time and it apparently was contained to the one compartment without spreading. The previous evening the camper was fine. The fire was contained to a specific compartment which housed the water hook-up, cable hook-ups and the motion light. This was reported to our insurance who did an inspection and determined that most likely it was an electrical issue and started with the motion light. Upon discovery of the issue the trailer was unplugged and battery was disconnected. We had gone camping the weekend before the fire happened. Unable to be "recreated". The insurance adjuster inspected it on 8/10/22. No concerns or issues the weekend before. We have been having issues with the light randomly staying on/not turning on etc.
The contact owned a 2020 Forest River Cherokee. The contact stated that while inside the vehicle, while it was parked in the driveway, an abnormal chemical odor was emitting from the interior and exterior of the vehicle. In addition, afterward, a fuel-burning odor was emitted from the interior and exterior of the vehicle. The contact exited the vehicle and noticed black smoke emitting from the battery area. No warning lights were illuminated. The fire department was called and extinguished the fire. The fire department informed the contact that the fire may have started due to a failure of the solar connection. The front end of the vehicle was consumed by the fire. The insurance company was notified. However, no claim has been filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V654000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM).
Rv began smoking from the exterior of the hvac unit. Per video recording fire fell from the ceiling igniting the mattress. The entire rv filled with smoke within minutes, and the entire top of rv was fully engulfed in flames. It burnt the entire rv, home and cars beside. It was purchased brand new june 2018. Fire occurred july 1, 2019. Forest river was notified july 2019. We were fortunate not to be in the rv when the fire occurred.. Had we been we would have not survived. The heat index was 98 degrees that day. The rv had a front and rear ac. Smoke exited the front master bedroom ac first, prior to windows and doors. Please prevent this from happening to others, and save their lives.*dt*dt*jb*jb

Forest River Gray Wolf 2022, this is the third time that I have seen the same model Waaree solar controller fail on this model RV and start over charging customers batteries. This vehicle came in with its lead acid batteries over charged to 20.9 volts, identical to last time. Not sure if its widespread, but it seems to be problematic enough that I can see one fail three times in under a year.

The contact owns a 2021 Forest River Cherokee. The contact stated that he experienced several electrical failures with the trailer including a defective refrigerator. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that the wiring within the circuit breaker panel was not properly secured. Upon further investigation, the contact discovered that the propane wiring was crimped and not properly secured, which he stated could lead to a severe failure. The contact was able to repair the wiring failures himself. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that he would receive a call back. The contact had not received a response despite numerous attempts to reach the manufacturer by phone and email. The dealer was also notified of the failure and denied reimbursement to the contact for the repairs. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000. I bought a Forest River Gray Wolf 26DBHBL on April 4th 2022 from Camping World in Anthony, TX. Both of the back right brakes locked up on us 100 miles from home on only our second camping trip with the camper. When we took off and opened the brake drum, the brakes were broken apart. Springs were off and adjusting bolts were bent and stripped, among other parts that were broken off. There was almost no oil inside the drum cap. We checked the left side and the brakes were very loose. None of the brakes were ever adjusted. This could have caused a very bad accident at a high rate of speed as the brakes could have locked on us then. I bought a new camper thinking it was safe and worry free so that we could travel with my one year old. The camper is now back at the dealer we bought it from. There was no warning other than a loud noise coming from the brakes. The camper had to be towed without brakes to the dealer.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150 used for hauling a 2021 Forest River Cherokee Wolf Pup travel trailer. The contact stated that while driving at 5 mph, the trailer disconnected warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over and inspected underneath the travel trailer and found that the brake line was fractured and had detached. The contact reattached the brake line with electrical tape however, the failure recurred. The contact noticed upon inspection that there were two brake lines that had fractured and were detached. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that it would be several months before the RV could be diagnose or repaired. The contact left a voicemail to notify the manufacturer of the failure and was awaiting a callback. The failure mileage was 7,000.
While taking our first trip to the coast of nc from raleigh, i was driving down the road, and got a message on my dash saying to check trailer connections. We pulled over and checked, and the connector was seated, and everything seem to be working. When we got to the campground, i happened to be looking under the camper, and found the wires that feed the electric brakes were cut. They were pinched between the u-bolts on the axle and the frame. I had a mobile rv tech repair it so i could safely drive it home. If it happened on a trip to the mountains, it could have been a real problem. I found from forums and on facebook, we are not the only ones having the problem, and one person found his wires in the same place to have the same outcome (he said " mine was on the chopping block also) and he was going to fix the problem.
I purchased a forest river wolf pup travel trailer july 2019. It was documented to have a 30 gal fresh water tank. After purchase i find out it has 20 gal fresh tank. The trailer weight label fixed to trailer states weight includes weight of 30 gal fresh water capacity. Based on the incorrect weight listed, i do not know actual weight of trailer making accurate loading impossible. This is a big safety issue. Contacted manufacture and they admit change in tank size but did not notify purchaser at time of sale. They state change made mid 2019. So, every wolf pup trailer sold after mid 2019 may have inaccurate weight labels. To me, it looks like they label trailer without in fact weighing as stated? I have towed trailer several times however i now don't feel safe towing until i find out actual weight. They should be responsible to weigh each trailer and update weight placard at their expense!*dt*jb*dt*as*dt*jb*dt*jb
Power Train 3 Read
I purchased a 2021 Cherokee Grey Wolf travel trailer in May of 2021. After pulling only twice I noticed that the unit side trekked when in tow towards the passenger side shifting the rear of the trailer approximately 6-8 inches toward the passenger side compared to the trailer's front body lines. I scheduled service for the unit at my locale Forest River Repair Shop where they identified that the 1 of the 2 axles were bent. This defect caused this unit to sway very dramatically at times when traveling down the road. It also increased the blind spot on the passenger side and increased tire wear due to the fact that the wheels were not in line with one another which could have resulted in premature tire failure if not noticed.
2009 forest river wolf pack. Consumer writes in regards to axle capacity safety recall. *ld *js
The front and rear axle on the left side are faulty causing the tire to lean in at the top and out at the bottom, this also causes tire wear, the dealership is aware of the problem.*akthe consumer believes the vehicle was delivered from the factory with this problem, the consumer now believes that the frame is bent since changing the axles did not correct the problem*nlm
