2012 Buick LACROSSE · fire

I was driving the LaCrosse in my neighborhood. A few minutes into the trip, I noticed a burning kind of smell. Then I saw smoke coming from the left side under the hood. I pulled over to the side of the road and exited the car to check, but the smoke quickly got worse and became flames. I then called 911.The police and fire department responded, and they were able to extinguish the fire. However, the front part of the car including the hood area and the passenger compartment was completely burned. It was a clear and mild summer day. And the car was travelling at relatively low speed on a local street, nothing unusual until the car suddenly started to smell, smoke, and burn. From the first burning smell to the car fire it took only a few minutes. The fire department investigation report states that the origin of the fire was "Left front of the engine compartment behind the left headlight and before the battery", and " the most likely cause was an electrical failure." I am the original owner of the car. It had been regularly maintained. The car had about 87,750 miles. It had not been involved in any accident

I had completely stopped my vehicle in a parking area at a condominium complex where I was delivering a meal to my nephew who resides there. Because I had just recently learned that someone from my community was dying from an encephalitis-infected mosquito and I am very prone to mosquito bites, I decided to re-start my car and back into the open parking space directly in front of the condo unit, a distance of about 40 feet from my original stop. I proceeded to back up very slowly and very carefully into the parking space in front of the condominium unit. When I applied the brake to stop, the vehicle failed to stop and instead, in what seemed like a flash, rocketed backward, a distance of about 40 feet into the side of the condominum. The vehicle was traveling so fast that it missed the shrubbery in front of the building and struck the window above it, crashing into the building. At the time, I was an experienced driver with a perfect driving record of over 30 years. There is no question in my mind that I applied the brake, but it failed to stop the vehicle. Based on my recollection and on my driving experience, I am certain that there was no way that I had stepped on the accelerator by accident. On the contrary, I believe this was an instance of sudden unintended acceleration. I suffered whip lash but was treated and released in the hospital emergency room. My vehicle was totaled, however. To this day, I still have nightmares of the horrible feeling when the car that I had l

While driving 65 mph on the hwy, in rush hour traffic my entire steering column came completely out and I lost control of my vehicle causing a 3 car wreck. The only indicator that something was wrong was that just prior to this happening the tilt on my steering wheel came undone 2 times and by the 3rd time when I pushed the wheel back up to lock it into place it came out entirely. There was no lights, no nothing. No tampering of any kind had ever been done to it whatsoever. And no one has looked at it since. It still falls randomly while driving. I am in army & while driving to work one morning at 5:30 am my van slowly started accelerating the more I pressed the brake the faster the van went, by the time I reached the street the van was up to 50 mph I was afraid so I call my husband, told him the situation & the street I was traveling, he was on the way. By then I was up to 60-65 mph, I called 911 stated the situation, asking for help & to have someone on the phone just in case. I almost hit a bus, looking ahead a few blocks I saw back-to-back traffic starting to build-up, I did not want to hurt myself or anyone else, then going 65-70 mph I looked over and saw a park I turned the van into the park & to stop it I decided to crushed the van into a tree. I turned toward the tree and jumped out; the van crashed into the side of the tree & continued to keep going. I ran after it as I saw the van jump the curb and going 70mph towards the row of homes across the street crashed into a tree head on. The van engine after all that continued to roar as if trying to keep going. I flagged down a van and recalled the police to let them know where the van had stopped. When the fire department came & turned the van off they told me the van was on fire & they towed it away. This is a blessing know one was hurt, but something needs to be done about this, & for the auto company not to investigate is a tragedy. What are they saying numerous people will have to die, before they will admit there maybe a problem, just to save money? If that

GM has known about the issues with their transmission in the 2014 -2017 Buick Enclave models. They were found under NHTSA Technical Service Bulletin: 18-NA-358 dated October 2020. I have reported this problem to GM, with the information that they requested. The issue here is that the manufacturer currently has a class-action lawsuit filed against it and will have another if they refuse to acknowledge the failures of their transmission in this vehicle. The following expert from the TSB states the following: Some customers may comment that the vehicle may have a severe launch shudder in 1st gear from a stop, or while driving along when in 4th gear, or during the 2-3 upshift or 3-2 downshift. Some customers may also comment on one or more of the following conditions: • Flare • Slide/bump • Slip • Harshshift The problem here is that with the advanced knowledge they had, they knowingly and willingly refused to issue a recall on these vehicles, which has severe outcomes for owners. My wife, who was driving the Enclave was nearly rear-ended at highway speeds when the vehicles behind her were in proximity to her slowed vehicle. The vehicle began to shudder and again when she began driving when the traffic moved. The transmission slips from gears and I verified this myself taking a test drive if the vehicle. This could have led to serious injury or death to my wife! GM refuses to provide any relief from this issue, nor do they wish to accept any amount of responsibility. My question i

I had storm damage to my vehicle and needed the front headlight replaced. This was a insurance claim and it went to a local body shop as well as a GM Dealership trying to fix the problem. My vehicle is equipped with Adaptive Forwarding Headlights that turn with my steering wheel. Once my headlight was replaced this feature cannot work again. This feature is what holds my headlights in alignment with a module behind the headlight. GM is aware of this issue, and they cannot fix it. Now I have headlights that will not stay in place. The GM dealership said it cannot set my headlights the proper way due to the feature not working now. GM owned the issue; told us their engineers are working to find a fix however it has been years and every Enclave that needs a new headlight loses the feature they can't fix. I bought this car for the adaptive headlight feature to help me see at night and now I'm stuck with a vehicle I don't even want because GM can't fix their own product. It is not fair, and I can't see at night at all now due to my headlight pointing at the ground. Safety is a huge issue. GM needs to recall and fix their Enclaves or any other vehicles they make that have Adaptive Forward Assistant Headlights

How we count

Every figure here comes from complaints owners filed with NHTSA — 1,100,006 of them, covering 1,982 models built between 1981 and 2026.

A complaint is an unverified report: someone wrote down what happened to their car. It is not a confirmed defect and not a recall. What makes the volume useful is the pattern — when thousands of owners of the same build describe the same failure, that is a signal no marketing brochure will give you.

Two things we do that the source does not. First, we compute the age of the car at the moment of failure from the incident date and the model year. Second, we group complaints by the first 11 characters of the VIN — the production series — so a bad plant run does not disappear into a model-wide average.
