How to read a Coachmen Prism VIN — every digit explained
Every Coachmen Prism carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. Tells you it's a Coachmen and the country it was built in (real Coachmen codes below).
- VDS (4–8) — model, body style, engine, trim & restraints. The 8th digit is the engine code.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built (e.g. R = 2024, S = 2025).
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Prism.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
- —1MW · 1TC · 1TE · 1TJ · 1TX
Digits 4–17 — the engine code (8th), model-year letter (10th) and plant — follow the universal SAE standard, identical on every car. For the full year-code table (2001–2026), country codes and where the VIN is stamped on your Prism, see the complete guide to reading a VIN.

2018 Coachman Prism 14K miles. I've always had issued maintaining the correct air pressure in my rear tires. On 3/3/23 I took my RV to Discount Tire to have my tires checked. The technician pointed out where the rims were leaking at the welds. This same defect was observed on the wheel next to it. Discount Tires has provided a written statement of their findings. I called the service advisor at my local sprinter dealer; they informed me that this issue would NOT be under warranty. Although my tires appear to be in good condition, the effects of running tires on low pressure could significantly reduce tire life and increase risk to operator and passenger safety. Currently there are 6 Complaints submitted for the same issue. At what point does this get escalated to an investigation?
The fuel got low and all of a sudden all these lights went on the dash. Re-fueled and they still didn't go out. Vehicle was in motion. After refueling, i put in drive and it revd up all by itself and as i put on brakes, it was grinding like sand in them. I pulled over and shut off engine. Turned back on and it was fine but lights still on. The right rear speed sensor was showing out which makes it rev up and slow down. Happened 3 times on highway and in parking lot. I feel this should be a recall item or under warranty for repair as it only has 5500 miles on it.
We had a failure of one of the rear dual tires on interstate 15 south of idaho falls. The mercedes sprinter 3500 chassis and chrome rear outside dual wheels does not have effective access to the dual tires to check and change the air pressure. The length of the inner tire valve stem makes the job of reinstalling the valve cap virtually impossible without removal of the outer chrome dual wheel. The outside dual is almost as difficult. As a result, most owners can not and will not check the tire pressure on the inner dual tire creating a potential safety issue. The only effective way to check tire pressure is to remove the outer chrome wheel a job that should only be done by professionals with the proper equipment, not by the vehicle owner.

This Coachmen Prism 2150CB motorhome, built on a 2018 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 chassis, is now going back to the dealer a third time for the same problem. First time, rear wheel speed sensors were replaced while in for other service as a part of a recall. No big deal. But apparently the issue is not isolated to rear wheel speed sensors. At 11k miles, 500 miles from home, another wheel speed sensor went out, this time the left front. Now, at 14k miles, 1500 miles from home, the right front wheel sensor went out. When this occurs, the following systems do not work: ABS, ESP, cruise control. Why were ALL wheel speed sensors not included in the recall?
