How to read a Jayco Jay Flight VIN — every digit explained
Every Jayco Jay Flight carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. 4T1 = Toyota, built in the USA.
- VDS (4–8) — model line, body style, engine & restraint system.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built. H = 2017.
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Jay Flight.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:
Where to find your Jay Flight VIN
- Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
- Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
- Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
- Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

Gross and hitch weight of travel trailer/towing safety. The consumer and his wife had difficulty towing the trailer, especially when it was windy or when a large truck was passing. The consumer took the trailer to be weighed, and it was discovered the weight on the trailer exceeded the amount that was advertised both in the brochure and on the sticker on trailer. The consumer stated that trailer was unsafe to tow behind a vehicle. Prior to purchasing the trailer, the consumer showed the salesperson the towing capacity information for their vehicle. The documentation provided to the consumer stated the hitch weight for the trailer was 780 pounds. Based on that information, the salesperson at the dealer advised the consumer the trailer was within weight that could safely tow the vehicle. The consumer believed the documentation provided to him, by the dealership fraudulently misrepresented the weight of the trailer. ...updated 11-06-13 *bf
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jayco jay flight. The contact received a notification for nhtsa campaign id number: 07v118000 (structure). The contact submitted the request for the remedy kit specified on the recall notification. However, the manufacturer has been unresponsive. The contact mentioned that the lock had already malfunctioned failing to lock from the inside and outside of the trailer. The contact still had not received the new replacement lock.
This complaint involves a 2004 jayco travel trailer. The freshwater tank is held in place under the trailer by two metal straps at either end of the tank. These straps are then screwed into the floorboards by small screws. In july of 2008 this system failed and the tank fell to the ground. It was repaired by a jayco dealer. On 4/ 20/09 the system again failed. Luckily, neither time were we on the highway or the results could have resulted in fatalities. I would like jayco to repair all travel trailers with this system so we can all remain safe. *tr
I have a 2004 jayco 27ft bh, with limited use, as i was changing a flat, i noticed that on both frames have a upside down t crack on almost every support under the trailer, i am now afraid to tow this trailer, i have seen very many complaints about jacyco frame cracks of this nature on various web pages, i fel this is a problem that jayco is afraid to admit too, i called my dealer, and they said that i must bring it to them for inspection, but i was told that they had never heard of the problem before. And that they felt as if jayco would not pay for this problem. *tr

The manufacturer stated that they will replace and repair any defects that are present. The failure and current mileage were 15. The vehicle has not been driven since it was purchased. The additional vehicle information is not related to this trailer.
Dt*: the contact stated the microwave oven in the trailer is defective. There has not been an electrical short involving the microwave. The contact unplugged the microwave to avoid an electrical short and is therefore unable to use it. Tires 2 Read
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jayco jay flight equipped with goodyear marathon tires, size: 225/75r/15 (na). The contact stated that the center passenger side tire blew out. The vehicle was taken to the tire shop and four brand new tires were installed, but of a different brand. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The dot number was unknown. The approximate tire and vehicle failure mileage was 1,500.
We noticed these tires were failing just before they actually blew apart. The first one i noticed in waco tx, just after parking in an rv park. A piece of rubber the size of your hand was missing ? But the tire was still holding air. I replaced that tire with the spare and took the tire to a goodyear dealer (wingfoot) in waco who replaced it at no charge except for mounting and balancing. Later i went to the dealer in selma, tx where i purchased the camper (in jan 2007) for some interior warranty work. The service writer glanced at my tires as he walked by and said: ?you have a major problem with those tires, the tread is separating. You need to go to a goodyear dealer as soon as you leave here and get at least 2 of those tires replaced and check the others?. I went to a goodyear dealer in san antonio but the manager wanted nothing to do with this situation ? He insisted there was nothing wrong with the tires after looking at and feeling them and suggested i talk to someone at a goodyear company store. We returned to our campsite in flatonia, tx and the next morning went to a local tire dealer (who didn't handle goodyear) and asked him to inspect the tires. He jacked up one axle at a time and spun the tires. All 3 tires were out of round, 2 very badly and one somewhat. He put the spare (the new goodyear from waco) on the ground replacing the worst tire and said i needed to go to the goodyear dealer in la grange, tx and get all 3 replaced as all were separating and very dangerous. That dealer in la grange agreed they were separating and replaced all 3 on a prorated basis. One of the original tires (mounted as a spare when we bought the camper) is now on the ground; i?ll watch it very closely for signs of separation. All 5 tires that came with the unit were 225/75 r15 load range d with dot codes: ohhh mlhr 3206 or 3306. *jb

The consumer stated that trailer was unsafe to tow behind a vehicle. Prior to purchasing the trailer, the consumer showed the salesperson the towing capacity information for their vehicle. The documentation provided to the consumer stated the hitch weight for the trailer was 780 pounds. Atwood propane range has a malfunctioning oven pilot light and goes out when in use. I have replaced the pilot light assy at atwood's suggestion and it does not make a difference. I am hesitant to use the range for safety considerations. I note there was a recall shortly after my oven was built on 05 27 2010 and am thinking the original recall may not have been complete. *js
