How to read a Triumph Speed Twin VIN — every digit explained
Every Triumph Speed Twin carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. Tells you it's a Triumph and the country it was built in (real Triumph codes below).
- VDS (4–8) — model, body style, engine, trim & restraints. The 8th digit is the engine code.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built (e.g. R = 2024, S = 2025).
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Speed Twin.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
- UKSAT · SMT
- Brazil97N
Digits 4–17 — the engine code (8th), model-year letter (10th) and plant — follow the universal SAE standard, identical on every car. For the full year-code table (2001–2026), country codes and where the VIN is stamped on your Speed Twin, see the complete guide to reading a VIN.

Service Brakes 2 Read
The front brakes lost compression so much that the breaks wouldn't engage until the lever was pulled all the way back to the grip. Took to the shop they said there was air in the line. Front brakes were flushed and fresh brake fluid was added. Brakes felt fine once I got it out of the shop but then lost compression again a few weeks later.
2019 triumph speed twin with brembo front brakes. Front brake lever feels mushy on first pull, it's soft enough to pull all the way back to the bar. If released and pulled again immediately, the lever feels normal/much firmer. This "double pull" issue recurs whenever the brakes are not used for more than a minute or so. Issue occurs both when the bike is stationary and in motion. Issue has been occurring since the bike was new. Brakes were bled twice by the selling dealer, but the issue persists.
Wheels 1 Read
Rear wheel not centered from manufacturer. Center hub area that the rear axle is located is not true round and causes a vibration at highway speeds. This is apparently a on going issue I've had the same problem on a 2021Triumph Tiger 900 GT that wheel was replaced under warranty. Now my 2024 Triumph Bonneville Speed Twin has the same issue being out of round. Triumph claim's the wheel is on backorder because the ones in the Georgia warehouse has the same issue. Why are they continue to sale bikes with bad wheels that can cause uneven tire wear that can cause over heating tire and premature tire failure and lost control of vehicle.
