How to read a Polestar 2 VIN — every digit explained

Every Polestar 2 carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.

FIG.02
1–3 · WMI1HG
4–8 · VDSCM826
9 · Check5
10 · YearR
11 · PlantA
12–17 · Serial004352
  • WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. Tells you it's a Polestar and the country it was built in.
  • VDS (4–8) — model, body style, engine, trim & restraints. The 8th digit is the engine code.
  • Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
  • Model year (10) — the year it was built (e.g. R = 2024, S = 2025).
  • Plant (11) — which factory assembled this 2.
  • Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
17 CHARS·SOURCE SAE / ISO 3779

Model-year code (10th digit)

The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:

H2017 J2018 K2019 L2020 M2021 N2022 P2023 R2024 S2025 T2026

Where to find your 2 VIN

  • Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
  • Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
  • Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
  • Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

2023 2

The vehicle improperly sensed an impending rear collision when there was no vehicle present. The vehicle entered a mode where the electronic seatbelt tensioners aggressively pulled the occupants and did not release until the seatbelt latches were depressed. This happened in traffic. The occupants sustained soft tissue injuries. The manufacturer refused to acknowledge the situation.

2024 2

The manafactuer distributed a software update to correct issues regarding reverse camera settings. This update has not corrected the issue in my polestar and, in fact, has caused many other disturbances forcing me to seek service at a the closest dealership. When reversing, it will activate the emergency stop function, which has caused much anxiety and stress because not only are the parking sensors nonfunctional, but the thought of the emergency breaks being activated without threat or my regard again is distressing and misleading.

2024 2

I would go into reverse and the camera would appear but then disappear as I’m backing up. No more blinking or telling me I am about to crash. Even 3D camera doesn’t work. Drivetrain feels very strange since last OTA update. Making weird noises when driving. Battery sounds like it’s screaming. Something is really wrong.

2022 2

While backing up, my vehicle collided with a an approaching vehicle due to reduced rear visibility. At the time of the incident, the rearview camera system did not display any image on the center screen. There were no warning messages or indicators alerting me to a malfunction prior to or during the incident. The loss of rear camera function put my safety and the safety of others at risk, as I was relying on the system for visibility behind the vehicle. Shortly after the accident, I received a safety recall notice from the manufacturer stating that a defect in the parking assist camera system may reduce rear visibility and increase the risk of a crash. The timing of the incident suggests that the defect may have been present and contributed to the crash, although I was not aware of the issue until after the accident occurred.

2021 2

Cameras stopped working when backing out and collision with pole when reversing out

2025 2

See attached document for complaint. I am contacting you regarding Recall RP1056, which addresses a known defect where the rearview camera image may fail to display, increasing the risk of a crash or personal injury while reversing . Despite having the recall performed, my vehicle continues to experience the same issue-the rearview camera image intermittently fails to appear, leaving me with limited visibility when backing up. This unresolved safety concern is both frustrating and dangerous. I have recently relocated to Hawaii, and I have come to learn that there are currently no authorized Polestar service centers in the state. As this is a recall-related safety defect that has not been properly resolved , I am formally requesting that Polestar cover the cost of shipping my vehicle to the nearest mainland service center capable of performing the necessary diagnostics and repair. Please confirm receipt of this request and advise on next steps, including scheduling, logistics, and the process for arranging vehicle transport. Your timely response and assistance in resolving this matter is greatly appreciated.

2024 2

Rear view camera suddenly stopped working. The same problem happened 3 weeks back and Polestat sent a software update that is supposed to fix the issue. Read view camera worked for sometime, but again it is not working. In fact, no camera is working in this vehicle.

2024 2

360 degree view and backup camera stutters/not available after starting vehicle. Occurred after recall software update that was supposed to address this.

2024 2

Backup camera starts flashing black while backing up and sometimes doesn't turn on while backing up

2024 2

Back up camera repeatedly blanks out. Sometimes will not start. Sometimes stops working in the middle of when I'm backing up. Also Rear auto braking is too sensitive and will often slam the emergency brakes for no reason.

2024 2

My electric system tied to the center console tablet stopped working. There was no active camera, lane assist warnings, music, maps/gps, etc. Nothing worked with no explanation. It felt very dangerous to drive without the electric safety system since this car has bad visibility. Volvo / Polestar denies that there is a problem and said they would fix it with "over the air" updates.

2023 2

Constant camera issues. The rear camera only works half the time and when it does go it, it'll just cut off while driving in reverse. It's completely unreliable and dangerous. New update has affected the cars acceleration. Now when its below a certain degrees outside they changed it so the car can no longer accelerate at its normal speed and instead, barely responds when you hit the gas causing a multiple second delay before the car moves. It's incredibly dangerous and makes it impossible to move out of the way if needed in an emergency. Issue was reported and was told that just how it is now and there is nothing they can do about it. This is dangerous and not the vehicle I purchased.

2023 2

Infotainment system continues to be intermittently unresponsive. Today, the system was totally frozen which made it so heat/air conditioning could not be controlled, no sound for turn signals were present, and backup camera was not functioning.

2023 2

Infotainment system crashing post most recent software update causing main dashboard to stop showing information and make critical information difficult to see because of washed out background. Malfunctioning Components: Infotainment system. Available for inspection. Safety Risk: Difficulty seeing speed, unable to see warnings Dealer: No Inspection: No Warnings: No

2023 2

The vehicle refuses to acknowledge the keys to the vehicle and refuses to shift to D or N. This is happened to my vehicle multiple times. The dealership from Polestar Austin refuses to repair the issue.

2023 2

Rear camera functionality keeps failing. Camera either won't load at all or flickers on and off for a couple minutes before it'll load. Rear visibility of vehicle is very poor, so need for camera is essential for safety.

2023 2

When putting the car in reverse, the rear camera displays briefly. As you start to reverse, the camera cuts in and out and you're unable to see what is behind you on the screen. It flashes to black for at least a minute, so you're unable to use the backup camera for up to 60 seconds after you put the car in reverse.

2023 2

Starting in 2022 the car started to "black out" when I drove it. The spedeometer and screen would go completely dark, especially at speeds over 60 MPH I reported this to Polestar in 2023, they incorrectly diagnosed it as a TPMS warning when I brought it to the dealer. I called Polestar back in July 2023, but a nearby dealer was 7 hours away. I brought the car into the dealer March 2024, they had it for several days, didn't detect a problem and sent me home w car. It did it again, I was able to capture this footage on video, they then took the car back again and finally believed me. They had questioned me before. They ended up replacing the IHU

2024 2

Intermittent issue where the rear view backup camera does not appear on screen. I receive a message of "camera temporarily unavailable." Even when shifting to another gear then back to Reverse, the camera will still not work and the same message will appear. I have the latest software update that was supposed to address this already-recalled issue (verison 3.6.4).

2024 2

In the dark, when shifting into reverse, the backup camera is unreasonably dark and driver cannot see surroundings if there is no external lighting.

When put into reverse, display just shows Camera is temporarily unavailable. This is after the OTA update 4.2.13 that was supposed to fix the issue. Rear cross traffic braking is also unavailable at this time.

2023 2

After multiple software OTA updates due to previous NHTSA recalls, the rear backup camera consistently has issues to where the image of the rear of the vehicle cannot temporarily be displayed.

2023 2

NHTSA Recall No. 25V-280 concerning rear camera. I have been getting the "camera is temporarily unavailable" display occasionally since late last year (2024). I had no problem with the rear camera before that. I received the above recall notice and took the car into the shop on Jul 7, 2025 for the software upgrade from 3.3.16 to 3.6.4. Since then, I am still getting "camera is temporarily unavailable" displays occasionally. The problem was not solved with this software upgrade.

2023 2

Upon putting the vehicle into reverse, the backup camera takes an insurmountably long time to engage and when it does, the image it produces frequently flashes for several seconds before stabilizing, rendering it useless - particularly with pedestrians or vehicles behind the car. Recent OTA updates have exacerbated this problem, which poses a pretty severe safety risk in a car with such limited rear visibility, and after researching the problem online, it's pretty clear that it's an endemic issue to the car and can likely be remedied through software, but the manufacturer has thus far shown little interest in addressing it.

2023 2

The parking camera system freezes and flickers on a fresh startup on a fairly consistent basis, all you have to do is let the car go into a "sleep state" then enter the car and go in to reverse. Also, there are false positives from the parking collision system in the rear when going down a sidewalk apron, causing the emergency braking system to trigger. This has happened often enough to the point where I disable the emergency braking system on every startup.

The vehicle stopped playing interior sounds, including indicator “clicks”; alerts like collision avoidance, parking collision warning, etc; as well as radio. A hard reset of the infotainment system was required to restore functionality. The issue continued through multiple times “turning the vehicle off” and starting again. Malfunctioning Component: Infotainment system. Available for inspection. Safety Risk: No advanced audio warning indicators that emergency action may be taken. Reproduced by dealer: No Inspected: No Warnings: No

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The reverse cameras don't function. It doesn't turn on with a message on the center screen saying. The camera system is temporarily unavailable. Yes, it is available for inspection upon resuqest. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The rear visibility while reversing is not adequate, causing multiple issues when parking into tight spaces without the camera, Additionally the ADAS Forward collision warning brakes randomly resulting in unintentional brake checks on highway. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The dealer blamed the issue on a connected dashcam. This is not confirmed by Polestar or Volvo. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes, Volvo of austin. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? NO

A new software update was recently released to fix a previous recall of the backup camera. Ever since that version 5 of the software was released, the display unit computer randomly resets during the drive. During the report, all blind spot, cruise control, lane sensing, sensors, etc are not working and take multiple minutes to turn on and the activate.

Backup camera can fail to start when putting car in reverse. When backup camera does start, it can also suddenly stop during active reversal so that the driver is then reversing with zero visibility. All car audio can stop or suddenly fail to start in the car. This impacts sensors, blind spot warnings, etc. Driver is reliant and conditioned to hearing these sensors for lane keeping, safety, turn signal sounds, etc and without this - driver can dangerously assume there are no issues. Issues have been reproduced and confirmed by dealer, dealer has attempted to fix this and there have been multiple recalls by NHTSA as well - but nothing has fixed this issue yet. No warnings, no messages before any failures.

Polestar release version 3.6.4 update that when applied did not inform us that the one pedal drive was set. The vehicle prior to the update was set to 2 pedal meaning when the gas pedal was let go it would coast and slowly come to a stop. The one pedal immediately was enabled which is a safety as I was not aware and the software did not mention it being activated. It nearly caused me to have a safety issue driving home. The backup camera which has been recalled and polestar sent a notice to update the vehicle is still having failures. Polestar has been creating safety hazards with these software pushes without fully testing it.

2022 2

After the update that should fix the car, it now has several issues. One Pedal Driving doesn't work. When using One Pedal Driving the car should stop when you release the gas. Now the car continues to roll. It is reporting "Brake Failure" and "Collision Detection Failure". Polestar is saying this is normal after the update and it should fix itself in time. Unacceptable, the car has has issues for a year without any updates. Then this is released and makes it work.

While under light braking in the center lane of the highway at roughly 40MPH and 3-4 car lengths behind the vehicle in front the Automatic Emergency Braking system activated and brought the car to a complete stop. The vehicle behind was several car lengths away and had to slam on their brakes to avoid a collision. The incident caused pain to my right shoulder from the seatbelt tensioning and braking. After coming to a complete stop, the vehicle allowed me to proceed. There were vehicles in neighboring lanes, but at not point was there a situation that would warrant emergency intervention.

2022 2

Vehicle is loosing sound for everything inside the car including turn signals and emergency warnings until infotainment system is restarted. Happens sporadically, usually immediately after getting into the car and multiple people in forums have reported the same issue. Even after multiple OS updates from Polestar, the issue still happens.

2022 2

Polestar 2 has a series of software and hardware system failures where the dealership is not logging them asking customers that instead of leaving their car, they can take a look at it right now. The software team is then instructed to reload the 2.2 to 2.4 software as their system is not fully updating causing conflicting software packets leading to dangerous glitches. My specific PS2 has 2.3 software on it and the vehicle lane assistance package drove the car on two occasions into a bike lane. Prior to the the car had a complete system and safety failure where the car accelerated, changed lanes on the freeway to the fast last from the middle lane and then proceeded to flash hardware errors and software errors that disabled all of the safety systems from cameras, blind spot assistance, lane assistance, and more. The vehicle rapidly accelerated on it's own and changed lanes. Polestar took over 3 weeks to get a report that matches the onboard and OTA communications to order a replacement part. It happened again on the bike lane and the vehicle has been with Polestar for 4 months now as are other vehicles and it is happening to other 2022 PS2's with the lane assist and cruise control system (activated or not activated). https://patch.com/california/lakeforest-ca/tesla-crashes-garage-lake-forest-thursday This is very dangerous as when my situation occurred there was no one in the bike lane by the school nor the fast lane on the freeway (both very rare to be empty). The link above (while the link says tesla) it is a polestar of same features less seats and the driver interviewed said that their vehicle rapidly accelerated and changes lanes. Their auto-breaking system and accident avoidance did not stop the vehicle. Errors flashed on the screen and the system crashed. Polestar towed the vehicle and will has not yet provided other information. I have the VIN for that car after speaking to the other party

ACC is fine, but Pilot Assist's lane cornering cannot be trusted to stay within the lines. Oftentimes, it believes it's got everything under control (the Pilot Assist icon stays yellow) but the Lane Keeping Aid icon lights up. It's like there are two separate systems that don't talk to each other: LKA says, "You're over the line," but Pilot Assist says, "No, everything is okay." Most egregiously, when Pilot Assist knows it doesn't have everything under control, there's no audible alert. The Pilot Assist light just turns off silently, which is extremely dangerous.

The backup camera will not work at all. In fact none of the cameras are working. My firmware/software is up to date. The service center can’t book me until 2 months from now. That’s too much time. When we got out of the vehicle it started showing all sorts of errors like Propulsion system failure, Parking Brakes unavailable, Breaking system not available. The car was taken to Polestar Austin and after keeping the vehicle for 15 days they informed me that they can't find the issue hence have only done a SW update. They suspected a DashCam connected to the camera WILL DEFINATELY cause propulsion and brake failure. The EV reached a temperature of about 161F and was frantically trying to cool itself.

I brought the car into the dealer March 2024, they had it for several days, didn't detect a problem and sent me home w car. a recent software update (5.0.10) altered the acceleration on the car. There is now a 2+ second delay to acceleration to the car once the pedal is depressed if you're not wearing your seatbelt. I did not see this listed in the update info before I installed the over-the-air update. After the update, I have had several near accidents (side impact) as I try to pull out into traffic and the car fails to accelerate as expected. I only learned about the "feature" after calling a dealer to see if I needed to come in for repairs. This, IMO, is a seriously dangerous feature/update to add after purchase. I am used to the immediate acceleration and had this feature been present at purchase I probably would have considered another car. Not because I am opposed to wearing a seatbelt, but because I don't always wear if if running to the store, etc. This WILL cause an accident to someone at somepoint and should be removed.

The vehicle was charging from 11% of charge from a DC fasts charging station. The car was locked and charging. When I came back out to the car, I noticed it had stopped charging at 76%. I then tried to start the charge again and the car just showed an error. I then tried the 3 other available chargers (1 of the 4 was in use by another car), and the car did not charge at any of them—showing that same error message. When I proceeded to try to drive the car this time, I received an error message on the dash stating: "Propulsion system Service required". The car would not shift into drive after this message showed up. When at red light or stop sign intermittently the vehicle lunges forward on its own 1-3 feet. without the brake or go pedal pressed. Vehicle is driven in OPD creep mode off. However I would be afraid of it doing it with someone walking close in a crosswalk. Vehicle was taken to Polestar service today after it happened to my wife this morning. We were driving our car with two little kids in it on a rainy day at 60mph and the car screeching braked to 5mph on a highway with a ‘propulsion system failure’ message. The car would knock at 5mph and continue in turtle mode. We could have been killed if there was a car behind us in that rain. When we took the car to polestar service (prestige Volvo) they did a software upgrade in 30 mins and said the car is ready. A day later the car gave other issues like blanking screens. I took the case with polestar corporate who were extremely rude in their behavior and gave me a loaner and sent the car back to service. 2 days later they said that the car is repaired and I can pick it up. When I asked them to give me a letter stating that the car is safe to drive, the agent from polestar (Sophia) was extremely rude and said that they will not give me a written confirmation. I spoke to the polestar service manager Jay Rosen and he said he has seen this issue many times in some cars and I inquired why there was no recall in that case and there was no answer. Another service manager from Polestar Jason who spoke to me yesterday informed me that technicians looked at my car remotely and not in person. This is extremely scary.

Occasionally while operating my Polestar 2, the TCAM module becomes unresponsive. Sometime it happens when I first turn it on and it is initially establishing communication, other times it's happened when driving under a steel bridge or overpass that temporarily blocks view of the sky. Particularly troublesome while navigating tricky interchanges where you actually need the guidance. Pressing and holding the 'home' button on the head unit for ~15 seconds until the whole car's infotainment/speedometer/etc. system does a hard restart has been enough to resolve for me each time it's happened (4x now). Additionally - and unsure if related or not? - I have received two phantom errors. One stating "Propulsion System. Service Required." After confirming online that this was a not uncommon issue, I proceeded to drive it anyway and it disappeared after 2 minutes and has not returned. The other error was a "low tire pressure" error when I got in the vehicle. I checked all tire pressures with a gauge I know to be accurate and confirmed that there were no low tire pressures and then 'stored' the existing tire pressures as accurate (I believe the vehicle only reports deltas from stored state, as the actual tire pressures are not shown anywhere in the infotainment system).

I took car to dealer to get latest software update version 4.2.13 since my car hasnt been received updates OTA. After the update, the cars accelerating from a stand still had a lag of almost 1 to 2 seconds which is dangerous. I went online to find out several polestar 2 owners complaining about the same issue. My car has the performance upgrade which has a 0-60 time in 4 seconds. Now after this issue, car is hitting 0-60 in under 6.5 seconds. I was in a situation yesterday where i backed out of my driveway and saw a car behind me coming in very fast, I floored the acceleration pedal and the car did not move until 1.3 seconds. This is extremely unsafe and needs immediate attention. Before this software update I had no issues in acceleration and have owned the car for over 2 years. Please help.

On 12/26/2021, I merged onto the I-5 South highway to Irvine, CA, and engaged Pilot Assist. The “speedometer dial” icon turned yellow (as expected), but the “car in front” and “hand hold wheel” icons remained grayed out. I believe this indicated 2 things: (1) the car was still looking for a lead car, and (2) the car was searching for clear lane markings. Everything appeared to be normal at this point as it does take some time to take over the steering. As I approach a slower moving lead car in front of me, I noticed that the car was still at my set speed (~75mph). I get closer and closer to the car in front and the car was not slowing down to match speed and maintain distance. I looked down and still see the same icons: “speedometer dial” icon is yellow (as expected), but the “car in front” and “hand hold wheel” icons were still grayed out. I believe the car didn’t see the car in front. Also, the steering function of the Pilot Assist never engaged. I tried to disengage and re-engage Pilot Assist several times but every time it worked like normal cruise control even when I’m very close to the car in front (~20 feet). I re-confirmed that I have always selected Adaptive Cruise Control in the center screen menu and it’s not a setting that I touched before this incident. I had to disengage Pilot Assist for the rest of the drive. When Pilot Assist is OFF, normally the Lane Keeping Aid icon in the driver display should turn white above 40mph when lane markings are clear. However, the LKA icon remained grayed out for the rest of the drive even when the lane markings are perfectly clear. After the stressful drive, we parked the car for 2 minutes, yet the issues still remained. We reached our destination and parked the car for 30 minutes, and the issues fixed themselves! Both Pilot Assist and LKA started working at the next drive.

The vehicle was serviced on 2/13 at the Polestar service center in Seattle. I believe this is when software version 4.2.13 was installed. In the last week, I've noticed a new behavior. When I accelerate from a stop, the vehicle intermittently does not accelerate as it used to. For approximately 2 - 3 seconds, I have no control over acceleration and the vehicle only operates around 5 mph. This put me in a scary situation as I was making a quick turn in front of oncoming traffic, and did not have the acceleration I expected to safely make the turn. It's happened to me about six times in the last week.

Vehicle chassis vibrates noticeably at speeds around 30 mph and 65 mph, which is translated to the steering wheel. The vibration is of a high frequency, almost akin to a sander, and is most prominent under acceleration or deceleration. It's been present since I took delivery of the car in December of 2022 and can be felt on every drive. Polestar can reproduce the problem in other Polestar 2s and claims this vibration is within spec, but it feels like a defective drive shaft, which is quite worrying. Persistent unresolved front-suspension defect on a 2022 Polestar 2 (Polestar Approved CPO, purchased 03/20/2025). Vehicle pulls right under normal driving on flat, level pavement — a directional control hazard requiring constant steering correction at highway speed. A front-suspension noise over bumps developed after recent repairs. The Polestar-authorized dealer (University Volvo / Polestar Charlotte) made FIVE repair attempts on this same complaint without resolving it: 10/23/2025; 11/04/2025; 04/01/2026; 04/15/2026; and 04/17–04/27/2026. Five alignments performed. Both upper strut bearings replaced 04/15/2026 (Inv #XXX , $1,499.44). On the next visit the dealer replaced a control arm and did additional shock and bearing work as no-charge line items (Inv #263452, $279.19) — implicitly acknowledging the prior repair was inadequate. Within one block of leaving the dealer on 04/15, vehicle developed a new front-right rattle that did not exist before. Dealer's own technician notes on Inv #XXX state verbatim: "test drove vehicle and could not verify any pulling while driving" — repair performed WITHOUT confirmed symptom reproduction. As of 05/04/2026 (six days after pickup), vehicle is again pulling right and now has a NEW noise over bumps. Condition is materially worse than before any repair. This is the subject of Polestar Technical Journal TJ XXX (NHTSA document MC-XXX-0001), which acknowledges creaking/knocking from the upper front suspension on Polestar 2 MY 2021–2024 and states a redesigned upper bearing was released Q4 2023, with a further redesign in week 20 of 2024. I am writing to formally complain about significant issues I am experiencing with my 2022 Polestar 2, vin: [XXX] . Specifically, I am experiencing the following problems: Front Knocking/Rattle Sound: A distinct knocking or rattling sound is emanating from the front tire area, particularly noticeable during low-speed maneuvers and over uneven surfaces. This noise is concerning and suggests a potential suspension or drivetrain issue. Rear Clicking Sound: When moving slowly, a consistent clicking sound can be heard originating from the rear of the vehicle. This clicking sound is also a cause for concern, indicating a potential problem with the rear axle, drivetrain, or associated components. Furthermore, I have become aware through online forums and discussions that other Polestar 2 owners are reporting similar issues with both the front knocking/rattle and the rear clicking sounds. This suggests that these problems are not isolated incidents and may indicate a broader manufacturing or design defect. I request that Polestar take the following actions: Thoroughly investigate these issues and identify the root cause of the knocking/rattle and clicking sounds. Provide a comprehensive solution to repair these problems, ensuring the safety and reliability of my vehicle. Acknowledge the widespread nature of these issues and address them proactively for all affected Polestar 2 owners. Provide me with a loaner vehicle while my car is being repaired. Please contact me at [XXX] or [XXX] to discuss this matter further. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. I've contacted Polestar of America to report the issue 2 weeks ago because the car is now out of warranty. I have not heard back from them.

When making a sharp left turn at full steering lock the car makes clicking noises. Service center states it is CV joint related and several cars with this performance suspension have this problem. It may be a safety hazard should the CV joint fail and it is a known issue.

1 - The rear axles have failed. 2- A rear axle failure while driving presents extreme safety hazards, including sudden loss of vehicle control and stability, potential wheel separation, and abrupt loss of drive power, greatly increasing the risk of a severe accident 3 - Polestar has created a report on 3/4/24 regarding the issue AND IS AWARE OF IT - Technical Journal 36854.1.0 - Ticking noise during deceleration at Low Speeds. My car is 2 months out of Warranty and is a 2021 model and has 48,000 miles and they refuse to cover the cost of the repair Polestar owners have confirmed this online in various Polestar forums. 4- The Polestar dealer inspected it. 5- No warnings

There is a TBS out for a strut mount bearing replacement that causes clunking/rattling of the front suspension while driving on slight rougher roads or while turning left or right. However, this TSB does not solve the issue. Polestar claims they have an updated component/strut mount bearing that solves the clunking issue but it does not. My vehicle has the latest components installed under warranty (due to my vehicle exhibiting this issue) and it has not solved the suspension clunking. At this point, it is safe to say that the strut mount bearings are not the main or only cause of the front suspension clunking. There are other components involved that may be failing or have failed but have not been properly identified by the service centers or Polestar. Polestar does not seem to want to address this issue head on. In their own TSB, their wording is clear that they wish to delay the process of updating components so as to prevent buy backs during warranty periods. It's written in black and white and this seems highly irregular or illegal to have such a business model. We do not know if this issue poses a safety hazard or not but given it's a front suspension issue, it's only a matter of time before a vehicle loses control due to component failure that was not looked into or was not anticipated beyond the strut mount bearings. Please do something to solve this problem. This vehicle (Polestar 2) has been out now for FIVE YEARS and this issue has yet to be resolved.

While turning at moderate speed into a parking lot across traffic, a rear passenger side suspension component (potentially lower control arm) failed, causing excessive toe and camber on both sides of the rear axle as the components shifted around. At this point, the car stopped driving straight, and crabbed to the side aggressively. It seems to me that some suspension component is either at the design limit in this application and received enough stress to fail during normal operation, or a manufacturing defect wasn't caught and failed over time. My safety was put at risk as the rear wheel was no longer pointed in the direction of travel. Had this occurred at a higher speed (highway cloverleaf for example) complete loss of control of the vehicle would have been likely. Had this failure prevented me from entering the parking lot, I would have been left perpendicular to the flow of traffic and at high risk of collision with other drivers. The problem has been observed by the dealer service center, though they do not yet understand the cause. The components have been inspected by a service tech, but not by any manufacturer representative as far as I'm aware. There were no warnings or other presentation. When the tow driver struggled to drive the car onto the truck, he remarked in surprise that the car still showed no sign that it knew there was a problem. We were unable to get the car entirely onto the trailer, as it pushed sideways threatening to fall off of the ramps. The driver had to secure the vehicle to the ramps and take it like that.
