How to read a Buick Rainier VIN — every digit explained
Every Buick Rainier carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. Tells you it's a Buick and the country it was built in.
- VDS (4–8) — model, body style, engine, trim & restraints. The 8th digit is the engine code.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built (e.g. R = 2024, S = 2025).
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Rainier.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Digits 4–17 — the engine code (8th), model-year letter (10th) and plant — follow the universal SAE standard, identical on every car. For the full year-code table (2001–2026), country codes and where the VIN is stamped on your Rainier, see the complete guide to reading a VIN.

What's wrong. General Motors (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 SAAB 9-7x; 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL; and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier and Isuzu Ascender vehicles. Fluid may enter the driver's door module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. The short may also cause overheating, which could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke, or a fire.
Risk. A short in the circuit board could lead to a fire, increasing the risk of personal injury. A fire could occur even while the vehicle is not in use. As a precaution, owners are advised to park outside until the remedy has been made.
Fix. Owners will be contacted and dealers will test the driver's door module. If the module is functioning properly, a protective coating will be applied. If the module is not functioning properly, it will be replaced. These repairs will be done free of charge. GM will notify Buick, Chevrolet, and GMC owners, Isuzu and Saab will contact their respective owners. The recall began on August 2, 2013. Buick owners may contact the owner center at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet owners at 1-866-694-6546, GMC owners at 1-866-996-9463, Isuzu owners at 1-800-255-6727, and Saab owners at 1-800-955-9007. Visibility:power Window Devices And Controls
What's wrong. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer and GMC Envoy vehicles, and 2006 GMC Envoy XL and Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT vehicles. Fluid may enter into the driver's door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board, causing window switches to become inoperative. Previously, the affected vehicles may have had their master power window switch module treated with a protective coating, instead of having it replaced.
Risk. The protective coating may not eliminate the risk that the circuit board could short and result in a fire, even while the vehicle is unattended.
Fix. GM will notify owners, and dealers will install a new driver's door switch module, free of charge. The recall began on November 2, 2015. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15700.

What's wrong. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2006-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT, GMC Envoy XL, 2006-2008 Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7x vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the headlamp driver module (HDM) may overheat and fail, causing the headlamps and daytime running lights to not illuminate.
Risk. Headlamps that do not illuminate reduce the driver's ability to see the roadway and reduce the vehicle's visibility to oncoming vehicles, both of which increase the risk of a vehicle crash.
Fix. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the HDM, free of charge. The recall began on May 17, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14291.
2006 Buick Rainier recalls 7
Steering:hydraulic Power Assist:hose, Piping, And Connections
What's wrong. Certain passenger vehicles may have been built with a power steering hose that is not to specification. Under extreme steering maneuvers, such as turning the steering wheel fully to the left or right while braking, the hose may fracture and leak fluid.
Risk. If this were to occur, power steering assist would be lost and increased steering effort would be required. On vehicles equipped with hydro-boost power brakes, it could also result in loss of power brake assist and increased braking effort would be required. If the power steering fluid spray were to spray onto hot engine parts, an engine compartment fire could occur.
Fix. Dealers will inspect the power steering hose(s) for two suspect date codes and replace them if required. The recall will begin on october 14, 2005. Owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, gmc at 1-866-996-9463, buick at 1-866-608-8080, cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, isuzu at 1-800-255-6727, or hummer at 1-800-732-5493.
Equipment:other:labels
What's wrong. Certain trucks and sport utility vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 110, "tire selection and rims." these vehicles were shipped with tire and loading information labels listing an inacccurate vehicle capacity weight.
Risk. A misprinted label could lead to improper vehicle loading specifications or tire inflation which could result in a tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix. Owners will be provided with corrected labels and installation instructions. At the customer's option, a dealer can install the label for them. The recall began on march 31, 2006. Owners may contact buick at 1-866-608-8080, cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, gmc at 1-866-996-9463, hummer at 1-800-732-5493, pontiac at 1-800-620-7668, saturn at 1-800-972-8876, or isuzu at 1-800-255-6727.

Visibility:windshield
What's wrong. Certain sport utility vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 212, 'windshield mounting.' the windshield urethane bead may not have adhered to the body in certain areas during the cure process.
Risk. If a crash occurs, the windshield may not be retained, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Fix. Dealers will replace the windshield free of charge. The recall began on march 10, 2005. Owners may contact buick at 1-866-608-8080, chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, or gmc at 1-866-996-9463.

Exterior Lighting:brake Lights
What's wrong. On certain sport utility vehicles, vibration and heat may cause the tail lamp/stop lamp bulb to loosen in its socket. If this occurs, the bulb may flicker and eventually become inoperative.
Risk. An inoperative brake lamp will not convey the driver's intention of stopping to drivers in following vehicles, and an inoperative rear turn signal lamp will not convey the driver's intention to turn to drivers in following vehicles. Both of these failures can increase the risk of a crash.
Fix. Dealers will inspect the tail lamp/stop lamp assemblies, and if necessary, replace them. The recall began on november 22, 2004. Owners should contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, oldsmobile at 1-800-630-6537, buick at 1-866-608-8080, or gmc at 1-866-996-9463.
Exterior Lighting:turn Signal
What's wrong. On certain trucks and sport utility vehicles, the driver wishing to signal a turn by moving the directional signal lever, (up or down) may cause the front marker/turn lights and rear turn lights to flash in a manner similar to hazard warning, rather than flashing on the desired side only.
Risk. The driver may not be able to clearly signal their intentions to turn, change travel lanes, or potentially warn others of an impaired vehicle operating condition increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix. Dealers will replace the suspect flasher modules with a new flasher module designed with sealed relays and more durable contact material inside of the relays free of charge. The recall began on august 4, 2005. Isuzu began mailing owner letters on august 4, 2005. Owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, gmc at 1-866-996-9463, isuzu at 1-800-255-6727, buick at 1-866-608-8080, and oldsmobile at 1-800-630-6537.

A person ran two stop signs and entered vehicle path. The two vehicles hit head on and this vehicle made impact at 40 mph after it decelerated from 43 mph. The two vehicle hit head on with near perfect even impact, based upon third party visual description of the front end of the vehicles damage. The vehicle decelerated at a max sdm recorded velocity change rate of -14.07 (mph) and a algorithm enabled to maximum sdm recorded velocity change of 127.5 msec. Driver of the vehicle hit the steering wheel with head knocking the person out. Airbags did not deploy. Onstar was not notified that there was an accident. Computer shows the seatbelt was worn by driver. When the onstar was manually activated by the driver when he came too, the gps showed the vehicle further north up the road causing incorrect police division being called. Vehicle was going up hill when the accident occurred. Other vehicle was going downhill. The other vehicle was a subaru. Vehicle computer data was retrieved by a bosch crash data retrieval tool using version 8.0 software. I have a copy of this data. Gm reports that the computer was correct not to deploy airbags and not call for help using onstar. The vehicle had a software modification due to a fault with the fan speed calibration setting off a warning light. We had complained that things were never correct after this modification of the software and took the vehicle to two different dealerships complaining that computers were doing strange things after this firmware modification. I have various types of problems with my 2005 buick rainier. I have owned it for about 6 years now and it currently has a little over 93,000 miles on it. I am reported the problems to you so that you can document the problems to your list and i am also hoping that you can let me know if there is a recall for these issues? 1. Awd is not working. When there was snow on the ground. It caused me to ditch my car when i was turning a corner at a very low speed. There was a car coming towards me, but missed my car. Thank goodness it did not injure someone, myself or my car. The rear also slides when it is wet/raining outside. I'm scared to drive it when it is wet outside...especially when there is snow on the ground. 2. My drivers side door caught on fire. I just seen that my door could have been covered by a recall, but i didn't know that then. I paid for another door and installation. 3. When i am turning my steering wheel to back-up. There is a grinding noise. 4. My speedometer does not work. I drive with other cars when i can, but i also drive several country roads. I have received 2 speeding tickets due to this. 5. My gas gauge does not work. I keep track of my gas by my current mileage and per gallons of gas, but i have still ran out of gas at least 8 times and...nearly got hit in the rear several times. 6. I believe there is a windshield recall. Is it still active? I do know that all of my car problems are very common with buick rainier's and i am hoping that there is active recalls on all of these serious issues and that buick/gm will gladly repair them. These are all safety issues that could result in fatal injuries. Thank you for your help, research and response. The heated seat got hot and was unable to turn off. The leather seat burnt through from the heating unit or wire to the heating element. The dealership said it is not their problem so it is not fixed. There is no longer power to the seat. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 buick rainier. The contact stated while traveling 30 mph , burning fumes started to emit from the front driver door. The contact mentioned that the electronics in the door panel were not functioning properly. The vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's destination. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 52,000.
Just purchased car 3 weeks ago, it caught on fire at 3 am after being parked for 6 hours.fire department says it started at the driver side headlight wiring or switch area. Completely destroyed my engine before fire department arrived.
Tl* the contact owned a 2006 buick rainier. While driving approximately 55 mph, there were smoke and flames underneath the dashboard. The driver exited the vehicle quickly before it was engulfed in flames. The vehicle was destroyed. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. The failure mileage was 96,482.
The air conditioning and heating controls had not been working and /or working erratically. We took the vehicle to the local dealership for repair. They claimed that they couldn't find any problem. We also asked them to fix the recall item, door switch, and were told there was no recall on our vehicle eventhough we had received notice from gm by mail. On march 14, 2015 i was driving on the interstate when the air conditioner suddenly started working full force. Within 10 minutes i smelled an electric fire and white smoke started coming into the cab from above and below the dash. I immediately pulled off the road and tried to open the hood. As the smoke increased i went to the passenger side to remove belongings from the glove compartment. Black smoke was coming from the dash and burning embers falling into the cab. By the time the fire department arrive, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. My family and i were not hurt, but are now without a vehicle and still owe the finance company since we had only purchased the vehicle 9 months ago. Subsequent research revealed the headlights we had replaced twice also had electrical issues, and the suspension noise from the rear of the vehicle had multiple complaints. *tr
Vehicle idling in driveway while i went inside to retrieve cell phone. Came out and smoke in vehicle and electrical fire smell. Pull exterior of power window panel up and saw switch burned and melted on one corner. *tr
Passenger door panel caught on fire when the care wasn't used for over 15 hours. The window and door locks weren't working on that side and the window was up prior to the fire. The fire caused the window to drop down and a passing tow truck thankfully saw the flames.
Drivers side door electrical fire - very similar to recall 15700 -fluid entered into the driver's door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board, causing window switches, locks, etc to become inoperative. Also resulted in an electrical fire. Vehicle was unattended in a parking lot and window was open just an inch. Upon return to car window was up and door would not open with remote. Opened vehicle with key and noted horrible smell of electrical fire and all drivers side door electrical features were inoperative

Later, it came back up but level doesn't reflect what it should be. I have resorted to resetting my trip odometer and filling up when it nears 300 miles so i know i won't be stranded without fuel. This has occurred on numerous occasions in the last two months. *js
Fuel gauge acts erratic. Shows 3/4 full, then slowly drops to empty with low fuel alarm sounding. I know there is fuel in the vehicle. Fuel sensing unit is malfunction. *tr

Fuel gauge will drop to empty and the low fuel light will come on, the driver information center will sound an audible alert and will show low fuel indicator. When you have a full tank of gas it will show a full tank and stay there until you use about 1/8th of a tank and then the fuel gauge start malfunctioning. Some times the fuel gauge will show full and some times it will show empty and all the bells and whistles will activate. I took it to the dealer where i bought the vehicle and they told me gm was aware of the problem and that gm would pay 1/2 of the repair costs which are about $145.00 and the vehicle owner would pay the other 1/2 of the costs. It would take about 2 hours to repair. This is a known problem by gm. *tr
When fuel tank is filled to full, fuel gauge reads empty and low fuel warning appears on driver information center. Fuel gauge starts to indicate fuel level when fuel tank is about 1/2 full. Fuel level indication is very inaccurate when fuel level approaches 1/8 tank. Very easy to run out of gas. *tr
Fuel gauge reading inaccurate. With a full tank when starting and fuel level gauge slowing showing empty knowing i have just filled the tank. The level fluctuates up and down creating frustration and anxiety. My wife is now afraid to drive the vehicle. This has brought much apprehension while driving thinking there is a leak in the system. *tr
My wife was stranded with no gas even though the gas gauge said 1/2 full - took to dealer and they said sender unit was bad, they said it was all too common on this vehicle. *tr
The vehicle fuel gauge is erratic and inaccurate! When the tank is filled it shows empty and displays a low fuel level warning. As the tank draws fuel it fluctuates between full and empty. At one point it would stabilize at a certain level but nowadays it either shows full or empty. I track mileage and fuel use but would not trust the vehicle for safety concerns with other family members since there is no sure fire way to know if/when the vehicle will run out of fuel! I only let them use it when i know it is full and they are only making short local trips.

I had involved car accident which from they called throttlebody due to (tps...shift by wire) you can find in ask.com encyclopedia *(see bottom) that i experienced which i had. It was running in reverse and hit steel post that protect gas meter while i tried brake but engine and tranny was in full idle and i tried change to into drive while it still in full idle and my brake cant stop until i hit emergency brake and turn engine off by key switch. I did some research and found i'm not alone and my insurance (national general which used be gmac) pushed my car into totaled that they used by nevada law and body shop trying to send this car to dealer for testing but never happen cuz of totaled processing. Which leave me puzzled and found out that my car sold to body shop and repaired and sold other people. My worry is if they not testing throttle and other people who bought this car may face risk which i had. *disadvantages the cost of dbw systems is often greater than conventional systems.that fall under the category of safety critical systemswhich are recommended to be developed under standards like iso 26262 which require extensive changes in the development process generally taken for developing other traditional systems.. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 buick rainier. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the air conditioner failed to operate. Additionally, the transmission emitted a loud whining noise. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the blower motor resister was replaced. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.
I would like to start by saying i love my 2006 buick rainier and do not want this experience to break my commitment to gm products. My problems began when my rainier started having problems turning at low speeds and backing up. My 2006 rainier only has a little over 56,000 miles, so as you can see my suv has very little wear and has had all the regular schedule maintenances. I did experience the bumping noise periodically which i understand now is a precursor to the transfer case going out. I have written to gm about the problem with the transfer case to see if there was any way they could provide assistance with this problem as it has caused a financial hardship with the replacement of the transfer case costing a little over $2400. Gm responded that there wasn't anything they could do about the matter. The service dealer has been very gracious with me and working with me to arrange payments each month, however, as with any business they are a business and must continue on. I have seen on the edmonds car blog that there are almost 300 entries of this very same problem with the transfer case going out in this particular vehicle. I am pleading with you to investigate this issue as it isn't only about the financial hardship it has caused me but mainly the safety issue it could have caused when i couldn't turn or back up appropriately which i could not when the transfer case went out. I purchased my rainier originally because i had a trailblazer ltz and saw how the rainier was a better kind of version or more luxury version of the trailblazer ltz. I am beginning to wish i had kept my trailblazer of almost 200k miles to my rainier of only 56k miles. Your assistance in this matter is greatly anticipated and appreciated.
There are two kinds of problems i brought to the attention of the service department several times since purchasing the vehicle but mechanics still cannot find what is causing the problems. First, my vehicle stutters when i back up and turn slowly or turn forward slowly. It does not do it every time, just occasionally so the mechanics do not experience it. Second, when stopped at a red light for a few seconds, my car feels like it has been hit in the back but when i look back to see if i've been bumped, there is no vehicle behind me. It feels like the powertrain or engine wants to jerk forward. I've taken it to the dealership twice and they say they have fixed the problem, but it continues. *tr
We have had numerous electrical and mechanical problems. The fan motor control module when out, then the module that controls the fuel indicator and display went bad. Now less than 6 months later the transmission has gone bad. It is only working in 2 & 3. No overdrive or first. This last problem suddenly started on 7/17/11. Our mechanic came and checked it out (he did not want us to drive it) and said the transmission was only working in second and third and we should not drive it and needs to be replaced or repaired. We are still paying for this car and for the last repairs on this car. I have seen several complaints and service bulletins on this problem and the problem with the gas gauge. Has there been any recalls or acknowledgement of these problems by gm? *kb
Possible fire hazard and accident due to oil cooler line corroding out. Normal driving. Repair and replacement of oil lines. This was only by shear luck that this was not a serious accident or fire with injuries or death. *tr
Car felt like someone bumped the back end of it while at a stopped position or that it is shifting down while you are at a stopped position..you can also feel it on the floor at times as it happens when it feels like it..dealer did a check with the diagnostic machine and nothing was in the computer...this was the second time i took car into dealer...first time they said it was probably the compessor kicking on....this time they said that this car has a transmission that downshifs like that and makes it feel like there is a problem but unless it gets worst not to worry...but if it does get worse to ring it back in. *cn

I was driving on the hwy on the way home from work when the rear of the vehicle started to bounce. Window motors and window controls failing. I replaced two window motors at in 2017, at dealer because they failed, then the rear passenger window motor failed in 2020 and was replaced at mechanic shop with factory replacement, this rear passenger window is seldom used, but rear passenger window motor failed again in 2023 and was replaced again at mechanic shop. Drivers window motor now needs to be replaced. Window controls are intermittant. The components were replaced by dealer and by third-party mechanic. There is no warning prior to failure other than rolling down a window and not being able to get it back up at all, which poses a hazard in torrential rain and damages vehicle; or not being able to roll a window down when needed. The first replacement was under warranty. The rest have been out of pocket and have caused other damage due to rain. I feel the entire window operating system should have been recalled, driver side controls and all of the operting motors. This is a dangerous and expensive continuing problem. Never had this problem with any GM vehicle before the 2007 Rainer. Rear air suspension went out in 2018 and rear end fell down causing severe handling difficulty. Had to replace rear air suspension with conventional shocks because parts were not available in a timely manner and vehicle could not be driven safely without rear suspension. Had similar issue with air suspension on 2004 Buick SUV, where the air suspension went haywire and caused handling issues. (Vehicle was returned to dealer and exchanged for one with a conventional suspension.) Was told by dealer the air suspension problem was fixed on later models after 2004, but apparently not. Would not have purchased a vehicle with air suspension had I known it still had these issues.
Both trailing arms in the rear suspension have failed to due to rust. The failure of at least one of the two trailing arms occurred when traveling across a bump in the road at low speed while on a long distance trip. The 2007 buick rainier had a history of being in pennsylvania. The use of salt during the winter months was the likely cause of the failures. The failing of the trailing arms resulted in considerable vibrations at low speeds up to ~40 mph. The failing of the trailing arms could have resulted in the lost of replacement springs if a significant bump had been hit while driving. Note: replacement springs are often necessary after the failure of the air bag springs, as was the case for this vehicle. Fortunitly, the vehicle was repaired before any accident occurred.
Around january 2016, the rear end was basically sitting almost on the rear tires--the air bags would not pump the rear end up. After a couple of days, it was fine. Then around march 2016, same thing happened. In june 2016, same thing happened but only down for about a day. The fourth time this happened was the other day, august 18, 2016--today is august 21, 2106 but they have not corrected. I have read over 100 threads of people having this issue and cannot understand why this problem has not been recalled--it seems to affect the rainier and envoy and trailblazers, among the ones i've read. Why shouldn't gm have to fix this issue? I understand there is a conversion you can do, but that will cost about $400+ to do that--right now we don't know if it's the bags or the pump, but the pump seems to work, just nothing happens. We noticed this when the vehicle was stationary, but it stayed the same in motion--very dangerous--the top of the body started scraping the wheel today while driving and it really has scared me.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 buick rainier. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the wheels suddenly locked with the 'stability control" warning light illuminated. The failure would recur multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where they stated that a switch of some type that was under the driver's seat had become damaged. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for diagnosis where they stated that the sensor on the front axles caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the approximate failure mileage was 127,000.
We bought a buick rainier 2006 and it has had nothing but electrical, door problems and door handle problems. It has a faulty back window wiper. Suspension issues and a voting under body carriage. I bought it from a dealer and none of these recall issues where taken care of, and these recalls date back to 2015 i bought the rainer in march 2018. *tr
Rear of car drops to just above tires when car sits for a few hours. Air suspension pumps it back up after car is started. Air suspension is leaking....unsafe to drive.car has 94000 miles
My rainer started to loose air in the rear suspension, air ride system. At this time the compressor works and does fill the air ride suspension but you can't be in a hurry to go anywhere. You must let the car sit while running for several minutes before you can leave. If you don't, you bounce down the road and that could be a danger to you or someone else on the road, i have spoken to my local dealer about the issue and they would be more than happy to charge me thousands of dollars to fix the issue. I think this is something that gm should take care of under a safety recall since it seems to be a design flaw. My car only has 70,500 miles on it. *tr
While the vehicle was parked in our driveway the air suspension failed causing the rear of vehicle to drop to and unsafe level. Upon starting the vehicle the compressor refilled the suspension bags but when parked and not driven for any period of time the air bags leak down causing the rear suspension to drop down again. This has been happening for several months now and i understand that this is not and uncommon problem with this make and model vehicle. The vehicle now has only 50,000 actual miles and has never been used for towing. *tr

Tl* the contact owned a 2004 buick rainier. While driving approximately 30 mph in the rain, the vehicle hydroplaned. The contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a wall. As a result, the contact was rendered unconscious and transported to the hospital via ambulance. The contact's head struck the driver's side window and the contact remained in a coma for several months. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained injuries to the right side of the head, which caused walking complications and a loss of feeling in the right side of the body. In addition, the contact suffered a loss of sight in the right eye due to a crushed skull. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot and deemed destroyed. A dealer was not made aware of the air bag failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Car is 2004 buick rainier with awd. Less than 2000 miles at time of incident. Temp 0 f, 4" fresh snow. Returning home at 5:00 p.m., turned into 100' long driveway and proceeded toward garage. Because of snow in driveway, had to accelerate to reach front of garage when normally i just coast because it is a slightly downhill approach. Car would not stop by pushing brakes and hit garage door. Car seemed to be accelerating as it pushed garage door into snow blower and snow blower into stored vehicle inside garage causing damage to both. Speed was less than 5 miles per hour. Air bags did not deploy. Incident reported to insurance company next morning and insurance company set up an appointment with dealer. Dealer provided estimate for repairs but did not investigate for mechanical failure. Returned vehicle to investigate after christmas but nothing found to have caused incident. *jb

Power steering leaks, the gas gauge and other gauges don't work, most the electrical don't work inside the car, makes a weird noise when it backs up and the engine revs when it's starts and sometimes when it drives and goes faster even when you are not hitting the gas, the gas tank blows out gas when we are pumping gas like it's full but it's not, the window cracked from a little peddle and the wheels and hubs go bad really fast.
My 2005 buick rainer speed meter stop working also my fuel gage, oil gage, rpm gage and temp gages all have stop working correctly.
My speedometer does not work correctly. Some times it seems to read right, but lots of times it will say i am doing 120 when i am doing 30 mph or it will show i am doing 0 when i am actually doing 70 mph on the interstate. I cannot rely on my speedometer to be accurate. I can be driving, it appears to be working but then it starts to slowly go down until it is back at zero and all the while i am in drive and moving. Also, my oil gage has stopped working. It moves when i start my car and shut it off, but it is never correct either. It is either at zero or on the complete opposite side. Sometimes my car stalls when i am sitting at a light or driving slowly. My dash will say, oil pressure low, stop engine and die on me. I keep my oil changed regularly and keep the levels checked. It does not leak, it always measures fine when i check it. So something is wrong with the oil gage and it is continuously telling my computer the oil pressure is low causing my car to die on me while driving or in traffic. These are both very serious driving hazards. I could go to pull out left and turn, my car could die on me, and i could get hit from oncoming traffic. This has not happened, but it is a possible scenario due to my car stalling out of the blue because of the oil gage/sensor not working right. I have also noticed some of my lights in my dash area half work and on my doors. Other than this, i have had great luck with my vehicle. I bought it new and really have not had any problems but with this. I also had the fuel gage go out, but there was a recall on it, and i had it replaced. I cannot give you a specific date, because this happens almost on a daily basis, so i will give you an approximate date as to when i think it started around.
While driving my speedometer will read 120mph when in fact i'm only doing 65mph. It'll stay stuck at 60 and 120mph when the truck is turned off. I have to turn the engine off and on to reset it back to 0. One day it works fine, next day it's reading incorrectly. My oil gauge just stopped working all together. My headlights also flicker while i'm driving.
My speedometer is not showing the accurate speed. The needle shoots to 100-120mph, when i am only doing 65 mph. When i turn the truck off it will sit at 60mph or stay on 120mph. I have to turn the truck off and on to reset the speedometer. The oil gauge just stopped working. Also my headlights flicker while i am driving. The problem with the speedometer has been an ongoing issue.
While driving at around 50 mph the speedometer went down to zero. After stopping and starting again it went to 120 and stayed there. Starting the car now it stays at 120 mph and does not return to zero. This is very scary and dangerous. I have found out that this happened to several gm cars. We also found out that it will cost $500.00 to $600.00 dollars to repair. I think someone needs to check this out as a recall. This is an item that should work 100% of the time all the time and a failure for something like this is just not right. Please advise what can be done.
Air Bags 20 Read
I was stopped at an intersection waiting for the traffic light to change. One vehicle was in front of me. I was impacted from the rear by a third vehicle traveling at a rate of speed i would estimate at somewhere between 20 and 40 mph. The force of the impact threw my car into the car in front of me. In addition to the significant rearend damage sustained, the impact destroyed the front end of my suv, including bumper, radiator, hood and damage to both front quarter panels. And yet the airbag did not deploy. I'm recovering from back and neck strains and pains from the whiplash effect of the accident. However, i am sure that i would have experienced and endured less trama had the airbag deployed. The 2004 buick ranier suv has been towed from the scene. Today or monday, the insurance adjustor will determine if the vehicle is repairable. Below, i have referenced all component choices related to the airbag becuase it did not deploy. No determination has been made to determine the specific part responsible for the non-deployment of the airbag.
Driving on freeway, engaged in normal breaking and wheels locked up and brakes no longer worked. I did not have the ability to brake or steer the suv. I ultimately hit the center divider nearly head on, mostly middle to passenger side front of car. The air bags did not deploy. Had gm mechanic look at the brakes after the accident to attempt to determine what went wrong with brakes. They stated that the brake module needed to be replaced and that it can cause the "computers to not communicate correctly."' the bad brake module also meant abs brakes would not work. *tr
While traveling at a speed of approx 50-55 on a interstate, i was reared ended by a auto, my auto was struck then shoveled into a cement wall block and then bounced into on coming traffic to the other cement wall block on the opposite site while trying to stop, i was wearing a seat belt, the vehicle's air bags didn't go off at all in the vehicle. A head injury occurred, neck and shoulder injuries occurred. The auto was a total loss! *tr
2005 buick rainier was in a head on collision with a chrysler town & country van in coming traffic. My wife driving the rainier hit her head on the steering wheel and bent it. She receive a large laceration requiring about 30 stitches, clavicle strain, broken collar bone and multiple bruises. She was wearing the seat belt. Collision was strong enough to lift the rear of the car off the ground and turn it facing the same direction as the van she hit. The airbags did not deploy!
While crossing an intersection i was hit in the front right quarter of the vehicle. I was hit by a person running a red light. He was doing 40 to 50 mph in a light truck and knocked my suv sideways about 15 feet. There is more than $8,000 damage to the vehicle but the side air bags did not deploy. I suffered a concussion and soft tissue injuries. Gm told me i had to get hit in a certain way for the air bags to deploy. They don't tell you that when selling the car. Can you tell me if the bags should have deployed? *nm
One sunday morning. Turned car off and heard a humming sound coming from under the hood on the driver side. Friend at church thought it sounded like the abs module running. Removed the fuse, cutting off abs module. Was advised by friend to replace fuse when we went to leave church but to take out when we got home or the battery might go dead. He said get it to a dealership asap. I took the rainier to john newsome superstore in hartsville, south carolina. I spoke to shop foreman and he agreed it was the abs module. Cost to replace was $1200 and being unemployed and my wife only one working. A mechanic said it was still ok to drive without anti locking brakes. He was ase certified and told me to stay my distance from other cars in the rain and not to drive on the snow. Nothing about slamming on the brakes. That's just what happen, on october 25/ 2011 i top a hill around 9pm at night running the speed limit. The hill is pointed and as you top the hill you can not see what is in front of you until you start down the hill. Once the rainier started down the hill, in the middle of the road stood a large deer. I had to make a split decision and that decision was to hold the steering wheel straight at the deer and apply the brakes. When i had applied the brakes the rear end of the rainier started to go around on the drivers side. I never turned the steering wheel, but as the rear of the car started going around the driver side it force the car to go forward into an embankment, air bag did not deploy. The car flip over and slide upside down, down the road. When the rainier came to a stop, i unbuckled my seatbelt and feel to what was the roof. Could not open any doors or get any windows down but yet the radio was still playing and the motor was off. I climbed out the passenger side rear window, which broke during the accident. *tr
Tl* the contact owned a 2005 buick ranier. The contact stated that the anti lock brake light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the brakes would perform fine even though the anti lock brake module failed. The contact also stated that the vehicle was later involved in a crash when he lost control of the vehicle attempting to avoid a deer. The air bags did not deploy as the vehicle crashed into a ditch. The failure and current mileages were 120,000.
