  • Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
  • Model year (10) — the year it was built (e.g. R = 2024, S = 2025).
  • Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Leprechaun.
  • Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.

Engine And Engine Cooling04V515000

What's wrong. On motor homes built on ford e-series chassis, the air filter element material process resulted in an air filter paper element that can smolder or burn. This change in filter paper composition combined with the configuration of the air induction system, may allow hot carbon particles to contact the air filter element during certain driving conditions that create hot particles.

Risk. These hot particles may ignite the air filter element with the potential for air induction system damage or underhood fire.

Fix. Ford is conducting the owner notification and remedy for this campaign. Dealers will inspect and replace the air filter element. Owners should contact ford at 1-800-392-3673 or coachmen at 219-825-5821.

Electrical System:alternator/generator/regulator03V081000

What's wrong. On certain class c mini-motor homes, the generator exhaust pipe may have been assembled and installed incorrectly resulting in insufficient clearance to or contact with the chassis fuel fill tube.

Risk. When operating, the generator's exhaust pipe may reach temperatures that could potentially melt and/or ignite the fuel fill tube. Should this occur, the potential exists for a fire.

Fix. Dealers will disassemble a portion of the generator exhaust pipe assembly, turning one of the bent components around 180 degrees, reassembling the exhaust pipe and measuring to ensure a minimum of 3" air gap with surrounding components. Owner notification began march 24, 2003. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact coachmen at 1-800-453-6064.

Equipment:recreational Vehicle/trailer03V373000

What's wrong. On certain motor homes, travel trailers, and fifth wheel trailers equipped with samsung microwave ovens, these units were produced with a defective panel. An electrical short can occur between circuit patterns on the membrane panel, especially overlapped by a "jumper" or jump wire. This may cause the oven to activate without pressing any key pads.

Risk. An electrical short can occur causing the oven to activate without pressing any key pads. This could result in excessive heat, smoke, or possibly a fire.

Fix. Samsung will notify customers and repair the panel free of charge. In the meantime, consumers should unplug their microwave, if possible. If the consumer is unable to unplug the microwave, they should leave the door ajar until the panel is replaced. Consumers should never use the microwave oven for storage or leave any towels, paper, cloth or other products in the microwave after use. Tires 55% 12 Read
2003 Leprechaun

11/24/12 purchased 2 bf goodrich lt225/75r16/beil jd11 2512 50k mile/6yr warranty. 02/29/16 3700 miles from purchase on i-20 in atlanta noticed a vibration road side inspection found one tire had tread separation/bubbled. 3/1 took tire to an authorized dealer who inspected the tire, deemed it defective, bfg paid $135.00 for a $163.00 new tire. 04/12/16 300 miles later on i-75 s ocala, fl. Experienced a very loud crashing/hitting noise followed by a strong vibration, extreme movement in the rear causing the rv/tow vehicle to violently swerve back/forth between lanes almost losing control in a construction zone, the 2nd tire tread completely came off, causing extensive damage to the rv undercarriage & severely damaging the tow vehicle scattering debris on the highway. The separated tread broke the valve stem on the inner tire (dual rear wheel) unknown to me the rv was driven on the failed steel belts to get to safety. The failed tire caused $16,908.20 in damages to both vehicles. Took failed tire to an authorized dealer, store manager could warranty the tire since it was defective but if i was seeking compensation for vehicle damage, would have to contact bfg directly new tire cost $197.93. Contacted bfg, followed their procedures. 05/25 they refused my claim, claiming under inflation/overload as the rational for denial. Called mr. Ritch townsend, bfg manager, on several occasions explaining the situation that the failure was not from as indicated advised him of the first tire failure that was covered said he would personally inspect this current tire failure & would call me back if they refused the claim & stating to send the refused tire back, 06/27 received the damaged tire back, ritch never called. Cant understand why two tires fail for the same reason within a short period of time/mileage of each other, one is covered no questions but the second, only when additional vehicle damage is claimed denied, seems clear bfgoodrich is covering up a greater tire defect.

2000 Leprechaun

Driving down i75 north of tampa in coachman motorhome , it started shaking then shaking got worse and worse, i slowed to 15 mpg and eased to shoulder stopped vehicle and looked at back tires , and found the tread had separated from the tire on the drivers inside dual tire. I checked back and there was nothing in the road and no visible puncture damage to tire. It just blew apart. When the tread separated it caused major damage to the underside of the coach. The box for the sewer connections was badly damaged and the filler tube for the fuel tank was hit and pulled in destroying the gas cap and adjacent area . Other pieces hit various parts of the rear bending and distorting the undercarriage.*jb

2000 Leprechaun

Dt: contact stated the 4 firestone tires on 2000 coachman, leprechaun model ss314 blew out. The motor home has a 1999 ford e450 chassis. Ton he first tire the entire belt came off, and hit the underside of the vehicle. On the second tire the steel wires came through the tread , but the belt did not come off. The third tire was the same as the second tire. The 4th tire had a 8'' inch tear on the sidewall. The tire had only 7,000 miles on it. Was sent off to firestone for an adjustment or replacement, and firestone refused to adjust or replace the tire because they said that coachman had put too much weight on the motor home, and that was the reason for the tire problem. They refused to give caller this reason in writing. He had not talked to coachman. When the motor home had 20,000 miles on it, consumer stated it started to shimmy badly. Took it in to have it aligned, and they told him the front end was so heavy, they had to send out and have custom made cams machined to do it. *ak

Cpsc# i1150333a . 2007 coachmen leprechaun. Consumer stated that she is having problems with her apollo 1/2 time top gas stove/bottom combination microwave and convection oven. It was only used twice. *ln the consumer stated she set the timer for the convection oven and stepped outside, when she opened the door, rolling black smoke filled the rv. The oven was running, but there was no time running and the lights on the entire display panel were flashing. She turned off the circuit breaker and pulled the burned food out of the oven. The inside of the oven was brown. Last week, the consumer put something in the microwave for four minutes and it began flashing again and smoke began emitting from the microwave. The consumer was advised by the manufacturer to contact a supply store. The supply store informed the consumer about a connection at the top of the oven that could dislodge and cause the unit to act erratic. *jb

The braking seemed weak on this RV but we had no baseline to compare it with since we purchased this one new. Three years after purchasing I was underneath the vehicle tracing a wire when I found the brake line from the brake master cylinder to the rear brakes badly crimped over a bolt in the frame. The line was almost completely closed and there were shiny grooves in it from the threads on the bolt it went over. An independent RV service shop replaced the brake line and said it looked like we had been operating on front brakes only. It appears when the manufacturer stretched the frame to accommodate the RV body, someone ran the brake line over the bolt instead of under it. When they tightened it down it crimped. I have the damaged line. RV going over mountain passes with no brakes.
